Book Description
In one of the most anticipated books of the year, Lee Woodruff, along with her husband, Bob Woodruff, share their never-before-told story of romance, resilience, and survival following the tragedy that transformed their lives and gripped a nation.
In January 2006, the Woodruffs seemed to have it all–a happy marriage and four beautiful children. Lee was a public relations executive and Bob had just been named co-anchor of ABC’s World News Tonight. Then, while Bob was embedded with the military in Iraq, an improvised explosive device went off near the tank he was riding in. He and his cameraman, Doug Vogt, were hit, and Bob suffered a traumatic brain injury that nearly killed him.
In an Instant is the frank and compelling account of how Bob and Lee’s lives came together, were blown apart, and then were miraculously put together again–and how they persevered, with grit but also with humor, through intense trauma and fear. Here are Lee’s heartfelt memories of their courtship, their travels as Bob left a law practice behind and pursued his news career and Lee her freelance business, the glorious births of her children and the challenges of motherhood.
Bob in turn recalls the moment he caught the journalism “bug” while covering Tiananmen Square for CBS News, his love of overseas assignments and his guilt about long separations from his family, and his pride at attaining the brass ring of television news–being chosen to fill the seat of the late Peter Jennings.
And, for the first time, the Woodruffs reveal the agonizing details of Bob’s terrible injuries and his remarkable recovery. We learn that Bob’s return home was not an end to the journey but the first step into a future they have learned not to fear but to be grateful for.
In an Instant is much more than the dual memoir of love and courage. It is an important, wise, and inspiring guide to coping with tragedy–and an extraordinary drama of marriage, family, war, and nation.
A percentage of the proceeds from this book will be donated to the Bob Woodruff Family Fund for Traumatic Brain Injury.

TOTALLY ENJOYED THE CD OF THIS BOOK. A HEARTFELT STORY OF LOVE, PAIN AND RECOVERY.
Up from the trenches.......2007-09-29
This is a story of remarkable courage and love. Medicine and therapy have come a long way, but the personal strength of one person doing the hard work, and another staying by their side, is (I believe) what brings people back to a life worth living after so tremendous a trajedy. Other books about brain trauma: The Shiloh Renewal and I'll Carry the Fork! Recovering a Life After Brain Injury
One of the best books I've ever read!.......2007-09-26
What a wonderful & informative book. I really enjoyed all of the background information. It was a very touching love story. Having gone through 3 brain surgeries myself and my daughter's brain surgery also, gave me a fraction of knowledge on the recovering brain, but the book certainly gives an abundance of information. I've always thought Bob was absolutely fantastic, but I really enjoyed Lee's side of the story. Bravo and Good bless you both Bob & Lee!!!
Interesting book.......2007-09-09
Interesting book - I read it because I was curious what had happened to Bob Woodruff after his injury, because the of the lack of information regarding his condition. It is interesting to me that insiders in the media can control what information gets out about them personally; however others are not so fortunate - their names, faces and not-so-flattering images are splashed across news screens every day.
The book was interesting, but I felt that Lee Woodruff ends up protraying herself as a selfish wife who is annoyed first at her husband's career and then annoyed at the inconvenience his injury caused their family. She describes herself several times as a "single parent" because Bob travelled so much. As a real-life single parent, this completely offended me. A single parent not only cares for their children alone, they also support them alone. A single parent is not a wife of a guy with a six-figure salary who happens to work a lot. If Lee had left these comments out, the book would have been much more palatable.

This book was excellent. I thoughthly enjoyed it. My sister is not reading it.

Book Description
Legions of readers entranced by Twilight are hungry for more and they won't be disappointed. In New Moon, Stephenie Meyer delivers another irresistible combination of romance and suspense with a supernatural twist. The "star-crossed" lovers theme continues as Bella and Edward find themselves facing new obstacles, including a devastating separation, the mysterious appearance of dangerous wolves roaming the forest in Forks, a terrifying threat of revenge from a female vampire and a deliciously sinister encounter with Italy's reigning royal family of vampires, the Volturi. Passionate, riveting, and full of surprising twists and turns, this vampire love saga is well on its way to literary immortality.

