Book Description
Fueled by anger at the death of his two brothers in World War I, 16-year-old Edward abandons his ailing father on their farm and leaves Canada to enlist. After proving that he can tame any wild horse, he's is sent to Jordan to fight with the Cavalry.
Luckily, his horse is the extraordinary Buke; in battle, a trooper's horse is the key to life and death, and his true companion. In the harsh desert, Edward is grateful for the camaraderie of his tent mates, Cheevers and Blackburn, and letters from Emily, a nurse he met at base camp. As they close in on the enemy Edward finds that the glory and noble vengeance he seeks is replaced by the horror of war and the realization that he must fight not only to survive, but also, to kill.

Historical fiction at its finest.......2007-07-30
Arthur Slade dedicates this novel to the memory of the five Slade men who served in World War I, his great grandfather, grandfather and great uncles. The dates of the youngest one jump out at the reader, "Private Percy James Slade, 1897-1918 (KIA.)
If my memory serves, I do not think there is a village or town in France and England that does not have a memorial to the fallen of The Great War. World War I does not loom as large in the memory of Americans. In Megiddo's Shadow, Slade takes the reader to a lesser known front of that war, to Palestine in the Middle East.
Sixteen-year-old Edward Bathe leaves his farm in Saskatchewan, Canada and joins the army after receiving the news that his beloved older brother Hector has been killed in France. All he wants to do is get to the front and kill the Hun who took his brother's life but upon arrival in England he is transfered to the Fifth Imperial Remount unit to break horses. He chafes at the assignment but does meet a horse who will be part of his future when he is reassigned to the Lincolnshire Yeomanry. Slade describes the role of these units on his website :
"Yeomanry were different than cavalry--they were trained to be foot soldiers and mounted soldiers. The idea was that they could ride quickly to their destination and dismount and fight. Or they could charge. They were even taught to get their horses to lay down, so they could use them as cover. The regiment was also trained to use the sword or lance in a charge."
Edward and his horse, Buke become part of the British Expeditionary Force in Palestine. The description of desert warfare is unforgettable.
"A month later, in July, I was sent to hell...
...We fed and watered our horses, working through the night because the day would be too hot for us to lift a finger. As the sun rose, it revealed a desolation only the Devil could've dreamed up: a low, flat valley of white marl and salt, spotted with swamp, stony plain, patches of dense scrub, and a thin layer of dry grass. The land had never know rain. Lumps of dried flesh--dead camels--lay here and there as though dropped from the sky, a sky that had never seen a cloud. A hot breath of wind drove the salty dust into my eyes. Occasionally, a thirteen-pounder gun would roar just to let the Turks know that His Majesty's troops were still here."
Very much a classic boy-goes-to-war novel in the tradition of The Red Badge of Courage (Tor Classics), All Quiet on the Western Front or Fallen Angels, Edward experiences the comradeship of soldiers, a first love and the grim reality of warfare. He faces the loss of those he loves and his faith in God as he struggles to find meaning and survive.
Slade relates his grandfather and great uncles' true stories on his website. They are as gripping and heartfelt as the novel and are very much the inspiration for this book. The letter Edward and his father receive about Hector is taken almost verbatim from the real letter the Slade family received about Percy Slade.
Moving, emotional and wrenching at times, this is historical fiction at its finest. I will be reading more of Arthur Slade's writing in the future.
A well told story for any age.......2007-01-22
A sobering story, well told. It follows the journey of 16 year old Edward Bathe, from the Canadian prairie, who joins the army to fight the Huns in France in 1917. Instead, he finds himself in the cavalry on his way to the Middle East. The story is well researched, full of details about army life, and also chronicles the emotional turmoil and growth of Edward. There are a few twists in the story and Slade's writing propels the reader forward. While intended for the young reader, Megiddo's Shadow was very much enjoyed by this 'mature adult'.

