Book Description
Focus, Focus, Focus! You will only have significant success with something that is an obsession. Success comes from having passion and having fun creating your objective!
Words of Wisdom is a collection of inspirational aphorisms, which Rev Run sends out to his closest friends each day and which were made suddenly popular when his television show zoomed to the top of the MTV charts. Rev Run (an ordained minister) closes each episode of Run's House by reading philosophical, Christian, and inspirational books in the bathtub before penning words that inspire, encourage, and motivate. Here, available for the first time to the public, are Run's Words of Wisdom published in a gifty yet affordable format just in time for the show's second season.
All great blessings come from being at peace. When the day is over, go to sleep. Never sit up worrying about tomorrow. Work hard and let God do the rest. I always say these words at night: "I can sleep tonight because God is awake!" Relax. Rest easy.

Book Description
UPDATED, WITH NEW MATERIAL BY THE AUTHOR"WOMEN WHO RUN WITH THE WOLVES isn't just another book. It is a gift of profound insight, wisdom, and love. An oracle from one who knows."--Alice WalkerWithin every woman there lives a powerful force, filled with good instincts, passionate creativity, and ageless knowing. She is the Wild Woman, who represents the instinctual nature of women. But she is an endangered species. In WOMEN WHO RUN WITH THE WOLVES, Dr. Estés unfolds rich intercultural myths, fairy tales, and stories, many from her own family, in order to help women reconnect with the fierce, healthy, visionary attributes of this instinctual nature. Through the stories and commentaries in this remarkable book, we retrieve, examine, love, and understand the Wild Woman and hold her against our deep psyches as one who is both magic and medicine. Dr. Estés has created a new lexicon for describing the female psyche. Fertile and life-giving, it is a psychology of women in the truest sense, a knowing of the soul."This volume reminds us that we are nature for all our sophistication, that we are still wild, and the recovery of that vitality will itself set us right in the world."--Thomas Moore Author of Care of the Soul"I am grateful to WOMEN WHO RUN WITH THE WOLVES and to Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés. The work shows the reader how glorious it is to be daring, to be caring, and to be women. Everyone who can read should read this book."--Maya Angelou"An inspiring book, the 'vitamins for the soul' [for] women who are cut off from their intuitive nature."--San Francisco Chronicle"Stands out from the pack . . . A joy and sparkle in [the] prose . . . This book will become a bible for women interested in doing deep work. . . . It is a road map of all the pitfalls, those familiar and those horrifically unexpected, that a woman encounters on the way back to her instinctual self. Wolves . . . is a gift."--Los Angeles Times"A mesmerizing voice . . . Dramatic storytelling she learned at the knees of her [immigrant] aunts."--Newsweek

Truly inspired.......2007-10-10
This amazing book speaks to the soul. It is a valuable tool for any woman who has a hint that something is missing or that she is not whole. A keeper to be read many times over. I found this book to be very healing and therapeutic.
CP Estes: Women Who Run With Wolves.......2007-05-20
This is prolly the best book I have ever read. Brings me to tears, has me laughing, and everything in between. VERY good for women and men, as what she touches on relates to both sexes, although she focuses on women. Excellent book.
Women Who Run With The Wolves.......2007-05-14
I love this book. Great for any woman struggling to know and feel comfortable with the real self living in her skin. Great to know you're OK!
A book that should resurface again and again as great feminist lit.......2007-05-11
Each time I move and pare down my bookshelves, I immediately set aside as untouchable those books without which my personal library would be less rich. "Women Who Run with the Wolves" is one such book. I pick it up in good times and bad ones, and I'm always grateful for the experience.
My favorite book - my favorite author. .......2007-04-16
I first read this book 10 years ago with a group of women who met weekly, and I continue to refer to it often as a reminder of the insights that are recounted so well through the amazing storytelling talents of Clarissa Pinkola Estes. She has a way of speaking directly to my soul through her words and thoughtful analysis. A beautiful, life changing book!