Captivating.......2007-10-17
The Twighlight series is "G" rated for all ages, it is very captivating and well written. I am 33 years old, single mom and I loved it, my son who is 13 is reading it now and he loves it. I have to agree with the rating of New York's Bestseller List...this is a must read trilogy..I can't wait to see what she writes next.
Twilight Book Series.......2007-10-17
I love these books. I can't say enough good things about these books. I'm 24 years old and these books are intended for teens, however, they are a great story for just about anyone - any age. My friends got me started on book one - Twilight. I was hooked. I read the book in about 5 days. (for me that's a big deal, I'm not really a reader) Book two, New Moon, took me a little longer. After falling in love with the characters in book one, they go through some terrible times in book two. This book two, New Moon, pulls at all of your heart strings. I could really feel all the pain and suffering these characters were going through.
If you like love stories, if you like action, if you like comedy, and if you like vampires and werewolves - These are the books for you. Most people push the book away when they hear me speak about vampires and werewolves - don't. I know people who want nothing to do with vampires and werewolves - but LOVE these books.
Trust me, they're addicting.=)
Thanks Stephanie Meyer!
Incredible, astounding, breathtaking, dazzling... absolutely MAGICAL. .......2007-10-16
There aren't enough words to describe the impact this book has on a person. It was every bit as sensational as Twilight. I must warn you before you begin reading this book that Eclipse (the next book in the series) won't be coming out until 2007. After reading the last page you'll understand my warning. If I had one wish in the world it would be that Stephenie Meyer published Eclipse tomorrow. I know most people feel the same way because I have yet to find a person who hasn't enjoyed this series as much as I have. This book, like Twilight is extremely unique. It is very hard to explain the way you feel while reading, I can only say that it allows you to comprehend every aspect of human emotion. I can say the same thing for very few books, if I had to describe New Moon in a sentence I would have to say... Painful to put down and utterly heartbreaking to finish. Also, if you missed reading Tino Georgiou's masterpiece--The Fates, go and read it. While I'm near the end, I'm reading it at a rapid pace because it's so addictive. There is something about his books that bring you in and get you hooked. and I'm loving this one.
Author should condense Twilight, New Moon & Eclipse into one book.......2007-10-15
Twilight made me crave more. So, I purchased New Moon. Much to my dismay the wording is extremely flowery. I wish Ms. Meyer would just say exactly what she wants to say straight to the point and not repeat the same old stuff over and over again. Honestly, there's a lot of pages though it doesn't say much. I think it could have been very easily condensed into one book with Twilight and Eclipse.
Not Bad But . . ........2007-10-15
While I was reading this book, I liked it, until I got done with it and realized how much I didn't care for the subject matter. If you're into fantasy (which I'm not) and vampire romance, then you'll love this. Otherwise, you'll be caught up in the action, and realize in the end that you fell for the hype.

By melding love, science, and religion into a primer on personal growth, M. Scott Peck launched his highly successful writing and lecturing career with this book. Even to this day, Peck remains at the forefront of spiritual psychology as a result of The Road Less Traveled. In the era of I'm OK, You're OK, Peck was courageous enough to suggest that "life is difficult" and personal growth is a "complex, arduous and lifelong task." His willingness to expose his own life stories as well as to share the intimate stories of his anonymous therapy clients creates a compelling and heartfelt narrative.
Book Description
Perhaps no book in this generation has had a more profound impact on our intellectual and spiritual lives than The Road Less Traveled. With sales of more than seven million copies in the United States and Canada, and translations into more than twenty-three languages, it has made publishing history, with more than ten years on the New York Times bestseller list.
Now, with a new Introduction by the author, written especially for this twenty-fifth anniversary deluxe trade paperback edition of the all-time national bestseller in its field, M. Scott Peck explains the ideas that shaped this book and that continue to influence an ever-growing audience of readers.
Written in a voice that is timeless in its message of understanding, The Road Less Traveled continues to help us explore the very nature of loving relationships and leads us toward a new serenity and fullness of life. It helps us learn how to distinguish dependency from love; how to become a more sensitive parent; and ultimately how to become one's own true self.
Recognizing that, as in the famous opening line of his book, "Life is difficult" and that the journey to spiritual growth is a long one, Dr. Peck never bullies his readers, but rather guides them gently through the hard and often painful process of change toward a higher level of self-understanding.
