Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

The guns, the girls, the gadgets, all the key ingredients of Bond --James Bond -- are captured in this one-of-a-kind collection of movie posters. Gathered from the archives of Eon Productions and published to coincide with the 40th anniversary of Bond movies and the release of the newest James Bond movie, James Bond Movie Posters depicts in hot type and bold color four decades of our favorite spy in action. Then followed the famous image of Bond with a gun across his chest on the poster for From Russia with Love, Goldfinger's startling golden girl, and the inimitable Pussy Galore. These images have become some of the most memorable visual teasers in cinematic history and are now one of the hottest items of memorabilia among both Bond aficionados and movie collectors. I bought this book as a present for the huge James Bond fan in my life and it was perfect. He really enjoyed looking at all of the classic posters from the various movies. If you have someone who really is a Bond fanatic, this is the way to go!

5 out of 5 stars Definitely worth it!.......2007-02-12

I bought this for my husband's birthday, he's a HUGE Bond fan...he was really excited about this book, and i was impressed with the large format and the posters from around the world for the different Bond films. Definitely worth buying, even as a book to leave on the coffee table for people to flip through.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Collection of James Bond Movie Posters.......2006-12-01

This is a wonderful collection of James Bond Movie Posters. The illustrations and quality of the images are outstanding. They are crisp and sharp and very colorful. This book covers Bond posters from all over the world. The composition of the Japanese posters are quite eye catching and innovative. This is a wonderful and essential book for James Bond enthusiasts.

5 out of 5 stars How times have changed...........2006-11-22

I am echoing another reviewer in lamenting the sorry state of movie posters in 2006. The Octopussy campaign from 1983 was simply stunning as the myriad posters in this volume show at least 3-4 different pieces of artwork, each one beautifully painted and in keeping with the Indian theme. The use of Octopussy herself as a Hindu goddess behind Bond was brilliant.

Compare that to the current ad campaign for Casino Royale -- which is virtually indistinguishable from a Gucci billboard. It says nothing about the film, its minimalism ill-conceived and simply lazy. Worse still was the "Die Another Day" poster which was quite simply four layerrs in Photoshop: Pierce and Halle, a background, and the type layer. Moreover a simple type-treatment for the title, nothing like the individualized logotype for a film such as Octopussy. I could go on... This is a gorgeous book.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent chronical of James Bond movie posters.......2005-08-27

I just received this fantastic James Bond poster collection book and I have to say, this is indispensable stuff, going all the way from Dr NO to Die Another Day, and even including oddities like Casino Royale and Never Say Never Again. Author Tony Nourmand has clearly put a great amount of effort and research into the making of this book, and it shows. Beautifully presented, this has quickly turned out to be one of my preferred movie books. Showcasing classic posters from some of the leading graphic artists of the 1970s and 80s like Robert McGinnis (Live and Let Die and The Man with The Golden Gun are amazing), Bob Peak (Moonraker), Frank McCarthy, Renato Casaro and Randi Braun, their collective works culminate in a lavishly presented masterwork that looks fantastic. Footnotes on subtle changes that were made to some late 70s movie posters are particularly welcome, as are the informative and interesting introductions that accompany the film-based chapters. The Sean Connery films for instance, comprise extensive thoughts from Nourmand talking about discarded poster ideas and how the change of leading man from Connery to George Lazenby caused some marketing concerns. It's not difficult to see why some of the early posters like From Russia With Love are sought after by collectors, these highly prized masterpieces are worth thousands by today's market. Being a poster collector myself, I've found that this is a particularly lucrative hobby. Theses are not just your average, run of the mill images, these are works of art that look beautiful on the wall. Poster layouts for the Roger Moore era are the most elaborate, indicating the change in times, Britain and America's quickly changing tastes, and the myriad of factors that are involved in this particular art. Foreign posters from Japan and Spain display the differential takes on how these particular films should be marketed, and the changes that were made by more conservative global regions to the more sexually suggestive artwork. Reading it, one notices the gradual change from traditional watercolor artwork to photo mosaics and stylish computer-aided photography. Which is, arguably less impressive, but mostly, the posters for the new Pierce Brosnan films do carry on the subtle nuances and certain recognizable M.O that is so popular. This is must-have material for 007 fans and poster fans alike and inspiration for aspiring artists in the field of movies.

