book of miracles review.......2007-04-11
I enjoyed this book. It gave a very informative picture of what goes on down in Brazil with John of God. I would recomend anybody thinking of going down there should read this book first. An expedition to John of God is not for the lazy or half-hearted spiritual seeker. You are required to excercise self discipline and stick to a restricted diet for 40 days. Often you are invited to sit and meditate for hours at a time. It is not a vacation, but if you are serious about change it would probably be a life changing experience. The book contains many stories about amazing healings that are really inspiring.
Informative & Comprehensive.......2005-08-16
This book is very helpful in introducing the reader to John of God and the Casa and detailing his years of healing. The book is written by a healer who understands the energy and the spirit behind the Casa. Each chapter shares stories of healing from different viewpoints, the writer, the staff, the hopefuls who travel for days by bus to be touched by John of God.
If you believe in spiritual healing this book is right for you.
If you have an inquiring mind, but are unsure, I would recommend you read "Spiritual Alliances" first.
This is an incredible book; but..... ;-).......2002-08-02
This is an incredible book; but some westerners will have a hard time wrapping their minds around part of the information conveyed in this book.
This book relates the story of Joao de Deus (John of God) The Miracle man of Casa de Dom Ignacio (The House of St. Ignatius) located in Brazil.
People visit this healing center from all over the world for healing,
Joao does surgeries without the use of sterile surgical instruments, and not once has an infection or disease been transmitted from one person to another.
Here is the information that people will be unable to wrap their minds around. Joao does these surgeries without anesthesia, and the patients feel no pain during the surgeries with almost no bleeding.
The Casa de Dom Ignacio is also famous for what is called "invisible surgeries" In some of the healing rooms called "current rooms" they sit in chairs or lie down on cots, and place their hands over the area they need an invisible surgery, and many people report finding an incision there later.
I am not going to dismiss any of it because the author seems sincere, and I have seen other things (namely Qigong masters, and some of my healing sessions) that would be every bit as hard for people to wrap their minds around.
For the disbeliever; no amount of proof is adequate. For the experiencer; no amount of proof is necessary.
Aloha nui loa (I love you very much)

Book Description
Walking along the water's edge, who among us has not stopped to admire the evocatively patterned, shaped, and multihued stones that beckon? Fun to collect and free for the taking, beach stones are objects of contemplation, beauty, and sentiment. This exquisite volume-at once a gorgeous art book and a nature guide-presents more than 200 exceptional stones from around the world and describes the fascinating natural processes that produced them.
Photographer and installation artist Josie Iselin, who uses a flatbed scanner to generate her imagery, has arranged these stones with great artistry, and nature writer Margaret Carruthers yields their secrets, revealing, for instance, that a pebble from Maine was created 400 million years ago during the birth of a great mountain range. Art lovers and beachcombing spirits everywhere will cherish this gift book.

Beach Stones by Josie Iselin, Margaret Carruthers.......2007-06-12
This book has beautiful images and interesting text. A good book for people who love the beach. It would make a good coffee table book. I was disappointed in the lack of depth offered by the text. I was hoping for more in depth geologic information, and a greater variety of stones pictured. This is not the book for you if you want an in depth look at geologic process and the mineral composition of stones that wash up on the beach.
Great addition for any rock collection!.......2007-05-02
My Husband and I loved this book so much that we bought 3 and gave away 2 as gifts.
Great table book!.......2007-03-15
I pick it up at least once a week and remember summer vacation, walking on the beach. It is interesting, colorful, full of great pictures and fun for those that enjoy the beach. Answers all the questions that I have about beach rocks and why they look the way that they do.
beach stones.......2006-11-05
both books came around 15 pages in the center that were upside down.
i immediately called and they were replaced without question. i am very happy doing business with amazon

A Magical Book.......2006-10-28
This book will be a source of revelation to anyone interested in the beauty of the natural world. Carruthers' text illuminates, in an engaging and readable way, the geological forces responsible for creating these fascinating stones. An ideal holiday present for both children and adults.
Book Description
Thomas is going on a special trip to the circus, and there are lots of wonderful things to discover along the way--a beautiful hot air balloon, a playful dolphin, and a barrel of monkeys, just to name a few! Lift and peek behind the many flaps and see the hidden surprises. Preschoolers will want to climb on board with this fun transportation shaped flap book, bursting with treasures on every page!
