Great story.......2007-10-11
This is great because it has all seven issues right inside and gives great insight to the greatest event in marvel history!
its just the civil war graphic novel.......2007-09-15
only read this if you have not read the civil war series and if you havent it is the coolest comic book crossover. also it has a bunch of explosive scence of heroes fighting heroes
Superb one of teh best storyline ever told!!.......2007-09-09
the plot and of course all those superheros in 1 was great to see! i would say buy this if notin else cuz u will enjoy this piece of comic! hope they make this in2 a cartoon movie or an actual movie... BUY IT!!!!!!!!
Good story, but nothing out of the ordinary.......2007-09-04
Although CIVIL WAR has been a huge success for Marvel (at least, according to the sales report given by Diamond Distribution), I felt that this storyline was not that well executed, in accordance to the potential it may had.
Although it seems like the was between heroes for and against the registration act will impact the Marvel Universe for a long time, I felt that this storyline TRIED TOO HARD to setup just bits and pieces of teasers so people would go and buy other heroes tie-ins into the story, instead of spending that space/time in exploring the consequences of this war, or even the causes in a more detailed way. (For my taste, the origin of the problem was too quickly presented and resolved. Therefore, it lacked impact.)
I have never been a Marvel fan, and probably will never be, because this, in my opinon, happens to ofter in MU stories. (DC does things like these in many ocassions, too, to my disappointment, but I feel to a lesser degree.)
I would rather recommend following the New Avengers title, which is more explorative of causes and consequences into its plotlines.
Good idea, poorly executed.......2007-08-31
The whole concept of "What gives the right to superheroes to make unilateral decisions on who is right or wrong?" is a great one. Why doesn't Spider-man have to become a policeman to fight crime? I can't go arrest the guy who cut me off in traffic even though I know he broke the law.
But this series was 1 issue where they discuss this a little, 5 issues where they fight and play hide and seek. And 1 last issue where they have a final fight that ends because the leader of that side changed his mind. Plus all the ancilliary books that really don't add much to the debate. And every other book in the Marvel universe is changed by this series. Should have been a little more cerebral.

The Dark Tower #2.......2007-09-15
I'm giving the same review to all the comics in this series. It's too bad that King's epoch is so monumental that this comic serialization represents only a miniscule slice but for an abridgement it is excellent and,in my opinion, they've chosen the best segment. The writing is good, the art work alone is worth the purchase of the series. The insightful essays following each segment were enlightening. The down side was the back-slapping, self-gratification-fest that ended each book. If I felt any need to know how talented each of the contributers felt the others in the group were I'd go on the internet and look it up. I'm paying for a book, not an awards dinner. bg
The Dark Tower Comic 2.......2007-04-24
This was such a cool idea, and the artwork is awesome, but I have one problem with it. I kind of feel slighted that these comics are telling the story of the 4th book. I know that the title is Gunslinger Born but I still really want to get more of the story. Maybe it could have discussed what happened between the events of the 4th and the 1st novel. I was hoping there would be more story to the Dark Tower world, and, as a Tower junkie, I was a little let down.
That said, however, the comic book looks awesome and I can't wait to keep reading.

Customer Reviews:
limited in its bio's.......2007-09-19
Though the book is imformative, the bios are very limited. There are no scales to properly determine strength and intelligence. Also there are a lot of typos, leading me to believe that they didn't care much when they created this. If you want a short overview on marvel characters then this book is for you, otherwise don't bother.
Tons of good information!.......2007-08-06
Great book for anyone. Being an avid marvel fan I thought I knew most everything, but I have learned a lot from this book. It is a good buy.
The Marvel Encyclopedia.......2007-06-11
The book is well illustrated and has exhaustive description of each character of Marvel Comic Books.
so many errors!.......2007-06-07
Like any Marvel fan I was very excited about getting my hands on this encyclopedia, only to be sorely disappointed by the amount of errors found within it's pages. Error examples include: page 46, Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, an image of Nightcrawler is found under a listing for Black Tom Cassidy. Page 212 , an image of the Shiar imperial guardsman Nightside is shown under the character listing for Nightshade. Page 171 An image of the Asgardian character Lorelei is shown under the character listing for the Savage Land mutate of the same name. These are few example of the many errors throughout the book.
