Ann Brashares has created a wonderful, heartfelt series for teens (and adults) around a pair of pants. In her breakout bestseller, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Brashares introduced readers to four girls, Lena, Bridget, Carmen, and Tibby, and to the magical pair of jeans that fit them all perfectly, and inspired them to live their young lives to the fullest. Forever in Blue, the fourth and final novel in the series, promises a dazzling finale--one "last glorious summer" for the four girls, and their fans. A Note from Ann Brashares

December 1, 2006
Dear Amazon Reader,
Well, here we are together again. If you are getting ready to read the fourth book, Forever in Blue, that means we've probably spent some time together. I hope you've enjoyed it. I know I have.
We don't know each other and we may never get to meet, but I feel like we are connected nonetheless. We've spent time with four fictional girls together. We've puzzled over their lives and their choices. We've rooted for them and sometimes felt annoyed by them. We've shared some hopes for them, I think, and in the process for ourselves.
So thank you for being part of the sisterhood with me. I have really appreciated your company along the way.
Happy reading,
Ann

Book Description
With unraveled embroidery and fraying hems, the Traveling Pants are back for one last, glorious summer.
Lena: Immerses herself in her painting and an intoxicating summer fling, fearing that the moment she forgets about Kostos will be the moment she sees him again.
Carmen: Falls under the spell of a sophisticated college friend for whom a theatrical role means everything and the heritage of the Pants means nothing.
Bridget: Joins a dig for an ancient city on the coast of Turkey and discovers that her archaeology professor is available in every way except one.
Tibby: Leaves behind someone she loves, wrongly believing he will stay where she has left him.
Join Ann Brashares's beloved sisterhood once again in a dazzling, fearless novel. It's a summer that will forever change the lives of Lena, Carmen, Bee, and Tibby, here and now, past and future, together and apart.

I liked the others better.......2007-08-10
This was the book made to tie up loose ends. Everyone came to a conclusion about their life and the pants. The whole thing was sort of boring. Yes I liked the book, but in a way everyone was the same as they started. I suppose the point of it was to show how they had grown up and still stayed the same. Maybe it was that there wasn't enough excitement or maybe it's that I'm tired now but i thought it wasn't as good as the other books.

Sisterhood.......2007-08-04
I have enjoyed this entire series...takes me back to my Judy Blume days. The girl in all of us can identify with these characters as they grow, change, and try to not lose themselves or each other in the process. The earlier on you learn that nothing means more than your girl friends...the better off you are! I think the quotes between the chapters are insightful, and I enjoy finding their relation to the story as I read on. That brings a literary aspect not often found in young adult novels. I appreciate that this book and its prequels can be light and real at the same time. A book about pants sounds like fluff, but you feel with these girls as they deal with real issues both internal and external. Real doesn't have to be dark...bittersweet seems more fitting. These books capture the laughter through tears that is what sisterhood is about. I highly recommend reading them all.
So Long Sisterhood.......2007-07-26
Although this wasn't my fave Sisterhood book, it deserves kudos for not only reflecting the maturity of the characters at this point in their lives, but also the realities of growing up and growing apart. This is the fourth and supposedly final chapter of the Sisterhood tomes, and is likely to provide a conclusive feeling for the readers of the series.
To recap, the Travelling Pants series details the summers four best friends spend, sometimes apart, sometimes together. They are of course, as per the legend, bonded together by a pair of 'magical' pants that give them the strength of the love they feel as friends even when they aren't together.
In all fairness I read the third book quite some time ago so reading the new fourth one was a bit of a cognitive leap - I could barely remember a lot of what happened in the past! Anyway in this one the girls are bridging the gap between their first and second year of university. They've actually shared the pants year-round this time because they have spent the year at different colleges etc. That should be your first clue something is up - the girls are very very much so a lot more individual characters this time around, which was both refreshing and problematic. Of the latter, it was good because I was sick and tired of how cheesy and overemphasized their relationship was - although some sappy moments still exist towards the end, they are certainly toned down. But in the absence of their friendship it almost defeated the purpose of the book, and the pants of course.
This time around the girls spend most of their summer apart. Tibby is still in New York working and taking a summer class and wondering whether she has made the right choices when it comes to her relationship with Brian. Bee (my fave as always) is in Turkey getting back to basics on an archeological dig site and wondering whether the best alternative to missing her boyfriend is not missing a single thing her hot professor does. Flamboyent Carmen has surprisingly shrunk into her shell over the last year, and fallen under the wing of a supposedly protective, glorious friend, who turns out to be anything but as their summer continues. Lena is at art school and enraptured with a guy, shockingly this time, not the love of her life, Kostos.
As I mentioned earlier, the book definitely took on a more mature tone than the others - most of it dealt with sex and relationships and very little of it focused on friendship and personal self-growth - although most of the storylines evolve to give the girls those girl power moments of epiphany. Although I enjoyed the storylines a lot more this time it almost felt like the characters were under-used and less developed because there was far less crossover opportunities given their summer was spent so far apart emotionally and physically.
Brashares does a good job wrapping up the series in a realistic way though - Upon finishing it, I realized why she decided to do a fourth (I completely assumed the third would be the last) as each book is kind of meant to represent each of the four girls.
All in all a fitting conclusion to the series that represented, quite honestly, the realities of growing up and moving away when it comes to those true blue friends you thought you'd never forget, and those true blue jeans you thought you'd never lose.
Forever in Blue: The Fourth Summer of the Sisterhood (Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants).......2007-07-19
OMG!!! I loved every single one of the books preceding this book and this one hit the mark! It is so wonderful, and though it is so sad that it ends the series the finish is remarkable. Brashare's masterpiece is complete!!!
One too many.......2007-07-15
I thought the prime qualities of the first three books of this series were charm and innocence. For the fourth installment, one of our heroines poses nude for a male art student and another falls for a married man with children. Whatever other qualities the book may have, charming and innocent it is not.

