Marketing wiz Jay Abraham provides some powerful strategies for boosting your career or business in Getting Everything You Can Out of All You've Got. Abraham believes that anyone can advance in life by tapping into hidden assets and developing the right mindset. He writes, "You are surrounded by simple, obvious solutions that can dramatically increase your income, power, influence and success. The problem is, you just don't see them." Over the course of 21 chapters, he shows how to get ahead by treating bosses and clients as valued friends; find better and more exciting ways of doing things; develop "unique selling propositions"; persuade people to follow your lead; master the art of selling on the telephone; craft a formal referral system; sell on the Internet; and forge strong, established business relationships. Abraham's central theme is that everyone is in sales. In almost any profession, people must be skilled at selling themselves and their ideas, not just their company's product or service. Engagingly written, the book features more than 200 examples of people and companies who have successfully used these techniques, from Bill Gates and Dennis Rodman to Sharper Image and Federal Express. --Dan Ring

5 out of 5 stars Mind Blowing!.......2007-09-26

This book is the best marketing book I've read so far. I was amazed at the simple, yet powerful concepts that Jay laid out in the book, as well as some of the very sophisticated, and lucrative deals that he was able to put together in his case studies in the book.

This guy is the best... Hands down.

4 out of 5 stars Crash Course in Effective Marketing.......2007-09-23

Like Dan Kennedy's No B.S. Direct Marketing: The Ultimate, No Holds Barred, Kick Butt, Take No Prisoners Direct Marketing for Non-direct Marketing Businesses (No B.S.), this book by Jay Abraham is a primer containing practical steps to take your business where you want to go with it. Implementing just one of the steps will more than pay for your investment in the book. If you like what you read, then I highly recommend picking up a copy of Money-making Secrets of Marketing Genius Jay Abraham and Other Marketing Wizards (A No-Nonsense Guide to Great Wealth and a Personal Fortune) a.k.a. the Mr. X Book. If you only want to get one Abraham book, pick the Mr. X Book over this one. However, both are good. The Mr. X Book is simply better because it contains so much more information that you can use in your business.

5 out of 5 stars Scary good - you'll never look at business the same way again.......2007-08-18

This book is so good it's scary. It's scary to think about how powerful the principles are that Jay shares. It's also scary to think...what if I had gone through life and never been exposed to this?

I've read alot of business books. By Trump, Richard Branson, Robert Allen, Al Ries, Seth Godin, etc. They give you answers and little pieces of the puzzle.

They'll talk about customer service or "permission marketing" or another "hot strategy". Jay's material just obliterates everything else out there, he's not just giving you a 1/4 of the answer or an 1/8, he's giving you the whole answer. Answers that other people would charge thousands of dollars for in seminars, tens of thousands of dollars.

I'm a big fan of Jay. I have this book, many of his seminar tapes, Mastermind, PEQ, Strategy Summit. And many other reports and interviews.

The techniques and strategies he gives you are very, very powerful and profound. But there's so much hidden value in studying his material and really dissecting and analyzing what he's doing.

He's sold tens of millions of dollars worth of his own products and seminars. He sells out $15,000 seminars. Most people struggle to earn $200 or $300 an hour for consulting, how does Jay get $5,000? Why is it so powerful? Where does he get his answers from? I'd rip apart every word and every sentence he shares.

I'd study..

-His own positioning and selling strategies. His writing style is to die for. It'd serve as an incredible model/template if you write a newsletter, ezine, etc. Jay pounds into your head, "make everything have to perform", and obviously he does it with his writing.

-It amazes me that everyone wants to make money, we live in a very competitive world, and yet some of the answers Jay gives are so simple, why does everyone miss them?

For example, most people's advertising budget has no correlation to what a customer is worth. Jay focuses on marginal net worth. Most people think they're selling a drill, Jay focuses on the hole. Most people fall in love with the wrong thing (paraphrasing Jay). They want to be the biggest, the best, the fastest growing. They fall in love with the medium or the technology. It's trite, but Jay focuses on falling in love with the customer.

A huge error people make in business is thinking that the deeper they go in whatever they're doing (allocating a budget, selling, advertising, lead generating) the better they'll become. But you'll never come up with the right answers if you focus on the wrong thing. If you keep selling a drill a 100 times, it won't turn into a hole. Most people in business see alot of activity, Jay sees myopia, limited thinking and limited understanding (thus Jay's 3-D glasses).

-Lastly, Jay is brilliant at reducing and simplifying everything down to a core driving principle. Figuring out what makes something work. It's such an overlooked skill for entrepreneur and people in business.

A direct quote from Jay (from one of his tapes)

"The clearer your understanding, the simpler and the more reduced your awareness, of what makes something work, the more powerful it normally becomes."