eh..........2006-10-22
i remember reading the novel several years ago, but didnt remember specifics. i picked up a used copy of the graphic novel, and was left disappointed...the story line was very quick and choppy. princess leia's scenes with Xixor were almost laughable. the style of art and drawing didnt appeal to me at all and the colors just weren't vivid. the Swoop gangs felt very out of place and Jabba was out of character. the redeeming value was the prescence of Fett, whose part in the novel could've probably filled out the entire graphic novel. i can't wait for Dark Horse's Fett collection to come out next year.
Above-Average.......2005-12-09
A decent graphic novel. Has pretty good art, the storyline was ok, but what really ruined this for me was the unrealistic-ness. If you thought Empire vol. 1: Betrayal had cheesy dialogue by Vader, you'd hate this. Vader also seemed to be acting like a disobient 2 year old, never listening to anyone. What I also found annoying was the fact that the characters all seemed to be constantly talking to themselves. Boba Fett isn't his usual quiet, calculated self in this book. He was always taunting others and talking to himself as he tried to escape what seemed like an entire galaxy chasing him. Possibly the only cool characters in this were Luke and Dash Rendar. I've definitely read better.
Meh........2005-08-20
The novelization was much better. I did however love the Boba fett plot that was added, as well as the artists renditions of Leia and Fett. Absolutly amazing.
However it just didnt have the power of others ive read. 3 stars
Very good book........2004-09-13
I read this book in 2 hours and do not regret it. It was definetely worth the $10 I paid for it. It gets a little confusiing at times, but you just gotta keep reading it. Now you can find out when and where Luke constructed his new lightsaber, and much more. If you are a star wars fan, you won't regret it, if your not, you probaly won't have any idea whats going on.
Luke takes out Vader Enemy.......2003-07-24
This is a review of Shadow of the Empire which is available as a hard cover book of 340 (ISBN 0553574132) pages, a comic (isbn 1569711836), a novelization of 176 pages (isbn 044013036) and audio cassette (isbn 0553100890). This story tales places between ESB and ROTJ. I always felt it was one of the more important stories of the Expanded Universe given that Xizor became an action figure as did Dash Render and his ship (Outrider). The whole gang is in this one even Han, though is encased in carbonite. We get Vader, the emperor, Fett, Guri, Boosk, 4-Lom, Jabba, Zuckuss and Wedge along with the regular gang of heroes.
Apparently Dark horse did have available any pictures of Lando or Leia because the artists did a lousy job of drawing them. Most of the time Luke was OK, but sometimes he looked like Jessica Lynch. They did do a great job drawing Fett, Vader and dash however.
Everyone is searching for Han, but he has not be taken directly to Jabba. Xizor has risen to lead Black Sun which has thrived since Darth Maul wiped out the old leadership. His newest ambition is to replace Vader as #2 in the empire. Xizor orders Luke killed knowing that Vader wants him alive. Then Xizor captured Leia.
This is one of my favorite of all the EU stories. Steve Perry has created a new and exciting Journey. The novel is 4 stars and the comic is 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4. Considering that Dark horse released this in 1997 before some of their awesome new production techniques, this is a very well done comic. The abridged audio cassette is good quality, but at on 2 ½ hours to much is cut.

My Grandkids Loved This Book!.......2006-12-19
Once again, author Ellen Feld relates a wonderful story. My grandchildren are 6 and 8, have their own horse, and were totally enthralled with the little Morgan foal "Shadow" and her escapades. The writing is large and easy for young readers to read and the illustrations are colorful and eye catching. A must have for every child in this age group!

We Love Frosty........2006-12-18
My grandchildren love this book. The illustrations are beautiful, the story wonderful. This is a great book for parents (or grandparents) to read to 4- 6 year old children, and it's also a great read for 7 and 8 year olds on their own. Short sentences and paragraphs hold the children's attention, and the story is delightful. A great buy!
A delightful story for girls who loves horses.......2006-12-18
Reviewed by Stephanie Rollins for Reader Views (11/06)
"Shadow: The Curious Morgan Horse" by Ellen F. Feld is one in the "Morgan Horse Series." Jeanne Mellin lends her artistic talent in the illustrations. I read this book to my three-year-old daughter and one-year-old son. My son does not show any signs of an attention span yet, but my daughter sat through three pages of it. She then grabbed it from me, so that she may explain the illustrations to me.
"Shadow: The Curious Morgan Horse" is a story of a young horse, Shadow, who wants to see the world beyond the pasture. When a tree falls on the fence, Shadow seizes the moment and crosses into the woods. After realizing the woods are not that exciting, Shadow wants to go back to the pasture for familiarity and family. It is a classic case of "The grass is greener on the other side."
I asked my nine-year-old son read it. It did not interest him. He is not interested in horses, though. I believe girls in the third and fourth grades would enjoy it. The word "mother" is used often in the book. I had to replace it with "Mommy" for my young ones.
If you happen to know a young girl who enjoys horses, "Shadow: The Curious Morgan Horse," will be treasured. The font is large, and the illustrations are eye-catching. Ellen F. Field also has written four other books in the series about Morgan horses.