Customer Reviews:
Hooked Our Grandson on Books!.......2007-08-20
This is our 10 month old grandson's first Thomas book and his favorite. The book is just the right size for his fingers to open up the book and the flaps. No concern for storyline as he spends most of the time opening the flaps. Good introduction to books for sitting and crawling babies. One word can describe the hidden object. Will buy more of this type of book for him as well as the touch and feel books.
It's okay.......2006-03-14
My son loved it, of course, as he loves anything Thomas but it's a little boring. We have a full-sized lift-the-flaps book about Thomas which has many trains and lines up perfectly with the pictures under the flaps. That's not the case with this book. The story is short and the pictures in this book just aren't very interesting.
Bad Flaps.......2006-02-25
Great little book except the pictures under the flaps are totally off. This makes it frustrating for little ones to know what they are looking at. Usually Thomas the tank engine stuff is much better quality.
entertaining book.......2005-08-19
My son is a year and a half, and loves Thomas and his friends. Ive bought him several books, but he always brings this one out again and again. He loves to lift the flaps and see the little pictures hiding beneath.
Not very interesting.......2004-01-29
I bought this book for my 19 month old son because he is a great fan of Thomas, but it hasn't proved to be a hit with him or with me. There isn't much of a storyline, and it's barely worth lifting the (very small) flaps, as the pictures underneath are mostly uninteresting and tiny. The colours are also a bit strange (Bertie the bus is brown), and the text does not show the personality of Thomas or any of the other characters. In terms of lift-the-flap, books like "Where's Spot" or "Spot Goes to the Farm", with large flaps and clear, colourful pictures underneath are far superior.

Customer Reviews:
Thorough and easily understood by professionals and casual readers alike.......2006-09-02
I was assigned this book as a student in Hypnosis 101 and still refer to it in my
professional practice. It is well written for the professional yet easily understood
by the casual reader. It is very motivating and gives hope and direction for those wanting to make a change. No wonder it is cited in at least five other texts.
Good Starting Point.......2005-10-03
This book is a really good starting point for a person looking to get involved with the field of clinical hypnosis as Hadley and Staudacher have clearly outlined the basic process. Providing useful inductions and scripts, you could practice with this volume for awhile and then could decide if you wanted to go on to more intensive hands-on practice.
Comprehensive book on hypnosis.......2001-03-11
The author presents an easy to read, interesting and usefull book on hypnosis. I was able to use the historical section for my lectures at various universities. The applications of hypnosis were simple to understand, yet advanced enough to meet the needs of professionals. I was very happy with the way Ms. Hadley explained the cognative approaches to smoking cessation, weight reduction and stress management. I am happy to recommend this book to my students.
Brett K. Steier (Master Clinical Hypnotherapist).......1999-01-17
I liked this book a lot. I feel that it would benefit the novice as well as the professional hypnotherapist. In this book it gives you information on exactly what to do with each situation it talks about. It gives you inductiona as well. It also talks about different type of hypnotic communication, I liked that part. This book would definetly help you along the way while you are studying and practicing hypnotherapy.
Pretty good..........1998-04-01
This was a pretty good book. Actually went a little more in depth about certain health problems and the like than some others that I have read, and it gives a lot of example inductions and other great stuff like that which is good for a beginner...

Excellent Exercise Options.......2007-09-02
Excellent Exercise Options-It's important to know what will work for you and for your situation. Very well explained and good illustrations.
The Breast Cancer survivor's Fitness Plan (Harvard Medical School Guides).......2007-01-11
This book is packed with information. The explanations are clear and easily understood. The exercises recommended are illustrated and instructions are explained in layman's terms. It provided information that I did not receive from my doctor regarding those all important exercises. Ex. Warm Ups after surgery.
I subscribe to the school that knowledge is power and this book provided more information to me that was helpful. I recommend it.
