Where the Wild Things Are is one of those truly rare books that can be enjoyed equally by a child and a grown-up. If you disagree, then it's been too long since you've attended a wild rumpus. Max dons his wolf suit in pursuit of some mischief and gets sent to bed without supper. Fortuitously, a forest grows in his room, allowing his wild rampage to continue unimpaired. Sendak's color illustrations (perhaps his finest) are beautiful, and each turn of the page brings the discovery of a new wonder.

The wild things--with their mismatched parts and giant eyes--manage somehow to be scary-looking without ever really being scary; at times they're downright hilarious. Sendak's defiantly run-on sentences--one of his trademarks--lend the perfect touch of stream of consciousness to the tale, which floats between the land of dreams and a child's imagination.

This Sendak classic is more fun than you've ever had in a wolf suit, and it manages to reaffirm the notion that there's no place like home.

5 out of 5 stars Classic Story.......2007-10-19

I am a Love and Logic trainer for parents and I frequently tell them that not one child has ever died from missing a meal....but many parents have come close to dying from worrying about it. Where the Wild Things Are proves that Max's mom couldn't let him go to bed without his supper.

This book has been around since 1963 and the art work changed sometime in the 1980's I believe. Maurice Sendak is a talented artist and writer. It is a book you can read over and over and over again....just ask my children who are now in their late 20's.

It was a favorite with my children and now I am reading it to my grandchild...it's wonderful.

This is truly a childhood classic that every parent should buy for their child. Very imaginative storytelling!

5 out of 5 stars Still As Good.......2007-09-26

I grew up just loving this book. I think it havd more influence on my imagination than any other book.

I recently had a son and purchased this book to read with him and it is just as entertaining after all these years.

5 out of 5 stars Timeless Tale Is Sheer Magic!.......2007-09-19

What child hasn't dreamed of being a wild animal, untamed and free? Of having no boundaries or restrictions?

In the magical world of a young boy's imagination, a wonderland can blossom. Sent to bed without supper for misbehaving, the unrepentant and spirited Max lets his imagination soar. His bedroom transformed into an exotic wilderness, Max sets sail across a deep blue sea to where the "wild things" are. After taming all of these fearsome monsters (turns out, he's the wildest of them all), the newly crowned "king of all wild things" leads them on quite a romp....until the lonely boy decides to return to the place where he is loved.

This journey into imagination is wonderful, whimsical and extraordinary. Small wonder that "Wild Things" was named the Caldecott Medal Winner for the Most Distinguished Picture Book of the Year in 1964. Author/Illustrator Maurice Sendak has created a timeless classic - one which will always be among my personal favorites.

I'm a nature guide in a nature sanctuary and I loved this book. I frequently lead very young children on woods walks and talk to them about nature, and when I mention the Magic Schoolbus and tell them about this book, it always gets their attention. Most children (and adults) just don't think about rot and the "decomposers" and what they do for the forest. Talking about this book helps get them digging for bugs in rotten logs!

5 out of 5 stars The Bee-siest Field Trip of All Time.......2004-10-26

"The Magic School Bus: Inside a Beehive" represents a slight departure for author, Joanna Cole, and illustrator, Bruce Degen. Written in 1996, this book could easily have been all about our friends, the insects. Because, as student Dorothy Ann explains in the opening pages, "There are more insect species on earth than all other animals put together!" Indeed, you need look no farther than your own backyard (or a few dusty corners of your home) to find bugs of all shapes and sizes crawling around, buzzing about, and foraging for food.

However, Cole and Degen chose to shine their respective spotlight on one insect in particular. Not that this is a bad thing. In fact, it's the exact opposite. According to Florrie, another student of Ms. Frizzle, "There are more than 20,000 different kinds of bees." And the word "bee" itself conjures up all sorts of emotions in people. Some are deathly afraid of them; others have been stung and know the pain a sting induces; and then there are those who are allergic to these insects.

But is that all there is to the bee? Is it really the little stinging monster we think it is? Or is there something more to this delicate creature than we know? And this, readers, is where Cole, Degen, a band of students, and some teacher nicknamed the Friz, enter the picture. For they are going to set the record straight, once and for all, about what the nature of bees really entails.

Our latest adventure starts out with Ms. Frizzle and her students studying insects, such as ants and cockroaches and goliath beetles. She has also arranged a field trip to a local honeybee hive.

"The beekeeper is visiting his hives today," says the Friz. "We'll meet him there." And with that she sweeps out the door.