It's not an encyclopedia.......2007-06-06
There isn't enough information on individual characters. (There are a lot of them, and there are pictures, but the pictures take up some much space that there's none left for details.)
Product Description
"The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed." With those words, millions of readers were introduced to Stephen King's Roland -- an implacable gunslinger in search of the enigmatic Dark Tower, powering his way through a dangerous land filled with ancient technology and deadly magic. Now, in a comic book personally overseen by King himself, Roland's past is revealed! Sumptuously drawn by Jae Lee and Richard Isanove, adapted by long-time Stephen King expert Robin Furth (author of Stephen King's The Dark Tower: A Concordance) and scripted by New York Times Best-seller Peter David, this series delves deep into Roland's origins -- the perfect introduction to this incredibly realized world, while long-time fans will thrill to adventures merely hinted at in the novels. Be there for the very beginning of a modern classic of fantasy literature!

Ka is the wind.......2007-09-09
"The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed."
Those words opened the first book of Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series, and they open the chilling, richly-drawn "Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born." This opening comic introduces a younger, less cynical Roland, and the harrowing tale of how he became a true gunslinger.
It opens with the gunslinger and the man in black, endlessly pursuing and pursued across the desert, and introduces us to their timeless natures.
Then the comic takes us back many years, to when Roland of Gilead was a teenage boy learning how to be a warrior. He and a bunch of other boys are being tutored by Cort, a bondsman who knows all the fighting tricks, and is supposed to teach them to be gunslingers -- or be exiled forever.
But during his training, he accidentally stumbles on his mother Gabrielle, naked in the wizard Marten's bed. Enraged, Roland goes to Cort and challenges him, taking the ultimate risk so he can become a gunslinger... but it's a lethal battle that will take a terrible sacrifice to win.
"Gunslinger Born" is basically adapted from the flashbacks from Stephen King's "Wizard and Glass," so fans of the book will probably already be acquainted with the tragic story of Roland's past. But it's almost as striking in comic form as in book form.
Part of that comes from Jae Lee and Richard Isanove. A lot of adaptations fall flat ("Anita Blake", anyone?), but their detailed artwork gives vibrant life to the story -- sun-dried fields, ruined buildings, ominously darkened chambers, and faces that seem to be riddled with shadows. There are moments of beauty (the last pages) and others of pure ugliness like Roland's fight with Cort.
But artwork alone doesn't make a comic book good. Robin Furth and Peter David recrafted King's prose for this -- the dialogue is spare and understated, while the narration has an ironic, regretful quality, as if Roland himself were telling the readers of his story. It's even peppered with the language of this postapocalyptic world ("... set your watch and warrant on it.")
And we get to see Roland back when he was a brash young teenager, very different from the grizzled gunslinger at the start. He's strong, brave and honorable, but also very young and impatient. And we get to see other characters from his past -- his careworn father, the malignant Marten, his childhood friends, and his junkieish mother.
The first part of the "Gunslinger Born" comic series is a dark, ominous experience, and a haunting look at this classic anti-hero's past.
amazing.......2007-08-28
the artwork in this comic is amazing. I am really impressed and plan to buy all of them for a collection.
Highly satisfying.......2007-08-23
Any fan of the DARK TOWER epic should add these wonderfully written and illustrated comics to their collection. I can't wait for the next release....
Wow.......2007-06-13
I collected comics as a teenager, and ten years later the reason I am back into it is because of this series! I read the Dark Tower books last year and LOVED it. If you haven't read the 7 novel series, do it! Now!
This comic is EXTREMELY well done. It's obvious those involved really care about this story. The artwork is beautiful. While I do appreciate the background and art sketches they give towards the end of each comic, I would definitely enjoy having more pages devoted to the actual story while keeping all the additional material. If you like the Dark Tower and comics, this is something you will love.

Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-25
This is a completely ludicrous story, but, still fun. Turn all the heroes in the Marvel Universe into zombies, and have them go down and track down and eat the few holdouts, survivors, and others, including people like Magneto.
Then, once they have eaten everyone, maybe they can find some other really big otherworldly food sources.
The title itself, is, of course, self-parody.