They cover it all: naming the puppy, training with eye contact and jingling keys, establishing the best sleeping arrangements, even dealing with pet loneliness. awesome book.......2007-10-15
The book will help me be an amazing dog owner when I'm ready for it. I read it and thought about my lifestyle (22 y.o. English teacher in South Korea) and decided that now is not the time for me to have a dog. Kudos to the Monks of New Skete. It has, however, helped me start training my students. :)
When you've got enough time on your hand..........2007-09-04
Who better than a bunch of rural New England living monks to spend their days raising German Shepards and writing about it... Between living the monastic life (young pups tethered to their frocks), these monks raise, breed and train dogs... and have written a book (this) which is considered by many the definitive dog owners guide... and when it comes to straightforward, in-depth non-gimmicky practicality... this manual may very well live up to its reputation... and quite worldly and dog centered with the exception on their philosophy of discipline... and this is why I only give it four stars... not that I agree or disagree, but its important to realize that their method is neither RADICAL, nor exactly modern... Basically if you've been reading most of the newer books you're told "Never punish a puppy..." in contrast, the Monk's go into quite a bit of detail on how to get yours to yelp should he try to pull certain offenses... Included are maneuvers which the monks describe as more drama than violence, but definitely are corporal punishment... with those controversial ALPHA ROLLS for toppers... and this is where I have a problem: I would really like to see the average non-professional dog trainer little old lady try to slap then alpha roll a large breed dog with an aggression problem and see what happens (a face full of stitches perhaps?) If such maneuvers are meant as a LAST RESORT, wouldn't that mean that the dog may very well need to be handled by a professional with a bit more experience... Trust me... I can't even play with my toy poodle without now and then having my nose chewed on... wrestling Rottweilers... forget it. - - I hope atleast one person agrees with me that even if this type of discipline is appropriate to get the dog to submit, it should not be done by someone unless they really know what they're doing... and even if not abusive when PROPERLY ADMINISTERED can be traumatic if not dangerous to the handler and dog if IMPROPERLY done. (I will admit though, the setting the dog up not to chase cars trick does sound rather fun!)
That said, this book is chock full of advice... not mere obedience but everything including very sensible advice many books miss out on... For example, the Monk's plead for a lifestyle that keeps the dog active, occupied and socialized, not merely disciplined and tied up in a yard...
and they go into the specifics how, even offering advice on how to make toys and sports good for both city and country. - - They also have a rather interesting trick they use with keys (similar to clicker training.)
My end advice... get it, but also read other books for balance... nonetheless, get it before you get your pup...
Absolutely Essential!.......2007-08-31
My own dog's trainer does not approve of the Monks, but in my world there is plenty of room for difference of opinion!
The Monks' book is valuable no matter what method you eventually settle on as a good fit for your temperament and your dog's needs, because the Monks' advice is about so much more than training methods: it is about a lifestyle and outlook, and dedication to your dog as a member of the family, with needs very different from those of the human members. It is that sense of confidence and kind authority, without being stern or strict, that makes training work- not the style of training itself. This book helps you achieve that state, which gives your dog the restful assurance that Master or Mistress is in charge, so he can relax and do his best at being your dog.
Great Training Manual.......2007-08-28
I got this because of my border collie. I am very glad I got this book. It was hard to choose which book to get since there are so many out there. I researched many books before deciding on this one. If you want to train your dog, buy this book!
How to be your Dog's Best Friend.......2007-08-28
When we adopted our black lab/shepard mix we sent for a copy of this book and felt that we successfully trained our dog using the monks' methods. Then our daughter (a school teacher) just got a purebred yellow lab so we obtained this particular copy of the book for her to use. She and her husband have read the book and using their methods of training. We and they are very happy with the results of the training of our dogs.

Excellent!!.......2007-08-31
Don't let the size of this book turn you away - this book has all the information you need to greatly improve your relationship with your dog. I highly recommend this book to anyone that has a difficult dog, but people with obedient dogs can benefit as well.
This book was well written, short and to the point. I followed her advice and now my dogs listen to me and I no longer yell or pull on the leash!

