Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description

Are you ready for the Cob Cottage? This is a building method so old and so simple that it has been all but forgotten in the rush to synthetics. A cob cottage, cobb, however, might be the ultimate expression of ecological design, a structure so attuned to its surroundings that its creators refer to it as "an ecstatic house."
The authors build a house the way others create a natural garden. They use the oldest, most available materials imaginable—earth, clay, sand, straw, and water—and blend them to redefine the future (and past) of building. Cob (the word comes from an Old English root, meaning "lump") is a mixture of non-toxic, recyclable, and often free materials. Building with cob requires no forms, no cement, and no machinery of any kind. Builders actually sculpt their structures by hand.
Building with earth is nothing new to America; the oldest structures on the continent were built with adobe bricks. Adobe, however, has been geographically limited to the Southwest. The limits of cob are defined only by the builder's imagination.
Cob offers answers regarding our role in Nature, family and society, about why we feel the ways that we do, about what's missing in our lives. Cob comes as a revelation, a key to a saner world.
Cob has been a traditional building process for millennia in Europe, even in rainy and windy climates like the British Isles, where many cob buildings still serve as family homes after hundreds of years. The technique is newly arrived to the Americas, and, as with so many social trends, the early adopters are in the Pacific Northwest.
Cob houses (or cottages, since they are always efficiently small by American construction standards) are not only compatible with their surroundings, they ARE their surroundings, literally rising up from the earth. They are full of light, energy-efficient, and cozy, with curved walls and built-in, whimsical touches. They are delightful. They are ecstatic.

5 out of 5 stars Practical, Comforting, and Fun.......2007-01-06

This book gives basic instructions on everything you need to know about cob home construction with many illustrations and a great set of glossy color photos in the middle of the book.

This book is great to read even if you never build a cob home because of the amount of information it contains that can be of use for any kind of house.

Also, the book walks the reader through several excercises that are meant to open up one's own innate creativity.

I really enjoyed the integration of spiritual philosophy into very practical instructions, it makes for a great balance.

I felt that the book was very fun to read and put me into a lighthearted mood.

The book also contains many references to other natural/alternative building techniques that can be employed instead of or in addition to cob.

Enjoy!

If there is one book that you need to read than this is it. Get your feet in the mud and find out who you really are. This book changed my life. Gave me the empowerment to throw off the chains of being dependent on paying alot of money for a basic need: good housing. Now I've embarked on a path of creativity, to build a house that is healthy, and will suit all my needs. My thanks are great!

5 out of 5 stars Stunning AND the Absolute Last Word in Cob Info.......2006-03-23

I spent hours and hours with this beautiful and entertaining book, and I was only barely interested in Cob! This book is absolutely terrific, it is wonderfully and beautifully illustrated, includes color photos of some great cob houses, and is absolutely THE book you need if you want to learn about cob, or build your own cob structure. It is a wonderful balance of fun, personal stories, expertise, and technical info. (And really very inclusive too!) I read both Becky's and then this book. It really made me comfortable with cobbing because it is so well done, so inclusive and informative. A testimonial: Some time after reading this book over and over, we decided that cob was not appropriate for our site, and I STILL recently picked up this book for a good read!

5 out of 5 stars Simply gorgeous!.......2005-09-23

First, it's fun just to browse through the gorgeous homes and creations in this book. Second, cob is well researched and documented here, for instance, did you know there are cob homes in Devonshire England that are over 400 years old? Third, this is a remarkably practical handbook for siting, designing, and building a home from cob.
On a practical note, you might want to start with a cob oven for practice. Kiko Denzer wrote a lovely book on the subject, "Building your own wood fired oven". Cob is incredibly fun to work with, but very, very labor intensive.
I really wish I could give this book six stars, because it's truly a fabulous and peerless manual for building with cob.
Buy it, you won't regret it a bit! It's a book you'll go back to again and again, and dream with on cold winter days.

