Book Description

When Silas Heap unSeals a forgotten room in the Palace, he releases the ghost of a Queen who lived five hundred years earlier. Queen Etheldredda is as awful in death as she was in life, and she's still up to no good. Her diabolical plan to give herself everlasting life requires Jenna's compliance, Septimus's disappearance, and the talents of her son, Marcellus Pye, a famous Alchemist and Physician. And if Queen Etheldredda's plot involves Jenna and Septimus, then it will surely involve Nicko, Alther Mella, Marcia Overstrand, Beetle, Stanley, Sarah, Silas, Spit Fyre, Aunt Zelda, and all of the other wacky, wonderful characters that made magyk and flyte so memorable.

With heart-stopping action and a dash of humor, Angie Sage continues the fantastical journey of Septimus Heap.

Get Magyk and Flyte (Books one and two) Then get this one! Fun and interesting series. Bought them for my daughter but I enjoyed them too.

2 out of 5 stars Falling Flat........2007-09-24

NOTE: I did not like this book, so if you are a die-hard fan of Sage and the sieris i suggest hiding this review.

After captivating you with her last two books. Sage's attempt at a story is laughable.

The writing style that gripped her readers in Flyte and Magick does not appear in Physic. The people seemed to have lost their flames and senses of humors, Snorri and the Queen have no death to either of them. Each has a chapter devoted to them but they are loosely explained and the chapters tell nothing.

Worser still is the fact that most of the Heap family is not even int he book. lovable Silas Heap and Motherly Sarah heap are in the background, the book does not seem complete and the series looks unprofessional.

The plot is confusing and always makes you re read passages and wonder what is going on. The word choice is good but overly done, there is none of the simplicity that was so endearing about Magyk and Flyte.

The book is a real put downer. After Sage's steller novels you would expect something a little more high class and gripping. For fans of the siearies, I suggest pretending that this book did not exist. It si a dissaponment to her fans.

I sincerely hope that Sage recaptures the magyk in next novel.

5 out of 5 stars Physik - A Great Read for Septimus Heap Lovers!.......2007-08-24

This was by far the best of the Septimus Heap series! If you have read Magyk and Flyte then you must read Physik! The plot is very in depth and exciting and new characters are introduced that you will come to love as much as Jenna and Septimus. What a wonderful book and hopefully there will be another in the series!

5 out of 5 stars Keep Septimus Coming!.......2007-06-27

I am a school teacher and my students were all reading the Septimus Heap series of books. I decided to read them as well, and they are FANTASTIC! I was disappointed that Physik was the last of the series(so far), I want to keep reading about him!

5 out of 5 stars A True Winner: Angie Sage Writes Great Fantasy Fiction.......2007-09-17

The entire series Magyk (Septimus Heap, Book 1), Flyte (Septimus Heap, Book 2), and Physik (Septimus Heap, Book 3) by Angie Sage are fast-paced, non-stop fantasy adventures for middle aged readers. Book Four: Queste, will be released in the UK in April 2008. If you miss Harry Potter, you will not be disappointed with the discovery of Septimus Heap and the world of the Ramblings. I would even go so far as to say that Angie Sage is a better writer in terms of plot and pacing. The perfect gift for children ages 9 to 12 (or adults who still miss Harry) and love the world of magic and adventure. Happy reading!

3 out of 5 stars Ok book.......2007-08-14

Contrary to many of the reviewers, the book wasn't anything special and lacks the magic of Harry Potter. I was convinced by the reviews to buy this book even though I wasn't sure if I really wanted to buy it and readit. However , it is still a pageturner.I found the magic spells abd creatures to be cool. I doubt I will be buying any of the many sequels. This book is about the Heap family, whose adopted daughter is wanted dead along with them since she is the queen's daughter. The Supreme Custodian and his evil servants are hot on their trail.Towards the end of the book, we dicover who is and what has happened to Septimus Heap.

1 out of 5 stars Don't be hoodwinked by the good reviews.......2007-07-06

I bought this book after being persuaded by the dozens of excellent reviews, even though I'd never seen it recommended anywhere else. Magyk is Angie Sage's first novel -- and it shows. If bad writing bothers you, even a little, stay very far away from this book. Even your average fantasy novel is miles ahead of this stuff.

My children (15, 12, 9 and 7) are sophisticated readers and they all had strong negative reactions to this awful book.

