Customer Reviews:
Great book to utilize technology as a nonprofit.......2003-09-22
This book has helped me tremendously in my strategy on how to create a solid technology plan. Joni confirms the idea that technology is more than just a tool, it is a way to acheive your mission as a nonprofit. Technology is a necessary part of life now and instead of just buying it and making it work, you should first sit back and think it through. This book will help you do that.
The book is easy to read and gives straight forward advice on how to create and complete a technology plan for a nonprofit. I would highly recommend it for any nonprofit, whether or not you are buying technology soon, this book can help
Outstanding resource for all nonprofits.......2003-06-13
This is a superb guide to technology planning that will be a valuable addition to any nonprofit's management toolkit. I work in the nonprofit technology field (full disclosure--I know Joni personally), and I'm recommending this to everyone I know. I'm even buying copies for friends who work at other nonprofits. Based on Joni's experience leading dozens of nonprofits through the Silicon Valley program of the same name, "Wired for Good" covers every topic a nonprofit should consider in the course of developing a technology plan, and it's filled with real-world examples and worksheets readers can use themselves. It's written in an engaging, conversational style that won't intimidate non-techies, but it also tackles complex topics in a way that experienced users will find rewarding. Despite the rapid pace of technological change, the book's insightful and comprehensive approach to tech planning guarantees it a long shelf life.
Very useful for all nonprofits.......2003-04-27
Wired for Good is a wonderful resource that is long overdue and a very welcome addition to the nonprofit community. Too many nonprofits focus on operational technology planning - what computer to buy and what software to put on it. Those nonprofits who take the next step and plan strategically for technology are the ones who reap the organizational benefits technology can bring, while the others only tread water.
This book is not just an overview of planning, but gets into the nuts and bolts of the process. Using real life experiences and examples it provides applicable techniques and tips, not just theories. There are many examples of how nonprofits have executed the various parts of the planning process and the results of their actions. Too often guides like these go deep into theories without any practical advice or real-life examples, but not here. The examples here draw on the experience of a wide range of technical and non-technical nonprofit staff, making it widely understandable and accessible.
Using this guide, organizations can make solid, lasting improvements to the way they conduct their business, allowing them to make better use of their resources and provide better products and services.
I hope everyone who wishes to improve their organization will make use of Wired for Good to improve their organizations, and thereby our world as a whole.

Move Over Katherine and Isabel - Florence and Marita are in the House!.......2006-08-29
Katherine Cook Briggs and daughter Isabel Briggs-Myers, shared an intense curiosity about typology and together they co-created what became the "gold standard" for personality profiling, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. In a remarkably similar fashion, Florence, with husband Fred, began research into the four temperaments, which led to her body of work on the Personalities, paving the way for daughter Marita Littauer to add her own research and insights. Together, sharing forty years of study, they are inarguably, the Myers-Briggs for a new generation.
Now Marita Littauer has written the definitive book (with insights from Florence) about the Personalities under the clever title, Wired That Way. Let me say this plainly - you won't find the Myers-Briggs 16 personality types in this book. What you will find is the latest available information on the four basic types - often attributed to Hippocrates - of Sanguine, Phlegmatic, Melancholy, and Choleric.
Ms. Littauer writes in a conversational style that pulls you through the book, as she dives straight into the heart of practical everyday application. Through the use of story and metaphor, she takes us into the familiar daily-ness of life, and along the way, we suddenly realize we can better understand the strange people at work and the - um - "quirky" behavior of certain family members, as well as those curious individuals in our Bible Study group. In other words, wherever you find people, you will find fertile ground for applying these techniques.
I don't think it will be giving anything away to say that Ms. Littauer concludes her book with a caveat: Don't let the preferences of your personality be an excuse for poor performance or behavior. Rather, focus on using your strengths to overcome your weaknesses. Understand that it's your differences that make you a unique child of God. She notes that throughout the Gospels of the New Testament, the personality of Jesus Christ "contained the strength of all four personalities and the weaknesses of none." Marita's powerful, heartfelt call to action is "to live in your strengths - to be more like Christ."
Buy one book for yourself and send another to a friend - you know - that person who really needs to read it.
Understand yourself. Understand others........2006-06-07
Marita's new book 'Wired That Way' combines in one place the resources anyone needs to build better relationships and understand oneself. With my business name as 'Word Wardrobe,' I ask the question in my speaking and writing, 'What kind of words do you wear?' Wired That Way provides myriad examples relating how we often hurt people's feelings who have different personalities than our own. Because my emphasis is on words and the response those words bring, I'm excited to share in my Personality Trainings one comprehensive book which meets the needs of everyone. After reading this book, no one will be able to blunder through life slaying people with their words.