I love zombies!!!.......2007-09-22
This is one of the best graphic novels I've read in a long time!Robert Kirkman was born to write zombie stories.I dont think this is as good as the walking dead but it still a wonderful read.My only complaint is that I thought this story should've been a little longer.I bet i finished this book in a half an hour tops. The art is pretty solid and stay with the story I have to give marvel credit for not holding back on the gore!
wow.......2007-09-21
This is great stuff. If you liked it, too, you'll love The Zen of Zombie, which just came out. Great illustrations and hilarious text.
good quick read.......2007-09-14
this book being a comic collect, was fast and fun, but i cant help be feel that more of the story from before the time line of this book should have been included... if you like zombie stuff, or super heros, (and who doesnt?) this will be a good read... oh, and the art is great too!!
Zombies + Marvel Guys = Fun.......2007-08-18
Just a bit of silliness really. A must have for zombie lovers and marvel fans.
I can't wait for the rest of the "Zombies" books to come out in hardback.

The destruction of Buffy's hometown, plus covert and powerful slayer "cells" around the world, add up to a new label for the Scoobies: Terrorist threat. Speaking of Sunnydale, the crater formerly known as, has opened to reveal the witch Amy, and boy is she mad.
Season Eight continues as Buffy creator Joss Whedon brings Buffy back to Dark Horse in this direct follow-up to Season Seven of the smash-hit TV series.
Customer Reviews:
And the story continues.......2007-04-22
Warning: Thar be spoilers ahead!
Remember each week those exciting words (which alerted us that we were about to get a new exciting episode of the best show on TV)? "Previously on BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER . . . " The new comic series seems to be doing something along these same lines. On the inside of the outer cover are printed the following:
"This story takes place after the end of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Season Seven.
"The Slayer population of the world has gone from two to nearly two thousand. Almost five hundred are working around the world with Buffy's organization in squads--or "terrorist cells," according to the American military. Buffy, Xander, Dawn, and a passel of Slayers are currently bunked out in a Scottish castle, where the latest mission revealed a strange symbol carved into human bodies.
"Also, Dawn's a giant."
This may be a summary that is rewritten each month to reflect what has happened in the previous issues.
The first episode in Season Eight established the situation; this one begins moving the story forward. The U.S. military (or rather, a military leader who has on his chest the strange symbol referred to in the monthly summary) has authorized Amy the witch and her army of zombies to go after Buffy and her cohorts. After the story begins with three very different approaches to training the new slayers by first Giles, then Buffy, and finally Andrew (who actually couldn't be said to be training them at all) we find Xander explaining why Dawn took the form of a giant when it was possible she could have assumed other forms instead (obviously, she is trying to get her sister's attention in the most blatant manner possible). The catch is, does Xander really tell any of this to Buffy or is it all just part of what we later learn is a spell-induced sleep in which she experiences an unbroken nightmare. And in a fairy-tale twist she can only be awakened by the kiss of true love. We can, of course, imagine a line of possible candidates for that: Angel and Spike fighting to be first in line. Well, of course Buffy will be awakened, and sooner rather than later. Can't imagine her being asleep at the end of the next episode. The tricky part is how one defines "true love." That needn't mean romantic love. My gut tells me that the kiss won't come from any of the usual suspects. My money is on Dawn. Yeah, I know. No one likes Dawn. But the brute fact is that except for struggling to save her in Season Five, Buffy has been a truly awful sister. Not in a Cinderella step sisterly way, but in the completely neglectful, can't-spare-her-a-minute way. But early in Season Six, Dawn seemed to miss her more than anyone. Like I said, my money is on Dawn.
The issues ends with Buffy asleep, the castle under assault by hundreds of zombies they can't keep at bay, Amy gloating that she could handle slayers with ease, so there was no one there who could take her on. The final frame is of someone who says that they would "like to test that theory." And thus Willow makes her first appearance in the story.
