Book Description
Meet Denver, a man raised under plantation-style slavery in Louisiana in the 1960s; a man who escaped, hopping a train to wander, homeless, for eighteen years on the streets of Dallas, Texas. No longer a slave, Denver's life was still hopeless-until God moved. First came a godly woman who prayed, listened, and obeyed. And then came her husband, Ron, an international arts dealer at home in a world of Armani-suited millionaires. And then they all came together.
But slavery takes many forms. Deborah discovers that she has cancer. In the face of possible death, she charges her husband to rescue Denver. Who will be saved, and who will be lost? What is the future for these unlikely three? What is God doing?
Same Kind of Different As Me is the emotional tale of their story: a telling of pain and laughter, doubt and tears, dug out between the bondages of this earth and the free possibility of heaven. No reader or listener will ever forget it.

What a Great Read!.......2007-10-10
This book was recommended by a colleague and I could not find it here in Key West. I ordered two copies from Amazon and gave them both to friends (after reading). I was moved to tears by parts of the book. If anybody has any concerns about homeless issues, this book will renew one's faith in what can be done. It is one of the finest books on homeless issues that I have read in many years.
Very touching.......2007-10-01
This is a very readable book. It is also extremely touching. Several times as I read,I found tears streaming down my face. It will restore your faith in mankind and that there is more to a person than meets the eye.
A must read book.......2007-09-29
I don't have proper words to express this "amazing" book.
I can now better understand how it used to be in Slave times,
and feel a better understanding of my own faith and life after death.
I cried at moments of revealation! Would help anyone become a believer.
This book changed my life!.......2007-09-25
It's very easy to forget that this is a true story - it is such an amazing story that it could be fiction! It's a beautiful, poignant, touching book and it changed the way I view the homeless and how I share my resources with others. LOVED IT and I've been telling everyone I know to read it too!!
book.......2007-09-18
I ordered this book for my husband who had heard it was wonderful. He thought it was the best book he had ever read and he highly recommends it!!

Customer Reviews:
Good for our family.......2007-09-25
I'm learning things about my kids and husband that I would have never guessed. I would highly recommend these conversation cards as a way to learn more about each other in a fun and interesting way. My kids love it!
Lots of fun.......2007-01-11
I bought this because my family had fallen in such a routine rut, same old converstion during dinner we had started turning on the tv, and this is something i never wanted for us. When i opened the cards and we started to use them everything changed!! no more tv and we have actually learned alot about eachother!! i would HIGHLY recommed this product, i also purchaded the table talk for kids, again i highly recommed, you do learn alot about eaccother and they make you think about things that you probably hadnt thought to even ask!!
Great way to get the conversation rolling...........2006-12-27
I had read about this in a magazine. The box is filled with info and questions to get the conversation rolling at the dinner table...and it does just that. Geared toward older teens/adults. What a great idea!
Thought Provoking.......2006-10-24
We've had Food for Talk for over a year and I just came on to buy it as a gift for friends. Our kids ages 12,10 and 5 may be a little on the young side for some of the topics, but we pick and choose (and our little one usually doesn't participate much).
We eat dinner as a family almost every night, yet somehow don't have very many meaningful conversations. The topics give parents an opportunity to talk about things that often don't come up in normal conversation, as well as learn about what is going on in our kids' minds. We don't pull out the box very often, but everyone enjoys it when we do.
Even for teenage boys!.......2005-12-27
Excellent product. My teenage boys laugh when I put it on the table and pull out a card. They usually say something as a joke first, we all laugh and then the conversation starts almost magically.

Great advice.......2007-08-16
My boyfriend and I decided to move in together and I was struggling with the issues this would bring to my ÜBER-traditional family. The book gave us good examples and advice on how to help them understand our decision.
Excellent.......2007-04-06
I HIGHLY recommend this volume for cohabitating couples. It's very readable and very thorough.
I have been waiting for this book!.......2005-07-23
I have to write a big thank you to Solot and Miller for this book. This is the book that I have been waiting for. Other relationship self-help books have not addressed the important issues in this book about the ins and outs of living with one's partner and the value in alternatives to marriage. I highly recommend this book to anyone who's thinking of living with one's partner.
Great Book.......2003-11-21
This is an essential ready for anyone living with a domestic partner of either sex. It offers support for those who do not want to get married and those who can not.
That and its lots of fun to leave lying around when his mother comes over!
Part of a good combination.......2003-08-30
Pair this with "Living Together- A Legal Guide for Unmarried Couples" and you have a great resource. "Unmarried Together" is excellent in addressing the social and emotional aspects of living together, but is light on the legal angles. Considering the scope of the book, this is unavoidable. It's difficult to cover laws in all US states let alone other countries.

