Book Description
This book shows how to use computers in educational settings by combining learning theory and instructional strategies to help the reader design software for learning and instruction. The book has been extensively revised to include new approaches to multimedia instruction as well as updating established methods such as tutorials, drills, simulations, games, and computer-based tests. Constructivist and instructivist approaches are analyzed and presented. The book is not equipment or software specific. For people interested in Educational Multimedia.

Intructional Technology at it's best........2003-05-12
Had to buy it for a class; execellent resource for it's target audience. Make sure you're a memeber of that target audience (instructional technologists) before you buy :)
The First Book on My Reading List!.......2003-05-06
If I could only put one multimedia learning book on my bookshelf, this would be it. The "General Principles" section provides one of the best overviews I've read of Behavioral, Cognitive, and Constructivist approaches to learning (although I do think they misrepresent the Instructional Systems Design process and treat it as a purely Behavioralist approach). This section also presents an excellent overview of the learning process. The book moves on to discuss methodologies and learning sequences at an unparalleled level, including a brilliant discussion of simulations and educational games. The book closes with an overview of an approach to Design and Development that's worth reading, but far less valuable than the previous sections. Of all my design books, this one has the most dog-eared pages and underlined text; the chapter-level bibliographies alone are worth the book's price! Anyone looking to delve deep into multimedia design for learning should have this book on his or her shelf.
Excellent breadth and and depth of coverage.......2002-10-06
This is an excellent text in terms of coverage and pacing. If you are interested in human-computer interaction, this is a 'must have' text. What astonished me about this book is that it covered more issues in HCI than many dedicated user interface design books. The text admirably blends practical considerations with theoretical concerns and trends. It strongly focuses on motivational issues surrounding users of learning packages(an area largely ignored in the bulk of standard HCI texts). Don't pass over this book.
I love it, it IS the bible of Multimedia design in learning........2002-01-06
I just find it very well put together.. It takes you through the various facets of designing a course/presentation that will actually be used and useful.
The source for multimedia production.......2001-11-09
The first clue as to the value of a book is the number of editions. Generally, the true standards in a field will continue to live and be revised. This book is the standard for multimedia design and production. The foundations and theory that are explored in the beginning are as valuable as the detail in the production process that is explained. The most significant aspect of this book has to be the detail concerning methods, especially instructional simulations. Simply a must have for anyone in the field of multimedia who is looking to develop products that go beyond the traditional page turner.

Product Description
Women were created for intimacy with God. But so many things get in the way! Past abuse. Regret. Shame. Feelings of unworthiness. How can worship hold any real meaning? Using the model of Mary of Bethany, who anointed Jesus feet with costly perfume, the authors help readers discover how the act of worship itself is transformation. Worship can be a place of truth and transparency! Through stories of gifted women who have overcome tremendous pain and obstacles to become worship leaders today, they show the deepness and wideness of God s love for women everywhere. They also explore the lives of biblical women who worshiped despite oppressive circumstances, and found strength and confidence to continue to focus on God. Readers will find courage to overcome the past and the desire to worship God extravagantly and wholeheartedly.
Customer Reviews:
Great book for Bible Study.......2007-05-07
We used this book for a Bible Study among women at our church. It was a great tool to open up discussiona and go deeper in the Word of God.
Lots to thinka bout.......2007-03-15
When Women Worship examines what is keeping women from transforming worship. Each chapter discusses what can get in the way of intimacy with God. The authors look at women in the Bible, their role in worship and how it affects us today. They also interview modern worship leaders and how they overcame obstacles to form deeper walks with God through worship.
What are some obstacles to worship?
-- Unwillingness to go to God to fill our spiritual needs
-- Shame
-- Regrets
-- Our past
-- Fear of vulnerability
The authors also tackle the subject of what worship is and is not. I think whether you are a man or a woman, you can glean some truth from these statements:
* Worship is a place of truth (John 4:21:24).
* Worship is not the ability to perform vocally.
* Worship is focusing everything I am on everything He is.
* Worship is not restricted or confined to the lifting of hands, the yielding of hearts and the dancing of feet.
* Worship is a way of gift wrapping our pain and our past into the present and then giving them over to God.
* Worship creates an environment in which the damage of sin can be reversed.
All in all, When Women Worship was an insightful book. My copy is heavily underlined. It gave me a lot to think about and left me wishing I had finished it on a Saturday so that I would have corporate worship the next day. It felt oddly unfinished to me. I felt charged, commissioned, empowered even, but a little unsure of what to do with this empowerment.
As the authors say and I too believe, "We have been empowered by God to do more with our lives than just look pretty." Now what is a woman to do about it?
Armchair Interviews says: Insightful thoughts on women and worship.
Inspiring.......2007-03-09
This book is offering a totally new way of understanding worship. The five steps to creating an atmosphere of intimacy with God are such a powerful and effective tool to draw closer to Him, to rediscover yourself, and to really feel the unconditional love of God.
Outrageous.......2007-03-08
This is a wonderful instrument that was created to help us women worship God in a more intimate way and finally putting to rest all of your past hurts and pains.
A Powerful Tool for all Women!.......2007-03-08
Amie Dockery and Mary Alessi have published a powerful tool for all women who feel that they are not worthy to be in God's presence. In five simple steps, women of all backgrounds will learn how to once and for all put the past behind them and to be overshadowed by the presence of God.

