Book Description

Beth Killian's 310 series heats up as rising "It girl" Eva Cordes lands her first starring role -- and a notorious Hollywood bad boy!

What do you get when you mix broken hearts and superstar egos? Drama, drama, and more drama. With her family in chaos, her roommates at each other's throats, and her ex-boyfriend Danny refusing to return her calls, good girl Eva Cordes is desperate for her luck to turn around. So when she snags a role in Westchester County, TV's hottest new primetime hit, she's thrilled. But the casting directors must have made a mistake -- she's been cast as a vampy vixen? Talk about playing against type.

Being the star of the show is more than Eva bargained for -- she has kissing scenes with both her aunt's actor boyfriend (ick!) and smoldering Aussie heartthrob Teague Archer, plus the show is filming on the UCLA campus -- home to the ex-boyfriend she hasn't quite gotten over. And when she's not dealing with boy trouble on the set, she's trying to get to know the older brother she just found out she had (nice going, Mom!). Eva is ready to give up on boys forever, but Teague Archer -- the guy every girl wants -- has decided he wants Eva. This good girl is no match for his bad boy ways...or is she? Eva just might surprise everyone -- including herself.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect ending to a great series!.......2007-07-07

Boy Trouble. Though the title may seem extremely juvenile, the book really wowed me. With twists and turned i never expected. Beth Killian really proved herself to me with this series. I believe that this may be the last book in the series, but i am not positive. You really begin to feel like you are eva, and you understand what shes going through, because she is like most girls, who just need help finding themselves. I wish that the ending was a little different, but not because it was bad writing.
How about you just read Boy Trouble and find out for yourself. It really is a great beach read!! I garentee you'll love it.

5 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Teens Read Too.......2007-03-15

In this third installment in Beth Killian's THE 310 series, life is as full of drama as ever for Eva and her friends and family in Los Angeles. Eva's life is overwhelming in all aspects. In her family, she's got her crazy mother to deal with as well as a newfound brother, Thomas. Of course, her life wouldn't be complete without boy, career, and friend drama as well. After all, this is Hollywood!

There's some new drama as well as continuations of the old in BOY TROUBLE. Jacinda's sister is in town, for one thing--and she's getting married. Jacinda may be trying to fit in a romance of her own, too...With Eva's new brother, Thomas! Life in the 310 is as crazy as ever.

BOY TROUBLE might be even more fun and fabulous than books one and two in the series! Highly entertaining and well-written, this latest in the drama-filled series certainly does not disappoint. Full of the wonderful characters readers know and love, as well as some new ones, this funny, fantastic novel will have readers flipping pages as quickly as their fingers will allow.

Book Description

In the tradition of Bright Lights, Big City and Less Than Zero, Tom Dolby has written a searing debut novel about going after what you really want without losing yourself in the process. Powerfully written, keenly felt, The Trouble Boy heralds an exciting new voice in fiction.

"This is about fame and celebrity and the lengths to which people will go to have a taste of it..."

At twenty-two, Toby Griffin wants it all-fame, fortune, an Oscar-winning screenplay and a good-looking boyfriend by his side. For now, what he's got is a freelance writing job at a tanking online magazine, a walk-up sublet in the East Village and "the boys," a young posse of preppy Upper East Siders with a taste for high fashion, top-shelf liquor and other men.

But for Toby, downing vodka cranberries and falling in and out of lust with a series of guys he knows as Subway Boy, Loft Boy and Goth Boy is getting old. So is being pursued by his best friend Jamie while secretly desiring his co-worker, Donovan, a sexual adventurer who seems intent on conducting his own Kinsey report in bedrooms across the city. That all changes when Toby gets the chance of a lifetime-working as a personal assistant to hip, ruthless film mogul, Cameron Cole. Picking up Cameron's steamed veggies and typing up his memos is Toby's entrée to the big time, moving in a dizzying crowd of celebrities and power makers. Suddenly he's swilling champagne with scenemakers like publicist Ariana Richards, Hollywood bombshell Jordan Gardner, and club performer Lola Copacabana. In this decadent, drug-fueled world of VIP lounges, endless networking and relentless hype, Toby discovers that nothing is what is seems and that anything and anyone can be spun into PR gold. Though he's making friends with all the right people. Toby realizes that succeeding in Manhattan isn't as easy as he thought-until the one tragic night that changes his future forever and puts him in a position of power he never could have imagined.

But with Toby's name suddenly becoming Page Six material, his life is coming unglued. And as his professional contacts betray him and his friends reveal troubling secrets, his choices become that much harder-and that much more important. Now, in his first year on his own, Toby Griffin is about to learn the price of getting everything he ever wanted...