Book Description

Cob (an old English word for lump) is old-fashioned concrete, made out of a mixture of clay, sand, and straw. Becky Bee's manual is a friendly guide to making your own earth structure, with chapters on design, foundations, floors, windows and doors, finishes, and of course, making glorious cob.
"I believe that building with cob is a way to recreate community and experience the joy of working together while taking back the right to build our own homes and look after our Mother Earth."
She loves doing something that makes sense in a world where lots of things don't.

This book will definitely get your gears turning if you have a love of building. It is simply written with descent illustration. This style of building isn't a difficult concept. However, it is a different concept that I found very intersting. A great book for smaller outdoor projects such as pavillions or outdoor cooking areas.

5 out of 5 stars best.......2006-11-10

I completely enjoyed this book, it is informative, practical, and consistently puts forth the message that ANYONE can build a home. I bought some acreage and have started my own. When I get overwhelmed, I reread this book, step back, and break it down into smaller steps. One of the easiest, most encouraging books I've read on any subject, and the best of the dozen books I've read on this subject.

Earth on Her Hands celebrates the kind of people who have quietly and to minimal acclaim, over two centuries, developed and polished American garden style. These are the avid gardeners--mostly women--who establish and support community horticultural organizations and whose own gardens are examples of personal expression with unique local characteristics.

Starr Ockenga has interviewed 18 women who have worked and shaped their land, often over the course of several decades, into their dream gardens. From Ellie Spingarn's Connecticut stone wall to Georgie Erskine's Southern California citrus allée, each has features that are unique but fit seamlessly into their environment. There are meadows, orchards, a bonsai garden, vegetable gardens carved out of woodland, one walled English-style garden, and one that's intensely French, with topiaries, espaliered bushes, and a copper-roofed teahouse. Each woman is a plant collector of sorts, and each garden description is accompanied by a list of recommended plants. This is a joyous, soulful book that explores the complexity of garden-building and the effect it has on gardeners' lives.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Not for women only!!.......2007-03-27

Men: please do not be put off by the title! This book is an inspiration that proves to be accessible to both sexes. Beauty in the garden cannot be bounded by gender lines. The photographs (many of which are full-page, with lovely sepia and white prints of the women themselves) are stunning, and this is one of the few gardening books where I actually read the accompanying text.

This is not a how-to-do-it, but more of a how-they-did-it; the stories really capture the continuity that results from a years-long commitment to one's land. For instance, one photo shows how a single plant purched in the 50s has grown into a sweeping carpet along a stone wall.

18 women and their US spaces are showcased here. (However, Alaska and Hawaii are not featured and I think this could have made the book even more wonderful.) Each woman gets a separate chapter, complete with pages and pages of well-captioned glossy photos, very readable text, a hand drawing of their garden designs, and several relevant lists. Some of the lists cover woodland carpet plants, white annuals/perennials/bulbs, and personal recommendations.

All sorts of gardens - alpine, rock, seaside, miniature/bonsai, water, citrus, huge-scale, small-scale, woodland - make up this large compendium. The book is 12.5 by 9 inches - a great contribution to a field where books seem to be getting smaller and smaller, and its size is really appropriate for the subject matter.

This is a book that I would have been thrilled with, sight unseen, and it would make a marvelous gift for someone special in your life, if you could bear to part with it. This one's a keeper, and it will not sit still on your coffee table!!

5 out of 5 stars Refreshing Approach to Gardening.......2004-07-06

I love gardening how-to and reference books. Although this book is neither, I love it nevertheless. The idea behind this book is simple. 18 women and their gardens. Each woman is interviewed, there are many many photographs of both the gardens and the gardener. You get to hear each woman's voice and hear her wisdom. You get to see plant lists, garden plans as well and understand the philosphy and approach that each woman has taken in her gardening endevour. If the context of this book were a village, it would serve as a storyteller of the female elders and their creation of special space. Gardening is most than simply landscaping. Reading this book you understand the difference. I only with there were more women gardeners in this edition!