An eclectic mix of cognitive-behavioral techniques, skills training, Zen, and existentialism, DBT helps readers pay attention to their emotions, assess their blocks to controlling them, become less judgmental of themselves when they lose control, and ultimately eliminate overpowering feelings. Dialectical Behavior Therapy.......2007-09-25
Having just been diagnosed with BPD, I have found books such as this very helpful as my husband and I discuss the best way for our family to deal with my sensitivity to emotions and mood changes. My oldest son is also displaying behaviors indicative of BPD and we are looking for help for him, too.

must use w/ the original great--Linehan's DBT skills training workbook. i like these exercises, but you will need to preview before each class and come up w/ a solid tie-in w/ the DBT skills...it just doesn't stand alone in a way that is useful to clients.
You can teach an old woman new skills.......2007-06-10
You can teach 4 year olds to count. You can teach an old dog to fetch. At 45 I thought there was no help for me. I just couldn't change. But this book helped me to learn the skills I needed to get along with myself my family and society. It is dry reading but keep at it and you will find a new person within you.
Great Workbook.......2007-05-19
I have been having trouble controling my emotions my whole life. I was never taught to control my emotions, so it has always been a struggle for me. Following the books guidelines and working one chapter at a time has helped me so much. It has improved my relationship with my boyfriend and given me a happier outlook on life knowing that my emotions are part of me but don't have to be who I am. I highly reccommend it, it's just like doing a workbook for a english or psych class. I also purchased the Self-Esteem Workbook. It's been just as helpful to me as this one.
RELIEF.......2007-02-28
This book is a joy to read. It offers (in simple to understand language) an understanding of your emotions and many tools on how to handle them. I highly recommend this book to anyone, especially if you grew up in a family where your parents had emotional problems and were not able to offer you guidance or validation of your emotions while growing up.
It's a great treasure.....tb
Book Description
Your shoes are charred from stomping out brush fires. You have nightmares about UFOs—Unreachable Financial Objectives. All-star interviewees turn into duds. Meetings cause more problems than they solve. The office is a ghost town at 5:01 p.m. Does this sound familiar?
Tom Gegax knows what that is like. Years after running his Tires Plus franchise by the seat of his pants, blissfully unaware of how little he knew about getting the most out of people and managing a world-class organization, Tom was faced with a cancer diagnosis and a business at the brink of disaster. Resolved to change things around, he improved his mental clarity, health, and relationships and noticed that the more he profited on a personal level, the more his company profited. Tires Plus grew into a $200 million business with 150 upscale locations. He had learned the first lesson in Enlightened Leadership 101: Focus on the well-being of your employees and customers—as well as your own—and success will follow naturally.
In The Big Book of Small Business, Tom shares his hard-earned lessons on how to become an enlightened, effective leader, and on how to do the small things right so the big decisions work. This all-in-one toolbox for small businesses is jammed with warm-hearted, tough-minded practices and street-smart tips, covering every aspect of a growing business:
- Starting, funding, and getting your new business off the ground
- Crafting a mission and growing a corporate culture that works
- Hiring the best people and maximizing their potential
- Communicating and negotiating with your employees, customers, and suppliers
- Creating processes for continuous innovation and growth
- Protecting your business from unforeseen dangers
- Planning for growth
- And much more . . .
As thorough as a textbook and as lively as a news magazine, The Big Book of Small Business is the most comprehensive and practical book on how to take a small business to the next level, and an indispensable slingshot for the millions of scrappy Davids taking on corporate Goliaths.

The first "Cliff Notes" for how to run a business........2007-05-18
If you could take all the best practices of business today and consolidate them into one manual, you would have an invaluable book but it would be about the size of the average American house. I believe "The Big Book for Small Business" by Tom Gegax is the "Cliff Notes" version of these best practices, I found this guide to be extremely valuable as an entrepreneur who owns four businesses and have made it required reading for all my employees.
Since one of my businesses is in an emerging market, I have done the unthinkable. I have sent my competitors CEO's copies of the book as well because I also believe in what Tom so eloquently stated, "A rising tide raises all boats". If we as industry can all utilize the advice contained in this book, our industry will grow to its incredible potential.
This is the best business book I have ever read and find myself coming back to it time and time again for strategy and execution ideas. This is 100% meat and zero fluff. My sincere congratulations to the author for delivering a business book masterpiece.
Best Regards,
Brian Brasch, President

A great "How To" Piece on Owning and Operating a Small Business.......2007-05-15
Tom Gegax has done it again with The Big Book of Small Business...an outstanding "how to" commentary on starting and running a small (or not-so-small) business. A "must read" for anyone looking for a ready resource and "kitchen helper" in owning, operating and otherwise "worrying" a closely-held business. As the previous head of the Private Company Practice Group in my law firm, I can see how this book would have been of great help to many of my clients. As a person who once taught a course in Business Planning, I wish that at the time I had had Tom's book in hand to help students learn many of the practical aspects of running a business: managing people, strategic planning, negotiating commercial relationships, compliance etc - the list goes on.
Again, congratulations to Tom Gegax.
William R. Hibbs, Retired Partner, Dorsey & Whitney, PLLP, Minneapolis
A wonderful source.......2007-04-10
Absolutely a fabulous book. Anyone who has ever run a business or plans to in the future will find this book a great asset. Tom Gegax delivers another winner.

