5 out of 5 stars Must Read Book.......2007-10-17

This is my absolute favorite book and I cant wait until Meyer comes iut with "breaking dawn".
In the book the main character, Bella, has been reunited with Edward.
This book is how it all plays out. In this book, unlike the other two, it tells a little from other peoples point of view aswell as Bella's.
Bella wants to be a vampire and had voted in the last book that carlisle should make her one after graduation. Edward doesnt give up hope though, still trying to convince Bella to wait and maybe go to college.
Their rival from another book has come to town and brought an army with her. She plans to trade a life for a life. This stirs up Bella's not so peaceful world with her best friend who loves her, Jacob, being a warewolf and Edward being a vampire.
In the book we delve into the history of other characters such as Jasper and Rosalina. As Bella comes to understand everyone she's becomes less and less sure of the promise she made to Edward.
In the final battle, though, when it comes time to choose she doesnt sway in her decision.
This is the series that you must read at least once in your life. Even if it means hiding under your covers with a flashlight! ;-D

5 out of 5 stars Fantasy isn't just for Young Adults !.......2007-10-17

I can sort of understand why this series of books (TWILIGHT, NEW MOON, ECLIPSE) is labeled for Young Adults. But I think it should be re-labeled for Young-at-Heart Adults. I'm 65 and I loved all three, without reservation! To answer the few criticisms I've read here, it's FANTASY, folks -- it's not supposed to be logical; these wonderfully created characters aren't supposed to behave perfectly or always make intelligent decisions. They're teenagers, for Pete's sake! And teenagers do whine, react emotionally most of the time, and have a tough time frequently making sensible choices.

These characters are wonderful; even the evil ones are fascinating. Vampires, werewolves, mind-readers, psychics, magic -- something for everyone who wants to escape into another world for a while! My only fear is that there won't be a 4th book, and we'll all be left wondering what happens to Bella, Edward and Jake. Stephenie Meyer has created characters I couldn't help falling in love with. If she doesn't write a 4th book, I'll never be able to get them out of my mind....... and maybe that's the point!

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous love story.......2007-10-17

I loved this book, my best friend loved it, my 13 year old son and his best friend loved it too! The whole series was wonderful, but Eclipse was my favorite. Action, adventure, romance, thrills, goofiness all around completely enjoyable.
Edward and Jacob turned out to be people who I will think about for years to come. And Bella's unquestioned love for Edward is almost overwelming. I want a 4th book!

4 out of 5 stars NOW things are starting to get interesting!.......2007-10-17

Bella is nearing graduation, which, if she has her way, will also coincide with the end of her humanity. However, the closer that time draws near, the less confident she is about her decision: Is it too soon? What sorts of things does she want to have a chance to experience while still human? Complicating matters are signs that Victoria, the vampire with a lethal vendetta, is coming back for her.

Wow! I was surprised to enjoy 'Eclipse' so much since 'New Moon' didn't grab me as much as the first book in the series, 'Twilight,' did. Now things are really getting interesting in the relationship department!

3 out of 5 stars This book was well written.......2007-10-16

I loved the back stories of the Cullen family and the history of Jacob's heritage of how the werewolves came to be. The plot with Victoria was a little predictable, but satisfying to me. I live to figure out plots before the ending. The day to day life of Bella is always an appealing feature in these books. Stephenie is always great at capturing the teenage angst and mentality of her age. Although... I feel that these books are read mainly for the relationship issues Bella has with the men in her life, and that is the problem I had with this book. Jacob does a lot of asinine things in this book, and Bella keeps going back to him, forgiving him (where I couldn't). While I realize that some girls like the "bad boys", I believe she has her hands full with Edward. By Bella riding the fence so long in this book, it made her look contrite and fickle. I lost any identification and likability of the charater. It was a little too reminiscent of the Anita Blake series for me, personally. I was also really dissapointed with the epilogue, as I feel that it didn't really do the job of an epilogue. I also would have appreciated a little more action. I am not excited about the fifth book in the Forks series, but I am looking forward to the Sci-fi and Midnight Sun book she's got coming out soon. Also, if you missed reading Tino Georgiou's masterpiece--The Fates, go and read it. While I'm near the end, I'm reading it at a rapid pace because it's so addictive. There is something about his books that bring you in and get you hooked. and I'm loving this one.

5 out of 5 stars Captivating.......2007-10-17

The Twighlight series is "G" rated for all ages, it is very captivating and well written. I am 33 years old, single mom and I loved it, my son who is 13 is reading it now and he loves it. I have to agree with the rating of New York's Bestseller List...this is a must read trilogy..I can't wait to see what she writes next.

5 out of 5 stars Twilight Book Series.......2007-10-17

I love these books. I can't say enough good things about these books. I'm 24 years old and these books are intended for teens, however, they are a great story for just about anyone - any age. My friends got me started on book one - Twilight. I was hooked. I read the book in about 5 days. (for me that's a big deal, I'm not really a reader) Book two, New Moon, took me a little longer. After falling in love with the characters in book one, they go through some terrible times in book two. This book two, New Moon, pulls at all of your heart strings. I could really feel all the pain and suffering these characters were going through.

If you like love stories, if you like action, if you like comedy, and if you like vampires and werewolves - These are the books for you. Most people push the book away when they hear me speak about vampires and werewolves - don't. I know people who want nothing to do with vampires and werewolves - but LOVE these books.

Trust me, they're addicting.=)
Thanks Stephanie Meyer!