A must have for anyone with a dog.......2007-07-09
This book saved my relationship with my two "kids" - it is written in language that is very easy to understand and presents principles in a way that anyone can appreciate and practice. I believe that reading this book taught me how to live with and relate to my four legged family in a way that truly allows us to live together in a harmony that we had not known previously and cherish every day since. Highly recommended for anyone who has a canine companion, whether it is a new relationship or one that has gone on for a while but has become a strain for any member of the family.
Get Double Pleasure from this book!.......2007-06-13
I enjoyed this practical little booklet, but it is twice as useful and entertaining if you read it aloud and substitute the word "man" [or a man's name] for the word "dog" [or a dog's name]. I gave it to my sister when she adopted one of my foster dogs, and we had a jolly and educational time reading it "both ways". Anything by Patricia McConnell is a "must-read" for those of us who love interaction with our dogs!

A little ruff!!!!.......2007-07-18
this book has a good selection of recipes but they are complicated and use ingredients like dried milk powder etc... the handy hints are good but some of the ingredients put me off making them.
Good book...Not exactly what I was looking for.......2007-07-13
This book uses a lot of "pre-made" ingredients (dog kibble, cereal, pancake mix) in the recipes, if that is what you are looking for than this is the book for you.
Drooling Doggie.......2007-05-15
My dog has just loved what I've made so far. The only fault with the book is having to do conversions (being from Oz)and finding the equivilent of the prepared bicuit bases, but I have and now we are on our way.
Some of Harley's mates also liked what I made! And yes he did sit next to me and drool!
Book Description
Yes, humans and canines are different species, but current research provides fascinating, irrefutable evidence that what we share with our dogs is greater than how we vary. As behaviorist and zoologist Dr. Patricia McConnell tells us in this remarkable new book about emotions in dogs and in people, more and more scientists accept the premise that dogs have rich emotional lives, exhibiting a wide range of feelings including fear, anger, surprise, sadness, and love.
In For the Love of a Dog, McConnell suggests that one of the reasons we love dogs so much is that they express emotions in ways similar to humans. After all, who can communicate joy better than a puppy? But not all emotional expressions are obvious, and McConnell teaches both beginning dog owners and experienced dog lovers how to read the more subtle expressions hidden behind fuzzy faces and floppy ears.
For those of us who deeply cherish our dogs but are sometimes baffled by their behavior, For the Love of a Dog will come as a revelation–a treasure trove of useful facts, informed speculation, and intriguing accounts of man’s best friend at his worst and at his very best. Readers will discover how fear, anger, and happiness underlie the lives of both people and dogs and, most important, how understanding emotion in both species can improve the relationship between them. Thus McConnell introduces us to the possibility of a richer, more rewarding relationship with our dogs.
While we may never be absolutely certain what our dogs are feeling, with the help of this riveting book we can understand more than we ever thought possible. Those who consider their dogs part of the family will find For the Love of a Dog engaging, enlightening, and utterly engrossing.

Good story, but not a training book.......2007-10-17
I was looking for a book to teach me some training tips. This is not it. I can't seem to find one that simply says, "Do this, and this and the dog will do this and in two weeks he/she will be a happier dog and you will be stress free!" There ain't one. This is a story about her love for her dogs and it is a great story, but buy it for a story, not training.
A non-reader, dog lover and shelter volunteer.......2007-10-13
I am not much of a reader and decided to get this cd set to listen to in the car during my commute to work. I just finished the last (10th) cd. I don't know what to do with myself while driving now. The radio doesn't interest me anymore. I began listening to the cds again! I am going to buy 2 of the books, one for me and one for a friend. I will use mine to highlight items I want to reference regularly.
Truly, if you want to understand your dog, and any other, better, you can't beat this book! It was very worthwhile. Too bad every dog trainer hasn't read this book.
I volunteer at a shelter as a dog walker. I walk the dogs who are new to the shelter and they have yet to be behavior evaluated. Tips in this book will help me "read" the dogs and understand what they are feeling.
Get this book (or cd set)!!! You won't be sorry!
sounds good to me.......2007-10-10
Not all the way thru yet but the book shares much of my own philosophy. Worth reading.
Excellent tool.......2007-09-30
This is one of the best tools I've found for helping me understand the world my dog lives in. As a sidebar - there is a series of photos including both humans and canines, showing expressions and pointing out what they mean. Having looked through it thoroughly, I was in hysterics after logging in to a blog and seeing a group of "happy party photos" - once I'd looked at her photos, the *real* message of the party shots was unavoidable, from the smile that said "take one more photo and I'll drown you in the gazpacho" to the frozen, fear-filled shy person, barring her teeth in one of the most uncomfortable smiles I've ever seen. So this is not only good for understanding your dog - but also for paying attention to the real messages on the people faces around you!
Terrific book - even if you don't have a dog!.......2007-09-29
This is a great book! I first purchased it as an audiobook, then purchased the hardcover. Now, I am listening to the audiobook for the second time, and am amazed all over again. If you are interested in the way your brain works, the way dogs learn, the way animals in general learn, this book is fascinating. It is not a how-to book, so you won't be able to train your dog after reading this book. But it will help you understand your dog (and yourself!)