Great resource.......2006-06-01
I am excited about Wired That Way! It's full of fresh stories and examples that help illustrate the principles. Having all of the information about the different aspects of The Personalities in one place is going to be an awesome tool!
Hope for Better Relationships.......2006-06-01
Wired That Way will enrich your life as you allow yourself and others to be the persons you were created to be. One personality is not better than another; each has strengths and weaknesses. I love what Marita Littauer says in Chapter Three: "Take some time to get to know the basics of your Personality. Look at your strengths and build them up, and then work to whittle away your weaknesses." There's work to be done, and this book can help us do it.

Book Description
The step-by-step techniques featured in this richly illustrated book take the beginner who knows little about wirework on a journey to creating artistic and unique free-form jewelry. Using round wire that is readily available and economically viable, wireworkers learn everything from how to hold pliers to how to make ear wires, hook-and-eye closures, and cages for marbles and cabochons. Line drawings, photographs of finished objects, and a wirework gallery of pieces by the author and other contemporary wirework artists provide sample creations and ideas for the innovative wireworker.

Not like the rest.......2007-09-18
I'm really surprised to see how many positive reviews this book has gathered. Due to this I ordered my own copy as well as Bead on A Wire by Sharilyn Miller. The two can't even begin to be compared but I'll try. All Wired Up just lacks in good photos to show techniques, the drawings are small. There are only about 5 glossy pictures at the end of the book for inspiration pieces but none for projects. I'm very disappointed in this book. However Bead on A Wire is an exceptional teaching and inspiring book, with enlarged, color photos of every aspect of learning to work with wire. The projects are just beautiful and doable. I'm a beginner but sure Sharilyn Miller's book can accomodate all levels. So glad I purchased this and will return All Wired Up.
All Wired Up.......2007-07-27
I like this book. The author put a lot of work into making the instructions as clear as possible. I like the way he starts with the basics which allows for practice and then goes into more complicated projects (but always referring back to the basics when appropriate).
A wonderful beginning..........2007-07-01
Lareau's engaging, clear writing coupled with varied projects can give the beginner a solid start in wire work. It covers basic wire techniques, wraps (donut, bead and cabochon), cages, and findings (bails, headpins, ear wires, clasps). His book shows techniques through line-art drawings and has little in the way of eye candy until the gallery at the end.
great learning tool.......2007-05-13
very easy to understand directions for the beginner. I would highly recommend this book for wire wrapping!
Basic+.......2007-05-09
This is a very good book for teaching the basics of wire working and it is well written. The items covered are very common and are the foundation for most beaders today. The gallery is inspiring enough to send the reader on to bigger and better things.

What You’re Wired For
Athlete or musician, quiet or “the life of the party”—you are unique. There is no one like you on the planet. But your life has a common thread that is true of all people: you are wired for worship. Not just any worship, but for that of your Creator! That’s what this book is about—discovering your purpose and learning how to fulfill it. Geared for teenagers and college students, Wired is designed with pages that teach, challenge, and connect as you dig into Scripture and learn about your created purpose. This interactive student edition of The Air I Breathe includes a thirty-day worship experience as a guided personal journey that discloses the depth of God’s character and how to know Him more intimately. Ideal for use in small groups, an accompanying leader’s guide is also available.

