Usability design is one of the most important--yet often least attractive--tasks for a Web developer. In Don't Make Me Think, author Steve Krug lightens up the subject with good humor and excellent, to-the-point examples.

The title of the book is its chief personal design premise. All of the tips, techniques, and examples presented revolve around users being able to surf merrily through a well-designed site with minimal cognitive strain. Readers will quickly come to agree with many of the book's assumptions, such as "We don't read pages--we scan them" and "We don't figure out how things work--we muddle through." Coming to grips with such hard facts sets the stage for Web design that then produces topnotch sites.

Using an attractive mix of full-color screen shots, cute cartoons and diagrams, and informative sidebars, the book keeps your attention and drives home some crucial points. Much of the content is devoted to proper use of conventions and content layout, and the "before and after" examples are superb. Topics such as the wise use of rollovers and usability testing are covered using a consistently practical approach.

This is the type of book you can blow through in a couple of evenings. But despite its conciseness, it will give you an expert's ability to judge Web design. You'll never form a first impression of a site in the same way again. --Stephen W. Plain

Book Description

Five years and more than 100,000 copies after it was first published, it's hard to imagine anyone working in Web design who hasn't read Steve Krug's "instant classic" on Web usability, but people are still discovering it every day. In this second edition, Steve adds three new chapters in the same style as the original: wry and entertaining, yet loaded with insights and practical advice for novice and veteran alike. Don't be surprised if it completely changes the way you think about Web design.

Three New Chapters!

"I thought usability was the enemy of design until I read the first edition of this book. Don't Make Me Think! showed me how to put myself in the position of the person who uses my site. After reading it over a couple of hours and putting its ideas to work for the past five years, I can say it has done more to improve my abilities as a Web designer than any other book.

In this second edition, Steve Krug adds essential ammunition for those whose bosses, clients, stakeholders, and marketing managers insist on doing the wrong thing. If you design, write, program, own, or manage Web sites, you must read this book." -- Jeffrey Zeldman, author of Designing with Web Standards

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A thin book with everything you need.......2007-10-13

This book is excellent. It's very accessible and easy reading without being superficial. It's not a usability cookbook, it actually makes you understand its principles and gives you critical sense to analyze any website and see what's wrong (or right) with it.
I just couldn't find any negative points about the book.

5 out of 5 stars eye-opening analysis.......2007-10-07

I'm not a designer and I would by nature make many of the mistakes Krug points out in this great book. Krug's reasoning and reasoned approach that he presents in this book is invaluable.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic - Easy to Understand and Use.......2007-10-06

This book on internet usability has not only changed the way I design websites, it has changed my thinking on many areas of life. The other day I was asked to review a print media item and I kept saying to the designer - "Don't Make Me Think!" The idea of designing easy to use, simple to understand websites is so simple that it is often overlooked. This is a fantastic read. I'm halfway through my second reading of it.

5 out of 5 stars Mandatory reading for developing on the Web.......2007-09-28

As it promises, Steve Krug's Don't Make Me Think: 2nd Edition, is a quick, but extremely usable, guide to Web usability and design. The book took me less than a day to read (less than 3 hours), but has become, in my mind, a requirement for even beginners (like myself) of Web design. Since everyone who develops for the Web should have some idea of design and usability, this book should really be a mandatory requirement for said work.

In short, there's no reason not to read this book if you're developing for the Web (writing content, programming, etcetera), or working with a team that does so.

4 out of 5 stars Good content, poor binding.......2007-09-27

Others have said that Krug's book (2nd edition) is for those with little experience. That is exactly why I found it so useful. There are lots of concepts that are common sense, sure. But until they were pointed out I had not even considered them. His point about the usefulness of tabs was particularly useful to me. I am creating a site now and will incorporate them into my design.

My only complaint is with the binding. The book was so poorly produced that pages began to loosen and fall out before I was finished with the first reading. I am now looking for a big rubber band to hold everything together. I just hate it when that happens.

Book Description

The heartwarming and unforgettable story of a family in the making and the
wondrously neurotic dog who taught them what really matters in life

John and Jenny were just beginning their life together. They were young and in love, with a perfect little house and not a care in the world. Then they brought home Marley, a wiggly yellow furball of a puppy. Life would never be the same.

