Customer Reviews:
The most comprehensive book on Westies out there.......2007-04-11
If you are serious about Westies, you absolutely MUST have this book. Faherty has a writing style that's humorous and informative, and she gives the nitty-gritty on the mysterious art of handstripping. No other resource out there gives this much detail. I've taken the plunge and am stripping my own Westie, and Faherty's comprehensive chapter on grooming has been a tremendous help. This book is really geared for Westie connoisseurs, who have an interest in showing their dogs. In addition to the grooming chapter, several sections are devoted to the art of showing your dog as well as breeding. This may be too dense a book for a general pet owner and the more general Westie books may be more appropriate. However, if you are looking for THE resource on Westies, buy this book!
A great book.......2007-03-13
Every dog enthusiast, westie lover or not, should read this book, because even though it talks about westies, one can learn a lot about dogs in general. I have more than 15 years of experience in showing dogs and more than 12 years of professional grooming experience and I still learned a lot from this well written, very detailed and comprehensive book.
Essential for your West Highland White Terrier Library.......2007-03-09
Westies:From Head to Tail 2nd Edition is a most readible, comprehensive treatment of all topics of concern to both Westie breeders and neophytes to the breed. No serious Westie enthusiast should be without this attractive volume.

a bum steer from amazon.......2005-08-28
This is a great book for people who plan to breed West Highland White terriers, but as the owner of a six-month-old Westie I'm finding it worthless with the exception of the author's charming introductory remarks about the breed. There's no practical advice on training and far more advice than any typical pet owner is looking for with respect to breeding and whelping. The section on grooming is almost ludicrously intimidating. I simply cannot believe the deceptive reviews I read here.

Amazing Adventure!.......2007-03-22
This amazing memoir tells the story of a privileged man's journey from boyhood to manhood. As the reader, I was able to travel to foreign countries, experience war, and the ups and downs of love. The most amazing part of the story is when Arthur meets Jane, his 4th wife and love of his life. Hadley's memoir provides hope and insight. I never realized the great role that chance plays in a person's life. Society tends to depict fortune and misfortune as uncontrollable events. Hadley's memoir emphasizes that taking risks allows a person to have a more fulfilling life. Heads or Tails encourages us to reevaluate our own lives in order to reach our potential. I also loved the photographs of the author and his family included in the middle of the book. I cried at the end of the memoir. Arthur Hadley's story is truly amazing!
A Wonderful Read.......2007-03-18
Arthur Hadley has lived long and large and this incredible memoir that intertwines his personal and professional endeavors with equal clarity and fascination is a great page-turner. It's rare to find a writer of such grace on topics both personal and political. I highly recommend this book.
Moving and Inspirational.......2007-03-16
"Arthur Hadley is a marvel and this is an exceptional memoir of growing and surviving a seemingly elegant but frozen family" -David Halberstam I saw this quote and after reading this book, I wholeheartedly agree that this book is a "marvel" and "exceptional." I cried at the end (and I never cry). This book is one of those rare ones that truly move the soul. I am buying three extras to give as gifts!

casino is the BEST!!!.......2007-06-05
This is a great book that is certain fun for anyone who reads it! With multidimensional views, quirky characters, great analagies, and side splitting quotes, this book is guaranteed to make you laugh. I recommend reading all three books in order, to understand the characters better. The characters are like everyone you'll ever know, but put into words better than real life! They grow on you like old friends, with real personalities and minds of their own. the author weaves a hilarious story of Jady, who must have WAY to much time on his hands, and how he outwitts the council, Deludo, and social services... Look out Spawater HERE COMES JADY!!!:)