Customer Reviews:
Growth.......2007-10-18
A unique study of growth through psychotherapy; anyone can benefit. Peck says we already have the knowledge we need, we just draw on it through our conscious; we learn what we already know. He uses patient/doctor discussions to explain his point. Refreshing and informative from the very first page. You will also find it insightful and well reasoned. He finds his chief enemy is invariably laziness; it will take work. Before Peck begins he wants us to know:
"As a psychiatrist, I feel it is important to mention at the outset two assumptions that underlie this book. One is that I make no distinction between the mind and the spirit, and therefore no distinction between the process of achieving spiritual growth and achieving mental growth. They are one and the same."
The book begins, where it all starts: with good parenting, via tuff love, kindness, comfort, and delayed gratification. Without this, Peck shows how childhood went on to corrupt our adulthood. And now we need to relearn. The book is divided out into flowing sections; each section is covered by short descriptions set off by sub-headings.
So we learn poor parenting leads to problems in adulthood. Taking the extra time when they are young saves more time later in life. As adults, procrastination haunts us; it is better to suffer now than later; the problems don't go away. We end up passing our freedom on to others (just look at how our country votes!). Because we tend to fool ourselves away from pain and difficulties we don't open ourselves to challenge and growth. Regulating anger is a major problem for many of us. Holding our marriages together is another. There are some very important misconceptions on love. "For the most part, mental illness is caused by and absence of or defect in the love that a particular child required from its particular parents for successful maturation and spiritual growth."
How often does the miraculous slip by us without notice; could it occur more than we may know? "Among humanity love is the miraculous force that defies the natural law of entropy"; the mysteries that are grace. Peck says mental illness occurs when one deviates from the will of God: "The closer one comes to godhead, the more one feels sympathy for God. To participate in God's omniscience is also to share His agony." Every one of us has a religion, "so we squabble over our different microcosmic world views, and all wars are holy wars".
Even Jung sees there is something more: "Life has always seemed to me like a plant that lives on its rhizome. Its true life is invisible, hidden in the rhizome. The part that appears above ground lasts only a single summer. Then it withers away----an ephemeral apparition. When we think of the unending growth and decay of life and civilization, we cannot escape the impression of absolute nullity. Yet I have never lost a sense of something that lives and endures underneath the eternal flux. What we see is the blossom, which passes. The rhizome remains".
Wish you well
Scott
My favorite book!.......2007-09-20
I had to write a quick review simply because the one that shows first is so negative. This is my favorite book. The writer below seems to be inferring things from the book that I never did... I completely disagree with the author of the last comment. I do not think Peck is endorsing religion, but rather spirituality, but if you get yours from religion, so be it. Why was he so shocked about the patient and sex comment?.... I am not going to even expand on each aspect of his comment... it would just be a jumbled mess... I recommend this book to anyone. It reveals universal truths and every line... almost every line rings true to me and to many, many people. I understand, after reading the last comment, that it may fly in the face of what is generally accepted by the field (when necessary)... just my kind of book.
Road Less Traveled.......2007-09-19
The book was a collection of run-on sentences. The author appearently, has only a passing aquaintence with periods. The most dissapointing aspect of the book was the title. It is written from the perspective, of an upper, middle class, conservative christian; harly the road less traveled. Unfortunatly, the lowest rating you can give is one star; what a waste of money!
Very important book.......2007-09-12
Quite possibly the most important book I have ever read as I do believe that this book has had a bigger impact on my life than any other. However, I am at a bit of a loss to describe it as it covers a smattering of topics from love to discipline, maturity and religion. If I could only recommend one book to you, this would be it. A MUST read.
Eye opener.......2007-08-03
A great work explaining life in easy to read terms. The Psychology of Dicipline, Love and God - and how they work together. Highly recommend for all those struggling with any relationship problem. Chuck C
Customer Reviews:
Soooo boring that I couldn't finish.......2007-10-16
I read a lot of books and always finish but this book was sooooo boring that I have given up. My current favorite is the "Glass Castle"
Awful.......2007-10-12
I am in the second chapter and already am very distracted by the horrible use of commas and dashes in her long, meaningless sentences. Nobody ever speaks or thinks like that. The characters are not likeable. What a tedious exercise. Forget it, I'm trashing it, specially after reading all the reviews.