Marley quickly grew into a barreling, ninety-seven-pound streamroller of a Labrador retriever, a dog like no other. He crashed through screen doors, gouged through drywall, flung drool on guests, stole women's undergarments, and ate nearly everything he could get his mouth around, including couches and fine jewelry. Obedience school did no good—Marley was expelled. Neither did the tranquilizers the veterinarian prescribed for him with the admonishment, "Don't hesitate to use these."

And yet Marley's heart was pure. Just as he joyfully refused any limits on his behavior, his love and loyalty were boundless, too. Marley shared the couple's joy at their first pregnancy, and their heartbreak over the miscarriage. He was there when babies finally arrived and when the screams of a seventeen-year-old stabbing victim pierced the night. Marley shut down a public beach and managed to land a role in a feature-length movie, always winning hearts as he made a mess of things. Through it all, he remained steadfast, a model of devotion, even when his family was at its wit's end. Unconditional love, they would learn, comes in many forms.

Is it possible for humans to discover the key to happiness through a bigger-than-life, bad-boy dog? Just ask the Grogans.

1 out of 5 stars Boring.......2007-10-18

There are two camps of haters of this book. The first are those who feel that Grogan and his wife were terrible owners.

I belong to the other hater camp. I thought this book was boring and tedious. I have a dog. My dog dribbles water on the floor when she drinks. Your dog does too? What a coincidence! Hey, my kids push Cheerios off their high chair tray to our dog too! Hilarity! "Our front door had a small oblong window at eye level, four inches wide by eight inches long." Gripping. This book is filled with cliches and factiods. One chapter starts, "You don't give birth to your first child every day...." And here's a well formulated sentence: "Jenny began working the phone from her hospital bed, and a couple of days later my sweet, dear aunt Anita, a retired nurse who had come to America from Ireland as a teenager and now lived across the state from us, magically appeared, suitcase in hand, and cheerfully went about restoring order." You get the idea.

A final and tiny complaint: This couple only decides to move their small sons out of their neighborhood because their house is too small, and not because of all the MURDERS! But maybe I'm just overprotective.

If I wasn't reading this for book club, I would have stopped after Chapter 2.

5 out of 5 stars Top-notch canine story.......2007-10-14

I just finished the best dog book I've ever read! No kidding. I often laughed out loud ) and eventually cried silently . John and Jenny are beginning their married life together and they introduce a wggly furball of a yellow Labrador retriever puppy into their wedded bliss. "Life and love with world's worst dog." says the book jacket. Maybe that's why Marley is expelled two times from obedience school. If you like books about man's best friend, get this book and you'll enjoy it as much as I did.

5 out of 5 stars Great book.......2007-10-14

This was an adorable book. I loved reading it and will probably read it again... Such a cute story. This book brings to light what it's like to have a dog, a dog like Marley. I understand the things they went through with Marley, because we have a dog exactly like him. I highly recommend it. You will have a good laugh.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent!.......2007-10-14

I listened to "Marley and Me" during my commute, and it was excellent. Both the story and John Grogan's narration were terrific, and I highly recommend these CDs.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Edition of Marley and Me.......2007-10-11

I bought this edition of 'Marley and Me' to see the extra photographs of Marley and also for John Grogan's newspaper column he wrote after Marley died. I highly recommend this edition to everyone, it truly is a treasure.

Book Description

Imagine waking up every morning believing that your actions can make a significant change in the world.

For everyone who has ever yearned for a better life and a better world, Craig and Marc Kielburger share a blueprint for personal and social change that has the power to transform lives one act at a time. Through inspirational contributions from people from all walks of life and moving stories drawn from more than a decade of their experience as international change-makers, the Kielburgers reveal that a more fulfilling path is ours for the taking when we find the courage to reach out.

Me to We is an approach to life that leads us to recognize what is truly valuable, make new decisions about the way we want to live, and redefine the goals we set for ourselves and the legacy we want to leave. Above all, it creates new ways of measuring meaning, happiness, and success in our lives, and makes these elusive goals attainable at last.

After you've absorbed the ideas presented in this book, your life may not end up as you had envisioned. You may not acquire a house on a beach in the Caymans, but you may find your toes grounded in the sand. You may not see an enormous change in your social life, but in your life you may very well see enormous social change. You may not find the person of your dreams, but you will help people young and old go beyond their's. This book will open your eyes and change the way you look at life. Treat it as an invitation: an invitation to discover the power of the Me to We philosophy and to join the growing community of people around the world who are embracing this way of life.

