Educational Trainer .......2006-11-10
This book is IDEAL for anyone who is going to train or teach anything. How to cut the fluff and deliver the required facts.
A refreshing approach to learning and training--I highly recommend it..........2006-11-03
I am not a professional trainer by trade. However, I was recently appointed training coordinator for my department. The Accelerated Learning Handbook has definitely helped me approach my job with a fresh perspective. The information, ideas, and techniques presented have enabled me to more effectively train those in my department as well as those in other functions. Before reading the AL Handbook, I thought all that was needed to effectively teach someone was simply to make sure all of my PowerPoint slides were logically put together. I now have a broader view of how people learn and a sold framework to use when putting together training materials on any topic. I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to engage the audience and create meaningful, effective training presentations.
Practical ideas for facilitators.......2006-02-21
I have worked with adult learners for more than fifteen years and have always tried to incorporate whole-brained, participative learning. This book provided some excellent theoretical background as well as a lot of new instantly usable ideas. I wasn't even all the way through before I applied a couple of the techniques and got an excellent response from my client.
excellent training tool.......2003-07-06
I was getting ready to prepare a training program for 44 persons when I read this book. Immediately! after I used the guidelines to prepare my session. Preparation was fast and easy -and fun! I really couldn't believe that it was that easy to apply and it has been one of my best sessions to date. I refer to it when I need a refresher or a new perspective. I definately reccomend this book for trainers who need to keep their material fresh and interesting (esp. in-house trainers).
Accelerated Learning Handbook.......2002-01-02
Finally, teachers and administrators have a useful tool to recharge their classrooms/schools. We have become so test oriented that many times we forget that the process of learning comes from the doing. The statement comes to mind that we utter with new approaches," When do I have the time to get it all in?". That is where the problem lies! We are so pressured with these new demands that we loose sight of what is important, the process. This book will give us a clearer picture of how we can recharge our teaching and can provide the key so we can use the ideas to change the way we teach or approach the students' learning who are in our care.

Great Service!.......2007-08-31
I recieved my book promptly and my book was in great condition. I would buy from again.
Just A Little Pricey...But Excellent.......2006-09-28
Mayesky balances theory, standards, and practicality in her book by organizing it like a house. She builds up the discipline from the ground (what is creative arts in early childhood) to the unique, but unnecessary, touches (applying early childhood creative arts for holidays).
It's expensive, but worth the price. Vocational schools that offer early child development training use this text.

Buyer BEWARE!!!! Buy it used!.......2005-02-23
This was originally a fabulous 4-color printed book, but, it has been reprinted with very poor quality black & white photocopy looking pages. I contacted the "publisher" who basically said tough luck, this is business, and this is how we make our money. Buy it used!!! Because as you may have figured out, an art education book with low quality black and white examples is worth it's weight in beans!
40 Year Friendship.......2002-03-19
I bought this book almost 40 years ago. I was surprised and pleased to see that it is still "thee" book. Everytime I get stuck for help, I go to this book. Now I am planning courses to teach pre-school teachers in Japan. "Thee" book is open once more. Any chance it is available in Japanese? Thanks Lowenfeld and Brittain!!!
Meeting with the Titians.......2001-03-11
As I finish my final weeks as an art education major, I have tried to complete a reference guide for some of my friends that I will be leaving behind in my department. Other than books by Dr. George Szekely, Viktor Lowenfeld's book "Creative and Mental Growth" stands as the 'bible' for the educator, period. Art isn't "frill" or "elective classes" to children, it is the way of life. Without the understanding of how children view their world and how it does bend toward creative expression, a teacher is simply stumbling around in the darkness. In this stumbling a teacher may find a light switch from time to time. However, join the rest of us with the "torch" of post-modern education with Mr. Lowenfeld's book.
an essential text for all art teachers.......2000-12-03
This was one of the few required texts in my art ed classes that I did not sell back at the end of the term, and the only text which i still refer to 10 years after graduation. It contains valueable information for any educator who wants to ensure the creative growth of their students. It also includes a wonderful chart of children's artistic development. I've highly recomended it to every student teacher I have trained.
Book Description
The eighth title in the Fine Gardening Design series illustrates innumerable techniques to make a little garden space go a long way. It shows how to create a garden that feels much larger than it is, and demonstrates how small gardens can create privacy. A look at sample gardens reveals some of the tips and tricks of gardening in small spaces, such as using diagonal lines and breaking areas into individual sections. Sound advice on pruning and selecting appropriate plants helps readers transform a small lot into a place of beauty and comfort. Featuring designs from some of America's best-known landscape artists with over 100 color photos and illustrations, Gardening in Small Spaces is a great guide to creating a garden paradise with limited space.