Sage is an appallingly poor tour guide. Her prose fails to flow, connections between characters are lacking, the plotting is full of holes, and character development is almost nonexistent.

There are so many great fantasy novels available for young readers, this book does not deserve your time.

2 out of 5 stars Like J.K. Rowling... without the imagination or characters.......2007-06-23

Very two-dimensional. Sage's history of writing picture books is evident in both the writing style and character development. The plot elements are plagarized and don't really hang together well. The climax and denouement don't provide any satisfying drama or surprise. The book would work for poor middle school readers or good ones in the early grades, but I wouldn't recommend it for smart tweens.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars light and fluffy fantasy.......2007-07-04

This is a very plot heavy and magic heavy book. That makes it perfect for those not necessarily wedded to long, dense books. It got a bit silly at times, but that's perfect for its intended audience. The thickness of the paper and the size and spacing of the type make it appear much longer than it is.

5 out of 5 stars Septimus Heap: Flyte the long lost art of Flying.......2007-06-02

Flyte, the second book in the Septimus Heap series, is about an ancient lost art of Flying. Flyte is almost rediscovered by Darke Magyk. To add to that, little princess Jenna is kidnapped by one of her own family member. Septimus Heap goes out searching for Jenna and ends up putting Flyte together. He gets two ways to fly: Flyte and Beast.....

It is an intriguing well written book with its quick, witty cast of characters and infinite magical imaginary capabilities.Magyk (Septimus Heap, Book 1)Physik (Septimus Heap, Book 3)

5 out of 5 stars Flyte.......2007-05-23

This is a wonderful book full of fun and adventure in which the Heaps are caught up in the stream of magic and the evil plot of evil wizard DomDaniel trying yet agian to become king and the Extra ordinary wizard. Along with some help from one of the Heaps (which one is it?), DomDaniel almost succeeds. Anyone who likes adventure and magic will like this story because of its amazing storyline and happy ending.

4 out of 5 stars The continuing adventures of Septimus Heap.......2007-05-23

Okay so Septimus Heap is an apprentice to an extraordinary wizard, and he's back in this sequel to Magyk. As you might have guessed, DomDaniel was defeated but not destroyed, and he's more intent than ever on ruling the castle as the extraordinary wizard. To do this, DomDaniel must remove Jenna, the rightful heir to the throne.

The book finds Septimus Heap about a year after the events in the first book. He has slipped into his new life as an apprentice. The darkness still lingers as a menacing shadow follows Marcia the wizard everywhere. Meanwhile, Jenna also has adjusted to her new life as a princess. Life is good for both as they say but one day when the mysterious Simon Heap shows up he suddenly kidnapps Jenna. Septimus ends up going off on his own to resuce Jenna because no one believes him when he says Simon is now evil.

Over all, I enjoyed reading Flyte. Although the plotting meanders at times and the writing isn't as good as with Magyck, the book has many fun elements and is an interesting read. I'd recommend this highly to readers of Robert Stanek's Keeper Martin's Tales (The Kingdoms and the Elves, In the Service of Dragons, etc). The books are similarly well written and inventive. I'd also recommend to those who enjoy Artemis Fowl but are looking for more detail and more mature stories.

4 out of 5 stars A fun read.......2007-05-17

I enjoyed reading Flyte, the sequel to Magyk in the Septimus Heap series of books. It has a lot of fun elements, and the plot held my attention well. Yes, there are some things in it that will make you think of Harry Potter here and there, but Angie Sage manages to keep those things few, and her world is not one to be confused with the world of the Harry Potter books.
In this book Septimus is coming into more acceptance with his family and finding his place in their lives and as Apprentice to the ExtraOrdinary Wizard. The plot moves quickly, and while there are a few moments of predictability, in general it kept me guessing. I look forward to reading the third installment soon.

5 out of 5 stars You'll remember the tips in this book, and they work too.......2007-09-23

I loved how the authors used their own "wow" experiences to relate to everyday situations.

The principles are easy to understand, and most importantly, easy to remember and follow. I tried out just one of the tips at first and found that I gained more composure in difficult situations, both at work and at home. The book is a quick read too.

I loaned my copy out to several friends (young professionals & 30-somethings) and they just kept passing it around to their friends. Apparently, everyone who read my copy went out and bought their own to keep. I finally got mine back.