5 out of 5 stars Me to We review.......2007-05-21

Free the Children is a fantastic organization, and reading more about it inspired me to live more of the "Me to We" philosophy. I would recommend this book to anyone.

4 out of 5 stars Do unto others as you would have them do unto you..........2007-05-07

I enjoyed this book immensely. Especially, the universal, multi-cultural worldview of the authors. Initially, I borrowed it from our library system in Maryland to see whether I wanted to add it to my collection. Then I purchased the book on amazon.com and gifted it to my friends in Eagle River, Alaska. I purchased the CD to listen to in my car. The concept of "me to we" is not new; however the book is based on the authors' experiences and successful ventures on behalf of the children of the world. As you encourage others to be less materialistic, be blessed and continue to be a blessing to others.

5 out of 5 stars If I could give it more stars I would..........2007-04-20

The Kielburgers have managed to do it yet again. This book certainly matches the quality of the others they have put out in the past. Though this book really is for everyone, it appeals to an adult population that may not have already been reached. I seldom purchase books for others and I have already purchased 2 copies for friends and plan to give even more. Though labeled as a self-help book, it is less of a self-help and more about how we can help others. It reminds us of our responsibility to others and provides inspiration to continue to good things with great love. This book is perfect for those who have traveled to third-world countries, are helping others in their own communities, are participating in service learning, and those who may need a glimpse of the world beyond their front door. This book is, hands down, my favorite book of all time and is a book that I continue to read over and over again. It is great to see the work and message of people like Joe Opatowski continued through this book! Buy it and you will not regret it!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing!.......2007-04-05

Words cannot describe the impact this book has had on my life. I highly recommend this book to everyone. Today's society is so "me" focused, we forget about everything else. After reading this book I started my own 501C3 organization. It's not everyday you read a book that reminds you why we are all here.

5 out of 5 stars ME TO WE tells exactly how and will serve as an inspirational guide especially recommended for public library collections........2007-02-09

The authors of ME TO WE are brothers who found that reaching out to others helped them be happier in their own lives: at age 12 Craig founded the international organization Free the Children, and human rights issues and work have led both to journeys around the world finding new connections. ME TO WE blends personal experiences with a philosophy geared to commitment and improving lives, offering the belief that individual action CAN make a difference in the world. ME TO WE tells exactly how and will serve as an inspirational guide especially recommended for public library collections.

Book Description

Meet Denver, a man raised under plantation-style slavery in Louisiana in the 1960s; a man who escaped, hopping a train to wander, homeless, for eighteen years on the streets of Dallas, Texas. No longer a slave, Denver's life was still hopeless-until God moved. First came a godly woman who prayed, listened, and obeyed. And then came her husband, Ron, an international arts dealer at home in a world of Armani-suited millionaires. And then they all came together.

But slavery takes many forms. Deborah discovers that she has cancer. In the face of possible death, she charges her husband to rescue Denver. Who will be saved, and who will be lost? What is the future for these unlikely three? What is God doing?

Same Kind of Different As Me is the emotional tale of their story: a telling of pain and laughter, doubt and tears, dug out between the bondages of this earth and the free possibility of heaven. No reader or listener will ever forget it.

5 out of 5 stars What a Great Read!.......2007-10-10

This book was recommended by a colleague and I could not find it here in Key West. I ordered two copies from Amazon and gave them both to friends (after reading). I was moved to tears by parts of the book. If anybody has any concerns about homeless issues, this book will renew one's faith in what can be done. It is one of the finest books on homeless issues that I have read in many years.

4 out of 5 stars Very touching.......2007-10-01

This is a very readable book. It is also extremely touching. Several times as I read,I found tears streaming down my face. It will restore your faith in mankind and that there is more to a person than meets the eye.

5 out of 5 stars A must read book.......2007-09-29

I don't have proper words to express this "amazing" book.

I can now better understand how it used to be in Slave times,
and feel a better understanding of my own faith and life after death.

I cried at moments of revealation! Would help anyone become a believer.