Small, Handy and practical.......2007-02-22
I havent read it completely - but so far so good. Love the size as I can take it to class when I teach. Also like the pictures and explanations. Would love if they recommended different sequencing for a 20 min to 1 hour partner yoga session. Don't know if they do since I havent read it thoroughly. Also, recommend any adjustments for different types of bodies and range of flexibility.
yoga for partners.......2006-03-20
I liked this book, it was perfect and just what I was looking for. I was desiginig a "partner yoga demonstration" for a new yoga studio opening and needed some help. I found it in this book. Nice layout, nice photos, small enough to carry around to reference when needed.

not thorough enough.......2007-09-13
Each section starts with a form and then simply explains how to fill it out. The book does a good job of explaining things in clear language, but it does not go into great detail. There is a small section on durable power of attorney and health care directives but it does not include forms. The book points you to Quicken Lawyer Personal Deluxe for that. It deals with issues that might pertain to couples receiving social security and those with children and/or ex-spouses. But I don't think there is enough information for young "DINKs" (dual income, no kids).
Living together, a legal guide for unmarried couples 13ed.......2007-08-02
This book is the best legal book I have seen for unmarried couples living together. I teaches how to do taxes, contracts of all sorts, and the dos and dont's. Its very in depth but easy to understand. Excellent choice.
Great book, just not if you live in certain states..........2004-03-18
This book is great. It made me think about a lot of things, being unmarried to my live-in partner and having a young child. However, we are moving to Illinois soon, and this book does NOT apply to unmarried, heterosexual couples there. Illinois is one of a handful of states that has laws against cohabitation. If you live in Illinois or another state that still has these types of laws on the books, none of the legal documents that this book helps you prepare are going to hold up in court. I think it's great, however, that a book like this exists and is so detailed and helpful. Cohabitating couples, especially those of us who have children together and plan to buy homes or own property together, need to know the legal issues as individuals and as a couple. I highly recommend this book, though it probably isn't worth your time if your state still has the anti-cohabitation laws.
Don't live with someone unless you've read this book.......2003-06-18
Readers should note that this book was written for unmarried opposite-sex couples only. Same-sex couples should instead read _A Legal Guide for Lesbian and Gay Couples_ by Hayden Curry and Denis Clifford, also published by Nolo. Although many of the issues overlap regardless of sexual orientation, this book considers specifically the concerns facing unmarried male-female partners.
Within this scope, this book does a wonderful job of exploring every legal detail unmarried couples should consider when sharing a household. This is the stuff you'll hopefully never have to consider if your lives go happily ever after, but just in case they don't, both you and your partner will be glad to have in writing certain understandings that spouses automatically have granted to them by law. The authors make this wonderful suggestion: "Approach the task in the spirit of clarifying your understanding and preserving the shared memory of two fair-minded people." At its best, using this book will not only hammer out legal essentials but strengthen your relationship with your partner.
The book covers "living together" contracts, finances, sharing real estate (rented or purchased), estate planning, starting a family, confronting issues that stem from one partner having previously been married, and what to do if you separate. A lot of it is common sense, but common sense may vary by state, and the book does a good job of noting exceptions. It's written in plain language, and if you're not a lawyer, I guarantee you'll find stuff in here that you'd never think of in a million years but could be vitally important. (For instance, if your partner owns a home in her name only but the two of you have agreed in writing to keep all your personal property separate, her homeowners' insurance will not cover your property if a disaster occurs!)
If you love creating neat and tidy forms electronically, you'll love the companion CD-ROM, which has all the forms discussed in the chapters. If you're not so great with computers, don't worry -- most of the forms are available at the back of the book to be torn out and filled in by hand or by typewriter.
Planning to maybe someday get married? Using this book is still a good idea, plus it includes a section on pre-marital agreements and explains whether or not a living-together contract qualifies as one for your circumstances.
My only complaint -- I wish making all of the necessary decisions were as easy and straightforward as this book was to read!
Get It In Writing!.......2003-03-31
As Judge Judy points out to her audience, there are no courts that protect couples living together. People who decide to live together, need to set up a legal contract. When things fall apart, the last thing needed is the distress and lawsuits that don't have any validity of who or what is owed. In a society that pushes marriage on men and women, it's refreshing to know that there are people who choose to be happy with an alternative lifestyle. When the marriage falters, couples have to seek legal assistance to end their marriage. And divorce drags on for years because the courts fuel the fire which drains both parties emotionally and financially. And children are caught in this mudslinging. Perhaps an alternative to marriage may change the divorce laws in this country.
Book Description
This brilliant comic trilogy details the amorous exploits of Norman, assistant librarian, whose one aim is to make the women of his life happy—these women being, as it happens, three sisters, one of them his wife, who can’t wear contact lenses because “life with Norman is full of unexpected eye movements.” Each play stands uproariously on its own yet interlocks with the others to form an ingenious Chinese puzzle of successive relations.
Customer Reviews:
The scripts for all three fantastic plays........2001-01-02
In the late 1970s PBS presented a hilarious trilogy of plays called "The Norman Conquests." I've been trying ever since to find them again. And here they are! This volume contains the scripts for all three of these amazing plays. Their premise: Norman is a real charmer who seduces (not necessarily sexually) everybody he meets. Each of the three plays takes place on a different stage. It's the same story and the same six characters, but seen from what happens only in each room in each play. It's an amazing accomplishment for a writer. This book carries an introduction by Ayckbourn that explains how he did it. And he says the plays are meant to be seen in any order. But I prefer the order given here: "Table Manners" (in the dining room), "Living Together" (the sitting room) and "Round and Round the Garden." If you haven't experienced it, the videos are available now (finally!), as well. The production (the same I saw on PBS) stars Tom Conti as an unforgettable Norman.
Acute social observation. Highly comical........1998-04-27
Terrific work (again!) from this major British playwright showing a disasterous family weekend where a would be Casanova sets his sights on his sister in law and the whole family ultimately become involved. Although written and set in the mid 1970s it remains just as funny (if not more so) now. All of the characters are classics and there are a feast of one liners. It really needs a stage production to be done justice though.