very philosophical and abstract.......2003-01-25
THis is a very difficult book to read, more for the professional designer and industrialist than for the lay reader curious about the company. I was astounded to learn that, behind the fabulous products this company creates, there is an entire philosophy: it references dadism and readymades, structuralism, and the Winnicott version of psychoanalysis (the company consciously seeks to creat "transition objects" that have deep emotional meanings for the consumers who like them)and that represents just a few of the influence. Much of that is very abstruce and admittedly over my head - I was reading the book in preparation for a writing project I am embarking upon on the company.
That being said, the images are fantastic and you get to know a lot about the company and the incredible family that founded and still manages it. It just isn't easy to read. Thus, I would recommend this book for those who want to know very deeply about this unique company, which is probably the best design firm for household goods in Europe if not the world. The book served my purposes as a professional, but I would never have gotten through it just for fun.

Book Description
Santa Fe photographer Joan Alessi provides a polychromatic exposition of New Mexico's traditional roadside memorials, descansos, as an art form. Her stunning photography captures the artistic attributes of these decorative crosses while preserving their religious and cultural integrity.
Sylvia Grider's accompanying essay explains the origin and folkloric tradition of roadside memorials. These religious markers are not in themselves unique to the southwestern United States. Rather, they are a universal phenomenon with a long and curious history. The term descanso (literally translated as "resting place"), however, may have indeed originated among the Spanish-speaking vecinos of New Mexico.
"The descansos contained in this book are a reflection of both the emotion and dedication of the devotees as they mourn the passing and celebrate the life of the beloved."--Art Gómez, National Park Service, supervisory historian; (coauthor) New Mexico: Images of a Land and Its People (UNM Press)
"The descansos contained in this book are a reflection of both the emotion and dedication of the devotees as they mourn the passing and celebrate the life of the beloved."--Art Gómez, supervisory historian, National Park Service

