Book Description

Jodi Picoult's novels have been hailed as "engrossing" (People) and "addictively readable" (Entertainment Weekly). Now, the author of Salem Falls and Plain Truth examines the fault lines of a troubled marriage in Picture Perfect-an "unfailingly intelligent...undeniably literary psychological drama."(Booklist)

"Picoult writes with an all-knowing and piercing eye. Hers is an important book from a talented writer we hope to hear from again and again." (Library Journal)

To the outside world, they seem to have it all. Cassie Barrett, a renowned anthropologist, and Alex Rivers, one of Hollywood's hottest actors, met on the set of a motion picture in Africa. They shared childhood tales, toasted the future, and declared their love in a fairy-tale wedding. But when they return to California, something alters the picture of their perfect marriage. A frightening pattern is taking shape-a cycle of hurt, denial, and promises, thinly veiled by glamour. Torn between fear and something that resembles love, Cassie wrestles with questions she never dreamed she would face: How can she leave? Then again, how can she stay?

4 out of 5 stars Early Picoult different than the Picoult of 2007.......2007-09-30

It's refreshing to go back and read a Jodi Picoult novel that is one of her first. There isn't a looming courtroom drama unfolding in this book. There isn't depressing jailhouse/prison scenes that make me think that I would die if I ever ended up in prison. This book instead investigates a relationship between a man and a woman, and what happens when love becomes demanding and possessive. I wish Picoult would go back to writing more like this, and she almost did in The Tenth Circle: A Novel. I guess I'm just so tired of constantly seeing moral dilemmas played out in courtrooms. I would like to see her attack these subjects without someone having to constantly commit a crime and do the time. If you want something else of her's to read that doesn't involve courtroom drama, read Harvesting the Heart: A Novel.

5 out of 5 stars Picture Perfect.......2007-08-20

Jodi Picoult definitely didn't disappoint me with this book. I love the way an abusive relationship was portrayed... it shows that it's not her fault that she stayed with him, and that you can still love someone who hurts you. But it also shows that things aren't always what they seem, and that things that are "Picture Perfect" can also have problems. Cassie's marriage to Alex is full of love, but also full of hate. But the hate isn't directed towards each other.

I don't know why, but I loved this book. Not as much as My Sister's Keeper or The Pact, but definitely more than The Tenth Circle.

1 out of 5 stars Very disappointing...........2007-08-13

Jodi Picoult came highly recommended to me from a book editor friend and so I ran to the store to pick up "Picture Perfect". What a waste! The writing was very choppy and non-sensical at times. In addition, I found it very difficult to believe any of the characters. The ending was quick, lame and overall anti-climatic. It left me feeling like, "I wasted all this time reading this for what?". I'm not sure about the other Jodi Picoult books, but this one makes me not even want to waste any time reading the others.

3 out of 5 stars A Jodi Picoult Fan.......2007-08-13

I have really enjoyed all of Jodi Picoult's books so far. However, this one didn't keep my interest. It was okay, but not great.

3 out of 5 stars Plain Truth was better, but still a wonderful story from Jodi.......2007-06-13

I have read Jodi Picoult's "Plain Truth" and several of her other novels and I thought Picture Perfect was a wonderful story, but I didn't think the writing was a good as the book Plain Truth. There are numerous excellent reviews that detail the story so I won't add more print. However, I thought the story moved along at a brisk pace and overall it was a wonderful story. I'm not losing faith in Jodi; I'll still purchase her next novel, with a view towards that Picture Perfect being a temporary setback in her storytelling abilities.

4 out of 5 stars Found our baby's name in this book!.......2007-09-11

This is a great book for the analytical choosy type. We went through every name in the book and actually found the name for our son. We wanted to make sure we picked a rare name, and this book is a BIG help in finding those rarely used names.

1 out of 5 stars boring.......2007-09-09

too long. i have no idea what the point of this book was. i hated it so much i couldn't get through the first chapter.

