Book Description
This richly illustrated and superbly organized text/atlas is the first volume of the new Diagnostic and Surgical Imaging Anatomy series produced by the innovative medical information systems provider Amirsys(R). Written by the preeminent authorities in each radiologic subspecialty, these volumes will give radiologists a thorough understanding of the detailed anatomy that underlies contemporary imaging. Each volume features over 2,500 high-resolution 3T MRI and multidetector row CT images in many planes, combined with over 300 correlative full-color anatomic drawings that show human anatomy in the projections radiologists use. Succinct, bulleted text accompanying the images identifies the clinical and pathologic entities in each anatomic area.
Customer Reviews:
The best imaging anatomy texts - bar none!.......2007-09-22
This series of anatomy texts has no peer. Each section outlines the key facts, presents superbly executed graphics in explanation, then proceeds to meticulously demonstrate the fine details and subtleties of imaging anatomy using well-labelled and captioned images from every imaging modality ---from plain radiographs through ultrasound, CT, MR, scintigraphy, and even PET.
Admittedly the three volumes will set you back nearly a $1,000 if you get the e-book option (very worthwhile to avoid lugging the set back and forth from home to work), but nothing else comes close to such completeness and quality.
Radiology textbook review........2007-03-27
This is one of the best Radiology textbooks I have ever seen. It is brilliant!
The ideal book for a practicing radiologist, resident, fellow or surgeon........2006-11-08
This book is exceptional. The cross-sectional CT, MR, and volume rendered images are great! Structures are clearly, but unobtrusively labeled. Probably the best quality of this book is its repetitive nature. The reader is presented with multiple similar (though not identical) images of the same structure from different vantage points, throughout the book- quite helpful when one tries to integrate 2 dimensional data into a 3D frame of reference. I'm glad that I bought it and I would do so again. I believe in full disclosure- the only slight disadvantage is the cost, which is fairly pricey- but I believe it was DEFINITELY worth it. While Netter's work can never be duplicated, this book surpasses what a radiologist can glean from a basic anatomy book.
Just what I needed!.......2006-07-29
At last a text with up to date radiological anatomy of the head and neck. We all know that this is potentially the most challenging area to interpret and none of the standard texts to date are equal to demonstrating the level of exquisite detail obtained by modern imaging techniques. The radiological images and the illustrative drawings are excellent and the organization correlates well with the problems likely to be found in radiological practice.
Book Description
This book provides all the information necessary to perform today's full range of image-guided interventional procedures for the alleviation of spine and back pain. Coverage includes important techniques such as facet joint and sacroiliac joint injections, vertebroplasty, discography, and intradiscal electrothermal therapy (IDET).
Customer Reviews:
Clearly Written, Excellent Text.......2007-10-06
All medical texts should be this good. Each topic is discussed thoroughly, in understandable language. Jargon is held to a minimum. The illustrations, radiographs and photographs are clear, and on the appropriate page (something a LOT of texts don't seem capable of achieving), Highly recommended.
Much more than pictures.......2007-07-13
This book includes lots and lots of extremely useful pictures, AND is a precise and complete "how-to" guide. It is also easy to use and pleasant to read. It is my best buy in the field, confirmed by more experienced practicioners.
The best .......2006-08-07
I am a physician in Brazil and I consider this book the best in this specialty.
Geat Resource on the Subject........2005-07-02
This book offers insight to pain managment and lay out of patient procedures and functional use for pain controll. Highly recommend for students and doctors a like. Need strong medical back ground for the latter chapters, a good refernce for boards and residence programs.
Great book.......2004-01-22
I have recently received my book and am thrilled. I have seen it at several pain meetings, but hadn't pulled the trigger on which pain book would give me my most bang for the book (Waldman, Raj, etc.). Image-Guided Spine Intervention is an excellent book and accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do, that is being a "how-to" book with superb imaging. In fact, I have yet to see a book that has more clear images than this book. While there are a few things that are missing in this book (discographic manometry, kyphoplasty-although the book came out just as this was emerging), all in the book is well worth the price. Reading Dr. Petersohn's commentary I wonder if we received the same book. The book is a "how-to" book and therefore is not intended to give clinical algorithms, although I admit it would make it an even more comprehensive book. The authors made the patient positioning understandable by referring to the projection with relation to the patient as opposed to the direction of the x-ray beam, which can be confusing. Perhaps in future editions, both positioning techniques can be given. With cervical transforaminal injections, one does not need a limiting AP projection to make sure one does not have cord or subdural penetration. If you follow their positioning and technique and intentionally hit the superior articular process, then walk a few mm anteriorly, you will necessarily be in the correct position, which is confirmed with contrast. For thoracic facet injections, previous reports including Dreyfuss demonstrate that one needs to start well inferior to the facet joint and angle cephalad in order to enter the coronally oriented thoracic facets. This book describes a technique, which demonstrates that this does not need to be done and that one can take a straight AP approach (proven with a CT injection) and still get the contrast into the entire joint. Dr. Chua's thoracic medial branch anatomy was just published this last year and post-dates this book. I agree there is no reason to give steroid after a facet denervation. The chapter on pharmacology was adequate for all pain practitioners. The book never sets out to be something to study for the boards. The statement "may be appropropriate for radiologists or physiatrists" sounds fairly hostile as well. As for discography, their approach to lumbar discography is reasonable. NASS and ISIS are only GUIDELINES not standards and there is no proof that there is an increased infection rate with single STYLETTED needle discography vs. double needle technique. They do not complain about L5-S1 access, rather that it is more difficult and that double-needle technique is often unnecessary. It makes sense to perform discography with a single needle since the new intradiscal procedures are performed that way. The authors do not list "pseudoarthrosis" as a contraindication to discography, but do list a solid posterolateral bone fusion as one due to lack of access.