You can be strong!.......2006-08-31
This is a great book for women with breast cancer who want to be strong or stay strong. It has great information on what kind of exercise we need and has specific exercises for our various surgeries. When I started chemo everyone told me that 80% of women gain weight. I was lucky to find a local fitness program for people with cancer (Living Strong Living Well) and I was able to work out during the time I took Taxol. Not only did I not gain weight but I know how to lift weights and feel so strong. This book will now help me get through Tamoxifen and work on being fit for life. Well done!

Nice Pottery Overview.......2007-09-19
This is a very nice overview of a variety of techniques and some rather complex projects. While it is well illustrated, it isn't for the beginner. I've been turning and hand-building for a couple years (spare time hobby) and there are many projects in this book that I admire but don't quite have the skill set to try to emulate.
I do come back to this book every few months, and always learn something new from it.
If you have other Warshaw pottery books, you may notice the same photos/projects appear in this volume.
Book Description
In Josie and Jack, Kelly Braffet gives us a deliciously dark, suspenseful debut novel in the tradition of Patricia Highsmith. Beautiful, brilliant, and inseparable, Josie and Jack Raeburn live a secluded, anarchic existence in their decaying western Pennsylvania home. The only adult in their lives is their rage-prone father, a physicist, whose erratic behavior finally drives them away. Without a moral compass to guide them, Jack leads Josie into a menacing world of wealth, eroticism, and betrayal. His sociopathic tendencies emerge, and soon Josie must decide which is stronger: the love and devotion she feels for her brother or her will to survive. From its opening page to its shocking climax, this contemporary Hansel and Gretel story is compulsively readable and hugely entertaining.
Customer Reviews:
good for its type.......2007-06-19
A good to pretty good coming of age novel, sustained through its weak parts by the elusive, ever-present possibility of incest between the two principals - just enough to banish the banality that some of the set-piece scenes might otherwise create. If you are boarding an airplane, or looking for light engaging summer reading, buy this book.
Exquisitely twisted and fascinating.......2007-04-23
Josie and Jack's world of isolation, manipulation, codpendency, and encompassing--if not fractured--love is thoroughly gripping. While the subject matter might cause some discomfort to some readers, I found the larger idea of their complicated and enduring connection was the heart of the story. The intimacy and dangerously unbreakable bond rose above any of the salacious implications. The author never backed off, she avoided the easy route of making theirs simply an incestuous relationship, but instead gave us much more: a daring, infinity complex, and entangled story in a glaring, unflinching light. The writing is outstanding, lyrical, and vivid. I literally could not put this one down. Dark, beautiful, unexpected, ugly, compelling, and completely fascinating.
What If.......2007-01-28
What if a boy and girl were brought up in isolation from the outside community? The mother is dead, and the father, a university professor is gone from the home five days a week. Dad home schools the children up through their high school years. Except for grocery runs the two of them are alone. Author Braffet is intrigued by this idea, and her view is that the twosome would develop not just a bond with each other, but would develop an unusually strong loving relationship. How strong? Well they seem to have no problem seeing each other naked, and Jack does like to sleep with Josie in her bed at times, but as to the big question of do they or don't they, we are simply teased along with a maybe and maybe not.
When Jack is 18, and Josie 16, he sets her up with the local pharmacist's son in an attempt to persuade him to steal drugs for them. The problem is that Jack becomes violently jealous when Josie develops a relationship with the young man. The two leave home and travel about and end up in New York city. Handsome Jack keeps the two alive by moving in with women who are attracted to him. The deal is, though, that Josie has to move in too.
Author Braffet is very effective in showing the inadequate socialization of these two. After all how do you adjust to society when your first contact with the outside world is in your late teens. How do Josie and Jack cope with the problem that they are totally in love with each other, and have become inseparable? The book proceeds ominously along, with the reader concerned that the two protagonists will not succeed. The story eventually arrives at an ending that is at once surprising and yet not surprising.
Readers looking for a story of "hot" incestual sex will not find it here. It is a fascinating tale of two people who have a warped, disadvantaged upbringing that ill equips them in their struggle for survival. I have never read a book quite like this one; it was an amazing read.
absolutelyl fabulous.......2006-11-12
I just loved this book. This was an absolutely riveting story that I couldn't put down. The author's style was different from anything I've read but it was a well crafted book. I can't wait to read her latest novel. This is definitely worth the purchase price.
