Book Description
This sumptuous collector's volume showcases, at actual size, over 600 objects and drawings from Cartier's vast archives-many for the first time. The text recounts how this collection of over 1,200 items, dating from the 1860s to the present, was formed; explains the antique jewelry market; and imparts the artistic genius that places Cartier among the world's premier jewelers. Devoted to fine jewelry, this book presents pieces that were designed for the Duchess of Windsor, Daisy Fellowes, and Barbara Hutton alongside the Maharadjah of Patiala's recently restored necklace that once contained the famous De Beers diamond. Fascinating stories and complete technical details present Cartier's most artful creations, from glittering tiaras to pieces from the famous "bestiary" of panthers, dragons, chimera, birds, and crocodiles, as well as rare brooches, necklaces, and bracelets.
With its lavish slipcase, over a dozen gatefolds, extensive documentation, illustrated chronology, and index, this book is a must for specialists in the decorative arts and jewelry, and a publishing event for the quality of its design and reproductions.

I'm very unsatisfied about the price gap between two identical products, and lack of responses.......2007-05-14
Hi,
Althought I've bought the exactly same products, the price gap between them was over 100 dollars. I don't understand hos this happens. And secondly, I'm getting frustrated about my returned item. You are not responding for such a long period of time, and there's no way to contact you guys directly.
Please review over my past purchases and tell me what is going on.
Thank you

A must have for any bead collector!.......2007-06-27
A wonderful and very desciptive history of beads. Excellent quality photos, this book can used to help the novice or the serious bead collector.
Excellent photos, difficult reading.......2006-01-16
Although the photos of beads are excellent, I found this book far too much like a PhD dissertation, with the feel of a synthesis, having substance but written in a format which was difficult to read. Bibliographic references imbedded in the text just add to the unreadable style. The text is painfully lacking in the kind of information I appreciate, such as dating, geography, and clear references to the individual beads presented in the photos. And references to values of beads in dollars has no relevant meaning unless there is a time reference. As a reference book I would rate it of minimal worth. As a coffee table amusement it is acceptable, but would need far more photos to make it useful for that purpose.
Beautiful Book But Not For Beginners.......2000-10-29
This is a beautifully written, beautifully illustrated book, however, it is definitely for the advanced bead collector. Its main focus is on beads the average person could not find or afford. I am a beginner in the bead collecting world and needed a book that was more of an identifying guide. The chances of me running across a bead that was illegally excavated from an archeological dig in a foreign country are slim..and I wouldn't know what to do with it anyway. I'm returning the book and continuing the search.
A stunning work of art........2000-07-22
This is a work of immense proportions. Robert Liu is both a scholar and an artist. This is a work which draws on both sets of skills, and the result is wonderful. For bead lovers it's a definative work. As a scholarly piece, it likely has material of interest to those interested in art history and world culture as well. It's an important book and one that would be sorely missed if it ever went out of print--I say this as one who's passed on books like this, only to search the world over for them when they were no longer available...get this one now. You won't regret it.
An outstanding and invaluable book for all bead lovers.......1998-03-18
Robert K. Liu is one of the foremost authorities today in the field of collectible beads. In this book he gives clear and succinct insight regarding collectible beads from all over the world. In some cases he gives approximate monetary values, but the book is mostly a celebration by someone who knows as to the place which beads have played in cultures around the world from ancient times to the present. A necessary help for anyone who collects or is thinking of collecting beads. It will save time and money.

Love this stuff.......2007-09-29
I had always wanted to try chain maille but didn't know where to start. This book gave me all the information I needed. The instructions and diagrams are easy to follow. My first project was the bracelet on page 78, took me about 8 hours all together. We went to Ren Faire and got several compliments on it. It is a lot easier than it looks, just time consuming. I can't wait to get into more involved projects. Plan to do the braided bracelet on page 99 next and more Ren related items.
Chain Mail Jewelrey.......2007-08-05
Just receiving this book excited me for days. The basics of the craft, projects, diagrams and pictures of the finished items were all excellent. A list of suppliers would be helpful as unusual rings were used.
Wonderful Chain Mail.......2007-08-02
Have nearly finished the very first chain mail bracelet I have ever attempted, admittededly it is a beginners bracelet, but I have found the instructions exceptionally clear and easy to read, and the end result
I think will be very satisfying. Will be attempting a few more projects
in the book. The Byzantine Parure set for instance and the wonderful
plaited bracelet and also the really beautiful lariat necklace.
If you are at all interested in chain mail then this is the book for you
and is without doubt the best book available right now for this type
of jewellery. I wish I could find more books with these exceptional
type of projects in it....
GREAT BOOK!!!.......2007-06-13
very specific and very GOOD investment, glad I bought it! Highly recommend to buy!
chain Mail Jewelry.......2007-05-10