Book Description
Lose Fat Forever is the only no-nonsense guide to making fat loss permanent. Most diets fail us because they work against our bodies' natural ability to burn fat. The weight-loss industry has failed us too - most of their products and programs offer deceptive, short-term results served up with often dangerous, long-term consequences.
Here are the facts. With the right know-how, your body will become a fat-burning machine. As you develop lean muscle tissue, eat supportive food at the right time, and do moderate aerobic activity, you too will lose weight, feel great, and build the body you want - FOREVER! And you'll do it without diets, pills or hours of boring aerobic exercise. In Lose Fat Forever, fitness guru Derek Alessi puts it all together and makes it easy.
Customer Reviews:
This books sounds familiar........2006-04-05
I enjoyed the book as it was a simple read and written at a very basic level that almost anyone could understand. This made it possible to read "lose fat forever" in just a couple of hours. I found the "insightful" suggestions and recommendations to be on par with any clerk at the local vitamin or natural foods store, just basic recommendation on how we could stay healthier by taking our vitamins and drinking our herbal teas. Dietary suggestions steer you away from the fad diets, but we knew that already. I thought a nutritionist would provide more sound advice, not a regurgitation of common knowledge. The exercise suggestions were the same as I have read elsewhere, and are readily available for free with a simple web search. The author provided a few worthwhile comments but I felt that all in all this book told us what we already know in a less than thought provoking manner. If this was the only book that you ever read on fitness and weight loss, then you would be well served to pick up a copy, but if you have ever read even a few words on losing weight (or watched one episode of Oprah) then this probably isn't necessary for you. Like I said, it is a fairly well written book, and a quick read, but by no means is it a weight loss bible or the solution for helping you to "lose fat forever"
Simple, Easy to Follow & Yields Results.......2004-04-13
I heard about this book on a morning radio show and decided to check it out. I was surprised at how easy the book read and how common sense the approach seemed. I was never much for diets and was really just looking for a way to eat better and get into shape.
I started the program mid September; by the time I had my annual physical in January I had lost 21 pounds and lower cholesterol (LDL) than I had ever had. The interesting part was I wasn't doing any of the exercises the book outlined. Since January I have began the resistance training and to a lesser degree the cardio training outlined in the book. I can now "cheat" the whole weekend without fear of putting on any weight back on. Do I still have some body fat? Yes, but at 40 years old I don't need to look like an athlete. The change in my body composition is definitely noticeable. My arms, legs and stomach all have nice tone and for the first time in a long time, I won't be embarrassed at the beach or pool this summer.
The book is excellent because it not only outlined what to do, but why to do it, and why other myths or plans fail. The workouts are short, adaptable and varied enough to keep me interested. As the title says, it's simple, easy to follow and yields results and that's good enough for me!
Real Results - Real Common Sense.......2003-04-22
I read this book 4 months ago and followed the nutrition and fitness plan the Alessi's outline in the book. I am now 30 pounds lighter, have lost 3 inches off my waistline and am in the best shape I have ever been. What's better is that I am still seeing additional progress. I have been through Atkins, The Zone, and many other plans that never allowed me to reach my goals. This book produced results without an extreme, difficult to follow diet, just common sense food and portion sizes. Even the work-out plans are easy to stay with. The title of the book says it all!

Well-presented, with suggestions worth trying.......2003-04-02
Book after book offers advice on weight loss, fat-burning and miracle cure. This book says why most of the advice we get is bogus and often counterproductive. Weight loss programs urge us to lose weight quickly, but only water weight that comes back with a vengeance - and keeps weight loss companies in business. The Alessis suggest eating healthful foods in moderate quantities, emphasizing the things that speed up the body's metabolism. They also recommend a varied workout plan, using resistance and cardio training to turn fat into lean muscle. The best advice is to not look at the scale, and focus more on whether your clothes fit better, since watching the weight can be misleading, counterproductive and discouraging. Throughout the book, I kept thinking "That's a good point" and it's a program worth trying. It can't hurt, anyway.
Book Description
Welcome to the incredibly beautiful and intriguing world of the Tarot. The purpose of this book, Rebirth of the Oracle - The Tarot for the Modern World, is to simplify and demystify this ancient oracle and to make it accessible to anyone who would like to read the cards.
The meanings given to the cards in this book are drawn from the experiences of thousands of readings. They are also written with an eye toward updating the Tarot, bringing this ancient oracle into the 21st century. You will see meanings displayed for the cards that were not heard of, or even dreamed of, in the early centuries of the Tarot. These include everything from media exposure to abortion to identity theft.

