The Princess and the Kiss.......2007-09-14
This was a cute book but a bit odd....it was hard to explain why the "kiss" looked like the sun and does that mean I can't kiss mommy and daddy and g-ma and g-pa?...so I had to ad lib a bit...
A wonderful book for Protestants and Catholics alike.......2007-08-27
As an EXTREMELY picky traditional Catholic homeschooler, I usually have a difficult time finding books that are in sync with keeping our children pure and innocent yet also preparing them for the world. This book does both. Even thought the book is not Catholic, it is very Christian and has nothing contrary to the Catholic faith in my opinion. Quite the contrary, it backs up exactly what I want to teach my daughter, and in a beautiful, innocent, and captivating way. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and my 4 year old daughter just LOVED the book. The two younger toddler boys happened to like them alot as well, even if they don't understand the finer details! The wonderful thing about this book is that it goes the "extra mile". Not only does it teach that in order to keep your purity you must keep your virginity, but it also (rightly) teaches that there's alot more to purity than just not going that "last step", but that saving your "kiss" is an honorable thing also to be treasured. Highly recommend!
Little girl's story with a big girl message- great book!.......2007-07-17
This is a great Catholic book on purity! I would definately recommend it! I would also recommend the boys' book: "The Squire and the Scroll", also by Jennie Bishop. Both should be on every christain family's book shelf!
The Prince and the Kiss.......2007-06-10
Very good way to lead to many discussion on purity and why to wait until marriage. Nice illustrations too! I highly recommend. In fact, I just ordered copies to hand out as the goody bag treat at my daughter's princess party. She liked the book so much that she requested we hand them out.
A very bazaar book -- not for preschoolers, better for teens........2007-06-02
The Princess and the Kiss: A Story of God's Gift of Purity was written by Jennie Bishop for her daughters. She explains her goal on the back cover of the book: "I asked God how I could teach my young daughters the value of their purity, how I could begin in their early years to stress the importance and beauty of saving themselves for marriage."
The story, like most fairy tales, begins with a wonderful castle in a majestic kingdom. There a princess is born to the king and queen. On the day of her birth they give her a very special gift from God -- "her first kiss." The king and queen take care of her kiss while she is growing and, when she is old enough, they give it to her and explain how special it is. "This kiss is yours to keep ... or to give away, as you see fit." Her father warns her to use wisdom and save her kiss for the man she will marry.
Eventually suitors come calling. One is prideful and full of himself. Another is rich and another romantic. The princess finds reasons to dismiss them all. None are good enough for her kiss. Finally a poor farmer approaches her. He has nothing to give her but his very first kiss, which he has saved just for her. They are married and live happily ever after.
The book concludes by quoting 1 Timothy 1:5 -- "Love ... comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith." (NIV)
Preston McDaniels does a fantastic job as illustrator. The pages are filled with pastel colors, regal details and enchanting characters. Perfectly fitting for the tone of the story.
What I Like: The concept. It is important to teach children the value of purity. The author has tackled a difficult subject for a young audience. I love the illustrations! I wish they were more colorful, but they are so classic and beautiful.
What I Dislike: I found this book very odd. The intended audience is far too young for such a detailed metaphor. It's confusing. Does this mean we shouldn't kiss anyone? What if we find a good man who has already given away his "kiss"? Do only poor people know the value of their "kisses"? The story, I felt, was too simplistic in its conclusions. I have friends who love this book and read it often to their preschoolers. I love the idea of teaching the lesson early, but feel this book is more appropriate for older girls: tweens and above. I still haven't read it to our daughter(three years old).
Overall Rating: For the suggested age range: Poor. For teengagers: Good.
Age Appeal: 4-8 (according to the publisher), but I recommend 10 and above.