4 out of 5 stars Beautiful women, beautiful gardens.......2002-11-24

Another fabulous Clarkson Potter Publishers book, Earth on Her Hands is a series of short biographies of 18 women who are non-professional, private gardeners and who have spent a lifetime growing and creating outstanding gardens. Each biography includes stunning color photos of the gardens and lovely sepia toned photos of the gardeners themselves as well as garden diagram sketches and individual gardener plant or project recommendations from their personal experiences. Ideas, inspiration and knowledge abound from these women (use flower arrangements IN the garden for areas where color is needed; 'Jersey Knight' asparagus is male and will not seed making it more productive) and their lifelong committment to their land, spaces, and plants gives every gardener something to aspire to. Any gardener worth her soil will find this an inspirational gift to give and receive, and a delightful off-season read.

5 out of 5 stars An inspiring book.......2001-11-10

This is definately one of the most beautifully photographed books I have seen. Eighteen women gardeners from across the U.S. and their stunning gardens are profiled. Most of the women gardeners here are older and have been working on their gardens for decades. Some of them are also active in their local communities in garden clubs, parks and botanical gardens. If you enjoy looking at other people's gardens, you will love this. The photos are mouth watering. Each profile (about 10 pages in length) is wrapped up with a list of the gardener's recommended plants. This would be a good companion to Rosemary Verey's excellent book "The American Man's Garden".

5 out of 5 stars Won American Horticultural Society's 1999 Annual Book Award.......1999-08-05

Starr Ockenga's luminary profiles of some of North America's most dedicated women gardeners are inspirational for anyone who gardens. This book is a wonderfully designed blend of fine photography and eloquent writing. A must for the avid gardener.

Book Description

• Bestselling author Barbara Hand Clow examines legendary cataclysms and shows how we are about to overcome the collective fear they have instilled in us.

• The long-awaited follow-up that continues the revelations begun in The Pleiadian Agenda, which has sold more than 60,000 copies.

• Explains why, contrary to many prophets of doom, we are actually on the cusp of an era of incredible creative growth.

The recent discovery of the remains of ancient villages buried beneath the Black Sea is the latest instance of mounting evidence that many of the "mythic" catastrophes of history--the fall of Atlantis, the Biblical Flood--were actual events. In Catastrophobia Barbara Hand Clow shows that a series of cataclysmic disasters, caused by a massive disturbance in the Earth's crust 11,500 years ago, rocked the world and left humanity's collective psyche permanently scarred. We are a wounded species, and this unprocessed fear, passed from generation to generation, is responsible for our constant expectations of apocalypse, from Y2K to the famed end of the Mayan calendar in 2012.

Catastrophobia reveals the insidious global forces that have used these collective fears to control humanity for thousands of years. But we are in the midst of a tremendous shift in the Earth's 26,000-year precessional cycle, and there is every indication that the changes in consciousness over the last 30 years are the beginnings of a collective healing from these deep fears, heralding a new age where we will see that the era of cataclysms is ending and a time of extraordinary creative activity is at hand.

4 out of 5 stars The Messages and the Recipients.......2005-10-14

I've been reading a lot about global catastrophe -- either as earth changes, political war-based mayhem, or weather that is out-of-control -- and it comes down to this: Change is inevitable. Ms Clow allows as to how that is the case. It's the reaction of all of us that will make or break civilization as we know it. Clow has a lot of material for us to chew on.

I've just read most of this book -- it's the technical one of the three I'm keeping close at hand. I like the meaty parts. Reality is a good thing. But I have to recommend that it be purchased with two other selections.

First, read "The Song of an Emerald Dove" by Xanna Vinson to get a feel for what it feels like to live in a world sensitized by global instability if you are a woman who "feels" in a psychic way and wants to help put things to right. Then pick up Dr. Jean Shinoda Bolen's newest work, "Urgent Message from Mother" in order to see how globally the 'messages' are being received -- and then use her wise suggestions to find a way to balance truth and imagination in your own mind and world -- and learn to take action in ways that will better prepare you and your loved ones to make it through *whatever* is on the horizon with flying colors.

