Customer Reviews:
Great Analysis, but Not Specific Enough.......2007-10-12
This is a great book if you want a thorough analysis as to why people develop and perpetuate self-defeating behaviors. However, as far as correcting these behaviors, I did not find this book to be specific enough. To correct these behaviors, the authors say to rectify faulty conclusions (which was very helpful) and then come up with a replacement technique (which was not specific enough.) I feel like purchasing a book about your own specific self-defeating behavior would be better for finding a replacement technique because this book discusses self-defeating behaviors generally. For example, for a behavior like procrastination, no real ideas were given as to what could be an effective replacement technique. You can't replace procrastination with another replacement "activity" because the whole point is to get back to studying. (ie: for a compulsive shopper, instead of going shopping, the example was that she spent quality time with her kids.) Though this book has its flaws depending on what your self defeating behavior is, it is definitely an informative read.
=Not Sure~.......2007-05-29
I stumbled upon this book after reading Dr Phil's Self Matters and Harrison M's Self Power for Teens; i found it informitive but trite as it lacked in originality and freshness. With that said, Milton does make clear the steps and keys to free yourself from habits, compulsions, feeling, and attitudes that hold you back - much like Dr Phil's 'be accountable attitude' and Harrison M's 'Powerful Change Techniques'. Furthermore, and in odd-counterpoint, i feel that Milton has gained a habit of gross generalization, which comes across in both impact and subtlness throughout his well-crafted prose. All and all, a good read, and a good stepping stone to other teachers ... make the investment although it may leave you unsure.
Life Changing.......2007-05-13
When I purchased "Self-Defeating Behaviors: Free Yourself from the Habits, Compulsions, Feeldings, and Attitudes that hold you Back" I had expected very this to be a slow process. Nevertheless, to my surprise this was an instant transformation. The book was written in a way that openned my eyes to just how easy it was to change or shift my mental conditioning for the better. I keep this book handy so I can refresh myself about some of the self-defeating behaviors and how they are associated with other things or beliefs. Outstanding book, I highly recommend it for someone that is ready to take that giant step forward to change their life.
From a coach and athlete.......2006-11-25
This is a great book for homing in on the things in our minds and actions that keep us from really performing at our best. I have long been an advocate of changing to make things better in the sports arena and this book is a great tool to have available.
A true "How To" very practically written.......2006-10-11
I've yet to finish reading it (procrastination is one of my bad behaviors :) but about 3/4 through I can't say enough about this book. Too many books give you fluff, whereas this is a good blend of real life illustrative stories from their patients, along with what I really wanted... practical how-to steps along with a thorough description of how & why we learn and practice the behaviors we so abhor in ourselves. I already knew I was "choosing" my bad behaviors, but hadn't found anything that described why I was making such bad choices, and how to stop. This is none of that self hypnosis mumbo jumbo, but real suggestions on how to identify what you are doing and why, and then to catch yourself, and methodically replace bad behaviors with good ones.

Book Description
As all these people become publishers – and even more become blog readers – the nature of the material being produced has moved into the realms of politics, professions and consumerism. For example, “Engadget” is one of the more popular blogs, a daily review of newfangled and exciting gadgets.
Blogs and Blogging in business are relatively new, so new that there simply are no rules. If there were rules, they would be changing and evolving too rapidly to codify. The best anyone can say is “here is some advice based on what is working today, combined with a good dollop of common sense.” As a result, this topic fits the What No One Ever Tells You series format perfectly!
Despite their “newness,” blogs have rapidly proven themselves in business. They serve several functions valiantly, including: communicating with customers, potential customers, and other stakeholders, as a research tool to help uncover what is being said about you, your company, your competitors, and your industry, and even as a type of broadcast medium as some are making significant money by monetizing blog traffic through advertising and other means. Instead of offering our advice on blogs and blogging in business, in this book we offer advice from 101 people who are successfully harnessing the power of blogging.