Book Description
Exciting medium, new formulations: perfect for crafters at all skill levels
Award-winning, best-selling author with great crafts credentials
First book on resin that provides detailed techniques and varied super-appealing projects
Resin jewelry is made from liquid plastic that magically turns solid when a hardener is added. Pretty cool! The popularity of these resins for jewelry making has soared with the introduction of easy-to-mix, low-odor products, ideal for crafters. Now best-selling author Sherri Haab shows how to put the miracle of modern technology to work making necklaces, bangles, bracelets, pins, earrings, and rings. Projects range from simple to sophisticated, from Bakelite-style heart pins to faux amber earrings to glitter gem bracelets, from scrimshaw bracelets to cloisonné pins to transparent resin necklaces backed with gold leaf. Packed with tips on tools, supplies, finishing, and creating special effects, including ideas on combining resins with polymer clay, The Art of Resin Jewelry is a beautiful and practical introduction to an exciting craft.
Customer Reviews:
Safety first.......2007-09-21
You must use protective gear when using resin products but the precautions are worth the results. Sherri shows you how to use epoxy, polyurethane and polyester resins to imbed candy, flowers and found objects to make jewelry elements. You can make imitation amber by including bugs and vegetable matter in resins and make amber's "sun spangles" by mixing in gold or bronze leaf. It's pretty exciting to see how Sherri uses a combination of black polymer clay, very fine glitter, Pearl Ex(tm) powdered pigments and Envirotex Lite® epoxy to make a light-weight cabochon that looks just like dichroic glass.
When using resins, use NIOSH-approved protective gear (respirator and nitrile or butyl gloves) and keep away from food preparation areas. Always read the resin product's Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) prior to using it. When drilling or sanding resin pieces, you must wear a dust mask. Other than standard beading tools and findings, an embossing gun will come in handy to get rid of air bubbles during the resin's drying process. You can use ready-made rubber molds or use Sherri's techniques to make your own molds from an existing piece or your original polymer clay sculpture.
If you already enjoy working with polymer clay, working with resins will expand your creativity and this book will help to get you (safely) started.
Choice of art pieces.......2007-09-09
This book is a wonderful resource for anyone interested in making resin jewlery. Its in depth and as always Sherri Haab explains in detail just "how to" do it. My disappointment is with the pieces of jewlery she chose to create. There are only a few that I would duplicate. That said if you are wanting to learn this medium then buy the book.
Great all-round resin jewellery book.......2007-02-10
I am really happy with this book. It has a great selection of projects and lots of different types of resin jewellery. Lots of pictures. I haven't made anything yet but it seems really easy to follow.
this book is great.......2007-01-10
Sherri Haab can always be relied to to produce great books with funky projects that you actually want to make. Can't fault this one at all - fantastic!
Great Book For Inspiring Artists.......2007-01-10
I am speaking on behalf of my company (Fibreglass & Resin Sales), we sell this book to many customers, although some of my staff have also purchased the book. It has great, handy ideas for those who love their crafts, and even those who are new in the craft world! If you interested in Resin Art, I would recommend this book to get you going!!!
Book Description
Jewelry making is one of the most popular craft trends, and its audience continues to grow. Few jewelry books on the market emphasize the importance of the design relationship between beads, wire, and jewelry findingsthe nuts and bolts of any piece. This book will show not only how to design and build your own spectacular jewelry out of beads and wire but how to design and create your own findings as well.
Most jewelry making books are geared for the beginner and provide little information for intermediate to advanced jewelry makers.
Making Designer Bead and Wire Jewelry contains illustrated how-to techniques, full-color project photos, project instructions, and numerous tips that enhance the styles and skills presented. Intermediate and advanced jewelry makers will learn new techniques for creating signature elements for their designs, while beginners will get a handle on honing their skills.