Self Knowledge.......2005-10-05
Justine entered my life during the darkest days I had ever known, being a skeptic, I had a reading for a lark. She opened my eyes with her amazing compassion, insight and spirituality and guided me to the path was was in my mind already, but I was unable to open my eyes and see it. Her book shows tremendous compassion and understanding and removes the 'black magic' and 'devil' definitions that so many unenlightened people assume about the tarot. She helps you to interpret the cards to understand yourself and your loved ones in a way that is applicable to our world we live in today. This is a must read for anyone who believes, or is just curious. Learning never ends. She opens your eyes to new ideas, and that will keep you young!
Defining the Tarot in a Modern World.......2005-06-03
Rebirth of the Oracle is a well-written, informative book that defines the Tarot in a way that is most understandable to anyone who reads it. Ms.Alessi and Ms. McMillan are accomplished writers. I have had my cards read by Justine Alessi and can honestly say that she expressed things to me through her reading that only I had known personally. I was absolutely amazed with her gift of insight.I would encourage everyone to read this book and to look at Justine's website (justinealessi.com) to further his or her understanding of the Tarot. I look forward to a sequel to this book.

Enlightenment at it's best!.......2005-05-26
I have been interested in Tarot reading for many years and buy whatever is new about the subject.Rebirth Of The Oracle by Alessi and McMillan is unquestionably the best Tarot book I have ever read.Reading the Court Cards is a real treat. The depth of understanding these two women have about the significations in Tarot is unparalleled. As I read the Queen of Pentacles,it was as if these women knew me personally !My metaphysical group had a marvelous time reading the significators and applying it to our own lives. The clarity and conciseness of this book far overshadows any of the one hundred plus books I have read on the subject. For any reader, novice or master, this book is a must have!I can say with certainty that this is the only book necessary because every bit of information and any question you could possibly want an answer to is between the covers of this gem of a book.
A great tool for TruthSeekers........2005-05-22
Having known Justine for many years, I am very aware of her ability to cut through nonsense and get to the heart of the matter. That's why having her book mattered. I knew it would provide enlightenment, understanding, and wisdom. I was right! Most people are curious about what is happening or may happen in their lives and Justine's book defines that curiousity simply and clearly, providing answers that might otherwise not be understood. This book goes further than most in making clear the meanings behind these little understood cards. Her book takes them out of the realm of the dark ages and into the light of the New Age. She writes in a manner that most people should be able to relate when applied to this era we live in. That is one of the attributes that makes this book so appealing. It's a must for any TruthSeeker. I loved it. Justine is a powerful force and her book proves it. I am priviledged to have benefitted from her gift of divination and now others may know too.
Excellent Book for Learning about the Tarot and Yourself.......2005-04-04
Having known Justine Alessi for several years, I am so excited about the book release. In my estimation, this book will usher the Tarot into modern times and translate what has otherwise been depicted as archaic and mysterious. The topics that the book addresses cover a wide variety of situations that pertain to all walks of life. The book is very well written and easy to follow. Justine has changed my life and I know that her wisdom and insight have helped me and countless others achieve their goals and exceed personal expectations. Congratulations on this wonderful achievement. I am so proud to say I know you.

Customer Reviews:
Not just another diet and exercise book.......2002-06-07
The Promise: Fat Loss & Fitness System by certified fitness consultants Derek and Don Alessiis is not just another diet and exercise book. These two brothers collaboratively draw upon more than a decade of practical experience with professional atheletes and busy professionals to present a scathing expose as to why simple "dieting" is a poor way to lose weight - simply reducing one's calorie intake merely causes the body to slow down its metabolism, in an ancient, inborn defense against starvation. The Promise instead proffers a twofold path to better health: proper nutrition, ensuring that one's food intake is balanced and contains all the necessary vitamins and minerals, and moderate exercise to build lean muscle tissue. A tested and meaningful guide to improving one's health and overall well-being, The Promise is very highly recommended reading for anyone concerned with their physical health and well-being.
Get up & start today!.......2002-05-17
I have really enjoyed reading The Promise. After 23 years of treating a major back injury with the use of alternative modalities, a month ago I have started walking and am up to 3 miles 3-4 times a week. I added small weights in at home for the arms and am doing a beginner Pilates tape on the days I don't walk. I am looking forward to incorporating more of your tips into my routine. I like the format that you have used because it is easy to follow and you don't make me feel like a "dummy" because I didn't already understand the things you were describing.
Finally, a book that isn't claiming weight loss "overnight".......2002-05-04
In today's world where we seem to need everything overnight it was refreshing to read the truth which is that somethings cannot be acheived that quickly. The authors of The Promise are up front and let you know that personal health and fitness is a life long commitment. They warn against the marketing of all these 'magic pills' and 'quick fixes' and explain why they don't work. Being someone who has tried them all, it was uplifting to realize that it was not me, but rather these products that were the real problem. Their use of real life encounters also helped in realizing that others have had the same problems that I have had and that with hard work and dedication to good health I can achieve my fitness goals. I also enjoyed them exposing the 'fat free' marketers and explaining what that term really means. This is truly a great book!