5 out of 5 stars addictive reading.......2007-09-08

Much more helpful than a simple catalog of names, this book also makes extremely interesting reading. Why are some names ragingly popular, and why does a name appeal to us? How has a name historically risen and fallen in popularity? I can't begin to count the number of hours before bed I've spent reading this book.

Naming a child is a lovely responsibility. I think this book helps more than any other in making a decision that respects the individuality of the child, as well as the indulgences of the parents.

5 out of 5 stars Very helpful.......2007-08-21

I loved this book. I went through so many name books before I found this one. The categories are fun to read through. I did not know that my name and the one I was considering for my daughter were highly popular in the 70s. All my Aunts' names were the "happy" names of the 50s. This book has very few uncommon names. If you are looking for something ethnic, this might disappoint. It didn't even have "Jolene" but it's pretty easy to guess what the meaning of that is. Because I was looking for a more normal name (even Anica, which I loved, sounded too foreign for my girl) this book was refreshing. I found the perfect name that fit all the categories I liked: Heather.

5 out of 5 stars Great book!.......2007-08-17

I love this book! The author does more than define the names listed. She categorizes them, she shows recent trends, lists similar names to suggest alternatives, and she gives her opinion of each name without insulting or talking down to the reader. It's a great book for soon-to-be parents or anyone that's interested in names. The only slight problem is the fact that the book has been out for about two years, so the trends shown may no longer be entirely accurate, but you'll still be able to get a general idea of the popularity (or lack thereof).

Book Description

While most of us have moments of loving freely and openly, it is often hard to sustain this where it matters most—in our intimate relationships. Why, if love is so great and powerful, are human relationships so challenging and difficult? If love is the source of happiness and joy, why is it so hard to open to it fully and let it govern our lives? In this book, John Welwood addresses these questions and shows us how to overcome the most fundamental obstacle that keeps us from experiencing love's full flowering in our lives. Perfect Love, Imperfect Relationships begins by showing how all our relational problems arise out of a universal, core wounding around love that affects not only our personal relationships but the quality of life in our world as a whole. This wounding shows up as a pervasive mood of unlove—a deep sense that we are not intrinsically lovable just as we are. And this shuts down our capacity to trust, so that even though we may hunger for love, we have difficulty opening to it and letting it circulate freely through us. This book takes the reader on a powerful journey of healing and transformation that involves learning to embrace our humanness and appreciate the imperfections of our relationships as trail-markers along the path to great love. It sets forth a process for releasing deep-seated grievances we hold against others for not loving us better and against ourselves for not being better loved. And it shows how our longing to be loved can magnetize the great love that will free us from looking to others to find ourselves. Written with penetrating realism and a fresh, lyrical style that honors the subtlety and richness of our relationship to love itself, this revolutionary book offers profound and practical guidance for healing our lives as well as our embattled world.

4 out of 5 stars Perfect Love..........2007-10-13

i have to admit my psychotherapist recommended this book for me to read. i just wouldn't have picked this up on my own. it has taken me a while to read through this book. usually i whiz through them but being this book really hits home it has helped me work through certain issues. it's not that it is hard to read - it is an easy read - but he asks you to feel the pain you are going through so that you are able to heal... he challenges through the whole book to deal with your inner issues and embrace them (weird, huh?) so you may love yourself and heal. i know it sounds like a bit of psychobable but as i kept reading the book it made me realize certain issues that i was holding... i still have two more chapters to go but i do recommend this book. hope this review helps you.

5 out of 5 stars For anyone who has loved and lost.......2007-07-07

This is a great book. Very helpful in finding the self love it takes to forgive yourself when you fail in a relationship.
One of my favorites.

4 out of 5 stars Great Couples Tool.......2007-07-06

Whether or not you agree with everything said, this is a worthy investment of time and energy.