What an utter disappointment! .......2007-10-09
Rating should be NO stars!
I was quite enthused to read this book, having read some of the reviews. I have limited time and so I tend to pick books carefully. All I can say is "my bad!" This book was such a disappointment - the characters were pretentious, the plot often vapid, and there seemed to be a ton of loose ends at the conclusion of the book.
Plot spoiler!!!! The book's chronology covers September 11, 2001, and it handled the day and its sadness in such a haphazard manner. I worked downtown in NYC and was a mere 4 blocks away when the first tower fell - the description of the event and the impact on the characters was laughable. None of the characters were appealing, save for perhaps one (Annabel Thwaite, but mostly b/c she was not very involved with the other characters, but rather her work, which was noble - assisting problem foster children in the system).
This was a very slow read, and I actually threw the book in the garbage as soon as I finished. I do not often have such reactions to books, but again, this was a huge let-down, empty characters, feeble storyline, and pretentious prose, to boot.
Skip this one!
Don't waste your time or money.......2007-10-08
This book was an absolute bore. I cannot believe it was a critic's pick. I found the writing style and the characters to be so unbelievably tedious, I threw it in the trash after page 160. I couldn't even give it away with a straight face.
Made myself mad that I wasted the time!.......2007-10-06
I kept reading, waiting for something to happen. I would sometimes stop and read a sentence out loud to my husband, who would patiently get out the dictionary! Got to a point that I was skimming paragraphs just so I could finish and be done with it! Don't think I've ever been mad at myself for wasting time reading!
Book Description
If alcoholics and addicts won't accept help until they are ready, what gets them ready? This book provides an answer in clear and concise terms. Dispelling two damaging myths - that an addict has to hit bottom and that intervention must be confrontational - the authors' proven approach puts love first and shows families, step by step, what to do next.
Customer Reviews:
Great .......2007-07-24
This book is great for anyone interested in learning about addiction. It gives a well rounded and educated approach for an intervention. Although, I would probably use more books than just this for a reference if you're going to try an intervention, but that is just from experience.
Hazelden?? Be Very Afraid.........2007-04-21
If you have an addiction...Dont choose Hazelden as a place to start your recovery. I'm a Graduate of Tiebout and stayed at the Hotel Jelinek. They will try to brainwash you by using meds.
Immeasurable!.......2007-04-10
This book is an INCREDIBLE help - even if you don't end up doing an intervention for your loved one. It's title derives from the term "Tough Love," and theorizes putting LOVE FIRST. It gives clear and concise explanations of every aspect of addiction and treatment to those who aren't quite understanding the whole picture. If you are, or are dealing with, friends and/or family of an addict, this book is a must-read. If you do choose to do an intervention, it gives step-by-step instruction on how to do it with love, and includes all the organizational tools you'll need.
Love First.......2007-01-19
This is a very good book. If you have anyone in your life who has an addiction that is out of control, you should read this and take action immediately. This book gives you all of the tools you need to plan an intervention and get treatment for the addiction.
A Godsend.......2007-01-04
Our intervention group followed the suggestions for a successful intervention to the letter. This was a valuable guide. Our intervention was successful, and I believe a huge part of that success came from the "how to" format presented in this text. The book provided answers for every possible scenario and explained the logic behind the recommendations.
Book Description

Whether psychic pain is in the area of relationships, career, or health, she shows us how love is a potent force, the key to inner peace, and how by practicing love we can make our own lives more fulfilling while creating a more peaceful and loving world for our children.
Customer Reviews:
I did NOT like this book.......2007-09-28
This book was recommended by a friend. He told me he recommends this book to his friends. I ordered the book and read it. The author has written of her own personal lifes experiences: At a young age she was into a wild life-style which is not uncommon for young adults. She stated that because of her life-style, she never felt very happy or fulfilled in many ways. Then...voila! She decided to find god....something 'greater than herself' to help her out. The entire book, in my opinion, is nothing but prosyletizing.... It's certainly not a book I would even suggest to any one I know---believers or not. She wrote of her own, very personal experiences....period. That's fine, I suppose, in and of itself. But... I wouldn't even want to give the book to a stranger.....I put it in with all my paper recycling.