That's a huge skill to develop. Forget about all this other stuff out there. Jumping on the latest fad, or tweaking something.

There's also alot of other lateral applications that I wonder about. He makes it look so easy. What would be the Jay equivilant in investing or real estate investing?

A mind blowing book.

5 out of 5 stars The Magic of Jay Abraham for the Price of a Pizza.......2007-08-18

Getting Everything You Can Out of All You've Got is Jay's only "real" published book, but it represents the summary of his collective experience and wisdom from decades of helping businesses optimize their own businesses.

Sure, you could hire Jay personally and pay thousands of dollars, and for many of you reading this, that may be the best move you ever made for your business.

But, for just a few dollars you can put Jay's magic to work immediately.

Yes, it is magic because he helps you create more money from the same assets you already have.

I sincerely believe you could take one or two ideas in this book and revolutionize your existing business.

Jay has a unique way of viewing the world...it's like he has the only pair of 3D glasses. For a glimpse into "Jay's World", get this book!

4 out of 5 stars Maybe those were different times.......2007-06-08

The book is good, with a lot of useful strategis, but it doesn't live up to buzz Jay Abraham creates for himself.

I guess that either the book is dated or Mr. Abraham has sandbaged information to sell his more profitable products.

Book Description

This guide to proper behavior at the dinner table provides an introduction to etiquette for kids and a refresher in manners for adults. Offering three tips for each letter of the alphabet, kids are asked to examine the factors that contribute to proper form. Guides Polly Politely and Milton Manners introduce kids to the correct way of handling situations such as choosing utensils at the table, passing the salt and pepper, chewing ice, and disposing of olive pits. In addition to situation-specific guidance (“Finger foods, like an airplane, need to land somewhere first. . . . No direct flights from the serving dish into the mouth”), this book provides the means for determining appropriate behavior in any situation by asking children to consider those around them.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars great book; some concerns.......2005-04-05

I ordered this book for my young granddaughter who, at nearly 3 years of age, is ready to consider simple discussion of table manners. I am generally delighted with the book and believe it is one that can grow with a child, having applications even into adulthood.

I was startled, however, to find lie-lay errors on pp. 7 and 55. I also note numerous other small changes that would greatly improve a future edition. For example, some pages are written in the imperative, some are written in the declarative....some are in the third person, some are in the second person, and at least one (p. 44) slips into the first person plural. In addition, frequent use of unnecessary quotation marks is distracting.

The book fills an important niche in a child's library, but it is limited by the above weaknesses. I do not mean to be critical....I have corrected pp. 7 and 55 in my edition and will enjoy this charmingly illustrated book with my granddaughter. You could do the same.

5 out of 5 stars Manners Made Fun!.......2003-10-28

You've Got Manners is a delightful, creative book which makes learning manners a fun and interesting "game" for children of all ages. It can be used as a learning tool whether at the dinner table, eating out or traveling, and all family members can participate. I love the author's use of illustrations and vivid primary colors which are instrumental in keeping a child's attention. The author also cleverly incorporated another learning tool, the alphabet. I can unequivocally recommend You've Got Manners for every family's library.

5 out of 5 stars Manners made fun.......2003-10-16

The charming characters, bright colors, and friendly verse make this book a delightful learning experience into the world of manners, for children young and old. I recommend it highly.

I also saw Karl Eller speak. He invited investment opportunities and I approached him after the session. He invited me to send him my business plan, which he would review. I promptly did so and heard no response from him for a number of weeks. I then followed up with a number of emails, all with read receipts simply asking for acknowledgement that he received the plan or to be referred on to someone else who may be interested. Initial emails were never responded to; concurrent emails with receipts were deleted without being read.

If this is integrity in business communications, especially to a fellow entrepreneur, perhaps the concept is best left described by an individual more familiar with the concept.

5 out of 5 stars An engaging success story .......2005-04-06

Karl Eller, perhaps best known for creating the business of outdoor advertising and transforming it into a revenue powerhouse, presents Integrity Is All You've Got And Seven Other Lessons Of The Entrepreneurial Life - part memoir, part success guide, one hundred percent American spirit. Written in a candid, accessible tone, Integrity Is All You've Got outlines the perils to successfully getting an idea off the ground with spice, humor, and zest. An engaging success story that focuses on "Seven Lessons of Entrepreneurial Life", such as Profit from failure, Love selling and sell what you live, and Connections make your business. An enjoyable read, packed with tips, tricks, and techniques for achieving one's business dream.