Being An Alpha ain't That Great.......2007-08-17
As Alicia stages her take over to become an alpha, her and her BFF, Massie drift apart and the two find themselves in a raging, war of who has the better hold on their Clique. This book tells an amazing story of what a clique can do to crush you if you get in their way. After this book I was definitely hooked to the Clique series.
Best Friends for Never .......2007-05-23
Best Friends for Never is the best book I have ever read! The clique in this book consists of four girls, Massie, the clique leader, Alicia, who trys to be independent, Dylan, the weight watcher, and Kristen, who competes for guys. Then there is Claire. She wants to be in, but she is still out of the clique, at least for now. The school has a uniform competition to decide what the uniform will lood like. Will Kristen betray her best friends just to win the competition? Will she break away from the clique? Find out when you read Best Friends for Never

This book is the sequel to the Clique. In this book, Massie finds out that a girl from school is hosting the FIRST "girl-boy party". Massie wants to be the girl that people remember, so Massie hosts the first "girl-boy party" before the other girl does. At the party things didn't go too well with the 4 best friends. Alicia started hanging out with a girl named Olivia. Kirsten and Dylan were fighting over a boy who didn't like either of them. Then Massie was just stuck in the middle of it. After the party Alicia didn't hang out with the other three girls anymore, and the girls started to hate her. I thought this was a good book because it kept you interested the whole time, and I can always relate to all of the girls!
Book review.......2007-03-30
Massie Block is the most popular seventh grader at OCD and to prove it she throws the first boy/girl Halloween party even if it was somebody else's idea. However, her parents are making her throw the party with the wannabe new girl, Claire, from Orlando that is staying in her guesthouse. Also, they are making her invite the entire seventh grade! The story starts off with Claire and Massie making a bet, Massie can't go shopping and Clair can't were the same outfit twice. After Massie and her three popular best friends Dylan, Kristen, and Alicia find their costumes, Massie wears the Dirty Devil Halloween costume to school on Halloween, and brings Dylan's, Alicia's and Kristen's for them to change into but purposely forgets Claries. After everyone saw there costumes they wanted to be just like them, so also cut there shirts and wore short skirts. However, the principal was furious and decided the school needed uniforms. Massie suggests to the fashion teacher that the school holds a design contest and who ever has the best idea will be the uniform designer. Dylan decides to ditch the clique and work on the project with her new friend Olivia. After the contest is held, both there groups end up being the final two. The results are announced and Dylan's team wins. Massie noticed that the nametags had been switched and really they had won. She decides to do nothing about it and wait for the right moment to get back at her. "Best Friends for Never" by Lisi Harrison is an excellent book I would definitely recommend!
One of the reasons I would recommend this novel is because it deals with real life situations that typical middle school kids face everyday such as friend ship, popularity, and crushes. For example Clair is having a hard time fitting in after just moving also the characters faces difficult events like when Kirsten and Dylan like the same guy and Massie and Clair make a bet.
Another reason enjoyed this book was because it taught the reader to keep your friends close. At the party, Dylan made a new friend Olivia and hung with her ever since. The pretty committee, as several people at school called them, always had a sleepover every Friday. One Friday Dylan said she needed to hang out with Olivia so they could finish their uniform designs. Nobody had missed the sleepover in over a year, and the Clique has very angered that she ditched them. Clair also almost became part of the group and decided to ditch her first real and true friend she had met and OCD, Layne Abelby.
Another reason I liked this book was because it was hilarious! One of the funniest parts was when Todd, Clair's little brother who is only ten, started to have a crush on Massie. He always talked about how she was his baby and the most beautiful girl in the world. It was also funny how Todd was the one who stole Massie's first kiss when she was hoping it would be Cam Fisher who secretly liked Clair. The Girls also do mean and funny things to humiliate one another all the time. Massie always has rude but unique comebacks to say to people especially Clair.
Best Friends for Never is an excellent well written novel that I would highly recommend. They will want to keep reading to see what dramatic event happens next to Massie and the rest of her friends! If you want a book about sneaky plans and how some girls will do anything to become popular I would defiantly recommend this novel.

Book Description
You can't escape him. He swerves in and out of your life as if effortlessly walking through a crowded restaurant. He's a passive-aggressive master. He's as undetectable as a whisper and as effective as a tiny toxic pill. You probably went to school with him, and he knows everything you've done-every foolish secret ambition you've nurtured, everyone you wish you'd never slept with, every lame, fleeting trend you've embraced. The Underminer throws you into a spiral of self-doubt each time you see him. But...the Underminer is your friend. With this book, Mike Albo and Virginia Heffernan channel this hilarious and mysterious evil that we all have encountered. Through 15 years of booming successes and miserable failures, they pursue this powerful "friend" as he slowly and relentlessly dismantles the life of a nameless victim. Here is the subtle slayer of your hopes, the tactful destroyer of your dreams: the Underminer.