All Time Favorite.......2007-08-31
This book is my all time favorite! I have read it multiple times and often open it and read whatever page I open to. It is always relevant to my life, relationships and spiritual growth. Marianne Williamson is blessed with an insight, personal understanding and awareness that bring the Course in Miracles to our everyday experience.
A must read for "Miracle- Workers".......2007-08-13
"A Return to Love" is a clear and fluent spiritual love story. Marianne Williamson takes the principles from "A Course in Miracles," and makes them accessible through explanations, anecdotes, personal experiences and simple metaphors that reveal the spiritual journey, one which is quite simply a conscious journey to turn from fear and return to love. I found this book life changing. It is inspiring and motivating. I loved it.
a return to love.......2007-08-09
good book. i love the way marianne expresses herself and her experiences which helped me, again, to realize that i'm not alone and that love is all there is.
Another self proclaimed spiritual teacher........2007-08-01
An anecdotal story. When I lived in Michigan Williamson was the spiritual leader of a church I attended. Williamson would speak with insight and wisdom on numerous subjects yet was unable to merge her talk with her action. While she often commented on environmental issues she continued to drive an appalling gas guzzler, while she spoke eloquently about the poor, she also happened to live in a mansion, while she provided social political commentary, she also supported Democrats who were bought and paid for by corporations and refused to give equal time to progressive Green candidates, while she noted the disparity between rich and poor, she nevertheless wore Armani gowns and $300.00 dollar shoes. Williamson talks the talk, the problem was a annoying matter of embodiment.
I often read commentaries by Williamson on other spiritual authors books. She uses words like "awakener" and "enlighten" often to characterize these people; the problem with her characterizations says more about the blind leading the blind than it says about anything else. The word the best fits is PollyAnnish to describe her world view as she disseminates her eco-la-la love conquers all routine to the choir of disciples. Williams level of praxis seeks to insure that her photo is on the cover of most of her books followed by a stage big enough to satisfy her monumental ego.
Personally, I would rather read a spiritual book by someone who walks their talk; Williamson is not anywhere near that category of praxis. And I doubt she ever will be.

Customer Reviews:
not what I expected.......2007-09-25
I am a novice meditator, but I really found it hard to relax and let go when this guys voice is wimbling away in my ear. There was just something very unconvincing about this disk. Plus, I have a really difficult time taking a white guy seriously who has named himself Bodhipaksa. Not to make it too personal, but honestly, every time I think about listening to this disk I start to laugh because it was just silly. A much better disk that I found is Wayne Dyer's cd "Meditations for Manifesting". I really enjoy his philosophy and he really gives you a feeling of connecting with something outside of yourself.
Great for Beginners.......2007-08-27
This is a good starting place for someone new to meditation.
I thought the price was rather steep just to hear Bodhipaksa talking thru the entire CD, but again, a good no nonsense approach to the basics of meditation.
Perfect.......2007-08-08
I am a keyed up person my nature and find it difficult to really let myself relax fully. Meditation was impossible for me. This cd has changed that completely. I bring it down to my pond and put my earphones in and let myself go. What I consider to be the perfect voice, soothes me into relaxation without volume and pitch changes or any other distratctions. I highly recommend this cd for all.
Very effective meditation CD.......2007-08-05
this is the best one I've found to far in terms of getting peaceful and centered. I didn't think I'd like it when it started, but I relaxed and went with and ended up loving it. I wish you could forward through the tracks easier as when you do it a lot, it gets repetitive and if you want to get to the walking meditation it takes forever. I also change the chant from "may I" to "I am," as I believe in positive affirmation rather than wishing for something. Very peaceful CD.
Calming the Spirit.......2007-05-29
This CD really works to calm the spirit. I listen at night and when walking. The words are inspirational and soothing. Do not listen to this CD when driving. Great for anxious people, the authors words and are uplifting while at the same time so soothing that it lulls you into deep calmness.
