Book Description
She charmed America with her smart, likable, down-to-earth personality as she campaigned for her husband, then vice-presidential candidate John Edwards. She inspired millions as she valiantly fought advanced breast cancer after being diagnosed only days before the 2004 election. She touched hundreds of similarly grieving families when her own son, Wade, died tragically at age sixteen in 1996. Now she shares her experiences in Saving Graces, an incandescent memoir of Edwards’ trials, tragedies, and triumphs, and of how various communities celebrated her joys and lent her steady strength and quiet hope in darker times.
Edwards writes about growing up in a military family, where she learned how to make friends easily in dozens of new schools and neighborhoods around the world and came to appreciate the unstinting help and comfort naval families shared. Edwards’ reminiscences of her years as a mother focus on the support she and other parents offered one another, from everyday favors to the ultimate test of her own community’s strength—their compassionate response to the death of the Edwards’ teenage son, Wade, in 1996. Her descriptions of her husband’s campaigns for Senate, president, and vice president offer a fascinating perspective on the groups, great and small, that sustain our democracy. Her fight with breast cancer, which stirred an outpouring of support from women across the country, has once again affirmed Edwards’ belief in the power of community to make our lives better and richer.

saving graces.......2007-09-24
Felt this book artfully expressed loss. It included the gammet of feelings and expressions one might endure while experiencing loss of any type. Hopefully she also found solace in teaching us as well as finding herself. Would recommend to anyone because at some point, we all experience loss. Hopefully not as Elizabeth Edwards did.
My honor to read this life journey of E. Edwards.......2007-09-19
The book is a gift of her use of the English language. The use of words, the integrity of the writer shines through. She uses her gift to share her pain, pain many of us have felt but could not have put into words with the artistry that is just part of her. It is rare for a person to be able to put their soul in paper, but she has. Thank you, Elizabeth. Saving Graces: Finding Solace and Strength from Friends and Strangers
Saving Graces.......2007-09-17
Great book, well written. It makes you realize you can overcome any obstacle in life with family and support from friends.
Excellent........2007-09-14
Eliabeth Edwards writes with painful honesty and hope. She is an extrordinary woman and this glimpse into her soul is a wonderful read.
Wonderful book!.......2007-09-13
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I got a whole new insight into the Edwards family. Elizabeth didn't shy away from the pain caused by the untimely death of their wonderful son, Wade, or her initial experience of her breast cancer treatment. There is also an additional chapter in this paperback book regarding the return of her cancer. Her humor cracked me up several times, and I was so inspired by the whole family. They are certainly a strong family, both Elizabeth and John come from strong stock, and it shows. I for one, given the chance, will vote for John Edwards for President. I think he's the one we need to lead this country ahead and away from our current administration's boggling.

In this hilarious and insightful essay collection, nationally syndicated humor columnist Lisa Earle McLeod turns traditional thinking on its head by asking:
Can Sponge Bob get you into Mensa?
Why isn't Pocahontas president of the United States?
Does Buddha need Botox?
Why is marriage as fun as dating?
What if peace were sexy?
Where have all the dumb girls gone?
Can you become CEO by standing next to the water cooler?
Always funny, often touching and sometimes politically incorrect, Finding Grace When You Can't even Find Clean Underwear is a wickedly funny take on the people and problems that vex us all.
An expert in mommy guilt, corporate disillusionment, marital misery, slacker parenting, faux housework, flat-line libidos and drive-thru spirituality McLeod brings a touch of grace to the angst of daily life.