Customer Reviews:
Lots of Ideas.......2007-09-06
I've just started my blog on technology investigations called "Hack-igations". I was looking for ideas on how to make the most of my blog, and Demopoulos' book was a big help. It's full of stories about the experiences of other bloggers. The stories give me a sense for blogging culture; they help me fix realistic expectations about what my blog can and cannot do for me.
More of the same
.......2007-07-27
Unfortunately, this book is like so many books on blogging and other Web ventures:
1. It promises "insider information."
2. It's a thrown together compendium of the writings of Web marketing "gurus," most of whose only real experience is in marketing their own purported expertise in Web marketing.
3. From reading it, one does glean a few good ideas.
... and like all the others, it will be useful to those who are new to the field. To use an old saying, it's like a Texas longhorn: a point here, a point there, and a lot of bull in between.
A Great Toolbox For The Beginner Blogger.......2007-07-19
A book like this isn't about chewing through pages merely for the purpose of consuming knowledge on social networking. It's for the impassioned evangelist seeking to inspire others to action with nothing more than the seed of thought. The author has taken all these great relationships he's cultivated with winning bloggers around the world and compacted them into tiny, bite-sized chunks of expert advice. Based only on what I read in the book I've developed a blog (..) that within three weeks has attracted about 600 visitors including the attention of more than a few key industry people. And, the book is a great resource to review every once in a while to keep you focused on what works.
Worth a Quick Read.......2007-07-06
This book will take most readers about 101 minutes to read. It is designed in 101 very short chapters of about a page each. In fact each chapter it much like a Blog post. It is a series of interviews with commentary based on the author's discussions with 101 blog writers/experts. I got several ideas from it. It sent me off to the computer to find some of these bloggers. It inspired me to make a post or two. The content on podcasting is a handful of these short chapters. It is well worth a look, but it is not likely something one would read a second time.
A solid effort by Mr. Demopoulos.......2007-05-10
As a person with an interest in blogging and podcasting, this book gave me enough information and anecdotes to keep me entertained and informed.
The book uses individual stories from a diverse set of people in the industry as jumping off points for each given topic area. Grounding each theme in a real person's story provides useful context. The short chapters keep things moving without any unnecessary clutter.
If you are a techno-savvy reader, not everything in the book will be new information, but the author has probed enough nooks and crannies of the topic to unearth more than a few gems.
It's well worth your time if you want to stretch your brain in this area.

Customer Reviews:
Packs a powerful amount of knowledge in a very readable book!.......2007-05-08
I've now read the book several times over the last few weeks. John is a talented author and businessman who writes in a style that is for the "rest of us" trying to understand marketing strategies in a very competitive world. The book is highly recommended for those that want to find a way to differentiate themselves on the online marketplace. Canon BJC-85 Portable Color Bubble Jet Printer
This book is really very good........2006-12-20
I was amazed at how much punch this little book packs. I have read other importing books that give you all the technical details of importing - but they don't help me make a decision. And with the huge number of decisions that are needed, I felt overwhelmed at the prospect of starting an import business after reading other books.
However, Mr Tennant cuts through all the crap and limits his scope to what a small startup should realistically aim at. In doing so, he provided answers to decisions to be made and provides "why" he chose that option over a few others by showing pros and cons - all in very few words. You can also see Mr Tennant's empirical knowledge on the business by some very insightful reasoning on his part that goes against the mainstream - all with compelling arguments for doing so.
I really learned a great deal.
Loved it! - very practical and motivating.......2005-10-04
This book was the perfect fit. It provided very direct, useful information without being too wordy. It was also fun to ready. It inspired me to get started with my own business!
Best book I have read in months.......2005-05-25
This is the best, most practical book on starting your own import business I have ever read. I think the advice on "creating barriers to entry" is brilliantly easy to understand and execute to. It is not a "how to be an eBay seller" general guide, but provides specific advice around picking products that have more limited competition given the logistics of moving that product. For instance, selling large outdoor children's playsets, which can't be shipped by UPS, naturally reduces your competition, so that you aren't among 1000 others selling the same thing on eBay. This is a guide, not encyclopedia, emphasizing quality over quantity, and is well worth the price.