I am going to say something that I don't think I can say often enough. I don't want Joss Whedon writing comics. I want him creating new television shows. I suspect he enjoys the control that a comic gives him. I am sure he is tired of battling studios and networks. I can understand that. But once the battles have been waged and the BS has been waded through, Joss Whedon has been able to create some of the most extraordinary, most timeless television that has ever been made. He needs to get back to it. That being said, I am so much happier with him doing BUFFY Season Eight than either his X-Men project or the Runaways (and mind you, I like both the X-Men and the Runaways). There are others who can tell further stories about the X-Men and the Runaways, but Joss Whedon is only one who can give us authoritative Buffy stories. So I am acquiring these with joy and my heart and impatience in my soul. But I want him back in television. We've had some great TV since BUFFY and ANGEL left the air. LOST, 24, VERONICA MARS, and especially BATTLESTAR GALACTICA have filled the huge gap BUFFY left at its departure. But LOST needs to start winding down (whether it will has to be seen), BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (the only show to completely match the brilliance that was BUFFY) has possibly only one more season left and at most two before Ron Moore brings his series to an end. 24 is definitely in decline. VERONICA MARS might be cancelled. In short, JOSS! WE NEED YOU TO COME BACK TO TELEVISION! But in the meantime, I'll wolf down every one of these issues.
Episode Two: Attack of the Rat.......2007-04-05
Buffy fans will be expecting a lot after seven stellar seasons on television and the success of the first issue of "Season Eight." So the question here is this: Does Issue #2 deliver?
In short, yes. I have to say though--there is so much going on, so many jokes, and so much foreshadowing that I wasn't able to completely enjoy the Jossy goodness until my second read. The first read intrigued me, but the second wow-ed me.
The plot continues directly from the previous issue. Amy (the former rat) is working with the government to take out Buffy and the slayers, and she has an army of zombies to back her up. The ending sequences are amazing--I'm already itching for May 2nd to come so I can get my hands on the third issue. There was a big revelation about half-way through the comic, and clues to who the Big Bad of the season will be as well. Giant Dawn is great, Buffy is true to herself, and Xander is playing the biggest role he's played since the first season.
This issue also re-introduces two fan favorites: Giles and Andrew. So, all in all, this issue is just as good as the first. But did anybody expect anything less? I mean, come on--Joss Whedon wrote it.

How bridges, highways, tunnels and others were built.......1997-12-01
This National Geographic book does a great job of explaining in some detail how bridges, roads, tunnels, aquaducts and others were built. It focuses on the 19th and 20th centuries and has many pictures and illustrations. I liked it as much as our 13-year-old son did.

don't miss this.......2007-10-08
Better then anything else Marvel is putting out these days. As good as anything from DC. Worth the hardcover
Good Graphic Novel.......2007-10-01
Good series. If you bought his for the Silver Surfer like I did, you may be a little dissappointed like I was, but I actually enjoyed the story line and have all 3 books.
Annihilation of the Marvel Cosmos.......2007-07-08
If you grew up reading comics in the late 80's to mid 90's, chances are you read the annual Marvel Crossover events that all started with Infinity something-something. While The Infinity Gauntlet in memory was great it can not compare to the intricate and amazingly well planned Annihilation event of this decade. If you love characters like NOVA, THANOS, SILVER SURER,and all things in the Marvel cosmic universe this is a must read. While this crossover event was eclipised by the CIVIL WAR saga, the ramifications of what happens to the Marvel Universe after Annihilation are far greater than what happens on Earth in Civil War. Do yourself a favor and check this out!
A fantastic comic event that deserves a closer look.......2007-06-09
Yes, everybody and their dog knows about Marvel's "Civil War" event. But at the same time, this event was going on, and for those, like myself, absolutely sick of all the crossovers, tie-ins, and blatant marketing stunts, Marvel's "Annihilation" is an absolute godsent. While it was completely overshadowed by "Civil War", it is much larger in scale, the key difference being that it centers around characters that, like the series itself, are overlooked and underappreciated. After all, everyone knows Captain America and Spider-man, but there are far less people who know who Drax the Destroyer is, or Ronan the Accuser, or even Nova. But it's because we don't really know who these people are that they surprise us with who they are, what they can do, and what they're up against. This first volume flounders a bit at the beginning (mainly due to some very hard-to-read fonts), but eventually sets the stage for the cosmic scale battle to come. Nova, in particular, really launches himself off as a power player in the scheme of things, and he's a far cry from the dopey "Kid Nova: The Human Rocket" member of New Warriors. The art is generally well done across the collection, with Nova's series perhaps being a tad underwhelming, but it all gets the job done. In the end, this is an excellent event from Marvel that really shook up some power players and proved to be a great alternative to the convoluted mess that was "Civil War".
