Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Customer Reviews:
An excellent mix of traditional favorites and more contemporary songs and choruses!.......2007-01-04
Though inexpensive, this "song book" is surprisingly high quality. With over 1000 songs, choruses and readings, this book has thin pages but is highly readable. The print is dark and the paper is very bright, making the music comfortable to read even for poorer eyes in less than perfect lighting. The title indicates that this is not a traditional hymnal, but traditional hymns abound. Some have been shortened by eliminating a verse, etc., but all is tastefully done. Arrangements are not strained, but some are new and fresh. This book will broaden your musical selections, and variety without entering into doubtful doctrinal territory. Of particular interest, is the arrangement of songs into meddlies with readings to re-enforce the themes, and scripture references for every hymn and song. As a bonus, this book serves well if your church employes the use of quartet or ensemble singing.

Book Description
In this rich exploration of music, authors Don and Emily Saliers interweave their own stories as well as those of others to reflect on the what, the how, and the why of music as a key aspect of spirituality in our lives. As an Indigo Girl, folk-rock singer-songwriter, Emily performs in primarily secular settings, while her father, Don - composer, cantor, and church musician - writes and arranges for church congregations. Their audiences may differ but both father and daughter understand the profound spirituality of music and have personally witnessed how their music brings healing to people no matter what the setting or circumstance. A Song to Sing, A Life to Live bridges two generations, two approaches to spirituality, and two genres of music - the music of Saturday night and Sunday morning. Don and Emily Saliers reflect on such topics as music and justice, music and grief, music and delight, and music and hope. They open the way for those who seek to embrace new spiritual practices by creating music, sharing music, and developing their musical skills as a spiritual practice.
Customer Reviews:
the role of music in spirituality.......2007-08-16
Authors Don and Emily Saliers, father and daughter, write from very different but equally fascinating places. He is a noted church musician and composer and university professor at a major Protestant divinity school; she has left behind her traditional church upbringing and practice and now writes music and performs as part of the maverick singing group Indigo Girls which has been around for nearly 2 decades. If you are a church musician this book will especially speak to you I think. If you're not -- and I'm not -- many of the sections written by Don may leave you confused. At least that was the impact on me. Consequently, I wasn't able to connect to his spirituality in the way I'd expected, despite my longtime church background. Emily's contributions to the book, in which I was especially interested because of Indigo Girls' social justice activism, were far fewer up to the point, about half way through the book, where I finally quit reading. I was just plain bored, and I realized I'd been skimming through pages, hoping for but finding nothing that really touched or inspired me. I felt I was reading a college textbook. There was an emotional distance that seemed odd to me for a book about spirituality. Or maybe it really is a book about music, and I'm not a musician, though I love music and it is the source of my greatest spiritual growth and comfort. Because I admire both Emily and Don Saliers so much, I keep thinking it must be me that's the problem where this book is concerned. Maybe so. Maybe no. But I never finished it.
Music as affirmation.......2006-11-04
This book supports what many of us have long felt: that music is perhaps the best medium to express joy and affirmation of life. The thoughts and experiences of this father-daughter pair, one a church musician and the other a popular performer, resonate with those of us who are neither, but who love to sing and/or listen to and/or play music. Sometimes the prose gets repetitive, but it's always clear. You'll find yourself nodding vigorously, and probably smiling too, throughout.
Well Written and a Must for Fans!.......2005-06-16
I thoroughly enjoyed this book since I am an Indigo Girls fan-particularly of Emily's song writing. This book is about tolerance of all music and how it affects just about all that we do. It talks about some of the stories behind Emily's song lyrics which I find fascinating, but also gives a great history behind many of the hymns that her father plays in their church. I would have liked to have seen Emily mention her mother and her impact on her song writing, but overall...the language and the ideas expressed in this book are beautiful and wonderful. I was sent this book as a gift, and it truly was. What a delightful treat to read.
Spiritually Uplifting.......2005-02-06
Can't get that song out of your head? Neither can they. In their new book "A Song to Sing, A Life to Live" Don Saliers, renowned professor of theology at Emory, and his daughter Emily Saliers, Grammy award winning singer/songwriter of the Indigo Girls, sing in harmony the praises of music and its connection to the soul. They remind us that it is music which generates the vibrating strings of energy connecting us to all living things. Their discussions of how music helps to shape us by connecting us to memories, people, places, and the Divine Source is both uplifting and inspirational. Both Don and Emily provide insights into how music has inspired them and directed their lives not only on a path of self-discovery, but a path of discovering the world around them; a world made visible only through music. This book will make you stop and look at the music you enjoy in a different light. I was deeply moved by the story of a young girl, Sarah, on her death bed waiting to hear Emily, and Indigo Girls partner Amy Ray, sing Emily's "Southland in the Springtime"; dying only hours after the duo finished their song. It made me question why even in death we long to fill our soul with our favorite music, but as Don and Emily point out, the cycle of life moves to music. They remind us that we cannot escape the rhythms with which daily life moves; whether it is the bustle of traffic, the roar of the ocean, or the singing of the birds. Our own bodies would not exist without the heart's intricate beating and the exact rhythm of our breathing. In essence, we are born in rhythm and die in song. I highly recommend this book as a primer in understanding the connection between music and the soul. This book is enlightening, uplifting, and fun. As an added bonus you'll also be treated to the personal stories and anecdotes of Don and Emily's encounters with music. Thank you Don and Emily for your courage and openness. Rock on!

