Think carefully about what you want from this book.......2004-05-03
Dorothy Randall Gray, author of "Soul Between the Lines," has for many years taught a workshop called "Writing From Your Heartland." This book, which draws heavily on that workshop, has a very informal style that's rather endearing, and keeps a couple of things from becoming annoying. For example, all her tales of benefits people have gained from her workshop would sound self-congratulatory if the tone were more formal. "Soul" is about figuring out your life, trying things until you find out what works for you, and heading off in a better direction than the one you rode in on.
Ms. Gray has a wonderful sense of poetry. Her prose is a little rougher, with some interesting typos and mistakes here and there, but I've seen far worse and did enjoy her style quite a bit. Each chapter (or section of chapter) ends up with several specific sections. One is called "journeys," and suggests topics for freewrites that involve the concepts just discussed. "Food for thought" is a sort of free-association list. Finally, each section ends with "seasonal surrenders." These are little rituals you can use to remind yourself of the divinity and specialness of life.
There are definitely some things about this book I didn't like. It's a bit new-agey for me. In particular, the section on angels annoyed me. The tone of the section left me with the impression that angels were supposed to be silly, cherubic beings playing pranks on people for fun. Ms. Gray sometimes refers to things as being "medical fact," or having been shown through research, as though research automatically confers validity--there's plenty of flawed research out there.
Ultimately, there are several considerations to keep in mind when deciding whether you want to read this book:
1. If you want a serious book on writing, you probably want a different book.
2. If you want a book on exploring spirituality through writing, this is probably a great book for you.
3. If you want a book with some neat new stuff that might inspire your creativity in unusual directions, and you don't mind reading through the spirituality, then this book has some inspiring and unusual writing prompts that you won't find elsewhere.
Too Much New Age, Not Enough Writing.......2004-02-24
Disappointingly new-age with lots of stuff about the magic of colors, and the magic of air, water, fire and earth, etc. etc. Might have been intriguing had I picked this up in the New Age section, but I found it tiresome after a while.
I certainly wasn't able to use her suggested exercises as a jumping-off point. However, I did like the personal anecdotes of her life, and I think she would certainly be an interesting person to meet and have a conversation with.
All in all, however, I was greatly reminded of Luisah Teish's JUMBALAYA, and Teish's book is the one I preferred. I would suggest reading that instead.
Enough Ideas to Keep You Going into Your Wild Old Age.......2000-07-13
Creativity defines our individuality, it's not an unnecessary decoration, like too many bows on a dress. Of course it's in writing, painting, music; it's also in baking a cake, building a distribution system for auto parts, or talking to your cat, and it's in the choices we make in books or music or bed sheets. You're already creative, whether you admit it or not, or even if your grade school grammar teacher wanted you dead. Writing doesn't have to be the goal here, the idea is to use writing to brain-storm your mind and get it to open, and then turn it to any creative endeavor. Ms. Gray's book has enough muscle and exercises to drag something out of you. Even mundane results can provide joy, and you might just create something extraordinary that may, just for a moment, let someone transcend the ordinary world.
One note of caution, some of the exercises tended to get me reminiscing about every dreary thing that ever happened to me. Writing for therapy leads inward and can mire me in self-pity. It may be healing, but creativity expects you to move beyond the pathos and into a larger world where it is the therapy itself.

Book Description
'Spiritual' dialogues usually aim to guide the seeker towards enlightenment, towards escape from identification as a suffering individual. In Being: The Bottom Line, however, Nathan Gill points out that 'enlightenment' only appears significant from the viewpoint of 'me' - it's only the story of 'me' that requires enlightenment. Your true nature is Being, and Being is already all that is (even when there is seeming ignorance of that), with no requirements whatsoever.