For those children of the King of Kings!.......2007-04-26
If you have a "little princess" in your home, you have to read this book. I laughed so hard at little Gigi and her "misunderstanding" that being a little princess meant that she was really royalty, when in fact Walsh drives home that point that all God's children are royalty, heirs to the throne and children of the King of Kings! Gigi is a mess, but what a fun way to bring home this concept to children. With the help of her cat Lord Fluffy and her loyal subject and friend Frances, Gigi comes to the self-awareness that life is about more than just her - and the great news is that Gigi learns that she truly is royalty, but not in a kingdom that will rust and be destroyed, but rather in an eternal Kingdom where she will reign forever!
Great read for boys and girls - but your little princess will especially love this book!
Excellent Story!.......2007-04-09
This is a great book!!! My daughter loves all of the Gigi books, but this is her favorite so far. After stating the fact that we are all children of the King of Kings at the end, it doesn't go into any details of what that means. I think this makes it even better because it allows us to have conversations with our children. My princess & I have had many great bedtime talks about this, and I love it! The book is very funny. Gigi is full of herself, but it is also a great underlying lesson about pride. Her bubble gets burst when she discovers she is indeed NOT the only princess! GREAT BOOK! Buy it!
Don't bother!.......2007-01-11
I was disappointed with the content. The pictures are delightful, and for that reason only, it got 2 stars. I found the story line thin, when in fact, the truth that we are ALL children of the King is really quite profound. Gigi is completely absorbed with herself - not a worthy role model. This is not because we don't suffer the same, but because she does not move from that position and it is not addressed or reinforced by anyone else in her life. Her father abdicates from the discussion, her mother gives her a one liner and her friend she considers her "subject". I thought Gigi was quite horrid!
Daughter loves it.......2006-07-02
My daughter loves this book and wants us to read it to her all the time before bed.
Can't wait to read the ending...........2005-12-28
My 4-year-old daughter received this book - it was her gift she opened on Christmas eve. We sat by the lighted Christmas tree and fire and she settled into my lap for a goodread. The illustrations ARE precious, as other reviewers have said. The story started off beautifully - very believable for a little girl. We got to the part about "the King" and I got intrigued as to how the writer would explain this - then the book ended. It just ENDED. No further explanation, no further story. Just a few more pages would have turned this almost good book into possibly a great book. I am sad that it didn't make it - I had high hopes. Perhaps you might want to check it out from the library first to see what I mean. :( (I did give it 2 stars because of the sweet illustration and the beginnings of a good book.)

I highly recommend this devotional bible for girls!.......2007-06-19
This particular order was a gift for my niece because we already own this book. My daughters (Ages 9 and 6) and I have recently finished our copy and enjoyed it so much we wanted to share it with their cousin. What little girl doesn't want to be a princess? This book was very appropriate for their ages and has furthered not only their knowledge of God but their relationship with Him also. I highly recommend this book!
Great Devotional Bible for Kids.......2007-06-08
My 4 yr. old grandaughter loves her new Devotional Bible. The stories are understandable even to a 4 yr. old. The questions make her think and she always knows the right answer. I feel this book will help in shaping her into the kind of young woman God wants her to be.

Four year old gets the Spirit.......2007-05-31
My granddaughter has been in love with princesses since meeting Sleeping Beauty at age 2 1/2.She has every princess costume there is.She also has heard stories of Queen Esther and other Bible Ladies. I gave the Princess Devotional Bible for her 4th birthday ahead of all the other dolls and toys. She was delighted and I sensed there was a special sacred attachment for it.Immediately she wanted to take her Princess Bible to church. The one drawback for me was NO pictures or illustrations of what these women might have resembled. If the adage is true, "a picture is worth a thousand words" that would be my one suggestion. A great little book.
God's Little Princess Devotional Bible: Bible Storybook.......2007-01-16
This is an awesome first bible for my daughter who is getting this for her 2nd birthday.
Wonderful!.......2007-01-10
This is a great book for those of you with little girls. I have a 3 and a 5 yr-old and they are so "girly" it's just funny. They love anything to do with "princess." To read about God and refer to our girls as His princesses was just a truly wonderful concept. I'm very glad to have purchased this adorable white and PINK book... very colorful and very fun. My princesses sure do love it! If your little one is a princess with a heartfelt love of PINK, you must consider this one!

JOHN CARTER of MARS - Volume 1 - The Princess of Mars & The Gods of Mars. John Carter is a red blooded American civil war hero and fighting man from Virginia. A strange incident whilst prospecting in Apache country propels him to Mars where he immediately encounters the enormous war-like green men of Mars and the planets equally alien landscapes, animals and technology. Soon Carter falls in with the red men (and their beautiful red women) and his non-stop adventures begin. Classic early science fiction from the creator of Tarzan - here are the first two novels of John Carter's Martian adventures - soon to be entirely published by Leonaur.

Leonaur Ltd. is publishing the definitive Edgar Rice Burroughs 21st century editions........2007-04-12
Leonaur Ltd. is publishing the definitive Edgar Rice Burroughs 21st century editions. These usually contain 2 books of the different ERB major series in order - thus far John Carter, Pellucidar, and Carson of Venus. In the future, possibly Tarzan!
These books are handsome and my rating is mainly based on this - the ERB fan knows best about the rest of it.
This first volume of Joh Carter of Mars contains 2/3 of the greatest science fiction/fantasy trilogy ever. What is nore remarkable is that these were published over 40 years before Tolkien's LOTR and over 50 before Tolkien became fashionable. "A Princess of Mars", "The Gods of Mars", and "The Warlord of Mars" are ERB's greatest work.
It is sad, in a way, that Tarzan obscures ERBs Mars novels for the general public. These books deserve to be beter known, and it is astonishing no movie or TV adaptation has ever been attempted (which might be a good thing, after all!). If only Steven Spielberg or Peter Jackson were interested!
Of course, genre and ERB aficionados have long know and cherised these great stories. I wonder how many others were first attracted to these by the magnificent Ballantine editions of the 1960s?
If you are a fan as am I, support Leonaur Ltd.'s efforts by buying these magnificent books.
John Carter of Mars - volume 1 - The Princess of Mars & The Gods of Mars (John Carter of Mars).......2007-02-21
Great reprint of this great classic science fiction / fantasy series. Much appreciated. Looking forward to purchasing the remainder of the series when they are published.