Engaging First Novel.......2006-07-30
With Josie and Jack, the ingenious teenage children who pass into the dark woods of this modern take on the Hansel and Grethel fairy tale, Kelly Braffet could not have created a more engaging pair of subjects for her first novel. Their background is delightfully lurid - the offspring of a mad woman and a sour physics professor, they have been raised in seclusion and homeschooled - but Josie and Jack are eerily real. Naive and strange and lonely and dangerous and, best of all, unencumbered by typical moralities, they show us our world through new eyes. And for the most part, it's not a pretty sight.
I can't remember the last time I read a literary debut that was so free of pretension, so assured, and so exciting.
Book Description
After centuries of conflict, a peace treaty has finally been drawn between the warring Saxons and Norse — largely due to the wisdom and bravery of the legendary Viking leader Wolf Hakonson and the noble warrior Lord Hawk.
Hawk and Wolf each married women from warring clans to unite the Saxons and Norse. But for all its blessings, the promise of peace will remain fragile — unless it can be sealed forever by a third and final marriage between these two proud clans....
Come Back to Me
The most feared Viking to come out of the Northlands in a generation or more, Dragon Hakonson, brother to Lord Wolf and friend to Lord Hawk, hopes to steal a few days away by himself before entering into an arranged marriage with a Saxon bride.
But instead of tranquillity, Dragon finds intrigue and passion when he has a chance encounter with a beguiling beauty disguised in boy’s garb. It is clear that the fiery-haired, fiercely willed Rycca is running away from something ... or someone.
Dragon is determined to uncover Rycca’s reasons for escape and see her safely to her destination. Yet rather than surrender herself to Dragon’s care, Rycca dares to defy him, disarm him, and even enchant him.
For Rycca has a secret gift that Dragon cannot see. Stalked by the tragic past, struggling to fulfill the promise of peace, only when it is too late does Dragon discover the truth: that the temptress who has stolen his heart is none other than the woman destined to become his reluctant bride....
Customer Reviews:
Come Back To Me.......2007-10-05
This was the last book in the trilogy, I loved the story and hearing follow up from the previous books. So many others don't catch you up from previous stories. The second in this trilogy felt a bit far fetched for me but it was still well written and left me hoping in the end. A definite must have.
love that Dragon..........2006-07-30
I have read all three books in this series. Boy this one is second best. the first one Dream of Me , was the best , but oh, this one, and DRAGON, WHAT A MAN. His brother Wolf in the first one was Oh la, la, also. Great series. signed avid reader.
Disappointed in heroine.......2006-03-03
After Dream of Me, I imagine it was hard to write two sequels with the same quality and magic, and I was right. Come back to me just did not have a romance I believed was true. Rycca, started out as a good heroine when she was in dressed in drag. She acted as a female warrior, adventurous and willing to feel her emotions. After she put on a dress, she became very whinny and annoying. After marriage, she clearly was still attracted to her husband, knew he had been rejected by her, and she was distant to him. Yet he was still considerate and gentle with her, controlling his sexual desires out of consideration for her strained feelings. However, in a few days at sea, they rekindle their romance and she complains to him that he doesn't touch her anymore. He kisses her and says he will. They promptly arrive home to celebrate their marriage and all seems hunky dory. That night when the time has come for them to make love finally as husband and wife, she gets furious and tries to stop him cos she (in a nutshell) will have too much pleasure under his vast, artful sexual instruction he's received. She somehow equates receiving pleasure with loss of freedom. She needs a shrink badly. Gorgeous, sexy, adorable Dragon has to use battle moves( yes battle strategy) to even get her in a compromising position, so he can finally get her in the mood with enticing foreplay. After a few climax's, she still complains to herself about her freedom, before she launches into the next set of climax's. Why Dragon didn't throw her out is beyond me. That ridiculous belly aching of hers over receiving pleasure from her husband so turned me cold to this couple, that I merely proceeded to glance through the rest of the book. Litton did such a beautiful, gradual, ever unfolding awakening of love in Dream of Me where Cymbra embraced her sexuality and relationship with her husband, Wolf, that the silliness of the other two heroines running away from wonderful men because of self imposed restrictions stood out too much. Even though all ends up well between the couple at the end of this book, their love story is too contrived. It doesn't unfold naturally. So I didn't care about it at all. If you want to see how things turn out for everyone, read this book. Don't bother with the love story. Dragon should have a more centered woman to match his needs in truth.
