Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description
At 592 pages, Blankets may well be the single largest graphic novel ever published without being serialized first. Wrapped in the landscape of a blustery Wisconsin winter, Blankets explores the sibling rivalry of two brothers growing up in the isolated country, and the budding romance of two coming-of-age lovers. A tale of security and discovery, of playfulness and tragedy, of a fall from grace and the origins of faith. A profound and utterly beautiful work from Craig Thompson. The New Printing corrects 3 small typos, widening the spine graphics, but otherwise is identical to the first printing.

Blankets.......2007-10-09
Very nice story, haven't finished reading it all the way yet, but I like how soft the art is.
A comic book--sorry, "graphic novel"--for people with low expectations.......2007-09-04
That Blankets is an "illustrated novel" read mostly by people who never read comics says a lot about why it is so revered. It garnered recognition for its use of serious subject matter in what is generally perceived as a children's medium. Its popularity puts it in the hands of librarians whose conception of comics is fantasy superhero books for kids, so of course they think: how clever to use an unlikely and underappreciated medium like comics to a tell a coming-of-age story.
But Blankets' coming-of-age story is trite and overreaching, not to mention painfully earnest. It strives to speak for a generation of losers and loners by being as bland and overly earnest as possible. The type of reader who loves this is also the type of reader wont to call it "achingly beautiful."
Look, I grew up a wimp in the Midwest, too. But I don't need to read yet another self-indulgent auto-bio comic about it just to validate my existence. EVERYONE has loved and lost, and stories about love can be sharp and powerful. But Craig Thompson offers only cliched sentimentality and manipulative heartstring-tugging, not one original insight on adolescence or lost love.
Why not read some Daniel Clowes, a much sharper observer of adolescent angst (and I'm not just talking about Ghost World)? Or try Peter Bagge, whose Hate comics start off as a goofy case study of nineties suspended adolescence slackers then evolves into a terrifically insightful depiction of truly growing up. Or Lynda Barry's many illuminating examinations of childhood. And then why not wash the earnestness out of your mouth with Johnny Ryan's gloriously nihilistic Angry Youth Comix?
Must own!.......2007-08-08
An amazing book, great illustrations. Read it within 2 days because I couldn't put it down! My boyfriend never used to like reading all that much, but I bought this book for him knowing he loves comics/video games/anime, and he loved it...couldn't put it down, Now I've got him reading novels! Definitely recommend owning this.
Absolute brilliance.......2007-06-11
Even though the book weighs in at a hefty 600 pages, I blew through this amazing graphic novel in two days
It seriously has rocketed to probably my top 3 books I have ever read. Thompson did something with the book that's almost magical.
Maybe it's just because the book really resonated with me. Outside of some of the details, Craig could have been me. I live in the midwest, and while my parents aren't as hard-core Christian as his parents were, there was still always that little bit of pressure to just fall into the faith, and I know plenty of families that are like the one portrayed in the book.
The book really just made me miss everything about my childhood. I miss just having fun with my brother before he branched out and became his own person. I also miss those incredibly powerful feelings of first love, and while I didn't have an experience like he did with Raina, I can absolutely relate with how the character felt.
Thompson did such a great job with everything, especially the characters. I honestly felt that Raina is one of the most beautiful comic book characters I've ever seen. I know that sounds weird, but it's how I feel. Whenever she wasn't on the page, I wanted her to be on the page. It's an absolute feat that Thompson has achieved by putting so much emotion and beauty into characters with such a spare drawing style. How exactly he's able to capture every single subtle emotion with four or five lines, I'll never know.
The art is also beautifully complementary to Thompson's restrained writing style. He has the ability to go from the sharp, angular forms of the world surrounding him into the wispy curves of Raina's world. There are also lots of little details that might not add much to the story, but they are beautiful little surprises. For example, when one character is sliding along the ice of a lake, Thompson has simply written the word "slide" underneath the character's foot in flourished letters. It somehow absolutely captures the scene
OK, so I'm rambling...pardon me
If you haven't read it, go do it. Even though it's 600 pages, you'll be upset when it ends because you want it to be 1200 or 6000 pages, seriously
A deeply personal story that should resonate with us all.......2007-06-02
How much of it is true? Who knows?Who cares? Well, one person, perhaps two... and their parents.. possibly the people they grew up to marry.
Read this and think about the Raina in your life. How lovely it is to be someone's Raina. If you calculate the hours, it's not so very many, but how precious that handful is...
I was very moved by the reverent way the beloved is depicted. The frame where the two soon-to-be young lovers each tuck their long hair behind their ears is unspeakably lovely.
The abruptness of their parting is lovely too... or will seem so to readers who've passed a certaon shelf life into a grey area of bitterseetness, appreciaton and regret.
The drawing board hours alone are testament to the power of young love, the kind that is rarely destined to survive these days.
Lovely beyond compare.