Book Description

Legendary impresario Bill Graham began in January 1966 to commission posters to promote the concerts he was putting on at San Francisco's Fillmore Auditorium. The poster artists created vivid, irreverent banners that reflected their own sense of poetics, style, and wit. What resulted were signature juxtapositions of design, lettering, and color that represented a brand-new art form. These posters now occupy a place in art history while surviving as treasured artifacts of rock archaeology.

Published in cooperation with Bill Graham Presents, The Art of the Fillmore reunites for the first time in a single volume the original Bill Graham posters created exclusively for the San Francisco and New York Fillmore dance concerts. Indexes cross-reference the posters with the bands they advertised and the poster artists who created them.

5 out of 5 stars High on the colors.......2007-10-10

This is the most comprehensive collection of psychedelic art I could find. Remember a time when commercial design came from the heart to the pen. No computer enhanced 3-D images. Just wavy brush strokes and colors bold enough to get you high. Pick it up, and trip out.

4 out of 5 stars Useful Resource.......2007-06-17

The main positives: this is complete, showing the first and most modest flyer, up through the closing of the Fillmore; almost all the flyers are at least partly in color, and they do indeed show the tenor of the era (which I well remember).

The main negative: most of these are shown as a small part of each page; few are relatively large, and I don't recall any being full-page size. So, don't buy this book in the expectation that you're getting a collection of full-page reproductions (even reduced in size from the originals, as they would be).

5 out of 5 stars Important historical document found!.......2007-02-26

This zeros in on what the sixties meant to me. A period of artistic creativity without bounds and limits. One giant leap for mankind...I used to sit in art class and try to copy the lettering in some of these psychedelic posters and it was hard. And to think these San Francisco artist were so prolific as to produce a new one or two every week. I was in awe of this period and love to look back on that scene. Thanks to the Bill Graham estate for compiling this tomb from the ancient ones that came before us.

5 out of 5 stars Superb.......2006-10-08

The psychedelic posters from the late 1960's are classic and very much a part of rock history. These posters were commissioned by Bill Graham, who ran the Fillmore East and West, and other venues. The posters were beautiful and colorful and psychedelic. They were carefully created and used to promote the concerts, but what makes them so amazing is that all this work to promote only a few weekend concerts, which typically featured three or four bands playing on Friday and Saturdays. Never again would such works of art capture the moment. This book tells you about the artists and how they came to become Fillmore artists, and of course full color reproductions of the Fillmore posters are prominently featured through the book. If you love the posters, you'll love the book.

4 out of 5 stars Art of the FIllmore - Posters 1966-1971.......2005-10-26

As a person who attended some of the shows represented by the posters, I loved the book. It brought back many, many memories and inspirations. The book captured the essence of Bill Graham as an entrepreneur and, as it turned out, supporter of the arts.
Not a book for everyone, but if you were there, or you think you wanted to be there, this is a great value.

Theater posters, as producer Bernard Gerstein writes in the introduction to this sumptuous book, are a strange combination of fine art, illustration, and advertising. But all three elements are rarely combined as successfully as in James McMullan's posters, which for over twenty years have been catching the eyes of New Yorkers on billboards, subway platforms, and along the sides of buses.

McMullan has had a long-standing, fruitful relationship with Lincoln Center. While the 35 posters he developed for the Center have given it a recognizable graphic identity, they've given McMullan the opportunity to experiment and hone his craft in a medium more often the purview of advertising executives and marketing strategists. The result is a body of work that celebrates the expressive power of the human form, including the celebrated image of the yakking newspaperman from his poster for The Front Page and the saucy over-the-shoulder peek from the alluring ingenue of Anything Goes.