Supurb.......2007-04-10
Nathan Gill is quite simply the most consistant, non wavering, "never steps on his own toes" author one could find on this subject. He never gets off track. It seems as if most other authors on this subject tell us that "There is nothing you can do to "attain" this state, but just do this or do that and you might make it" or they tell is that even though there is "no one home", we torpedo "ourselves" by seeking. That sounds non sequitor to me. I digress. Nathan is clear and relatively easy to understand. "if you understand the subject at all"
Byzantium.......2007-02-10
This book possibly expresses the author's thoughts, even understanding, with some accuracy. But to someone who is not already familiar with the point-of-view being expressed it is totally useless. It is easy enough to claim some sort of affiliation with Ramana Maharshi, but presenting the view of reality that Ramana enjoyed, described and promoted is a different matter altogether. This writer seems to relish riddle mongering. He assumes an air of authority, of greatly superior wisdom and insight, but anyone accustomed to reading the prose of genuine essayists, like George Orwell, for example, will find this writing similar to an act of sexual intercourse where one of the participants is entirely imaginary.
The end of the line.......2006-05-24
If you've really had enough of seeking, this is the book for you. With precision and clarity Nathan Gill devalues the whole business of liberation, awakening, enlightenment, to reveal simply what is. If there's a 'me' around, that's OK. If there's not a 'me' around, that's OK too. It's not necessarily blissful, it's not necessarily pleasant - but what a relief.
Being is already the case.......2006-04-05
Being is a great word. Awareness and oneness (also good words) have more of a thing-ness about them, but being evokes BE-ing, alive-ness. This book is about the expression of being, of THIS alive-ness that is already the case.
`Being: the bottom line' is comprised of one to one dialogues (forty) compiled from meetings and correspondence. Nathan's approach is earthy, direct and precise, free from jargon and posturing. Throughout the book Nathan demonstrates that he is well equipped (and unafraid) to tackle some of the deeper and more complex themes that arise - but always with a lightness of touch and an ability to cut through any temptation towards metaphysical meandering.
It's these factors of directness and depth (an approach which Nathan shares with his mate, Leo Hartong) which help to give the book it's authentic and timeless quality.
Our true nature is always being. Whether there is ego identification or not - being is already the case (and that's the bottom line!)
Book Description
Crystal Manyfeathers is caught between two worlds: her life at a modern American high school, and her life with the Dineh, her Navajo people, where spiritual ceremonies and traditions prevail. In deference to her father, Crystal prepares for her upcoming womanhood ceremony. But days before it starts, a valuable rug Crystal has been weaving for the event is mysteriously stolen. Her best friend Henry believes the theft is punishment for Crystal's stubborn refusal to weave in the spirit line, a required tribute to the Navajo goddess Spider Woman. Despite their spiritual differences, Crystal and Henry launch a bold and dangerous search for the rug. Will they find it in time? And will Crystal at last learn to be at peace with her Navajo identity?

Good Intro to Navajo culture for 5-8th Graders.......2007-03-09
This book has realistic characters, a good mystery, and does a really excellent job of introducing 5th to 9th graders to Navajo culture in a non-boring and non-lecturing way. My daughter and I read the book together in the evenings, and it was so interesting to her that she was finding excuses to head up a bit early. I really hope the authors consider writing another book for children this age.
Review for the Spirit Line- by a kid.......2007-02-23
This book was not very good, I personally thought. I wouldn't waste my time reading it. I had to read it for my school's Battle of the Books. While my peers enjoyed it, I hated it. The book was soo draggy and kept on repeating itself. It sounded so much like how the elementary school teachers taught you how to write. Not a very good plot either, besides the part when Crystal's (the main character) rug got stolen, but I think we all got the point when they kept on the repeating that part for like half of the book (it's true!). Not something worth spending your money on. Not much of a mystery either.