4 out of 5 stars Healing oneself is key to all relationships, whether romantic, familial, or platonic.......2007-06-28

Pyschotherapist John Welwood's thesis is that discord in relationships stems from an internal doubt, a worry that, at our core, we are an unlovable person. His book is about this "mood of unlove" and practical exercises for healing ourselves to lead to healthier loving relationships. He uses anecdotal sketches to illustrate his principles of healing and transformation in chapters on interpersonal relationships, grievance, self-love, and finding perfect love.

One must have an open mind and be ready for new-age language and exercises to benefit from this book. To me, it seems that healing oneself is key to all relationships, whether romantic, familial, or platonic, so this book offers more than just romantic relationship advice.

Book Description

The three biggest trends in weddings today are simplicity, personalization, and color. Wedding design expert Karen Bussen highlights these elements as she shows couples how to design their own weddings without going crazy or broke.

Simple Stunning Weddings is the first wedding design book to focus on the where of the wedding. Location is the first and most important decision brides and grooms must make: everything else flows from that. Bussen showcases 12 popular wedding settings, including the city loft, country inn, art gallery, botanic garden, and private club, and demonstrates how to make them extraordinary. With the site as the starting point, she creates unifying themes with color, flowers, and personal touches. She explains how to deal with vendors, how to spend the wedding budget, and when it makes sense to hire a specialist.

Sharing all her trade secrets, Bussen teaches the power of simplicity and the impact of color, which can be tailored to any budget, always to stunning effect: substituting cotton tablecloths for silk in the same eye-dazzling color combinations, for example, or creating striking flower arrangements using only one or two types of blooms. Whether for a barefoot union on a beach or a formal affair in a hotel ballroom, this fully illustrated, information-filled book is like having Bussen on hand as your personal wedding designer. AUTHOR BIO: KAREN BUSSEN is one of Manhattan's most exciting wedding designers. Her work has been featured in such magazines as Modern Bride, Martha Stewart Weddings, Home, Food & Wine, and Interior Design. In the past six years, she has designed more than 100 weddings.

ELLEN SILVERMAN's photographs have appeared in Charmed Bracelets and New Soul Cooking (both STC).

5 out of 5 stars My Wedding Planning Bible.......2007-08-17

I used this book to plan my wedding that happened in May '07, which was done without a wedding planner. My wedding was held in a historic, beautiful synagogue and historic beautiful hotel (similar to the country club chapter). So many of our guests have commented directly to us or my parents about how beautiful our wedding was -- and I have to say this book helped me more than any other. Simple Stunning Weddings guided most of my decor decisions over the 9 months that I spent planning our wedding.

For starters, I used this book to communicate with my florist -- it was extremely helpful for that. So many of my friends and family have commented on how stunning our flowers were -- we used fresh seasonal flowers in colors that suited our venue but they were of a style and in containers similar to the ones presented here.

In addition, her ideas about where to splurge and where to save for a given venue were invaluable. Not only did they save money, but they also saved time and stress.

Her suggestion of bringing old family photos into a reception site was one of the biggest hits of my wedding -- both my husband and I found old photographs of our family going back to the early 20th century and had them displayed on a large table. People couldn't stop talking about them -- not just our relatives, but friends too. That suggestion cost us about $50 -- how great is that? Her idea to hire a swing band to harmonize with the classic space was another giant hit -- the dance floor was full until the band stopped at midnight.

I didn't copy her ideas, rather I adapted them for the synagogue and ballrooms that we used -- and I found it quite easy to do so. It is so easy to be overwhelmed by all the choices around planning a wedding -- everything from table linens to wineglasses to lighting to picking a band -- it was wonderful to have her photos and text to guide and influence our decisions.