Touching and warm.......2007-01-29
This was a choice of my Book Club. Some had read others by Bret Lott. I enjoyed the book and would recomment it to others. A wonderfully touching story of love and loss with new beginnings.
Boring.......2007-01-21
I was drawn to this book by the story line and because it began in Western Massachusetts which I am very familar with. I found this book difficult to even finish. I thought it was boring and sappy. The idea of moving among people who you only exchange Christmas cards with each year and they greet you open armed and rearrange their lives for your convenience is pretty far fetched. This is definitely going in the donation pile.
An Old Testament story placed in a contemporary setting that tells the story of grief and healing.......2005-08-03
For those who love beautiful writing and a quiet read, Bret Lott's A SONG I KNEW BY HEART, a tender contemporary retelling of the biblical Ruth and Naomi story, is a competent exploration of grief and healing.
Lott's narrative opens as Ruth loses her husband in a terrible accident. Her mother-in-law, Naomi, a widow whose husband died eight years before, is plunged into renewed grief (the song she knows by heart). Throughout the book, Lott uses the image of light and darkness to illustrate deeper meanings. As the two inconsolable widows wait for morning together, "Shadows outside eased and shifted, made way for new shadows, all of this movement only the empty fruit of that faithless sun." Later, as Ruth and Naomi try to do ordinary things, such as see a movie, they find it devastating, "like sitting in the dark and watching a life played out just beyond your reach, that life your own."
Seeking healing from her pain, Naomi declares her intention to go back home to South Carolina, "called by the force of whatever mystery the place I'd once called home and would call home again held out to me." As readers of scripture will quickly guess, Ruth vows to go with her. After a yard sale where the women divest themselves of almost everything, they journey back to Naomi's childhood region.
Other themes unfold. Naomi grieves over a secret from her past for which she is unable to forgive someone --- and herself. She finds the area she was nostalgic for from her childhood is not as she recalled it. Now, there are satellite dishes, video stores, tattoo parlors, sushi bars, Taco Bells. "Time moved, whether you liked it or not." Naomi also realizes she is not the same person she once was in this place. She has run, but "I hadn't run from me. I'd only run from our home, and from the death of our son, and from God for having taken from me the last evidence of the love Eli and I shared," reflects Naomi.
Things have changed. Yet, "It's still beautiful here," Ruth tells her. "The light is just like you said it would be." It is the light --- and descriptions of the light --- that serve as a reminder by Lott that God can pierce the darkness of grief by his love and grace. "Still He was with me," says Naomi.
Readers will enjoy how Lott adapts the Old Testament story to a contemporary setting. Ruth gets a job as a checker at the Piggly Wiggly grocery store, then finds a better one as a shift supervisor at a Harris Teeter. Naomi finds some peace in returning to her family, full of interesting characters, and Ruth finds a welcome as well. A quilt serves as a symbol of the relationships left behind, and the possibilities for mending their lives. When Ruth falls in love with a fireman, the quilt becomes the proverbial blessing/covering passed on by Naomi for their new relationship.
Although readers have criticized Lott for choosing style over plot substance in A SONG I KNEW BY HEART, the joy of this book is exactly that --- in how Lott can take a familiar subject (both the biblical account and the loss of a loved one) and make it sing. Of his early Oprah-pick novel, JEWEL, the Boston Globe noted, "Bret Lott has a gift for making the ordinary seem luminous." This gift is in full evidence here, as Lott illuminates the ordinary landscape of grief and reminds us that light always overcomes the darkness.