5 out of 5 stars This book changed my life!.......2007-09-25

It's very easy to forget that this is a true story - it is such an amazing story that it could be fiction! It's a beautiful, poignant, touching book and it changed the way I view the homeless and how I share my resources with others. LOVED IT and I've been telling everyone I know to read it too!!

Book Description

Call Me by Your Name is the story of a sudden and powerful romance that blossoms between an adolescent boy and a summer guest at his parents’ house, a cliff-side mansion on the Italian Riviera. Unprepared for the consequences of their attraction, at first each feigns indifference to the other. But during the warm, languorous summer weeks that follow, unrelenting buried currents of obsession and fear, fascination and desire, intensify their passion as they test the charged ground between them. What grows from the depths of their spirits is a romance of scarcely six weeks’ duration and an experience that marks them for a lifetime. For what the two discover on the Riviera and on a sultry evening in Rome is the one thing both already fear they may never truly find again: total intimacy.
The psychological maneuvers that accompany attraction have seldom been more shrewdly captured as in André Aciman’s frank, unsentimental, heartrending elegy to human passion. Call Me by Your Name is clear-eyed, bare-knuckled, and ultimately unforgettable.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Tremendous depth, and lovingly told.......2007-10-18

You know, I could go on and on about the beautiful poetry of the language and the painful yearning, steeped in truth, that resonates with memories that we all have buried deep within our psyche, but dozens of other reviewers have already said much the same thing and in better words than I could. Instead, I'd like to address my review to the fellow who gave up on page 34, disgustedly tossed it into the garbage and proceeded to slap the book with a one-star review. Okay, okay. I'll grant you it is slow out of the starting gate, but guess what? It's building up to something, and the restraint Andre Aciman puts into the language it a direct reflection of the tremendous restraint Elio and Oliver exhibit toward each other. The payoff comes in the second section, and it is very rewarding. If the one-star reviewer had just stuck it out, he may have been pleasantly surprised. On second thought, maybe not. Unfortunately he probably still would have been bored by this low-key, reflective, nostalgic confession. Modern literature has evolved (or de-evolved?) to the point where to be a best-seller, a book must hook you from the first line, take you on a roller-coaster ride, and never let up until the last sentence. It has sadly created a whole generation of A.D.D. readers who can't appreciate a book that takes its time to unfold, and let the reader really get inside a character and know him. "Call Me by Your Name" is not an easy read. It takes some effort, but things in life that are hard to do are often the most rewarding.

4 out of 5 stars passionate..........2007-10-09

i was surprised by a lot of the negative reviews this book got, i thought it was rich and passionate and as the main character, Elio, described each situation or interaction you could feel what he was feeling or even see what he was seeing...the scenes, settings, the characters...his life...it was all so very well put together and drawn out...his love for Oliver was overwhelming, to say the least...

5 out of 5 stars Call This Novel Great! .......2007-09-17

Rather than shelving a large library of used books in my apartment, I keep a small collection of my favorite books . . . the ones I know that I want to read again and again. "Call Me by Your Name" is now in my small collection with "Middlemarch," "Giovanni's Room," "Gut Symmetries," "At Swim,Two Boys," and others.

If literature is an art that can touch one's soul, then I would say that Aciman's novel is one that thrust a sword into the most tender chamber of my heart and tore open old wounds. The effect was sweet and deeply painful, but after the tears it felt like an awakening. This book is rare and very beautiful.

5 out of 5 stars A Heartfelt and Melancholy Remembrance.......2007-09-16

I'm first to admit that the first 75 pages were challenging...I was losing interest, but so very happy I persisted. (Partially due to the fact that I only brought one book for the plane ride.)

Perhaps part of the difficulty for me was that much of the internal narrative resonated to deeply. It came very close to what I'd imagine the dialogue might have been in my head had this story been my own.

What a beautiful novel! I hope others invest the time to read this ruminative and melancholy but ultimately noble story.

5 out of 5 stars Gripping story.......2007-09-12

Aciman writes a truly gripping and emotionally charged story. I have gone on to read his `Out of Egypt' which is, again, beautiful writing.