We aren't a world of alarmists, not most of us. But there is a time when one has to ask: Am I insane to believe what I'm feeling? Or am I insane *not* to believe it? "Catastrophobia" helps you figure that out; "Message" helps you mobilize if you feel you should; and "Dove" makes you feel empowered -- and just plain good about taking those first steps to live in a changing world.

Read all three. Do it now!

4 out of 5 stars A different twist.......2005-09-18

Catastrophobia has a lot of alternative scientific explainations concerning astronomical mechanics of the earth's motion. I enjoyed her recognition of the fear that seems to have swept through the modern human psyche. Clow's style is grounded, mature and not hesitant to go straight for the heart of many bizarre but well explained theories. There is a lot of information in this book and a lot of ancient knowledge comes to light.

5 out of 5 stars Extremely good book.......2004-08-21

It is a facinating new paradigm book, It will change completely your perspective of life with very valuable and recent information. Thanks Barbara Hand Clow for giving this masterpiece to the world!

3 out of 5 stars Excellent Information despite flawed conclusion.......2004-01-03

I had a tough time rating this book as it has a flawed conclusion that changes the entire message of the book. The author of the Foreword is the main reason for this flawed conclusion of the great cataclysm occurring 11,500 years ago which is when he suggests we went through the galactic equator plane. This is patently FALSE as prooved by the book "Galactic Alignment" by Jenkins, as we are going through the Galactic Equator Plane in the 2000-2012 time period NOW. I rated it three stars and considered giving it 4 stars cuz of the good information that can be gleaned from this book. It does establish that a catastrophe does happen every 30 milllion years like clockwork due to the earth going through the galactic equator plane 8 times in a galactic year of 240 million years. Yes this book is a keeper, even with the flawed conclusion that we have already had the great catastrophe 11,500 years ago when we are about to experience it in 2012.

5 out of 5 stars Catastrophobia: Have We Been Viewing the Film in Reverse?.......2003-07-05

Barbara Hand Clow is a noted astrologer, shaman, teacher, theologian and trained anthropologist, a tireless researcher, and the author of a number of important and best-selling books including "Pleiadian Agenda" and "Chiron: Rainbow Bridge Between the Inner and Outer Planets." In "Catastrophobia: The Truth Behind Earth Changes in the Coming Age of Light" she once again reaches beyond the consensus to shed new light and original thinking on the events, processes and anxieties that humans deal with on a daily basis.

The pervasive fear of an impending catastrophe is the motivating force, in Ms. Clow's postulation, behind and beneath all of the obsessions having to do with the structure of contemporary earthly civilization: work, human relationships, the economy, the environment and the state, and the search for healing of these structures and ourselves. But whence this anxiety? Why now, and indeed at periodic intervals over the course of recorded history, have we feared a coming catastrophe, a tragedy of such proportions as to snuff out the Earth and all that lives on it?

In this monumental work, Ms. Clow examines legendary cataclysms and delineates how - contrary to prevailing prophecies of dark and deadly times to come - we are truly on the cusp of an era of incredible creative and spiritual growth. The very recent discovery of the remains of ancient villages buried beneath the Black Sea is but the latest in the accumulation of mounting evidence that many of the "mythic" catastrophes of history - the fall of Atlantis, the Biblical flood - were historic events. Ms. Clow ably demonstrates how a series of cataclysmic disasters resulting from a disturbance in the Earth's crust some 11,500 years ago (itself likely caused at least in part by a stellar supernova in the nearby Vela system) "rocked the world" and left humankind's collective psyche deeply scarred and ineradicably traumatized. We are, in her view, "a wounded species," and the unprocessed, until-now indescribable fear passed from generation to generation is responsible for the constant and widespread expectation of a world-ending apocalypse, seen in such instances as the Y2K event to the much-reported end of the Mayan calendar in 2012.