An Executive Director at a private college even told me that she's recommending that "Leading From the Front" be added to the required reading list for a couple of courses.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Book for Everyone!.......2007-06-26

I heard about this book from, "The Girls Guide to Being a Boss Without Being a Bitch" (which I also recommend). I decided to conduct one of the leadership workshops "Strive for Five" that Courtney and Angie recommend. You have a group of five women - in my case there are six of us - read the book and have weekly conference calls to discuss and share ideas. It has been such a valuable experience for all of us and we are enjoying the experience tremendously! I highly recommend this workshop idea to any and every manager out there. Not only that, but it really has great life lessons for everyone as we all need to be leaders in every aspect of our lives (not just at work).

5 out of 5 stars Solid leadership basics, with good application in the workplace........2007-05-08

As female manager of people for the past 30 + years, I believe it is never too late to review basic leadership principles. While I feel I regularly subscribe to Angie and Courtney's thought processes, I enjoyed reading this book and was impressed with how it hit on parallels that apply to business and the armed forces. The only point I disagreed with was the negativity regarding crying at work. Many females (myself included) have cried at work when faced with frustrating circumstances. I tend to think this is not viewed as negative by others as it is simply a release of emotions that cannot always be controlled. At times, it is an outward communication of passion regarding the issue at hand. Other than this point, I thought the book was great and have recommended it to direct reports and peers - male and female!

5 out of 5 stars Leadership for women.......2007-02-26

I bought this book for a number of women employees and managers that I work with - initial reactions were reserved but after reading the book all thanked me for the gift. The book does a great job of making it clear that women can lead just like men and can face and overcome the same challenges. The authors tell their personal stories and relate them to the leadership principles. In all, a great book for women 'hesitating' to lead or those seeking to understand the difference between management and leadership.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing read -- relevant to every area of your life.......2006-05-05

I loved this book. I picked it up at the airport because I was curious of the subject matter -- I didn't know how Marine Corps leadership applied to my life. The book caught me from the beginning. I admire the authors' ability to tell their personal stories and relate them to the leadership principles. This in an important book for every woman on her quest for personal and professional achievement. Buy this book for your friends, family members and colleagues who want to be better leaders.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great material with typos.......2007-07-13

It's true as other (unnecessarily nasty) reviewers have pointed out that this book is loaded with typos, and the grammar could use some improvement as well. However, these reviewers neglect to mention two things: that the tutorials in the book are absolutely clear and well thought-out; and that the typos are (or at least were for me) very easy to spot without slowing down your study too much. I've also been through Steve Holmes excellent Total Training course on After Effects, as well as the Adobe Classroom In A Book, and I found Creative After Effects to be the best of the three, typos and grammar notwithstanding, so I've rated it five stars because in my opinion it's star rating really deserves to be averaged upwards. Thank you very much to the author using my time well, and please don't be discouraged from updating this excellent material for After Effects CS3.

4 out of 5 stars Good from the ground up........2007-06-29

Angie Taylor's approach to teaching After Effects follows an overall generalized and simple step by step rhetoric, which serves both the newbie or advanced user seeking a good reference. Even though it's about as readable as an Algebra II textbook, Angie's method truly familiarizes even the lamest of lamens with all the knowhow to get you started in the world of motion graphics. Before you know it you'll have most hot key's memorized while whizzing through pre-comps and parentings.

Yes it's true this book has numerous errors which are initially frustrating, but as you learn the program the typos and mistakes become trite.

Oh and as I said, it's not the most exciting thing. Have a pot of coffee ready to go - learning AE is tiresome.

And, if you seek a text for compositing and blue/green screening there are better texts out there. Angie's book is best described as a full program overview not specializing on any one section in particular.

Cheers!

3 out of 5 stars Good information, poor presentation.......2007-04-06

As another reviewer noted, this book is filled with typographical errors as well as mistakes that make for a frustrating learning experience. Figure and file references are often wrong, causing considerable confusion. It's too bad because apparently there is a some of good information and instruction in the book.

The book is written from a Mac and British perspective and has modernist type examples that might not appeal to everyone. This however doesn't explain why a proofreader wasn't used before this book was published.

I haven't finished it yet and I don't know if I will. Being led down several dead ends already due to the typos, I'm getting discouraged.

Update: I'm still slogging through this book (I've already highlighted places in it, so I'm pretty much stuck with keeping it) and I'm becoming more sympathetic with the reviewer who said to avoid this thing. Mistakes are rife and the grotesque images used in some of the examples (Fig. 3.21 and 7.1 especially) are real turn-offs. Everyone buying After Effects wants to use the special effects actually in the program. This book devotes a whole 34 pages out of 566 specifically to Effects. Quite a let down.

