Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

4 out of 5 stars Slow Start, But Worth It!.......2007-05-18

Like other reviewers, I think this is a great story. There are multiple levels to the plot--a murder mystery, a run at a basketball championship, a school project mirroring real life, a friendship tested. Even with all these elements working together, the story isn't convoluted. The start of the story, though, does drag a bit, especially compared to the fast pace of the rest of the novel. Overall a great read, though--another great one by this author!--and one that boys and girls alike would enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars This Author Deserves More Recognition.......2006-04-20

I read this book based on a student recommendation. What a welcome surprise. This author deserves much more recognition for her talent. I look at and read Young Adult books all the time, but I knew nothing of this book.

The Perfect Shot is a wonderful look at teen life and the struggles human beings go through when dealing with a loss. This book is also an experienced look at the struggles young adults go through when trying to figure out what their place is in this world.

The book does all of the above and accelerates the plot with a suspenseful ending that will leave the reader wanting to read whatever this author produces.

This book is a gem of a Young Adult book. This is a definite must-read.

I am now going to backtrack and read this author's other books, one of which is an Edgar Award winner.

I couldnt put this book down, but at some parts i had to, this story is very intense and that made it all the more lovely.

4 out of 5 stars National Geographic quality. . .beautiful enough to inspire!.......2007-06-24

"The Photographer's Guide to Canyon Country by John Annerino. From the author of Hiking the Grand Canyon, 3rd edition, (Sierra Club Books), offers a similarly intense focus. The introduction leads from Indians as the "first photographers" through pioneer photographers to how present-day photographers can define their goals and match them to modern techniques and equipment. The book hews to a no-nonsense formula, with chapters devoted to Mesa Verde, Zion, Canyonlands, Arches and five other national parklands. Annerino gives an overview of each, directions and contact information, along with tips for photographing the best sights and vistas. The text design is unremarkable and even slightly clunky, but the photos are National Geographic quality in both technique and printing -- beautiful enough to either inspire or intimidate the reader."

I am looking forward to using this guide in our trip to Arches next year. The book came as advertised and on a timely basis. Good service.

2 out of 5 stars Less snobbery, more practical advice please.......2006-11-10

I bought two books for my trip to southern Utah. I read this one first and found it lacking. The author spends too much time decrying what he calls "photocopying," which is shooting iconic scenes that have already been done to death. Now I agree in principle that one should find their own interpretation of a scene and not look for Muench's tripod holes. But in reality, most amateur photogs are looking for the "trophy shots" that are icons. I don't need a lecture, just tell me how to get there and what time of day the light is good. That's all I ask from this kind of book.

5 out of 5 stars Shortcut.......2007-08-11

This book was amazingly specific in directions of how to best view an incredible scenery. It was great more for its direction of where to go, park, or stand than the photography tips. The author gave great detail such as tips for how to find the best parking lots, how to avoid the tourist packed spots, and how to find unmarked trails to find fantastic angles in isolation. We used it as our primary guide for three days down the coast and really loved it. Note that the order of the book is generally north to south.

4 out of 5 stars Photo vacation.......2007-06-11

Covers alot of ground and offers more photo op suggestions than one could ever hope to take in one visit. Used it extensively to plan a photography vacation on Highway 101.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource.......2007-05-07

Having this along with my on my recent trip up the Oregon Coast was absolutely invaluable. It helped me choose which turnouts to take and which to bypass. I loved the included suggestions of what to do according to the weather, since several of my days were overcast and drizzle, rendering some of the views drab or nonexistant. I wish there were more books like this available for everywhere I want to go!

5 out of 5 stars A must buy if you plan to visit Oregon.......2007-04-22

I am what most people consider an advanced amateur photographer. Last week I went down to Portalnd on Business and used David's book as my guide on a little detour I took on the coast.

I had only one day to drive through the coast. The book was extremely valuable in helping prioritize where to go, and save time by driving right to the good spots. Thanks to this book I was able to take amazing pictures in Cannon Beach and other places.

Absolutely recommended for anyone visiting Oregon, even if you are not a photographer, this book is much better than any tourism guide I have seen.

I am from New England and have Dave Middleton's books for Vermont & Maine. They have provided me with wonderful opportunities for photography. Having never been to Oregon I'm sure after reading this book that my up coming trip will be that much more successful from having read this book. It was exactly what I was looking for to plan a photography trip to Oregon which included the Oregon coast.

We followed his book to the letter and a great book with valuable infomation. Would recommend this book for anyone traveling to Maine and who likes Lighthouses. Wonderful and helpful tips.