5 out of 5 stars Incredible, astounding, breathtaking, dazzling... absolutely MAGICAL. .......2007-10-16

There aren't enough words to describe the impact this book has on a person. It was every bit as sensational as Twilight. I must warn you before you begin reading this book that Eclipse (the next book in the series) won't be coming out until 2007. After reading the last page you'll understand my warning. If I had one wish in the world it would be that Stephenie Meyer published Eclipse tomorrow. I know most people feel the same way because I have yet to find a person who hasn't enjoyed this series as much as I have. This book, like Twilight is extremely unique. It is very hard to explain the way you feel while reading, I can only say that it allows you to comprehend every aspect of human emotion. I can say the same thing for very few books, if I had to describe New Moon in a sentence I would have to say... Painful to put down and utterly heartbreaking to finish. Also, if you missed reading Tino Georgiou's masterpiece--The Fates, go and read it. While I'm near the end, I'm reading it at a rapid pace because it's so addictive. There is something about his books that bring you in and get you hooked. and I'm loving this one.

1 out of 5 stars Author should condense Twilight, New Moon & Eclipse into one book.......2007-10-15

Twilight made me crave more. So, I purchased New Moon. Much to my dismay the wording is extremely flowery. I wish Ms. Meyer would just say exactly what she wants to say straight to the point and not repeat the same old stuff over and over again. Honestly, there's a lot of pages though it doesn't say much. I think it could have been very easily condensed into one book with Twilight and Eclipse.

3 out of 5 stars Not Bad But . . ........2007-10-15

While I was reading this book, I liked it, until I got done with it and realized how much I didn't care for the subject matter. If you're into fantasy (which I'm not) and vampire romance, then you'll love this. Otherwise, you'll be caught up in the action, and realize in the end that you fell for the hype.

2 out of 5 stars Fooled me again.......2007-10-19

Understand, Laurell K. Hamilton has been shuffled onto my list of "2 hour" writers along with R.A. Salvatore. This means that they were both writers that I once loved, but whose books have become so tragically dull that I no longer buy them. Instead, I go into a bookstore with a coffee shop, and I give them two hours to convince me that they have kickstarted themselves, and no longer write dull books. I've just given up on Salvatore. But I still keep hoping for Hamilton. I love the characters in her Anita Blake novels.

I must give Hamilton credit. I stopped buying her books after Obsidian Butterfly. Well, okay. I admit I bought Micah because I saw a used paperback. But I won't talk about that.

This book fooled me. The first 50 pages sounded like the old books. Nobody even had sex! Yay! So I plunked down the cash, and bought a paperback.

What followed was a long string of conversations about sex. Then, about 150 pages in, Anita starts having sex. And once she gets going, there is no stopping her. She beds Richard. She beds the Swan King. She beds the Rat King. She has lesbian dream sex. And then she talks about it. And talks about it.

The Harlequin, who are supposed to drive the action in this book, and give it a title, aren't so much present in the foreground. They are more like explosions in the background during a sex-driven 2-dimensional romance novel set against the backdrop of a war. You don't even see them until the last 50 pages of the book.

You'd think that her calling in Edward - one of my favorite characters in the Hamilton mythology - might salvage things, but the first time he runs off to fight something major, Blake falls unconscious and we only hear about it later. Retold in the third person.

I give this book two stars because it carries a few small moments of pleasure. The characters develop a little bit. Edward develops his relationship with his son, and Nathaniel grows as a character. But, like a good conversation in a loud dance club, most of this is lost against the thumpa-thumpa of the overwrought, neverending sex scenes. Hamilton is one of the few writers who makes me start flipping pages when clothes start coming off.

1 out of 5 stars Continuing the downward spiral.......2007-10-18

I'm going to make this quick. While this book is a little bit better than the last two or three, it's still almost complete drivel. The series has degenerated into a formula. Sex, argue, fight, sex, fight, argue, degrade Richard, sex, argue, argue, argue. And, the spelling errors, lack of continuity, and lack of attention to prior detail negated any possibility of salvation of the characters.

This series is doomed. Save your money. Anita died around the mid part of Book Eight. Todays Anita is not the heroine we loved and respected. And, if I wanted to read good porn, I would buy it. Titillation is one thing. Pointless porn is another. And this is BAD pointless porn being read by a Tijuana hooker. The whole fiasco makes my hair hurt.

5 out of 5 stars Can't get enough.......2007-10-18

I love Laurell's books and this was no exception. I am always amazed that she never gets stale. I was disappointed when this ended. I just wanted to keep reading and reading and reading...

3 out of 5 stars Always better when Edward is on the scene..........2007-10-16

While I am all for eroticism and metaphysical jargon, I purchase the Anita Blake series for the action and the supernatural detective work. I've been in purgatory the last few books while Anita slogs through her boy toys. Ms. Hamilton infuses enough plot to keep me buying the next book, but I would prefer some serious action and less angst.

When Edward is on the scene, it usually means less relationship BS and more plot. If that's what it takes, I would prefer an entire series based on Edward.

Otherwise, I hope Anita gets her ducks in a row quickly, so she can concentrate on being who she is: A kick-butt federal marshall & zombie raiser who solves crimes.

One last note: It's high time to kick Richard to the curb or make him a respectable character.

5 out of 5 stars Return to the Anita of old.......2007-10-06

Great story line with interesting crime investigation. still the the occasional steamy sex scenes. I am was a little worried after the most recent Anita offerings but I am once again eagerly awaiting the next novel.

"Softly he brushed my cheek, then held my face between his marble hands. 'Be very still,' he whispered, as if I wasn't already frozen. Slowly, never moving his eyes from mine, he leaned toward me. Then abruptly, but very gently, he rested his cold cheek against the hollow at the base of my throat."

As Shakespeare knew, love burns high when thwarted by obstacles. In Twilight, an exquisite fantasy by Stephenie Meyer, readers discover a pair of lovers who are supremely star-crossed. Bella adores beautiful Edward, and he returns her love. But Edward is having a hard time controlling the blood lust she arouses in him, because--he's a vampire. At any moment, the intensity of their passion could drive him to kill her, and he agonizes over the danger. But, Bella would rather be dead than part from Edward, so she risks her life to stay near him, and the novel burns with the erotic tension of their dangerous and necessarily chaste relationship.

