Book Description
Dr. Drew Pinsky is best known as the cohost of the long-running radio advice program Loveline. But his workday is spent at a major Southern California clinic, treating the severest cases of drug dependency and psychiatric breakdown. In this riveting book, Pinsky reveals the intimate and often shocking stories of his patients as they struggle with emotional trauma, sexual abuse, and a host of chemical nemeses: alcohol, marijuana, Ecstasy, heroin, speed, cocaine, and prescription drugs. At the center of these stories is Pinsky himself, who immerses himself passionately, almost obsessively, in his work. From the sexually compulsive model to the BMW-driving soccer mom, Cracked exposes, in fast-moving, powerful vignettes, the true scope and severity of addiction, a nationwide epidemic.

One of the better books.......2007-04-17
This is an excellent book on addiction. It is written for the lay person to understand. It goes beyond the physical aspect of addiction and explains the pychological aspect.
A closer look at the Dr........2007-01-14
I've been listening to Dr. Drew on Loveline off and on for about 10 years now. At first I was skeptical about his book, afraid that it would be a rehash of everything he says on the air. While he certainly discusses many of the same topics as the show deals with, he goes into greater depth and reveals a lot more about himself than he does during the show. Although Dr. Pinsky won't be winning any Nobel Prizes for literature, he has written a very accessible book, which will help the book reach a wider audience than it would if it had been written in a more elevated or hoity-toity style. It is certainly obvious than he is a very well-educated, knowledgable doctor, but he never rubs it in the reader's face. He is open, honest, and down to earth in this book, which will hopefully create awareness and help some people.
Fabulous..........2007-01-10
Dr. Drew is awesome - compassionate, knowledgeable, and this book is a wonderful narrative of the devastation of drugs on human life.
Pretty Solid.......2007-01-05
I've listen to Dr. Drew for years. The stories were fascinating and extremely sad. There are segments of society that have a tough time and Dr. Drew helps them every day.
Excellent!.......2006-09-12
Having been with someone with several addictions - I got into reading self help books - this one I rate VERY highly - it explains well the trouble in recovery from addiction - covers drugs, alcohol and other addictions. Drew Pinsky is brilliant making it into a story of his life in treating patients with various problems.
Can't recommend it highly enough if you really can't see how addiction can take over your life - and keep returning.
Book Description
"Together Again" is a true story of twin souls who have reconnected in this lifetime. The book is written in 3 parts...the first from the male's perspective, with Dennis telling of his journey leading up to his meeting with his twin soul. The second part is written by Alice and gives the female's perspective, chronicling the years prior to her meeting with Dennis. The third part is "The Love", which is written by both Dennis and Alice, and recounts the true story of love from past lives, realized again.
James Redfield, author of "The Celestine Prophecy", calls "Together Again" "an illuminating story of twin souls reunited...two hearts beating as one." Alan Cohen, author of "The Dragon Doesn't Live Here Anymore", says:
"'Together Again' is a remarkable, inspiring journey of the heart. Dennis and Alice share deeply from their personal experience, which offers an inspiring model for open-hearted living and trusting in the guidance of Spirit. If you long to meet your soulmate, this book will offer you a wonderful model and lots of encouragement."

Best twin soul book I have read!!.......2007-10-17
This book was the best twin soul book that I have yet to read! A true, touch your heart story. In addition, a great book on the metaphysical!! I believe that Alice is the positive or male soul. I get this feeling because of the way she comes through.
Where Have You Been All My Lives?.......2006-06-30
After all is said and done ... don't marry anyone unless it is true love on both ends.... because only true love is worth it. Relationships have their ups and downs and going through life with another is only worth the investment if they are the true love. Otherwise.... stay single. This book sheds lots of wisdom why it is best to either be true love or nothing at all.
Seek and Ye Shall Find.......2006-04-09
Recently I searched for "Dennis Jackson" using Google. I did not know I would find this author; but when I did, I was curious about the book. Curiosity got the best of me, and I ordered the book from Amazon. I am a chronic proofreader and am fanatic about punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure. However, I became engrossed in this book to the point of overcoming my obsession with proofreading. What a beautiful story of two people willing to share their true natures! The authors' definition of twin souls differs from my own (i.e. two souls created at the same time and sharing many lifetimes together but not necessarily romantically involved). The two authors told their stories exceptionally well, keeping my interest throughout the book. I am definitely looking forward to their next book, The Psychic and the Lawyer.
Can't put it down!!!!!!!!.......2006-03-31
I had been wanting this book for quite some time now. I finally bought it! Let me tell you, so far so good. I just got it today and have already read a quarter of the book!!!! It's easy to read and to follow along. I'm hooked already and tempted to stay up all night just to read the whole thing!!!!
I should say, I can relate to his story for I have found my twin soul (soulmate). So much of what Dennis has gone through (I have yet to read Alice's story), is similiar to my situation and helps me to understand my life.
Maybe the book resonates more with me because I can look back on my life and see all the pertinent events that helped to lead me to my twin soul. There's no simple answers or steps to follow that could bring your twin soul to you. As they say, it always happens when you're least looking for it (which is also true in my case!) And remember, it may not even happen in this lifetime. Not everyone is always ready for the kind of unconditional love that comes with twin soul relationships!
Boring details and not much help.......2005-09-27
This is isn't a "how to" book so don't expect any great hints on finding your own twin soul. Lots and lots of agonizing details in telling their story how they met, but little else...

