I'm Back for More Cash: A Tony Kornheiser Collection .......2007-02-14
This is a must read for anyone who will have teenagers, has teenagers or ever had teenagers. Laugh out loud book, proves TK can talk about something besides sports..
The names and events may be somewhat outdated,,,,.......2005-12-11
but the humor certainly is not in Tony Kornheiser's, "I'm Back For More Money". The material in this book comes from collections of some of Kornheiser's best columns from the Washington Post. Kornheiser's ascerbic wit is at it's best in "I'm Back...". He rants on everything from the battles he has with his teenage children to national politics. A lot of sport topics are thown in but, most of the material comes from Kornheiser's "Style" column and not from "Pardon The Interruption"-type (PTI) topics.
I don't often find myself laughing out loud while reading a book, but I did many times as I progressed this fast-reading book. It's light and entertaining reading that would be great for the airport or the beach (or anywhere in-between). If you're a fan of Tony's writing or his work on ESPN's PTI, then do yourself a favor and grab a copy of this book!
Laugh out loud funny.......2005-03-01
I have been reading Mr. Tony's columns in the Washington Post sports section for years and always found them very amusing. However I did not read the Style section and had no idea he even wrote articles for anything other than the Sports section.
After listening to his radio show for a few weeks I really started to understand that TK was extremely talented and really brilliantly funny. I decided to get this book for my wife who had also become a huge Satchmo fan and it was a big hit. I was reading a real book (not a compilation of newspaper columns) and I had to leave the room because my wife was laughing so hard reading Mr. Tony.
At least two or three times each article there is a moment where you just laugh out loud. Not a grin or giggle, but a laugh that makes you lose your spot in the book. And then there are tender moments as well when Tony loses a family member or speaks of his childhood and camp. The combination makes this book (compilation) wonderful and a great read for any age.
Tony Kornheiser at his funniest.......2005-02-21
I tend to agree with G. Gordon Liddy, who refers to the Washington Post as the Washington Bleep. I will make exception for Tony's articles.
I became familiar with Kornheiser on his now defunct radio program. He started out as a sports columnist, but he branched out into writing a "Style" column. This book is a collection of his "Style" columns. Those columns are comparible to (and better than, in my opinion) Dave Barry.
The editors have placed the columns into six categories, and even in these categories, they are placed in a thematic order. To me, this is the major weakness of this collection; I would find a pot-pouri approach more entertaining.
Another negative to this book, in my opinion, is a couple of sections of irreverant political humor. He has one section on the 2000 election, and another on Clinton's impeachment. I know from the radio program that Kornheiser is more liberal than I am, but he shows no favorites in his jabs. However, I do not like this form of humor regardless of the target or the writer.
So why did I give this book four stars? Because it is hilarious. The weaknesses are not reasons not to buy this book. If you are familiar with Pardon The Interuption on ESPN, you will see what Tony is like, and if you like Tony, you'll like this book.
One last comment -- there are touching moments in this book as well, such as when he talks about losing a couple of relatives. Kornheiser is not just a humorist, he is a person. When he left his radio program, a person commented that he never wondered what Tony is like in real life, because it shows. It also shows in this book.
Old, fat, orange, bald..........2004-01-18
and incredibly funny. Tony strikes again with a collection of Washington Post Style columns on a wide array of topics from Clinton to south Florida retirees to the weatherman. A classic American literary piece its not, but for light, entertaining reading it wins out. Be careful where you read it - I laughed out loud on more than one occasion. Enjoy.
Book Description
It is the summer of 1916 and, as luck would have it, Otto is assigned to the nascent, unreliable, and utterly frightening Imperial and Royal Austro-Hungarian Flying Service. Ottto's aerial chauffeur is the self-willed Sergeant-Pilot Toth, with whom he can only communicate in broken Latin—although when all else fails, screaming will suffice! On the ground the rickety Habsburg Empire begins to crumble before the onslaught of WWI, while in the air Otto confronts a series of misadventures and the winds of change.