5 out of 5 stars great book, great cast of characters.......2007-09-17

So I just finished Tom Dolby's "The Trouble Boy." What a great urban story taking place in my favorite city, New York! And there's such a fun cast of characters who come in and out of the main character Toby's life. You have his gay posse, his professional contacts, and all the random boys who come and go. Throw in a somewhat troubled relationship with his parents too.

At first, I kind of felt like the book was a bit scattered. However, I ended up liking that feeling since it reflected Toby's hectic life after college as he tries reaching fame/success as a screenwriter. You get to come along with Toby on his various adventures in all the hot NYC night spots. You see Toby transform from a club hopping boy making questionable decisions to someone who ultimately finds himself by the end of the book. And it's such a fun ride!

I can't wait to read future works from Tom Dolby.

2 out of 5 stars Profound? but boring.......2007-06-18

This is one of those novels I purchased because of the reviews posted here, and was very disappointed in. Not quite as boring as another book I struggled to get through, but again, this is something where perhaps you have to be a certain age or type to understand what's driving the young man who is the lead here. Following his story, and the people in his life, wasn't very interesting, in fact two characters I kept confusing with each other, perhaps because of the similarities of their names, and when that happens, when you feel like you need to take notes on the characters names and their relationship to the main character in what is a very slow-paced unexciting life, you're in trouble. The character doesn't stick with me after reading on his life, and I have no interest in his "life" post novel. The best books you wonder about the characters after the final page is turned to THE END. Here, I don't care. I was relieved, however, to have made it through the book in a matter of a few days, so it didn't consume too much of my life. But because like movies, books can sometimes come to life, I believe in sticking with the choice until the bitter end. The lead character here seems to be an ambitious, not brilliant, nor that talented young man, perhaps with that sense of entitlement a certain generation has ingrained within them, and the fleeting stupid mistakes he commits that don't have long-lasting consequences anyway. And the fact he has successful parents - even a well-known fashion designer mother? What was the point? They could have been the owners of the local pharmacy or a neighborhood restaurant for all the import that had.

1 out of 5 stars Freshman attempt .......2006-09-04

Don't waste your time on this trite that was probably (hopefully) written with 14 year olds in mind. I have to say I did get a laugh from the fact there were group discussion questions at the end of the book. Did anyone with some level of intelligence find anything deep enough to ponder and think about in this book?

4 out of 5 stars Great, Page Turning Read.......2006-08-23

Tom Dolby's novel was a very compelling and enjoyable summer read. I kept finding myself putting down Elizabeth Kostova's HISTORIAN to pick up Dolby's novel. They're EXTREMELY different books, but some nights I couldn't deal with the Ottomon Empire and its association with Vlad The Impaler (Dracula) and wanted something fun to read. The author clearly has (or had) his hand on the pulse of what it was (or is) to be young, gay and trying to make a name for himself in New York. (Wait, Dracula may be more closely related to the subject matter than I realized) Seriously, in several instances I found myself not liking some of the main character's (Toby) choices. Of course this is not the author's fault, he allowed his character to take his appropriate journey and we as the reader (whether we liked Toby's choices or not) got to watch from the outside in -- even if we ocassionally cringed.

4 out of 5 stars Fabulous and fun, but not great literature.......2005-08-15

I only read gay debut novels if the author is hot, since most gay debut novels are largely autobiographical and I usually use the author's image when envisioning the protagonist's actions. Tom Dolby's picture passed the test, so I bought the book, and finished it in one night. Spiced with often amusing social observations, several references to my favorite fashion designers, and enjoyably superficial characters, The Trouble Boy did keep me hooked. I was very disappointed when Toby, the protagonist, made the "right" decision at the end, and all of a sudden almost everything in his life became perfect. So, the superficial characters and predictable storyline will keep critics from calling this great literature, but who cares, since it's a fun read.

By the way, TOBY = TOm dolBY.

5 out of 5 stars My favorite Goosebumps book.......2007-09-03

I was an avid reader of the Goosebumps series when I was younger, so much so that I read every single title in the series, even though by the time the last one was published, I was old enough to know they really weren't very good, particularly toward the end. Deep Trouble was my favorite, though I can understand why others my not have liked it. There was nothing even remotely scary about it, and in spite of the cover, I don't remember any shark playing a major role (I think there was a brief shark scare at the beginning, in one of those irrelevant sequences Stine often used to keep the book moving). The plot was that the main character's uncle, a marine biologist or something, was part of the crew on a ship that captured a meraid and was planning to sell it into captivity, or to scientists who wanted to perform unethical experiments on it, or something that would at any rate make the mermaid very unhappy. One of the main guys turns out to be a traitor who tries to kill the main characters, but in the end everything works out fine and the mermaid is released back to the wild, etc. etc.