Great organization and brevity.......2005-05-13
Great organization and brevity. Ideal for busy people who want to get right to the point. Nice format, easy to carry around. Good content on eBay spoofing / phishing, and protecting yourself as an eBay seller. Highly recommended!! Very up to date.

Dr. Norman Vincent Peale - Reincarnated.......2007-02-10
After reading this material and hearing Dr. Tice speak, one truth is validated by this book: There is nothing new under the sun. As a theologian, it greatly disturbs me when I read Tice quoting the Bible without formally citing the inspired text -giving credit where credit belongs. His oversights extends with much of Dr. Norman Vincent Peales writings and sermons as well.
The one crucial truth that Tice conspicuously ignores is the depravity of man. Somehow he can't quite bring himself to the reality of the human state --we're all born into the world with a spiritual birth defect called sin and we are in need of divine intervention. He's popular with educators (preferrably middle to high income areas) where the science of positive thinking has appeal. I wish Tice would quote C.S. Lewis.
These positive thinking spins are still very valid however (at least to the degree they are biblical). It's hard not to question the motives of a man who fails to give credit to true sources and someone who lives a very lavish lifestyle.
This Doctor --is the quintessential "spin Doctor" --a theological wantabe and mercenary who packages someone else's work while passing it off as his own, with a new age flair.
Long-Time Fan of Lou Tice.......2007-02-07
My first experience with Lou Tice was in a Corporate Training session in Portland, Oregon in 1978. I really resonated with his approach to personal growth then and when I recently ran across Smart Talk for Achieving Your Potential: 5 Steps to Get You from Here to There, I immediately bought it and highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in continuous personal growth as I am.
See and create.......2006-07-09
Makes sense of the concept of "Dreaming to Succeed". Great for all of those 'Hard' psychologists who can't stand 'positive thinking'. Along with Robbins, Tice is the man for achieving your potential.
If you don't know Lou-you don't know jack about yourself.......2002-03-20
Lou Tice is the world' best kept secret. If you read at all about personal and professional growth, don't miss any of Lou's work. In addition to writing, he walks the talk and lives life like what is in between the covers of this book. Like the commercial for a certain spaghetti sauce years ago, "it's in there"--everything you could want to know on how to make your mind your tool instead of your master.
Lou Tice is great.......2000-03-10
I took a class in college that included "Thought Patterns for a Successful Career" by Lou Tice. The man is truly motivational. I highly suggest that more people read his work. It's inspirational!

This book was O.K. There were many ideas to choose from but only a few good ones. Plus, there isn't much information on each business. You could find more ideas and a lot more information for free on the Internet.

If you've ever dreamed of owning your own business but don't want to be tied down to a brick and mortar building, then this is the book for you. Starting an Internet business could not be easier with the help of the information provided. The book starts with interview information from three successful Internet businesses and then follows that with how to get your point across, the various formats for a storefront, required features of the successful storefront, payment options, and levels of e-business. From there it moves to helping determine what is important to you and how to use that to find the right business for you. From there it moves to the profiles of successful businesses. These profiles are complete with how to market the business, startup costs, skills needed, online examples, etc. It finally concludes with information on how to build your site, get it submitted to search engines, e-mail marketing, using links and pretty much just about everything that you need to know in order to get the business up and running.
Susan Sweeney, the owner of an international Internet firm, has produced a very thorough and easy to understand book. Probably the best book available today on starting an Internet business from scratch, it is a highly recommended read.

Book Description
Mommy Mantras are phrases you can say in your head, or out loud if you need to, during those trying moments of mothering. They act to empower you, revive you, and remind you that there is always another way to see your situation. Buddhist-inspired and psychologically grounded, these snippets of wisdom come through entertaining and universal stories of unpredictable life with children.