I spent nine months being fairly wedding obsessed while planning our wedding -- I purchased many books and magazines, spent lots of time figuring out our options and looking around for ideas, and I have to say that the ideas presented here were the best resource I found. My other favorite book (in a very different vein) was Bridal Bargains -- it's discussions on how to hire vendors from photographers to caterers to dress shops informed and influenced all of our vendor selections. By doing so I hired great vendors right away and avoided many of the hassles that my friends went through while planning their weddings. I'm not sure how much money I saved through their suggestions, but they really do understand what good vendors look like -- which was tremendously helpful.

5 out of 5 stars Incredibly Tasteful and Creative Ideas.......2007-07-15

This book is excellent for both engaged couples planning their weddings, and those who want to plan weddings as a career. The colors and shapes of each spread give them a strong impact without becoming tacky and flamboyant. I highly recommend it!

5 out of 5 stars GREAT.......2007-07-05

As a wedding assistant, this book has become almost a bible to me. Ideas inside have been the building blocks of several weddings within the last two months.
GREAT

5 out of 5 stars Amazing!.......2007-02-11

This book is absolutely amazing. It has so many beautiful pictures and such easy tips to follow for your own wedding.

4 out of 5 stars Fine Simplicity.......2006-01-15

The books offers simple, colorful pictures to indulge yourself in and set up in the most organized fashion. I was surprised at how much information it actually offered once I started reading the book. The text goes beyond the design efforts of the wedding and takes you into the scheduling of the wedding, the tasks that will be developed throughout the preparation of the wedding, wedding day preparations, tips on selecting the the venue & dealing with the people involved and just basic advice on every single detail. I found the book very helpful since it was seperated in different chapters according to the type of venues. The floral ideas were amazing since it offered simplicity using color tactics rather than quantity tactics. I only wished there were more weddings per each theme to compare. Such as three different 'vineyard' weddings, so it would offer more ideas within each particular theme.

Book Description

“You speak for all of us who are tearing our hair out about the generation that separates us from our beloved grandchildren.” —Grandma Sally, Moorestown, New Jersey Being a grandmother, writes Bryna Nelson Paston, is not one of life's free choices. “You can pick your pet, your alma mater, and your spouse. You can decide when to have kids and how many, if you're careful. You can be a doctor, lawyer, mountain climber, or plumber. But when and where you become a grandma is your kids' decision.”

Becoming a grandma is like getting a subpoena. You don't expect it. You don't know how to respond. You know you must be mature and accept it. Being a grandma, though, is as close as many of us ever get to perfection. There is only one little problem—the generation in the middle. “Dealing with your child and his or her spouse while you become the most relevant person in your grandchild's life is tricky at best and downright impossible at worst.”

From that unique point of view, Paston has written a delightful book that explains the rules for grandmothers to assure they will be an important part of their grandchildren's lives. “We have a window of opportunity as grandparents,” she writes, “usually five years, or maybe more if you're lucky. So you have to make your move fast and decisively. Your kids and their spouses will intrude, interrupt, and interfere. But persevere. Circumvent them, do exactly what you want, and lie—with dignity, I might add. Whatever it takes. Promise anything, but get the kid.”

How to Be the Perfect Grandma is a humorous, anecdotal gift book for grandmothers, grandmothers-to-be, grandmother wannabes, anyone who has a grandmother—and, of course, grandfathers. FAMILY; GRANDPARENTS ILLUSTRATED 51/2” X 61/2”, 144 PAGES HARDCOVER

5 out of 5 stars Finally - 'Nana' gets it!.......2007-05-18

This little book was very helpful with my frustrations and gave me a better understanding of where my place is. It made me laugh and gave me several ah-ha moments. I was extremely close to my own Mother-in-law, so I couldn't figure out why things were going as they were when my son had children. This is a must have for the Grandma on Daddy's side.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect Mother's Day gift.......2004-05-04

It's the perfect gift for the daughter or daughter-in-law in your life. This amusing and realistic set of incidents illustrates the dynamics of extended family life from a grandmother's viewpoint. It will make the reader laugh and cry. It's more than a one-time read. It's the book you will look at over the years to always find a new insight into living with grandchildren and their parents. "Perfect grandmas" always buy this book for adult children and their spouses.