The Big Book of Life.......2007-04-09
While I would love to write a review of how Tom's guidance has helped my business succeed (and it has!), the surprise beneift of his books is that they become a guide for your life, not just your business.
The Big Book of Small Business.......2007-04-03
This is THE book to learn by! It is challenging to run and keep a successful business on the right track, so reading Tom's words and learning by his trials and tribulations is educational. Anyone starting out with a new business would benefit by his words of wisdom. And anyone in business will learn something beneficial that they can put into practice!

Good Quality, Poor Quantity.......2007-09-19
The substance of the information presented was genuinely useful knowledge. The first 2 or 3 chapters really give a good analysis of the value of a customer. The extensive examples that follow are merely verbose repetitions of the previously presented (and actually well supported) concepts. Sadly there is not a Harvard Business Review for this book, but there should be, to cut down on absorbtion time. Not a waste of money, but perhaps time.
Very interesting customer life time model but a bit weak in customer strategy level.......2007-03-16
Book is centered around understanding customer life time value and what is the required mind set and strategy to drive customer life time value as a business driver.
Life time value model is very very interesting because of its simplicity yet usability - I plan to use it. However where the book is no delivering is its strategy angle. Customer strategy is too much simplified as how do you drive customer acquisition and retention with different programs highlighting the loyalty programs (and also setting some question marks on it). What the book does not address is the core mindset of customer driven business strategies: How companies should understand the business they are in from outside in view i.e. from customer side: what is the category we are in, what is the mindshare we have among our customers, how are we integrating our business and the offerings to our customers' businesses and lifes, what alternative business models we have to drive life time value.
But because the life time value is useful and the book as total is rather enjoyable to read I recommend this book
The Customer Lifetime Value approach to business strategy.......2006-12-18
"Managing Customers..." does a wonderful job of providing a holistic approach to customer lifetime value (CLV).
Founded on the principle of viewing customers as assets, the book provides a super-efficient, highly-impactful read on transforming the CLV principle into actionable tactics in key aspects of business - fusing marketing, finance, and organizational structure into a well-aligned strategy for enabling a business to maximize the value it creates & derives from customers. Truly a must read for students of business.
On a side note - just wanted to express how impressed I have been with all of The Wharton School books that I have read to date - they are truly some of the finest business books available.
Highly recommended to all marketing executives.......2006-07-12
How much are your customers worth? If financiers and investors had bothered to ask themselves this basic question, they might have prevented the Internet bubble and other expensive corporate mistakes. Such disasters can occur when people invest in businesses with no earnings and fanciful business models. Authors and professors Sunil Gupta and Donald Lehmann make a powerful case that executives should abandon outdated business-evaluation models based on traditional financial metrics, such as cash flows. Instead, they should rely on the present and future value of their businesses' customers: the "customer's lifetime value," or CLV. The authors discuss these issues in understandable language and buttress their arguments with formulas that will enable marketers to implement their ideas. They also provide helpful examples that are like mini business-school case studies. We highly recommend this book to all marketing executives, as well as to executives who are financially responsible for mergers and acquisitions, or advertising. This book could change the way you do business and increase your earnings from your best customers.
Important metrics for effective customer management.......2005-12-12
Are you spending more on your customers than they are worth? That is the question these authors attempt to answer in this book. Whether it is acquisition cost or retention cost many businesses may be spending too much on their customers. As with all investments there is a time to increase investment, a time to hold them, and a time to let them go. This is a detailed analysis of how to develop metrics for your company that help determine customer value. With increasing customers there are increasing costs. Once you have developed your metrics they show how to use that information to determine things like customer lifetime value. Once you know their lifetime value you can make effective marketing and management decisions related to your customers. You have to manage your customers in order to manage your business. Now you can determine how to best manage your customers. A practical approach to managing customers that is both effective and easy to apply while providing real results. Managing Customers as Investments is a recommended read for all marketing and customer-centric managers as well as all corporate executives.