30 Day Worship Journey
Louie Giglio
Story Behind the Book
“I love teenagers. In fact, while writing this, I’m on my way to spend four days with more than 1500 of them at camp! My passion to see young people awaken to a lifestyle of worship that goes far beyond singing songs, coupled with the need for small-group material, stimulated the idea for Wired. I want to equip youth workers with a resource that can be used in small groups, large Bible studies, or Sunday school classes. I pray that Wired will encourage teens everywhere to a lifestyle that reflects God’s greatness to the world.” —Louie Giglio
Customer Reviews:
A bibllical view of worship.......2007-01-02
There has been much confusion about the word 'worship' in evengelical culture. There is a tendency to think of worship as just being about music, a style of music and the fifteen minutes (more or less) before the sermon. We use phrases like 'the worship was really good this morning' or 'I prefer modern worship instead of the old hymns' etc. Much of the church is guilty of this compartmentalized way of thinking.
This book will shatter any misconceptions a reader may have about a) what worship is and b) how we worship. Louie Giglio builds a solid biblical foundation for the idea that worship is an attitude of the heart that bleeds into all of our life: how we think, how we live, how we rest, how we serve and our attitudes toward God and His gifts. Of course, there are implications about how this impacts our worship IN church--but it is more about how we worship God outside of the church.
Although written with a younger audience in mind, this book should be required reading for a Christian regardless of age and spiritual maturity. Many pastors and evangelical leaders should read this book--perhaps there would be great change in our churches and the petty arugments we get into about worship style and form of worship will finally end.
The book is interactive---there are questions and discussion sections that make it a great tool for group study. Giglio has done the church a great service in writing this much-needed book.
Powerful tool for youth workers.......2006-05-17
In his book, Wired: For a Life of Worship, dynamic author and speaker Louie Giglio offers teens a fresh look at a lifestyle of worship. Today's youth are searching for meaning, and they want to grow spiritually beyond the packaged church experience. Giglio believes God wants us to know Him intimately and to "live a life that's fully active, awakened to His great love."
In the same way Giglio's bestselling The Air I Breathe was a huge success, the writing in this edgy teen version leaps off the page. His book is divided into two sections: the first half introduces readers to the author's vision for true worship, followed by an interactive "30-Day Worship Journey" that takes readers through the book of Psalms.
The author defines worship as a "whole-life response to God's greatness and glory." You can tell he knows his audience well - the stories and anecdotes are hip and relevant for teens. He offers up-to-date examples to support his theory that worship is an active, ongoing process of walking out our love for our Savior, Jesus Christ.
This book is a powerful tool for youth workers and anyone seeking positive ways to raise up a new generation whose lives are wired for serving God. I wish this had been around when I was a teen. Wired is also perfect for dynamic small group discussion that will change lives and, ultimately, rock the world. - Heather Ivester, Christian Book Previews.com
Book Description
With headlines like Online Danger Zone and Are Teens Saying Too Much Online? appearing in publications like The New York Times, Time, and Newsweek everyday adults are becoming increasingly worried about what kids are really doing on the Internet and with technology today. What are MySpace, Facebook, Xanga, Live Journal? What exactly are teens doing on them? Totally Wired is the first inside guide to explore what teens are doing on the Internet and with technology. Speaking with a cross section of industry professionals and teenagers, Anastasia Goodstein gets to the bottom of how teens use technology as well as the benefits and draw backs of this use.
Customer Reviews:
Totally Useful.......2007-05-16
If you have teens in your life, you need to read Totally Wired. Goodstein de-mystifies text messaging and social networking, offers common-sense advice on how to manage the security concerns about your teens online time, and provides a `cheat sheet' to help us interpret what's really going on in our teenagers' world.
The best part is that Goodstein really gets teens. Drawing analogies to things that were familiar to us from our youth, she helps us understand that MySpace is really just another place to hang out, that personalizing your own online page is a way for teens to express themselves just as I did by hanging posters in my room or pinning buttons to my denim jacket, and that many teens do need parents to help them understand the boundaries, both offline and online. Reading this book made me remember how much fun it was to be a teenager myself (in between all the drama). And I came away with a new sense of respect for the choices that today's far more empowered teens are making for themselves.