An inreresting overview of various Earth energies........2003-08-26
This was a very interesting book. Several forms of Earth energies are covered. There is an emphasis on the system of energy leys in Scotland. The author proposes that the ability to detect such energies is inherent in the human body. He used dowsing rods to follow the leys all over the Scottish countryside.
He found that many of the ancient megalithic monuments were a part of the ley system. Also, some caves, churches, etc. are also parts of it. He even notes that modern structures sometimes modify these ancient paths of energy.
The energies of these leys can also affect human mental states and body functions. This could explain some supposedly supernatural phenomenon.
I do not regret buying this book.
A powerful, metaphysical spiritual guide.......2003-08-09
Collaboratively written by David Cowan and Chris Arnold, Ley Lines And Earth Energies is a seminal and original guide to the energies of the Earth itself, and how those energies affect human health and well-being, as well as the effects such things have had in creating "sacred" places that simply feel special. A powerful, metaphysical spiritual guide to tapping into the infinite bounty of nature, and illustrated with black-and-white photographs and maps, Ley Lines And Earth Energies is a welcome and very special addition to metaphysics, geology, and Earth Studies.

A must manual for new palmists.......2005-11-30
I bought this book at a used book store when I was 11 years old. It was very comprehensive but still very easy to use and easy to understand. It covered everything from the most basic information to the more advanced and noteworthy details. Unfortunately when my mom found the book I was forced to give it up, but 9 years later I still remember most of what I learned from this book. I'm so thankful I finally found it, I'll never give it up again! This is a must have manual - pun intended
Great for Beginners.......2005-07-14
I bought this book from a used book store. You may think "well it must not be good if it's in a used book store" but I could see why some one would get rid of it. It's great for beginners, and it has lots of diagrams, so an advanced user might wish to sell it to get one more advanced. The best way to use this book is to write down each detail of your own hand and combine the facts revealed by your hand for better understanding. Flipping through it and comparing every line and quickly reading it isn't the way to learn so I could understand some one saying it is hard to comprehend.
Choose this one if you want to learn palm reading quickly........2001-01-24
I have looked at at least 20 books on palmistry and chose to buy this one. I like the way it is organized in categories and love the sample palm readiings. I think it is a great book especially for people new to palmistry.
A Waste of Money!.......2000-06-12
This is a horrible book. The explanation of the book is hard to understand. The pictures are limited, not a wide variety. You have your 5 basic hands, that's it. It doesn't give a clear answer. For a great book about palmistry that is easy to understand try "Instant Palm Reader". If you choose to buy this book...good luck!
Great book for beginners.......1996-06-18

It includes over 75 full color illustrations on virtually
every page, wtih color coded lines and sections for easy reference.
It also features question and answer panels and sample
readings of real people's hands. This book is definatly what
a person needs to introduce them to the practice of
palmistry in a quick and easy way.

I couldn't pick it up.......2001-12-28
I tried and tried to read this book, but it just didn't grab my interest. I wanted badly to like the book since it was written by a popular Unitarian Universalist minister, but I found it poorly written and not interesting.
Obviously other persons have a different view of this book, but I think it would be helpful if you read some of the pages available online before purchasing this one. That should help give you an idea of whether or not the author's writing style and the subject matter impress you.
Timely Reading for the New Millenium.......2000-01-01
Life Lines offered an abundance of information and perspectives that are quite timely for all of us as we enter the new millenium. We are offered the opportunity for introspection and self-evaluation of our moral, ethical and spiritual fabric. Most importantly, it offers us hope that we can evolve in spite of and in celebration of our humaness.
Wonderful, moving experiences of a skilled pastor.......1999-09-29
In Lifelines, the Harvard Divinity School-educated senior minister of New York City's All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church relates moving stories from his work in pastoral care, and offers a "guide for the perplexed".
I recommend this book highly to anyone looking for insights into the conondrums and common miseries of daily life.

Practical and insightful afirmations for the real world........1998-08-04
Joyce Strum's "Love Lines" offers a practical introduction to the concept of the affirmation as a tool for self help. The affirmations in Love Lines relate easily to the world most of us live in, dealing as they do with the sources of much unhappiness that people face in their lives. Issues such as parents/dysfunctional families, body image, career, motivation and self-worth are dealt with through affirmative statements that help to center the thoughts and emotions (we are what we think we are). Ms. Strum avoids the cloying "New-Ageiness" that afflicts many self-help texts, that distances most readers who do not subscribe to that way of looking at the world.
To sum up, a good and useful book which, faithfully used, can help heal its reader.