Here are a few examples of how a mantra can help you control your reactions to those mothering circumstances largely out of your control:
When it seems like everyone else's children are better behaved (and doesn’t it always feel that way?), you can remind yourself to
narrow your focus, or stop comparing your children to others, which is only bound to make you miserable.
When the monotony of caring for a toddler gets to you, remembering to
surrender to the goat, as one mother did when her son insisted on feeding the same goat at the petting zoo every day, for hours, will help you recognize the importance of being in the moment, and will help you endure and even enjoy the sometimes tedious routines.
When you begin to resent that you do more housework than your spouse, despite your best intentions and all the nagging in the world, you can learn
to ignore the score, or let go of keeping track, which can become an unhealthy (and unhelpful) obsession.
When your mantras seem to fail you, you can always remind yourself that
I am not Buddha. Motherhood is not something we can master. We can only try to be more mindful. Even so, some days are harder than others. Mantras are the deceptively simple words we can use to diffuse stress and choose appropriate, constructive behavior so we can recognize ourselves, find our center and be more mindful and compassionate mothers.
Customer Reviews:
Smart, Mindful Parenting Tools.......2007-08-29
During these "trying twos" months, I've had by my side this book and it has helped keep me sane. I recommend it to both dads and moms (even people without kids). The authors validate the physical and emotional challenges of raising children or dealing with major life transitions while at the same time giving you simple tools for dealing with your needs, emotions and growing pains in a mindful way. They keep it real, too, always noting that none of us are saints or Buddhas, and that sometimes we gotta ask for help or put our kids' needs aside so we can do the dishes or take a break. These mantras are helping to keep me mindful in all my relationships.
The book is divided into short little chapters, perfect for skipping around or revisiting. Although, I have enjoyed reading it from front to back, as some of the insights build on those in previous pages. Right now, my favorite mantra is "Embrace the goat." It's based on a story about a woman whose son always wanted to do the same thing at the zoo: pet the goat the entire time. The mantra reminds me to stay present in the moment even when it seems mundane or endless. It reminds me that my child notices when I'm not present and wishing to be somewhere else. Being mindful of this, I've seen an immediate shift in my enjoyment level with my son, and he has noticed this as well. It seems like he breaks fewer rules (like throwing toys into the fireplace) when I'm mindfully present and he can see my full, undivided attention in my eyes and face.
Bought as a gift and well received!.......2007-01-28
What can I say - bought it for our daughter as a gift: she has two children - and she says it is very good and helpful. I believe her!
What a Wonderful Book!!.......2006-05-22
Mommy Mantras is such a positive and inspiring book! While realistically acknowledging that motherhood can be stressful, mundane, and scary, the authors nevertheless strongly concentrate on the positive aspects of motherhood too, and offer numerous ways to turn any negative situation around!! It is a book that parents can repeatedly return to for guidance, inspiration, and laughs!!
Not to be missed..........2006-05-17
A terrific book for first time (or fifth time!) moms. Meaningful and accessible, the authors distill critical parenting themes into mantras that can be pondered and used at difficult or stressful times. The fact that the foibles and frustrations of the authors themselves are used for discussion make this especially entertaining.
The perfect baby shower gift, and one that will be appreciated for years...
a wonderful book, even for non- mommies!.......2006-04-05
I loved this book; I found the affirmations helpful, informative, witty and clever!
As a non-mommy and elementary educator, I was able to make vital connections and greatly enjoy the book on many levels. Dr. Dillon's guidance can offer insight into family and inter-personal relationships, shedding useful light on the stages of our lives.
This is a sensitive and welcome little must-have book..
for mommies and non-mommies alike!

Book Description
"The complexity of business in economically demanding times makes finding constructive angels that much more challenging. The advice and tips in Attracting Capital from Angels are, therefore, invaluable. The wisdom offered here is not just for start-ups or neophytes, but is a well-timed companion to already existing resources and approaches to helping a business in all phases of development. It's also a great manual for people who want to share their knowledge (and invest capital) as an angel. I plan to recommend Attracting Capital from Angels to every entrepreneur I run into in the future who asks for mentoring sources. Great job!"