Update: Finally completed this mess! Don't waste your money on this thing unless you want to see one of the most error filled books you've ever encountered. This is something a junior high student would be ashamed to submit. In addition, the freelance writer of this book apparently doesn't want anyone to really learn her "secrets" about animations, such as "talking" animals. So only just enough information is given to fill the book but not enough to really teach anyone how to accomplish the given tasks.

1 out of 5 stars never buy this book.......2006-10-24

There are many errors in this book which could have been avoided by simple proof-reading. The structure of the lesson is confusing, sometime misleading. The author needs to work a lot to get the book improved. Try other books about AE 7.

5 out of 5 stars Great Introduction.......2006-09-29

Iam a college student and my ambhition seems to be leaning towards film editing for the past couple of years I have worked with Final Cut Pro which was a farely simple , yet complex peice of editing software. This year Iam in an advanced class where our teacher has stressed to us to work with some Adobe After Effects 7 in additon with final cut pro I bought this book to help me further understand the software. The first time I opened up After Effects I will admit I was Iniminated I tried fooling around with some of the panels and stuff and couldnt figure anything out ,, So now I have started from chapter 1 with this book I inserted the dvd that it comes with into the computer which has sort of a classroom in a book feel to this book but much better.. Go through the chapters using the source clips provided on the dvd. This has helped me understand what After Effects is about now Iam not finished with this book yet but wanted to write a review on this because it has helped me with its easy reading and keyboard shortcuts for both pc and mac. It explains every small detail in easy to understand language there is no computer/video editor slang.. If you are looking for a good editing book and you have Adobe After Effects 7.0 This is its Bible not the manual , which tends to use more slang assming that the purchaser knows what they are talking about , the manual tends to make things more difficult. This book makes even someone has never worked with film editing able to accomplish what they would like and learn the software.

I Love This Book

Book Description

Angie Amalfi is close to one of the biggest breaks of her rocky culinary career––a chance to co–write a cookbook with a famous chef. But as she scrambles to prepare for the impending interview, her realtor sister Cat is suddenly accused of a murder in a rich client's home. A priceless relic––an iron chain that was used to bind St. Peter while in a Roman prison––is missing from her wealthy client Marcello Piccoletti's home, and a murder was committed on the heels of the disappearance. The only person who can clear Cat's name is the client himself, and he's in Rome, tending to his restaurant, Da Vinci's.

Heedless to Angie's stern warning, the always unpredictable Cat insists on traveling to Rome to confront Picoletti, and Angie must drop everything to accompany her sister. The Roman restaurateur has the chain with him in Rome, and exonerates Cat of the murder as well. Unfortunately, the police in the states still suspect Cat and now Picoletti, the only witness, has disappeared. Angie takes a job as a cook at Da Vinci's, hoping to get to the bottom of this complex mess. And when bodies start piling up like balls of fresh mozzarella at an Amalfi family picnic, it looks like Angie and Cat's trip to their homeland may spell arrivederci Amalfis.

1 out of 5 stars Dysfunctional Families are a Bore!!!!!.......2007-09-10

If this is a sample of this series, I will not be reading any more. Angie's family is without redemption, she is totally inept, and I wouldn't allow her to fry balogna. I am tired of books that can only supply tension by allowing overbearing, rude, contemptible family members to browbeat each other.

4 out of 5 stars More like 4 1/2 stars...........2007-08-15

Trouble seems to follow Angie Amalfi no matter where she goes. When her strict-laced sister, Caterina Swenson, calls her and says she is pursuing a witness to a murder, Angie rushes to help her. What follows is a madcap chase through Rome for Angie and Cat while Homicide Inspector Paavo Smith, Angie's fiancé, is back in America trying to sort out the murder scene and deal with the Amalfi family. Angie and Cat are determined to find the missing witness (who is also Cat's client), Marcello Piccoletti, locate a missing relic, and clear Cat's name.

What a delicious story! Ms. Pence writes such a delightful tale with very vividly drawn characters that it is hard not to immediately get wrapped up in the craziness surrounding the Amalfi family. The Amalfi family lives by the adage that family sticks together so once it becomes apparent that Cat and Angie are in trouble, the whole family swoops in to help. Sometimes, this leads to quite interesting and hysterical scenes. Perhaps Frannie's ordeal with bureaucracy is the best scene but there are numerous laugh-out-loud moments in this fantastic story.