Now if someone would only write a book to help teens understand their parents ...
A definite read!.......2007-04-24
Anastasia really understands tweens and teens. In a very easy read... Totally Wired, Anastasia relays what today's kids are doing to what any generation did when they hit this critical age of child development. Things are not so different... we just have new ways to communicate. And like any generation that had their battles, this generation is learning to know what is and is not appropriate, who I should or should not talk to and how being connected online all the time can affect me and the world around me. As co-creator of Zoey's Room, an online community for tween girls -- I highly recommend all parents and educators to read this and remember what it was like to be that age...
Required Reading.......2007-04-20
Anastasia Goodstein knows teenagers. She has studied them, marketed to them, and talked to them. Don't be turned off because the author is not a parent of a teen. Because Goodstein isn't a parent, she was able to get teens to open up about their online experiences. And she also talked to parents who share there struggles, concerns and perspectives. If you really want to know what your teen is doing online - or if your young child is just starting to go online - buy this book NOW.
What you will learn is that there are dangers on the Internet, and more often the dangers are your child's fellow students. Cyber-bullying from classmates is becoming more a danger to teens than strangers trolling for sex, and Goodstein covers the various methods of cyber-bullying. Considering that teenagers don't always make the right choices, parents do have a lot to worry about.
While Goodstein properly alerts parents to the real dangers of the Internet, she also balances it with realism. Although your teen may not always understand the consequences of what she does online, she probably already knows about the dangers of the Internet and how to protect herself. You'll read comments from real teens about their online experiences. The comments will alarm you and and comfort you all at the same time.
Helpful tips and "insider" information are peppered throughout the pages. Know what a "Code 9" is? Find the answer and more teen code in the book. (Code 9 = parent in the room). Are teens "hooking up" with other teens they meet online? Maybe not as much as you might have been told. Where is the balance between protecting your child and trusting your child? There's not an easy answer but you can find out what other parents are doing successfully.
You will be a better-informed parent after reading this book, even if you think you already know everything about teens' online life. I think of myself has a pretty online-aware parent, but I learned something from reading Totally Wired, and you will too.
For anyone who deals with teens.......2007-04-16
An engaging and enlightening read for adults that live or work with teens. In spite of their total connectedness with friends and the world, teens today are still the same teens of times past. As they strive to figure out who they are, they need adult involvement and guidance in their lives. What intimidates many adults is the fact that they cannot stay ahead of these mind-boggling tech savvy teens. Yet between the great overview of the tech world teens live in and excellent suggestions on how adults can effectively connect and guide teens, much of the intimidation felt evaporates.
Author Goodstein carefully explains all the ways teens are connected, complete with side bar definitions, interviews, resource lists, etc. Ms. Goodstein has done her homework including documented statistics, expert observances and experiences, and summaries of numerous interviews she conducted with both teens and adults who have extensive contact with teens. Whether you know a little or a lot about the world teens live in today this book has much to offer.
A must for every parent, every teacher, every librarian - anyone working with young people!.......2007-04-13
Anastasia know her stuff! With a thorough knowledge of the youth media landscape and an exhaustive and stellar group of people interviewed and profiled - this is a fantastic book! It's a nice and easy read with an amazing amount of information imparted. Anastasia does a great job of pairing what teens are doing online with their developmental traits and needs -- this is not a lost generation - they are simply being teens as teens have always been - in new ways. This book will calm fears, educate parents, educators, lawmakers etc. on the reality of this new wired world. The bottom line with this issue is that parents need to be educated on what their children are doing, and put their "worry" and concern in the right areas - once they learn what's really going on they won't respond to the hype and hysteria that the media at large seems intent on passing on. Every parent, every public and school library MUST get their hands on this - learn it, love it, live it!