For experienced only!.......2007-10-16
This book has very good patterns. The only problem is that it has several mistakes. If you are experienced you will have no problem making the corrections. However, I would not recommend this to someone new to crochet.

I enjoyed purchasing this book especially where it allows you to actually look through the book before purchasing - so when I received the book, it was exactly what I wanted
200 Ripple Stitch Patterns.......2007-08-12
This book has an interesting way of presenting both crochet and knit patterns. With this system you can make any size you desire in your project.
Crochet preference for myselff.......2007-06-19
I saw a Granny ripple on an online blog, referencing the title, 200 Ripple Stitch Patterns. I was intrigued and ordered the book. I am not new to crochet, but I am somewhat advanced-newish to ripples and I find the ripple afghans charming. I love to match and compliment colors to my quilts and this gives me a nice reference to use for complimentary "ripples" too. I am more into crochet, but the knit pictures are nice too! I have more than one or two favorites, so the price was worth it to me to see these charmers on a bed or sofa! For those who love to ripple, I think this is inspiration waiting to happen.
Nice collection.......2007-06-07
This is a beautiful book, but I too was upset to discover that there are no where near 200 different patterns. The same pattern is counted as 2, sometimes 3 different ones when yarns are switched out or used in a different sequence. While this produces a slightly different look, the PATTERN remains the same. I have only tried a handful of the patterns, and so far have not encountered errata.

The clinical name is transitional object, but for young children, a beloved blanket is more like a lifeline. And that's exactly how Owen feels about his baby blanket, fondly named Fuzzy. The Owen-Fuzzy relationship is cruising along smoothly until a nosy neighbor, Mrs. Tweezers, leans over the fence and asks his parents, "Isn't he getting a little old to be carrying that thing around?" With kindergarten just around the corner, Owen's parents wonder if he should in fact relinquish his prized Fuzzy. Kevin Henkes uses his signature mouse characters and jewel-tone watercolors to explore the antics and foils of one mouse-boy, one rag-blanket, and two parents wondering how to help their son kick the habit. This is what Henkes does best--playfully bringing childhood fears and feelings to the surface while portraying real-life parent-child tensions. Mrs. Tweezers, a real sourpuss, is no help at all. She offers terrible over-the-fence advice, such as dipping Fuzzy in vinegar (as if to cure a nail-biting habit) or stealing the blanket in the night.
It is not until the eve of Owen's first day of kindergarten that his mother hatches the perfect solution. Ultimately, she finds a way that Owen can hang on to his first true love while also taking the next step into middle childhood--a solution that suits everyone, including Mrs. Tweezers. Caldecott Honor Book, Horn Book Fanfare Honor List, ALA Notable Book, Boston Globe/Horn Book Honor Book, School Library Journal Best Book of the Year, ALA Booklist Children's Editors' Choice. (Ages 3 and older) --Gail Hudson
Book Description
Owen had a fuzzy yellow blanket. "Fuzzy goes where I go," said Owen. But Mrs. Tweezers disagreed. She thought Owen was too old for a blanket. Owen disagreed. No matter what Mrs. Tweezers came up with, Blanket Fairies or vinegar, Owen had the answer. But when school started, Owen't mother knew just what to do, and everyone -- Owen, Fuzzy, and even Mrs. Tweezers -- was happy.

