I don't know where to begin because this book is so bad!.......2007-07-08
Fist of all, I'll start off buy saying ladies, if you're 25 or under, this book is not for you!!!
Second, if you only identify with one or two attributes categorized in this book, this book will not help you very nuch, as you will only be looking at a maximum of 10 pages from the entire book. Plus, the help is so generic and limited. They only give you a list of 4 or 5 helpful cuts/lines/lengths, and a series of 4 or 5 stlyes/etc. to avoid. Well, I realized that there are FAR more stlyes/etc. in the world than 5, so if I go to the store and find something NOT mentioned in the book, how am I supposed to know if I can wear it or not!? Most books are designed to give you a starting point to further progress your fashion savvy conscious, but this book did no such thing. It was a dead end leaving you wondering what the heck you're supposed to do now. DON'T BUY THIS BOOK. EVEN IF YOU FOUND A $0.50 DEAL, IT'S NOT WORTH IT.
I am not buying what they are selling.......2007-06-13
I was extremely disappointed in this book. I love these kind of style advice books but this just left me feeling like I didn't learn a thing. Much of the advice was old hat, and some of it I just didn't even agree with like busty girls shouldn't wear turtlenecks - cmon! And it only addressed specific body areas rather than all over body types.
For my money Stacey and Clinton's book is the way to go. Haven't found one yet to rival theirs. And I guess I just like the way they seem to find beauty in all figure types and bring it out. I know Susannah and Trinny are British but their humor sometimes just borders on sheer viciousness. Counter-productive to raising people self-esteem.
Helpful.......2007-04-03
I find there ideas to be very helpful. Being a 40 something Mom with teens, I don't want to appear a nerdy dresser.
Most of what I own is what not to wear!.......2007-03-26
Not very insightful. I like these girls on TV, but the book left me clueless. I still do not know what current styles will look good on me. A better book is Nothing to Wear?: A Five-Step Cure for the Common Closet. It talks about body types and style preferences. And give you a plan to clean your closet and avoid buying mistakes in the future.
Very Helpful. VERY........2007-03-10
I absolutely love watching re-runs of Trinny & Susannah's show. And this book is good for those who need help in figuring out what to wear.
Book Description
Elegant, passionate, and filled with the love of God's creation, Abraham Joshua Heschel's The Sabbath has been hailed as a classic of Jewish spirituality ever since its original publication-and has been read by thousands of people seeking meaning in modern life. In this brief yet profound meditation on the meaning of the Seventh Day, Heschel introduced the idea of an "architecture of holiness" that appears not in space but in time Judaism, he argues, is a religion of time: it finds meaning not in space and the material things that fill it but in time and the eternity that imbues it, so that "the Sabbaths are our great cathedrals."
Customer Reviews:
Approachable Philosophy.......2007-06-03
Heschel wrote this book for us all. His metaphorical descriptions of the Holy Day are vivid and tangible. This book is more entry level than others he has written. Though most of his philosophy is comprehensible, in this book he allowed his readers to relish the simple harmony of the weekly convocation. A wonderful read. I have given away several copies to friends.
Seventh Day Sabbath Goldmine.......2007-04-25
As a practicing Bible believer I have no choice but to agree with the thesis of this book and that is God has gifted us with the Seventh Day Sabbath (day of rest). What makes this book even better is the rich insight and poetical writing style describing the benefits of the Sabbath rest being observed [e.g. Sabbath is a sanctuary etc.]. Intelligent, thoughtful reading, it's rich contents will take time to digest and think through. I believe this is the lifetime work of the Jewish author. But at 100 pages it is one of a kind and in a class of it's own [if you want a longer treatment check out History Of The Sabbath And The First Day Of The Week Showing The Bible Record Of The Sabbath. If you only have one book on the Sabbath (other than your Bible) this will keep you informed and thinking.
the Sabbath.......2007-01-04
This is a thoughtfully written reflection on the meaning of the Sabbath that is appropriate for both Christians and Jews. The book is wonderful for spiritual reading and reflection. It adds depth and meaning to our worship and praise of God. Written by a deeply spiritual man the Sabbath is a great resouce for anyone who wants to deepen and expand their relationship with God.