Meyer has achieved quite a feat by making this scenario completely human and believable. She begins with a familiar YA premise (the new kid in school), and lulls us into thinking this will be just another realistic young adult novel. Bella has come to the small town of Forks on the gloomy Olympic Peninsula to be with her father. At school, she wonders about a group of five remarkably beautiful teens, who sit together in the cafeteria but never eat. As she grows to know, and then love, Edward, she learns their secret. They are all rescued vampires, part of a family headed by saintly Carlisle, who has inspired them to renounce human prey. For Edward's sake they welcome Bella, but when a roving group of tracker vampires fixates on her, the family is drawn into a desperate pursuit to protect the fragile human in their midst. The precision and delicacy of Meyer's writing lifts this wonderful novel beyond the limitations of the horror genre to a place among the best of YA fiction. (Ages 12 and up) --Patty Campbell

10 Second Interview: A Few Words with Stephenie Meyer

Q: Were you a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Angel? What are you watching now that those shows are off the air?
A: I have never seen an entire episode of Buffy or Angel. While I was writing Twilight, I let my older sister read along chapter by chapter. She's a huge Buffy fan and she kept trying to get me to watch, but I was afraid it would mess up my vision of the vampire world so I never did.

I don't have a ton of time for TV, and my kids get rowdy when I have on "mommy shows," but I do have a secret fondness for reality shows (the good ones, at least in my opinion). I always TiVo Survivor, The Amazing Race, and America's Next Top Model.

Q: What inspired you to write Twilight? Is this the beginning of a series? Why write for teens?
A: Twilight was inspired by a very vivid dream, which is fairly faithfully transcribed as chapter thirteen of the book. There are sequels on the way--I'm hard at work editing book two (tentatively titled New Moon) right now, and book three is waiting in line for its turn.
I didn't mean to write for teens--I didn't mean to write for anyone but myself, so I had an audience of one twenty-nine year old (and later one thirty-one year old when my sister started reading). I think the reason that I ended up with a book for teens is because high school is such a compelling time period--it gives you some of your worst scars and some of your most exhilarating memories. It's a fascinating place: old enough to feel truly adult, old enough to make decisions that affect the rest of your life, old enough to fall in love, yet, at the same time too young (in most cases) to be free to make a lot of those decisions without someone else's approval. There's a lot of scope for a novel in that.

Q: What is your favorite vampire story? Fave vampire movie?
A: I guess my favorite vampire story would be The Vampire Lestat, by Anne Rice, simply because it's one of the only ones I've ever read. I keep meaning to pick up Bram Stoker's Dracula, because I get asked this question so often and I should probably start with the classics, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Again, I'm afraid to read other vampire books now, for fear of finding things either too similar, or too different from my own vampire world.

Ack! I can't even answer the movie question. I can't remember ever seeing a single vampire movie, outside of clips from Bela Lugosi movies on TV. I don't like true horror movies--my favorite scary movies are all Hitchcock's.

Q: What other young adult authors do you read?
A: My favorite young adult author is L.M. Montgomery I also enjoy J.K. Rowling (but who doesn't?), and Ann Brashares. As a teen, I skipped straight to adult books (lots of sci-fi and Jane Austen), so I'm rediscovering the world of teen literature now.

Amazon.com's Significant Seven
Stephenie Meyer graciously agreed to answer the questions we like to ask every author: the Amazon.com Significant Seven.

Q: What book has had the most significant impact on your life?
A: The book with the most significant impact on my life is The Book of Mormon. The book with the most significant impact on my life as a writer is probably Speaker for the Dead, by Orson Scott Card, with Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier coming in as a close second.

Q: You are stranded on a desert island with only one book, one CD, and one DVD--what are they?
A: The CD is easy: Absolution by Muse, hands down. It's harder to give myself just one movie, but the one I watch most frequently is Sense and Sensibility--the one with the screenplay by Emma Thompson. One book is impossible. I'd have to have Pride and Prejudice, but I couldn't live without something by Orson Scott Card and a nice, thick Maeve Binchy, too.

Q: What is the worst lie you've ever told?
A: My lies are all very, very boring: "No, you really look great in hot pink!" "My children only watch one hour of TV a day." "I didn't eat the last Swiss Cake Roll--it must have been one of the kids." That's the best I've got.

Q: Describe the perfect writing environment.
A: It's late at night and the house is silent, but I'm still (miraculously) full of energy. I have my headphones in and I'm listened to a mix of Muse, Coldplay, Travis, My Chemical Romance, and The All-American Rejects. Beside me is a fabulous, and yet mysteriously low in calorie, cheesecake....

Q: If you could write your own epitaph, what would it say?
A: I'd like it to say that I really tried at the important things. I was never perfect at any of them, but I honestly tried to be a great mom, a loving wife, a good daughter, and a true friend. Under that, I'd want a list of my favorite Simpsons quotes.

Q: Who is the one person living or dead that you would like to have dinner with?
A: I'd love to have a chance to talk to Orson Scott Card--I have a million questions for him. Mostly things like, "How do you come up with this stuff?!" But, if he wasn't available, I'd settle for Matthew Bellamy (lead singer of Muse).

Q: If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
A: I'd want something offensive, rather than defensive. Like shooting fireballs from my hands. That way, you're really open to going either way--hero or villain. I like to have choices.