Owen.......2007-05-08
I read Owen. I would recommend this book. The reason I would recommend it is because it was funny and it made me crack me up. In the book Owen, Owen and Fuzzy were playing captain plunger. They looked silly. This helped me convince me that it was a grate book.
The Kids Asked that I reread this to them repeatedly.......2006-08-06
The book seemed so basic that I didn't think it would be important, but the message was positive and our 3.5 and 5.5 year olds really connected with it. Definitely one of the better books that we have gotten them.
Teacher's Review.......2006-05-17
This is a review/evaluation of the book as part of an in depth study on children's picture books. I am a third grade teacher and I use this book in my classroom because no kid is ever too old to read a great story like this. I truly think it is a classic!
Evaluation: In addition to the wonderful illustrations, this Caldecott Honor book is also a heart warming story that is very appropriate for young readers. The illustrations and the story are very appealing to children and allows readers to easily identify with the main character and the situation he is in. The illustrations add to the meaning of the text because they emphasis the personality of the characters. They highlight Owen's playfulness and the love that he has for his blanket. They also add to the worries of the adults in the story because their concern shows in the illustrations. The illustrations also extend the text because they are so clear that a student could understand the story without actually reading the text and rely only on the clues from the illustrations. The background settings are also nicely illustrated and accurately detailed because it is easy to compare and contrast when they are in places in their house that is shared by all of the family members and when they are in Owen's room and his play area in the background. Henkes also adds specific details to the setting that compliment the fact that the main characters are mice. This is reflected in the art work they have in their house and the statues they have outside. The illustrations are done with watercolor paints and black pen for the full-color art. This compliments the mood of the book because the illustrations are very colorful and vibrant. Henkes varies the size and number of illustrations on each page to compliment the plot and to reflect the sequence of events that take place. Each illustration is within black outlined boxes that make it easy to follow the progression of the story. The jacket and cover design expresses the theme and spirit of the book without giving away too much detail. The cover design gives some questions as to why a lady may be looking for the small boy and will spark children's curiosity making them want to read the book. The bright yellow and bold title stands out against a bright blue background. This book is very similar to Kevin Henkes other mouse books. All of his characters face some type of childhood problem that teaches them about growing up. His books are easily recognized by children because the title always contains the name of the main character. Readers also become familiar with the characters because they are in several of his books, even if it is only a picture of them with no reference in the story. The illustrations are all very similar in that they are fun and engaging and add to the story. Henkes commonly includes text in the illustrations that may be a character's thoughts or something they are actually saying. The added text is often more humorous than the story itself. Since Henkes is both the author and illustrator of his books, he has the liberty of making his text and illustrations become one and perfectly balance each other. This book is appropriate for the preschool level, but older children will also enjoy it, especially if they had a blanket or other comfort item that they adored in their childhood. Parents will also like the book if they are trying to teach their child the same lesson. This book is a very nice read aloud and should be part of classroom libraries. It should be on a booklist as a must read for students who are about to start kindergarten.

A sweet and thoughtful story.......2006-03-09
"Owen" is a sweet and thoughtful story on par with all of Kevin Henkes other children's books. Whether you're a teacher looking for a story that students can relate to, a parent searching for a meaninful read for your child, or if you are just in the mood for a story filled with sentiment, you can't go wrong with "Owen."