Otto Takes to the Air.......2007-08-28
John Biggins' books dealing with the character, Otto Prohaska, have been a delight to read and this one is no exception. The conscientious Habsburg naval officer has served as a U-Boat commander, secret agent and almost savior of the Archduke Ferdinand in pervious installments. In this one, he takes to the air as a combat pilot. All of this would seem ludicrous to many serving officers but, Biggins makes it believable.
Part of the charm of these books is that the protagonist is a basically good guy. He is employed by a decaying empire teetering on the brink of collapse but still tries to serve as best he can. All too often, his efforts are thwarted by the agents of the bureaucracy.
Like the others, this is a fascinating book. It is not only enjoyable, it gives a glimpse of the reasons for the internal decay of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
biggins best to date.......2007-02-01
The third Otto Prohaska novel in John Biggins' acclaimed fictional series is a good deal better than his first; it is in fact excellent historical fiction. Biggins' character Otto Prohaska in this case covers the five months he spends in the Austro-Hungarian air force flying over the hellish Isonzo front with Italy, involved in photographic espionage and recon, desultory bombing runs, and various special tasks. Along the way he deals with incompetent and cowardly commanders, gallant and honorable (or not) foes and compatriots, the Emperor as well as mutineers, and all the fun and games of flying highly erratic and dangerous contraptions in every kind of weather.
Biggins has only gotten better at showing us the collapse of the venerable but decaying Empire, besieged from the outside and rotting from the inside. The languages, the regulations and meaningless red tape, the starvation and shortages caused by the war and the blockade - they are all there, presented with stark clarity and empathy. The horrors of war, constant suffering and death in causes both noble and less so, are another constant theme. In the end there remains some room for personal honor and even humor. One great quote which can summarize much of Biggins/Prohaska's viewpoint reads, "The truth of the matter is that two world wars were, for Europe, nothing but a vast experiment in negative Darwinism, in which the best died and the worst survived to breed."
Biggins has also done outstanding research on all types of WW1 aircraft, ships, weapons, etc., and the reader is amazed at the detail effortlessly presented in the book.
Of course for many readers the future WW2 will hover in the background as well; various characters in Biggins' account of the First carry within them the seeds of the very worst features of the Second, from the death camps, racism and nationalism, to wholesale bombing of civilians and the destruction of entire cities.
Biggins' characters are better and more fully drawn, the story lines hangs together better, the dialogue is tighter and the situations are all more interesting than in A Sailor of Austria. For current historical fiction, The Two Headed Eagle is an outstanding read and highly recommended.
Otto Prohaska in the air.......2007-01-10
This is the third in the series that chronicle the adventures of Linienschiffleutnant Otto Prohaska of the Imperial Austro-Hungarian Navy around the time of the First World War. This book sees the hero attached to the KuK Armee's air service on the Italian Front in 1916, where he has to battle against various difficulties, including obsolete and under-maintained aircraft, a commanding officer obsessed with meaningless statistics, poor logistical support, the peculiarities of Austro-Hungarian bureaucracy, and the Italians. The author's research is impeccable, and the fictitious events in the book could have happened; they're all technically possible. The peculiarly horrible conditions on the Isonzo Front are well described, and remind the reader that conditions there were just as terrible as those on the Western Front.
The Two Headed Eagle is one of those books that has the reader eagerly turning the pages to follow the hero's adventures, but at the same time dreading the fact that the book is coming to an end. It's great stuff!

The text book for Hanen Project.......2006-11-10
This is the text book for the Hanen Project. Hanen is a course that parents of speech delay children can go through to learn to speak with their children. This book is an excellent guide to understanding how to get through to your child. The methods used are simple and successful. This book is best utilized with the Hanen course, but taking the course is not necessary. The book has helped me break into my childs world and now we can play and he can say some words. I highly recommend this book if you are unable to communicate with your child.

Customer Reviews:
Very interesting reading and great recipes.......2007-09-26
Judy Stone helps you understand the science behind food and our bodies and how they affect one another. One thing is for sure - you'll never touch margarine again after reading this book! Judy gives the reader a wealth of information in a very easy to read format and lots of fabulous recipes and menu plans to help the reader eat and feel better. I haven't tried all the recipes yet but so far my favorite is a toss up between the Italian Turkey Sausage and Tomato Stew and Spicy Meatball Mambo. This book needs to be in your kitchen.
A Fantastic Hidden Gem!.......2003-11-18
I happen to run across this book at my local bookstore- boy, was I glad! The information is insightful, sound and useful. I found the writing style so easy to read- it is more like you are having a conversation with the author.
I wish this book was getting more press. It may not be the flashy kid on the block but this is information you need, written with integrity and up to the minute nutritional information.
I also tried several of the recipes which were great!
Order it today and tell a friend, you won't regret it.
Renewed Health.......2003-05-14
Before reading Take Two Apples and Call Me in the Morning, I was recovering from heart surgery and had gained fifty pounds. I tried to follow a low-fat diet, but I was always hungry for a carbo binge, and was on the verge of gaining more weight. Low energy, poor sleep, aching joints, and itchy skin made me miserable and grouchy. What a revelation this book was! Adding fat in the form of olive oil, butter, and flax oil to my diet, eliminating wheat/sugar products, and eating protein with veggies for meals and snacks was the key to improved health. Judy Stone clearly and thoroughly instructs the reader to throw out the legalism of all those other "diets" and to eat the food your body needs to heal itself and maintain health. Do you want strong bones, supple skin, strong hair and nails, energy, a feeling of not being hungry between meals? Get this book.