Great Book.......2007-09-17
Fantastic information. Everything you need to know presented in a well thought out format.
A Good and Practical Book.......2007-05-19
Hi, I am a Korean who would like to run my own coffee bar in Korea soon. It was very difficult to find really good guide books here in Korea, I mean ,written in Korean. Hoping to find one, I visited this Amazon and to my happiness I fianlly could find it, this book 'Start and Run a Coffee Bar'. This book is so practical and helpful to me. I appreciate that two writers would share their experience and knowledge with us.
Really Useful.......2007-03-15
I usually dont write these sorts of reviews but this was just exactly what i was looking for. A great primer on things you need to know and do to open a coffee shop including checklists. I would recommend it to newcommers to the business.
Applys to other retail businesses.......2006-12-31
I bought this book several years ago before I knew what type of business I was going to be in. I've now owned a retail store (paint your own pottery) for more than 4 years and looking at this book now, it does have a lot of good information for anyone looking to start and run a retail business with a service aspect. The chapters on business planning, setting up your business, insurance, securing a site, getting to opening, staffing and the last 4-5 chapters on operations all are well-written and applicable to many forms of retail.
Good information--not as complete as I would like.......2005-09-09
As a designer, I was looking more for input on equipment layout and functionality. This book gave me a good equipment list to discuss and layout with the client. The local building department loved our plans! The one area where the book falls short is helping to illustrate some good layouts.
Customer Reviews:
Life Changing.......2007-10-11
Was given this book by my 7th grade English teacher in 1978 - I had read it so much during the school year he gave it to me before I went to the eighth grade. The book is wonderful - shows clear picture of the power of Jesus Christ, and how He can change any situation, and anyone! One of the best books I've ever read in my life - can't wait to share it with my kids, as the message is timeless! Still want to meet Nicky Cruz in person!!
You can change if you want to.......2007-05-28
First read this book 30 years ago ,while still in highschool .Couldn't for the life of me figure out why a teacher would give this to someone to read .
The first part revolves around gang warfare in New York
The second Nicky Cruz's change in life
I won't go into story or say if the way Mr Cruz changed his life is for everyone , but are going say that the way to change is step back from where you are and look around you , when you relize people will help if you are willing to help yourself ,looking at Mr Cruz's life as it was in the 50's wouldn't take much imagination to see where he was heading
Young and some not so young should read the book and maybe see the morale of the story
A true inspiration..........2007-04-12
This book is a great read!
With simple language that helps you get closer to the characters, and the inpiring goals that make you reflect in your own life!
Truely one of the few books that could change your life for ever :)
If you run into this message... EMBRACE IT!.......2006-11-27
This book starts with somebody yelling, "Stop that crazy kid!" I think right then and there was when my fears were ceased. I've really wanted to read "Run Baby Run" for quite sometime. Yet you run into somebody else's life story, and it isn't as interesting as you thought it might be. So, I did take a chance, and I'm glad I did. If you are looking for the power of Christ, you've come to the right place. If you are looking for the possible description of a street fight, you've come to the right place. If you want a little bit of romance added to the picture, (YEP) you've come to the right place! And the story is all true, that's the amazing thing. Mario Puzo didn't pen this out and send it out to his publisher. Nicky Cruz LIVED it, and he's here to tell his story. Some might be wondering if it's the same old "blood, sweat and tears" story. Hmm... maybe the words blood, sweat, tears, puke, convulsions, profanity, narcotics, spiritual warfare and MORE might fit the bill. Don't let that scare you away though.
If you've ever heard Nicky Cruz speak, he isn't always the easiest to understand, yet his language of love through Christ is universal. He's ticked off at Satan, people! I believe he has every right to be. He tells an amazing story of coming from Puerto Rico to the States (New York) and almost immediately getting involved in gang activity. He talks of the Mau Maus, and how he became the president eventually. He speaks of his best buddy, Israel. He talks about friends killed in gang warfare. He goes into detail about the rumbles. But that's just the beginning. He also talks of a man named David Wilkerson. He talks of Pastor Wilkerson with much awe and reverence. And from there he talks of a great relationship with Jesus Christ. He goes into detail about Bible college, he tells of his struggles. He tells of his ministry. Now some of you reading my review might be asking, "Uh, Wolfe... did you just TELL us the whole story?" I don't think so. You'll have to get the book for that. The time invested in well worth it.
There is power in the testimony of Nicky Cruz, yet there is more power in the one who saved him, Jesus Christ. Embrace the message of this book! If you are one who is still running, run to a Heavenly Father who is waiting. Then you'll run an awesome race! So don't let the title intimidate you. Pick it up, and don't run from what Nicky Cruz has to say.
Almost perfect.......2006-11-02
Sent book fast, enjoyed, but 30 pages missing (made up for it by sending book later one day service free)