It should have ended with Walter Farley.......2006-04-10
Being an avid equestrienne, when I was a child I always loved reading The Black Stallion books. I loved the way Farley developed the relationship between Alec and the Black, loved the dramatic plots and loved the exciting races.
Steven Farley isn't his dad. One thing I always had a problem with in this series was the way the characters never seemed to really grow older, except maybe when Alec meets Pam. But in this book, Steven claims that Black is 8 years old. WHAT?? The Black must've been between 4 and 6 years old when he and Alec were deserted on the island in the first book, and since then he's sired at least three horses, all of whom are are adult racers now. Satan won the Triple Crown, and the only horses who race in at the Belmont, Preakness and Kentucky Derby are 3-year olds. When Satan's a little older, his sister turns three and races in the Kentucky Derby. Black should have been long retired by then, and I always found it troubling that time and again Farley Sr. pulled him out to race this horse and that horse when he's about 10 or 11 years old. Maybe older.
Steven Farley goes even further, pitting the black stallion against a two-year old. A two-year old!! Not only is that absolutely ridiculous, but even racehorses don't start racing at two, although they do undergo vigorous training at that age (which is actually wrong - a horse's body is still developing until it turns four, but racehorses start training and racing early). However, two-year olds do not race aged stallions (coughNOT8-years-oldcough) Steven Farley doesn't bother to really describe the race with the sort of vivid imagery and suspense-building language that his father used, and it's quite clear that he's rather ignorant of the rules of horse racing.
And whatever aging and development we could have at least imagined in the original series concerning Alec Ramsey is gone in this book, with Steven specifically referring to Alec as a "kid". I mean, do these people have absolutely no sense of logic whatsoever? The Black has three offspring, two colts and a filly, who grow up over several years, race, and have their own foals. And all this time Alec remains a young boy, and the Black a stallion in his prime? I think NOT. I can't believe that such a major flaw was so carelessly overlooked.
And at the end of the day, a series needs to have some closure. It would have been better if the original series showed the boy and his horse grow up together, and for the legacy of the black stallion to be carried on in his heirs. End of story. These new books lack the tone and the depth of the original stories. Alec's and the Black's bond doesn't have that profound depth that Farley Sr. so subtly portrayed. In any case, real fans of the books don't consider Steven Farley's books canon, even if Farley Sr. chose him to continue the stories. We simply cannot have the story of this horse carried on forever until the spirit of the series is ruined and becomes nothing but a nostalgic curiousity, like what happened with the Animorphs.
Steven Farley doesn't write with the vivid imagery and powerful language of his father, nor does he seem to capture the essence of the series. It's not really his fault I guess - a book or a series of books belong to the person who wrote them. It's always a bad idea for someone new to carry on a classic story - look what happened when Alexandra Ripley decided that she could write a sequel to 'Gone With the Wind'. If Steven Farley had completely left the stories of the Black Stallion alone (and I'm including 'The Young Black Stallion' spin-off series here too) and struck out on his own, he may have met with more success.
well..........2005-10-10
I haven't finished this book yet, but I can already tell it's not gonna be good. First, Steven Farley just can't write like his father. Second, he doesn't know anything about horse racing! In a big race, the America Cup, the Black's main challenger is a two-year-old colt named Ruskin. The race is a mile and a half.
Already, two problems.
1. Two year olds don't race against older horses here in America. Duh!
2. A two year old in a mile and a half race? YEAH RIGHT!
The writing was poor, and the author didn't write enough details in the race.
I'm already nearly done with the book, but I won't say any more, because all I need to say is that this book isn't worth buying.
disappointing.......2005-10-08
Walter Farley's writing progressed during the course of his original Black Stallion series. The richness and variety of language provided vivid word-pictures of the characters, surroundings, and circumstances in his books. From the racetracks of New York to the scorching Arabian sands, Farley senior took the reader with him on dangerous adventures and breathtaking race rides. His writing progressed, richened, and refined with each novel. With Alec Ramsay, the readers grew up on the back of the Black Stallion.
Then came Steven Farley. His cooperation in the Young Black Stallion with Walter indicates that the erstwhile author passed the torch to his son with blessings. Farley senior may have bequeathed the series to Steven, but he was unable to include the same literary flavor. Alec and the Black progressed from a pair of unknowns to a respected force in the racing community during the original series. "Shadow" very quickly kicks Alec back to square one in the racing community, still being called a 'kid' and angrily defending himself. Books tend to set a tone right away, and I wasn't impressed. It is impossible to separate the continuation from the original series, and therefore it is not possible to avoid comparing them. Stick with Farley senior's books. They are superior.
Not his father's Black Stallion.......2001-08-13
Like other reviewers, I am an adult returning to the ongoing Black Stallion series that I loved as a child. I'm sure Steven Farley is a good writer, but his style is not his father's and his efforts to continue the Black Stallion stories from his father should be put to rest. The violent deaths of three horses in this book are enough to halt any fan of Walter Farley's. The relationship between the Black and Alec is missing the depth and understanding that readers of the series are used to. Time to go back to the originals and leave these new stories to others less familiar with Walter Farley's work.
It's okay.......2000-05-12
I grew up reading Walter Farley's Black Stallion series. Although Steven is trying, he will never write the Black like his father did. I like how this book took Alec and the Black off of the race track and into new territory, and how the Black had to deal with his fear, making him more "real", and mortal, but it just wasn't the same. And the timing doesn't make sense. The Black is only 8 years old? I don't think so. It was exciting in spots, but the writing is too different; it doesn't feel like a "real" Black Stallion book. Maybe Steven should have just left the series alone.