Montgomery I also enjoyJ.K. Rowling (but who doesn't?), and Ann Brashares. As a teen, I skipped straight to adult books (lots of sci-fi and Jane Austen), so I'm rediscovering the world of teen literature now. Stephenie Meyer's List of Books You Should Read Anne of Green GablesRomeo and JulietDragonflightTo Kill a Mockingbird The Princess BrideSee more recommendations from Stephenie Meyer Amazon.com's Significant SevenStephenie Meyer graciously agreed to answer the questions we like to ask every author: the Amazon.com Significant Seven. Q: What book has had the most significant impact on your life?A: The book with the most significant impact on my life is The Book of Mormon. The book with the most significant impact on my life as a writer is probably Speaker for the Dead, by Orson Scott Card, with Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier coming in as a close second.Q: You are stranded on a desert island with only one book, one CD, and one DVD--what are they?A: The CD is easy: Absolution by Muse, hands down. It's harder to give myself just one movie, but the one I watch most frequently is Sense and Sensibility--the one with the screenplay by Emma Thompson. One book is impossible. I'd have to have Pride and Prejudice, but I couldn't live without something by Orson Scott Card and a nice, thick Maeve Binchy, too.Q: What is the worst lie you've ever told?A: My lies are all very, very boring: "No, you really look great in hot pink!" "My children only watch one hour of TV a day." "I didn't eat the last Swiss Cake Roll--it must have been one of the kids." That's the best I've got.Q: Describe the perfect writing environment.A: It's late at night and the house is silent, but I'm still (miraculously) full of energy. I have my headphones in and I'm listened to a mix of Muse, Coldplay, Travis, My Chemical Romance, and The All-American Rejects. Beside me is a fabulous, and yet mysteriously low in calorie, cheesecake....Q: If you could write your own epitaph, what would it say?A: I'd like it to say that I really tried at the important things.I was never perfect at any of them, but I honestly tried to be a great mom, a loving wife, a good daughter, and a true friend. Under that, I'd want a list of my favorite Simpsons quotes.Q: Who is the one person living or dead that you would like to have dinner with?A: I'd love to have a chance to talk to Orson Scott Card--I have a million questions for him. Mostly things like, "How do you come up with this stuff?!" But, if he wasn't available, I'd settle for Matthew Bellamy (lead singer of Muse).Q: If you could have one superpower, what would it be?A: I'd want something offensive, rather than defensive. Like shooting fireballs from my hands. That way, you're really open to going either way--hero or villain. I like to have choices.

5 out of 5 stars "Twlight".......2007-10-18

I know the book is for young teens, my daughter got a copy from the library, I was curious to read it myself, so when I read one page I was hooked, it's as if I was pulled into the story myself, watching on the sidelines. I'm a middle aged woman and I loved this book, I have all three books now and waiting for more, Bella does things that you want to scream about, but keep in mind she is a teenager, and some girls can't handle attention from the opposite sex, which can make some girls do crazy things, so please keep a open mind and just enjoy the fantasy.(It is fiction after all) "Edward" I just love him and I don't mind being reminded of those golden eyes, it makes me week in the stomach to imagine him, the others are nice to imagine as well, the story takes me back to when I was a teen. I really hope new readers enjoy the characters and story line. :)

5 out of 5 stars Twilight.... such a good read!.......2007-10-18

I couldn't put this book down and ordered the other two in the series before I had finished it. Such a silly premise... vampires?... but the suspense was amazing and the characters were terrific. A great read!

5 out of 5 stars Thoroughly Entertaining!.......2007-10-18

It has been a while since I have read something that was so entertaining and refreshing and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think it is very well written and the characters are nicely fleshed out. Bella and Edward are such likeable characters that I was disappointed when I finally finished this book. Luckily I have two more to devour now. I highly recommend this book if you are looking for something entertaining and thrilling.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book! Can't wait to read the second!.......2007-10-17

My mother, who is a fifth grade teacher, gave this for me to read. At first, I was questioning why my mother was even reading it, but once I got past the first chapter, I could see why! This book is just not for young adults-it's for everyone who loves vampires and the like. READ IT!

5 out of 5 stars Quite honestly..........2007-10-17

...this the best book I've read in YEARS. My 22 yr old daughter was talking and talking about this book. So, finally, I decided to read it myself. Now keep in mind I'm 49 and no fan of science fiction.

But this book, this book keep me enthralled throughout. You'll fall in love with the characters Bella & Edward.

Take my advice, get all 3 books now and save yourself the trip back to the bookstore.

5 out of 5 stars Finally!.......2007-10-16

Finally, after a couple years reading new authors that were good but not great-I think I have a new favorite author, really. This was an amazing read. At first I was a bit put off by the term definintions in the first few page, but found I appreciated this later. I loved Wrath. I know he was a bit overwhelming, bossy all that, but it worked for me. Geez he was sexy as heck. All of the secondary characters are strong, sexy and show promise for many excellent future books. I was sorry we did not get to know more about Darius before......never mind don't want to spoil anything. The lessers are freaky and a new twist to the vampire slayers. Just read it. YOu'll be ordering the rest of the series. I know I did--and I admit I am picky, I don't give everything 5 stars. This one deserves it!

4 out of 5 stars A fun, stimulating read. .......2007-10-14

Vampires have long been symbols of power and sexuality, and the author of this series definitely takes this theme seriously! This is an interesting take on vampires and those who hunt them. The characters are interesting, compelling, and surprisingly believable. Themes of family, brotherly love, romantic love, honor, and loyalty really suck you in. The pop culture references (slang and music references) date the book, but it's still plenty entertaining. The sex scenes are really great! A lot of women (including myself) love a seriously physical, sexually aggressive guy.... and these male vampire characters are just that. Very hot. Love the whole series! I ordered and read them all within a two week period.