Entertaining.......2007-07-10
Very funny. I read parts of the book out loud to family and friends who were quite entertained at the way the characters are portrayed and the fact that we could all relate to knowing a few of these people in our lifetime. It was hilarous. I found this book to be smart and enjoyable.
Eh........2007-02-05
I can totally buy into the character of the Underminer, and the format of the book (the one-sided conversation with an unknown "victim"), but the life of the underminer was so completely over-the-top successful that what could have been acceptably amusing (not great by any means) was quickly annoying. No one is that successful, or diverse, or talented, or has as many friends from college turn into celebrities. Come on. I just got tired of it. I don't like name-dropping or celebrity references very much in general (it really dates a book; I know that was part of the point of this) but this was too much. The book would have been equally funny and pointed with a regular person picking on a regular person. I think it probably does work better as sketch comedy. Small doses are plenty! Especially because, as has already been pointed out, no one actually develops or matures.
The best part, I thought, was the Burning Man part. Not because I am a Burning Man aficionado, but because it seemed like two regular people in an extraordinary place, and one still manages to judge the other despite the environment of good will, freedom, creativity, and joy that the festival allegedly stands for (I've never been, so I can't verify).
Funny, but not as funny as Lifemanship.......2007-01-18
This book is very funny, but it's a little too downtown and Gawkerish for me to really laugh out loud.
If you liked it, you'll love Stephen Potter's Gamesmanship books (Lifemanship, Gamesmanship, etc.) The main conceit in the Underminer was taken straight from Potter. He wrote these books in the late 40s and early 50s, and he was British through and through, so it's not exactly topical humor--but if you enjoy British writing of that period, they're hugely enjoyable, much warmer and much funnier than The Underminer. The recent movie School for Scoundrels (itself an unsuccessful remake of a great movie) was also based on these books.
Too static.......2006-02-19
It's half of a brilliant concept, but Albo & co. needed more of a plot than "Underminer is successful. Victim is not." Repeat ad nauseum. I'm not sure why they decided to forgo a plot, because they're clearly talented. Yes, the underminer is evil. Yes, we hate him/her. Now that you've created this character, could you please give us a catharsis already? Or some form of revenge?
After a while, it stopped being funny & just got frightening.
Still, I gave it an additional star just for this:
" I was looking for serious help and didn't realize that this was a novel and not really a self help book."
While I'm sympathetic to your situation, ma'am, these things usually say "fiction" on the back and are IN THE FICTION SECTION of bookstores, not the self-help section.
Dear Christ.
Really funny, biting satire........2006-02-13
(A Note: Please - don't give this book one star and go off on a rant because you thought it was a self-help book, or a novel, or anything that it's not. A quick flip through the book, or even the first few pages, would show you exactly how this book was written. Maybe this would teach people not to "judge a book by its cover." Har har har.)
This book is hilarious. Each barb hits right on the nose, and makes you laugh and feel sorry for the poor victim at the same time. The whole point of the "lack of character development" is that the character could be anyone - i.e. you. The focus is exactly where it should be - on the hysterical left-handed dark humor of the Underminer.
Great, great book. If you want to laugh, and maybe (maybe?) relate, read it.

Anyone who loves the humorous but hair-raising horror in R.L. Stine's Goosebumps series will devour British author Darren Shan's first novel with equal zeal. Some books are born with a surrounding buzz; this one even has Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling's stamp of approval: "Fast-paced and compelling, full of satisfying macabre touches," she writes. Warner Brothers will be making it into a movie, and the rest of the series is already in the works. Given all that, you'd expect a tour de force! Really, though, Cirque Du Freak is a thrill ride that will keep even the most reluctant readers turning pages, but will never take its place in the literary canon.
Darren Shan, author and narrator, sets the book up as a true story, warning readers: "Real life's nasty. It's cruel.... Evil often wins." Indeed, evil begins to win when Darren and his buddies find a flier for "Cirque Du Freak," a traveling freak show promising performances by the snake-boy, the wolf-man, and Larten Crepsley and his giant spider, Madame Octa. Darren and his friend Steve wouldn't miss it for the world.
So, Saturday night they sneak out to the old theater, tall and dark, with broken windows. "Every act you see tonight is real," croaks Mr. Tall. "Each performer is unique. And none are harmless." That's for sure. (A werewolf bites off the hand of someone in the audience, for instance.) Things grow very serious for the two boys when Steve not only recognizes Mr. Crepsley as a famous vampire, but professes his true desire to join him! To make matters worse, the spider-obsessed Darren goes back to the old theater to steal Madame Octa so he can teach her tricks in his room. (He does, with mixed results.) The plot further coagulates as Darren is faced with some terrible decisions about what to do to save his bloodthirsty friend Steve.
Readers may be too enthralled to notice some clumsy editing (the aforementioned bitten-off hand is later referred to as an arm, Darren stops dead in his tracks when he's already stopped, etc.). They may also not notice that the boys constantly use adult-sounding expressions like "his breath stank to the high heavens," though the book is clearly set in the 21st century. If this book gets under your kids' skin (and it probably will), they're in luck--we haven't heard the last of the Saga of Darren Shan. (Ages 10 and older, not for the faint of heart) --Karin Snelson

This is Darren's story.