Could have been better.......2007-09-16
From the other reviews I expected a funny, laugh out loud book about motherhood but I never once found myself laughing out loud. It was okay. She kinda just rambled from one thing to another. Didn't keep me interested and wanting to come back for more.
For a blend of everyday living advice, humor, and spiritual insights, this can't be beat.......2007-07-09
If divine laughter paired with spiritual insights is needed for a collection strong in spirituality, then Finding Grace When You Can't Even Find Clean Underwear is the perfect item of choice. It discusses what's important and what's not in the scheme of realizing spirituality in everyday living, and it chapters are as zany as 'Are Corporate Witches Getting a Bum Rap?' to 'Can you Blackberry Your Way to Happiness?' For a blend of everyday living advice, humor, and spiritual insights, this can't be beat and its title alone will have any general-interest public library lending collection excited.
So funny.....and true!!.......2007-05-02
I laughed 'til I cried!! Oh so funny but true. First get this book for yourself and then get it for every woman on your list...mom's day, teachers' end of year gift, etc. The man in your life could use it, too.
Wonderful and witty.......2007-03-25
Lisa McLeod scores with this wonderful look into the lives of 21st Century women and issues of today. The collection of stories is hilarious, heartfelt and leaves you feeling as if finally, here's a woman who "gets it." She is a rare combination of compassion with razor sharp wit.
Hilarious! I couldn't stop laughing!.......2007-03-13
Lisa Earle McLeod must be the long-lost love child of Erma Bombeck and Scott Peck: She serves up spiritual enlightenment, savvy business advice, and deadly-accurate relationship insights with a wit is so deliciously wicked, you'll laugh 'till your frappuccino comes shooting out of your nose. My favorite chapters were: Does Budda need Botox? Is Your Brain Ruining Your Life? and Why Does Mom Always Hold the Barf Bucket?
McLeod is a true original: smart, funny, spritual and insightful -- all squeezed into a french fry box.
I devour her newspaper column every week, I loved this book, and I can't wait to read her other ones.
Product Description
Empty. Corrupted. Tormented. Starved. These words describe the Christian sex addict. No matter what he (or she) does, he will not experience true freedom from the bondage of sexual addiction until he finds the life, love and acceptance he yearns for. The inner pull to feed at the garbage can of lust must be replaced with something real, alive and lasting... something so wonderful that the short-lived pleasure of sex is nothing in comparison... a love so powerful it overflows even the hardest heart with joy. The Road to Grace begins by providing the reader with the tools needed to break free from the bondage to sexual sin with a straight-forward, Biblical approach. But this is just the beginning of the journey, as gaining true freedom from lust is about much more than learning to control external acts. The Road to Grace delves into the wounds and lies in the heart that block the reader from receiving God's love, and then guides him to the place where he can accept the free gift of the abundant life in Christ that many yearn for but few believe they can have. Topics addressed include: * Biblical methods for overcoming sexual temptation. * Finding healing from shame. * How to stop a masturbation habit. * Facing and dealing with the core issues of the heart that drive sexual addiction. * Healing for sexual abuse and father wound issues. * Understanding and accepting the grace of God in the heart. * Healing for the wives of husbands who are sex addicts. * How to restore a marriage that s been scarred by sexual addiction/adultery.
Book Description
What do your spiritual convictions have to do with traffic jams, job anxiety, reading the newspaper, or arguing with your spouse? Everything, according to Marianne Williamson. It is the way we live in our everyday world that determines the shape of who we are. So Buddhist or Muslim, Christian or Jew, it is the moment when our daughter doesn't make the basketball team, or our best friend lands our dream job, or our business instinct tells us to bury the guy across the boardroom table that tests and builds our living faith.
With an attitude of hope, a call to forgive, a celebration of miracles, and the promise of strength and grace, Williamson helps us find our sacred footing on ordinary ground.
No matter where we are or what we're doing, there is the opportunity to be happy, and to be holy. The large and small difficulties of our days challenge us to open our hearts and minds. And in this book of hours, Marianne Williamson teaches us to ride the currents that lurk in each of those moments of opening to a sea change of the soul.