This book was amazing. I started to read the first chapter and automaticlly was hooked!!! I love Shawdow Horse. Alison Hart, when does the next book come out?
THIS BOOK IS GREAT!.......2007-03-04
When I first got this book I wasn't interested. My Mom and Dad wanted
me to read the book but I kept saying no. One day my Mom said, "Just read
the first chapter." Once I starting reading it I couldn't stop because it
was so good!!!!!! This is what I have to say to Alison Hart: WRITE ANOTHER
SHADOW HORSE book!!!!!!!!!! I say this book is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!
A good mystery for any horse lover.......2007-02-03
Jas, a kind and fun loving young equestrian lover, was well aware that she had no chance winning a course case against Hugh Robicheaux. After all, he had all the money and the power. She had attacked him, and to the jury, for no apparent reason. But both Hugh and Jas know that she had all the reason in the world, he killed her horse.
Jas is sentenced to two months on house arrest at a small farm for abused animals. She knows that somehow this farm ties into the killing of her beloved horse and she is determined to find proof. Little does she know she will find all that and more! Now the only question is, can she go up against the richest guy in Virginia State, Hugh Robicheaux?
Filled with twist and turns and not to mention amazing passages "Shadow Horse" kept me reading until I turned the last page. This book is meant for younger readers and preteens,(those who are older may find it juvenile). Though the ending was somewhat of a disappointment for me the "Shadow Horse" is a great book for young horse lovers and mystery lovers alike.