4 out of 5 stars Good guidebook.......2005-09-07

This is a good guidebook. It has enough detail/description to allow one to rationally select "likely sites" without being overpowering. However, there are an number of annoying editing errors present. (For example, every time the text reads "this place is 0.05 mile beyond that place", what's really meant is "0.5 mile". This is wrong in every place it's mentioned!)

5 out of 5 stars You'll come home with prize winning photos!.......2004-05-30

David Middleton and Bruce Morrison have created a very insightful guide to coastal Maine photographic "hot spots". I am a professional photographer based in Maine, and while I am quite familiar with most of the places mentioned in this book I was pleasantly surprised to find out about others I had overlooked or was not aware of. (I also have a few secret spots of my own that did not crop up in the book..thankfully... but that's what makes this fun - a guidebook is best put to use as a springboard for further exploration.)

Photographers who live in Maine or are planning to visit coastal Maine will find much to enjoy here. You couldn't ask for a better resource. Even non-photographer types would do well to mine the gems of this book for general sightseeing and hiking tips.
Middleton and Morrison put you smack dab in the middle of great photo opportunities. A bit of a warning here: after you get a copy of this book you will feel a sudden and intense urge to be out on the Maine coast with your camera.

PS - Middleton's guide to Vermont photo sites is excellent as well.

Book Description

This latest addition to the Photographer's Guide series is the first how-to/where-to guide to photographing more than 100 sites spanning the entire coast of California.

The California coast is arguably one of the most dramatic meetings of sea and land in the world. From the rugged cliffs of Big Sur to intimate tide pools filled with colorful starfish and anemones, the variety of subjects is endless and sometimes overwhelming.

Author Douglas Steakley has traveled the entire length of the California coast, from the northernmost reaches of the state to the Mexican border, to find the best spots to take the best shots. Lively descriptions of each location are accompanied by directions and detailed maps, photographic instruction on technique, the best time of day, best time of year, and, in some cases, best tidal positioning to take a particular shot. Also included are appendices detailing the author's favorite places to photograph. This is a year-round guide for both amateur and professional photographers, as well as tourists looking to capture perfect vacation shots. Full-color throughout, 5 maps.

2 out of 5 stars Not Very Good.......2007-03-23

This book may be of used for someone out of State, but only in a very limited way. The sites mentioned are few and discussions are shallow with no attempt to provide best times, equipment, conditions, what to look for, etc... As an example, the Point Reyes area is given very superficial treatment and only a handful of sites is discussed ignoring most of Tomales Bay, trails, lagoons, marshes, etc... The author needs to look at Laurent Martres 3-volume guide to photographing the southwest to see how it should be done.

4 out of 5 stars A good summary but lacks needed detail.......2006-06-30

This book is very ambitious as it attempts to be a photography guide for the entire California coast. That is a lot of ground to cover in only 96 pages. As a result much of the coverage is very terse. I found this book to be useful as a guide to give me an overview of what can be seen in a given area. Given that overview I could then use other materials (other guidebooks and the Internet) to obtain the needed details about the specific area. I was disappointed with the lack of photographs. I wanted to see at least one photograph of each area, but that is hard to do when 2-3 areas may be described on a single page. The shooting advice isn't given too often and is very terse when given. In summary, this book works great if you are looking for an overview of what you can see/photograph along the California coast. It falls short if you want good details and shooting advice for a specific area.

4 out of 5 stars Picture-taking in Vermont.......2007-10-14

We recently returned from a week in Vermont. Unfortunately, the weather was variable, but we did manage
to visit a number of locations suggested by David Middleton in his "Photographers Guide to Vermont". The
book was well-written and very helpful. The images included were wonderful. David's pro tips and side
trip suggestions added another dimension to our trip. The book was very readable with some touches of
humor.. We look forward to our next trip to Vermont, where this book will be one of
the first things we pack. We are members of a competitive camera club, always on the lookout for great picture locations. It was almost like having our own guide. Thanks, David.

4 out of 5 stars Handy Companion.......2006-12-17

The book served as a useful companion on my trip to Vermont in October 2006.
It helped me do the groundwork which turned out be a great time saver .
It seems that the book needs editing as some of the landmarks appear to have changed.I would like more details to help locate Farms around Woodstock which is one of the prime reasons photographers travel to Vermont.
Another thing which adds to the difficulty is that you are mostly driving on back roads which are not be very clearly marked .

Say you decide to do photography in Vermont and you dont know where to start. Dont look furthur. This books will save you tons of time. I used this book to chart my 6 day trip. It worked out great and I am so happy that such a book exists. The book can help you to plan your entire trip. The only think I found was it dint have a lot of hidden road information. If the author can add that it would be great. I had to pick that up from the Vermon Fall Forums on the internet. I got the other book describing Maine and now I am planning to get the oregon one. I hope the author will have one out for Alaska and other states.