"Maybe this will be a normal field trip for a change," one student expresses to another.

With Ms. Frizzle, only the most adventurous teacher in the entire known universe, at the helm? Don't bet on it! However, as it turns out, she does have a normal field trip in store this time. She even brings along a picnic basket while she and the students wait for the beekeeper to arrive.

Then it happens. The moment at which this otherwise regular field trip takes a sharp turn into irregular. While attempting to open a jar of honey -- "Some light refreshments will pass the time while we wait," says the Friz -- she accidentally knocks her elbow against a strange lever. The bus shrinks faster than a student can say, "Great galloping gargoyles!" And, to no one's surprise, students and teacher are magically transformed into bees.

Readers and students alike learn all sorts of bee-utiful facts about these insects in Cole and Degen's latest entry into science for children. Did you know the average bee visits thousands of flowers every day? Or that, sometimes, an entire hive may "adopt" a lost bee if it is carrying a lot of food? How, exactly, does a bee, while gathering nectar for the hive, manage to pollinate all those flowers at the same time? What tasks are different bees assigned once inside the hive? Do they really communicate with one another by performing a bee dance? Readers will be amazed when they discover how many eggs the queen bee lays each day, and they'll be even more surprised when they see what happens when two queen bees are born at the same time inside the hive.

By focusing on just one insect in particular, Cole and Degen manage to "humanize" the bee. Meaning, through their research and attention to detail, they have made the bee less scary than it actually is. Do bees go around looking for people to sting? Of course not. As explained in the story, a sting is not particular conducive to the bee giving it or the person on the receiving end of it.

Besides the excellent writing and fabulous artwork (a staple of any collaboration between Cole and Degen), there are two other aspects of this story that work well for it. Borrowing a page out of Jan Brett's playbook ("The Hat" and "The Mitten"), Cole uses the "story within a story" technique to great effect here. While Ms. Frizzle and her students are buzzing around, we see snippets of why the beekeeper is late, as well as hints of danger to come for teacher, students and the bees! Anyone who's read the "Jesse Bear" series (also wonderfully illustrated by Degen) will instantly recognize the bear invading this story.

Not wanting to break with tradition, Cole and Degen explain, at the end of their latest offering, what was fact in the story and what was made up. They also provide a subtle -- or not so subtle -- hint of what lays in store for the Friz and her students for their next field trip. It will be a shock, no doubt; one readers will definitely get a charge out of!

As Ms. Frizzle herself would say, "Bee of good cheer, class. We're on our way!"

4 out of 5 stars More Science!.......2001-07-29

My son is 4 years old and we read to him a lot. Now, before bed, he announces, "Mom, you know what kind of book to read....ONLY SCIENCE!" He loves science, and the Magic School Bus is a great, fun way to introduce it, even to a preschooler!

4 out of 5 stars Beekeeper's Review.......1999-12-12

Kids (of all ages) ask the darndest things. When we work fairs or are identified as beekeepers in public, we are bomberded with basic questions regarding honeybees. This book was bought for my mother as much as for my brother's son. He asks her questions difficult to answer without pictures, "How do bees make wax...?" This book goes into enough detail to answer all the "How do...?'s" likely to come up regarding honeybees. A fine book for any child interested in insects. Also a good selection to temper the fears of those children that may fear bees. The pages are a little busy, otherwise would have gotten 5 stars.

5 out of 5 stars Once again, Magic School Bus hits the mark!.......1998-04-19

The full details in this book are simple enough to keep children's interests (mine are ages 4 and 8) but still provide more data than even I knew. The subject matter is of particular interest to kids, not only because bees are encountered nearly every day, but this book helps this overcome the fear that some children have of bees by showing them as peaceful, otherwise occupied and busy creatures. Don't miss this, or any other Magic School Bus book if you have kids!

Book Description

Arnold has swallowed the Magic School Bus! Now, instead of seeing an exhibit of the human body at a museum, the class is taking a look at Arnold's stomach, his intestines, his bloodstream, and more from the inside on this heart-stopping fieldtrip - one the reluctant Arnold would be happy to miss.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars a great book out of a great series - a review by Eli (age 7).......2006-08-24

This book is really out of this world. I have been hooked on the magic school bus series. I can't wait to read more books in the series. The inside the human body book is full with very interesting facts and I learned so much from reading it. Arnold doesn't know where the bus is and is trying to find it. He doesn't even know that it is actually inside him. Then Arnold sneezes and finds the bus right next to him. He doesn't understand how he didn't see it before.

