Book Description
"Like big sister Judy, Stink sports a talent for self-expression. . . . The quick-witted dialogue will keep readers entertained." — BOOKLIST
When Stink buys a huge jawbreaker that doesn’t break his jaw, he writes to the manufacturer — and receives 21,280 jawbreakers for his trouble! Soon he’s so obsessed with getting free stuff that he misses an envelope in the mail pile, until his best friend starts looking as mad as a hornet. Thirty-six idioms are sprinkled through the story, inspiring a search that’s more fun than a barrel of monkeys.
Customer Reviews:
Great book for 3-4th graders.......2007-04-08
My kids have all Judy Moody and Stink books. They love them, and I know for the fact that they help kids who struggle with reading in 3rd grade. They are easy to read and have a good story, are funny and appealing to that age group. A must have!
Fun book!.......2007-03-27
My son is only 4, but he really loves these stories!! He feels like such a big boy reading longer stories with less pictures. We have a great time reading and laughing at the things that happen to Stink!
Very cute book!.......2007-01-16
My 10 year old son really liked this book. He finished it in two reading sessions. It's a shame that it was such a short book. He highly recommends it for a short read.
Not as good as the first........2007-01-03
This was cute, but seemed forced and the plot was fluffy. Not nearly as good or engaging as the first Stink book, which my 7-year-old son loved. The characters are still fun, though. I hope No. 3, if one is planned, is more substantial.
A zany story of a boy's adventure.......2006-06-13
Megan McDonald's Stink And The Incredible Super-Galactic Jawbreaker tells of Stink Moody, who gets a ten-pound box of 23,280 jawbreakers just for writing a letter to the handy company. Inspired, he fires off more such letters - and packages of free stuff keeps on coming, until a small envelope changes his life. A zany story of a boy's adventure.

"Delightful full-page spot-art cartoons and playful language in large type
bring the child's adventures to life. ‘Things are definitely looking up,
up, UP' with this bright addition to beginning chapter-book collections."
— SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL
Shrink, shrank, shrunk!
Every morning, Judy Moody measures Stink, and it's always the same: three feet, eight inches tall. Then, one day, the ruler reads - can it be? - three feet, seven and three quarters inches! Is Stink shrinking?
In Stink's first solo adventure, his style comes through loud and strong - enhanced by a series of comic strips, drawn by Stink himself, which are sprinkled throughout the book. These very funny, homespun sagas reflect the familiar voice of a kid who pictures himself with super powers to deal with the travails of everyday life - including the occasional teasing of a bossy big sister!

My kids age 9years and 6years love this CD. They have listened to it more times than I can count. I bought it because they took it out of the library so many times.
Kids love this book at any age.......2006-11-10
Stink is quite a character and the kids love him. It is good read out loud to the younger or older set and great for new readers.
Stink Rules.......2006-04-05
Stink is an enjoyable book for kids of all ages. In Stink he is chosen to take home the class pet Newton the Nute. Stink's annoying sister does something horrible to Newton. Read the book to find out what she does to Newton.
Great book for encouraging boys to read.......2006-02-13
This book follows Stink through a couple weeks of his life. Stink is the younger brother of Judy Moody. He is very discouraged because he is the shortest person in his class and it appears that he is shrinking!
After I read this book I asked my little one to read it and he enjoyed Stink's comics and the easy flow of the story.

Katie Kazoo Love Stinks!.......2007-02-09
I read Katie Kazoo Love Stinks! I think Love Stinks is an exiting, fun book beacause Katie turns into Cinnamon and makes a diaster when she's the candy maker. In the book I read,"Katie had turned into Cinnamon." This helped convince me that it was a good book.

Customer Reviews:
I've been teaching elementary school for 20 years.......2006-12-15
....and I've yet to find a children's book that is so perfect...and absolutely gorgeous! Ms. Spiegel's illustrations add wit and charm to a lovely read-aloud experience that completely enchanted my students (now BIG second graders!) who remember the monumental transition from kindergarten to first grade very well. I look forward to more collaborations between this gifted author and her brilliant illustrator!
The Book Every Teacher Needs in her Classroom!.......2006-11-21
As a former elementary teacher, this delightful book is one that warms my heart. First grader Haley desperately wants to go back to Ms. Lacy's kindergarten class where things are fun, that is, until she discovers the best thing about being in first grade. Author Mary Ann Rodman's sense of humor is evident from the first page to the last and my heart glows like Haley's orange sky whenever I thumb through this wonderful book. The illustrations by Beth Spiegel are perfect in every way, too! Perfect combination. Definitely a keeper!
No Stinker Here.......2006-11-01
First Grade Stinks! is a wonderfully realistic look at the awkward transition from being a somewhat coddled kindergartener to being a first grader who must learn more and play less. Rodman's fresh, believable characterizations of Haley and her new teacher, Ms. Gray (!), are a true delight. Beautiful illustrations by Beth Spiegel add to a great reading experience.