"Catastrophobia" also uncovers in detail the insidious global forces - economic, political and religious - that have used these collective fears to control and manipulate humanity for countless centuries. But Ms. Clow's book offers more than a glimmer of hope. It is the work of an informed, reasonable and persuasive optimist. In the author's view, we are in the midst of a shift in the Earth's 26,000 year precessional cycle, and there is every indication that the changes in consciousness seen over the past forty years are the beginnings of a collective healing from these deep fears from the primeval past, heralding a time to come of great spiritual evolution.

Ms. Clow's monumental research effort in writing this insightful and important book and the scientific efforts underlying that research it are particularly praiseworthy. The reader is advised, for a taste of the foregoing and as a preface to "Catastrophobia," to consult the article by G.R. Brackenridge in Icarus (16:81-93) entitled "Terrestrial Paleoenvironmental Effects of a Late Quarternary Age Supernova."

Every serious student of history (both academic and alternative) has every reason to own this important, incisive and pacesetting volume. It will appeal also to the astrologer and the eschatologist, as well as the scientist willing to approach Ms. Clow's work with an open mind.

5 out of 5 stars This book ROCKS!.......2007-09-07

I'm not sure why the previous reviewer thought there was nothing to this book, perhaps they did not actually USE the book themselves. I HAVE used this book for my children's homeschool study, and it is FANTASTIC! The concepts found in the book can be elaborated upon for older children, and used ~as is~ for younger kids, while the activities very well lend themselves to cementing basic geology into ANYbody's head, young or old. Plate tectonics with graham crackers, earth's crust with a composite homemade marshmellow- peppermint candy- chocolate-coated lolli-pop, sand-box crater creater... and the list goes on! My children have absolutely LOVED this book! And quite to the contrary of the previous reviewer's opinion, it has gotten them FAR MORE interested in geology then they ever knew they were!

3 out of 5 stars Familiar Territory.......2001-10-04

I've looked over the book, and a friend who teaches science from ages 6-14 read it. It covers a lot of familiar territory found in other books. There were very few interesting or unusual new ideas presented. It would take more than presented here to get a young student interested in geology.

5 out of 5 stars Rocks Rock!.......2000-03-28

This is a wonderful introduction to concepts for your young geologist as well as a great place to find ideas for activities and experiements to aid her in her exploration of the earth! I've seen some of the activities presented in this book before, but several were new to me. The text is written in a witty manner, yet still provides a wealth of information.

5 out of 5 stars Simple and Informative.......2006-03-10

I purchased all three of the science activity books to help fill in a homeschool science program. I think I could probably use these books alone as a science program. These are great experiments with enough background for the non-science person to teach from. They use largely materials that you have lying around the house, and when they ask for something less available, there is often another experiment with more common items that teaches the same concept. Very adaptable to the multi-age classroom that most homeschoolers have. It's very easy to make the lessons harder for older students while not "losing" the Kindergarteners.

If you've ever wondered at the line " I think that I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree." Andy Goldsworthy can help. His sculptures created from nature (ferns, ice, poppy petals, etc.) are some of the most breathtaking compositions I have ever seen. This is a grteat primer book on him. It has a little of all his work from his "holes" to "arches". While not as lush and detailed as some of his other books, they are usually more focused and take a specific angle on his work. (eg. wood, stone, arches) This book is rich with information though, and a great grab bag of his work. Buy this book, find out what you like and buy more. I promise you wont be dissapointed.

    Book Description

This is an enlarged new edition of Grace Halsell last book, Forcing God's Hand: Why Millions Pray for a Quick Rapture... And Destruction of Planet Earth. This edition includes transcript of CBS 60 Minutes program "Zion's Christian Soldiers" aired October 6, 2002 and additional articles on the subject written by the author.

"Halsell exposes Falwell's Christian tours as having only one purpose: to raise money for Falwell and Israel, under the guise of preparing the pilgrims for the approaching Armageddon. An excellent book."

    Book Description

In her startling new book, Forcing God's Hand: Why Millions Pray for a Quick Rapture and the Destruction of Planet Earth, Grace Halsell explores the danger of a new religious doctrine sweeping America. Adherents to this doctrine are said to constitute the fastest growing movement in Christianity today. Its leaders proclaim that God wants--even demands--that Planet Earth be destroyed in our generation.