Breathtaking.......2006-02-26
The Sabbath is an awesome book to read for both Jews and Christians alike. Heschel's discussion of time, space and posessions is inspiring, and transforming. As a Christian, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and found it to be a very enlightening description of Jewish heritage. It challenged me to think about what time I observe with God, and for what reasons; what are my priorities; and how effective am I in living out my faith.
The most beautiful book of all time.......2006-01-09
The wisdom contained in this book is incredible. It is a must read for all people who think our society is too focused on materialistic achievement. Heschel's call for a day of rest is desperately needed. My favorite book.

Customer Reviews:
Thanks from a beginner.......2005-01-28
I bought a couple of books about Dreamweaver and I want to thank you for creating one that even a beginner could follow. The other books I bought were way over my head and I found myself lost before I even got started. I guess if I get more advanced I may appreciate some of the other books, but as someone who is new to Web design, I want to thank you for helping me get started. I couldn't have done it without you.
Covers the Basics.......2004-12-04
Having only once created a webpage on FrontPage, I thought I was a bit ahead of the game. Still, I decided to look into a how-to book for dummies like myself.
Fortunately, I had also purchased the Dreamweaver bible. If you want to do more with your site than just pictures with text and tables... then this is a great book.
I found myself having to look at the Dreamweaver Bible to make my site better.
As for content presentation, I would have preferred if they include Cascade Style Sheets with the inital introduction to HTML. The flow would have been much better.
This book does a bad job covering <META> and Keywords.
So, yes, it's ok for the PLAIN basic of all basics. I recommend it merely for the fact that it introduces you Dreamweaver Menu Items and helps you get around the workspace. But it is not the only book you will need- unless you're just interested in creating a little site with little pictures of your little puppy. Even then, the authors do not cover on getting your website on search engines and finding it once it is up there.
A rush job.......2004-11-10
The first 75% of the book deals with plain HTML, forms and other buttons and takes one from 0 to 5 on a scale to 1000. A lot of space wasted on mechanical clicking around the interface. Explain the menus and options and how to use them and don't need to walk through each one as if I've never seen a mouse. Now, if all you want in a web site is a bunch of words, links and pictures, all you need is MS Word and then Save as HTML. So, I imagine the fun part is when you have a database, to make the site smart... The database examples have missing steps and built in assumptions, no clue as to what could go wrong, etc. Needless to say, I spent many hours searching the net to fill the missing spaces left by this book. To my surprise, I found Macromedia's ONLINE UltraDev help a much better resource, with better explanations and a lot more graphics. Thanks Jannine, but no thanks!
Very useful.......2004-02-01
Dreamweaver is a great program for building a full website. I have as many as 40 pages spun off one template, and about 80% of all my website pages are template pages. It's a real timesaver. Dreamweaver makes using templates for similar webpages easy. Unfortunately, Macromedia's documentation is often dry and a little tedious to try and understand. Fortunately, we have How To books we can count on to make things easier. This book by Warner and Gardner is the best I could find in the bookstore, and I think you'll find it very useful as I did.
A Very Complex Program, Made Easy.......2004-01-18
Here's a little secret: HTML is easy. A good, useable, expandable Web site, though, that's a lot harder, and Dreamweaver is the tool that every professional Web developer I know uses; it's the Mack truck of Web editors. Susannah Gardner and Janine Warner should get a medal for writing a Dummies book for this mega-program, and for doing such a good job with it, that medal ought to be gold. In a mere 390 pages, they cover: Defining and planning Web sites, streamlining your work with templates and library items, working with images, HTML tables, frames, layers, DHTML, JavaScript "behaviors" (as Dreamweaver calls them), integrating with other Macromedia programs like Flash and Fireworks, using forms, and integrating dynamic (i.e. database driven) content. Whew! I recommend the book for anyone who is new to the program, and wants to start out leaning the basics and go all the way to the most advanced uses. However, if you're already an expert Web developer and need more depth on a particular area of Web development, you may want to pick up a different book specific to the task you're trying to do (database integration, for example). What this book does is give you a complete VIP tour of the program, and explain what every part of it can be used for. It's a great first book. Oh, one more thing: The 2004 version of Dreamweaver has a few new changes, including: it handles MS Office importing better, and though it's not yet perfect, it's much better at handling CSS now; if that's important to you, you should upgrade, and get this book.