5 out of 5 stars Its better on the dark side.......2007-10-09

This book is the first in an excellent series. It is technically in the romance aisle (and let me tell you it is VERY explicit) but it leads with the vampire fantasy world and doesn't deviate an inch the whole way through. You will get sucked into the world of the brotherhood and wont be able to turn it down. I read the book straight through in a day and a half and then immediately went out and bought the rest. There is a solid story line and graphic-no-holds-barred sex that could be a cameo in basic instinct. I loved this book and I know you will too. J. R . Ward has the skills to draw you in with well defined characters that make you care about them, then blows your mind and makes you tingly with what goes on behind closed doors!

5 out of 5 stars Definately a Keeper!!!! One of my Absolute Favorites!.......2007-09-20

I have three words for you.....OH. MY. GOD!!!!!!I could not turn the pages fast enough. What an amazing series...amazing story....amazing book! I highly recommend this for anyone who likes Kenyon or Knight the writing and character development in this is a step above. If your thinking twice about buying this series, just buy it, you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!!.......2007-09-16

This is one of my all time favorite romance novels. Before meeting the Black Dagger Brotherhood, I had absolutely no interest in paranormal romance. I'd always seen the characters in other books of this genre as being creepy, to say the least. My sister forced me to read this book while on vacation.
WoW!! J D Ward's protagonists are so well-written, so engaging and have such gut-wrenching appeal, I was hooked after chapter 2. She has created a completely unique vampire culture - complete with language (each book has a "glossary of terms"), social traditions and even anatomical/biochemical details unique to her brand of vampire.
If you have never been a fan of this genre...please give this book and the others in the series a try. You will NOT regret it!!

Book Description

"You bitch, you killed me. You suck!"

Being dead sucks. Make that being undead sucks.

Literally. Just ask Thomas C. Flood. Waking up after a fantastic night unlike anything he's ever experienced, he discovers that his girlfriend, Jody—the woman of his dreams—is a vampire. And surprise! Now he's one, too.

For some couples, the whole biting-and-blood thing would have been a deal breaker. But Tommy and Jody are in love, and they vow to work through their issues. Like how much Jody should teach Tommy about his new superpowers (and how much he needs to learn on his own). Plus there's Tommy's cute new minion, sixteen-year-old goth girl Abby Normal. (Well, someone has to run errands during daylight hours!)

Making the relationship work, however, is the least of Jody and Tommy's problems. Word has it that the vampire who nibbled on Jody wasn't supposed to be recruiting any new members into the club. Even worse, Tommy's erstwhile turkey-bowling pals are out to get him, at the urging of a blue-dyed Las Vegas call girl named (duh) Blue.

And that really sucks.

Christopher Moore has done it once again. Plenty of laughs and Moore-isms. OMG what a fun book!

5 out of 5 stars The audio CD is truly entertaining........2007-10-09

You Suck on CD has made my last three days of commuting very enjoyable. The narrator has a wide range of characters and she is so funny with each that you will laugh out loud. Chris Moore has some pretty good one liners and you really get into the whole idea of what life would be like for a modern day vampire. Abby Normal is hilarious and her blog entries keep the story moving.

5 out of 5 stars 1st CM book and still my favorite.......2007-10-08

I just happened to pick this book up from the "employee recommendations" table. The first chapter had me nervous--as in, "oh, this is going to be horror/sci-fi with vampires insulting each other". And it is, which is why I was amazed that I couldn't put it down. I read it in 2 days.

I hadn't read BS Fiends before I read this (never even heard of Moore). Still I had absolutely no trouble following the story.(CM does a pretty good, but brief summarization of what's gone on up to that point.)

This book prompted me to buy every other book he wrote. And You Suck is still my favorite, almost entirely due to Abby Normal, the tragically perky goth minion/vampire wannabe. Her diary entries (kind of a dramatic, morose valley girl) are freaking hilarious. When she hooks up with Steve the Asian manga-hair science guy (who she decides should have a more fly name, like "foo dog"), she invents what is now my favorite word in the world: "endorken", as in, "Please do not further endorken yourself to me, Steve. I am interested in what's in your heart, not your studies.".

So unlike many of the reviewers here, I liked You Suck better, mostly because of Abby. My least favorite part was Blue the hooker. And I thought the old Vampire was actually funnier in Fiends (a cranky old vampire who has nothing to wear but some dead guy's neon yellow tracksuit--yeah, that's good stuff!). I also loved that both books were set in SF. Yeah, the ending was a bit lame, but it seemed obvious to me that it was a setup for another sequel. And i can't wait!

5 out of 5 stars OMG! awesome!.......2007-10-06

HI:D ok well i comment on other peoples comments on this book and have learned that i should have read some other book called 'bloodsucking fiends'? first and i will then i will reread this one---cuz like in ANOTHER persons review-i was lost for a couple of the chapters with no knowledge of things and really there were too many people and her kept adding new people and i felt like it was as if you turned on the tv in the middle of a movie and you had no clue what was going on. i had to reread a lot.the chapter titles were funny(especially chapter2:P ) and i LOVE Abby and her friend was funny too but she was my favorite and as another wrote-maybe they should have centered it around her journals.i loved reading her parts soo much and it was hilarious with the way she 'talked' like i do sometimes-escpecially the: "hes all.." "and im all.." HA!! i was a little worried it would suck from my previous flop (see other vamp book review) of a vamp book but after the little hurdles i really liked it and tell people to read it:D i am a fan now.and i must go get the other ones....oh! the ending was good and when i finished i truly went"wow......one of the best books ive ever read..". trying to read it at work takes time but ive been on my days off and finished it in 2 days:D Go Read IT!!!!:D(i love abby and the end--even the cat part was funny--almost leaked a part there!!! :X but really..good ending:D <3
im sorry i ramble and dont do the paragraph....lol i suck-ha!