Book Description
"After-death communications," or "ADCs, " occur when someone is contacted spontaneously and directly by a deceased family member or friend, without the help of any medium. The authors' research shows that these spiritual experiences offer hope, love, and comfort for thousands of people. Included are more than 350 first-hand accounts of those whose lives have been changed and even protected by messages or signs from the deceased.

Hogwash.......2007-10-13
I wish this were true, but it's bunk. Grieving is a difficult business, and we should not try to pretend we're still in touch.
Real life accounts.......2007-08-23
The writer compiles real life stories in the words of the person experiencing the "visit", message, etc., from beyond. Very touching.
we dont die.......2007-04-27
knowing there is life after death is a great comfort this book will help you if you have lost someone close well written another great book which will give you comfort is the calling of your true self elizabeth anne bell both well worth reading these spiritual people have been in touch with the other side so much truth in the readings
Interesting.......2007-04-12
Although this book gets bogged down sometimes in explaining an account of an ADC (After Death Contact) after you have just read the account, it is very interesting. If you are open to such experiences, this book will bring you comfort in confirming that life goes on in other forms.

i like this one...........2007-09-10
because the pictures aren't of real people but are like bathroom figures. i'm not a big fan of the kama sutra books that have naked people all up in them...i feel like i'm looking at porn. if you're like me this is the book for you.
Not pleasurable at all!.......2007-08-30
UNCOMFORTABLE! Most of these positions were created out of desperation for "NEWNESS" opposed to created for pleasure and good sex! It is as though the point were not to create sexual satisfaction, but to test the couples physical flexibility and endurance for discomfort.
The Cosmo Kama Sutra: 77 Mind-Blowing Sex Positions.......2007-05-14
Unless you spent your entire life doing acrobatics in a circus this is not helpful at all. I returned it because it was in no way realistic and seemed it would be quite painful for those of us who are not from the circus.
Cosmo Kama Sutra.......2007-03-15
I didn't feel the book had anything in it that the average person hadn't already tried before in their own experimenting. After like the first five positions, the book started repeating itself by switching the man with the woman, the left side with the right, or leaning forward or more backward. I don't really recommend buying this book, there wasn't anything in it that I didn't already know.
Mind blowing?!?!.......2007-02-16
I should have known that it wasn't real Kama Sutra. cosmo just makes it up as they go.

WOW.......2007-09-27
This book is amazing. Actual steps and language to help couples discuss and work through really important issues. Makes sense to both male and female. Great "case studies" examples of principles in action. Really really like this book.
New Rules an interesting read........2007-09-20
I saw the author on television talking about the book and was intrigued enough to buy it. It was well worth the price.
Terrence Real does a great job of including real-life examples to support his theories of relationship building.
I recommend it highly.
A Must Read, Whether in a Good or Poor or Future Relationship!.......2007-06-18
This is the BEST relationship book that I would recommend people read no matter if you are in a good, solid relationship and want to keep it that way, in a rocky relationship that you'd like to improve, or just thinking about someday being in a relationship. In fact, it is excellent even for those who are not going to be married - just socially interacting with other human beings!! Written by Terrence Real (a family therapist, who also specializes in male depression) this book certainly makes MY FRIENDS MUST READ list. Chapters are divided and activities arranged in such a way that individuals can work thru the book on their own (and see true positive changes in their relationships - with partners or friends) OR you can work thru it as a couple in addition to individual work. Real does makes some inaccurate statements about feminism and the feminist movements in our country, but I guess no book can be perfect and not everyone has background education in Women's Studies. :)
Every Couple's Read.......2007-06-15
If you are serious about your relationship, and both interested in learning your limitations, this is an exceptional resource.
The author describes the difference between men (who retreat into their caves to avoid intimacy and work on problems) and women (who retreat into anger to avoid problems and end up limiting initimacy). Becoming self aware is an essential aspect of operating in the world, if we are willing to be honest about our behaviors we can become more functional.
I also listened to the Audio version of the book and it was much more informative to hear the examples and conversations in this format. Having a tendency to drift when I read such examples, hearing them was better.
The behaviors identified, practices provided, and exercises are well worth the effort. We don't expect ourselves to be trained in our occupations, why is it we expect that we will be perfectly skilled to succeed in relationship? It takes learning, and enough esteem to realize we don't know everything about making it work.
This is a great start to intimate health.