What impressed me about this book was the relationship between Billy (aforementioned main character) and the mermaid, which I don't remember speaking. Perhaps because the opporunities for scares don't present themselves as often in this kind of plot as they might in, say, Night of the Living Dummy, Stine (not the most subtle of writers) turned it into a much more introspective novel than one would normally expect in this series. The main conflict is actually an internal one, as Billy debates whether to free the mermaid and clear his conscience, or obey the adults, who, to a twelve-year-old, are usually morally infallible. Stine also manages to garner the appropriate amount of sympathy for the mermaid. Maybe it's not as thrilling as a typical Goosebumps entry, but it's very touching and understated, which is a rarity from this author.

5 out of 5 stars Deep Trouble.......2007-06-14

Have you ever been in a lagoon? The book I read was "Deep Trouble". The book is about a boy name Billy and his sister name Sheena. They go stay with their uncle, William Deep. They lived in a place called the Cassandra. When they were going to leave, Billy went swimming in the lagoon and he got bit in the ankle by a hammer shark. When they were going to leave for sure a big boat came with two people inside they said they have spotted a mermaid around here. They told William Deep if he caught the mermaid that they will give him one million dollars. Billy caught the mermaid and keeps it and started to do tests on it. Alexander a assistant of them and four other men stole the mermaid and started to drown Billy and Sheena and Billy's uncle were trap in a big tank. They get free by other mermaids that came then they found the mermaid and they let it go. When the zoo people came they told them that there was no mermaid it was just an illusion.

4 out of 5 stars Deep Trouble.......2007-01-29

When I first saw the cover of this book it looked really cool to me because it had a big shark on it. I thought this book would be more about sharks like other reviews said but it had mermaids in it instead. Even though it wasn't really about sharks I still like the characters and the storyline of the book. This book is about a brother and sister, Sheena and Billy who are visiting there uncle Dr.Deep, who studies things in the water. In the book everyone is on a ship. Later in the book Billy finds a mermaid in the water. This book isn't a super scary book, but it is for sure one you have to read in the series, its a good book!!

5 out of 5 stars deep trouble.......2006-01-06

you will like this book Deep trouble because it begins like this a boy is looking for a griant sting ray and he gos to the middled and gets suck underwater then he went back to surface and gasp for air then he races he sister he took a short cut he stops he had steped on fire coral it burned his foot and he found a mermaid they count it the mermaid i can't tell you the ending....

5 out of 5 stars All About A Good Book.......2005-09-27

This is all about the book Deep Trouble. It is about these people thinking that they caught a mermaid and then these zoo people came and said that they would give the other people one million dollars, but the oter people did not give them the mermaid, and thats how the book went, this was one of the best books I have ever read.

2 out of 5 stars Based on UPN-TV's Enterprise show........2002-12-20

Chet brings the gang along to appear on Bayport's version of the UPN TV Network's show Star Trek: Enterprise. Not the greatest mystery, but fans of the Star Trek tv show will enjoy this.

    Book Description

Junebug hasn’t seen his friend Robert since the family moved from their housing project in May. It’s Labor Day weekend, reunion time, and Mama, Tasha, Harriet, and Junebug are off to the beach. Robert is there, but so is Trevor, another boy from the project. Trevor is a gang member; Trevor has a gun. With Junebug gone, Trevor has easily befriended Robert. Robert might even join Trevor’s gang, the Rex. How can Junebug stop him? At the same time, Junebug wonders about his own father, who’s been imprisoned for more than six years. Junebug longs to know him, to know that he’s innocent – and that if he’s not, Junebug won’t necessarily turn out like him.

With all the spunk with which he made his dream come true in Junebug and assimilated a whole new life in Junebug and the Reverend, Alice Mead’s ten-year-old hero sets out to save his friend and understand his father.

3 out of 5 stars okay, not very exciting.......2001-08-30

i've always loved the hardy boys books but these newer ones are not very good. there really isn't much mystery or action left in them. i was also a little surprised to see that they brought iola back into them, she died in the casefiles, why bring her back? i've been disappointed lately at how downhill the books have gone, same as the nancy drew series. i think from now on i'll stick to the older books and actually read something entertaining