A different low-carb book.......2003-05-14
I've read many of the low carb books (Atkins, Eades, Heller, Zone etc.) and this one is different. First, it's got lots of health info that the others don't have or may only touch on. Second, it makes the science/medical stuff about the body super easy to understand and interesting to read. And third, it has a very positive, supportive tone for people who are trying to change, and lays things out in easy to follow steps instead of asking you to change everything at once. It also addresses the psychology of making changes and not just the food part. I'd recommend this book for anyone who was new to cutting carbs or an old hand at it. Also, it's got some great recipes--a great BBQ sauce, lots of main dishes that aren't heavy on the cream and butter, and others I haven't tried yet that look good. I'm a personal trainer and I've recommended this book to all my clients.
Enhanced with more than 100 recipes.......2003-02-09
Accessible written for the non-specialist general reader by Judy Stone (a former psychotherapist who has become an experienced and knowledgeable nutritionist), Take Two Apples And Call Me In The Morning: A Practical Guide To using The Power Of Food To Change Your Life! is a straightforward and "user friendly" guide to understanding and meeting the nutritional needs of one's body, while debunking myths and offering solid, reliable advice to eating a balanced diet, limiting artificial stimulants such as caffeine, developing delicious menu plans that benefit overall health, and much more. Enhanced with more than 100 recipes, Take Two Apples And Call Me In The Morning is very highly recommended reading for anyone seeking to alter their eating patterns and habits for the better.
Customer Reviews:
Interesting sci fi erotica, well written.......2007-01-05
I've read all of Evangeline Anderson's books, and she never fails to turn out an entertaining read, whatever the genre. But I think she really excels at sci fi. She describes worlds that are believable and complete, and somehow manages to do this without needing to fill hundreds of pages of description. Her characters are well rounded, their motivations understandable, and that, for me at least, is terribly important. "Take Two" is no exception. The two male characters (don't think I'm giving away any secrets or spoilers if I say it's a menage - that's pretty obvious from the blurb) are well drawn, and each a perfect foil for the other. I like Sadie, the heroine, though sometimes I wished she could see past her upbringing - but then again, aren't we all hampered by said upbringing? Her hesitation is far more believable than if she'd just abandoned everything in favour of a hot affair. She'd never have been able to reconcile it afterward, I don't think. But that's just me. :-) That being said, when they did get together, the sex scenes fit in pretty well with the rest of the plotline (something I can't say about all erotica) and, in spite of what another reviewer said, I found them plenty steamy and not boring at all! My only complaint is, I really wish the book had been longer, as some parts felt a bit rushed.
In short, if you want a book that gives you a solid background storyline, as well as very hot erotica, this is a good choice. If you enjoy it, I highly recommend this author's other work - especially another of her sci fi books, "Pleasure Planet". That, IMHO, is even better.
HOT HOT HOT !.......2006-12-13
I have read some of Evangeline Anderson's work infact I just finished Ceremony of Three... And I have started to read Take Two her books are wonderful and very very hot. I would recommend her books to anyone who likes alittle spice in there diet.
TAKE TWO? Yes, please..........2006-12-13
As an author of erotic fiction, I envy Evangeline Anderson's writing style. She can make you weep, make you laugh, and make you HOT. I love all of her books, but TAKE TWO is one of my favorite reads. If you like Thea Devine, Robin Schone, Jaid Black, or Lora Leigh, you will adore Evangeline Anderson.
Boring!.......2006-12-12
This book was beyond boring. It was definitely more sci-fi oriented than erotic. It took forever for any action to start, and when it did, it wasn't told with any detail. If you are into the menage a trois fantasy, don't waste your time or money on this thing.
New review from German site for Take Two.......2006-11-07
Now that Take Two is out, I'm getting all kinds of good reviews for it. I got four stars from RT magazine and five cups from Erotic Romance. But I think my favorite review so far comes from the German romance journal, Loveletter. This was forwarded to me by a friend who wrote and translated the review from German into English. I think you'll find it doesn't lose a bit in the translation
Erotica/Futuristic
Evangeline Anderson
Take Two
In search of a professional challenge, fledgling reporter Sadie Thomas decides to leave the Earth colonies. On a Saturn mining colony she poses as a cybernetic prostitute, in hope to thusly gain better insights about the intergalactic sex industry. However, she didn't anticipate meeting Detectives David Blakely and Christian Holstein, who are investigating undercover some dishonest machinations. Henceforth, the newly founded ménage à trois not only surrenders to sensual challenges but also has to fight against unforeseen dangers...
The formerly with e-publisher Liquid Silver Books released story Take Two by Evangeline Anderson offers an entertaining reading time for fans of futuristic stories combined with plenty of sex scenes. Sadie, David and Christian make a nice trio, differently characterized, but without missing popular characteristics, they take the reader into a world full of sex & crime. Evangeline Anderson's forte is definitely to pen erotic love scenes and to create intensive characters. The newly built universe supports the advancement of the suspense part with its invented conditions and rules; however it should be mentioned that the main focus lies unquestionably on the relationship and sex scenes.
Katharina for the
German romance journal LoveLetter.
Isn't that great? I love a review that makes me smile and this one is definitely unique. : ) Evangeline