A Little Relief for Test Anxiety.......2006-03-21
For children with test anxiety this is a helpful book with humor children can relate to
Horribly overpriced. Buyer beware........2001-12-21
Never before, in years of purchases at Amazon, have I ever actually returned an item until I purchased this book (and its companion). ($$$)dollars is WAY too much to charge. I bought this for my 10 year old son, but the content is skimpy and mostly drawings. There is at most a paragraph or two on a page, with huge text and lots of white space. This is more like an essay paper than a book. Thanks but no thanks...I'll take my ($$$) back!
Book Description
When Gilbert writes two not-so-nice valentines to his classmates, his prank quickly turns into pandemonium. But there's always time for a change of heart on Valentine's Day.

Daughter Loves this book.......2006-10-02
Our 4 yr old daughter loves this book. She has requested this book every night for the past two weeks. The illustrations keep her attention while the story teaches lessons at her level of understanding. We look forward to more books from this series.
Review By Cherie, Jenn and Natalie.......2005-03-17
We really liked the illustration and the funny poems and the good moral of the book. There wasn't anything really that we didn't like while reading it.
Violets are blue i like this book and you should too!.......2005-03-16
The moral of the story is really good because it teaches kids to always be nice to peole no matter what. Even if people are are mean to you it is important to always be nice and polite and this book does a great job of teaching that. It helps kids see what can happen when people dont treat other people like they would want to be treated.
The illustration in this book were very cute. They were very creative and they kept kids interested.
This really is a great book and kids would really like to listen to this story. They would enjoy the illustations and they would remember the characters long after reading the book.
Valentine's Day with a Message.......2001-01-31
Gilbert has a real dilemma. He's writing poems on his Valentine cards, for his classmates, but doesn't want to write something nice to Lewis and Margaret. Lewis tweaked his nose and made it red and Margaret said mean things about him in front of the class. So he decides to write each an unkind poem and instead of signing his own name, since he's afraid they'll be angry, he signs Lewis's name to Margaret's card and Margaret's name to Lewis's Valentine. It doesn't take long before Margaret and Lewis figure out who really gave them these mean cards and they, along with the rest of the class won't have anything to do with Gilbert. First he has to eat lunch all alone, no one will sit with him and at then at recess, no one will play with him. As soon as he gets back to class, Gilbert gets to work making new cards for Lewis and Margaret and apologizing for his unkindness. As the class party begins all is forgiven and Lewis, Margaret and Gilbert are friends again..... Diane De Groat has written a simple, charming story with a powerful message about the importance of second chances, that youngsters 4-8 will easily understand. Her gentle text and wonderful watercolor illustrations really capture the small hurts and slights kids experience and her positive, uplifting ending and sensible solution should open good discussions at home and at school.
Customer Reviews:
I remember liking this in second grade.......2006-01-03
I had gotten this book from a book club because I liked the title. It turns out to be a book about a guy named michael who's really excited about valentines day and is making valentines for the neighborhood kids and a special valentines day box. But after a minor accident on the way to school causing him to lose all his work, his class is discussing things about the month of feburary including groundhogs day, black history month, valentines day and so forth. He's eager to give all the answers but he keeps yelling them out and losing out on getting to make the valentine box for the class. So he goes home and writes mean valentines and then decides to have a valentine party where he would invite his friends over so they can make valentines. But he took matters into his own hands again. He assigned each friend to do a certain task instead of letting them make valentines on their own and his bossiness made them all mad at him and stuff but in the end it all worked out and valentines day turned out to be nice
on a side plot, michael's sister donna was kicked out of college for not having high grades and they talk about it every now and then at the end after helping michael out when he wasn't getting along with his friends at the valentine party, she realizes she wants to get into teaching and will try to start a career in that field