A good guide.......2007-07-25
I bought this book as a gift for my mother. She has found it useful, easy to understand. It is full of photographs and illustrations of all the procedures and so it is very "user friendly".
Dressed-up beginner's book ...'Bead on a Wire' recommended instead........2007-06-08
I was disappointed with this book because it had the same info with less design ideas, as 'Bead on a Wire' by Sharilyn Miller. To be fair, if I had bought this book first, instead of vice-a-versa, I might not have felt as let down as I was; but, I don't think so...
All the wire designs seem to be based on one theme--the two, three or four 'Loop Eye' headpin, and how to string beads.
The book should have BEGINNER'S somewhere on the front cover. If you have already have a book listing the basic tools & techniques, you don't need this one.
Fil from LYF Designs.......2007-06-02
This is an excellent book for beginners with beautiful but simple designs to inspire
nothing exicting.......2007-05-01
I enjoy reading beadwork books and have over 100 books. Most of them are Japanese, Korean and Chinese bead books, which mainly focus on stringing and are quite different from the beadwork in US. Then I was thinking to read more about wirework books and decided to get some from Amazon...
After reading the previous reviews, I thought this one might be good... But I must say that it is very disappointing... The instruction is OK and somewhat too simple and you can find similar info via internet...
The projects and the gallery are not exciting at all. (If you look closer at the pictures, the quality of some projects are really lousy.)... Many commercial online bead suppliers have much better design gallery... Another complaint is the instruction drawing. It seems there isn't a consistency to show the dominant hand and non-dominant hand ( which is important to use the tool , I think...)
If you are a very beginner, probably the best wirework book you should consider is "All wired up" by Mark Lareau. If you like step-by-step photography, I think "Getting Started Making Wire Jewelry and More " by Linda Chandler and Christine R. Ritchey is a good pick.
I would not purchase this book if I wasn't too lazy to check it out at a local Michael's.
Great book!!.......2007-02-10
Very good for anyone wanting to work with wire but might have been a little afraid. I am a beginner and it is awesome in its details and drawings for making findings and jewelry. I like all the practical jewelry pieces shown as well and have already made some of them.
Book Description
This visually stunning guide provides readers with the techniques and advice they need to transform jewelry designs into reality. First it examines the basic elements of design, including size, material, function and color. Next it considers the conceptual style in which the crafter wants to make the piece, such as geometric, figurative, and organic.
Each design concept is explored with a discussion of its main characteristics and how they can be conveyed through jewelry design as well as an overview of the essential tools needed to create each design element.

Jewelry Design.......2007-05-31
If you want to learn about design and don't want to just copy what you see, then this is the book. Makes everything easy to understand.
Need inspiration and a start point? this is the book you need!.......2007-05-25
I'm an industrial designer, and recently got hired as jewelry designer...
I was searching for a book that gives me a clue of where to start in the jewelry business, so i can know what to do when my boss gives me a notebook and a pencil and ask me "to create"...
what tools you need (not the technical ones... the creative ones), what are the stages of the design process, where can you search for inspiration and how organize your ideas, things that you gotta have in mind to design jewelry, types of jewelry, etc etc etc... After that you will need other books for technical stuff or bring your designs to a professional craftmaker.
Beware, this book is NOT technical, and it won't show you step to step "how to make a pair of earrings", most of the examples of the book are too crazy and unwearable for cotidian life, but i feel this is not the purpose of this book, this book instead will show you how to develope your creativity applied to jewelry...
Could not wait to return the book.......2006-03-29
Really did not like the book -- half of the pictures of such ugly strange unrealistic jewelry... Returned the book at once... Highly recommend this one instead: Techniques of Jewelry Illustration & Color Rendering by Adolfo Mattiello.
Best Book for learning Quality Design .......2005-08-31
It was a true friend that recommended me to get this book. It's relatable information and loads of examples that I craved. I appreciate the intellegent 'you've got to work for design' approach - it affirms that good design is not just a lucky happen chance - but a skill to be refined and appreciated. Elizabeth Olver gives you the tools to aquire the skill. This book will always be at my side!
Great for the art approach!.......2005-03-02
I purchased this book and found it to be very helpful and inspiring. It truly gives the artistic approach to designing jewelry. There are no step-by-step instructs, it's not that sort of book. Instead, it really opens up your mind to get you thinking of your OWN steps to the creation of your OWN ideas. It covers essential design tools; stages of the design process; elements of design, and creative concepts and is all wrapped up in a beautiful presentation! For someone completely naive to art in jewelry design, pay attention to what it is teaching because it contains valid points. To someone coming in from a point already understanding jewelry, it is a book still worth having because it will make you stretch your creative process and you just may find yourself creating something unique, fresh and new!
Book Description
The process of designing jewelry has never before been explored in a book. It has taken the combined talents of three top jewelry designers, including a profess who teaches the skill to jewelry students, to create this beautiful and practical step-by-step format. Starting with a fully illustrated discussion of design principles and metal and stone rendering techniques, this volume then presents progressive detailed sketches and finished drawings of many varieties of ring and earring designs. From such drawings the manufacturing jeweler can assemble the objects themselves. This book teaches one how to create those drawings. "It is a book that I have searched for, in vain, for many years. It is both the first and undoubtedly the best, and will remain the best for many years. This book is destined to become the bible of the designer, the guide of the artisan, and the companion of the jewelry lover." Samuel Beizer, Chairman, Jewelry Design, Fashion Institute of Technology, New York.
Customer Reviews:
Great for Artists, not so great for jewelers.......2004-09-16
The good: This book has absolutely drop dead gorgeous illustrations of fine jewelry created using precious metals and precious stones.
The bad: The book is targeted primarily to those who have excellent drafting or drawing skills, with very little to no instruction provided in developing the skills needed to execute the concepts in the book.
The "artistic values" are presented as matter of fact axioms, with no support or explanation. In other words, this is not a "how to do it" book at all. It's a lovely presentation of jewelry design illustration, but there is no teaching here, and no hints on how the illustrations might be actually rendered in metal and stone.
Nice "idea book" for manufacturing fine jewelers who render metal from drawings, but of little to no value for small scale artist jewelers with no drawing skills who render pieces via improvisitory skills and spontaneous arrangement of physical objects.