David Sedaris became a star autobiographer on public radio, onstage in New York, and on bestseller lists, mostly on the strength of "SantaLand Diaries," a scathing, hilarious account of his stint as a Christmas elf at Macy's. (It's in two separate collections, both worth owning, Barrel Fever and the Christmas-themed Holidays on Ice.) Sedaris's caustic gift has not deserted him in his fourth book, which mines poignant comedy from his peculiar childhood in North Carolina, his bizarre career path, and his move with his lover to France. Though his anarchic inclination to digress is his glory, Sedaris does have a theme in these reminiscences: the inability of humans to communicate. The title is his rendition in transliterated English of how he and his fellow students of French in Paris mangle the Gallic language. In the essay "Jesus Shaves," he and his classmates from many nations try to convey the concept of Easter to a Moroccan Muslim. "It is a party for the little boy of God," says one. "Then he be die one day on two... morsels of... lumber," says another. Sedaris muses on the disputes between his Protestant mother and his father, a Greek Orthodox guy whose Easter fell on a different day. Other essays explicate his deep kinship with his eccentric mom and absurd alienation from his IBM-exec dad: "To me, the greatest mystery of science continues to be that a man could father six children who shared absolutely none of his interests."

Every glimpse we get of Sedaris's family and acquaintances delivers laughs and insights. He thwarts his North Carolina speech therapist ("for whom the word pen had two syllables") by cleverly avoiding all words with s sounds, which reveal the lisp she sought to correct. His midget guitar teacher, Mister Mancini, is unaware that Sedaris doesn't share his obsession with breasts, and sings "Light My Fire" all wrong--"as if he were a Webelo scout demanding a match." As a remarkably unqualified teacher at the Art Institute of Chicago, Sedaris had his class watch soap operas and assign "guessays" on what would happen in the next day's episode.

It all adds up to the most distinctively skewed autobiography since Spalding Gray's Swimming to Cambodia. The only possible reason not to read this book is if you'd rather hear the author's intrinsically funny speaking voice narrating his story. Amazon.com Audiobook Review

"It's a pretty grim world when I can't even feel superior to a toddler." Welcome to the curious mind of David Sedaris, where dogs outrank children, guitars have breasts, and French toddlers unmask the inadequacies of the American male. Sedaris inhabits this world as a misanthrope chronicling all things petty and small. In Me Talk Pretty One Day Sedaris is as determined as ever to be nobody's hero--he never triumphs, he never conquers--and somehow, with each failure, he inadvertently becomes everybody's favorite underdog. The world's most eloquent malcontent, Sedaris has turned self-deprecation into a celebrated art form--one that is perhaps best experienced in audio. "Go Carolina," his account of "the first battle of my war against the letter s" is particularly poignant. Unable to disguise the lisp that has become his trademark, Sedaris highlights (to hilarious extent) the frustration of reading "childish s-laden texts recounting the adventures of seals or settlers named Sassy or Samuel." Including 23 of the book version's 28 stories, two live performances complete with involuntary laughter, and an uncannily accurate Billie Holiday impersonation, the audio is more than a companion to the text; it stands alone as a performance piece--only without the sock monkeys. Book Description

Other essays explicate his deep kinship with his eccentric mom and absurd alienation from his IBM-exec dad: "To me, the greatest mystery of science continues to be that a man could father six children who shared absolutely none of his interests." Sedaris is hilarious, and this is his best book. The "Rooster" chapter is so funny that I couldn't read it out loud to my husband because I was almost choking from laughing so hard.

...Need I say more? He is hilarious. I have many books from him and this is really funny.

1 out of 5 stars WHAT A MISNOMER FOR A TITLE.......2007-09-04

Let me start by saying I am a bibliophile and will sometimes buy a book just for the look of it. I ended up throwing the book away rather than offer it to any one else. If I could have given this book something less than one star I would have given it a negative fifteen (-15). I found this book gross, crass and inappropriate. I've read books with strong language in them, but never like this one that has filthy language just for the sake of using filthy language. I wouldn't have this book in my home and am sorry that I read the whole thing, but it was a private book club choice. As it turned out no one else finished reading it. DON'T BUY, READ or OWN THIS BOOK!

3 out of 5 stars Always Enjoyable.......2007-08-30

Good book. Not laugh-out-loud funny, but it is full of the kind of humor you would expect from Sedaris. Well worth the price and effort.

I love this book. My copy is completely worn out - I rarely re-read a book, but I did this one. I forced it on all my friends. Very sick and hilarious!

