    Book Description

Utilizing technology to enrich the learning experience, S.K. Jain and A.D. Gunawardena provide an exciting introduction to linear algebra. The accompanying CD-ROM contains the entire contents of the book in a searchable format. The CD-ROM also includes MATLAB drills, concept demonstrations, solutions, projects, and chapter tests. In addition to the CD-ROM, the Web site contains additional problems, projects, and applications, as well as support for MAPLE and Mathematica. In the book, the authors introduce matrices as a handy tool for solving systems of linear equations and then demonstrate that their utility goes far beyond this initial application. Students discover that hardly any area of modern mathematics exists where matrices do not have some application. Offering flexibility in the approach, this book can be used in a traditional course without technology or in a course using technology.

    Book Description

A uniquely relaxing yet energizing way to achieve balance and healing.

Traditional Thai massage is a dynamic yet comparatively little-known form of bodywork that combines elements of acupressure, stretching, reflexology, the application of herbal compresses, prayer, and meditation. This therapy has benefits for anyone-young or old, active or inactive, healthy or not. Sometimes called "lazy man's yoga," it stretches the muscles, increases the joints' range of motion, and balances the flow of energy throughout the body to promote healing and well-being.

Thai Massage provides fully illustrated, step-by-step instructions that enable the reader to use this integrative and interactive therapy (with a partner) at home. It also explains the history and philosophy behind the techniques and discusses their connections with Buddhist thought and practice, yoga, Ayurveda, the body's energy lines, and acupressure. It is a complete guide to an ancient practice that benefits body, mind, and spirit.

5 out of 5 stars A tremendous contribution to Thai Massage.......2006-10-25

This is a must have for every practitioner of Thai Massage. Ananda is a gifted master of Thai Massage and has done a great service sharing her vast knowledge of this healing art. The photographs showing the wide variety of moves unique to this modality are easy to understand. The accompanying text is well written with precise descriptions of the techniques, the anatomy and how it is affected, and valuable information about the Sen lines I have not found elsewhere. It is meticulous. I love this book and often use it for reference. Along with Asokananda's books, this is the best Thai Massage book available.

5 out of 5 stars learning thai yoga massage.......2005-04-30

Before I began my journey with Thai Yoga massage I looked at a number of books on the market. When I found this book I knew it was the right one for me. The text is easy to read and understand and the illustrations are clear. Miss. Apfelbaum is someone who is able to articulate a bodywork treatment that is complex, beautiful and above all healing. I would advise anyone who wishes to learn Thai Yoga massage to use this book as a tool. She also has a website, a video (that is great for when practicing at home) and does workshops.

5 out of 5 stars The best Thai massage book on the market!.......2005-04-16

With Thai Massage, Ananda Apfelbaum has made an important contribution by capturing this sacred healing art with clarity and precision. It presents a comprehensive overview followed by a clearly illustrated, complete, full-body Thai sequence. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in experiencing
the tremendous benefits and joy of this ancient practice.

    5 out of 5 stars Excellent workbook.......2005-04-07

Ananda's description of Sacred Bodywork is beautifully illustrated, explained and documented. She has captured the essence of this art and science.I can attest to this as I was with her in Thailand one of the many years that she studied with Pichest Boonhumme. She gathers in this book her years of studying, practicing and teaching Thai Yoga Massage. She combines her deep spiritual awareness with a detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology in a way that elucidates the therapeutic value of her craft. Its usefulness is enhanced when used with the video tapes although one could learn without the visual aide. I do use this book in my own teaching and practice and am appreciative of its authentic, detailed methodology.I highly recommend it.

    5 out of 5 stars Great Book!!!.......2005-04-07

This book is clear, comprehensive, easy to follow with good photos. A good learning tool.

The Dhammapada is often considered the most representative example of the Buddha's teachings. A key to the fundamentals of early Buddhist philosophy, it has been translated into more languages than any other Buddhist text.

    5 out of 5 stars The Dhammapada.......2005-08-19

This translation of The Buddha's words is a must for any student of Buddhism.

5 out of 5 stars Definitely one for the collection!.......2002-12-27

I have been reading several translations of the Dhammapada recently and came across this one and found it offers some things that the others do not.

Since the original written form of the Dhammapada is in Pali, others have needed to take the time to translate it for us in the West. As in any translation, there are many words that offer multiple meanings. One person may interpret `dhukka' as `suffering', another may choose `stress', and yet another may decide `unsatisfactoriness'. As you can see, each can then be interpreted in our mind as one thing or another. By having several translations available I have been able to derive a deeper understanding.

To begin with, the size makes this translation ideal for carrying in a shirt pocket or for having on hand in the car for a little Dhamma between red lights. Another feature I enjoy is this translation is from a monk. The editor is a layperson however, after her edits she spoke with the monk and explained why she made certain changes, (to make specific words more accessible to us in the West) and he agreed with the new updates. The monastic community obviously spends more time than most laypersons studying the Pali Canon so their translations, I have found, tend to be quite meaningful. Overall, the translations offered here are meaningful and poetic.

