A Must Read.......2007-03-10
The five ancestors series is an incredibly amazing book! I am a personal lover of hard fantasy but Jeff Stone has certainly piqued my interest. I suggest this as a great gift for any avid reader, or just a book for yourself.
Snake is certainly the best book in the series that I have read, and the first two are worth reading just to get to this book! The first five are of course great reads themselves, but Snake is on my favorite reads list. I can't wait to read Crane, the next in the series.
The series takes place in ancient China, after the destruction of Canghzan temple. The only survivors are 5 warrior monks, Fu, Malao, Seh, Hok, and Long, each a master of Tiger, Monkey, Snake, Crane, or Dragon kung-fu respectively.
This is great for any action-lover, fiction reader, or even a fantasty-lover. A must-read for all ages!

From what I can gather, Jeff Stone is quite an author. He supposedly hasn't written any other novels alike this series before, Tiger being his first. I was rather impressed by this, because although I found bit and pieces of his writing slightly cheesy, like books I've read when I was relatively younger, but at the same time strangely good. This is probably what provoked me to read on and become so anxious to read the next book. I have actually just recently finished Snake, and am frustrated that Crane is not available yet. Like the other reviews for this book, I just 'can't wait' for it to come out in stores.
In the first book, Tiger, the main plot of the story is introduced. Most of the reviews have depicted this perfectly. Yes, five young Cangzhen monks escaped the temple's massacre with their Grandmaster's assistance. The Grandmaster's final order to them: Unravel their pasts they have been hidden from for so long. And from there, the journey begins. Fu, Malao, Hok, and Seh all stay back after the intrusion with their own objectives. The only one among them they claim to have not made contant with is Long. Along the way, through books Monkey and Snake, the monks seperate and intertwine with each others' paths, encounter both peculiar and secretive new characters, all the while constructing their own routes to their past, leading on to their fate.
It is getting better than ever!.......2006-06-11
This book is better than the last two because of all the great, awesome action pacts. I was very into the book. In fact, I was so into the book. I finished the book in a couple of days. However, it left so many unknowns after reading Snake, and i cannot wait for the Crane to come out.
FIve Ancestors Snake by Jeff Stone.......2006-04-26
Snake was the most thrilling book yet in the Five Ancestors series.Basically, the whole story starts out at Cangzhen temple where five young monks have to flee after it was destroyed by a traitor. Each of them hurry into a forest and seperate in order to learn about there forgotten past.I like this book the most because it is full of awesome action pact events. BUT, don't feel that's all it's about. It's chock full of secrets that are yet to unfold. I can't wait for Crane to come out.I also suggest you get The previous books in the series which are Tiger and Monkey. Read this book with great care and an open mind.
Snake is the best of the three books so far!.......2006-03-21
I thought the first two books were exciting but this one is really action-packed. If you liked the others you should definately read this one. It takes the story of the five ancestors to all different places. The only thing wrong with the book is that it could be longer. I didn't want it to end. I can't wait for Crane to come out.
Book Description
The truth has been buried for hundreds of years beneath myth, symbolism, and propaganda—but it finally comes to light in these pages and can no longer be denied. This is the story of an extraordinary journey of discovery that uncovers the existence of a serpent-worshipping cult that thrived throughout the world in ancient times and whose influences have permeated all the major religions. The cult’s central rite involved mixing together snake blood and venom in a ceremonial bowl, forging a powerful healing elixir—and the evidence shows that this ritual holds the key to solving such enigmatic mysteries as the Holy Grail, Elixir of Life, Philosopher’s Stone, and the lost city of Atlantis. It’s nothing less than a radical reinterpretation of world history.