Book Description
Brain, body, and world are united in a complex dance of circular causation and extended computational activity. In Being There, Andy Clark weaves these several threads into a pleasing whole and goes on to address foundational questions concerning the new tools and techniques needed to make sense of the emerging sciences of the embodied mind. Clark brings together ideas and techniques from robotics, neuroscience, infant psychology, and artificial intelligence. He addresses a broad range of adaptive behaviors, from cockroach locomotion to the role of linguistic artifacts in higher-level thought.
Customer Reviews:
Great reading on the Mind-Body problem.......2003-04-04
Andy Clark provides us with a new framework for thinking about the mind. Gone are the old notions of a clean boundary between the thinker and the world. Clark does a great job of making the point that our brains are essentially embodied agents that profit profoundly from the local environmental structure. He introduces this new movement in cognitive science to study the brain, body, and world together as a complex system of interactions and dependencies and calls for a cognitive science of the embodied mind.
Clark is not proposing a radical idea. In fact, he defends at some length that his work is in fact a solution to the radical ideas that currently dominate the field. Clark suggests refining the tools of study used, and finding a middle ground between competing theories. I personally question whether a middle ground is appropriate in science. When anomalies exist in current models, does it serve us well to take the best of all available theories and smooth them together as Clark does? Perhaps in the case of the brain, this is a good idea, even though many other sciences (like physics) fair better with simpler one-size-fits-all solutions. Due to the brain's complexity unmatched anywhere in the known universe, maybe a simple (radical) way of studying it isn't possible (or at least within human capabilities).
Clark certainly builds a strong case, particularly by applying examples and comparisons throughout the book. His ideas are well thought out, his writing is clear (though perhaps a little repetitive), and the book as a whole is well worth reading.
Being There definitely gets you thinking.
A New Approach to Philosophy of Mind.......2000-07-12
For those dissatisfied with both dualism and West Coast eliminative materialism, Andy Clark's philosophy of mind offers readers an alternative: an embodied mind. Here's a philosophy that embeds the human mind in its environment, its culture, and its history. And and author who writes like a dream! For a revitalized philosophy of mind, read it together with Alicia Juarrero's Dynamics in Action: Intentional Behavior as a Complex System and Merlin Donald's Origins of the Modern Mind!Enjoy!
A new conceptual framework in the offing.......2000-04-12
When read in tandem with Paul Cilliers Complexity and Postmodernism, and Alicia Juarrero's Dynamics in Action, Andy Clark's Being There articulates the outline of a new philosophical framework: one which takes complexity, embodiment, history and context seriously. Kudos!
probably the most readable and reasonable book on mind-body.......1998-10-18
Clark develops in a very clear way the main threads of contemporary mind-body research. He argues for a non-dogmatic approach to the very difficult questions that epistemology, brain research and artificial life have put in the last twenty years. His position is with those who are not trying to explain everything from a single source or with single set of tools. Not reductionism, not holism or not only emergence or cognitivism or connectionism. Still, he sees the advantages of each theory and he gives a very subtle and insightful overview of what each strand has to contribute. I have read maybe twenty books on the subject in the past few months, from Varela to Jackendorf and from Minsky to Harré, but only Clark seems to be able to make the field transparent and coherent. If he sometimes loses in boldness, he certainly wins in promise. A book that should become a compulsary reading for anyone who wants to be introduced in the field.