Gardening in Small Spaces.......2006-08-31
This book goes beyond eye candy for the gardener. There are plans, and good ideas, like combining different paving materials. I would have liked a little more on front yards and entry areas.
Disappointing.......2006-04-19
This book was long on promises...short on delivery!
I was very dissapointed...I have many Taunton books...similar in nature & was very impressed by some of their other gardening books.
What bothered me most about this book was 'most'..not all...but most of the designers seemed wrapped up in their own fascination with their own victories accomplished in their own yards.
It would seem to me that it would be obvious if a designer is approached to write a contribution for this kind of book...in this particular format...that it would be absolutely essential to convey principles, ideas & workable solutions that anybody could utilize in their 'small space'.
I expected the chosen designers to be much more attuned to the reader rather than coming across so enthralled with the great jobs they'd done in their own yards...& the plants they used etc. There was far too much information involving useless details...such as..."we built the fence ourselvles" type thing.
Much more constructive information was sorely missing from this book. As the reader I quickly tired of reading the same comment over & over from each contributor..."divide your small space up into various rooms". There was such an opportunity here for each of these obviously talented designers to really display their wares...
The same advice about dividing small garden spaces into rooms...was repeated often...with little additonal detail of color, style or scale.
As a designer myself...I found this book to be much more bones...than meat. Don't recommend it!
Great Ideas.......2005-03-06
This book is a collaborative effort which allows room for different tastes. Lots of help and ideas to create an intimate courtyard garden. There are plenty of photos to get your imagination going.
I like that most of the gardens can be adapted to my sub-tropic zone, nothing is cut in stone, except the pathways.
Great little compendium of approaches to small space.......2003-03-16
The terrific thing about this book is that in less than 150 pages it exposes readers to no less than 18 different approaches to creating a garden in small space. The editors never set forth a precise metric of "small space", but these seem to range from the smaller suburban lots to the truly postage stamp sizes many of us grapple with.
Since this is a Taunton publication, there are large color photos and lots of them. There are also plenty of drawings to help readers make sense of elements in various gardens.
Most of the gardeners work in temperate zones and so there is some limit to the planting ideas for a zone 5 plugger like me. Even so, the design ideas and, especially, the hardscaping open up interesting possibilities, albeit ones to explore with different materials.
The sections on design strategies and creating privacy provide a great framework before looking at the "compelling garden spaces" being made on tiny, unpromising lots. Here's a book of information as well as inspiration. I recommend it highly.

Found Memories.......2002-03-21
This book is a great resource for projects in art for children. You could say that I was the test subject for a lot of what's in this book. Willard was my grandfather. This book is a treasure that every elementary school teacher should have. My grandfather would take me to the university to work on projects and then put them in the book. What fun that was. Share this book with your children as my grandfather enjoyed it with his son and grandson.
Great for children's crafts.......1998-07-19
We used this book as a textbook for my Elementary Education Art Methods & Materials class. It is jam-packed with projects to do with children. Highly recommended.

Very Helpful!.......2006-03-16
I use this book often with my 7th grade math intervention students. They enjoy it and it keeps their attention long enough to learn something new or practice what they already know! I highly recommend it!
Great Help.......2005-10-06
Students in my class are enjoying the challenge of the lessons in this book. Great thinking skills and pattern strategies.
Make sure the kids have a ruler!.......2000-03-27
My class enjoyed the activities in the book. Some students identified the pattern without completing the math problems, but most did the calculations first. Make sure that each student has and uses a ruler and pencil. A few tried freehand, but the wiggles made the designs a mess.

The book teaches easy ways to draw nice stuff immediately........1999-02-28
I used to have a copy of this book, but it walked with somebody. Best-Maugard teaches the reader to combine basic marks to make nice drawings of flowers, mountains, animals, and lots of other pretty things.Starting to draw is frustrating because few of start out making wonderful compositions. His method produces immediate results. This book would be great for classes. I consider it more of a design book than a fine art book, but it can cetainly inspire one to go on and produce fine art.I am getting another copy of it because I know there are projects in it for me to further develop my skills. And I started using it eight years ago.