Book Description
With a new introduction by Professor Christopher Frayling, it features may new products and ranges launched in the four years since the last edition; these include 'Alessitronics', the electrical kitchen appliances produced in association with Philips, and 'Comix in the Kitchen'.
Alessi emerged at the forefront of design activity in the 1980s. Founded in 1921 to produce crafted products in metal for eating and drinking, Alberto Alessi launched the company into the design decade through his unique collaboration with designers and architects such as Alessandro Mendini, Ettore Sottsass, Richard Sapper and Achille Castiglioni, and the creation of two main trade marks; Alessi, geared towards mass production, and Officina Alessi towards more experimental limited editions.
Alberto Alessi discusses the company's design ethos, viewing it as a research laboratory in the applied arts. In comprehensive extracts from the Alessi Factory Journal he provides valuable insights into the evolution of products and his relationship with their designers. Alessandro Mendini, Ettore Sottsass, Richard Sapper, Achille Castiglioni, Richare Meier, Hans Hollein and Andrea Branzi contribute statements on their work with Alessi, and there are essays by Michael Graves, Nonie Niesewand, Marco Migliari and Daniel Weil. All the famous products are fully illustrated as well as much less well-known and unpublished material. Following the rebuttal of the design decade, this book shows how Alessi flourishes and develops in the late 1990s.

Excelent book.......2001-12-22
It's a great book. The authors explain step by step from tutorials to simulations.
A Valuable Resource.......2000-05-02
This book is excellent. There are many sections, in fact, which I will refer back to later as job aids. This book reinforces and elaborates on many concepts and methods that I, as an instructional designer, have been using intuitively when developing courses. It provides a structure to the process of organizing content and developing computer-based training. The only drawback to this book is that it is slightly out of date from a technology standpoint. However, it is so strong in every other area, including instructional design, interface design, interactivity design, and project management, that its strengths far outweigh its weaknesses. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who designs or develops CBT and WBT, I think it will prove to be a valuable resource.
This is a MUST for CBT and WBT developers.......1999-05-29
This book should be on the shelf of very instructional designer and course developer responsible for creating computer-based training or web-based training. The book stands out for three important reasons: (1) if offers concrete directions regarding how to develop instruction at the lesson level; (2) the recommendations are based on research findings and when research findings are contradictory the authors acknowledge the divergence; and (3) the book is well written, it is accessible to the average reader. The first chapter **alone** makes the book worth the price - it will help you answer the question "What is the difference between information and instruction?"
A wide-ranging overview of methods and development for CBI.......1998-09-11
Seen from the point fo view of a non-expert readers, and comparing with
<10 other books on similar subjects, the book looks quite good. It covers most of the basic types of learning activities (tutorials, drills, simulations, educational games and tests), plus a detailled overview on more organisational issues (analysis, design, ...), some chapters on technology for implementation of CBI as well as more advanced topics as instructional modelling, computer managed instruction and AI-techniques. Good reading, no hyper-specialised vocabulary. Happy that my holiday in canada brought me back this good reading to Flanders (Belgiium/Europe). Coming from an IT background (engineering & computing), it gives some goods clues on project management for development of CBI products. Les solid on educational/didactic theories.
Hesitating between 3 and 4 stars (don't feedl myself sufficiently qualified to give higher scores).