An enjoyable, can't-put-down tale, that will leave you in the Christmas spirit - even during those warm, summer months!.......2006-09-24
Winter break has arrived, and the Callahan cousins (Hillary, Kate, Phoebe, and Neeve) have decided to spend their holiday vacation together at Grandmother Gee's rambling estate in the lovely, and very holiday-oriented, Gull Island. The reunion won't be as long as last summer, but the four girls, along with sprightly Gee, plan on making the most of it. Especially Phoebe. Phoebe, the voracious reader, has dreamt of a perfect, traditional Christmas ever since she was a mere toddler, lugging around her copy of Laura Ingalls Wilder's LITTLE HOUSE IN THE BIG WOODS. However, living in sunny Florida, and having a father insistent upon un-Christmas-like traditions, Phoebe has never gotten her wish. But this year, she knows things will be different. This year, with a little help from her beloved cousins, and Gee, along with Gee's cook, Sheila, Phoebe has decided that everything will be traditional. From the Victorian-era tree they decorate in the living room, to the foods and desserts they indulge in, even going as far as wishing the snow would stick for once. However, the more that Phoebe becomes obsessed with snowman contests, sledding, caroling, making snow angels, and even participating in a Christmas-themed sleepover at the Gull Island Whaling Museum, the more she drives the people around her crazy. Now, with Phoebe planning an extra special, extra furry, holiday gift for Gee, the cousins realize just how out-of-hand Phoebe's plans for a proper traditional Christmas have become, and enlist the help of Gee to talk some sense into her before the holiday is ruined. and Phoebe's plans for a proper traditional Christmas go out the window.
As a voracious reader myself, who has always dreamed of a proper traditional Christmas in the fashion of those described in the works of Laura Ingalls Wilder, Louise May Alcott, and countless others, I found myself forming an instant bond with Phoebe, and understanding exactly what she was looking for in terms of Christmas and celebration, straight off the bat. In fact, to a certain extent, I almost felt as if this story was written about me - a feeling I rarely experience. Elizabeth Doyle Carey has done an amazing job of capturing the emotions of Phoebe, as well as those of the people around her. Her descriptions of highs and lows, disappointments, and excitement are accurate, and really send the reader into fits of joy and sadness along with the characters. In TOGETHER AGAIN, Carey features countless narratives that truly bring the imagery to life; from the snow-covered plains and trees, to the smells of delicious desserts baking; all the way to the screeching, yet joyful, sounds of carolers, and the gift that you receive from helping those less fortunate than yourself. Mixed together, these things present a delightful holiday story that will warm anyone's heart. My only qualm is that a recipe for the angel cakes wasn't included. An enjoyable, can't-put-down tale, that will leave you in the Christmas spirit - even during those warm, summer months!

A Fun Read.......2006-02-03
You Were Born Again To Be Together presents what claims to be case histories of love surviving death via the process of reincarnation. A reader is introduced to several people who apparently remembered under hypnosis not only who they were in previous lifetimes, but that many of those they knew in their current life were with them then. This book amazed me when I first read it as a teenager but since then I've asked myself some questions about the author's claims. I attended one of Dick Sutphen's seminars and was less than impressed. I've also gotten his magazine/catalog and spent some time on his website, and frankly I question much of what this marketing genius claims. But that's just me. Anyone else can think what they want. As for this book, it's still an interesting read that appeals to my philosophical side and to the historian in me, though I greet it today with a more `evaluating' eye than I did at seventeen. Skeptics have had a field day with New Age types like Sutphen, and it doesn't hurt to read up on what those individuals have to say. When taken with something elss than blind faith, this book is no worse than harmless and it's worth the money for the questions it raises, if nothing else. It's also due for a re-print. Has it truly not been published since 1987? The copy I got ten years ago was from a thrift store, so maybe it can be found there, if it remains unavailable on Amazon.
Truly engrossing--Must Read!!.......1999-08-18
This book will enable you to have a better understanding of why some relationships are suburb and others are awful. If it's not meant to be--it's NOT MEANT TO BE!! Eliminated much of the confusion associated with the why's.... There is absolutely a reason for everything!!
I highly recommend this book; I've read it numerous times since I first bought it in 1976!! It gave me chills and "goosebumps"--my thoughts and beliefs were in writing in front of me, like I was reading something I had written... Find it, read it, read it again--understand the heartaches and misery and happiness and bliss!!
This book is an excellent book for past life introspection........1998-11-03
This book is one of those books that will change your life. It will take you through the teachings of Dick Stuphen as he regresses a number of people into their past lives. The book is excellent for everyone...from the expert down to the beginner. Even if you just think past lives are intriguing, you will find this book will open your eyes to possibilities you've never even thought of. You will read the case histories of a number of Dick's friends and associates and will explore past lives in Atlantis, in the time just after Christ died, as well as many others. Caution: make sure you have an open mind before reading. You won't regret making this purchase.

Wow !!!.......2006-08-15
I just finished this book and would highly recommend to any member of either type of congregation. The book only has a few chapters and can be read in 3 hours or less.
I love the point that the authors make regarding the wide spectrum between topics that the bible addresses clearly and topics that the bible does not address. If we classify everything as a black or white, wrong or right, then we are being naive and over simplistic. This is not post-modernism -- this is just common sense.

An excellent introduction to the marvels of body-wisdom........1999-10-01
It is no mistake that current research is affirming the role of the body in the establshment of individual consciousness. With unmatched sensitivity, master-teachers Porter and Winton-Henry have discovered a new way of "being" in the world. This book is foundational in an understanding of the philosophy which they both teach and live. I hardily recommend it to anyone seeking greater integration and wholeness in their lives. The text is clear, readable, and very entertaining. Numerous examples and exercises help the reader to understand the wonderous delights of this marvelous system.
