An absolute "must-read" for any prospective real estate investor.......2007-09-06
Real estate broker, licensing instructor, and investor John A. Michailidis presents Beginner's Guide to Building Wealth Buying Houses: The Foolproof Roadmap to Real Estate Riches Without the Risks and Hassles of Landlording, a straight-talk guide to amassing a personal fortune through real estate assets. Defining wealth as "automatic income streams that are independent of your personal labor, and that are sufficient to maintain your chosen individual lifestyle indefinitely," Beginner's Guide to Building Wealth Buying Houses proves especially valuable to readers who are relatively new to real estate. While buying properties with intent to turn them around and resell them - "flipping" - is covered, Michailidis stresses that this form of real estate investment requires expert-level knowledge of local market conditions, and that and ordinary people can easily get burned. Instead, the primary focus is on how to acquire properties and use them to generate revenue streams through renting, or better yet, rent-to-own arrangements. Houses are recommended for beginners since they tend to attract more stable and reliable tenants than apartments. Chapters cover the economics of single-family houses, the right way to present offers, how to attract quality tenants, proven negotiation tactics, and much more. An absolute "must-read" for any prospective real estate investor, as well as anyone who dreams of becoming financially successful and secure.
Begining Real Estate Investor? Read This Book First.......2007-08-08
This is an excellent book for beginning - and even seasoned - investors.
I've been a real estate broker for 29 years and know a thing or two about real estate investing. I try to keep abreast of all new books that come out on the subject.
Most real estate books are complicated, full of formulas and lots of theory. Some are so dull you can't get through the first couple of chapters. The author of this book writes in a very easy-to-read, conversational style.
I found the investing method in this book to be sound and easy to implement. It's not about making a million bucks in a couple of months like so many other books on the market today. It's a very safe, low- risk system that can slowly but surely lead to wealth. In my opinion it is a great way to invest a portion of one's IRA or pension plan - in real estate instead of just stocks.
If you are new to the world of real estate investing, I would certainly recommend making this your first book on the subject.
Simple explanation of a daunting process.......2007-07-25
I read this book cover to cover in a single day. I could not put it down.
Author takes a difficult process and makes it so incredibly simple. Obviously there is homework involved, but even that is laid out for you in an easy to follow process. I can see real evidence of the author's e-myth style of setting up process and making the system do the work for you.
If you are looking to start investing in real estate, like we are, this is both the push we needed to jump in and the safety net of someone else's experience rolled into one.
Very well written, easy read.......still found some shortcomings.......2007-07-20
Don't let my title fool you, i thoroughly enjoyed this book in fact, i usually never write these reviews but felt i should share this with others as I've read every review before purchasing the book.
This is a very "easy" read, probably the fastest book that i remember completing. I loved how the author got very detailed into how to conduct the transaction from beginning to end. The only issue i found was that I personally do not live in an area where a "nice home in a nice neighborhood" costs under 200K. I didn't see the author provide any direction to this issue if this was the case for the investor. I also had a hard time navigating the website they mentioned at the end of the book and couldn't find how to order the forms from the CD online.
Still a great book and a must read !!!
Great book for beginning investor, without the fluff!.......2007-07-17
This book was so interesting I could not put it down! Everything one needs to lease purchase property. The author speaks in great detail without confusing you and not over your head. Enjoyed it immensely.
Customer Reviews:
Buy this book and he sells you more.......2005-01-08
Sad to say Lawn Aeration: Turn hard Soil into Cold Cash is a complete waste of your hard earned $45.00. Pedrotti offers little information about the true "nuts & bolts" of aeration. Rather his entire goal appears to be trying to sell the reader his aeration marketing products! I read the book from cover to cover and found little useful aeration information. I decided to give it a second chance and re-read it two weeks later. In the end I was even more upset with the author and how he keeps coming back to having the reader purchase his "cheesy" marketing products. Take it from someone who knows a fair amount about aeration and marketing in general - this book is a total waste of time, money and excitement - it is nothing but a rip-off! Shame on you Mr. Pedrotti - you cannot possibly make money on aeration. Your scheme is to sell elementary school level marketing junk produced by you with a ridiculous claim that it actually works!
Outstanding book! Great part time money maker........2005-01-01
You know this is a great book because there are NO USED books for sale on AMAZON. Everyone who bought this book has kept it!!! This book explains most everything you need to know. Very complete book, gives you great ideas and expands your thinking upon how to correctly go about this business.
The best guide for a succesful lawn aeration bussiness.......1999-10-26
I started a lawn aeration service 6 months ago, i just got this book four days ago, i followed the sales instructions given here and my sales percentage changed right away, i wish i have bought the book prior to starting my company, i could have saved lots of time and money. THIS BOOK HELP ME MAKE MONEY.......1998-10-17
I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A GOOD PART TIME BUSINESS TO START AND CAME ACROSS A YOUNG MAN THAT KNOCKED ON MY DOOR OFFERING LAWN AERATION TO ME. I HIRED HIM AND 20 MINS LATER WAS WRITING A CHECK FOR $60.00. MY LAWN THREE WEEKS LATER HAD NEVER LOOKED SO GREEN!! AFTER FINDING THIS BOOK I WAS ABLE TO PUT TOGETHER A NICE LITTLE BUSINESS. LAST YEAR I MADE OVER $15,000 ON THE SIDE OF BEING A FIREMAN. IT WAS ALL IN CASH TOO. PEDROTTI'S BOOK WAS GREAT. IT SPELLED OUT EVERYTHING ON MARKETING AND PRICING. HIS PLAN IS VERY WELL LAYED OUT AND EASY TO READ. WITHOUT THIS BOOK I WOULD HAVE MADE ALOT OF MISTAKES AND NOT HAD SUCH AN EASY TIME GETTING STARTED.