Saw Karl Eller speak in January on entrepreneurship. It was 3 hours of cliches like "learn from your mistakes". Er... you know I'd rather keep making the same mistakes over and over again. "Figure out what you do best... and stick with it!" like how Nokia was really good at being a lumber company, and now they are the worldwide leader in mobile phones. How about this Karl "earn the right to speak".

Forget the life of perfect balance--according to the fairy godmother of self-nurturing, Jennifer Louden, it only exists in magazine articles. Instead of emphasizing balance in The Comfort Queen's Guide to Life, Louden shows readers how to get a life of meaning. In a flight of whimsy, Louden decided to write this book as if she were talking to her "inner feminine voice"--the wisecracking "Comfort Queen," who sounds like an honorary member of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. Each of the book's chapters--which have titles such as "Mindful Listening," "Glass Half Full," and "Fierce Desire"--include the Queen's tell-it-like-it-is lessons. When she's having a self-doubting spiritual crisis, Louden turns to the Comfort Queen, who helps Louden ask herself (and the readers) the right questions. Like the Sufi poet Rumi once said: it is not the answers that offer a life of meaning, it is living the questions. Louden's understanding of this truth has resulted in a humble, tea-cozy book of questions with just a few lumps of sugary advice. The only real downside to this book is that its integrity is weakened by the simultaneous launch of a complete line of cute "Comfort Queen" products. --Gail Hudson

Book Description

This deeply engaging book will help you discover the unique shape of your life by asking yourself questions. Then, with the help of the Comfort Queen, you will discover how to reorient your life around your own desires and needs rather than around time-management tricks. A Comfort Queen rules her own life. She treats herself with the same kindness and respect as she does the people she loves. She has a healthy sense of humor about herself. Rest, self-nurturing, and harmony are her imperial rights. She keeps her eye on the unfolding path of her life and lives by what she treasures. Or at least she tries.

A Comfort Queen also knows that "balance" is not a realistic goal for realistic women. Having the perfect home, the perfect relationship, and enough quality time with your children and friends is a magazine article, not a life. Jennifer Louden and her Comfort Queen know that real life isn't about balance; it's about meaning!

Jennifer Louden, the best-selling author of   The Woman's Comfort Book and The Woman's Retreat Book -- pioneering books on self-nurturing for women -- shows you realistic and fun ways to go inside yourself and create the rich, fulfilling, and sometimes slightly askew life that fits you.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Funny and practical.......2005-05-28

This engaging and humorous book shows women how to exchange the goal of life balance for the more realistic goal of finding meaning in life's ups and downs. It is primarily focused on helping women self-nurture and deal with "the juggling act."

5 out of 5 stars Honest, affirming, and fun.......2002-12-21

I love Jennifer Louden's sense of humor. She has a real gift for tackling tough subjects with humor and finesse and yet getting at the underlying truths. I treated myself to a copy of this book last year and it's really helped me to make myself a priority in my own life. Highly recommended.

1 out of 5 stars Precious, self-indulgent psychobabble.......2002-09-15

I too couldn't resist the title, and was hoping for something a little more practical. I guess. But the whole "Comfort Queen" as a literary device got really tiresome after about the first chapter. Guess I didn't realize it was quite the genre it is (femimist spiritualality stuff). While I am a feminist, and spiritual, this one just didn't connect with me.

5 out of 5 stars A fabulous guide to nurturing your inner diva.......2002-04-05

I bought myself a copy of this book in December, and then immediately had to rush back out and buy three more copies to give to close friends for Christmas. It's a terrific book: honest, funny, compelling, and packed with that from-the-heart wisdom that we fans of Jennifer Louden have come to count on. I made it part of my daily ritual to read a page or two each morning until I made my way through the entire book. What a great way to start the day. I highly recommend this book.

Ann Douglas, author, The Mother of All Pregnancy Books

5 out of 5 stars Be happy with your life.......2000-11-06

Hurray! Another book by Jennifer Louden that I had to buy. The author writes like she is talking to just you. When you pick up this book, it's like getting a brand new best friend. She second guesses what you need, and is right, and then makes suggestions for what you can do about your current situation.

5 out of 5 stars Lifted my spirits, made me laugh, helped me get well........1999-05-31

Chris Tompkins sees us all,as we are,and makes us laugh with him,at him and ourselves. Read his books and feel better. Chris has written two other books that I highly recommend.

5 out of 5 stars Humor in tradition of Thurber, Benchley revived........1997-07-29

Although admittedly I'm partial, being one of the author's sons, Chris Tompkins is a master of telling a story in the style of humorists of past generations such as James Thurber and Robert Benchley. When he hits you with his humor, it's as if he's giving you a punch, but with a velvet glove. My favorite chapter happens to be his discourse on how to open a milk carton. Anybody who can make this funny deserves a rating of 10