It has been awhile since I have read one of the Angie Amalfi mysteries from Joanne Pence, and after reading this one I'm wondering why. Perhaps what made this tale much more enjoyable for me is that Angie's angst over her career and her continued mishaps weren't as apparent. Instead, we are treated with seeing the entire Amalfi family in action. Joanne Pence has created such a loving, richly diverse family in the Amalfis and I relished every moment spent with them in this book. There is never a dull moment as the action flows smoothly along. THE DA VINCI COOK is simply divine!

3 out of 5 stars Cooking up a good story.......2007-06-05

Not having read any of the other twelve Angie Amalfi mysteries, I may be at a distinct disadvantage to critique this one. That being said, I love Italy, I love food and I love a good mystery. So The Da Vinci Cook is three for three on my "what I love" top-ten list.

The authors' descriptions of Rome, though not poetically descriptive, located all the sights so accurately and with such detail, it felt like a walking tour of the city from the Forum to the Spanish Steps, from the Termini Station to the Vatican.

And the description of their first dinner in Rome, "an antipasto of caprese--tomatoes with mozzarella, basil, and spices--a primo of porcini mushroom risotto...and linguine with pancetta...veal scaloppine with green olives and for dessert...sliced melon and walnuts with...espresso." C'est magnifique!

However, I do have a couple small complaints. Even though Angie is the central figure in the series, I had some trouble keeping that straight because in this book Angie's sister Cat seems to command more attention. I assume that's simply because there are twelve other books in the series and the author assumes the reader are well acquainted with the characters and have no trouble following along.

My other issue may sound pathetically trivial but it really bugged me. The title of the book is The Da Vinci Cook. The front cover of the book shows Mona Lisa holding a wooden spoon covered in sauce. Loving all things conspiratorial (i.e., The Da Vinci Code), I expected some connection. Except for the tangential fact that Angie and her sister work a couple shifts in a restaurant called Da Vinci's, there is no connection. I felt duped.

Did I recover from my snit and enjoy the book, yes! Will it stop me from reading the others, no!

Armchair Interviews says: Italy, historical buildings and wonderful food--what more could you want.

4 out of 5 stars Another Gustatory Romp.......2007-05-25

Joanne Pence has continued her Angie Amalfi series with this engaging takeoff on all the "DaVinci" hoo-ha. I loved it. It's nice to see that Joanne's still able to write convincingly about San Francisco from her exile in Boise ID!

4 out of 5 stars The Da Vinci Cook.......2007-05-07

Another fun instalment in the Angie Amalfi series. Joanne Pence gives us a contemporary story that suits the history of the Angie Amalfi italian heritage and the inclusion of all her endearingly loopy family. It's an easy read for fans of this series and I look forward to the next instalment in the lives of Angie an Pavo.

5 out of 5 stars HOTT!!!!!!!.......2007-10-11

I absolutely loved the story line between Reggie & Berlin, even though she got on my nerves sometimes. It was definitely worth the purchase.

5 out of 5 stars A Definite Delight.......2007-05-04

This is the first novel I've read by Angie Daniels and I couldn't put it down! It was excitingly erotic, yet had just enough sweet sensuality for the hopeless romantic. The passion and heat between Reggie and Berlin just leapt off the pages. Definitely needed some ice water and my hubby near by when I read this one. Reggie was a brotha that definitely had it goin' on. He had a booming business and he wasn't lacking in the personality or looks department and knew how to pour on the romance and was very talented in the bedroom. This was a very well written story. Can't wait to read more from Ms. Daniels.

4 out of 5 stars A New Fan!!.......2007-03-11

This is the first book I've read by Angie Daniels and I didn't want to put it down! I liked it so much that I just purchased three more of her books from Amazon and can't wait to read them. It was steamy just like I like my books for those of you who like a lot of sensuality to go with your romance. Aside from a few dialogue fitting the personality kinks, this book was great!

5 out of 5 stars HOT!.......2007-03-06

This book was all that and a bag of chips Reggie was something else whoa. You better have a glass of ice water and yes you better have your man near by, because this book is something else. Very well written and keeps your attention. This is my second book I read by this author and both books I couldn't put down. Keep up the good work am looking forward to reading more of your work.