Customer Reviews:
Fascinating.......2007-10-10
This book is fascinating. It is a very complete study of the influence of europen culture, art and crafts on the Maharajas of India, encompassing all forms of consumer goods... cars, jewels, trains, etc, etc. All these works of art are the result of intense cultural and economic exchange between both worlds and the book emphasizes this very well. A scholarly publication well served by wonderful photographs.
"Made For Maharajas" is especially recommended for academic library collections.......2006-12-09
Dr. Amin Jaffer is a curator in the Asian Department of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London where he specializes in Indian art and culture during the era of European influence during the British Raj period (1857-1947). With "Made For Maharajas: A Design Diary Of Princely India", Dr. Amin has compiled with narrative commentary an impressive historical overview of art and luxury goods in all manner of media and associated with the aristocracy of the maharajas during these centuries. Superbly illustrated with 290 images (150 of which are in full color), the representative and custom-made artifacts range from private airplanes and luxury cars, to chandeliers, gold dinnerware, couture fashions, fine leather goods, houses, furniture, jewelry, and more. Dr. Amin drew upon the archives of firms that included Louis Vuitton, Boucheron, Chaumet, Cartier, and Hermies, he had access to palace and private collections, and employing his own extensive expertise, has written a text that is as entertaining as it is informative in revealing the extraordinarily varied works commissioned by princes whose personal wealth was exceeded only by their eccentricities. As an impeccable work of scholarship in a coffee-table art book format, "Made For Maharajas" is especially recommended for academic library collections and would make a superb choice as a community library Memorial Fund acquisition.

I can't wait for string Style 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10.................................2007-08-09
I love this book this is my second String style book and it does not seem to disappoint. For each project, it provides concise perfectly photographed projects. I have bought other books that do not provide the purchasing information for the projects; this book provides that information and more. If you have purchased jewelry books before and you are unsure, whether this would be a good book or not set, your worries aside and you will enjoy this book for years to come.
Total disappointment.......2007-06-21
I purchased this book because I am a jewelry designer and I collect jewelry design books. I was very disappointed when I opened the first page of this book. The book is thin, the pictures were not proffionally done. These so call projects are very basic.
This book is really for a beginner who does not know much about jewelry, or bead jewelry or designing jewelry, but want to play with beads. If you have basic knowledge about jewelry design and bead stringing and want to improve yourself, DO NOT buy this book.
Stringing Style 2 .......2007-06-08
New to beading and stringing I found this book an excellent reference and plenty of patterns that were easy to follow. I plan on ordering Stringing Style 1 and future issues.