For laughs only...........2007-10-16
What medication were they on when they compiled this book? I love their show, and have enjoyed some of their other books, but this one is over the top silly. If you're looking for "What to Wear to Clown School", this is the book! Swarms of butterflies swirling over your head for a wedding? You must be kidding. If you're curious, I'd hit the local library, there's a reason these books are selling for a penny here. I never give bad reviews and I adore these two women, but there is little of practical value for most women in this book.
Somewhat Useful.......2007-09-16
I thought that this book was sort of useful in some sections, but others did not fit my lifestyle at all and some of the good ideas seemed to reveal too much to me (wearing a suit jacket with no shirt.) That sort of exposure is considered inappropriate in the circles I run in.
Quite a let-down.......2007-03-26
I've enjoyed Trinny and Susannah's other books and picked up quite a few tips from those, but this book has me shaking my head. Worst is the career-dressing advice: it might be fine if you've got an entry-level position, but if you're at a managerial or professional level, forget it!
For one thing, Trinny and Susannah seem to have a strong allergy to suits or, for that matter, any clothes that are conservative or classic. Well, trendy doesn't work for everybody, and it doesn't work all the time. Some of their "don'ts" work as well as, or even better, than their "do's". And some sections are overlong; do we really need numerous versions of skiwear and after-ski wear?
Not what I expected.......2007-02-21
Perhaps it is because the show is UK based but I was taken aback by some of the after pictures. Alot of dresses over pants and very outlandish hats are shown as do's.
Some of the befores don't look too bad other than the dated 80's look which I think we all know not to wear. I would have preferred more tips on handling body types rather than the obvious no's. They put in some really sloppy don'ts which aren't much help unless people in London are really walking around like that. We need more realistic don'ts as opposed to the obvious.
Ew........2007-01-21
On multiple occasions they recommend wearing "a dress over slacks" as a "contemporary style," ironically using the outdated word "slacks." Have you ever seen anybody wear this? I mean, without people pointing and laughing?
The dress over slacks idea generally summarises the character of What Not To Wear's fashion advice: Gross. Frumpy. Sometimes just plain weird. Granted, the outfits they "correct" in this book are worse, but only because the original outfits are inappropriate for the occasion in question. Their advised outfits are not technically inappropriate, just ugly, and certainly not the only stylistic alternative to the original like they seem to claim.
Their choices might not seem so disgusting to me and make me feel so defiantly resentful of everything they portray as "fashionable" if they didn't claim to be some sort of godlike aesthetic authority, despite having no tangible style. But they DO seem to claim that they are taste embodied, which is clearly impossible. If such a thing exists it certainly won't be found in anything do with the What Not to Wear franchise.

yet another.......2007-05-28
I can't believe they're still managing to milk the same darn cow. The cheek. What will they come up with next? Europe by geographical area or something like that? I don't see how anyone can take advice from two women who seem to live in 6 inch heels - I know I look much taller (sic!) and slimmer when I don a pair for a dinner where I know I'be ferried to and fro. Or from a woman who must have once been told that she should never wear a bra and should always wear tops made of fabric that makes it obvious..... Please.