Cult members do not look like the so-called "crazies"--those such as Jim Jones or leaders of the "Branch Davidians" or "Heaven's Gate," who led followers to death declaring the end is near. Yet, Halsell writes, "They accept the same theology: we can do nothing about the environment, it's useless to work for peace, rather we must build more weapons for Armageddon."

Those proclaiming that we must wage Armageddon do not, however, expect to suffer. As the book points out, Pat Robertson, Hal Lindsey, Tim LaHaye and almost 100,000 other U.S. Fundamentalists broadcasting on 2,000 Christian radio and TV stations assure adherents that while the world will be destroyed, they will be given a free Rapture ticket. They need not suffer a moment of agony. As Jerry Falwell puts it, "I'm not worried. You know why? I ain't gonna be here."

Cult leaders assure followers, now said to include one out of ten Americans, that they will be wafted up to heaven for a special grandstand seat where, in comfort, they will watch the final holocaust, the agony and death of billions of men, women and children.

Forcing God's Hand explains the popularity of this End Time doctrine. A Tennessean, Cyrus Scofield, popularized the idea of a Free Rapture, a theology originally imported from England less than 200 years ago. The theology holds that Christians must look to the biblical land of the Jews for their salvation; that the land itself is more important to Christians than the message of Christ. Scofield taught that Christ was held hostage until Jews carried out a preordained plan: they were to leave their native lands, including Russia, Europe, Africa and America, and settle in Palestine. They were to eradicate, with the help of Christians, the most sacred Islamic shrine in Jerusalem, a mosque holy to a billion Muslims around the world; and once Christ returned, the Jews must convert to Christianity. His doctrine, called dispensationalism, was encoded into the Scofield Reference Bible.

His dispensationalist Reference Bible is used by virtually all TV and radio preachers. Their certitude in Armageddon, along with their offer of an escape hatch, makes converts of a growing number of mainstream, middle to upper-middle class Americans. Dispensationalists attend a variety of Protestant churches, including those known as charismatic. They represent 15 to 20 percent of the 16-million member Southern Baptist Convention. They also are members of so-called Bible churches and megachurches, such as those attended by Special Prosecutor Kenneth Starr in McLean, Virginia, and U.S. Congressman Tom DeLay in Sugar Land, a suburb of Houston.

Dispensationalism is taught throughout the U.S., at large and influential seminaries including the Dallas Theological Seminary, where Hal Lindsey studied, the Moody Bible Institute of Chicago, the Philadelphia College of the Bible, the Bible Institute of Los Angeles, as well as 200 other colleges and institutes. Currently there are more than 100,000 students in Bible school.

    5 out of 5 stars Great Information.......2007-05-13

I recommend this book to those who want the truth..If you do not want the truth..do not read it.It explains why millions pray for a quick rapture and the destruction of the earth. Its all about Christian_________ and America is behind it all.The author exposes the doctrine of a "pre trib"rapture and why it makes no sense at all to believe or teach such a doctrine that cannot be supported by the Bible.

4 out of 5 stars When Religion and Politics mix........2007-03-04

This book exposes the hypocrisy of the Christian right. Their support of Israel is motivated by the belief that mortal men can accelerate Armageddon and the false expectation of a rapture. It seems disingenuous to me that a Christian leader could support the building of a third temple and a return to animal sacrifice. After all,was sacrificial law not fulfilled by the crucifixion of Yahushua(Christ)? These religious leaders don't really like Jews. They are just using them to get something that they want.A few quotes in the book show that very clearly- "Who will the Antichrist be?...Of course he'll be Jewish."-Jerry Falwell. "Only 144,000 Jews will remain alive after Armageddon."-Hal Lindsey. That's not exactly a flattering endorsement! Errant also in that the passage used doesn't anywhere identify the 144,000 as Jews. A member of a tribe of Israel is not necessarily identical to a Jew or someone practicing Judaism. Some food for thought regarding Armageddon; Nobody can force God's(YaHUaH) hand! What will people do when the rapture doesn't happen? It's very easy to sell Christians on the idea of a "free pass" while the Jews are supposedly being "purged".After all,who wants to suffer? This book goes a long way in showing the real motivation of some Christian leaders' support of Israel. They really seem to believe that they can speed up the process of what God clearly controls! This is a well written, easy reading book.I recommend it.