4 out of 5 stars Truly A Delight.......2007-02-07

This book was hot! Make sure you have some ice water nearby or a fan. Reggie will have you panting.
I guess the moral of the story is to not judge a book by the cover, like the main character did.
All she saw a was a painter, and not the man. A steamy love story with meaning.
I enjoyed it. You will not be disappointed.

3 out of 5 stars Depends where you're coming from.......2004-10-15

As a complete novice to accounting concepts I bought this book because I wanted to understand what type of information I need to track as a freelance professional services provider. I read all of Part 1 (several chapters) and can't say I know more than I did when I started. If you want to understand the difference between cash & accrual methods, the reason for single or double entry, the purpose of income statements, or how bookkeeping can help you as a management tool, look around at some other books before buying this sight unseen.

Book Description

Learn how to think before you animate. Thinking Animation is a one-of-a-kind book that emphasizes how artists can use traditional animation techniques and principles with the computer generated animation technology of today. Written by seasoned animators with experience in both 2D and CG, Thinking Animation is an exquisite guide aimed at experienced animators; however, the skills taught within are still accessible and valuable to the novice animator. This full-color book includes numerous interviews with experienced contributing authors from a wide range of backgrounds, including stop-motion, visual effects, traditional animation, and CG. Thinking Animation is non-software specific. It contains a history of the field of animation as well as insight into how CG studios operate. It embraces the future of animating with the computer while still retaining the core values that traditional animators use as formulas and principles.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Really well written and interesting book........2007-05-12

This book is just fantastic, it was such a pleasure to read that I really hoped it would not end.

I found it different from other books on the subject as it gives you an overview about most processes in animation and helped me solidify some concepts that I was not sure about. It's not a technical book so don't expect step by step tutorials, which I think it's great as it wasn't intended to be. It's a book you can just enjoy on the couch with out trying to follow and press buttons.

I recommend this book to really any one who wants to have an inside look at the animation world, any one who really wants to get to grip with the terms and concepts of animation.

Best chapter was the one on acting as it really supplied some stellar advice and ideas.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent!!!!.......2007-03-11

An incredible source of insight and information even for a novice like me. The layout and flow makes this an easy read, interesting, and useful.
The insight is just what I was looking for. Thanks to the authors and editors. A great book!

5 out of 5 stars Great resource.......2007-01-24

"Thinking Animation" is a good overview and learning resource for anyone that wants to know how the magic of animation is made. It covers all the basic principles of animation, breaks them down and explains how they're used. It's not a step by step instruction manual of animation, though. If you're an animation student, no matter what the medium: hand drawn animation, flash animation, 3D animation, stop motion animation, etc, this book is an excellent 'text book' that covers just about everything.

5 out of 5 stars Modern Day Reference Bible for 2D and 3D Artists.......2006-09-07

I thought it was going to be Richard Williams's style book but it wasn't and in fact im kind of pleased. To me it's more like a book full of wise wisdom and tricks of the trade and really explains things in a clear cut way. If only I had this book when I first started out in the whole learning 3D thing 6 years ago this would have been my bible for deciphering most of the terms and understand what they really mean.

I really like the book has point of views from different people and how they approach their work. A really insightful book and helpful for people who have a 2D background and going to a 3D one, as there are so many terms in 3D that you don't find in 2D e.g. a graph editor and tweaking f curves. For those with a 3D background already I think book will help achieve more from their 3D animation.

This book would have really helped me a lot when I was do my dissertation called as it covers nearly every aspect I was talking about and would have saved me time, it was even helpful to see where Angie and Jamie had referenced there information from too.

All in all I think for some people as soon as they see too much text it might put them off as after all animators/creative are visual people. But on the other hand if your passionate enough and want to learn from the best or knowledge that's been past down from animator to animator its a worthy buy and for me its been a worthy buy - a book fully loaded with knowledge and wisdom, what more could you want, its like having the best animator sitting right next to you.

5 out of 5 stars A must read for the modern animator.......2006-07-05

Being a professional animator, I was anxious to read this book. I finally got hold of a copy and was really impressed. The stage is set with a well researched history of the dynamically changing world of animation. Then the title theme comes into play in a very authoritative explanation of the art and craft of CG animation, with its roots in the traditional methods. What I liked was that the techniques discussed are not limited to any particular software package. A smart decision by the authors, as this book is not likely to ever go out of date. Adding spice throughout the book are anecdotes by various pros in the business, which are often quite humorous. THINKING ANIMATION is a must read for both practicing and armchair animators.