5 out of 5 stars Funny & Entertaining!!.......2007-10-04

I hadn't heard of Christopher Moore until I stumbled upon a Borders Shortlist e-mail one day promoting the release of this book. It sounded kind of interesting so I remembered it and put it on my Library list. I finally decided to pick it up and took it with me on a business trip finishing it easily in one day flat. I haven't yet read his "prequel" novel, "Bloodsucking Fiends"(although I certainly intend to), but, thankfully, "You Suck" requires little foreknowledge of the characters thanks to the exposition provided in the book. As for the content, I found it to be a fun romp through the life of C. Thomas Flood as he struggles to adjust to being a vampire (thanks to his vampire girlfriend, Jody) and the additional complications that ensue when he accidentally turns a hooker that his wasted friends bring back with them from Vegas into a vampire who then turns some of his friends into vampires, an old vampire, who had previously turned his girlfriend, Jody, into a vampire and is seeking revenge against Flood for his previous defeat at his hands, and cops seeking to drive Flood and Jody out of town and stop the new spate of Vampire-related killings. The madcap action of the story is leavened by a vampire-obsessed goth girl named Abby whose pop culture-laden diary entries continue the narrative of the story from her own perspective. I thought that the book was quite humorous and witty and never seems to drag or slow down. This book would be quite translatable into a movie, especially if they cast Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite) for one of the roles (I keep thinking of him as "Lash" for some reason). The only major quibble I have with the story is how it ended (which won't be discussed here) but Moore, thankfully, leaves the story somewhat open-ended should he choose to revisit it at some point.

Book Description

Weddings are never easy. But when you're Vampire Queen Betsy Taylor, they can become downright deadly...

In the days leading up to The Big Day, Vampire Queen Betsy Taylor seems to have a full house and the wedding guests have yet to arrive. Along with her human buddies, there's a ghost, a werewolf, and a Fiend crashing at her place. And though her fiancŽ, Vampire King Eric Sinclair, conveniently disappears when the conversation turns to seating charts and flower arrangements, he does manage to make his oh-so-sexy presence known at other moments.

Cold feet are no surprise, especially with an undead groom. But when Sinclair truly goes missing-and not just to avoid wedding preparations-along with most of her friends and loved ones, Betsy is frantic. Alone and afraid for the fate of everyone she loves, Betsy can't trust anyone as she tries to find them and whoever is behind all the disappearances. And what happens next will shake the foundation of the vampire world forever.

4 out of 5 stars Strange edition in the series.......2007-10-08

This book, seems to wrap up many of the loose ends and bring in the Wyndham wolves. The problem is that this book just doesn't seem like it really wraps up many of the issues. Why does Betsy survive so much damage? What's with the librarian? Interesting, but I think I'll stick with paperback in the future.

5 out of 5 stars Undead and Uneasy.......2007-09-03

Betsy Taylor, the Queen of the vampires, is getting married to her wonderful Eric Sinclair. But all is not coming up roses.

There's the issue of the dress, since white doesn't exactly suit a vampire's coloring, her best friend is battling cancer and Sinclair is less than thrilled about helping with the wedding plans.

And then, things go really bad. Betsy's father and stepmother are killed in an accident, Sinclair disappears, as do several of her friends, and Betsy is left to plan the wedding by herself, and wonder where everyone is. Add in some visiting werewolves who are looking for a missing pack member and you've got a wedding that is to die for.

Despite the turmoil in the book, Undead and Uneasy was an interesting and entertaining read. I've always liked Betsy and the way she deals with things. This volume of the series allows her to grow and shows that, while she's a relatively young vampire, she's the queen, and not to be messed with.

Lovers of the Undead series will enjoy this latest installment as much as I did. Seeing Betsy come to grips with things was enlightening and entertaining. My only complaint would be that the yummy Sinclair wasn't around enough. Undead and Uneasy is a great addition to the Betsy series.

4 out of 5 stars Betsy grows up.......2007-09-02

Ms. Davidson has done it again. Betsy gets just what she wants, and then has to learn how to deal with it. Betsy actually grows up while dealing with the issues in this episode. Without giving away anything to do with the outcome of the story, I think it is safe to say that you should always be careful what you wish for. All in all a worthy edition to the series.

4 out of 5 stars Vampire Vows.......2007-08-13

Betsy Taylor, Queen of the Vampires, is down to the wire on the wedding plans; she has just two weeks to the big day and she has yet to pick out a wedding dress. Her groom isn't being very helpful, Sinclair feels that the wedding is unnecessary as the Book of the Dead already recognizes them as married. He is getting grumpy and Betsy and he are not getting along.

While she finalizes the plans she faces one of her biggest obstacles to date. Unfortunately when Betsy needs everyone the most, no one is there for her; everyone has disappeared, leaving the Queen of the Vampires alone. Betsy is forced to fend for herself for the first time since she woke up Undead.

The best part of this book to me was the visiting Werewolves. While Betsy struggles through her days solo, we get an unexpected visit from Antonia's Werewolf family, the Wyndhams. The initial meeting between Betsy, Michael, Jeannie, Lara and Derik, was hilarious and fun. I hope they make a habit of appearing as I have missed them.

While I enjoyed this book, I couldn't love it like I have all the other Undead books. With Betsy's eclectic entourage MIA, the story was missing a lot of the laughs and action each of them usually draw. I really felt the void each character's absence left.

The ending was a bit anticlimactic to me and I couldn't help muttering "duh!" when Betsy finally put the pieces together. There was also a bit of unfinished business; Derik has an odd reaction to BabyJon and we never find out why. This is still very good read but not quite the great read I am used to by Ms. Davidson or this series. I gave this a 4 star rating, but I would say it is more 3 ½ stars.