1 out of 5 stars Grace Halsell does not know real truth on Rapture. Rapture has its significance.......2006-03-11

Grace Halsell does not know the real truth behind this event.Which one? The Rapture!
No one wants to see the Earth destroyed, and the Earth will not be destroyed. It will just be renewed when Jesus Christ arrives back to this planet; He will rule it for a 1000 years but then He will be recommissioned, so He will rule it forever and forever. The rapture has to occur because this will signal the beginning of the tribulation period. The faithful servants of Jesus Christ (His followers who have prayed to Him, and whoo have followed His Commandments) will be picked up the Creator Himself because "we" have believed in Him (In Christ Jesus), in He being the Messiah. The tribulation time, for those who stay behind will face Satan-in the flesh here on earth. The antichrist will want all humans who stay on this planet to pay allegiance to him (the devil)and will want the masses to have this mark on their right hand or forehead. Get the mark, and on judgement day those who get it will go to hell. Refuse the mark (the mark of the beast)and have Eternal life with Christ. This is not a quick rapture at all, Halsell is all wrong.

4 out of 5 stars How Heretical Christianity Supports Israeli Interests........2004-12-26

_Forcing God's Hand: Why Millions Pray for a Quick Rapture-And Destruction of Planet Earth_ by Grace Halsell is a very interesting book giving some surprising information about popular theological trends in American Protestantism and how they relate to the US-Israel relationship and possibly the peace and stability of the Middle East. The book is not very academic in structure and like another reviewer notes, it "smacks of propaganda." Not only is this book propagandistic but it has a very left-wing slant to it as well (Halsell worked for President Johnson's administration back in the 1960s). However, what the book does cover is substantial and reveals certain problematic issues within American Christianity and how this carries over into foreign politics. Halsell's focus is on "dispensationalist" theology centered in "Bible churches" that began to develop during the mid 19th century by a British preacher John Darby, and popularized en masse by an American minister of questionable background, C. I. Scofield, around the turn of the century. Scofield published the _Scofield Reference Bible_ in 1908 and since then dispensationalism has proven extremely influential amongst evangelical and fundamentalist Protestants opposed to "higher criticism" in Biblical studies and theological liberalism that developed during the latter 19th century. Halsell notes well how dispensationalism deviates significantly from traditional Biblical interpretation agreed upon by Roman Catholic, Orthodox and mainstream Protestant churches. Until the advent of dispensational theology, most churches held more or less to the view of St. Augustine: God's "chosen people" consisted of believers in Christ, and the Old Testament references to a literal race of people as God's chosen were superceded by the universal message of the Gospel. Dispensationalism, on the other hand, adheres to a belief that God's covenants with Old Testament Israel (and therefore modern Jewry) are still in force. Non-Jews are rescued from God's wrath by faith in Christ, and Christ is the Jewish messiah who will come at the end of the tribulation to establish a literal 1000 year reign on earth before the final battle between good and evil. A main issue of contention between dispensationalists and orthodox interpretations is the issue of whether or not God's covenants with Israel were conditional or not. Dispensationalists hold that God's covenant with Israel is unconditional while traditional interpreters maintain God's covenants effectual with the participation of the human party involved, whether with a specific individual or group of people. God (in Genesis) promised Abraham that his descendants (the Jews) would inhabit a kingdom encompassing not only all of present-day Palestine, but Lebanon, parts of Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula as well. Not only this, but dispensationalists believe the foundation of Israel in 1948 as an officially Jewish state was a fulfillment of Biblical prophecy which is a sign of the end of time. Jesus will return to save the Jews from coming destruction at the hands of the Antichrist after they suffered three and a half years of persecution and warfare. Another curiosity of dispensationalist theology says that Christians will be "raptured" before the tribulation under the Antichrist begins. Other signs of the end times include a rebuilt temple in Jerusalem complete with the Levitical animal sacrifices-where the Muslim shine Aqsa Mosque stands today, Islam's third holiest site after the Arabian cities of Mecca and Medina. Although Jews in general have proven themselves time and time again hostile to Christian activity of any sort, Israeli politicians and military officers have developed a close relationship with American Christian fundamentalists to promote dispensational theology in return for political support for Israel. Many prominent members of the US Republican Party are adherents of dispensational theology and attend "Bible" Churches such as Jesse Helms, Trent Lott, Ronald Regan, Tom DeLay and Oliver North. Halsell, a left winger, is especially disturbed by some Jews in the US supporting right-wing Christians because of the security it entails for Israeli interests. The whole fundamentalist Christian/Israeli relationship is entirely hypocritical in the first place because not all Palestinians are Muslims. A sizable Arab Christian community has found a home in Palestine since the time of Christ alongside Jews and later Muslims for well over a thousand years. Christians in the US are supporting a state that persecutes Christians and drives them out of their ancestral homes--at the expense of billions of dollars of US taxpayers' money of course. Something desperately needs to be done to break this awful and inherently heretical alliance if the US wants to regain some prestige in the international community because of the widespread animosity it brings because of its unilateral support of Israel. This book is not perfect (for example it compares supporters of Israel like Jerry Falwell to much more radical right wingers like neo-Nazis, the KKK and Christian Identity sects) but it does offer an important perspective into this critical but ignored political/religious issue.