200 Crochet Blocks for Blankets, Throws, and Afghans: Crochet Squares to Mix and Match .......2007-08-26
This is a great book for many... granny square designs! You'll love it! Many "traditional" designs and lot of more "modern" looking grannies! It's a have to have for your crochet library!
Helpful survey of crochet blocks.......2007-08-22
As noted, there are not 200 unique crochet blocks. That being said, there is a wide assortment of styles, including a variety of flower shaped blocks that have become popular recently, inspired by Japanese crochet books. The book would have been improved if it included diagrams, but most American books seem to use text exclusively. Also, it's worth noting that all of the blocks in the book are square.
There are some nice suggestions for how to mix and match the pattern to make afghans, but I think the book is useful as a reference for creating different blocks, which could be used more dynamically than the author actually suggests -- she is basically confined to the blanket genre where they could be used for any number of other applications such as scarves or bags.
Nice, inspiring book!.......2007-08-02
I'm really glad I ordered this book. It's very inspiring and has lots of lovely squares to mix and play around! It also gives axamples of the same squares made with different colors. What I most like about it is that it doesn't bring "closed projects", but encourages you to create your own - choosing colors and squares combinations.
It just didn't receive 5 stars because there are no diagrams and I prefer following diagrams instead of written instructions...
Really different.......2007-05-18
I was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful some of the squares in this book are. As a novice, the patterns seem easy to follow. The sheer number of squares and the fact that most of them are really different from what you see elsewhere, makes me very glad I came across this book.
I think I found a mistake if anyone can confirm: square 92 Victorian Lace. Round 1 begins with CH4 and then DC into the ring, but the rest of the stitches into the ring are TR. I think the first DC is supposed to be a TR.
Good for ideas.......2007-05-08
So it's not quite 200 bcse some blocks are repeated with different color patterns, but it's excellent for generating ideas and inspiring pattern creation!

Personal Classes same as reading book!.......2007-05-06
i was lucky to have had the opportunity to take a full day classes with
this author. She is just the best! Fortunately for those who cannot attend a live class--this book will help to learn the same techniques Harriet teaches. The directions are very clear and extensive. Harriet is well known and respected in the quilting world. You cannot go wrong with this book.
Worth reading........2007-03-27
I took a two-day class by Harriet Hargrave and absolutely loved her. Her books are the next best thing to having her teach you personally. Her photos and descriptions are detailed and helpful. I own both of her books along with two of Diane Gawdowski (a former Hargrave student).

Crochet.......2007-05-07
200 Stitch Patterns for Baby Blankets by Jan Eaton is an easy to read book with crochet and knitting patterns. The patterns are explained well and the closeup pictures are a big help. My only problem with the book is that I only know how to crochet and after seeing all of the neat knitting patterns I am anxious to learn how to knit.
Must have!.......2007-03-08
This book is a must have for anyone who loves to crochet or knit! Easy to follow directions! Not just for babies! Skill levels from beginner to expert. If you love to knit or crochet, you need this book in your craft library!
Ah, baby blankets...sooo sweet!.......2006-11-14
Jan Eaton is a needlecraft and textiles designer who has worked as a freelance designer. She is also the author of numerous needlecraft books.
Winter is coming and life seems to naturally slow down. The hobbies and crafts we may have set aside for the summer are just waiting to be taken out of the closet. Get those crochet and knitting needles out and get ready to make some fast, fun and interesting baby blankets, afghans, shawls and crib covers.
200 Stitch Patterns for Baby Blankets includes helpful tips and techniques for knitting and crocheting, yarns and colors, and great edging patterns. I especially like that the patterns are rated for the level of skill needed to complete a project. It saved me a great deal of frustration and probably an unfinished project. It is also helpful that each pattern tells us (especially beginners) the method of working the project (horizontal rows, worked in rounds, diagonal rows, filet, etc.). The photographs offer additional visual help.
Tuck Eaton's book on the shelf in your craft library. It will be used over and over again. And you will be the author of many beautiful items for personal use and for some lovely gifts.