5 out of 5 stars Great Gift for New Grandmom.......2004-04-13

I bought this book and fell down laughing, so I bought it for all my friends, new grandmas, experienced grandmas, even one grandma-to-be.The author has shared her anecdotes and they are hysterical. In the mix, are tips on grandmothering and advice on how to follow the rules laid down by our grandchildren's parents without losing our minds. If you like humor with an edge, you'll love this book.

1 out of 5 stars I beg to differ...this book is not that funny.......2003-09-19

I bought this book, planning to give it to my mother-in-law, who is a grandmother-to-be (I'm 3 months pregnant). It had gotten positive reviews from others, and sounded cute and humorous. After reading it, however, I did not find it cute or humorous. It is basically a collection of one grandmother's anecdotes about two of her grandkids, along with quasi-generalized advice about being a grandmother. I understand that some of the book was meant to be written with a satirical tone, but advice such as, "never let anything bad happen to the kids on your watch...but as we all know bad things happen to good grandmothers...if it's just you and the child, lie," and "check with your grandchildren to make sure you are winning the grandma race [against the child's other grandma]...if...they say they like the other one better, buy them something they've been wanting..." just doesn't strike me as being very funny--more like irresponsible and mean-spirited. I suppose some readers will find this humorous, but this definitely is not my brand of humor.

5 out of 5 stars Giggled out loud..................2003-08-20

while reading this book---I didn't put it down once I started...very short reading..only about an hour or two. I especially like the chapter about how being the Mom's Mom gives you automatic rights to the child! Since this is my first Grandchild, and it is my daughter giving bith, I'M IN!!! Loved it!! It is a perfect little book for a Grandma-to-be....I've already passed it along to a few friends.

This is such an easy to read and pleasant book. It is very non-threatening and easy to understand. It has a very well organized format. Highly recommeded!

4 out of 5 stars Enlightening..........2005-09-22

I think this book is very insightful in alternative ways of parenting. It makes you stand back a minute and think of how your child might percieve our parental actions. Often it is hard for an adult to see through the eyes of a child. This helps a bit. It is not something that you need to strictly adhere to, they are ideas that you may try to incorporate into your style of parenting. Whether you are going the Waldorf route or not, I think many parents can gather insight about parenting from this...(A side note to the tub cleaning reviewer - try biodegradable cleaning products or give your son a bucket full of soapy water and a sponge, or a spray bottle filled with plain water, he doesn't need to know that he doesn't have the same cleaning solution that you do...it's the fact that he wants to clean with you...someday he won't want to do all these things with you...and you'll fondly look back on the times that he did - that we all need to remember.)

2 out of 5 stars The Perfect Wedding Cake.......2006-06-16

As an experienced cake decorator looking for new ideas, I was not impressed with this book. The examples were a bit staid. I would not even recommend it for new bakers since there are no explicit guidelines for making the decorations, constructing the cakes, etc. I would recommend The Well Decorated Cake by Toba Garrett. The instructions are simple and easy to follow even for the novice. And the recipes are wonderful. I have tested almost every one and had great results the first time.

2 out of 5 stars Not impressed.......2003-07-02

Sadly, I was extremely underwhelmed by this book. It is just a collection of some above-average cake decorating. There are no instructions on how to make the sugar paste flowers or decorations. A better book would be Margaret Braun's Cakewalk. This book, however, is great for beginners or clueless brides. For us pastry folks, I recommend you pass on it.

3 out of 5 stars Coffee Table Book.......2003-06-15

Nice coffee table book for wedding planners and cake decorators.

5 out of 5 stars perfect trust.......2007-01-30

this is totally a book a christian can read and get alot out of it, but especially for someone searching or a non-christian could get something from it and find God through it. I intend to have several copies on hand to give to someone who needs a little comfort in knowing God is there for them and they are not alone.