A gift for all New Yorkers.......2006-06-05
I've lived in New York City for ten years, and just when I thought I'd done/seen it all, along comes this great book! I just completed my first hike outlined in "Take a Hike: New York City" yesterday (in the Ramapo Mountains of New Jersey) and I'm hooked. I carried the guide with me and - being a novice hiker - found that all the detail was perfect and wise. And it's smartly written as well with a bit of humor! I might last another ten years in New York now that I've been introduced to another facet of the city I call home.

Serious Hikes for Serious Walkers.......2006-03-13
Los Angeles has a lot of neat countryside to explore if you know where to look. When I first came to the LA basin from Idaho, I was overwhelmed by the suburban sprawl, but I quickly found lots of nice outdoor experiences nearby. This book will help anyone else looking to escape the city for a few hours (or days). It features over 80 hikes all within 2 hours of LA.
I've hiked about a third of the trails described in this guide and all are nice. With time off in April, I expect to explore more. By way of a warning though, you will need to be reasonably fit to do many of these hikes. Most are 5 to 10 miles long, often with substantial elevation gain. Several are shorter, but a few are quite challenging. Happily, the authors also provide options for shortening (and sometimes lengthening) your walks. The bulk of the hikes listed are in the San Gabriel Mountains and Santa Monica National Recreation Areas. A few selections from Orange County, Palos Verde and Catalina Island round out the book. On the whole, this book is an excellent investment in fun and exploration.

Helpful.......2006-06-20
Good book, easy to read and follow -- but also a quick read available at the public library!! I was thinking it might be worth picking up a copyy for keeps but wow, I can't believe how much sellers are charging here!
Practical, Encouraging, Useful for Non-Delayed Kids Too.......2006-04-29
This book assumes that parents want to know how to talk to their children in ways that will encourage speech development in the kids and communication in general. It is well-written, accessible, encouraging and positive in tone, it gives practical information in case you have worries, and it gives concrete activities and examples. They probably ought to hand it out as you leave the hospital.
Practical Advise & Everyday Strategies You Can Actually Use!.......2004-02-09
My b/g twins had developed a significant delay (partly due to "twin-talk") by age 2. This was the 1st book our speech therapist gave us, and it was a LIFESAVER! Not only did it reassure me that we could overcome this delay, but it gave such practical advise, with tons of examples of how to apply them to our everyday routine.
It starts off with an overview of "what to expect" at different skill levels, and what you can do to encourage growth to the next level. Also how to adapt to your child's individual personality so that s/he is getting the most out of the experience.
A key theme in the book is how to truly COMMUNICATE with your child, not just talk, so that the child is receiving a geniune benefit that encourages them to keep trying to improve their skills. Things like eye contact, non-verbal cues, taking turns (allowing your child to lead), etc. with real-life examples of how to apply it. Changing the way you, as a parent, interact with a speech-delayed child can have a dramatic impact on their progress.
The tone is very reassuring and encouraging throughout, and I felt much more empowered to actively participate in my twins' speech development because I now had the confidence and practical tools I'd been looking for!
(BTW--the twins have made about 12 mos (developmentally) progress in the 6 mos since I've read this book!)
It Takes Two.......2000-06-03
This is the best guide for parents to learn how to encourage their children to communicate. It explains different ways to establish a special bond between parent and child. It explains how children learn to communicate and ways to help your child through this learning process. Examples of games for fun and learning, music activities, art activities, and even a booklist of wonderful books for children to read are given in this book. This book is wonderful for parents, teachers, and all caregivers of children.