5 out of 5 stars Very depressing.......2007-10-16

This book resonated so strongly and was the most informative of any I have read (and ive read them all), but it lacked all hope. You really have to personally have experienced all the situations described to understand how words like "manipulative" and the characterization of bp in general would impact someone struggling so hard to make sense of irrational behaviors that in fact do seem to conform to such motives. I felt so demeaned and hopeless, completely objectified. It was overwhelming.

1 out of 5 stars Chapter 1.......2007-09-26

I don't know if this book will be any help to you but it was NOT to me...

My wife only read the 1st chapter, "I HATE YOU..." and then she stopped...

I think she found her answer :)

4 out of 5 stars Great Insightful Book.......2007-08-29

This book was received in the requested time frame. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to get this book, read it, review it and tell others what I discovered.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Read.......2007-08-28

I wish I had known about this book years ago. Knowing how to put up boundaries with a BPD is very valuable. It is right on target.

4 out of 5 stars I Hate you, Don't Leave Me.......2007-06-10

When I first read this book, I had to stop after each chapter..sometimes after each paragraph to cry. At last, there were people who understood and felt what I had been going through my whole life. It was such a relief. The only down side is that the book is a bit dated.

After a few weeks, I got up the courage to show the book to my husband and suggest that he read it. After all, I'm the one with BPD. When I showed him the book, he said, "Oh, our marriage therapist gave me this book to help me understand you better." My only regret is that I didn't learn about this book sooner.

This book is, in a word, ABSOLUTELY GREAT!!! SO BUY IT NOW!! It's written by a woman who obviously loves fellatio to the bottom of her soul, and who has developed superlative and awesome technique -- making her a true Grand Master of Fellatio!! Truly mind blowing techniques to add to your oral repretoire! In terms of substantive tips, it beats other books on this subject hands down. It is shorn of nonessential details and distills to essence the art of great fellatio -- and thus gets straight to the point. It makes us want to write a similar book on mind blowing cunnilingus -- so let's find a publisher.

4 out of 5 stars Worth the Time.......2006-06-06

I found this read to be somewhat informative prose wise, entertaining & very informative visually. Ms Taylor does a great job of relaxing the reader, let's face it, many women find giving oral sex repulsive. I know because I do sexual counseling. Having said that, I found a lot of her info a tad boring or repetitive, probably because I have read "Blowing Him Away", "Going Down","The Ultimate Guide To Fellatio" etc. etc.
The fun title definitely caught my eye, & if you are a novice, married 20 years or just plain curious, this is a MUST read! Every woman having sex with a man should know this info & be comfortable performing fellatio, which can be VERY sexually exciting for women!
Yes ladies, you can get extremely aroused with the right mindset & knowledge. This is where I think Ms. Taylor's book has the most importance. She delves into:
1)mental preparation
2)making it fun ie; poprocks
3)giving some tasteful (no pun intended) photos on how to achieve it all, mentally & physically.
Women are, for the most part, taught, "only bad girls do that" or they hear how awful it is from their peers or sisters. We are given thousands of subliminal messages that sex is
a) dirty, especially penises (how many penises do you see in R rated movies?)
b) messy,
c) inconvenient, but most of all....
d) a natural thing. Therefore we don't feel it necessary to read a book on sex, I mean, It's "natural" right? GO READ THIS BOOK & learn about good sex. Let me end by adding, one of the later photos shows the woman lying down, head back & the penis entering from above (deep throating). This excellent technique originated from Linda Lovelace & no,not all women who go down, deep throat, you do what is comfortable but don't limit yourself either. Regarding swallowing...99% of the time he won't even know whether you did or didn't, he is too absorbed into the wonderful orgasm you have given him (keep a towel handy). MY fun tip of the day, (I can't recall if this was in the book) get a hot cup of tea or coffee, swish it in your mouth a few seconds & drive him crazy, several times. Have fun ladies, I mean that....& you will after reading this book.

5 out of 5 stars Sure, it's giving! But equality comes elsewhere!.......2005-11-16

I had already reviewed a few books on fellatio - but the cute title of this text really caught my eye. "You Want Me To Do What?" It's not how I feel. But in these "I'll-do-you-if-you-do-me" times, the idea of giving oral sex might seem to be a little one-sided. However, when one really gets deeper into it (or takes it a little deeper), one soon discovers that there are a lot of other satisfactions to be had from performing this most loving of acts, (mainly emotional).