Rightly Elevates the Faith Community.......2005-02-18
Morris rightly elevates the role of the faith community in the process of discernment and decision-making. He states that individual discernment has limitations; God's will for the world and the church requires corporate discernment. While the process of discernment does recognize the insights of individuals, "it also looks to the wisdom of the whole community as people talk to one another, come to consensus, and take action." The aim is to "see where the Spirit rests." The author suggests that decision making should take place in the context of worship where the agenda is offered to God. Church business sessions should include elements of prayer, song, affirmations of faith, Bible study, story telling, silence and celebration. Morris's message is summarized in these words: "Decision making can no longer be defined as doing what we think is best; it should be a search for the mind and will of God within a community of people with whom God has chosen to dwell."
Peaceful Practices for Decision-making.......1999-07-02
Tired of the usual administrative hassle using the church's version of Parliamentary procedure, I turned to this book, which promised a more spiritual way of making decisions. Imagine decision-making based on an understanding of spirituality instead of legalisms! Morris and Olsen offer such a practice through their discernment process. (They get a little cute as they explore the process and coin words based on discernment, but that can be excused.) This is a fine book. It allows those who feel intimidated by the rules of parliamentary proceduce to move beyond that and offers the timid fresh ways to act on their convictions.
The book has a helpful chart that shows the step-by-step process of moving toward discernment. I found the illustrations helpful and the cover art connects with the ancient tradition of the church and represents a sense of listening for God.

Healing Night: The Science and Spirit of Sleeping, Dreaming, and Awakening
ASIN: 0762424036 |
Book Description
An estimated 30 million Americans experience low back pain at any given time. Many seek relief through surgery, medication, and physical therapy. But self-help has a great appeal for those who'd like to learn to relieve pain at home without costly professional treatment. Now, couples, partners, and family members can follow safe, effective, hands-on techniques to help each other relieve back, neck, and musculoskeletal pain. Dr. Andrew Kirschner uses a clear, descriptive style and detailed photographs to demonstrate more than 30 easily accomplished techniques. He also discusses the psychological aspects of chronic pain, and how that affects the dynamics within the relationship and the family. Kirschner has found that "the skilled touch of a loved one can have a more positive, lasting effect on one's well being than any technique applied by a physician or therapist," and offers plenty of anecdotal proof in this exciting new book. More than 60 terrific how-to photographs (taken at the beach rather than in a studio, for a more accessible and upbeat approach) give a concise picture of how simple these techniques can be.
Customer Reviews:
great book.......2007-05-06
This is a great book. The instructions are simple, the illustrations are clear, and Dr. Kirschner has genuine insight into pain and how it affects couples. I can't wait for the DVD.
The perfect gift for newlyweds.......2006-07-22
Besides being a great addition to my own collection, this book has become my new standby wedding gift. It makes a wonderful personalized addition to a gift off the registry. I have already added the book to 2 wedding gifts and both couples thanked me multiple times for the wonderful bonding experiences and relief the book had provided them.
You rock Andrew!.......2006-03-23
I absolutely love this book! I've been a chronic neck and back pain sufferer for more than 7 years and this book has really saved my life. No more am I trying to explain how to adjust my back based on what feels like my I've read the book cover to cover. It's a permenant fixture on my coffee table now! Thanks for writing a practical, hands on, fix to my pain!
Refreshing and practical outlook on pain.......2005-12-30
I have been a chronic back and neck pain sufferer for years. Old sports injuries, car/motorcycle accidents, and major amounts of stress all contributed to a constant and predictable level of pain in my life.
When I had money I regularly saw massage therapists, accupuncturists and the like and when I did not I treated my pain with ibuprofen or simply resigned myself to living with it.
Dr. Kirschner's book has been a refreshing tool in helping me tackle a persistent and frustrating condition. My wife has applied several of the techniques to me with positive results (including ones that have helped relieve some of the pain and pressure associated with my chronic sinusaitis). While I have a ways to go, the simple fact that I am no longer popping Advils like Pez candy is a major improvement in my day to day activities. I have also realized how much I had resigned myself to living with a certain level of pain and how that alone has curtailed my activity and ability to enjoy the simple things.
I would love to see these techniques on video. While the book is a great resource seeing these techniques "live" would help my wife and I really understand their application.
Easy for a layperson to follow.......2005-12-28
Wonderfully written. Very intelligent & chock full of information, yet extremely easy to get into. Andrew Kirschner's ideas are very fresh & innovative. A user friendly guide to overcoming back pain. I was able to help my wife with the techniques, which are not complicated. A must read for anyone looking for a back fix without medications or surgery.