5 out of 5 stars This book ROCKS!!!!.......2007-10-17

I love a good romance. This book has a nice mix of mythology, vampires, and romance. This book was so well written that I could not put it down. Thank god I purchased the second book. I read this book in a little over a day and can't wait for book three to become available.

3 out of 5 stars A Hunger Like No Other.......2007-09-19

Although I found this book to be enjoyable, it did not require or engage my entire attention. I was able to read it at work between calls and was able to keep up with what was happening. This book to me seemed to drag at times and at other times moved along. I am not yet certain if it is going to stay in my collection or be passed on. I have not yet started the second book in the series although I will read it and have purchased the third book. It just did not reach out and grab me.

4 out of 5 stars So So.......2007-09-14

I liked the start of the book but after a while it was a little fustrating. It took for ever for them to have sex. The theme was good and the charters are enjoyable. I think the charter Emma went a little overboard by playing really had to get. Took her for ever to come around. However, I still plan to read the rest of the series.

4 out of 5 stars Sexy, Daring, but Something's Missing.......2007-09-01

I could hardly put this book down, especially the spicy scenes, which were written perfectly! And the plot of the book was believeable, and well-written.

But when Emmaline and Lachlain finally come together, the book immedietly goes downhill. Even when they finally have sex, the scene is too short, and not nearly as descriptive as previous scene. From there on is just plot, we don't get any more sexy situations!

And perhaps this is just me, but Emmaline's Valkyrie family were the MOST obnoxious characters I have EVER read in a book. Their logic, tactics, and personalities were grating and flat.

However, I still give the book 4 stars because all other aspects were amazing, and I definitely intend to read more in the series!!!

5 out of 5 stars My first paranormal romance and ....I loved it!!.......2007-08-25

I usually read historical romances (medieval, Georgian, regency & Victorian), but the trend in romance seems to be going in the paranormal direction so I figured I'd give one a try. I was seriously afraid of what I call "rolling eyes syndrome" ; some things are just unbelievable and I was hoping that this wasn't going to be just a bad B-movie read.

I am so surprised! I love this book! It reminds of some of my fav Scottish romances, but MUCH more intense and WAY edgier/darker! The alpha male hero is totally hot Scottish highlander hunk (a real treat for this Julie Garwood fan) and the heroine is this a shy little thing who eventually turns into a kick a*s woman. There's werewolf's, vampire's, Valkyrie, witches, wraiths etc., and Cole (author) does a excellent job introducing and giving background information on each one of these. She does this so well that I became instantly engrossed in the book and simply couldn't put it down. There are tons of really cool secondary characters that each have their own unique powers and personally I can't wait for those sequels!

So if you like historical romance or contemporary for that matter, this is a great place to start checking out paranormals. As for me, I have a feeling this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

This book is as great as the previous two. I can't wait for #4 & more.

5 out of 5 stars Be Still My Vampire Heart .......2007-07-24

Angus MacKay is a Scottish vampire who owns MacKay Securities. He provides protection for coven masters such as Roman Draganesti. Roman has sent Angus to investigate a vampire slayer who has been killing the vampires known as Malcontents. The Malcontents are ruled by Casimir, a very old and evil vampire. Katya Miniskaya is a Russian coven leader who needs to stop the slayer before Casimir kills her for not protecting her coven.

Emma Wallace is a vampire hunter. She works for the CIA as a member of the Stake-Out Team. When she meets Angus while hunting in Central Park one night, she can't help but be attracted to him. When she realizes he is a vampire, she tries to keep her distance from him.

Angus doesn't just want to keep Emma safe, he wants her for his own. Somehow he'll have to gain her trust. As they fight against Katya and Casimir, Emma is torn between her hatred of vampires and her feelings for Angus.

Kerrelyn Sparks has created her own unique vampire world with Be Still My Vampire Heart. She made up new rules and scenarios for these vamps that are different than most other vampire stories, creating this amusing and interesting tale. Angus' Scottish accent, combined with his brawn and power are very seductive, and Emma is strong, capable, and beautiful. They make one tough couple! Be Still My Vampire Heart is funny, sexy, exciting and a blast to read!

5 out of 5 stars Really Good.......2007-05-13

This book was really funny, for being the 3rd in the series you usually get a good book but not as good as the first. It was just as good. There were some really funny moments. It was good to see the other characters, exspecially Roman and Shanna and they also have a good moment. The hero was really sexy and his Scottish accent makes my heart melt. The heroine, is also sexy but very determined not to have anything to do with the hero but of course you know that never works out. A very great read...

Book Description

Etienne Argeneau's three hundred years of bachelorhood are at an end. He can only "turn" one human in his lifetime, and most of his kind reserved that power for creating a life mate. He has to save Rachel Garrett. He doesn't know her very well, but the beautiful coroner had saved his life. To save hers he would make her immortal. Rachel Garrett awakes surprised. All she'd wanted was to get off the night shift at the morgue; now here she is staggering to her feet naked and in a strange place. Then she sees the man of her dreams emerging from his...coffin? She just hopes he tastes as good as he looks.

5 out of 5 stars Well thought out series.......2007-08-05

Fast and in some places exciting story. Our Vampires are a little too human (ie eating food) but the story rocks along to its conclusion. I was annnoyed that this was one of a set but that is just me. The Author has thought this book through and it flows wonderfully. The males are not too chest thumpingly ALPHA and the women are not too simpering. 9/10

3 out of 5 stars Love Bites Has No Bite.......2007-04-05

First of all, the cartoon cover of this book sets the scene: no depth here. So anyone who goes in expecting much in the way of plot or character development will be disappointed.

Sands has an entire series set around the Argeneau family following the romance cliché with each member of the family getting their own book, in which the hero or heroine meets their lifemate. The vampire mythos is that all the vampires are actually descendents of Atlantis who developed nanotechnology. Nanos live it their blood and keep them in perfect health. Each vampire is destined to have a lifemate, i.e. a soulmate.