5 out of 5 stars This is a great book.......2004-01-02

If you enjoy photography, especially in Vermont, then this is the book for you. I have enjoyed Mr. Middleton's photographs in Vermont Life and found the photos in this book to be even more fantastic. Vermont is a beautiful place and this book will tell you the best spots and the perfect times in which to photograph there. If you need further inspiration take a look at the authors Nature of Vermont, which is an exceptional book as well.

5 out of 5 stars An outstandingly useful book........2007-07-23

As a photographer who has lived in the Puget Sound region for over 40 years I was astounded by the numerous locales detailed by Mr Barbee that I have not(yet)visited. I found his directions and suggestions to be clear and concise and very user friendly. I particularly enjoyed Mr Barbee's unpretentious and conversational style of writing sprinkled with subtle humor.

I am a bit confused by "BookGeeks" negative comments. The purpose of this book is primarily to detail many of the exceptional photographic opportunities in the Puget Sound area. Certainly, for me, that task is well accomplished. In addition, Mr Barbee has included a substantial amount of very useful suggestions regarding the more technical and practical aspects of photography both in general as well as locale specific. I would also disagree regarding the quality of the photography in the book. Admittedly this is not a "picture" book and so does not highlight Mr Barbee's considerable photographic talents and yet I found many of the images to be exceptional and inspirational.

If one is looking for a "how to" book of photography there are many other books out there that will do the task. On the other hand, if one's plans include photography in the Puget Sound area this is the book to get.

5 out of 5 stars Best "get out there and do it" book for photography in the PNW.......2007-07-12

I have to respectfully disagree with BookGeek.

Before a two week vacation/photo trip to Seattle and the Olympic Peninsula I bought about 10 books through Amazon. Several had awesome photos (like Art Wolfe's book), but none gave much detail on exactly where a given photo was taken.

That's the purpose of this book, on the other hand. I felt (as I often have in real life) I had met a fellow photographer that was happy to dole out his local experience. My son and I spent several days on the Olympic Peninsula, and because of the book visited several places we otherwise wouldn't have - with great results (Rialto Beach and Sol Jardin for example).

I'm already on experienced photographer, and thus don't really need the input on wide vs telephoto, but I don't see anything wrong with his recommendations.

In summary, I think the book is great, and as an owner of probably 100 photo related books, this one stands out in practicality for what I like to do.

    1 out of 5 stars Keep looking..........2007-07-05

I pre-ordered this book based on the title and description... I should have waited until my local book store had it so I could take a look at it first.

This book is not worth the money. The description is very deceptive. The photos inside are OK and many of the locations covered do not include a sample photo. In addition the sub-title "... and How to Take Them" is deceptive. The How To is limited to things like... wide angle lense, or early in the morning, many of the targets are not even defined let alone some tips on photographing.

For a photography book I give this 0 (zero) stars.
For a picture book with good examples I give it 1 (one) star.
For a book that gives you good locations for taking pictures 3 (three) stars)

Overall this book hardly deserves 1 (one) star, however it does have some content that is interesting.

Sorry for the harsh review but this book is not worth the money or time.

5 out of 5 stars Know exactly where to place your shot.......2007-10-18

I have used this book on helping 1st time hunters on elk, and bison make the shot that will cleanly take the animal. It shows both external and internal views so that you can understand why and where to place your shot. A must have for new and old hunters that want that one shot one kill record.

    5 out of 5 stars Must Read.......2007-01-16

For anybody who is presently hunting big game and all those who are thinking about it should make this book a must read. It really helps you to understand the anatomy of the animals you are hunting and prepares you to make more of your shots Kill Shots. Excellent reading.

    5 out of 5 stars Indispensable.......2004-11-05

If you are a hunter, you must have this book. Although not cheap, it is worth every penny. The graphics alone are worth the price of admission. Each chapter includes numerous photographs, including photographs of animals in the positions hunters are most likely to see them. Graphic overlays showing the skeletal structure and location of brain, heart and lungs are then shown, with dots showing correct shot placement. Understanding precisely where to place your shot, and most importantly, how point of aim changes depending on the angle at which you are viewing your quarry (for example, depending upon whether you are hunting from a tree stand or are level with the animal) is absolutely essential.

But this book doesn't end with fancy graphics. Each species is covered in detail, with discussions of how the animal is hunted, the best equipment for the hunt, and Boddington's personal experiences hunting that animal.

This book is an important reference work. It is also extremely readable for the pure enjoyment of General Boddington's stories. All hunters can learn from this book.