The book follows a very logical progression, starting off first with mental preparation ("Why do this?"), some definitions (like the "gag reflex"), and a recap of male anatomy (the most useful landmark being what the author calls the "Taylor Spot," after herself, which is the area on the underside of his organ, just below the head, which is where a man is most sensitive).

[...] On that score, the large page size and simple layout does give it some resemblance to a bound college thesis. This just means, unfortunately, that the text is too large to carry around in your purse - in case you forget what you're supposed to do. But there's another reason you might not want to read this book out in public - and that's because of the pictures.

Compared to the other works I've read, the most refreshing - and titillating -- aspect of this book is the fact that it is replete with PHOTOS! The images are strictly black & white and almost clinical in their matter-of-fact presentation. But they are certainly much more effective in communicating exactly what it is one is supposed to do. There's an erect phallus in about 90% of the photos (or a dildo that looks just like one) that is either being licked, kissed, and sucked, and then massaged by hands and between breasts! There's never more than at most an inch of penetration, so the photos are just a tease. But for those of you more apprehensive, seeing another woman's lips lovingly caressing and encircling the tip of a man's tool can certainly be very reassuring.

The author spends a fair amount of time sharing some external techniques, which she likes to give cute names. "Grooving," "The No Handed Catch," "Teasing the Taylor Spot," "Peek-a-Boo," and "Rippling," to name just the biggies.

As a hint for greater penetration, the author suggests letting him slide along the roof of your mouth as he goes deeper which will help to avoid the gag reflex. For fun, there's a humorous photo where the head - and the tongue beneath it - are both completely covered with Pop Rocks (carbonated candy) which is the author's favorite treat. There's even an illustrated section on how to use your mouth - to fit him with a condom (which is probably a good skill to know if I should ever decide to become a prostitute!).

In most of the photos, the woman's face is either upright (taking it from the front), or horizontal (coming down at it from above). The most daring view comes towards the book's end - when her face is leaning back - and her subject is approaching from above and behind her. This posture positions her mouth and throat more in a line, and the technique she's demonstrating, of course - is deep throating!

There are other postures in which to do this, but this is the only one featured in this book. Even so, I think many women might still find this dramatization to be very helpful. What's important here to understand is that the mouth and throat are normally at right angles to each other. In this position, the appendage can't go any further than the back of the mouth. Ladies, if you don't lay your head back - trying to take him any deeper will only make you choke! Trust me!

The section on swallowing is woefully brief. Taylor basically leaves it up to each woman to decide for herself what to do! As an alternative, she suggests having him finish across your face (which is shown in an accompanying photo). I personally found the thought of this to be hugely degrading. It's also missing out on a great emotional opportunity. Ask any man and he'll tell you that nothing says "I love you" more than swallowing - while not doing so, unfortunately, probably says just the opposite!

One of the biggest advantages of oral sex, which the author just touches upon, is its convenience. When women always insist upon having an orgasm every time he does (as female equality has told us we should), then sex, unfortunately, can sometimes loose its spontaneity. For me, a better type of equality for women (than tit-for-tat orgasms) would be to allow ourselves to be a little bisexual instead! Speaking from experience, nothing is more emotionally and physically enthralling - than to spend some time with another woman! It is, of course - why men love us so much!

To conclude, if you're looking for a light-hearted and informative guide to performing oral sex on your man, Taylor's "You Want Me To Do What?" might really hit the spot - without getting you all choked up! I highly recommend it!

3 out of 5 stars Great Information, Poor Presentation........2005-06-30

This book was written and published by Taylor. Mind you the woman knows a great deal about fellatio and the book is highly informative if you can get past the fact that this book lacks a certain amount of eye candy I've become accustomed to. How do I begin: the cover, the numerous photos that are far from publishing quality, the layout of the book, and then there is the writing. All of which is distracting to a very informative book on one of my favorite acts.

Taylor covers several wonderful things in this book but I was distracted by the delivery. Are looks important? When it comes to a book, it is to me. The message is good but if I can't concentrate due to the poor quality of the book what's the point? I just think this book had so much potential.