Book Description
A comically expressive tot pays tribute to the all-important Blankie in a bright, playful board book sure to have instant toddler appeal.
Anyone who's spent time with a toddler knows that few crises compare with the (even temporary) loss of a favorite blankie. Here, in her humorous, bold graphic style, Leslie Patricelli plays up this scenario, surely near and dear to every toddler's heart. BLANKIE is an affectionate ode to that special object that comforts many a child through the dramas of each day.
Customer Reviews:
Super Blankie!.......2007-10-09
My 19 month old loves this book. He laughs when we get to the peek-a-boo and then Super Blankie page. The other day I went into his room after his nap and he was busy playing peek-a-boo with his blankie and giggling. This is book that neither of us grow tired of. The humor is just right for a little one and his parent.
Perfect book for your little blankie-holder.......2007-06-29
My 2.75 year-old daughter has had "Ree" the blankie since she was about 12 weeks-old. This book neatly sums up the joys of having a blankie. We love the artwork, easy-to-read font, clever text, and tender understanding of toddlers. I skipped the page about "watching the same shows over and over" for over a year until, surprise, she started to request the same shows over and over. We've just reached the point where forgetting "Ree" on a trip to the store isn't a major tearfest, but we still love this book.
Is your sweetie more into pacifiers? Try Binky (Leslie Patricelli board books) - a gentle accepting story instead of "say bye-bye to your little friend."
My son's current favorite book........2006-12-05
My two year old son just loves this book. He takes it to bed every night and brings it downstairs again every morning. He loves looking at the pictures and tries to tell the story himself. He also has the author's "Yummy Yucky" book. There is something about the baby in these books that is very appealing to my son. I think part of what he likes is that the pages aren't too "busy" like a lot of other board books sometimes are.
Very good concept, except for one very disturbing part.......2006-11-11
My 2 year old daughter LOVES Yummy Yucky so we were eager to try the other books. There are two parts I always skip when I read this book (borrowed from the library, I won't buy it). They are: "Blankie does everything with me... watches the same shows I do (over and over and over), ... and has time outs." There is a drawing of the baby sitting on steps, clutching blankie while crying his eyes out. That is the part that distrubs me. I think toddlers identify with the baby and the scenarios in this book (which is what makes her series wonderful) but I would never put a toddler/baby in a time out, so I don't want her thinking this could happen to her. I know they are popular (especially on nanny TV shows) but they are outdated. They are used as a punishment more often than not (and not supposed to be). I do not encourage daily TV/DVD watching either, so that's why I skip that part. Reading "Endangered Minds: Why Children Don't Think and What We Can Do About It" by Jane Healy really opened my eyes on this subject. Otherwise, a cute book and her favorite part is "Super Blankie!"
Linus Revisited.......2006-07-30
As a board book, the pictures are necessarily a bit small, but Patricelli keeps them as simple as her brief narrative. The book nicely introduces toddlers (and younger) to a variety of settings, including "my school," "the store," " even to the doctor." These are just some of the places where Blankie accompanies the {unnamed) baby protagonist, a real cutie with bright cheeks and a single curly hair.
Blankie is there for the laughter (TV, playing with kitty. a spirited game of PEEK A BOO , jumping onto the bed--Superman like--with Blankies as a cape!), and the tears (time-outs, bedtime), and a conflict here and there: "We (the baby abd his blankie, that is) don't have to play with anybody else (a little girl is shown crying), but sometimes we do (they're both happy). Blankies is a reassuring friend, something that keeps the baby company (even when brushing his teeth), listens to bedtimes stories, and, very important, "isn't afraid of the dark." I like how accepting the book is of the whole Blankie idea, there's no judgement or undertones of "but when will he outgrow it?" Instead it shows Blankie's importance in regulating emotions and offering the reassuring qualities that the child puts into it. I think most people can attest to the help that a "Blankie" or Blankie-like object gave their young child, and that, sooner or later, the boy or girl eventually is less dependent on it.
BUt for ahile, that security blanket is a very important thing:
"I love Kitty."
I love Bear."
I LOVE birthday cake...
but I love Blankie best of all.
And Blankie loves me!
A book almost as cute and lovingly reassuring as a favorite stuffed animal or BLANKIE. 23 sturdy, board-book pages, with bold illustrations done with acrylic, typeset in the new "Leslie Petrocelli" font (this has a nice, slight childlike look, but the ettering is bold an very legible), with illustrations done in acrylic. Simple and enertaining.