Customer Reviews:
A must read!.......2007-10-09
Even if you are not a real estate investor you can understand these clear and structured techniques. You will learn strategies to take advantage of a good or "bad" market... and then, become an investor.
A Worthy Read In A Crowded Field -- Buy It!.......2007-09-03
My profession has lead me to read many, many real estate investing books and truth be told, most are mediocre at best -- this book is not one of those! I don't know either Ms. Patton, or Mr. Ryan, but I have read Ms. Patton's previous book and I think that this one is even better. In my opinion, Ms. Patton and Mr. Ryan have managed to put together a very timely, readable and informative book. Not just a rehash of the basics, this book offers information that actually advances the base of knowledge available to the average investor.
In the spirit of full disclosure, I should say that I am an attorney, real estate broker, investor, trainer, and author of another unique and highly readable book on real estate investing that can also be found here on Amazon -- The WealthLoop Series Beginner's Guide to Building Wealth Buying Houses: The Foolproof Roadmap to Real Estate Riches Without the Risks and Hassles of Landlording. Unlike many real estate investing books, it is written to be a genuine "How To" book that "takes you by the hand" and walks you through a step-by-step process for getting started in real estate investing -- investors across the country are giving it rave reviews. The book also includes sample leases, forms, and checklists, so that you can actually go out and implement the investing strategy it teaches as soon as you're done reading.
I believe that both are very good books and combining the techniques taught in each will jump you light years ahead of the average investor. I would suggest that you buy them both if you are serious about making a success of real estate investing.
Good and Timely Resource! .......2007-08-25
Well done. And great timing. The only thing missing from this book is what most others lack - a detailed treatment of the evidence and extent of the real estate bubble, and guidance how to read changing market conditions. For this, I strongly recommend "Cashing in on the Real Estate Bubble" as a companion book. Cashing in on the Real Estate Bubble Together, both books should be all you need.
Great Insight, Great Book!.......2007-08-23
I had heard about this book from a friend of mine, so last week I picked up at Borders. I spent the entire evening reading this very well written book which gives countless information and insight to hone your investment skills.
Both authors give details on how you should be investing and after reading the book, I now know how to spend my time and money, something other books fail to explain.
I was so intrigued by the book, I went on line to learn more about the authors and real estate investing and found a ton of information on the authors, Wendy Patton and Justin Ryan. Both have a lot of experience and offer additional information and details and now I am hooked on their hands-off approach to investing. This is truly a must-read for both professional and fledgling investors.