Evaluation of The Serpent Grail by Osborn and Gardiner.......2007-08-05
Throughout recorded history, human males have had trouble using their sexuality to benefit themselves and others. Sexual energy and territorial rights have continually been the basis for most wars and human problems, individually and collectively. This book deals with the societies that have learned special ways to sublimate sexual energy.
Little boys always have to learn how, what and when to deal with their penis when sexual energy begins to arise and throughout life this is a problem and has always been a problem with all human males--and consequently females.
This book is easy to read with few technical terms and the terms are explained. Well written, plain and simple with explanations of events following in logical order. Both writers are personally interested in the topic from a layman's approach. I suspect that both authors at some point in their research, perhaps before then, and joined some branch of one of the secret societies. The authors do not deal with the dark side of secret societies nor do they hint of this anywhere in the book.
The Shining Ones refers to those that have gone through an initiation process in which they have learned how to deal with their sexual energies: how to sublimate these energies for social purposes--usually. If the methods are successful, the initiate then becomes an "enlightened or illuminated one"--a Shining One. The Shining One refers mostly to the initiate's inner feeling of energy and enlightenment--a new way of life that was spoken of by Christ and others. The initiate then feels illuminated with new energy; Shining inside, often referred to as the inner light or illumination.
Both writers collaborated also on another book, The Shining Ones, which is about some of the members of these secret societies. This book is about how humans have dealt with their sexual energies: how they have sublimated these energies via special, secret methods. The serpent or snake became a model for the human penis and how special methods allowed these initiates to use their sexual energies to help themselves and others.
Both of these books are well written and present the concepts that are the origins of all secret societies: how humans, particularly men, learn to harness their sexual energy for social purposes (usually social).
A journey into the imagination.......2007-07-01
This is a book which aims to appeal to people's prejudices and fantasies. Lack of proof and quantum leaps to dubious conclusions mark its arguments. It is a singularly unscholarly work where the diving line between fact and fiction is difficult if not impossible to discern. As a serious work it has little merit as a work pandering to people's superstitions and assumptions it may succeed.
Adventure did not ask, but no harm done.......2007-06-03
Another of the genre, "truth behind everything". The title alone is enough to draw one in, yes? Why not say it is a "secret" revealed and sell a few more? From the beginning of the "secret" of the grail it was said that unless "adventure" asked, one should not speak, or in the nascent case, write about the grail. However, when you have missed the proverbial boat by as far as this work does, it makes no difference. The truth is so simple-and that is the only way it can survive. Be entertained, but don't be fooled, as the dog clips your heal, from beginning to end, it would seem....
Another Modern Gnostic Classic.......2007-01-21
THE SERPENT GRAIL is akin to the translation of the Bible into the vernacular. In the latter case the Bible in the West had only been copied in Latin, a language the common person could not understand. Its seventeenth century translation fueled the Protestant Revolution. THE SERPENT GRAIL makes the deepest levels of occult lore accessible to people today who possess a sincere desire to delve into their innermost Self & ancestral roots. Together Gardiner and Osborn have created their own unique individual and collective version of THE GREAT WORK.
Paganism: An Introduction to Earth- Centered Religions
History: Fiction or Science? (Chronology, No. 1)
Knights Templar Encyclopedia: The Essential Guide to the People, Places, Events, and Symbols of the Order of the Temple
Fantastic.......2006-07-24
Regardless of the previous reviewers feminine angle I found this book to be amazingly concise and covering all the aspects, indeed even those supposedly left out. I have also just read Gardiner's new book Secrets of the Serpent, which goes into much more depth. The Serpent Grail is about the Grail and it's links to the serpent worshippers of the past. It reveals the elixir of life and therefore is not a mythological encyclopedia as desired by the previous reviewer. Secrets of the Serpent reveals much more than any other mythological book of the serpent and even comes up against the Da Vinci Code. The Serpent Grail is an amazing new angle on the Grail lore and one that many scholars have reviewed glowingly, so it has to be worth a look.