5 out of 5 stars packed with information.......2004-08-01

Ms. Frizzle is taking her class on a memorable field trip through the human body in this entertaining book featuring the beloved eccentric teacher and her curious class. My only complaint is that the pages are so busy with information that it's impossible to sit and really read the whole book, but perhaps it's best to let a child's curiosity guide you through a number of readings rather than trying to get everything in at one sitting. Concepts are expressed clearly and with humor. Justly popular with young students.

5 out of 5 stars Fifth Food Group: Magic School Buses.......2003-10-13

Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen outdo themselves in "The Magic School Bus: Inside the Human Body." It is their most ambitious collaboration yet, and it definitely doesn't disappoint.

As is the custom, the third book in this science series (written in 1989) picks up where the second story left off. Ms. Frizzle is showing her students a filmstrip about the human body. "We're going to learn all about ourselves," she says. Then she announces the next field trip - the class is heading to the museum to "see an exhibit about how our bodies get energy from the food we eat." However, anyone who has even an inkling as to the kind of person Ms. Frizzle is should know that things rarely, if ever, go according to plan. A field trip is never just a field trip when you're taking a ride aboard her magic school bus.

The Friz and her students stop at a park for lunch before arriving at the museum. Afterward, everyone goes back to the bus . . . except for Arnold! He's still sitting at a picnic table, daydreaming and eating a bag of Cheesie-Weesies. And before the class realizes what is happening, the bus shrinks to the size of a Cheesie-Weesie . . . where it is promptly downed in one gulp by Arnold!

"I thought we were going to the museum," says one student.

"There's been a slight change of plans," explains Ms. Frizzle. "We're being digested instead."

Why visit an exhibit about the human body when you have a magic school bus and a teacher like Ms. Frizzle who can take you directly to the source?

If "At the Waterworks" was like priming the pump, and "Inside the Earth" was like getting the ball rolling, "Inside the Human Body" is like plowing full-steam ahead. Cole and Degen have firmly established themselves as a literacy force to be reckoned with; this is proven in the confidence of the writing and the boldness of the illustrations. There is so much going on in this story that you almost need a scorecard to keep track of it all. It seems as though Cole and Degen are bound and determined to one-up themselves with every book they come out with.

A list of some things Ms. Frizzle educates her class about would include: blood cells (red and white), blood vessels, digestion, germs, the heart, lungs, molecules, oxygen, plasma, the small intestine, etc. Do you know what villi are? You will after you read this book! Any idea what the cerebral cortex does? Ms. Frizzle will show you! Ever wondered why you sneeze? The answer resides in this story!

"Inside the Human Body" deserves just as much, if not more, a home on a person's bookshelf as does "At the Waterworks" and "Inside the Earth." Cole and Degen loaded their latest adventure to the bursting-point with information. You can see the growth author and illustrator have taken since their inaugural effort with "At the Waterworks." They prove that some things do, indeed, get better with age.

At the end of "Inside the Human Body" is a true-false test to help readers distinguish what things were true in the story and what things were made up. And, of course, Ms. Frizzle drops another clue as to where her next great adventure will take us. I'm pretty sure the class will think of their next field trip as out of this world!

It doesn't seem possible, but Cole and Degen managed to improve upon an already-winning formula. They are both in top form with "Inside the Human Body," a field trip that will take you from the brain to the small intestine and back again. Well, what are you waiting for? Hitch a ride on the magic school bus!

As Ms. Frizzle herself would say, "Seatbelts, everyone!"

My daughter is 3 1/2 years old. I got this book and wasn't sure if it would be to complicated for her. She loves it! I have ordered a few more Magic School Bus books and she can't get enough of them. She even drew a picture of her Daddy's red blood cells! It was hilarious. But best of all, she enjoys them so much. They are her favorite books and she is learning about science. I wish I had these when I was a kid.

Book Description

OUT OF HIDING. INTO DANGER.

Luke Garner is an illegal third child. All his life has been spent in hiding. Now, for the first time, Luke is living among others. He has assumed a deceased boy's identity and is attending Hendricks School for Boys, a windowless building with cruel classmates and oblivious teachers. Luke knows he has to blend in, but he lives in constant fear that his behavior will betray him.

Then one day Luke discovers a door to the outside. He knows that beyond the walls of Hendricks lie the secrets he is desperate to uncover. What he doesn't know is whom he can trust -- and where the answers to his questions may lead him...