a nice horse story with a lot of veterinary information.......2007-09-23
Callie McLean is a thirteen year old girl who has always dreamed of owning her own horse. She lives on a farm in Nevada with her parents, who make their money by selling vegetables, and cannot afford to buy her a horse. Callie enjoys watching the wild mustangs, especially a mare that she has named Moonbeam. When the Bureau of Land Management rounds up some of the mustangs to keep the population is check, the pregnant Moonbeam is one of the horses brought in. Unfortunately, Moonbeam dies when giving birth, and Callie devotes herself to caring for the little filly that she names Moon Shadow. Callie works day and night to help Moon Shadow survive so she can achieve her dream of finally having a horse of her own.
I am a horse lover and have always enjoyed reading horse stories. I really liked that this book included information about veterinary care, so the reader can learn about how to care for horses while they are enjoying the story It also contained information about the wild mustangs and information at the end about how you can get involved in helping the horses. My only complaint is that the story was a little predictable, but it would definitely be enjoyable for any young horse lover.
A gentle novel of compassion and forming connections.......2007-04-14
Written by Chris Platt, one of the first women jockeys in the state of Oregon, Moon Shadow is a hardcover chapter book for young adults about the bond between Callie, a thirteen-year-old girl and an orphaned wild filly, Moon Shadow. Without a mother, it's a touch-and-go issue as to whether little Moon Shadow can survive - and even if she does, Callie may not be able to adopt her. A gentle novel of compassion and forming connections, especially recommended for young horse lovers.
Callie in this book is a lot like me ... A very good book........2006-10-28
I really liked Callie, the star of this book. My Mom says she's a lot like me, strong and independent ... and just LOVES horses.
I live in an apartment so can't have a horse, but I long for the day when I might get one. Anyways, it's fun to read about them and Callie's adventures with Moon Shadow.
I really like Chris Platt's writing style and I'm going back to see if I can get a copy of any of her other books. I like the Thoroughbred Ashleigh series, so will look for the ones with her name on them.
A kid from Louisiana
Chris Platt may have been on hiatus for awhile, but she has returned with a blue-ribbon worthy equestrian novel..........2006-10-22
Thirteen-year-old Callie McLean has lived with her parents on the edge of the Nevada desert for her entire life, and would never have it any other way. For in this particular location, she has the perfect birds eye view of a herd of wild mustangs that run wild. Callie has wanted a horse of her own forever, but she knows there's a good reason why her family could never have one: there's no money. After all, Callie has to wear patched up old clothes as it is. There's absolutely no way she could expect her parents to be able to provide for a horse, as well. But Callie can dream, and she does just that. Each day, as the herd of wild mustangs comes galloping by, battling one another, or romping in the hard, compressed dirt, her eyes glaze over, and she admires their graceful movements, wishing for the day that one of those mustangs will be hers. Of course, while each animal is beautiful to her, she has her favorites: the mustang she calls Cloud Dancer, and the pregnant palomino mare who never leaves his side, Moonbeam. Callie plans on someday calling Moonbeam, and her foal, hers. But not everyone in Nevada is pleased with the intruding mustangs. In fact, many of the local ranchers complain about the wild horses. And one day, during a periodic round-up by the Bureau of Land Management, Moonbeam is brought in. After the beautiful mare dies after giving birth to her foal prematurely, Callie is heartbroken, but devotes herself to caring for the orphaned filly, now called Moon Shadow. With the little filly's health signaling very touch and go signs, Callie is unsure of whether or not her beloved Moon Shadow will find the strength to pull through. And, if she does, how she will be able to scrape together enough money, and the courage, to adopt the little foal herself.
The last time I read a book by Chris Platt, I was 12-years-old, and going through the biggest horse stage in my life, reading just about anything related to horses that I could get my hands on. At the time, it was her book WILLOW KING, which I still cherish, and have read countless times. Reading MOON SHADOW, however, brought back so many old memories, truly re-igniting my passion for horses, and leaving me craving more equine fiction. Callie is a wonderful character who is spirited and passionate. Her caring nature shines through in every page, as she nurses the weakling Moon Shadow, and tries to keep the young filly alive. Callie's mannerisms are kind, and compassionate, and any animal lover, whether they are five or fifty will find a part of themselves in Callie and vice versa. The descriptions of the Nevada plains are breathtaking. And while I, myself, have never visited Nevada, I feel as if I have been there after reading MOON SHADOW. From the vivid descriptions of the sun setting behind the mountains, to the sounds of the blue scrub jays in flight, and the wild mustangs whinnying and neighing as they galloped along the rocky dirt floor were so life-like that I felt as if I were there, lying in the grass next to Callie, as she spied upon these magnificent creatures. Chris Platt may have been on hiatus for awhile, but she has returned with a blue-ribbon worthy equestrian novel that will leave readers smiling from ear to ear.

My Dad brought this book when he took me for the weekend. He told me if I read it he would buy me a lot more. He knows I like horses. I read it and fell in love with Moon Shadow. I'm going to ask him to buy me a horse for my birthday next year.
This is a grate book and I like the way the auther describes eveything. it seems real to me.
I can't tell my name cause I'm a kid. I live in Brooklyn in the USA.

Exciting, really pulled at the heart strings.......1999-11-16
This book really showed the love Trish and her father had for each other. The way she not only had to give up her father but her beloved horse too was really almost unbarible for her, and the auther really deminstrated this by the way Trish reacted. It is trully a remarkable story of love and betral of the one person who Trish thought would always be there, God. And then how she learnd to trust him once again. I tip my hat to the auther, job well done.