All that said, there is great stuff in this book that is good. My favorite is putting a condom on with just my mouth. Taylor pretty much covers everything from deep throating to popping candy all with her own brand of wit and slang. It's a great education but the delivery could use some work.

I gave this book three stars for the information it contains but couldn't give it any more.

4 out of 5 stars a Great Gift.......2005-04-07

This book makes a lovely gift for the young newlyweds, at least the groom will thank you! my sweet sexy husband, Norman, bought several copies of this, one for us, and a few to give away.

Grandma was over the other day, and was flipping through it, as it sat on the coffee table - my oh my - she was surprised! you may want to keep it in a safe hiding place, especially if you have kids in the house, or a mother comming over.

over all, it's a good one. Norman likes to think he's "teaching" me things, but, i knew all the techniques long ago - but he's sweet.

Norm asked Grandma what she thought, after she set it down, she said "aint' nothing new under the sun, but it's nice to see the pictures."

5 out of 5 stars A Push to a Certain Path at a Certain Time...to Reach Our Certain Purpose.......2007-07-22

In "A Hand to Guide Me," American film star and legend, Denzel Washington, sets out shine a light on the 100 year old Boy's & Girl's Clubs of America, an organization of 3,700 serving more than 4.4 million children in all 50 states. Washington's eventual success can be traced directly to the Boys Club in his home town, Mt. Vernon, New York. It was there, by necessity, that he learned purpose, consequences, and how to be a man.

"A Hand to Guide Me" is a collection of short stories by ordinary people from ordinary beginnings, accomplishing extraordinary things. Six dozen people from diverse backgrounds share their memories about role models, mentors and positive influences in their lives. Some are household names like coach John Wooden, director John Singleton, author Toni Morrison, General Wesley Clark and former President Jimmy Carter. Many are alumni of Girls and Boys Clubs of America, while others have taken on leadership roles in these clubs. And some were asked to contribute because there was something to learn from their voice. These are very readable stories ranging in length from two to four pages.

All of the contributors have outgrown a hardship or two to reach a significant level of success and can draw a line from their success to some rock solid foundational experience - sometimes it is a parent, a coach, a neighbor or the inspiration derived from a tragic event.

Washington's resonant message is that we are all extraordinary in our own way but we don't go it alone. There are people on whose shoulders we stand and we, in turn, can provide a shoulder for others.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of America are the center of everything for many kids today, providing a shoulder for millions of kids and making a vital contribution to the future of our society. They are a breeding ground for hope, purpose, and direction - where many have learned strength, confidence, and the freedom to dream...to think big.

4 out of 5 stars Diverse Reflections of Role Models.......2007-06-15

Denzel Washington uses his star power to assemble personal recollections from assorted successful folks (primarily alumnae of the Boys and Girls Clubs Organizations) about the people who shaped THEIR lives as youngsters.

Some of the stories are more interesting and inspiring than others, and I couldn't help but wonder if this volume couldn't have benefitted from more cohesive editing. But the bottom line is that these are positive and uplifting pages that remind us "if you want to change history, start by changing the life of a child."

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful and inspiring read.......2007-04-10

Denzel Washington has captured the most interesting and inspiring series of short stories and memories I have read in a long time. The people on these pages have very compelling stories and are well written.

5 out of 5 stars Useful in and out of the classroom.......2007-04-06

I bought this book to use in the classroom. I teach high school students and I think its really important that students these days read about people who made it in life and have a good message to give to the students. In this book there are so many positive stories and very short stories that students will not get bored.

Washington really pulled it off by making the book and the stories in it the star. One can look at the cover of the book and think that maybe its all about Washington but its not. There are stories from Bill Clinton to Jimmy Carter. It's really a fantastic read and I think it has helped many of my young male students who have been searching for a role model.

Excellent book! I have been taking classes online and this book has kept me interested in real estate. It gives you plenty of tips on how to gain the edge in real estate.

4 out of 5 stars Must have for new agents.......2007-06-14

If you are new to real estate, this is a must read... I still have mine 3 years later and although I haven't gone back to read it again - I won't get rid of it!

5 out of 5 stars Great for a new agent!.......2007-06-12

Not knowing what to expect as a brand new agent, I found this book to be a really excellent training resource. It was a great way to get a glimpse of what to do and not to do. I highly recommend it! Also, it's a very easy read.