Read it, you wont be disaponted.
Fun Freak Show.......2007-07-01
Darren has always loved spiders. So when a secret freak show comes to town that advertises a performing spider, he knows he just has to go. He and his best friend Steve manage to get tickets and in the middle of the night they head to the freak show. Right away things are very creepy, from the host who knows Darren's name without asking to the wolfman who bites off a woman's hand and the robed and hooded creatures who sew the hand back on.
Despite their terror at what is happening around them, Darren and Steve stay until the end of the show. Darren is fascinated by Madame Octa, the performing spider. The man controlling her says she is a practically unknown species and she has deadly poison in her fangs. He uses a flute to calm her and make her do what he wants. Steve is more fascinated by the man controlling her than he is by the spider.
After the show, Steve stays behind and sends Darren home. Instead of going home, Darren hides to watch what happens. Steve confronts the spider tamer, stating that he is a famous vampire. He threatens to tell people unless this man will make him a vampire as well. The man refuses, stating that Steve has evil in his blood.
Darren decides that he can use this information to get what he wants. He sneaks into the freak show early one morning and steals Madame Octa, leaving a note stating he knows who and what the spider tamer is. He is excited and delighted when the spider is really his. But can he control this deadly beast? Will the vampire let him get away with stealing his pet?
I really liked the basic idea of this story. I liked the idea of a freak show full of people with real supernatural powers. I also liked that things didn't all work out well for Darren in the end. His actions ended up having consequences, which was only fair.
The writing in this story bothered me at some points, though. The author used too many exclamation points and often stated things too simply. It felt sometimes like he was talking down to the reader.
Cirque Du Freak Best Book Ever.......2007-06-18
Cirque Du Freak is one of the best books I have ever read. The author did a fantastic job describng all the detail. This book is about a boy named Darren Shan who gets a ticket from one of his friends to go to a mysterious freak show with his best friend Steve Leopard. They snuck out of the house to go see the freak show. When they got to the freak show Steve noticed that there was a man that he knew- a man from a comic book- a vampire! Steve wants to be a vampire too, so after the show he goes to talk to the man. Little did Steve know that Darren was spying on him. Later in the book Steve gets bitten by a spider Darren stole from someone. There is only one way Darren can save his best friend from dying. This book is awesome-you will not stop reading it. Darren Shan will have you glued to your seat in suspense.
good book.......2007-06-16
This actually is a pretty good book. I haven't read any of the other books by this author, but I still enjoyed this book. The beginning of the book wasn't the best, i thought, but after a certain meeting to save a friend, it got interesting. I especially liked the later books in this series. It was worth reading a few boring chapters to get 11 1/2 books worth of action.
Best horror book EVER.......2007-05-31
The name of the book I read was Cirque du Freak: A Living Nightmare written by: Darren Shan. This book is about two kids, Darren and Steve, who go to a freak show late at night that change their lives forever. Darren Shan and Steve Leonard are ordinary kids. Another friend brings a flier advertising Cirque du Freak, a freak show. Steve sneaks out to buy tickets for him and 3 friends but the ticket salesman only sells 2 tickets per flier. Only 2 can go, and 2 will be left behind. This book takes place in several cities in present-day.
This book was for entertainment. This is a great book. I would recommend you to read this book and the whole Cirque du Freak series. The reason this is a good book is it has great characters and it leaves you wondering what's going to happen in the next chapter so you keep reading. That is why I would recommend this book.

Ages 12 and up. Best buds Tibby, Carmen, Lena and Bridget are back with their magical pair of shared jeans in Girls in Pants: The Third Summer of the Sisterhood. Each summer brings new and difficult challenges, as the perennially separated friends discover afresh this last season before college. Tibby struggles with the idea of close friend Brian becoming her boyfriend, and their fragile relationship is soon tested by a tragedy in her immediate family. Carmen doesn't know how to react when she finds out that her middle-aged mom is pregnant, and Bridget is unpleasantly surprised to be reunited with the boy who broke her heart two summers ago. Finally, Lena, still coming to terms with the loss of her first love, tries to convince her strict father that art school is a better career path than Greek restaurant management. But through every crisis, each girl is assured of the love and support of the created sisterhood when she pulls on the denim armor of the cherished, and by now, a bit fragrant ("Rule # 1. You must never wash the Pants.") Traveling Pants.
Full of homey platitudes about life, love and the pursuit of perfect jeans, Girls in Pants occasionally reads like a lengthy Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul entry. But often that's precisely the kind of friendly reassurance female readers are looking for, and fans of the wildly popular series who've journeyed every summer with the "Septembers" will find much to laugh and cry about in this volume. --Jennifer Hubert
Book Description
The Pants first came to us at the perfect moment. That is, when we were splitting up for the first time. It was two summers ago when they first worked their magic, and last summer when they shook up our lives once again. You see, we don’t wear the Pants year-round. We let them rest so they are extra powerful when summer comes. (There was the time this spring when Carmen wore them to her mom’s wedding, but that was a special case.)
Now we’re facing our last summer together. In September we go to college. And it’s not like one of those TV shows where all of us magically turn up at the same college. We’re going to four different colleges in four different cities (but all within four hours of one another—that was our one rule). We’re headed off to start our real lives.
Tomorrow night at Gilda’s we’ll launch the Pants on their third summer voyage. Tomorrow begins the time of our lives. It’s when we’ll need our Pants the most.
From the Hardcover edition.