I won't bother hashing out plot problems as the focus of the story itself is not on plot, but on furthering the supposed sexual attraction between Etienne and his lifemate Rachael. Etienne turns Rachael into a vampire to save her life after she is axed in the chest by a totally ridiculous villain named Pudge--yes, Pudge--who has discovered Etienne is a vamp and wants to kill him.

Although I didn't hate it, my main issue with this book is with the scene in which Rachael awakens from being turned into a vamp thinks she is having a wet dream while Etienne tries to convince her she's awake, and he's a vamp. She is upset by him putting off her sexual advances and whines with disappointment that it must be because he is not well-endowed. Etienne responds with "all the men in my family are well-endowed." This line was so absolutely ridiculous and unbelievable that I laughed out loud. Rachael then responds with "Oh goodie!" I cannot believe the author, much less an agent or editor, did not suggest a revision to this absurd dialogue. What man would ever say this?! Worse still--how would he even know this information about the other men in his family?!!

Another amusing scene occurred when Rachael and Etienne are slightly intoxicated by the ecstasy-blood drinks they are slipped at a vamp club by Etienne's cousin. Rachael ends up on her knees, but Etienne gets a nice surprise when her blood lust overcomes plain old lust.

All in all, it's not the worst book out there, but many of the scenes trying to build tension between Etienne and Rachael were boring. Rachael whines a lot about the same old gripes--specifically about his turning her into a vamp, when she ought to be thanking him since she can't stop pissing and moaning about how BORING her life is. I mean, according to her, she was basically a hermit with a night-job of dealing with corpses in the morgue--why would she want to go back to that? Meanwhile, Etienne comes off as a geeky adolescent, despite the fact that he is supposed to be 300 years old.

In conclusion: this book has silly, absurd dialogue, no plot, and no heat between the main characters.

4 out of 5 stars A fun and lighthearted vampire romance.......2007-01-26

Love Bites is the second in the series by Lynsay Sands following the Argeneau family of vampires. Etienne is a writer of computer games who lives alone and hasn't had a relationship for three decades. However his life isn't all dull - Pudge, a fellow writer of computer games, has found out that Etienne is a vampire and is trying to kill him. Etienne takes this in a spirit of amusement as Pudge doesn't really know what he's doing - Etienne's family think Pudge should be killed but Etienne has some sympathy for him.

Rachel Garrett works in the morgue at a hospital and has no social life at all - the night shift for three years has seen to that. She realises that her life is getting pretty bad when she finds the corpse of a handsome young man rather attractive - although is he actually dead? And did she dream him anyway? Then a severely burned corpse is delivered to the morgue a couple of weeks later and Rachel finds there is a heartbeat; she's about to call for help when a man comes in and tries to kill the burned almost-corpse. Rachel tries to save her patient and ends up receiving a mortal wound. At which point the burned corpse gets up and saves her life by turning her into a vampire. Now Rachel has to learn to live as a vampire and to live with the knowledge that Etienne has used his one chance to turn a life partner on her - saving her life as she saved his. With the help of his family she tries to make her way in this new world, knowing that Pudge is out there as a threat and feeling guilt that Etienne had to turn her.

This book is a fun and lighthearted read, despite the occasionally serious subject. There are lots of references to characters that are in the first book and the end of the book sets up for another. There wasn't a great deal of action in this book and the personalities weren't particularly in depth - I suppose if you liked Kerrelyn Sparks' "How to marry a millionaire vampire" you'd enjoy this book as it was very similar. It's good to read but nothing special and doesn't add anything new to the genre.

2 out of 5 stars could have been better.......2006-07-03

This book did have a very interesting premise, but it could have been written in a whole much better direction than just to have the two main characters repeatedly having sex throughout most of the book. I did like the fact that 'respectable' vampires drink from bags of donated blood instead of attack people on the street (could have made a good subplot dealing with the blood bags); and the straws getting stuck on the woman's fangs so that she didnt have to taste the blood was kind of inventive too (but then she could have moved on with her life and tried to eke out what she could of the life she had before becoming a vampire). Too bad the blood issues were the only interesting things in the book.

2 out of 5 stars this is a book that will please a particular demographic and leave the rest of us pretty cold.......2006-05-12

OK, this is a book about a vampire, Etienne, whose only passion in life lately has been writing video games. He sits alone in his basement all night making the games & the crazy psycho killer of the novel is another game-writer who wanted a job with Etienne and didn't get one.

Then the heroine, Rachel, is a coroner with no social life. But seriously, no social life. She tells us over and over again - gee, I never go out, gee, what's there to do at night, gee, I caught my last lover having sex with my roommate and that was years ago in college. Her first major bonding experience with Etienne post-crossover is...spending a whole night with him playing video games. 10 hours straight. It made me feel sad.

Look, if you can get past this, maybe you will like the book. But I couldn't find Etienne sexy, no matter how silvery his eyes or impressive his physique. Not just because he spends all his time in a basement with his computers, or because - as he admits one morning to his mother - he hasn't had sex in two or three decades. No, it's because he's such a puppy dog. He's a kid. Bashful and a little dumb where women are concerned and eager to please. He acts a lot closer to twenty than three hundred.

Plus, and maybe I've just been reading too many of these vampire novels lately, but I am a little tired of the part of the novel when the heroine says something flip and a little rude and some older yet wiser vampire chuckles and observes, "Isn't she delightful?"

Also, this is a novel in which the vampires think that biting people is really taboo. They don't bite one another, they don't bite humans, they don't even appear to be very interested in biting. Where's the fun in that? They do, however, make all sorts of interesting blood cocktails. That's nice, but...eh.