Customer Reviews:
Fabulous resource for entrepreneurs.......2005-08-04
How to find angel investors, how to approach them, what they look for, why they invest - it's all here. Not just one person's opinion, "Attracting Capital" is based on solid research and interviews with over 30 accredited investors. If you only buy one book on angel investors, make sure it's this one.
A complete waste of time and money. .......2005-01-23
I am planning a new business, and payed for this book, along with express shipping, since it is very topical. I feel cheated since the book is completely worthless. My only consolation is writing this review.
There is not enough information in this book to make a newspaper article. Aside from very short interviews with Angels that are scattered randomly among the pages, the book consists of constant repitition of a few very simple ideas:
1. Angels invest their own money, VC invest other peoples
2. Some Angels may be able to help you with your business. Some may not.
3. Don't waste potential investors time, make sure your business plan is short and reasonable.
Thats the whole book. Many other reviewers (who signed themselves "A Reader") praised this book. I have to question their impartiality.
If you are planning a new business and looking for investors, I can offer you some free and valuable advice. Don't waste your time reading this book.
Attracting Capital from Angels is invaluable........2003-04-21
"The complexity of business in economically demanding times makes finding constructive angels that much more challenging. The advice and tips in Attracting Capital from Angels are, therefore, invaluable. The wisdom offered here is not just for start-ups or neophytes, but is a well-timed companion to already existing resources and approaches to helping a business in all phases of development. It's also a great manual for people who want to share their knowledge (and invest capital) as an angel. I plan to recommend Attracting Capital from Angels to every entrepreneur I run into in the future who asks for mentoring sources. Great job!" (Bob Bozeman, General Partner, Angel Investors, LP)
Anecdote collection that lacks depth.......2003-02-25
I would recommend this book only to the complete novice to angel and venture investing. I was hoping for more details regarding the angel investing process. One thing it teaches, though, is that angel investors are much less sophisticated and organized than professional venture capitalists (the way I understood it). What it feels like is a collection of experiences with the interpretation left mostly to the reader. Great if that's what you're looking for.
Fresh and original...a must read on an important topic.......2002-08-24
A real gem! In over 35 years as a serial entrepreneur, investment banker and angel investor, I've come across dozens of books addressing various aspects of raising money, writing a business plan and/or finding investors. Most rehash existing theories and consolidate existing sources of research and advice on the topic. Brian and Dee have done a remarkable job of gathering fresh information through direct interviews, original essays and new surveys. The result is a truly enlightening, useful and very readable work which should become The Bible for anyone thinking of starting a business, financing an existing one, or investing as an angel themselves.
A must read even for someone just interested in learning more about Angel Investing, a little known area of our economy which just happens to be one of the most powerful drivers of our free enterprise system.

Book Description
Praise for Frank McKinney
"My neighbor, Frank McKinney, is certainly a maverick and a spiritually grounded young man. The oceanfront homes he builds here in Florida are magnificent and unique. More important, Frank's life and the contributions he makes to his community and the world illustrate how a successful businessman can do well while doing good. The principles in Frank McKinney's Maverick Approach to Real Estate Success represent a road map of his achievements—a proven strategy for succeeding not just in real estate, but also in the business of life."
—Rich DeVos, cofounder of Amway, owner of the Orlando Magic
"If you're ready to make big profits in real estate, then read, absorb, and use the brilliance of Frank McKinney."
—Mark Victor Hansen, coauthor of The One Minute Millionaire
"Frank McKinney's book is an excellent how-to guide to earning real estate profits by using McKinney's maverick formulas to find undervalued real estate with profit potential. McKinney is different. This isn't another how-to-get-rich-in-real-estate book. Instead, it is the lively success story of a real estate maverick. McKinney reveals his simple strategies, with intriguing personal profit examples that explain how his repeatable techniques work over and over."