Download Description

Luke Garner is terrified. Out of hiding for the first time in his life, he knows that any minute one of his new classmates at Hendricks School for Boys could discover his secret: that he's a third child passing as the recently deceased Lee Grant. And in a society where it's illegal for families to have more than two children, being a third child means certain death at the hands of the dreaded Population Police. His first experience outside the safety of his home is bewildering. There's not a single window anywhere in the school; Luke can't tell his classmates apart (even as they subject him to brutal hazing); and the teachers seem oblivious to it all. Desperate to fit in, Luke endures the confusion and teasing until he discovers an unlocked door to the outside, and a chance to understand what is really going on. But to take this chance -- to find out the secrets of Hendricks -- Luke will need to put aside his fears and discover a courage that a lifetime in hiding couldn't thwart. Once again, best-selling author Margaret Peterson Haddix delights her fans with this spine-tingling account of an all-too-possible future. Among the Impostors is a worthy companion to Among the Hidden and a heart-stopping thriller in its own right.

Luke Garner is an illegal third child. Mr. Talbot gets Luke a fake ID and under the name Lee Luke attends Hendricks School for boys. However, Luke's first few weeks at the school did not go as planned. He didn't know where his classes were, and at bed time his bunkmates would push him around. Later in the book Luke finds a door leading to the outdoors from Hendricks. While outside one night he meets a group of third children all using fake ID's. However, one night just when things starting going good for Luke, he saw Jason (the group's leader) sneak out of bed. Luke followed and overheard Jason on the phone with the population police ratting out four of the boys in the group. Luke figured out Jason was an informer and knocked him out. Then he carried Jason down the stairs to the nurse's office and told her that he had delirium, and had a seizure, thrashing around ranting and raving. Luke still had to save the other four boys so he quickly thought of a plan and called Mr. Talbot. The next morning Jason was arrested instead of the four boys (the work of Mr. Talbot).

I really enjoyed this book it was thrilling and suspenseful. With all of the twists and turns in this story I couldn't put the book down. I believe many others will enjoy this book as much as I did, and I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Courtney's review for Among the Impostors .......2007-04-13

This book is about a boy named Luke, but he is pretending to be Lee Grant (that's his fake name). Luke goes to a school for only boys; right after coming out of hiding. Luke was very scared going into the 1st school he'd ever gone too. When Luke gets to the school he noticed that all the teachers didn't take roll to see who was in class. But of course there were hall monitors so you couldn't skip class. Then one day he found a door, cracked open a little. So he went through the door to find that it led to the outside. When he was outside he noticed there were no windows in the school at all; not even one. Also while Luke was out side he started to build a garden. But after a few days the garden had been trampled by kids that must have already known about the door. So one day Luke followed the boys outside to listen and learn; then he revealed himself. Luckily for Luke they accepted Luke into there group; but mainly because he knew Jen. Most of the kids were shadow children too; so Luke felt a little better being around other shadow children. So Luke started to hang out with them. They helped him through some of the days through school; but one day Luke discovered that one of the kids in the group was working for the population police; and was going to betray them all by turning them in to the population police. The trader was the leader of the group, Jason. So Luke acted without thinking and knocked Jason out; then pulled him to the nurse. Then the next day the population police came to the school looking for illegal 3rd children; but only the ones who had betrayed them were taken away. This book was very exciting and suspenseful and I would recommend this book to anyone (but you might want to read the 1st book of the series before you read this one).

In among the imposters Luke has to figure out how to be Lee Grant who died in an accident just weeks ago. As he was just aimlessly wondering the classes he noticed that the teachers did not check to see who was in the class but just went on with class. He also noticed that there were no windows at all. Later he found a door by accident that lead outside. He stayed out the rest of the day. He started to plant a garden but it was pulverized by others that aparently alredy knew about the door. He finaly got up the courage to follow them. when he got out from behind the tree there was an ocwerd silence. Later they accepted him into there group. He also found out that pretty much all of the other kids were in hiding as well. He follows one of his new friends and finds out that he was going to betray them all. This ends up being a fight for life or death. Luke takes the unconcous boy to the nurse and comes up with a pretty convincing story. Then the police orrive in the morning every one was frozen in fear because if they had there reel names and knew where they where they would be killed. But in the end only the traters were taken ayway. This is a very exiting and suspensfull book and I highly sugest you reed it.