Customer Reviews:
A Waste of Trees.......2006-03-26
The problem with so many how-to books (this one included) is that they spend page after page telling you what they are going to tell you, then talking to you about what they are about to tell you what it is you are wanting to know ... and then telling you. Oh, yeah: after that they tell you what they already told you. And then the rest of the book is filled with "well this isn't related to our thesis, but you might be interested in this other stuff anyway."
I'll save you the $38 cover price right now ... this book tells you but one practical thing: publish a detailed operations manual for your business. That's it! Nada! Finis! Unless you, as a business owner, believe that half a page offering recommendations in FONT STYLES is important, you are well advised to stay away. This book is a rip-off.
Buy E-myth Revised instead.......2005-01-29
The book E-myth Revised covers more information and is 1/3 the price of this book. Maybe buy this book if you don't understand E-myth and just need it explained to you in different words. Very dissappointed and thought this was a waste of money.
Best Jump Start for Business Building!.......2004-09-08
If you want to actually apply concepts of operations development to your own business, especially if you have 0-20 employees, you'll do well with Carter's book. You'll find short chapters, with simply stated to-do items and an understandable how to guide for setting up business operations. For my money, it's a steal at the price. If you can't glean one, single idea for bettering your business that's worth the 38 bucks, you're not paying attention. I've shaved thousands of dollars off my overhead expenses thanks to Chapter 15 alone. It's a lot of common sense stuff, but it was obviously common sense stuff I wasn't doing very well.
Books can only jump start your thinking and action - you're still the one who has to be willing to do the work. This is the best jump-start I've ever had for building my business.
Dont waste your money.......2004-08-31
This book is an expensive beginners guide to business operations. I expected more details on the how to write an operations manual, this is not what I found. Most of the topics covered are the same covered by the E-Myth series, a better written book for the money.
I wasted my money on this one :( .......2004-08-26
I hate to leave such a negative review, but it seems all this author did was take the information presented in "The E-Myth" by Michael Gerber, and make it her own (and in an amateurish way to boot!).
If you are a business owner who really wants to learn how to create systems so your company runs without you, then get the latest edition of "The E-Myth Revisited" and let a true pro show you the way.

Great guide.......2007-10-19
All I have to say is that I used this book on two large campaigns and won both. It is great!
I approve!.......2007-08-31
I checked out a lot of reviews of other books before I bought this one, and I'm not disappointed. What's particularly great is that it really zeroes in on the local election with very specific ideas and tasks.
As I've worked on local elections for others, I can say that Thomas clearly knows what he's talking about, and he's taught me many things I didn't know. When it comes time to throw my hat in the ring myself, this book will be my bible.
Helpful Primer for First Time Candidates.......2007-07-19
This is probably the best $15 or so that you will spend on your campaign. There is lots of valuable advice which will come in handy as you embark on your first run for office. I ran for school board in my town and beat a 9-year incumbent with almost 60% of the vote. You could have heard a pin drop in the room when they announced the result. It was quite an upset. The book is a short read which you can rip through in a couple of days. A lot of the tactics I used in my campaign came straight from the book, especially targeting "good" voters when you have a limited budget.
Anyone running for local office for the first time would be wise to read through the book.
The best how-to-run-for-office book I've ever read.......2007-05-21
Robert J. Thomas is not a great writer in the conventional sense, but perhaps miraculously, this humble and unassuming 128 page mini-tome is the best book on running for office that I've ever read. Mr. Thomas gives you the information that you need to know without a lot of filler, and he gears the book to the most likely potential readership - the first-time campaigner without a lot of money, connections, or experience. No fluff, no filler, no frills. When I ran for office in 2004, I purchased five how-to-run-a-campaign books (see my other reviews), and this was the best of the bunch. Thank you, Robert J. Thomas! I only got 1.33% of the vote (Green Party candidate in five-way race), but the tips and techniques offered herein probably saved me from an even more humiliating defeat.
How To Run.......2006-11-10
How To Run would most likely help an aspiring politician and I may yet reference it for a friend's campaign however, the format makes it very difficult to read and the layout is confusing. The author also repeats himself quite a bit. The book is not very interesting nor is it easy to read but, if you want a book the you can reference occasionally this will suit you just fine.