The Psychobabble continues.......2007-03-22
Marianne Williamson's take on grace, mysticism, miracles, and so forth are an attempt to bring feel good spirituality into life. Williamson's text, A Course in Miracles, is the basis point for her teachings. Everyday grace is one of the more recent hodge podges of spirituality offered in an eclectic mix from Williamson whose mantra of love casts out all fear continues in her theological constructs. The one thing is .... everyday grace is far more simple than it seems. Everyday grace is about being in the flow. Williamson conjures up more feel good spirituality which she is known for.
I was surprised.......2006-08-06
I bought this book some time ago and never read it. All the hoopla turned me off (you know, Oprah and the like- I DO love Oprah, but she often picks such trying stories). Today I sat down with EveryDay Grace and pretty soon I was looking for a pencil to mark passages I want to find again. WOW. I wasn't expecting this little book to have messages I've been needing to hear. Of course, timing is everything, but I wouldn't pass on this book if you are looking for a way to connect your spiritual life with your everyday life.
High Spirits and Optimism for Our Future.......2006-07-07
Purity of heart will not make us poor. THe exaltation of poverty as a spiritual virtue is of the ego. The ego is the great fault-finder. In 'A Return to Love,' she explains her interpretation of the fairy tale, "The Frog Prince": in this story, a princess kisses a frog and he becomes a prince. We all know that. The great exhorter feels that it reveals the deep psychological connection between our attitudes toward people and their capacity for tranformation. What the kiss signified is the miraculous power of love to create a context in which people naturally blossom into their highest potential.
A miracle worker is an artist of the soul, an artist who exposes the masks we all wear. The reason so many are obsessed with becoming stars is because they're not starring in their own lives. The cosmic spotlight is not pointed at you; it radiates from within you. If we wait for the world's permission to shine, we will never receive it. The dreaded ego doesn't give that permission. The ego's world is based on finite resources.
Love is the essential existential fact. To experience love in ourselves and others is the meaning of life. Love is the intuitive knowledge of our hearts in the forms of kindness, giving, mercy, compassion, peace, joy, acceptance, non-judgment, joining and intimacy. Love is within us. The world we knew as children is still buried within our minds.
Fear is the opposite of love with forms like anger, abuse, pain, greed, addiction, selfishness, obsession, corruption, violence and war. Forgiveness is the key to inner peace because it is the technique by which our thoughts are transformed from fear to love. It's almost impossible to let go of your perception of someone's guilt when you know that by every standard of ethics, morality, or integrity, you're right to find fault with them.
We need to let the past go; only love is real. Hate wins us nothing except enemies and animosity.
Make Every Day An Extraordinary Day!.......2006-06-08
In Everyday Grace, my favorite spiritual author, Marianne Williamson, demonstrates the miraculous effect of living a life of unconditional love and forgiveness. Every single day, and in every single way, we experience grace, ease, joy, peace, and fulfillment when we connect to the divine spirit of love that lies within us. This is not an esoteric book. It is filled with practical examples of how to handle many of the common issues we all struggle with on a daily basis. Bless you, Marianne, for this inspired work.
Steven Lane Taylor, Author of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat: A Guide for Living Life in the Divine Flow."
Soul Food.......2006-03-29

Authors Rick Rusaw and Eric Swanson lead their readers to a new awareness of the true owner and source of life. Through personal examples and hundreds of heartwarming stories of selfless living, the reader is challenged to move from living a life of dull routine to a life filled with passion and the pursuit of purposeful adventure filled living.
The underlying theme of the book is the life story of the reader and how this relates to God's bigger story. The reader is: encouraged to record his passions, purpose, priorities and values; to examine how they connect with other's stories; to recognize resources to help, with others, write new endings to their stories; and commit to making a difference beyond life here on earth.
The authors encourage the reader to write the "rest of the story" of their own lives by using the questions at the end of each chapter to record personal responses to soul-searching questions that incorporate what they know into action steps for serving others.
I personally appreciated the reminder that, "Regardless of who we are, everything we do and say every day can have significant value." I became motivated to become intentionally and passionately aware of opportunities to influence and impact lives in the "everyday intersections" of my life.
Rick and Eric write in an easy- to-read style that will help the reader to assimilate and apply these important principles personally. It is rich in example for the questioning seeker as well as the mature Christian. This is a book that will help you discover your potential and motivate you to fulfill God's intended purpose for your "life on loan."
"Living a Life on Loan" is filled with profound truths, clearly articulated, simply illustrated with practical stories of serving others, building relationships, and earning the right to share your faith.
Life on Loan.......2006-09-28
Rick Rusaw and Eric Swanson remind us how vital it is to be active in the community. Yes, we can make a difference in our corner of the world - one person at a time. Living a Life on Loan reminded me that I need to use my God given abilites to help others around me.

Disappointment Supreme.......2007-08-05
I waited anxiously for my delivery of this book, as I had great hopes after reading the subject of the book. I was expecting something of spiritual inspiration. After reading the book, I was supremely disappointed, because I found absolutely nothing of spiritual value at all. Being a writer myself, and working on a similar book, I expected to get some inspiration for my own book. The only help I got was to think that if I can't do better than that, I will scrap the script before it ever goes to the "Printer". I hope the "Author", Kent, got some satisfaction in the Writing of it!
Writing Tides and me.......2007-08-03
Hello
I am going to write a short review of the book that I purchased from you in that you asked me to do so.
I am an freelance writer in Longmont, Colorado and a Christian who believes that strong christian writing has a place in our society. I am currently working on church history, evangelism and the politics of church and state. I formerly taught United States Government on the high school level and my religion was taught me by my Southern Baptist father during my formative years.
This book has taught me much about the organization of writing. he also mentions several resource items that I have in my possession.
Since the author lives in Denver, I would very much like to meet him to discuss writing.