5 out of 5 stars Great 2nd Book in Shadow Children Series.......2007-02-22

Among the Impostors was very scary when Luke first got to Hendricks school for boys cause he had to meet new people like Elodie aka Nina,Trey,Jason(impostor). It was also scary when they took Nina to jail and had Luke hit Jason on the nose with his textbook to knock him out in the end.I liked it when Luke was trying to run away in the forest but Jason(impostor)caught up to him and Luke hit his nose on the branch and got a bloody nose.

5 out of 5 stars Shadow.......2007-01-22

The book Among the Imposters by Margaret Peterson Haddix is an amazing, intense sequel to the book Among the Hidden. It is about a boy Luke who gets a new identity, and is enrolled into Hendricks School for Boys. During his first few months at school, he notices many sstanrge things. After one night when he follows some boys out of the school into the woods, he listens to them talk and finds out they are also shadow children. This goes through his adventure trying to keep it a scecret that his really name isn't Lee Grant.

This book is an amzing book that takes you on a wild adventure through Luke's life at school. He has to handle a lot of rude people at first, but after a while he makes friends. I like the way the author made this book, so you would not be able to put it down. I loved that Luke risked almost everything to find another shadow child at his school. It was kind of scary when he thinks that he has lost everything and is caught. Will he get caught or not? It makes you really wonder how life would be if this were real. When you read this book, you will not be able to put it down. I can't wait to find out what happens in the following books!

5 out of 5 stars Imagination, a Wonderful Think.......2007-02-14

Even when you are little you can imagine big, so begins this adorable book. Written in rhyme, the story begins as the clock goes tick-tock, is that the key in the lock? It is the end of the day and the library is closed. A white mouse dressed in a purple suit begins to tell of his adventures, of all the things he can be.

With the help of books he can be a clown, a juggler, or a lady bug on a leaf. On the pages he flips, he finds good cheer in storybook trips. In winter he's snow spinning a silvery fable, frosted wilderness-white on the library table. He's a king, he's a queen, and upon all words he stands tall.

He's red, he's yellow, and he's iridescent blue. Short stories are rainbows of sharp color and hue. He is paper, he is ink. He becomes any book he reads. He can read, he can imagine so can you, take a look

If you want to stimulate your child's imagination this is the book for you. It is colorful and fun to read. Who doesn't love cute little mice, as long as they are illustrated in books? Each page is filled with fantasy and wonder.

A neighbor sent me the link to this author's website and I immediately became entranced with her style, it is unique, captivating and totally engaging - my kids (5, 6 and 8) LOVE it! I sent the web site link to all my friends - everyone adores her books, they are fun, inspirational and this mom wants to put the word out for others: With the oversaturated, overabundant children's picture book market, why not choose books with sweet, thoughtful and positive messages?! It helps us moms do our jobs better! From one mom to another - thanks Stephanie Lisa Tara!

5 out of 5 stars A creative and encouraging tale.......2006-07-12

With illustrations from Alex Walton, Little Library Mouse by Stephanie Lisa Tara is a creative and encouraging tale of an illustrious mouse who lives in a library and when the library is closed and locked at the end of the day carries his little furry mouse friends through fun and imagination driven adventures to be found in the library's many books. Enrapturing the minds of its young readers, Little Library Mouse combines a poetic text with full page works of art in presenting his adventurous endeavors throughout the night of the darkened library through pages and pictures of some very interesting books. A perfect choice for all school and community library picturebook collections, Little Library Mouse is very highly recommended for young readers and their parents seeking to instill in their children a love of reading and an appreciation of libraries.

Finding innovative and evocative ways to stimulate, inspire children - is the key to effectively teaching special education -- a colleague handed me this big beautiful purple book last week, its joyful large-type rhymes had me giggling. Then I put it to the real test and read it to my students.

It is rare that I have such a huge response -- Little Library Mouse instantly became everyone's favorite. My students repeat the bouncing lines back to me, they speak openly about the book's concepts; of words, sentences, poems, stories... of books taking the imagination anywhere it wishes to go, regardless of physical handicaps.

Skillfully told, beautiful illustrated, this teacher gives it a large gold star! Brilliant work from Stephanie Lisa Tara.

4 out of 5 stars Wonderful!.......2006-04-20

What do a mouse, a trapeze and a library have in common? The answer lies within the pages of the Little Library Mouse, by Stephanie Lisa Tara.

A nameless mouse jumps into action, through rhyme, as the library is closed for the evening. We're invited on a journey as the mouse "sails on a sentence" and becomes library book characters, including a ship, a wild animal and a circus act.