Another Great Read.......2007-06-27
I stayed up till 3 o'clock in the morning reading this book, it was so good. This 3rd installment in the sisterhood of the traveling pants series was a great, easy summer read. Ann Brashares did another fabulous job on this novel. Once again this one, tells the story of the four girls as they embark on new journeys in life. High school is over and the girls are saddend by the fact that this is their last summer together. Carmen gets a job taking care of Lena's grandmother and she convines the Kiligares to let her go back to Greece. Carmen finds out her mother is pregnant and Tibby helps deliver the baby, while having a strong relationship with Brian. Bridget goes to a soccer camp in Pennslyvania where she mets up again with Diana, her soccer friend, and Eric, former coach whom she has fallen in love with. Bridget gets back to gether with Eric, and things work out great. Lena is caught up with her job and wants to go to art school, which her father doesn't approve of, so she works to get a scholarship and succeeds. Overall this book was another great book written by a great author. You should definitely read this series!
Fast read!!.......2007-04-28
I loved the second and third books of the Sisterhood. (I had to wait for a bit until the fourth one came out but loved that one just as much.) Brashares's writing flows so smoothly - it's a fantastic and realistic take on girls' lives. I'm just heartbroken that this series has come to an end. Other suggested books to get you through the summer: Sunshine by NSLee Sunshine, Stargirl (Readers Circle) by Jerry Spinelli.
Girls in Pants.......2007-04-05
I love the Sisterhood of the Traveling pants books, I can relate to the problems dealing with friends and family. I bet other people will feel the same way after reading this book. Although this was a good book, it wasn't the best out of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series. This book has major suspense. I couldn't put it down because I wanted to know what would happen next in the girls' lives. I recommend this book to people who loved the first two books and, to peolple who love to laugh!
Girls in Pants Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.......2007-04-01
I was pleased that the books just keep getting better and better as the series goes along, I can't wait to read the next one. Awesome read. Highly recommend this series of books.
Abagayle Johnson's Review.......2007-03-09
I liked this book because of the exciting parts in it. Carmen's mom, Christina, is going to have a baby. Bridget goes to a soccer camp to coach a team of her own. When she arrives she finds an unexpected surprise.
Bridget, Lena, Carmen, and Tibby graduate from high school. They have only one summer left before they go off to college. Bridget goes to a soccer camp in Pennsylvania to coach a team. Carmen, Lena, and Tibby stay in Washington D.C. Carmen gets a job watching Valia, Lena's grandmother. Lena's father wanted her close so he made her move. Lena goes to art classes to improve her artistic skills. Tibby gets a job working at a movie theater.
I would recommend this book to someone who enjoys reading about a strong bond between friends and one very special pair of pants. There is also a little bit of romance in the book that I think makes it so wonderful. This is one of the greatest book I have ever read and I know that you will love it to.
This book in my opinion was better than the first and second books. It also had more action and suspense in it which I think makes it better.

Amazon.com's Best of 2001
They were just a soft, ordinary pair of thrift-shop jeans until the four girls took turns trying them on--four girls, that is, who are close friends, about to be parted for the summer, with very different sizes and builds, not to mention backgrounds and personalities. Yet the pants settle on each girl's hips perfectly, making her look sexy and long-legged and feel confident as a teenager can feel. "These are magical Pants!" they realize, and so they make a pact to share them equally, to mail them back and forth over the summer from wherever they are. Beautiful, distant Lena is going to Greece to be with her grandparents; strong, athletic Bridget is off to soccer camp in Baja, California; hot-tempered Carmen plans to have her divorced father all to herself in South Carolina; and Tibby the rebel will be left at home to slave for minimum wage at Wallman's.
Over the summer the Pants come to represent the support of the sisterhood, but they also lead each girl into bruising and ultimately healing confrontations with love and courage, dying and forgiveness. Lena finds her identity in Greece and the courage not to reject love; Bridget gets in over her head with an older camp coach; Carmen finds her father ensconced with a new fiancée and family; and Tibby unwillingly takes on a filmmaking apprentice who is dying of leukemia. Each girl's story is distinct and engrossing, told in a brightly contemporary style. Like the Pants, the reader bounces back and forth among the four unfolding adventures, and the melange is spiced with letters and witty quotes. Ann Brashares has here created four captivating characters and seamlessly interwoven their stories for a young adult novel that is fresh and absorbing. (Ages 12 and older) --Patty Campbell

Lena decides they should all try them on. Whoever they fit best will get them. Nobody knows why, but the pants fit everyone perfectly. This is coming from someone who saw the movie many times before reading the book........2007-10-10
I thought the book was really good. Since I saw the movie many times before hand, I got to see how they took the book and turned it into the movie. Parts of it were very different from the movie. Sometimes what the movie did with the book at a certain part would sound more interesting then what happened in the book, but at other times parts in the book were more interesting then what happened at that part of the movie. You definitely delve more into the characters and can really connect with at least one of the girls. I'm definitely think about reading the next book.