Wired that Way.......2007-01-16
I am not sure what I was expecting when I received this set but I have to say I learned so much more about myself, my spouse and our relationship than I ever thought possible. I now know why we are the way we are and what makes us tick. I now see the differences in each of us and others; for that matter why I get along with some people and not others. The workbook along with the Reader, used in a christian college class, has shown me a new side of myself. One that I liked but also one I knew I could improve on. For anyone who is going into counseling or wants a better understanding of your relationship without over-analyzing your love one, I say this is the book for you. I have told my spouse that if they wanted to understand me better, this is one way to do it. I will in no way push them to read it but I have shared some of the book with them and they have seen that it makes sense. Thank you Marita for writing this book.
Book Description
Is there conflict in your life? That's normal even unavoidable according to conflict resolution expert Sondra Van Sant. In her new book, Wired for Conflict, Van Sant reveals that the inborn roots of conflict are hardwired into our brains and that this same "wiring" holds the keys to resolution of conflict. Using personality types as a basis, Wired for Conflict shows you how to transform miscommunication, misunderstanding, and potential hostility into a collaborative process of creative problem solving and opportunities for personal growth. As practical as it is profound, Wired for Conflict is an indispensable guide for successfully negotiating everyday life.

Invaluable Conflict Resolution Tool.......2004-10-19
Like 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder', we all 'hear' things differently and respond to them according to our type. This book explains not only our hereditary tendencies for what sparks conflict and our automatic reactions to and approaches to resolving conflict, but what is viewed as a satisfactory resolution. We all have our potential blind spots and the book has tips and quick reference guides for us to use, as well as information about body language and a seven step model for recognizing and resolving conflict based on knowledge of psychological type which helps us to understand ourselves and others better.
The book begins with a quote from Isabel Myers who developed the MBTI for discovering our psychological types, "All too often, others with whom we come in contact do not reason as we reason, or do not value the things we value, or are not interested in what interests us", and these are some of the common causes of conflict. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wishes to handle conflict intelligently and come to a win/win harmonious solution.

"Excellent advice."--Public Relations Quarterly
Nearly a decade after it first hit bookstands, Michael Levine's Guerrilla PR remains one of the industry's bestselling, best-reviewed, and most valuable how-tos for garnering low-or no-cost publicity. Now, Guerrilla PR Wired updates Levine's attention-getting strategies for today's globally wired environment.
Customer Reviews:
Not very useful........2007-09-13
I think this is the first book about business and finance that I actually thought was not really worth my time in reading it. Maybe I normally just make good choices about which books look interesting and educational. This book was certainly not either of those.
Guerrilla PR Wired tries to capitalize on the Guerrilla name (as in Guerrilla Marketing and Guerilla Marketing for the Home-Based Business by Jay Conrad Levinson), but it is completely unrelated. The only thing "guerrilla" about it is Levine calling people with small businesses "guerrillas", just as Levinson does. When I read "guerrilla", I assumed it was part of THE guerrilla franchise and was fooled into reading it.
This book is very outdated and too simple to really be much use in public relations or online marketing. It's expected that a book on online marketing will go out of date within a few years after its printing, but I learned things about the ancient version of the internet that I had no idea existed. Additionally, its simplified view of public relations doesn't give the reader with much information to actually put together a PR campaign and execute one.
Although, as a person who had no idea what public relations were and what they intended to accomplish, I figure this book at least gave me the jist of the idea. One of the most useful things I learned was to pitch your news releases to local weekly publications. Then, larger publications can become interested in the story and then they might publish it....hence, big follows small.
So overall, there are probably better books to get you started in PR online and offline. Let me know if you have any suggested ones for me to read!

Good cover and paperback, but everything in between is disappointing..........2005-09-30
I could take out a handful of (minor) good ideas out of this book. Consider the time I invested in reading it, I would say not worth it.
I am pretty much a newbie to P.R., and I think most of the ideas inside this book will come quicker to you if you use common sense.
Some rought guidelines who to interact with the press (DON'T SEND MAILS WITH SUBJECT LINE ALL IN CAPITALS; be persistent when pitching but accept an no for an answere; journalists and producers are busy people, so contact them only if it is newsworthy, never lie to journalists, try to figure out the schedule of the person you're contacting, because if you call at "rush hour", you will not be able to make your pitch; find out how people like to be approached before you do your pitch (some like email, some fax, some snailmail, some phonecalls, etc.)
skip this one.......2005-07-09
Adding 'guerilla' to the title does not a good book make. There's nothing unique about the advice given here that you can't find in any other book on the subject. Save your money.
Levine = Sandra Bullock Of Literary World?.......2005-04-08
Just as Miss Congeniality 2 is a really stupid sequel to a really stupid movie that shouldn't have been made in the first place, so too is Guerrilla PR Wired a really stupid follow up to a really stupid book that shouldn't have been written in the first place. The author should have seen that Jay Conrad Levinson already had the topic covered and left it at that.
Michael Levine's book reads like a college freshman who is doing a report on Jay Conrad Levinson's Guerrilla Publicity. Don't let the similarity in title fool you--Levinson's is the real deal while Levine's is a very poor rip-off.
Not A Good Book.......2005-02-19
I have been planning to run an online business for a while now. To gain some better insight I thought I would seek out a few helpful books that may put me a little bit ahead in the game.
Unfortunately this book was a complete waste of time and money. And as anybody who has ever run their own business knows, both of those elements are crucial. But at least as bad investments go, a poorly written book won't set you back too far.
I can't speak for the rest of the population, but for the entrepreneurial type, you would be wise to skip this book at all costs (unless you are one of my competitors--then by all means buy this book and follow every example it teaches!).