Tara enchants us with her storytelling as she makes a library tour exciting, encouraging literacy and reading. Little Library Mouse is to be applauded for its light-as-a-feather rhymes, a style Tara undoubtedly perfected while earning a B.A. in English.

The illustrations, by Alex Walton, are bold, confident, full-page drawings of a mouse as he takes on the identity of the story he becomes.

This exciting adventure is sure to please the preschooler set and would also make a great baby shower gift. It would also be an excellent jumping-off point for parent/teacher and child to create new rhymes, based upon Tara's format.

Armchair Interviews says: This story, as with the Man on the Flying Trapeze, "floats through air with the greatest of ease." Bravo, Little Library Mouse...bravo!

5 out of 5 stars Great Nonfiction Companion to Magic Tree House books.......2007-05-20

Personally, I am not very excited by the fictional series of Magic Tree House books. The extra stuff about Jack and Annie are very boring to me and I've found many students who feel the same way. What excites me and I find interesting are the non-fiction companion books. They are 10 times better than the fiction books. I love to read them and learn a lot from reading them.

5 out of 5 stars Sabertooths & the Ice Age.......2007-01-18

My son really enjoys the entire series of The Magic Tree House and the guidebooks. The stories keep him turning pages, in addition it provides additional learning material on the subjects being written about. Once they start reading with book one, children will want to continue the journey in the following books.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars light and fluffy fantasy.......2007-07-04

This is a very plot heavy and magic heavy book. That makes it perfect for those not necessarily wedded to long, dense books. It got a bit silly at times, but that's perfect for its intended audience. The thickness of the paper and the size and spacing of the type make it appear much longer than it is.

5 out of 5 stars Septimus Heap: Flyte the long lost art of Flying.......2007-06-02

Flyte, the second book in the Septimus Heap series, is about an ancient lost art of Flying. Flyte is almost rediscovered by Darke Magyk. To add to that, little princess Jenna is kidnapped by one of her own family member. Septimus Heap goes out searching for Jenna and ends up putting Flyte together. He gets two ways to fly: Flyte and Beast.....

It is an intriguing well written book with its quick, witty cast of characters and infinite magical imaginary capabilities.Magyk (Septimus Heap, Book 1)Physik (Septimus Heap, Book 3)

5 out of 5 stars Flyte.......2007-05-23

This is a wonderful book full of fun and adventure in which the Heaps are caught up in the stream of magic and the evil plot of evil wizard DomDaniel trying yet agian to become king and the Extra ordinary wizard. Along with some help from one of the Heaps (which one is it?), DomDaniel almost succeeds. Anyone who likes adventure and magic will like this story because of its amazing storyline and happy ending.

4 out of 5 stars The continuing adventures of Septimus Heap.......2007-05-23

Okay so Septimus Heap is an apprentice to an extraordinary wizard, and he's back in this sequel to Magyk. As you might have guessed, DomDaniel was defeated but not destroyed, and he's more intent than ever on ruling the castle as the extraordinary wizard. To do this, DomDaniel must remove Jenna, the rightful heir to the throne.

The book finds Septimus Heap about a year after the events in the first book. He has slipped into his new life as an apprentice. The darkness still lingers as a menacing shadow follows Marcia the wizard everywhere. Meanwhile, Jenna also has adjusted to her new life as a princess. Life is good for both as they say but one day when the mysterious Simon Heap shows up he suddenly kidnapps Jenna. Septimus ends up going off on his own to resuce Jenna because no one believes him when he says Simon is now evil.

Over all, I enjoyed reading Flyte. Although the plotting meanders at times and the writing isn't as good as with Magyck, the book has many fun elements and is an interesting read. I'd recommend this highly to readers of Robert Stanek's Keeper Martin's Tales (The Kingdoms and the Elves, In the Service of Dragons, etc). The books are similarly well written and inventive. I'd also recommend to those who enjoy Artemis Fowl but are looking for more detail and more mature stories.

4 out of 5 stars A fun read.......2007-05-17

I enjoyed reading Flyte, the sequel to Magyk in the Septimus Heap series of books. It has a lot of fun elements, and the plot held my attention well. Yes, there are some things in it that will make you think of Harry Potter here and there, but Angie Sage manages to keep those things few, and her world is not one to be confused with the world of the Harry Potter books.
In this book Septimus is coming into more acceptance with his family and finding his place in their lives and as Apprentice to the ExtraOrdinary Wizard. The plot moves quickly, and while there are a few moments of predictability, in general it kept me guessing. I look forward to reading the third installment soon.