4 out of 5 stars Profoundly helpful.......2006-07-14

This is an excellent little book of thoughts on the nature of trust. It's profound yet attention-grabbing; written in bite-sized chapters - which, taken a piece at a time, make encouraging and positive 'thought food' for a day. Well written and a good buy for the discerning reader.

5 out of 5 stars Inspiring Reading.......2004-01-21

"In order to trust God we must view our adverse circumstances through eyes of faith, not our senses," we're told in the first few pages of this wonderful book. Chuck Swindoll goes on to tell us how to do that. He describes people who reflect a quiet, peaceful calm as being those individuals who have cultivated a perfect trust in God. Such a mindset liberates one to be the distinctive person God intended.

Swindoll writes from a profoundly deep perspective. Only an author who has been tested himself could write the following:
"God has trusted each of us with our own set of unfair circumstances and unexplained experiences to deal with. Can we still trust in Him even if He never tell us why?"
He goes on to answer the question he posed by saying, "..it's good simply because God Himself has allowed it. Acceptance is resting in God's goodness."

Job of the Old Testament is used to illustrate complete acceptance of God's will. Job trusted God totally, although he did not understand what was occurring in his life.

Read the section on worry. He offers five problems associated with it that enable you to see its deceptive powers. He also helps you to overcome it. I strongly recommend this book. It will deepen your relationship with God if you read it with the proper mindset.

5 out of 5 stars Always Trust in the Lord!!!.......2003-06-20

To date, I have purchased a quantity of 35 of this wonderful, inspirational book! It has helped me in untold ways, and all those I have gifted this book to, have raved of its healing powers and beauty.

The message is simple in its reminder to always have perfect trust in God. Thank you Pastor Swindoll, for this beautiful gift you have written for us!

2 out of 5 stars Not written by D, but another in household.......2002-12-31

This book is inspiring in the way that it encourages people to trust God. Perhaps I should've given it two stars but what dissappointed me within reading the first two pages were the statements of"....we deserve judgement" and "he was a 'godly' fugitive". Perhaps being a little over-analytical or precise I would like to comment that man, himself is not godly. Thus, using the word "godly" to discribe someone who wishes to follow "God's ways" should not be described as "godly" due to its misleading implications. Second of all, the book should be precise on "we deserve judgement". Yes it is true that Jesus Christ is Lord of All and that this book has much good coming from it's pages, but one must wonder if the good that is meant to encourage can be ruined with inaccurate text that does not coalign with scripture. God is the righteous judge and although we do not deserve His mercy, He is a God most of all of Love & Truth. Please understand that I am not bashing this book. There are a lot of encouraging passages, but the "spider scenario" and other statements are misleading and do not rely all on scripture. One should still satisfy ones curiosity and may do so in "borrowing" this book. But in order for one to be a "careful" and "passionate" christian one should not be afraid to question what one is reading.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars great book!.......2007-03-08

I just received this book today and have already read completely through it. I had my husband go through it and highlight all the things he wanted me to work on. I think this book is going to be great for my marriage. Great book!

4 out of 5 stars Fuel for the Newlywed Soul.......2007-01-04

This book is by no means a wonderpill for awful relationships or a bible for the newlyweds, but no book really is. What this serves as is more of a running start for people who plan to stay together forever. The advice is sound and badly needed, although some of the "experts" have been divorced several times. Other than that, it's a solid four out of five as far as good advice for long, loving relationships. And the reader doesn't feel like they're being psychoanalyzed by a book. This is the healthy marriage book for people who don't want to be therapied to death.

4 out of 5 stars good ideas.......2004-09-02

There are many good ideas throughout this book. Some are obvious, but still a good bit of information. You can learn how to be the wife your husband desires. There is not a lot of depth, however. It is a collection of quotes and nothing more. Why not ask your husband how you can be his perfect wife?