Same pattern as the other 2 in the trilogy.......2005-07-19
This book was good; it was written well, it just began to sound very similar to the other two books in the trilogy. All three books talked about partners who were afraid of love, and terrified of commitment. All of the men were great and powerful and the women each had some kind of special gift. As I read the last book, I almost wondered if maybe I could have guessed the entire plot.
ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING.......2003-03-27
Read EVERYTHING Josie LItton writes. She is unmatched in her skill to grab you and not let go. You will smell, hear, see and definately wish you could touch everything her characters experience. ALL of her trilogies are magnificent.

Feeling hungry? How about some Snozzcumbers for a snack, or a Fresh Mudburger for dinner? Or perhaps you're in the mood for Stink Bugs' Eggs. Fans of Roald Dahl will recognize his peculiar culinary inventions from his many books--now, these dubious delights are collected all together in Roald Dahl's Revolting Recipes, a compendium of dishes that sound worse than they really are. Stink Bug Eggs, for example, are really deviled eggs with some food coloring and a special, added ingredient (parmesan cheese or asafetida) to make them particularly aromatic. Mr. Twit's Beard Food consists of mashed potatoes, hard-boiled eggs, mushrooms, and cocktail franks cunningly arranged. Each recipe is simple to make, many are delightfully disgusting to contemplate, but all are easy on the palate. Roald Dahl himself would have been delighted to eat these ravishingly revolting recipes.
Book Description
Who but Roald Dahl could think up such mouthwatering and deliciously disgusting foods as Lickable Wallpaper, Stink Bugs Eggs, and Eatable Pillows? Now theres a practical guide to making these and other delicacies featured in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,James and the Giant Peach, and Dahl's other books, with easy, step-by-step recipes that range from the delectable to the truly revolting. Quentin Blake's illustrations combine with full-color photographs of the luscious results to perfectly capture Roald Dahls wicked sense of fun. "Deliciously playful.Dahl, one suspects, would have been tickled." -- Publishers Weekly The late Roald Dahl was one of the most beloved storytellers of all time. Quentin Blake has illustrated more than a dozen books by Roald Dahl.

Fun and inspirational!.......2006-12-31
We got this cookbook for our 7 year old daughter for Christmas because she is a huge fan of Roald Dahl's books. She instantly went crazy for this cookbook, and even her 3 year old brother is fascinated by it. The recipes are so much fun, and the pictures are a wonderful combination of food photos and illustrations. We've already enjoyed the book so much that our daughter has decided to have a Roald Dahl party for her birthday in March, featuring snacks and foods from the cookbook. We are even planning on making goody-bags for the guests with several yummy treats inside. I'm so glad we found this cookbook and can enjoy it as a family!
Try the bird pie!.......2006-01-18
My family and I have had loads of fun making Roald Dahl's recipes. We are eager to try all of them and think it is an ingenious accompaniment to Roald Dahl's wonderful books. It is wonderful because it has everything from the snozzcumbers from The BFG to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory's lickable wallpaper. It is a great shame that Roald Dahl is not here today to be able to cook from this book.
Delicous recipes it is!.......2005-11-23
Roald dahl has finally made a little much of a cookbook. Try some of his awesome recipes and taste it. It's awfully delicous!!!

Roald Dahl, the famous story teller. Customer Reviews:
This book died a slow death .......2006-12-28
Josie, a mystery shopper in St. Louis finds herself in the middle of a murder mystery when a client of hers ends up dead. The first third of the book explains quite a bit about Josie, her mother, her daughter, and her current romantic relationship. But, the mystery itself isn't very interesting. The dead guy is Mel, a shoe salesman with a shoe fetish, but... that's not very interesting. This book lacks ... spark, and it started to be very boring at about page 100. The plot was disjointed, characters were tossed in and out without focusing too much on who they were and why they were significant. and Josie really doesn't make for a good mystery-solver. The cover is cute (my mistake), but the plot and writing are poor. I'd recommend High Heels and Homicide for a really great mystery/romance read. Skip this one.