Shacked Up
A Lifestyle Thing
The dream might be dead, but at least Rich gets to keep the flat. Okay, he's not going to be a multimillionaire by the time he's twenty, but he's still making money and he's living in his boss's London apartment rent-free. So he's got his own place, he's got the gorgeous, if high-maintenance, Portia (well, almost) -- and he's got total freedom.
You can't put a price on that.
Trouble is, now he's got Bonny, too. She landed on his doorstep one night looking to escape from her controlling mother. She needed a place to stay, and Rich could hardly say no. But with Bonny hanging about indefinitely, will Rich find his independence -- not to mention his relationship with Portia -- compromised?
The second book in the edgy new trilogy from Kate Cann.
Customer Reviews:
Shacked Up even better than first.......2006-06-01
Shacked Up is an extremely well written contemporary novel by Kate Cann. Cann uses universal literary techniques such as detailed characterization and unique diction. In addition, a strong plot and picture-perfect imagery make this an enjoyable book to read.
The characterization becomes apparent in the first few pages of the story. Immediately the reader knows how Bonny feels, and that it is because of her crazy mother, Tigger. Also, as a reader I knew exactly how Rich felt every single second throughout the book.
The great thing about the vocabulary is the British words thrown in. This story does take place in London, or somewhere near, so an England dialect makes for a unique reading experience.
The purpose for Kate Cann to publish Shacked Up is for the entertainment value. She does an amazing job in entertaining the readers. Every page made me more and more interested in what was going to happen next.
The ideal audience for Shacked Up is teenagers who normally do not enjoy reading. She does a great job with attracting that type of person. This, along with the other books in the series, is the only book I have ever been able to not put down, and actually read outside of school for fun.
It Keeps Getting Better.......2004-12-13
This is the second novel of the trilogy. This novel is even better than the first. Now, Rich is on his own and readers get to see everything that comes with it. Cann is an excellent writer and keeps the reader hooked. I can't do anything until I finish reading her novels. I was even reading this novel on Thanksgiving Day! I love how Cann can use imagery, vocabulary, and a good strong plot to make a novel that's intriguing! This is a must read!
AWSOME.......2004-03-05

better than you think.......2003-03-29
I have shared this book with several organizations including both senior staff and board members ... all have found it very practical and energy-creating. The concepts are perhaps not new but Steckel puts together a simple, step by step process for people who have not been through it before. This makes it a little less overwhelming and a lot more doable. Of particular importance it the fact that a entrepreneurial venture must be embedded into your organization strategically and practically. So many business ventures become badly managed warts on the organization. Steckels approach helps prevent this from happening.
I wonder if the reviewers who panned the book: a) already run successful businesses making this book too basic or b) have a bitter taste in their mouths from failed ventures (maybe they should read the book again!)or c)wouldn't be caught dead sticking their necks out in a planned and deliberate way that Steckel prescribes.
All in all ... its worth the read. Don't let the title put you off. His point is "there is not dirty money and clean money there is only money."

Upon checking for my review just now, I realized that I erroneously reviewed this second edition. I assumed that I was writing about the first edition only. I have NOT READ the second edition. So please remove my review from the panel of reviews for this second edition. I could not leave the rating item blank, so the rating of 1--has no relevance. I apologize for the inconvenience.
worthwhile.......2002-04-12
Good for non-profit managers and board members who are not familiar with the subtleties and possibilities of income earning opportunities. Also, those with some knowledge and experience of having partnerships with businesses can validate what they are doing and get other ideas. The book has many vignettes to illustrate the authors' ideas and suggestions. Most of these are real life examples, not hypothetical. The title, however, can turn off people, sounds almost greedy and tacky. If one persists though, I think the authors give a more respectable twist to the phrase, "Filthy rich", somewhere in the introduction, and dont mean what it sounds. In contrast, the title of Steckel's other book, "Making Money While Making a Difference" is more appealing. Steckel has academic and consulting experience, so I would give credibility; however, the title makes you wonder if it is overstated. Read with caution but enthusiasm, which is perhaps what the authors really intended.
buy this book immediately.......2001-04-01
Worth the read and certainly the modest price. For the rookie and intermediate non-profit manager and board.
useless.......2001-03-23
The title should have been a warning. The information given is a general summary of the usual semantics found in Marketing 101 and Management 101. I have never seen a book with nothing but generalizations (239 pages in large print - it could easily fit into half that size) and no useful material. Whatever you are looking for, you will not find in here.

This is a good mystery story, full of action, sex, and graphic violence, what more can you want. Unfortunately this time the story takes place in San Diego and Tijuana, and so it lack the seductive setting and ambiance of Hawaii. Also the plot is more contrives and not as tightly written, but its still good, just not as good as his other stories.