5 out of 5 stars Filled with gold nuggets for improving your relationship.......2004-04-23

As an Author, Coach, and Motivational Speaker I read alot of books about people, their motivations, and their relationships. Wow, How to Be the Almost Perfect Wife is a guys version of a relationship conversation. It's short, direct, and impactful.

Ladies, please read and act on the items listed in this book. Some of the most important for me are:

** Be my cheerleader. Believe that I have the talent to achieve my dreams, even if it takes longer than I ever imagined.

** I love it when you just listen to show you understand. I also love it when you challenge me with a different perspective.

** If I want to go to bed later than you it doesn't mean I don't love you. It means I want to go to bed later than you.

** Pounce on me unexpectedly

Get a copy of this book and use it in your relationship for fun, for passion, and for romance.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful!.......2003-07-21

This book and the companion book, "How to be the Almost Perfect Husband" are absolutely wonderful. As a couples therapist, these are the things that often come up that men and women want one another to know about. This is great for men to read, to better understand women and also to understand how universal their needs are. I recommend both of these books highly! These are both my new gifts for bridal showers, weddings, and anniversaries. I just love them!!

Product Description

From trips to self-centered therapists, to mothers experimenting with Ritalin, to the harsh reality of school calls (no good can come from them), Shut Up About . . Your Perfect Kid! bravely ventures where other books haven't, featuring humorous, heartwarming stories from a wide range of parents of "imperfect" children. Narrated by two "imperfect" sisters and mothers of children with Asperger's syndrome and bipolar disorder, the book features a compilation of stories that demonstrate the sheer humor and absurdity of raising imperfect children in a perfection-preoccupied world. It will have virtually any parent laughing out loud and appreciating the gifts and beauty that every child has to offer (yes, even imperfect ones).

4 out of 5 stars Review for perfect kid.......2007-07-26

As a child with learning disabilities, this book was of great interest to me. Although the writing style was mediocre and at times tacky (for example, quotes from teenagers excessively use the word "like" in an attempt to sound humorous, but instead they come across as simply annoying), in general the book was rather charming. The constant mocking of the attitudes of parents with "perfect" children is really what makes the book shine. It brings a comfort to a reader who has lived with or is raising a child who is living with learning disabilities or mental illnesses. I recommend this book not only to people who have learning disabled children but to parents of the so called "perfect" children who may be ignorantly hurting the feelings of the "imperfect" around them.

5 out of 5 stars A must read for parents of a challenged child.......2007-05-25

This is no "make lemons into lemonade" book! These two sisters open their hearts and their homes to the world to share an exceptionally honest and insightful approach to raising children with challenges. You'll laugh, and you'll cry. This is also a great read for parents who DON'T have children with special needs - so they can have a better understanding of what it is like...and then maybe they'll "shut up about their perfect child!" Way to go sisters! I've never read a book that was so heartfelt, and raw, and truthful! And I commend both the writers for having the strength to keep their families intact regardless of the many hurdles they've needed to overcome, and what is most impressive is their ability to find the dark humor during very difficult circumstances. Buy your copy TODAY!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Great Book - Easy Read.......2007-05-09

This book is meant to entertain (or destress) parents that have a child with a learning disability. Nice to know that you're not alone and that others can laugh along with you.

5 out of 5 stars I laughed, I cried, and then I laughed some more!.......2007-04-11

This book truly is the "best medicine for parents of imperfect kids" and lets face it, that means anyone whose a parent. Set up in short story fashion, the book is easy to read, and I find myself going back to it to recall various passages. Although the authors have clearly experienced the pain and anguish of the realization that their children will follow their own unique path, the beauty in the book is that they realize that it's okay and even a blessing. Cheers to the ladies who had the foresight and energy to share their touching and often amusing stories of their children.

5 out of 5 stars Don't Judge A Book By It's Cover.......2007-04-10

Finally! A book that understands exactly how I feel on the days when I think there is no hope in sight and that I can laugh at some of the bumps in the road.