Heartwarming Historical Romance.......2007-07-29
Cynthia Owens has deftly created a cast of characters--hero, heroine and secondary players, that quickly become real as she weaves her tale. Siobhan, pronounced Shivaun as the writer cleverly informs us on the first page, is a heroine worthy of the name. She's strong, loving, compassionate; not a lady born, and not perfect, but a real woman, a true heroine. Rory O'Brien is the hero, a man near suffocating from guilt, afraid to love lest he cause more deaths.
Rory returns from America where he's lived since he was eleven, his fortune made, to the village in Ireland where he was born. He goes by another name, hoping no one recognizes him, his plan to use his money to help the village, atoning for the wrongs done by his father and imagined wrongs done by himself.
Rory's past catches up with him, and Siobhan is there to guide him to the light. In the process, there are nail-biting scenes, pages read quickly to find out what's going to happen. The author has a knack for suspense and until the end, you know something bad is going to happen, but you don't know what. Very well done. I enjoyed this book very much, the suspense, the true to life cast of characters, the love and the happy ending. I think you will, too.
A Strong Irish Romance!.......2007-01-20
David Burke has a past and it's been a rough one. He used to be known in Ireland as Rory O'Brian but when he left he changed his name and began putting his life back together. But it's time to return to his homeland and face his troubled past and hopefully find the peace his soul so desperately needs. What he finds is not what he expects since a famine has left deep scars in Ballycashel. Will Ireland be the balm David needs or will it be too much for him.
Siobhan Desmond needs to find work in order to take care of her family. The famine hit them hard and when she learns a new master has returned to Ballycashel she seeks employment and instantly feels a connection to the newcomer. David seems angry yet she can see deeper into his heart and knows what he needs is a tenuous connection to something or perhaps someone. Perhaps the healing power of love will tie these two together.
Ms. Owen has penned a very romantic story demonstrating the power of love and how it can heal deep wounds not only for our protagonists, but for the village they call home as well. Ms. Owen was not afraid to add history to her writing therefore making this a well rounded read. This is one author I plan on keeping my eye on.
Captures the Heart!.......2006-12-28
In the wee town of Ballycashel, Ireland, 1850, Rory O'Brian, now known as David Burke, has returned to the site of his tortured past. Determination to right many wrongs drives him back to the people and land that once laid witness to the very things that drove him away. For years he has hidden from what happened, but now he seeks a little dram of peace for his soul and a place he can claim for himself and his daughter Kathryn.
But the town is far from over the scars cast upon it while he lived there as a boy. Still reemerging from the terrible waist of the infamous Great Famine, Ballycashel itself is in need of a healing as well. When their old master passes and this new one takes the reins, many are looking upon Burke with a knowing eye. Siobhan Desmond knows not why the brooding man attracts her so, but she feels in her heart he is a good person, despite her experiences with the old master. Like all residents of the town, her heart is still healing and she and Burke begin a tenuous dance as old as time--one of love and all the promise it holds in its grasp, if only they would seize it. Can Burke find a way back to the land that was always waiting to welcome him and let go of painful secrets? Danger is only a stones throw away and he and Siobhan will have to find a way to fight without sacrificing their hearts.
Many heartfelt sighs were wrenched from me as Burke and Siobhan's story unfurled. Author Owens pens in loving detail all that is dear to not only this couple, but the town itself as well. Their coming together is a catalyst that unwinds quickly and aids in relieving not only their minds, but the rest of the townsfolk too. The town, with all its residents, was at times like one character in itself, one that comes together to support Burke when he needs it most. But alas, his true salvation laid in Siobhan and their ability to find love once more. This was a truly enchanting tale of love lost and regained, revenge and a town saved. Bravo, Ms. Owens, for a wonderful read!

Book Description
The creators of Sunshine & Storm, praised by School Library Journal for its “outstanding artwork which reinforces the emotions expressed in the text,” surpass themselves in this magical story about a little horse who is afraid of his own shadow. The young horse Moonlight is alone in his field for the first time. As the moon rises, Moonlight sees something out of the corner of his eye...a BIG BLACK HORSE! Moonlight gallops away in fear, Shadow chases after him, growing bigger and blacker as the two horses gallop faster and faster. Exhausted, Moonlight can run no farther. He must turn and face up to his fear.
Intense watercolors portraying the little horse and his shadow in the moonlit snow give this unusual story a dream-like feel. The dramatic chase is softened by a reassuring resolution, resulting in a gentle, effective story about overcoming one’s fears. A simple, lyrical story line and wonderful washy, impressionistic animal paintings that capture the very essence of the horses will surely establish this pair as creators of compelling animal stories.
