Customer Reviews:
Only Covered the First 15 Episodes.......2005-09-08
I bought this hoping to answer some questions on this amazingly complex series. Well, it only covered the first 15 episodes. So, I did not have any of my questions answered. Bumper! On the plus side, it did have some nifty illustrations, and it did summarized the plot up to episode 15.
Now I probably have to buy that movie that comes with that box and 52-page booklet. I think that that booklet may have the information I needed.
A great, translated anime art book!.......2004-02-25
The art of RahXephon, if anyone has seen the series, is obviously top notch. And it is distilled and published here. For anyone who loves the art in the series, this book is perfect. They display characters, colors, backgrounds and props with some description.
For those who couldn't make it through the less then adequate story and writing of the series, this book is ALL you need. I sat through the anime knowing I would treasure the book far after the DVDs had collected a thick layer of dust.
An interesting look into Rahxephon's World.......2003-11-28
Rahxephon, a series that is constantly being compared to Evangelion rather unfairly, boasts strong characters, wonderful artwork and an intriguing, if not easily grasped plot. Even by the penultimate volume the series plays its cards close to its chest, revealing little of the grand scheme of things until the end. This level of mystery is a hallmark of this style of science fiction, and while a lot of people find it fun, some will no doubt find it frustrating.
Enter, the Rahxephon Bible, a book any fan of the series should seriously consider buying. It serves two purposes, as a gallery for the series' wonderful art, and as a guide to several of the plot details. What is odd is that the plot guide (Or more accurately "Mysteries" guide) stops at the 15th episode. So those looking to find an overview of the entire series won't find it here, there are no views presented of the end. So perhaps that is a good thing for those who haven't seen the entire series but still want to get their hands on some Rahxephon merchandise, but as it has many spoilers up to and including episode 15, I would recommend it for people at least halfway through the series, as half the fun of the show is seeing the great plot twists develop.
This book reads from right to left like a Japanese book would and the entire volume is full color with illustrations on every page. The pages are glossy and thick, and the book is sturdy. The first few pages are full page illustrations, wonderful paintings that are very well printed. Then there is a graph of the many character interactions, and following that is a substantial informative essay on the world of Rahxephon, exploring the background of the world's various aspects and even offering up some scientific explorations. After that is an episode-by-episode guide to all the very minor clues littered through the series, offering insight on things like offhand comments or visual elements that have a deeper meaning. This section is very informative, even to someone like me who had viewed most of the episodes several times. Following that is a guide and picture gallery for each of the characters, with a short biography, another area where the art really shines. Then a guide to the technology of the series, like the mechas, and finally a lot of interesting information on the talent behind the series.
Overall, this book is a great complement to the series, and while it may not cover absolutely everything a die-hard fan would want, it more than satisfies. Well worth it.

Better or worse?.......2005-08-01
For those of you that have seen the anime and like it, be warned that the manga seems to be nothing like the anime, save for the names, and a little bit of looks.
The manga series is only 3 long, and seems to focus more on "upskirt" shots, more than anything, to me. And the storyline does tend to go off on a tangent from the anime series. But overall, I believe this to by a fairly okay manga by itself.
Just don't mix it up with the anime.
A RahXephon fan's opinion........2005-06-24
Much like it's animated counterpart, RahXephon is a excellent example of Japanese storytelling and will appeal to any sci-fi or romance fan. Although the two mediums share the same name, the manga does not follow the exact same story as the animated series. Not only is the storyline a little different but personalities of all the characters have changed, some for the better and some for the worse. Unfortunately this manga series is only three volumes long so whether you love the new style of the story or not, you will only have a coupe hundred pages to read. Because this is a condensed retelling of a 26 episode show not all the characters from the anime play a big part in the manga.
The story in the manga really only involves the core story elements; the RahXephon, The Mu, Ayato our main protagonist, and the women he falls in love with and love him. Ah the women....since this is a Japanese magna made for young adults (16+) you will find a certain amount of fan service in this title, especially in this first volume. Rather than seem totally out of place, the fan service acts as a reminder that this is just a normal teenager thrust into extraordinary circumstances. The eye candy also serves as a nice break in the story when it becomes a little tense or serious, and the story does get very emotional and compelling. All of this is told in three volumes filled with some of the best artwork I have seen in a manga title. The art style is very typical of modern day manga but the quality is outstanding and the quality never falters.
Bottom line? If you love the animated series, you will also love the magna. As a fan of the series I found the new little insights about the main story line to be absolutely captivating and although its just a condensed retelling of the anime, it is still exciting and fresh to read. A fine read and easily worth your $10 ($30 for all 3 books). My grade is 5/5

ARE YOU STILL MY GIRLFRIEND?.......2006-08-14
Ayato still hasn't decided where his allegiance truly lies: His now discredited home of Tokyo Jupiter where his friends and mom still reside, or with Terra and the rest of the Earth. Rising above all these conflicts is the overwhelming desire to protect Reika, his adopted sister. When his girlfriend Hiroko shows up in a group of Tokyo Jupiter refugees, quite a strain is put on Ayato and Reika's relationship. When Reika is struck down by a mysterious ailment, Ayato learns that the information that can save her can only be found in Tokyo Jupiter. But Terra isn't just going to let him cakewalk away and return Mu's ultimate weapon, Rahxephon!
While Volume 1 of this manga adaptation focused a bit too much on fanservice, Volume 2 takes all the good elements of the anime and puts them into a format that also helps you understand the anime a little better. For example, to me the Mu's origins were never really explained in my mind, but here we do get a bit more background on where they came from, and also Ayato's true nature. While the storyline is a bit different here, I had no problem reconciling it with the anime. In fact, I enjoyed it just the same. While Momose's art is still a bit unimaginative, I guess I became used to it and it didn't bother me as much as Volume 1. The story is what made it great.