Customer Reviews:
LackLuster.......2006-11-03
The book is very small and covers some basic knowledge, but is not really great for answering the "big" questions you might have about your dog's health.
Very useful.......2006-03-09
This book really helps to understand your dog symptons and it's very easy tu read because it doesn't have all that technical words that make hard to understand the book.
Medical info AND peace of mind!.......2003-06-18
WHAT YOUR DOG IS TRYING TO TELL YOU is an easy to use, easy to read, straightforward and practical guide to canine health. While of course no book can take the place of regular (and emergency if need be) visits to your dog's veterinarian, this book is a great help in deciding what the problem might be and whether it warrants a trip to the vet or whether it's something you can take care of at home (e.g. did the dog vomit because she has parvo or because she ate too much dinner too fast?). The book starts off with a section of symptoms that require emergency care, and includes a handy tear-out reference chart.
The remainder of the book is arranged in sections corresponding with parts of the dog's body, making it easy for the reader to find exactly what she is looking for, from Head and Neck to Tail and Anus. If one's dog is scratching, for example, it could be for any number of reasons other than fleas (what most people think of first when they see a dog scratching). Chapter 6 covers Hair and Skin, including several pages on scratching, which includes constant, rhythmic scratching; intense itching with redness and swelling of a particular area, and so on. The discussion of each symptom includes related symptoms, possible causes, care, and prevention.
There is also a chapter that addresses abnormal behaviors, and several appendices, including Checklist for Good Health, How to Perform a Weekly Home Exam, and Breed Disease Predilections.
WHAT YOUR DOG IS TRYING TO TELL YOU is a marvelous canine health guide for the layman that will provide not only needed medical information but also peace of mind for the dog owner...

Easy to use and understand.......2005-11-08
A large but lightweight volume covering many topics. Information is easy to find through a good cross-referenced index and well-grouped Table of Contents. The information is concise, easy to read and understand. However, I don't think this book is meant to replace your veterinarian.

Heads or Tales Brings You Back.......2002-11-07
I loved this book and have had lots of fun sharing this book with my 6th grade students. They laugh at all the parts of the story where I think they should or might and then they laugh at me when I'm laughing at the story. I love reading the scene where Jack rides his bike after the mosquito fogger and whipes out.
I recommend this book to anyone. It is very humorous........1998-10-23
Jack Gantos wrote a half fiction and half biography book. It is filled with many small stories , all tying together in some way. grab it while you can.
A great book!.......1998-02-24
Though not the best I've read, it's not the worst, either. I think it's a great book for ages 7-14. He's really got something here!

My favorite 'go-to' guide.......2007-08-12
This is such a wonderful resourse! I have it on hand at all times for when 'something's just not quite right' with one of my doggies. As has been mentioned, it contains a chapter for every part of your pet. Excessive sratching?: Chapter six has almost 20 pages devoted to hair and skin disorders. Chapter nine lists over twenty pages concerning 'spine, limbs, and paws. And on and on...it literally covers every square inch of your pet. It also contains a handy "Symptoms Quickfinder" chart, and and a great "list of recommended dosages" chart, that gives you dosages for everything from aspirin to Zinc. I could go on and on, but I guarantee, you will never be disappointed you purchased this book!
Great Book.......2000-03-23
I have bought many books about dogs, 'cause I simply adore them and want to learn everything regarding their health and how to make them happier. This book is awsome! Everything a dog owner wants to learn, is here. Categorized, makes it easy to find what you are looking for, includes all symptoms&solutions, daily check up, emergencies, it's just perfect! A "MUST" for every house with dogs. Beginners or experts, will take the most from this book and love it.
Very educational and easy reading for dog lovers!.......1999-06-28
Great book with lots of information concerning the symptoms and solutions for your dog. Well organized and easy to read. I found this book very helpful for my older dogs. I would recommend this book to all dog owners.
Very informative and easy to read.......1999-03-10
This is an excellent book. The first two chapters talk about emergency first aid and common behavior problems.
The rest of the book is divided into different sections by body parts (head, eyes, skin, etc). Under each section, different topics are grouped by symptoms instead of disease names, therefore making it easier to to look for answers. It provides a very thorough discussion on symptoms, causes, treatment and prevention in a simple and easy-to-understand manner.
The appendix about health check, over-the-counter medications, herbs and minerals also provides as a good reference.