As an added treat, McMullan includes sketches, first drafts, photos of models, and several rejected or cropped designs, including a poster for Waiting for Godot and a portrait of Sam Waterston for Abe Lincoln in Illinois that are as good as anything in the book. With their joyous use of primary colors and dynamic capturing of actors in motion, these images are both wonderfully decorative and a fine celebration of the spontaneous excitement of live theater. --John Longenbaugh

    Book Description

On buses, billboards, and train platforms, in newspapers and magazines, a poster's swift promise in glorious color or powerful dark tones offers a vivid impression of what awaits a theatergoer, and provides the lasting mental image of a play long after its closing night. No one creates such images with more invention, honesty, and beauty--sometimes disturbingly, but always memorably--than James McMullan. The Theater Posters of James McMullan is an illuminating collection of thirty-six posters from 1976 to the present (from Arcadia and Carousel to Six Degrees of Separation), almost all of them for New York's Lincoln Center Theater, by this artist for whom "the body itself becomes a quickly understood gesture like the movement of a mime or a dance." The ragman hanging off the lamppost with his flaming match in Road, the French-postcard wink of the Anything Goes woman, Eros aiming his arrow in Four Baboons Admiring the Sun . . . full-page reproductions of McMullan's posters accompany his stories of their geneses. Reference photographs, sketches, and alternate versions illustrate his search for the perfect visual metaphor. Most of all, the personalities and dramas of the theater people who surrounded each poster's birth--from Wole Soyinka and John Guare to Liv Ullmann, Patti LuPone, and Mike Nichols--fill this gift book of choice for all theater and art lovers.

As a student who is interested in pursuing illustration, this book is a golden gem for it is a rather thorough journey that is fun to dive into. While many other books similiar to this would simply showcase all the artists' body of work, this book reveals the creative struggle that James McMullan went through with each poster to create an image that met his client's needs. Reference photographs of his models and early color and pencil studies depict the story that is accompanied with each poster that describes McMullan's process. Sometimes an early draft of one of his posters didn't hit the nail with the director of the play: the character depicted in the image needed to look older and more angry, less naive. Whatever the case, McMullan would have to go back and rework. And in some cases, he might even start over with an entirely new idea and take a different road with the poster. With each poster, there's a different story, a different process, a different challenge. And none of the posters that are shown in here have been neglected for the book reveals it all. Above all, I appreciate James McMullan's conceptual talent with his posters that manage to create an image that defines the play as a whole. With this book, it is a pleasure to find the process behind these posters as well as being able to gaze upon their beauty.

    5 out of 5 stars A sensory feast.......1999-01-25

Rarely is one able to glimpse into the world of a well-known illustrator. But, in this book, the illustrator James McMullan, takes us into his studio and explains just how he has created the 36 posters, over a 30 year period, for New York City's Lincoln Center. The full-page reproductions of McMullan's posters combined with his lucid prose makes this a beautiful and highly engrossing book. When I went to buy McMullan's book the bookstore clerk said, "this is the most gorgeous book in the store." Indeed, he was right.

    Book Description

There's something magical, almost mystical, about horses. Our earliest ancestors felt it--on the walls and ceilings of the caves of Lascaux and Altamira are magnifcent images of horses that were painted 40,000 years ago.

In Dream Horses: A Poster Book, Bob Langrish, one of the world's leading equine photographers, continues the tradition of celebrating the beauty, the power, and the mystery of the horse. Horse-crazy kids will be enchanted by the book's 30 spectacular poster-size photographs. Horse-loving adults who appreciate fantasy photography will be awestruck by Langrish's superb compositions. With the sure hand of a master, he has manipulated these images so that each shot has a fantastical, even mythological quality.

These dreamlike scenes, accompanied by inspired text, tell a story that is otherworldly, and yet still familiar.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect Horse Lover Gift.......2007-07-01

The first customer, Luan Gaines wrote a perfect review. I too bought this for my one of my little girls who loves everything & anything horses. She looks at each & every page over & over. The rest of the world just melts away when she & I have this book open. This poster book of horses was beautifully put together. Sheer genius!!! Stunning photo after photo! Your horse lover will treasure this gift forever.

    3 out of 5 stars enchanted horses.......2007-01-24

This picture book is full of beautiful pictures of horses. All of them are amazing and beautiful. All of them, however, are pictures of horses in motion. A lovely sight, undoubtedly, but I also enjoy pictures of horses in stillness, and in this regard, the book comes empty.