Drawbacks? The introduction is a little shorter than other offerings and there are only a limited amount of notes. There is an interesting background to how the Dhammapada fits within the Pali Canon and the use of notes is helpful in understanding certain meanings, etc. Since the size would have been affected I'm sure this may have been one of the reasons they were not included. Again, by reading several translations you will be rewarded.

In addition to this translation I have found Cleary's translation helpful, however the notes and his comments were not. (see my review of his translation) I have also found Thanissaro Bhikkhu's translation very helpful, although it is offered as dana and as such is not available for sale. Recently I obtained S. Radhakrishnan's translation, which offers the original Pali text along with his translation, but I have not yet been able to thoroughly read through it to offer any meaningful review.

Whether you have read other versions, or if this is your very first exposure to the Dhammapada, I think you will be pleased with this translation.

5 out of 5 stars Clear, Concise, Lovingly Translated.......2002-01-16

This recent translation of this core text of Buddhism is wonderfully clear and concise. The translation seems both careful and modern. The translators avoid the common pitfall of attempting a "scriptural" diction or tone. I was very impressed with the clarity of this slender volume. Buy it. Read it. You won't be able to stop. It is THAT good.

5 out of 5 stars The Dhammapada by Ananda Maitreya, Rose Kramer.......2001-12-21

The best, unquestionably, as compared to the Ram Dass and John Ross Carter versions. The impact of original translation without fancy revision is as important as each drop which fills our cup. This is the one translation that uses word for word and that's what makes it the best. Perhaps I should be compensated for this review, ha, ha. Truly, this is the one to read if there's any question. And if a reader thinks this version is dry, it's because he is not yet at the level to understand truth and should stick to fiction. I can't emphasize the importance of original translation as without, the result is loss in important teachings, however subtle. What could be worse than a half truth?

      Book Description

Sometimes it can be difficult for even the closest of partners to fully express their love during sex. We may resist deeper intimacy for many reasons, among them pain, insecurity, or simply a fear of sharing our most natural desire for physical love with another person. Tantra can help you dissolve these barriers to intimacy, and invites you to awaken the physical and spiritual energy that can bring partners together as loving soul mates.

Tantric Love unlocks the secret powers of meditation, breathing, massage, and more to help you celebrate and revitalize your love life. Each chapter focuses on one of the chakras -- or energy centers -- in the body and offers simple exercises that will help you share this energy and open the door to ecstasy.

As you move from one stage to the next, you'll find that you're not only connecting with your lover on a physical level but on a deep spiritual level, too -- one that prepares you for a loving, lasting commitment to each other.

      Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Right on, man!.......2004-12-23

Some folks, those of the "more asian than thou" clan, have said that this book (in a nutshell) isn't "authentic" enough. This basically means that the book is too lucid and simple! These folks only put thier "seal of approval" on texts which make heavy use of Sanskrit, Tibetan, and Chinese terms, and delineate practices only through the spectrum of 5,000 year old Sutras. This is unfortunate, because this book is an excellent introduction to Tantra and the spiritual dimension of lovemaking.

I recommend this book for those of you who might be at an impasse with your spouse or might otherwise be struggling with your spirituality. Those who are "hung up" about sex might also find liberation in the book. My advice is to BUYU it, and make up your own mind.

      For consenting adults only!

3 out of 5 stars Terminology of eastern spritiual mysticism -- does it help?.......2004-12-16

One of the problems with well-meaning authors and reviewers alike who fill their thoughts with eastern spiritual terminology is that these concepts are necessarily personal and are, as a result, vague to meaningless when written to the general public. The authors speak as though it were obvious to everyone what is meant by such phrases as "White Sexual Magic", "the secret golden thread" (if it's a secret, how are they talking about it as though everyone knew the contents of that "secret"?), "Kundalini energy", etc... The end result is that it appears these authors want us to learn a whole different way of looking at the world, new concepts, and embrace a new terminology before we can even begin to understand how to engage in fantastic love-making. Rather than truly enlightening people, the insistence on using vague terms and encasing the whole thing in eastern mystical spirituality does more to confuse people and make the whole thing generally impractical.
Yes, love-making is so much more than the sexual act, but it doesn't help to start off by telling everyone how they've been led astray by western values and how the "eastern sages" really know best.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Choice for Begginers.......2002-10-01

As an avid Tantra reader and follower of Eastern philosophies I was delightfully surprised by the quality of the illustrations, pictures and approach to Tantra in this book. It is a must have for anyone remotely interested in this fantastic Art.

5 out of 5 stars Tantra for everybody!.......2002-03-25

Excellent book, it's very clear and helpful. It's not only a book about sex, it's about life and its connection with the universe. If you like Tantra you should buy this book, you'll like it.

5 out of 5 stars Reader from Whistler Canada.......2002-02-21

This book has much hidden depth and we found profound meditations.

We are a couple who married for the "wrong" reasons after knowing each other 3 weeks and now 4 years later have a son and a respectful and loving relationship. Tantra and recently this book have allowed love and a deep connection between us to flourish.

We are proof that soul mates can come about by concious exercises such as the ones in this wonderful book and not through the flimsy and romantic belief that there is "one" special person out there...