Pretty Good.......2006-12-04
I love Elaine Viets' books, but I haven't been too thrilled with her mystery shopper series. This one was better than the previous one, but still not as good as her first series.
Josie's not very bright, and is somewhat immature for a single, self-sufficient mother. Hopefully, however, the series will get better as it goes along by allowing her to develop more.
Something's Afoot!.......2006-11-21
The Mystery Shopper series gets better with each installment. This time Josie, the amateur sleuth is trailing the murderer of a shoe salesman with a foot fetish. For added fun, Josie discovers that her snobby childhood rival is involved in a most embarrasing way. Don't we love to take down the Miss Perfects in our lives! Elaine Viets, a longtime St. Louis columnist, writes with authentic local flavor and humor. This is not heavy literature-- it's just a funny and entertaining page turner.
an entertainging cozy.......2006-11-14
Mystery shopper Josie Marcus returns for yet another entertaining and intriguing mystery installment, "High Heels Are Murder," which, initially, starts off innocently enough with Josie being hired to discover if there was something really nasty about Soft Shoe's top salesman, Mel Poulaine, handling of the female customers' feet and shoes. The last thing Josie expected was that her report would have repercussions that would impact on her personally.
For as long as she can remember, Josie's detestable nosy neighbour, Mrs. Mueller, has looked down her nose at her. And for as long as she can remember, Mrs. Mueller's only daughter, Cheryl (who just happens to be the same as age as Josie) has been held up as a standard of perfection to which Josie could never aspire. So that when Mel Poulaine, the shoe salesman that Josie had exposed as a foot fetishist, and who was fired from his job because of his inappropriate behaviour towards customers, is found murdered in his home, the last thing Josie expected was for Mrs. Mueller to come knocking on her door, begging for her help. Bizarrely enough, Cheryl, Mrs. Mueller's perfect daughter, is the prime suspect in Mel's murder -- and not only that, but the police are also sure that Cheryl and Mel were having a sexual relationship. Mrs. Mueller is sure that this is not the case and that Cheryl is a victim of circumstance, ands she wants Josie to help prove Cheryl's innocence. Agreeing to help only if Mrs. Mueller agrees to get her mother the chair of two committees her mother has had an eye on for decades, Josie sets off, with her best friend, Alyce, in tow, to discover who hated Mel enough to kill him, and finds herself uncovering all kinds of dark secrets, addictions and perversions that the rich and powerful would kill to protect...
"High Heels Are Murder" was a very entertaining and engaging read. The mystery plot is well thought out, even if the suspense is not always there -- this may have something to do with the pacing which while swift enough, was a tad uneven. However, Elaine Viets did keep me guessing till the end as to who-did-it and why, and I didn't feel cheated with the way she tied things up at all. All in all, this was a fun read. I found myself mentally cheering for Josie throughout the novel, and would count "High Heels Are Murder" as another mystery novel well worth the money spent.
funny amateur sleuth .......2006-11-10
Josie Marcus is a single mom who lives with her own mother for a reduced rent and has a job she loves even if it doesn't pay well. She is a mystery shopper, one of those anonymous customers who visit a store to learn why an employer gets too many complaints. An employer calls the firm Josie works for and her boss assigns her to investigate Mel, a salesman at Soft Shoe. When she follows him to the back room and sees what he is about to do sexually to her shoe she files a bad report and he is fired.
A couple of days later Mel is found murdered at his palatial estate. Mrs. Mueller, Josie's nosy neighbor tells her that her daughter Cheryl has been questioned by the police because evidence shows she was there. Her neighbor hires Josie to prove her daughter is innocent. Josie finds Cheryl is a gambling addict, and is part of a slave fetish ring by Mel to make money for women who need extra money. When Mel's housekeeper is killed and Cheryl is connected to Mel's murder Josie finds her life in danger from a killer who is protecting someone else and doesn't want Josie finding out and revealing that secret.
Elaine Viets has written one of the funniest amateur sleuth mysteries to come along in ages. Her protagonist is a thoroughly likeable person, a great mother, daughter and friend who does the right things for the right reasons, even when they make her uncomfortable. There is a lot of action in HIGH HEELS ARE MURDER but the strength and the freshness of the tale lies in the characters who are realistic and believable.