Not worth the money .......2007-03-13
Don't get me wrong I'm a huge fan of the authors. But this is just a fund raiser for them between jobs. It took about 15 minutes to look through, and I thought I must have missed something. So I really sat down to go through the book and it took me less than an hour. So dissapointed. At least in the TV series you got a look at several outfits that would suit the individual, but in this book you get a set-up bad shot and then "how wonderful" only one after shot. You get Trinny and Susannah hiding behind wigs and glasses. If this had been their first book, this would have also have been their last!!
If you like examples and photos for every body type check out Bradley Bayou "The Science of Sexy", what a resource of what to wear for casual, career and formal. It shows you how to be all covered up, but looking good.
truly a fun read.......2007-03-09
I found this book to be an absolutely lovely commentary on some American stereotypes, and to contain fabulous advice on how to improve our not only our looks but also our self-worth and well-being. There's a little bit of many of us in many of the characters presented here -- the busy mom who lets herself go; the "larger eccentric" who craves attention; the woman whose best years were in the '80s and so strives to relive them through her wardrobe... The authors begin by assuring the reader that these truly are exaggerated characters, so we can more easily see how a certain style may be, well, less than flattering. Then they show how easy it is to make small steps toward a more flattering and appropriate style -- and these small steps make a world of difference. For the woman who constantly wears baggy t-shirts, sweatshirts, jeans and tennies, they suggest a fitted tee, tucked in, with a belt and nicely cut jeans. The 'before' and 'after' pictures are really inspiring. I especially liked the way they matched up colors and patterns, and accessorized their models (often themselves) so appropriately. After reading this book and poring over the pictures, I found myself ditching the ugly pantyhose in favor of fun fishnets, searching for a bright-colored bag to replace my year-round utilitarian black model, and seeking out a patterned jacket to replace my old standard (again, black.) In fact, every time I read a Trinny and Susannah book, I thin a few more old items out of my closet. (Boxy jackets, big shoulder pads, and anything prairie-looking have to go!) Their advice is down-to-earth and not judgemental. Many of us *do* need to be told that a shoe with a heel can be comfortable, that gym shoes don't go with jeans, that longer hair isn't better if it doesn't flatter your face....this is a book that deserves to be passed around the office, the school staffroom, the family...a real treat.
Not a totally new book lots of reruns from older books.......2007-03-09
A great team but this book is a stale rearrangement of old pictures and quotes. Keep it fresh and it's wonderful. This was not wonderful
Extremely Insightful View Into Psychology of Clothes.......2007-01-20
After reading WHAT YOU WEAR CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE, I became a fan of Trinny and Susannah and bought all of their books. They inspired me to clean out my closet and I've slowly begun buying clothes to enhance the me I am now, not the me I was in the past. (It turns out that I was one of those women who dressed like a "lamb," even though I'd crossed the threshhold into fully-grown "sheep.")
When TRINNY AND SUSANNAH TAKE ON AMERICA: WHAT YOUR CLOTHES SAY ABOUT YOU came out, I thought that only one or two of the sections in the book would apply to me. Yet when I got it home and actually read each section carefully, I realized that so much of the advice in the book spoke directly to me. In short, the book gets into the nitty gritty of the psychology of appearance and why women make crucial mistakes, mistakes that signal to the world how they feel about themselves at any given time and what their fears are. Whatever your issue, whether it be dressing too youthfully, as I once did, losing touch with your femininity because of the pressures of motherhood, or simply giving up because your body isn't what you'd like it to be, Trinny and Susannah will give you inspiration to look at your physical appearance in a new way. There's always time for a fresh start--one that could prompt a whole new positive phase in your life. Trinny and Susannah provide straight talk, which is what we need to shake us out of our ruts.
The main thing the girls have helped me realize is that even though I've passed the big 4-0, I don't have to fade away into nothingness. I'm now realizing that I can move forward and be just as attractive and stylish as the more grown-up version of me. In fact, I'm realizing that in many ways, this is probably one of the best times in my life--the time when I have the confidence to dress like a sexy, competent woman. Trinny and Susannah are simply fantastic inspiration and I'm now taking them as my style mentors.