TRAVIS LIVES!! (ALMOST).......2001-10-18
(...)When John D. MacDonald, author of a dozen or more novels featuriing Travis McGee, died several years ago, he left legions of Travis fans mourning his loss. In Sand Dollars, Charles Knief brings us a Travis-like character in John Caine, private eye. Actually, this is his second appearance in what promises to be a series.
Caine, like Travis, is intelligent, ideallistic (in his own unique way), observes a strict code of ethics, chooses his own private eye jobs, and resists becoming sexually involved with clients. And like Travis, Caine lives on his own boat, comparable to Travis' Busted Flush.
That said, Sand Dollars is more or less your standard pot boiler. Caine kills a half-dozen or so bad guys, escapes from seemingly inescapable life-threatening situations, and in the end is triumphant over evil. Despite all this, or maybe because of all this, we look forward to more adventures of John Caine. Sand Dollars is entertaining reading and Caine an acceptable protagonist. He just isn't Travis McGee. But then, who is?
It was OK. Got my attention and then totally lost it..........2001-08-12
This book was OK. It did have interesting points, but I didn't feel that all the characters were credible (who could get away with killing a whole bunch of people in Mexico anyway?).
All in all, it was reading entertainment, just not too fullfilling.
Good solid entertainment.......2000-08-27
Charles Kneif has managed to put together an character that is easy to like in PI John Caine, a retired naval officer and sailing enthusiast with weak spots for beautiful yachts and women. I have read the first two novels Diamond head and Sand Dollars, and I'm right now reading the third in the series. Though Caine is a nice guy, it is hard to get a deeper grip of him and his background, and I believe it would be beneficial if the author could be a little more detailed about his experiences and earlier life that could cast a new light on the present and add more depth to the story line.
I'm Convinced...Give me more of John Caine!.......2000-07-07
I just discovered Charles Knief's John Caine in "Diamond Head" and got to know him much better in "Sand Dollars" and I'm still a charged-up fan! Will start "Emerald Flash," the third in the saga of the ex-SEAL-turned-private-eye. My heart just breaks for Caine as he tries to get on with his life after losing his beloved boat and his girlfriend in the first book. In this second novel, he gets on with his life by getting involved in a stateside caper far from his home in Hawaii--but it's OK 'cause he needed to go to San Diego to buy a new boat anyway. What awaits him in California and the Baja is just one adventure and close-call after another. Man, I love this guy--he is so resilient and tough. I'm about to start the third novel featuring this flawed, but lovable hero. I almost hate to do it because I know that it's the last book about John Caine so far. Hurry up, Mr. Knief, and give me more!

The Ups and Downs of Teen.......2006-03-13
The book "Hard Cash" by Kate Cann takes place in Europe and the main character is a seventeen-year-old guy named Rich. Despite is name he is no where close to being rich. The story has many life lessons and any teenager can relate to the hardships that Rich goes through. In my opinion this is a great book to read on your own time.
The story is about a guy named Rich who doesn't have much money and is an artest who goes to college. Seeking for money Rich sends his pictures he drew to a few agencies. One agency calls him and thought that they could use the drawing for designs. The agent named Nick didn't promise anything, but said he could go for a dinner meeting with some clients. They went and it went well, they didn't want to use Rich's drawings. Rich got his hopes up too much and let money rule his life. Rich thought he was going to get the job so he didn't apply himself that much to his studies in college. That slipped and his parents got mad and his life went down to the dumps again. Thanks to his art professor, the college didn't kick him out and thanks to Nick's lovely wife he got a place to stay and his life shaped up. So no matter how bad your life can get everything can always shape up and never let things rule your life like money.
To conclude, I recommend this book to anyone that wants to relate to real life situations and to who ever is looking for a good book to read. This was a good book and I rate it highly. It has many life learning lessons such as to always know who your friends and an never loose sight of what you DO have because there is always ways and things you could have more of. Money never is an object and it never buys happiness. Rich learned it the hard way by counting on it too much, and if he didn't have the people that cared about him so much he would be in a deep hole. So, go and read this excellent book to really find out all the ups and down that Rich goes through in his life.
Am on the final novel of the trilogy now!.......2004-12-13
This trilogy is absolutely fantastic. The first novel introduces you to Rich and his world. Everything in it is interesting. The novel is fast-paced with constant action. The novel is hip, fresh, and real. None of the daddy's little rich girls quarrling here- save it for Gossip Girls. Anyone can relate to Rich and the other characters in Hard Cash. I recommend this trilogy for grades 11 up because the Cann writes with a good usage of vocabulary.
What a great book!.......2004-06-29
I loved this book! I thought Kate Cann did a great job catching the reader's attention throughout the whole book, unlike other authors. Although I found it a little confusing with the English talk, I managed. Kate Cann did a great job writing this book and I would recommend it to any teenager who is looking for a great book; and I can't wait to read the two other books in the series!
Hard Cash is best.......2004-01-16
Hard Cash is one of the best college student stories ever. It really captures the reader so that it is almost imossible to put the book down. I'm sure many young adults can find themselves in the same situations as Rich (main character).
This is a most read!