Customer Reviews:
Elmo is awesome.......2007-07-05
My son is 20 months and he loves sesame street. This book is really cute and entertaining for him. It has a lot of the characters not just elmo. Which is great since he really loves cookie monster as well as elmo.
Cute book, poor quality.......2007-03-09
The story for the book is really cute and my son loves Elmo, but the build quality of the book is really poor. My son has ripped off all the lift tabs within only a few weeks of having the book. We have other books with lift tabs and they are built stronger and he has not ripped them off, but this one is now just about finished.
The only way I would recommend this book is if you child is disciplined enough to not rip off the lift tabs.
My toddlers favorite.......2007-02-03
My 15 month daughter loves this book. She picks this one the most out of all the others she has. She loves lifting the flaps herself. The flaps have held up well considering this book as been bent backwards and every which way. A great buy
Fun book!.......2007-01-31
I bought this book for my daughter's Christmas present. She was 16 months. Since then (almost 2 months later) this is one of the the most read and "examined" books by her. I think we look at/read it at least 3 times a day. The only downside to this book is my particular copy. This copy had some binding issues so that some of the lift flaps left spaces between the top page and the back page and she then figured out how to separate the actual pages from each other. I think it could have been put together a little better.
LioMom.......2006-11-28
My 13 month old is a little bookworm and LOVES this book. Its the book she always chooses to read together before naps/bedtime. Its very busy and she loves to look at everything going on and will lift every flap. I dont bother to read the text (there isnt much anyway), but make up my own story and songs for each flap. She has ripped the flaps off of a lot of her other books, but hasn't managed to rip one of these off yet.
Book Description
The H Block protest is one of the strangest and most controversial issues in the tragic history of Northern Ireland. Republican prisoners, convicted of grave crimes through special courts and ruthless interrogation procedures, campaigned for political status by refusing to wear prison clothes and daubing their cell with excrement. Were they properly convicted criminals, or martyrs to political injustice? In a masterpiece of investigative journalism, Coogan provides us with the only first-hand account of the protest. His investigation led deep into the social, cultural, and economic maze of Northern Ireland's history to give readers an unmatched analysis of a troubled place and its sorrowful history.
Customer Reviews:
STANDING UP FOR WHAT YOU BELEVE IN.......2002-12-26
THIS BOOK IS ABOUT THE DIRTY PROTEST BY THE IRA PRISONERS IN H BLOCK OF THE MAZE PRISON ONE OF THE PRISONERS WAS BOBBY SANDS. WHETEHER YOU AGREE WITH THE IRA OR NOT IT IS A TRAGIC INCIDENT AND SHOWS THE WILL AND DRIVE OF THESE 10 MEN AND ALL THERE SUPPORTERS AND THERE STANDING FOR THE THINGS THEY TRULY BELIEVE IN ESPECIAALY IN SUCH DEPLORABLE CONDITIONS. SOME BOOKS ABOUT THE TROUBLES ARE A LITTLE DIFFICULT TO GET THROUGH BUT THIS WAS A PRETTY GOOD BOOK
Unflinching Journal of the IRA's "Dirty Protest".......2002-11-19
Published just prior to the hunger strikes of 1981 which claimed the life of ten IRA prisoners, "On The Blanket" details the so-called "dirty protest" that led up to the horrors of that year. With several first-hand accounts from prisoners and actors in the struggle, Coogan presents an unflinching account of the events in Long Kesh (the Maze) and Armagh prisons. The descriptions of the conditions in both prisons will move even the most cold-hearted reader. Coogan puts forth an important work that will stand as testiment to this troubled period in Irish history.