Remarkably more down-to-earth than its predecessor, the revised Wired Style guide is a handy little reference for digerati, or those who think they are. This version is much more accessible to general Internet users, not unlike the Web, which has become more mainstream in the three years since the original publication was released. (The previous edition was criticized for its pomposity and near-incomprehensibility.) This revision still delivers the inside scoop, though. You'll not only learn how to talk about cyberspace (for example, you can read about the evolution of the term "email" and why Wired prefers it without the hyphen), you'll also get an encyclopedic listing of all the trendy lingo that describes it.
Geared heavily toward high-tech communications writers but of use to any Web surfer, this pocket-size manual employs a very simple structure: it contains a short and well-organized discussion on writing technical material clearly and interestingly; a compact but thorough dictionary of relevant terms; a brief style FAQ (with answers to questions such as, "What's the deal with all those capital letters in the middle of words?"); and a petite index.
The introduction offers 10 "Principles for Writing Well in the Digital Age," encouraging you to "play with voice," "capture the colloquial," and "flaunt your subcultural literacy," all trademarks of Wired's tendency to be esoteric. Sure, it's fun and cool to be colloquial and subculturally in the know, but it's just as important to be widely understood. Luckily, in this edition, the editors have caught on to this, and have produced a guide that is smart, useful, and almost unpretentious. --Teri Kieffer
Customer Reviews:
Indeed a bit pompous, but has still a bigger issue.......2004-05-19
Think of "Wired Style" as the 'Chicago Manual of Style' (well, sort of) as stated by Newsweek back in 1999 when this book first came out, and you probably by now can realize where the fundamental problem of the book is. While it does come accross as a bit pompous at times, indeed, the biggest issue it has is the fact that it hasn't been updated since its first edition, five years ago, an entire lifetime by Internet standards. As a result, several ubiquitous terms that you run into everywhere today are missing: blog, RSS, CSS, XHTML, flat panel, and the list goes on and on. So, as much as they ditch the more conservative AP Stylebook, it is not that much better as a tool for editors/writers working in the "digital age", so I don't see much of a point in buying it at this point any more.
An outstanding e-reference.......2004-03-03
This is one of my all-time favorite style guides. Compact, up-to-date, informational yet fun to read. Wired Style answers questions that apparently never occurred to Strunk and White (or to Chicago Manual of Style). The answers are not as prescriptive as those in some style guides, but are written more like "guides" that reveal the thought processes behind the suggestions.
Not the greatest book, but still indispensible.......2003-01-15
There's no doubt that the Wired Style guide is not the best style guide ever written; that said, with Chicago and AP still shockingly behind on integrating usages of Internet and technology-based words into their guides, this book is absolutely indispensible. AP might give three varients of an online word, but Wired gives a more complete listing of all known varients. Whether you like it or not, if you write about the Internet, or ever have to explain Web strategy to someone in writing, you need this book. The other sources out there just don't cut it.
And, as a bonus, if you use a word like "usability," and everyone looks at you funny, this book gives you a backup reference to point to, so you don't look like the one inventing words. (This has in fact happened to me, and it made me question who could possibly not have heard of usability in this day and age -- oh well.)
Valuable resource.......2001-07-24
There is often a debate on how to treat a tech word like email. Should we be like AP or the way the digital press speaks? I found this a great compendium of latest logic in the lexicon of technology. Additionally, the editors are self-deprecating enough to suggest that the standard will likely change -- standby.
Great reference manual.......2001-07-06
As an editor of an online publication, I find myself picking up Wired Style again and again. It has great definitions for terms that frequently come up. Want to know what open source is? Or asynchronous transfer mode? There's also cute stuff in there, like who coined the word nerd (Dr. Seuss). I'm not sure I would pick this book up just to read, but if you're in a position where you need to look up terms quickly, this is the best out there in the high-tech arena.