Perfect for your little princess!!!.......2007-01-11
What a sweet book for all the King's daughters! I purchased the first Gigi book at Women of Faith convention in 2005, for my then three-year old daughter. After seeing how much she loved that one, I knew I had to get Sheila's latest addition to the collection. The Royal Tea Party is just as good!! A special story to show our daughters that we are ALL daughters of the King!!! A definite must-have, in my opinion.
Goofy Girls.......2007-01-03
What a WONDERFUL book that brings out the nature of little girls but realizing how special it is to be God's. I don't have girls, but it's my favorite gift to little girls.
Book Description
Gigi and her best friend, Frances, take their first dance lesson after Gigi reads half of a verse in Psalms about praising God in dance. With reluctant practice and awkward help from Tiara (her new dog) and Lord Fluffy (her not-so-cooperative cat), Gigi struggles to dance perfectly to God proud of her. Then Gigi learns that God looks at our hearts, not how perfectly we do things, and that God is proud of us when we are kind to others.

Offering security and purpose to all of God's little princesses.......2007-03-29
The Pink Ballerina is the newest book in the Gigi series, written by Sheila Walsh, which follows a little girl who knows she is God's princess. In this book, Gigi is on a mission to praise God. Her memory verse (Psalm 149:3) encourages her to do this through dance. When she and her best friend, Frances, join a ballet class, Gigi's tiara and feather boa cause some trouble. Gigi is devastated. She thinks if she can't dance well, she can't be God's princess. That night her father puts those fears to rest. "... you are God's little princess because He chose you, not because of anything you do or how well you do it." He goes on to explain how she can show God she loves Him in lots of different ways.
Illustrated by Meredith Johnson, the Gigi books are perfectly feminine. Each character is full of expression. There's not a ton of color -- it is done mostly in greyscale and pink -- but the illustrations are excellent. They add tremendous value to this book.
What I Like: The story is delightful, reaching out to the princess-crazed generation with a new message. In a wonderfully simple way, the author addresses the security of believers. She instills in young girls the truth that God loves them no matter what they do or how they look. He loves them because He chose them. The Scripture emphasis is great.
What I Dislike: It's a little long and seems to lose focus at some points. Also, some details are lost if readers are not familiar with the series. For example, the story references Tiara and Lord Fluffy, but readers may be lost, not knowing these are the names of Gigi's pets.
Overall: A very good book!
One final note ... The age recommendation says 9-12, but I would say more like 4-10. My 3-year-old loves this book!

Doris Orgel revitalizes the tale of Cupid and Psyche as a charming coming-of-age story, told mainly in the first person by 16-year-old Psyche. Writing for preteens and young adolescents, Ms. Orgel describes with honesty, grace, and diplomacy Psyche's experience of love and marriage to Venus' own son Cupid. Through the supernatural ordeals Psyche encounters as penance and education for her inability to remain innocent to her husband's identity, the depth of a young woman's heart is revealed.
Book Description
Told from the compelling point of view of Psyche herself, here is the intensely romantic story of a mortal princess, Psyche, and the god who loves her. Psyche is so beautiful that Cupid's mother, Venus, becomes jealous. She commands her son to inflame Psyche with love for a monster. Instead, Cupid falls instantly in love with Psyche, and he spirits her away to a magical fortress. But Psyche and Cupid will be tested further. Their love will take them to the underworld and back before the reader reaches the satisfyingly triumphant conclusion.

THE BEST.......2001-09-30
this is the best book you could possibly read!! It is so good, I finished it for everyday of the week for two weeks! I've been trying to find this book ever sence I checked it out from the library. So if you're looking for a good book, you just found it!
beautiful masterpeice.......2001-06-08
Not only is this novella beautifully written, but it is also a fast and enjoyable read. I spend many nights dreaming of the actions that occur between the two main characters-Cupid and Psyche-just to try and re-experience its spender. Based on the mythological love affair that was forbidden by Cupid's own jealous mother, Venus, Orgel portrays the struggle for true love that occurs between the godly mortal Psyche, and the love-stricken God Cupid. Through sensual verses and phrases the theme of true happiness and passion leave the reader begging for another chapter. I recommend this book to anyone who loves mythology like myself as well as forbidden romance, for it is truly a wonderful combination of the two.
Wonderful!.......2001-01-25
I devoured this beautiful book in an hour. Full of romance, it retells the story of "Cupid and Psyche" expanding the characters of both protagonists, making them likable and offering interesting insights into their minds and hearts. If you enjoy mythology and fairy tales, you definitely need to read this book!