1 out of 5 stars Forcing oneýs Credulity.......2004-05-16

This book is certainly a mixed bag; unfortunately it is more hyperbole and propaganda than a thoroughly researched tome. The book also suffers from a being rather unorganized and incredibly short. It seems to me that the author has attempted to immolate the world of 3 second sound bites rather than dive deeply into any of the subjects that have been presented.

Ms. Halsell is obviously ideologically attached to her position, therefore there is no in depth analysis of the other side. For anybody who is remotely aware of the history of Israel and the Palestinians it can become downright painful to read the propaganda that she spews forth. For example, for her to get a `true' history of the Palestinians she did NOT spend time in the library researching, nor did the author even speak to the acclaimed historians on both sides, instead she simply found a devout Arab Muslim and garnered all of her historical perspective from him (Chapter 8). WOW that's unbiased isn't it!

Another example of this reporting is how she exposes Jerry Falwell's theology. Does she interview him? NO! Does she study his writings and teachings? NO! Does she do anything that a respective unbiased reporter would do? NO! Instead she proudly gets all the information from 3 individuals who are rank and file followers of Mr. Falwell.

But is this book all bad, No, as with most cases of propaganda there is some truth mixed in with the lies. For example the author is correct in stating that dispensationalism is a recent invention. But she is in major error when labels it a cult. Dispensationalism, which I disagree with, does not in any way reach the sociological or psychological definition of a cult. In order for her to link them to a cult status she mentions the likes of Jim Jones or leaders of the "Branch Davidians" or "Heaven's Gate," who led followers to death declaring the end is near. The only problem with this analogy is none of these cultic leaders were dispensationalists. She is also either, intentionally or in ignorance, mentions Christian teachers who are not dispensationalists and tries to lump them in with dispensationalists.

For Christians who take their bible seriously there is no doubt that Jesus will come again for the saints on the earth. There is also no question that there will be a tribulation or that there will be one final battle. Ms Halsell's seems to question all of these ideas which are really not in question to serious biblical scholars. What is in question is will the rapture occur BEFORE, DURING or at the END of the tribulation. That is the question.

The only reason this book seems to have been written is to enforce the author's thoroughly anti-Israel, anti-Semitic, anti-Christian bias. It would seem to me that the author is so open-minded to the ideas of the terrorists of Palestine that her brains have fallen out. Give this book a pass.