—Robert J. Bruss, syndicated real estate columnist
"If Hollywood were casting the role of a maverick who started with very little and went from a $50,000 fixer-upper to a $100 million mansion, they would choose Frank McKinney. Frank McKinney's Maverick Approach to Real Estate Success represents his approach to life. He decided to apply that approach to real estate and look what happened!"
—Kendra Todd, winner of The Apprentice
Download Description
Maverick real estate wisdom from the King of Ready Made Dream Homes, a one-of-a-kind real estate artist Frank McKinney is no ordinary real estate entrepreneur, and the mansions he creates are far from ordinary either. The world's most successful builder of on-spec luxury estate homes, he recently sold a mansion on Palm Beach's exclusive Atlantic coast for a whopping $50 million! And now, at only 41, he is undertaking his most ambitious project to date a magnificent estate he plans to sell for between $100 and $120 million! But McKinney didn't start out at the top; 20 years ago he began his career by purchasing foreclosed fixer-uppers and turning them into $50,000 homes for first-time buyers. From there he worked his way up to the luxurious, oceanfront mansions he builds today. Frank's approach has always been that of a maverick and it works. Now, in Frank McKinney's Maverick Approach to Real Estate Success, McKinney shares his real estate secrets so that every investor has a chance to become the next maverick real estate success story. Whether readers are interested in single-family homes, entry-priced fixer-uppers, million-dollar mansions, or anything in between, McKinney offers the kind of unconventional wisdom they won't learn in any seminar. Using real stories and examples from his own career, McKinney shows investors how he made it to the top and how they can too by becoming a name brand in their community and building their own market rather than following one. Offering real-world insight with a never-say-die attitude, this book shares the proven strategies of a true real estate maverick. Frank McKinney (Delray Beach, FL) is the number one developer and spec creator of ultra-luxurious residential homes in the world. He has been featured on Oprah, CBSs The Early Show, the Travel Channel, CNN, the Discovery Channel, and Paul Harvey's radio show to name a few. He is also the author of the bestselling book Make It BIG!: 49 Secrets for Building a Life of Extreme Success (0-471-44399-9).

Honest, Truthful, Practical Advice on Real Estate Investing.......2007-09-11
Great book on how to get started in real estate by "creating your own market" I read this book cover to cover in one sitting. Frank describes how it is not easy to invest, and take risks, and do research... but this is all essential to be a success. I should know, I've done 13 properties in 4 years and a lot of what he talks about is what I've experienced. Especially, taking responsibility to market and sell your own properties, whether you use a realtor or not. This is a MUST READ for any one considering investing in real estate!
Didn't care for the book.......2007-05-07
I suppose the book has some value, but I didn't care for it. The author does get the reader to think outside the box. The book isn't like most real estate investment "flip" books written today. If you're interesting in flipping, there are several better books to get you started. If your a novice, this book is not applicable to you other than it's potential motivational aspects or feel good attitude. Spend your energy, time, and money on other flipping books.
A different approach with meticulous execution........2007-03-28
Mr. McKenney's credo has to be (to paraphrase Dan Kennedy about how to be successful in businss), "look at what all your competition is doing, and do the exact opposite". In addition to being a wonderful follow-up to McKinney's first book "Make It Big", this book gives a virtual roadmap of how to succeed in producing and selling anything, whether it be your own home or a $125 million spec luxury home (McKinney's current project). Those of us who have been around real estate for a few years know that most folks in the business have a couple of bad habits. (1) They are driven by their payday, not the customer's needs, and (2) there are few leaders; most follow the herd into the abyss. McKinney's philosophy is the opposite to the real estate norm. He demands you understand your customer, understand your property, and leave nothing to chance. In fact, this book is a great road map for succeeding in any business or in life. Now-if we can just get the big boys at Chrysler, Ford, and GM to read and understand McKinney's philosophy and execution, there may be an old-line domestic auto manufacturer left in the U.S. If you want improve your business (any type), buy the book new (to support McKinney's Caring House Foundation), and execute like he does.