The Chicago Roots of Your Family Tree
For almost 175 years, a great metropolis on the shores of a freshwater sea has sent a siren call to immigrants internal and external, giving most Americans some kind of link to the City of Big Shoulders. Whether your people came west from New England in the early days of settlement, or north from Mississippi in the Great Migration; whether they sailed from Sweden and Sicily, or flew from Budapest and Prague; whether they settled here permanently or temporarily, this easy-to-use reference guide will help you document them.
Family historian Grace DuMelle provides the means to trace your Chicago connections like a pro. She shows you not just what to research, but how to research. Without wading through lots of preliminaries, choose any of the self-contained chapters that focus on the questions beginners most want answered and jump right in!
Where do I start?
When and where was my ancestor born?
When did my ancestor come to America?
What did my ancestor do for a living?
Where did my ancestor live?
Where is my ancestor buried?
Other chapters cover the nuts and bolts of the mechanics that are the key to making your family's past come alive, with highlights summarizing important points:
Examples of documents such as death certificates, church registers and U.S. census entries.
Chicago-area research facilities: what they have and how to access it.
Researching using newspapers, machines and catalogs.
Sources for specific ethnic research.
Sources for long-distance research.
In finding your Chicago ancestors, you will not only better understand your and your family's history, but also your and your family's involvement in the history of a great American city.

Did you know that in 1909 all residential streets in Chicago were renumbered? And that it was not an Illinois state requirement until 1916 to file birth certificates? These are just a couple of nuggets of information you will find helpful in your ancestral research when you read Grace DuMelle's "Finding Your Chicago Ancestors". This book is an invaluable tool for beginners as well as seasoned researchers looking for historical family back ground.
This book is comprised of 16 chapters that aid the researcher in tracing their Chicago
ancestors. Each chapter ends with a Points to Remember section that condenses the information in the chapter into an easy to use checklist. What's also unique is the unintended time line that explains where data can be found for the last two centuries.
Included in this 321 page book are numerous websites and buildings in Chicago and Cook County that house many materials that are not available on line.
This is one of the best genealogical resources for finding your ancestors that I have read. What makes it more unique is that its information is solely targeted for Chicago. But even if you're not searching for a past family member of Chicago, this book is useful because it explains how to research using historical documents. There is so much hands-on interactive information that, with the help of this book, searching for the roots of your family tree will be fun and easy to do.
Grace DuMelle's background in historical research and her connections with many Chicago historical organizations is quite striking. It's a real bonus that she put all that knowledge and expertise into this great book for all to read. Definitely a book to own!
Finding Your Chicago Ancestors.......2006-02-06
This book was a true pleasure to read! Grace Dumelle has taken what could be a very complicated topic, and she has presented it in an organized and easy to follow format.
I have not done any geneology work, but reading this book inspired me to try to get several questions about my ancestors answered.
I now have a much better sense of where to start my search.
I recommend this book highly.

Wow! This story will grab your attention and your heart........2001-10-22
Whether you are spiritual or religious (they are NOT the same thing) this book will speak to you. In times where many don't know their neighbor or where many humans view others who are different with suspicion --this book reminds us of what is important.
This autobiographical account is engaging and hard to put down. The stories and struggles of the growth of a ministry/church called "Graffiti" is set in a Lower East Side neighborhood in New York. It is poignant and speaks about the joys, heartaches, and relationships in day-to-day life.
Given the 9/11/01 events this book is well timed to remind us to get back to basics.....love, trust, kindness and honesty cross all barriers. We just need to remember...........

Grafitti is Beautiful!.......2001-09-21
An amazing book of love and grace. Taylor Field and his family are shining examples of servant evangelism. They moved out of their comfort zone to love the unloved in the harsh streets of NYC. There are not too many of those people who call themselves ministers who would do such a thing. If you read the Bible (and I mean really read it) you'll find that Jesus didn't stand in a pulpit, wearing a designer suit, shouting at the world to "get saved or suffer the fires of hell." No, he walked among us, loved us, touched us, helped us, and eventually, died for us. Field has taken the challenges Jesus set before us to heart and this book tells his (unfinished) story. I myself have ministered on the streets of NY. It's tough. (I was only there 2 weeks) Field lives there. He walks among them, loves them, touches them and helps them. Something tells me he would die for them. For inspiration and a look at the Great Commission at work, read this book.

I found "Finding Grace" to be very entertaining and inspirational for both myself and my children. The retelling of the parable of the lost sheep is done in such a way that children can relate and the illustrations show a talent that is uncommonly exquisite for a childrens book.