Tedious at best.......2005-07-19
I recommended this read for a summer reading group at my church. What a disappointment. I felt like the author was patronizing in his tone as he OVER explained everything, even down to the coffee cup stain in the sink??? Additionally, I was very disappointed at his liberty taken in the characters. Although fiction, if you introduce a book to follow a Bible story, you should try to retain the integrity of the story. This was not done. Arduous, boring, unnecessary writing. So sad too, because Ruth and Naomi is one of my favorite stories in the Bible. Poor choice in reading.
About Going On!.......2005-06-22
We come upon a woman named Ruth who tragically, in a moment of time, is now a widow. Losing her husband to a senseless car accident, she clings to the one person she knows understands,Naomi, her mother-in-law.
Naomi lost her own husband a mere 8 years ago and for her life has never been the same. Now she must face another loss. Perhaps burdened with too much grief, too much to bear, she searches inside herself for some form of peace and comfort.
We travel with them as they try to make sense of what is left of their lives, try not to be bitter at what seems so unfair and desperately cling to small fibers of what they can find is good.
Naomi decides to return to her childhood home in South Carolina and Ruth decides to go with her. To Naomi this place holds memories of love, of happiness and of hope. It is here that these two women are finally able to be set free from the clutches of pain and sorrow and perhaps understand the motion of what we call life.
A moving story of raw emotion, of two women, a story of death and living again.

My playing does not torture my family anymore and I even am playing the simple cords provided. The choice of music is varied and broken into six sections: Hits Forever and Ever; The Great Show Tunes; Great Film Memories; Looking Way Back; Inspirational, Country & Folk; and Songs for Celebrations.
I have played and sung songs from every category. I am a good singer, but rarely sing alone unless someone is accompanying me. Now I accompany myself and a whole new world has opened up for me. The jury is still out with my family, but, as I get better at playing, they'll start to come around. After all, isn't live music in a home a wonderful thing?
There aren't many songs I don't know and I find myself playing and singing one song after another when for years all I could play by heart were a few old standards. Now I can play dozens of songs. I am in love with this book and want to know where I can order other song books by The Readers Digest and William L. Simon.
This is a wonderful book with songs we all love to sing........1998-01-27
I was so delighted with this book when I sat down at the piano and was able to play the easy versions of songs that are from my past--even "Bringing in the Sheaves" and "Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam" were songs from my childhood that brought a smile to my face and joy to my heart.

Family Sonbook of Faith and Joy.......2006-06-03
I purchased this book on May 22, 2006 from Floridabooks.com. It was listed as NEW. It is NOT NEW. There are pencil notations on some of the songs. It is in good condition for a used book, but it is Not new. I did receive the book promptly, but it is obvious that the book had been used. It had been taken care of but I feel that I was misled. I paid a higher price thinking that I would get a NEW book.

Book was missing several pages. Missing pages were not indicated in the listing. Buyer beware of transactions for used items on this web site. eBay has better selections.

Excellent material to be used with our churches' youth. Learn how to use positively bands like Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins, Madonna, Van Halen, Poison, Crash Test Dummies, and others, in order to spread God's message of justice, love, equality and true Christian life with meaning.
Customer Reviews:
This book is BORING.......2007-03-15
I purchased this book because it was recommended by the home school curriculum I was using as additional reading material. I was very disappointed with this book - it is plain boring. I did not see its value or its relevance to the curriculum we were studying. It is not something my kids would read again and again - I could barely get them to sit through it once.

Let the reason be love.......2004-01-10
the insight into merrill life was, joyful sad and funny.the tears fell when i read that he was suffering from feelings of loneliness, and his illness he was suffering from. But he made me laugh when he mentioned something that happened between him and wayne. you really must read it to find out what happened.you will get a good insight into what a wonderful person he really is.I don't say this just because i am a freind of his but because it,s a truly wonderful book.
Straight From the Heart.......2003-12-16
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I found it uplifting and refreshing. I couldn't put it down and I know it will be one that I will re-read again. Far from being preachy, Merrill relates his life experiences and spiritual reflections in a deep yet simple manner as it pertains to every day life. Thank you for this book Merrill! It is inspiring and worth the ten years it took to bring it about.
Good News for all believers.......2003-11-04
This book does not deliver, or promise to deliver chronological or sensational information about the lives of the Osmond family. What it does do is explore several aspects of Merrill's life and how he dealt with them to become closer to God and feel His love. For those who believe, of any faith, it is a testament and a validation. For those interested in the Osmond family, it provides gripping, moving, and humorous stories. And for truth-seekers everywhere, it provides the best reason of all to keep going: love of God.
Sugar Coated Gobbledy Gook.......2003-09-03
I should have known better. I was expecting an honest and forthright book outlining the real story behind the Osmond family and their struggles. All this book is is an attempt to further promote their religious faith. Hardly worth the paper it is written on. I read not even half of it and had to close the pages. I rated it one out of sympathy.
From Merrill's Heart to Ours.......2003-05-04
What the book may lack in length and continuity is made up by Merrill's heart-felt desire to share the Source of his faith and strength with us.
If you have read Donny and/or Marie's books, then Merrill's honesty in sharing difficult and even dark experiences will come as no surprise. If you have not, then you may find it hard to believe that behind that smiling family exterior were some challenges that some fans might find hard to believe.
Yet, the book is not a tell-all expose. Rather, it is a testament to the love of our Heavenly Father for each one of us, even in times of our greatest despair.