I, too, am looking forward to a second edition that may have more clinical algorithms; more interventional techniques and those things that the authors may find have changed or should be improved on. However, I think this book is an excellent first attempt and is a much-needed book no matter who wrote it.

Great Work.......2006-05-10
I love the illustrations in the text
Discussions are also fairly good
But it will be nicer if the price were a little cheaper
Good Resource.......2005-07-02
This book is a handy book for students and doctors a like on the subject of spinal pain and related symptoms assocaited with the spine. Detail chapters on imaging and cause and effect of spinal conditions and Dx process. Book Description
Diagnostic neuroradiology is undergoing such rapid change that standard texts are quickly becoming outdated in important respects. Recent Advances in Diagnostic Neuroradiology is designed to complement the general textbooks of neuroradiology by documenting and discussing the progress that has been achieved. Following six introductory chapters, 26 important topics in brain and spinal imaging are discussed in detail, with appropriate illustrations and a review of the most recent literature. Each of these topics has specifically been chosen in order to summarize recent developments and to document the state of the art in the field. This book, written by acknowledged experts in the field, will be of relevance and importance to all with an interest in neuroradiology.
Book Description
The first of a two-volume set which identifies the anatomical details visualized in the sectional imaging modalities. As a comprehensive reference, it is an aid when interpreting images: schematic drawings of the highest didactic quality are clearly juxtaposed with the CT and MRI images; anatomic structures are color-coded in the drawings to facilitate identification.
In this updated second edition, photos have been replaced with better quality substitutes, coronal images for MRI have been added, and cerebral vasculature is now included.
Customer Reviews:
Pocket Atlas of Sectional Anatomy.......2006-11-04
An excellent pocketbook review of anatomy to use in studying for Boards or CT exams!
Anatomic atlas for body imaging.......2006-03-21
Organized into chest, abdomen, pelvis and MR angiography of the lower extremity, this book is excellent in junior residents to learn multiplanar anatomy. The MR images are T1 weighted with schematics of normal anatomy and quality is excellent. CT images are provided in the axial plane are equally good. Also covered is basic MR angiography of the chest, abdomen, and lower extremities.
This book is a worthwhile investment for those considering anatomic atlases for a nominal cost. Highly recommend this book.

Customer Reviews:
Great neuroradiology book.......2007-05-21
This is an essential texbook. While today most texbooks tend to become atlases of images that contain very little written information, this one manages to be very well written and contain a lot of information in addition to having very nice images. While it was sometimes difficult to find a difference between the second and first editions, this work has now had quite an overhaul. It might not be ultra-new but it is very nice. It has been expanded to two volumes. It also conbtains a very nice and extensive section on the spine which was one of the main weaknesses of the book by Anne Osborne. this is clearly superior even if it lacks the wonderful tables of that other book. SAome of the more basic chapters may be somewhat complex but they can be easily skipped in favour of the great clinical content.
Not worth the money........2004-06-04
Both poorly written and edited. Pictures are poor quality. Too much basic science and not enough clinical application. Overall, good for Ph.Ds, not physicians. Far superior books available for radiologists and radiologists in training at cheaper price.
readable and concise.......2003-07-28
Complete well organized text. Very readable with the exception of the sections on MRI physics (a little too much "high-level", mathematical physics for the everyday neuroradiologist). Good quality images and pathological correlation. Overall, very good reference text that is not too overly and unnecessarily encyclopedic and exhausting to read.
State of the Art.......2002-10-29
Scott Atlas' book is THE reference text of choice for neuroradiologists and other neuroimagers. There simply is no other neuroradiology text that approaches the depth, quality, and timeliness of imaging and pathological information provided in this text. The MR physics discussions are unparalleled, as well. Other less exhaustive neuroradiology texts might be more appropriate for radiology residents, but this is the text that Neuroradiology fellows and attendings should be referring to. Bravo.