In short, if you read this book carefully, you'll find your issues throughout the book and it will inspire you to look at yourself in a new way.
Bravo, Trinny and Suz! Keep coming out with the wonderful books! We're counting on you!

Lonely Planet Australia.......2007-06-08
This was a gift and hoping it would arrive in time but no problems there.
It is really really really bad travel guide!!!.......2006-03-17
I started to use Lonely Planet 15 years ago. I can say that I am a witness of how much quality deteriorite it has been. I used to just buy it by default. It was a Bible for me. But, a BIG but, this Lonely Planet Australia set a new lowest standard for the series.
First of all, it had so old information. The hostels listed in the book in Sydeny probably were closed more than 5 years ago. One hostel in bondi beach that I wanted to go that was listed in the book. When I showed up in the hotel address, there was a internet café and pub. No hostel at all.
Second. The most unbelieveable of all, the book I have, which is 2004 version, has no mention at all about the Olympic Village in Sydeny. Oh my God! Sydney Olympic was in 2000. Can you believe that after 4 years, they still didn't update it? I was reading it again and again, before I throw this book away to trash can, I still didn't belive that they can omit all the information about Olympic, like the village, the boat to go there, like the stadium... they pretend that there is no such a thing!
I know that Lonely Plante started many years ago in Australia, by some Australian backpackers. So it is a REAL shame that Lonely Planet Australia is so bad. If there is negative score, I will give that. As one star is minimum, I have to give that. But my true belief is that this book deserves negative 5 stars!!!
Unless These Books Bring Back Destinations and Hostel Listings They'll Be Lonely on the Shelves Due to New Better Competitors.......2005-12-18
Since the late 90's Lonely Planet have been dwindling down the number of destinations and hostel listings in these guides and replacing that space with more five star hotels, fine dining and other useless information backpackers will never use. In this edition Lonely Planet lists the most expensive Hotel in Australia, Palazzo Versace in their Gold Coast accommodation listings. They are so out of touch with their target market now it is not funny.
Buy the Backpackers Ultimate Guide (BUG) Australia instead as it is what Lonely Planet and Lets Go used to be. A comprehensive coverage of all hostels in a destination, not just the one or two that pay to be listed and no weight increasing space taking up useless information that we backpackers do not want to lug around an entire continent.
If you can find an old copy from ten years ago buy it otherwise give Lonely Planet a miss!
Book Description
As one of the foremost public intellectuals of the twentieth century, Hannah Arendt is well known for her writings on political philosophy. Less familiar are her significant contributions to cultural and literary criticism. This edition brings together for the first time Arendt’s reflections on literature and culture. The essays include previously unpublished and untranslated material drawn from half a century of engagement with the works of European and American authors, poets, journalists, and literary critics, including such diverse figures as Proust, Melville, Auden, and Brecht.
Intended for a wide readership, this volume has the potential to change our view of Arendt by introducing her not only as one of the leading political theorists of her generation, but also as a serious, committed, and highly original literary and cultural critic. Gottlieb’s introduction ties the work together, showing how Arendt developed a form of literary and cultural analysis that is entirely her own.

Book Description
It was the year that changed everything.
When Susannah Nelson turned eighteen, her parents sent her to school abroad. She said goodbye to her boyfriend, Jake -- and never saw him again. She never saw her brother again, either; Doug died in a car accident while she was away.
Now, at fifty, she finds herself regretting the paths not taken. Especially the chance to be with Jake . . . Long married, a mother and a teacher, she should be happy. But she feels there's something missing, although she doesn't know exactly what. Not only that, she's balancing the demands of an aging mother and a temperamental twenty-year-old daughter.
Because her mother, Vivian, a recent widow, is having difficulty coping and living alone, Susannah prepares to make some hard decisions. In returning to her hometown of Colville, Washington, to her parents' house, her girlhood friends and the garden she's always loved, she also returns to the past -- and the choices she made back then.
What she discovers is that things are not always as they once seemed. Some paths are dead ends. But some gardens remain beautiful . . .