Book Description
The captivating return of Yashim, the eunuch investigator from the intelligent, elliptical and beguilingly written" (The Times, London) bestseller The Janissary Tree
When a French archaeologist arrives in 1830s Istanbul determined to track down a lost Byzantine treasure, the local Greek communities are uncertain how to react; the man seems dangerously well informed. Yashim Togalu, who so brilliantly solved the mysterious murders in The Janissary Tree, is once again enlisted to investigate. But when the archaeologist’s mutilated body is discovered outside the French embassy, it turns out there is only one suspect: Yashim himself.
The New York Times celebrated The Janissary Tree as “the perfect escapist mystery,” and The Daily Telegraph called it “[A] tremendous first novel . . . Beautifully written, perfectly judged, humane, witty and captivating.”
With The Snake Stone, Jason Goodwin delights us with another transporting romp through the back streets of nineteenth-century Istanbul. Yashim finds himself racing against time once again, to uncover the startling truth behind a shadowy society dedicated to the revival of the Byzantine Empire, encountering along the way such vibrant characters as Lord Byron’s doctor and the sultan’s West Indies–born mother, the Valide. Armed only with a unique sixteenth-century book, the dashing eunuch leads us into a world where the stakes are high, betrayal is death—and the pleasure to the reader is immense.

boooooooring.......2005-11-17
Although the book may have a good story in it somewhere,i found it to be exceptionally boring she dida badjob of holding the readers intrest.I have a surplus of drama in my pointless life and i dont need to here his melencholy crap.I would never recomend this book to anyone, that would be torture
The Snake-Stone.......2003-10-16
The Snake Stone, written by Berlie Doherty, is a unique and fascinating tale of discovery, as one boy goes on the life-altering journey to discover who he really is. Set in England, this overwhelming piece of fiction holds a realistic amount of truth, and allows the reader to believe both the characters and the story. Wonderfully written by Berlie Doherty, author of 'Dear Nobody', it is a novel I strongly recommend, being both entertaining and genuine.
James lives with his adoptive parents, and seems to live a rather normal life. He is both determined and ambitious, training regularly for the Junior National Diving Championship. His life seems to revolve around diving alone . . . Until he discovers the snake-stone.
Suddenly, his deceivingly simple existence is no more. He is thrown in to an adventure that will change his life forever, as he begins the search for his natural-mother. That quiet determination that existed within him previously rises to the surface, driving him through the most frightening of situations, and giving him the strength to overcome his fears.

Good Piece of Writing.......2002-03-02
...P> One thing I liked about this how this might be something someone might do in real life, wonder if their real mother wanted them. And in life someone might try to find this out. In this book he wonders this same question and tries to find her. The methods he uses to find the place his mother was were very realistic. I like how she portrait him as a regular boy in a not so regular situation. He was a regular boy who did unique things but still had regular, not farfetched way of life. He was a regular boy who did regular things, but had something about him that made the story. I didn't like how at some points the story didn't seem to go anywhere. Like during the story before the started his journey a few parts of the story lost my interest in the story. This didn't make me want to hurry back and read the book, but this happens very little and doesn't last long.
This is a good young teenage book for boys or girls. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes general reading. This is a good mellow but interesting book that grabs your attention. I enjoyed this book and I think you might too.
Good Piece of Writing.......2002-03-02
This story is about a boy and his quest to find his mother. It takes place in England during the early to mid 1990's. James is a competitive diver and is very good. He starts his quest when he looks through a box in his parent's closet. Which inside he found clues about his mother and where she is. He tricks his parents to sending him there and his journey begins.

Weird Pets....... Boa Constrictors........2002-10-22
Do you like snakes ? Well you should read this book if you do. Lynn W. Stone has done a fabulous job with this interesting 4 star book and if you are 7 years old to 10 years old, I highly recommend this book. It has many surprising facts about Boa Constrictors like there are over 50 types of Boas or some Boas can grow over 18 feet long. This is a fact filled, interesting book in Lynn M. Stone's weird pet series. That's why you should read this book. Brendan M.