A Great Book.......2007-10-07
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is a great book! I thought that it was very easy to relate to, and it was very fun to read. The book was very emotional at some times, but it also had some humor.
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is about four girls who have been best friends since they were babies. They had never been separated for more than a few weeks, but this summer they were all going somewhere different, except for Tibby. On one of their last days together they found a pair of magical pants. Even though they were all different the pants fit them all, and looked great! They decided that the pants were magical and to pass them around to each other during the summer. That night they made a list of rules, and had a ceremony. The most important rules were to keep them only for a week, unless necessary, to keep in touch, and follow all of the rules.
At first the pants didn't seem at all magical, except for the fact that they fit them all perfectly. On the second time around they began to work. They carried a piece of each girl's strength with them. By the end of the summer all of the girls had experienced tragedy, met new people, and had fun.
I think that this book was very fun to read because I could relate to the story, and a lot of interesting things happened. I also liked the authors writing style. I think that the ending was cut off short, but I think that it was a very good book.

One of those books I love to revisit and reread.......2007-07-05
I originally read "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" by the brilliant writer, Ann Brashares, because I was trying to write a novel for young adults. Hearing such great things about the story and the writing, I was intrigued and wanted to be educated. I was, but I was also entertained. I found the book heartwarming, funny, sad, and one of the best stories I'd read in my life. I am 37 years old, i am not even the target audience, but I do recommend it to both young girls and friends my own age or older. It is a universal story of friendship and how a pair of worn jeans from a thrift shop enriches and excites the summer that the four friends have apart.
Carmen, Tibby, Lena, and Bridget all born within a few weeks, grow up together as friends and learn a lot about life and love all with the pants at their side. It's such a great story and I love Brashares writing. It is straight forward, and told in a true to life way. CAll it chick lit or light reading for summer, but it is just a darn good book and story!
I am rereading the first three books so I can read the new one.
A great feel good book!.......2007-06-26
Ann Brashares' first installment in the sisterhood of the traveling pants series pulls readers into its special charms. This novel tells the story of four girls who are linked together by a special friendship. Its tells of there first summer apart from each other and how a special pair of jeans help them overcome daily hardships. Lena goes to Greece to visit her grandparents. Finally she falls in love with an American born Greek guy named Kostos. Carmen goes to visit her father for the time of her life. Unfortunately, that was ruined when she learned the fact that her dad was engaged to a perfect blonde woman with a family of her own. Bridget goes to a soccer camp in Baja California where she falls in love with one of the coaches, Eric. Unfortunately Eric can't go out wth her because he is a soccer coach there, but he asks if she will give him a chance when she goes to college. She is also saddend by the fact that her mom is dead and she has no one to talk to about her problems, so Lena goes to the camp at the end of her vacation in Greece and helps her out. And last but not least, Tibby stayed at home in Bethesda Maryland. While living a boring life, working at Wallmans, a local supermarket store, Tibby is planning to make a movie. But one day at Wallmans a little girl falls over and soon after Tibby becomes pratically best friends with Bailey, even though she won't admit it. Saddly though, Bailey has leukemia and she dies, leaving Tibby heart broken. Finally in the end the four girls get on with their life, helping each other out, with the help of the pants, together and apart.
Too Much Drama.......2007-06-06
The four of them--Carmen, Tibby, Bee and Lena--have been best friends since before they were born, when their moms took a pregnant aerobics class together. Gradually their mothers grew apart, but the four girls grew closer and closer. They have always spent their summer vacations together, creating memories that were intertwined. This year will be different. Carmen is going to stay with her father for the summer. Bee is going to a soccer camp and Lena is going to stay with her grandparents in Greece. Tibby is the only one staying home and working all summer. They are all sad to be separating for the vacation.
Then they find an amazing pair of thrift-shop jeans. Despite the radically different body shapes of the four girls, the pants look perfect on every single one of them. These pants must have some sort of magic in them. The girls immediately decide that they will have to use the power of these pants. They draw up a contract stating that the pants shouldn't be washed and they agree to send the pants to each other over the course of the summer, so that each one of them can experience the magic and adventure that is sure to follow such a pair of pants.
I liked how this story was told in little episodes from each girl's life. It kept the story moving along really quickly and kept me from getting bogged down in any one story. I also liked how things didn't always work out perfectly in the end; the pants weren't really magical. They were just a tangible example of the friends' love for each other.
The book didn't grab me, though. I thought all of the girls were silly and overly dramatic about their lives and the things they had to deal with this summer. The plot lines were predictable, as was the growth and supposed maturity attained by each of the girls during this story.