Be More Successful in Real Estate by Reading This Book!.......2006-07-22
This book was excellent and included tons of information about how Frank has taken his business to an extreme level of success. It covers how he got started by dealing with tiny starter homes where he "made a market" for slightly nicer than average properties and grew it into becoming the most successful ocean front spec home developer in the country.
I took tons of information out of this book and I go to it for reference frequently, since there is so much information inside about how you can improve almost every aspect of your Real Estate Investing Business. Well done Frank! Buy this book and read it several times if you want to make more money and become more successful as a Real Estate Investor...it has helped me tremendously. Dave.
Excellent Advice From The World's #1 Real Estate Maverick.......2006-07-13
Frank McKinney's approach to real estate investing is something to be treasured. His advice on work ethic and being different may have been talked about in other books, but the part on creating your own market place alone is worth the price of admission.

Book Description
As Microsoft Office users are converting to OpenOffice.org in droves due to a wide difference in price and no onerous licensing or restrictive installation and activation requirements, this timely guide to making this switch helps MS Office users get up to speed quickly. With the goal of preventing Office users from becoming bogged down and spending a lot of time learning how OpenOffice.org's functionality differs, this book allows them to accomplish what they can already do in Microsoft Office with their new office suite. Covered are the installation and configuration of OOo, file compatibility, exchange, and layouts. Writer, Calc, Impress, and Draw are also discussed as replacements for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Paint along with hundreds of tips on using them in day-to-day work. The capabilities of OOo Math are demonstrated, as is the OOo application programming interface.
Customer Reviews:
A thorough and timely book.......2006-12-19
I've been a unapologetic Microsoft Word fanatic since 1991. But OpenOffice 2.x got good fast, and with its adoption of the universal and ISO-certified OASIS OpenDocument Format (ODF), suddenly it has the upper hand against Word 2007 -- in format, usability (yes, I said it), and power, having the ability to create documents twice the size of Word 2007. But "OOoSwitch: 501 Things You Want to Know..." demonstrates how OpenOffice can match Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and make switching a breeze. The price is steep, but surprisingly, it's worth every penny to this former Word fanboy.
Don't let the title throw you.......2006-09-19
Yes it does answer questions for those that are switching from MS Office. More to the point, in doing so fulfills the need for a very good "how to" for OOo.
Even though it's becoming a bit dated, there is much still relevant to todays Open Office program. We can sit around waiting for the software author's (Solveig Haugland) publisher (Prentice Hall) to see the necessity for the long anticipated OpenOffice.org 2.x Resource Kit. In the mean time this book as well as some of the other published books on the subject actually can help and do so well. The price is ridiculous even though Amazon has the best price. You might try one of the second-hand sellers with good reputations on Amazon Marketplace. READ DESCRIPTIONS, READ FEEDBACK. My free advice / open source contribution. Even with shipping you'll save.

This gets the job done.......2005-12-15
If you know how to do a task in Word, then you can quickly look up how to do it in Write. The language is simple and easy to use. My Mother liked it so much, that she took my copy.
OOoSwitch: 501 Things You Wanted To Know About Switching to OpenOffice.org from Microsoft Office.......2005-07-23
Few of us have time to read a guide book cover-to-cover, so it's nice to find one that's well-organized. This one is! OpenOffice.org is a new product/project that's still ironing out problems and making improvements. If you can't find what you need within this book, it also gives the website for the reader/user to ask questions and even invites their input.
The switch got easier especially for Novices.......2003-11-27
For those of us coming from an MS world, it helps with any new software to have assistance to overcome the learning curve. OOoSwitch jumpstarts the "trial and error" learning curve methodology by showing the differences and similarities between MS Office and OpenOffice.org.
The PDF feature in OOo would be reason enough to endure the learning curve, but OOoSwitch makes the transition fairly painless. By pointing out tasks I've already mastered in MS Office, I'm becoming reasonbly proficent in OOo.
Good book for experienced MS Office users and noncomputer types.