the worst of the 3 collected annihlation books, but still awesome..........2007-05-20
the drax collection is a little blah, serves to introduce new drax and cammi.
the annihilation prologue is pretty good, and starts off annihilation proper.
the nova collection also wasn't that interesting to me, because i don't really care for nova and the green lantern rip-off (which are lensman rip-offs) nova corps.
this review might sound negative, and it's not meant to be because annihilation is the best comic series that's been released in quite some time. it was out the same time as civil war (which isn't very good) and was overlooked but annihilation is where it's at.

Written by STAN LEE & STEVE DITKO Penciled by STEVE DITKO with JACK KIRBY Cover by JACK KIRBY & STEVE DITKO Variant Painted Cover by ALEX ROSS In 1962, in the pages of a comic book slated for cancellation, Stan Lee and Steve Ditko gave birth to one of the most-enduring icons in American popular media: the one and only Amazing Spider-Man! Turning the concept of a super hero on its head, they imbued the young, guilt-ridden Peter Parker with the fantastic powers of an arachnid and the fantastic pressures of an everyday teenager. The combination was pure magic. During the course of 40 issues of web-slinging, wisecracking wonderment Lee and Ditko built the foundation for 45 years of Spidey spectaculars - girl trouble; bill trouble; bully trouble; the Daily Bugle; and a cast friends, family and, of course, super-villains unlike any other! Completing the entire Stan Lee/Steve Ditko Spider-Man run in one massive volume -including every page, every pinup and every letters column. Not to mention unused covers, critical essays and bonuses galore! We went back to the Mighty Marvel Archive to restore each and every page in this volume for painstaking accuracy to the originals. There's no kidding - this collector's edition is the guaranteed be-all, end-all book for the Spider-Man fan! Bowed Lower Legs.......2007-09-10
Steve Ditko's art work was an acqired taste for me. His old people all looked Asian, his girl's were too thin, and his adversarial figures had
bowed lower legs. That said, he was more adventurous than King Kirby, es-pecially when he tackled Dr. Strange. Ditko was perfect for that strip,
but his breakthrough was the early Spider-Man, and for that, I will always be grateful. Get this one, if you're young. Compare it to the
masturbatory, nihilistic issues of today, and come to your own conclusions, if you can.
AMAZING! SPECTACULAR! SENSATIONAL!.......2007-08-28
Simply put... If I was stranded on a desert island and I could have only one book... this would be it. Quite possibly the greatest run in comics history. These are not only the best Spider-Man stories ever, they're some of the best comic stories... PERIOD. Stan Lee's writing is fun and upbeat with a great sense of comic timing and adventure. Steve Ditko's pencils are tight and bursting with kinetic energy. (Definitely the best work of his career). Even though I have all of the original issues, as well as the Marvel Masterworks collections of these stories, I still bought this book. It is loaded with extra goodies, like all of the letters columns and some early guest appearances of Spider-Man in other comics, such as, his first team-up with the Human Torch in Strange Tales Annual #2. However, it's the attention to detail that really makes this collection shine. The publishers even went to the trouble of exactly matching the colors to the original comics (i.e. in the first few issues the blue in Spider-Man's costume looks purple, just like it did in the original printings). It may sound cliche, but the bottom line is, if you are a Spider-Man fan or just a comics fan in general, this book is a MUST HAVE!
Spiderman fans get this book.......2007-08-14
Marvel did a good job on creating this book. If you are a spiderman fan get this book, you will not be disappointed.
A must for all spidey fans!.......2007-07-24
I bought this with trepidation. All I can say as I hold the book in my hand is that the production is very good, coloring is excellent, bind quality is good - we need to see if it will last a few years. I wish they bring to print- Captain America from issue one to the current; Daredevil and Iron man from the first issue to the current. Last but not the least I wishy they bring out extinct super heroes- The Web, Steel Sterling Man of Steel, The Hangman, The black hood, The Phantom and Mandrake in such volumes too.
magnificent!.......2007-07-17
a pop-art masterpiece. i like spiderman: the only superhero who got superproblems. spiderman's first years are the best.