Susannah's Garden.......2007-09-10
This is a light and easy read by Debbie Macomber. It was relaxing and a feel good book.
I really wanted to like this book but..........2007-08-27
Susannah's Garden had so much potential. There was so much going on Susannah's dealing with the lingering issues with her father who died recently who was dictorial and distant who sent her away from home to get her away from her boyfriend Jake and wouldn't let her come home when her brother was killed in a car accident. Its also becoming clear that her mother Vivan is no longer able to care for herself and Susannah must deal with the painful decision to put her mother in assisted living and decide what to do with her childhood home and memories. Susannah's clearly having a midlife crisis has began dreaming about Jake and the "what ifs" despite the fact she's married with two almost grown children. Susannah decides to go home to Colville to deal with her mother. Her daughter Chrissie shows up and begins dating a boy Susannah doesn't approve off and Susannah finds herself in her father's position. It all had the set up to being really good as Susannah worked throught all of the issues but the author fails in the execution of dealing with the issues and ending the book. Spoilers follow. The extent that Susannah went to search for Jake without ever really considering the fact she was putting her own marriage at risk or what it might do to her husband or kids made it really difficult to be rooting for Susannah. Not that it really mattered because when Susannah's husband did find out Susannah hired a PI to hunt down her ex-boyfriend they have one small argument on the phone and...that's it. That's it? One argument on the phone? Susannah makes a comment later that they've worked everything out without to the reader how that happened. After all the build up to it and there's no fallout? No real showing Susannah of what her actions had done? I would have liked even just one scene where Susannah worried that she might have just cost herself her marriage. Then there's the learning of what really happened to Jake..and what really happened to her brother Doug. Jake was killed in the car accident instead of her brother Doug who assumed his identy and had been hiding out for decades from the police who wanted him for a federal crime he had return to Colville pretending to be someone else and dating her Susannah's friend. Instead of coming up with a way to either clear Doug of all the charges or some normal resoltion instead the author decides to not do any of these things but just keep Doug leaving under his assumed identy including not telling his mother that he's alive. Sure Vivan met him but has assumed in her altmizer's mind that he's the ghost of her dead husband. That's a solution? All I could think was how cruel what was? Never let the poor woman know her son is alive? What about Jake's father who doesn't even know his son is dead? It just seem all wrong to me. Not to mention the odds of dodging the government for the rest of his life. The same with Susannah's decision to pay off her daughter's boyfriend (like her father had done with Jake) to get him out of her life. Sure the boyfriend's a two timing lowlife who offered the deal to Susannah but...Susannah actually pays him? And this is the solution to get him out of Chrissie's life? How about Chrissie finding out her boyfriend's a lowlife? Maybe even learn something from the experience or realize she deserves a lot more from a boyfriend or the satasfication that comes from kicking the lowlife to the curb? Instead the author creates solutions for the problems that aren't solutions at all. That really's sad because it could have been a really good book.
Just Okay.......2007-07-20
This book is okay but nothing great. The characters lack depth. I figured out the main plot twist about halfway through. Susannah and her husband are annoying parents whose relationship with their daughter, Chrissie, makes no sense. Chrissie's parents are professionals, but their biggest dream for Chrissie seems to be that she become either a housewife or a housekeeper; I don't blame the kid for wanting to get away from them. There are some things about the ending that don't make sense, either, but I don't want to give anything away so I'll just leave those out.
Very realistic.......2007-07-17
I really enjoyed this book. I have been a fan of Debbie's for a very long time. For once, this story was based upon a 50 year old woman taking care of her elderly mother. I am currenly in the same situation and it was nice to read about realistic life issues. I read anything she publishes.
Relaxing reading.......2007-07-16
I enjoyed this book immensely. As a new Debbie Macomber fan, this was a wonderful introduction for me. I found it a very realistic book, as the condition of Susannah's aging Mom is similar to my own. I identified with lots of the story and loved the sweet way the book ends. I heartily recommend it.