A comprehensive guide to Yorkshire Terries by longtime breeder Sandra Lemire.
Customer Reviews:
The Best Yorkie Advice On the Market.......2006-07-23
Like many people who are new to living with a Yorkie, I purchased lots of Yorkshire Terrier guides. Lord knows, there are a ton of them out there, so its very confusing to choose the right one. I considered myself very lucky when I came upon this book. I had questions that I could not find an answer for anywhere. If only I had purchased this book in the beginning, I could have saved a lot of money and frustration, as it helped me with every question I had, supplying me with valuable advice found in no other book. It is the only book that I still reach for time and again, and it never lets me down. Mrs. Lamire does not tiptoe around, being oh so careful to say just the right thing to appease to people. She has the guts to tell it like it is. I really appreciate her expert advice and candor, as it saved me from making terrible mistakes. Thank you so much for putting Yorkies first, above all else, when you embarked upon this excellent guide.
Best thing going........2003-12-28
Like other folks who have been "yorked", I buy every thing I can get my hands on about yorkies. I think this is the best of them. It is the most practical and inclusive. I like the cautionary aspect of this book; too many gloss over the fact that these are tiny dogs and with that goes some degree of delicacy. This is the one book I give friends who get yorkies. I highly recommend it.
A Bark Above The Rest!.......2002-07-29
This is a superlative content of personal experience, incredible data and delightful observations! The concepts and practical knowledge is exceptional. This is a mandatory volume for anyone wanting the best care and ultimate ensuing health and happiness for their canine companion, regardless of size or breed! The principals and examples are invaluable and written in a pleasurable manner. Very much recommended!
A MUST FOR YORKIE LOVERS, BREEDERS AND OWNERS.......2002-06-08
THIS BOOK IS THE ONLY BOOK I HAVE EVER READ THAT CAPTURES THE TRUE CHARACTER OF THE YORKIE. BESIDES BEING PACKED WITH PRACTICAL INFORMATION, IT REALLY GETS INTO THE MIND SET OF THIS MARVELOUS LITTLE DOG. I HAVE OFTEN WONDERED IF OTHER PEOPLE HAVE SEEN WHAT I HAVE SEEN WITH THESE LITTLE WONDERS, NOW I KNOW THAT THEY HAVE.
THE LITTLE STORIES ENCLOSED ARE EXPERIENCES WE, AS OWNERS OF A YORKIE, HAVE ALL GONE THROUGH AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER. THEY MAY MAKE YOU CRY, BUT THEY REMIND YOU OF ONE OF YOUR "BABIES".
AFTER WRITING THIS REVIEW I AM IMMEDIATELY GOING ON TO ORDER THREE MORE COPIES FOR THREE OF MY FRIENDS. IN MY OPINION I COULDN'T GIVE THEM A BETTER GIFT.
Great specifics on the breed but a bit frightening at times!.......2001-12-18
I would have given this book 5 stars were it not for all the "doom and gloom" sidebars about the numerous horrible things that happened to various Yorkies--usually at the hand of their owners. I am researching this breed in the hopes of buying a puppy and I found this book very intimidating and discouraging at times due to all these gloomy references. Having talked to many Yorkie owners/breeders, I don't get the impression that these dogs are as fragile and picky as portrayed in this book. Negatives aside, this book seems to outline very clearly the most important details and caveats that really set the Yorkies apart from other breeds. For that, I am thankful.

Product Description
Everyone knows some of the basics of probability, perhaps enough to play cards. Beyond the introductory ideas, there are many wonderful results that are unfamiliar to the layman, but which are well within our grasp to understand and appreciate. Some of the most remarkable results in probability are those that are related to limit theorems--statements about what happens when the trial is repeated many times. The most famous of these is the Law of Large Numbers, which mathematicians, engineers, economists, and many others use every day. In this book, Lesigne has made these limit theorems accessible by stating everything in terms of a game of tossing of a coin: heads or tails. In this way, the analysis becomes much clearer, helping establish the reader's intuition about probability. Moreover, very little generality is lost, as many situations can be modelled from combinations of coin tosses. This book is suitable for anyone who would like to learn more about mathematical probability and has had a one-year undergraduate course in analysis.