5 out of 5 stars The stuff of fantasy.......2005-03-05

I ordered this book expecting a series of beautifully photographed horses, but was stunned by the creativity and exceptional quality of the 30 poster-sized images, the outstanding work of the leading equine photographer. Page after page of gorgeous horses are posed against backgrounds of air, water, sky and color. Each page is accompanied by a small amount of text, but I must confess that I was enthralled by the fantastical photographs.

The animals appear as though in the land of myth, floating through the clouds or splashing in the foaming surf, their manes blowing, captured in each perfect moment, page by page. Whether the white horse rearing, or three black beauties at leisure, these pictures are the stuff of fairy tales. I keep expecting to see a horn, the hallmark of the mythological unicorn.

I bought Dream Horse as a gift for a little girl who loves horses and was delighted by her response to this exploration of the beauty and fantasy of these animals. She fell in love with these portraits, urging me to look at each new image, her eyes sparkling with the joy of a new-found treasure. This book is an excellent gift, a combination of myth, fantasy and magical horses fit for a princess. Luan Gaines/ 2005.

5 out of 5 stars A MUST For Every Horror & Sci-Fi Fan, If You Can Get It!.......2000-07-15

I stumbled across this book about 6 years ago in a sales rackat Crown Books in Topanga Canyon, California. There were only threeleft, so I picked one up... How I wish I had snatched all three, because it is now impossible to get and some dealers are asking a fortune for used versions (Ron offers the best price and his are new!). One of a kind posters, many that are different versions from the same film and sometimes foreign versions, are artfully arranged and beautifully reprinted throughout this book. The reader can enjoy the fabulous art again and again, as well as learn quite a bit about the history of film posters, lobby cards and one sheets. Ron's narrative about his love for collecting posters is a treat and he paints a great picture with words of what it was like when he and his friends started out collecting. I urge you to visit Ron's shop on Hollywood Blvd. for a look at some truly classic film posters if you just can't seem to find this great book. What can I say but, "Five Thumbs Up!" (And thanks, Ron, for sharing!)

I have seen the collection in person and let me tell you that this book is phenomenal! . There is no book that comes close to this masterpiece. Ron still sells copies at his store in Hollywood. It is a must for any horror fan. From silent to the 70's it's all in there. There are even some items in his book that are 1 of a kind. Yes, the only specimens left on the planet earth. A feast for the eyes!

        Book Description

Even after the emergence of clean digital design, graphic artists still like to get their hands dirty. Poster Collection 11: Handmade, the latest in the series from the poster collection of the Zurich Museum für Gestaltung, presents both international and Swiss works whose makers have used their own hands for a variety of reasons--autonomy, spontaneity, independence, or delight in experiment. This might manifest itself in turning the current idiom on its head with analogue processing of a digital aesthetic or, more radically still, in the inclusion of solids and other material in the making of the poster or in duplicating by hand. Nevertheless, these works are a long way away from retro-romanticism. Contemporary, cutting-edge design arbiters like Stefan Sagmeister and Cornel Windlin show you how it's done. Essay by Claude Lichtenstein. Paperback, 6.5 x 9.5 in./80 pgs / 70 color.

GREAT POSTER!! The guide is well written and informative. I'm very happy with my buy!

P.S. do not read this if you have not read most of the redwall books because you'll ruin some of the surprises.

5 out of 5 stars A good companion for any Redwall fan!.......2002-03-23

My kids love Redwall. If your's do to, this is a good companion. The poster is pretty neat. I also recommend books by Robert Stanek, Kingdoms and the Elves, the Elf Queen and the King. A Series of Unfortunate Events Books. Other books by Robert Stanek.

        5 out of 5 stars Cool poster.......2001-04-07

this book is great. The packet isn't much, but the poster is awesome. It includes the most important charachters (good and bad guys). It has beautiful artwork and shows the sword of Martin, which I was curious about. It's GRRRRRREAT!!!!!!

1 out of 5 stars Disappointing and misleading.......2001-03-12

We bought this for our library collection... and there is nothing in the description to show that this is a flimsy paperback "guide" (glued to a piece of cardboard that cannot be circulated) to the Redwall characters and a large poster. The poster is pretty, but this is not at all what we thought we were getting. I would give this less than one star if it were possible

        1 out of 5 stars redwall.......2000-12-11

I have read everyone of the redwall books and they were great but this book I found borry and mature.
