Book Description
The elegant styling and exquisite detail of traditional fisherman's knits are brought to life in Alice Starmore's 20 original sweater designs for men, women, and children.
Customer Reviews:
Several wonderful Starmore classics........2007-05-04
Most of the sweater patterns in this classic book are for "ganseys" - not Aran sweaters, with the exception of two sweaters, although most of the ganseys offer cables, lace knitting etc. Two of the designs are Norwegian inspired using Fair Isle construction techniques, and one design has both colorwork and gansey design features. Thirteen out of the 20 designs are written for knitting in the round, up to the underarms. Finally, several of the patterns were written for a Rowan yarn that shrinks considerably after washing. There is only one pattern in the book for men, although, some might view some of the other designs as unisex. (Some are more delicate, made with a combination, wool/silk blend yarn.) You can probably see a photograph of many of the finished designs by doing a Google image search using the names of the designs: Stornoway, Eriskay, Lochinver, Fife, Cornwall, Norfolk, Scarborough, Filey, Inishmore, Inishmaan, Inisheer, Kinsale, Norway, Faroe, Baltic, Breton, Mystic, Nantucket, and Cape Cod. The Eriskay gansey for women, the Stornoway gansey for men and the Inishmore Aran are all Starmore classics. The Fife pattern for a young child is also very precious. This book is sure to become more expensive over time like the other Starmore books in the used book market. [...]
Stunning knitwear.......2006-07-10
If it's written by a Starmore, you can't go wrong. This book is full of absolutely gorgeous sweaters that will inspire even the novice knitter. I bought this book 10 years ago and it motivated me to learn to knit to a much more advanced level. It's a shame that Alice Starmore's books are out of print for the most part, as it deprives those new to knitting of some of the most beautiful books and patterns ever created (unless you can afford the ridiculous price for used).
Very comprehensive aran patterns.......2006-03-13
This book goes from fairly simple to very challenging. There is something for every level of confident knitter. I love that there are patterns for men, women and children. This book is excellent for those that have been wanting to try a pattern that looks complicated, but is rather very straightforward. I am anxious to try knitting a sweater in the round instead of knitting in pieces and having to sew them together. I highly recommend this book
Ten Star Book.......2006-02-01
If you love the look of cables, textures and Aran Sweaters, you will love Alice Starmore for putting together this book. This book is a treasure.

Customer Reviews:
Alice in Wonderland.......2007-06-29
Well the book has all the text, and some of the pictures I remember. But the type is very small, and the introduction very long. It will do, but I really wanted one like the Alice I enjoyed as a child.
Wonderland?.......2006-11-11
Wonderland?
People today consider Alice in Wonderland a nice children's story. I was looking forward to a simple story similar to the movie. However, upon reading it, I was surprised by the obscure symbolism and meaning Lewis Carroll incorporates into the text. He tells the story from an innocent child's point of view and uses a confusing and random plotline to create a satire of society. Initially, the story is very puzzling. Some chapters must be read multiple times simply to absorb what happened. This wackiness and disorderly organization, although it may lead to making the reader confused, serves a higher purpose in understanding the story. Written in 1865, during the very beginnings of the "Guilded Age" in America, the book strongly emphasizes corruption and insensibility in society.
Overall, I enjoyed Alice in Wonderland. It helped me gain a new perspective on our society. Initially, I was skeptical about the quality of the book. However, as I continued reading, I became used to the writing style and began to appreciate the themes and messages it contained. Everyone should read Alice in Wonderland. Not only does it contain powerful theme about corruption and chaos in society that everyone can learn from, it can also be read in a very short amount of time. However, it should not be read only once, lest much of the meaning be initially misconstrued as unimportant nonsense. It must be examined thoroughly to obtain the most amount of personal growth.
Age 6 to 10.......2006-06-19
A book to be cherished by a child of age 6 through 10 Alice in wonderland tells the story of Alice and her adventures in an unusual land called Wonderland. There have been various cartoons and movies based on the book. They too are enjoyable but if your child is in the reading habit then this book is surely for them. There's no excuse for not reading the book. Gift this to your child and they will not be disappointed.
Wonderfully Illustrated.......2006-03-24
I collect Alice in Wonderland. I have dozens of editions including a great variety of illustrators and adaptions for children of different ages. I would say that this adaption is suitable for children 8-10 years of age. The highlight of this edition, however, are the bright, cheerful illustrations appearing on every page. Truly delightful and well worth the price.
Book Review for Alice and Wonderland.......2006-02-10
If you are looking for a good, funny, book I know were you can get one. Alice in Wonderland is a wonderful book, and at least on every page there is something that will make you laugh out loud.
Alice is a girl that finds a rabbit hole and she happens to go down it. Now, it's not every day that you find a rabbit hole and you go down. The author is named Lewis Carroll, you probably know who he is, he has written a lot of poems and books. Mr. Carroll has a very, very good sense of humor. Alice talks to herself a lot, she punishes herself too. When ever she is pondering something she figues it out by talking to herself.
The whole book is about her chasing the rabbit she sees go down the rabbit-hole. She is very stubborn, and she won't always do what you tell her to do. For example: her sister tells her to stay were she is when she is reading her book, and she goes off chasing the rabbit.
Alice and Wonderland is a grate book and I greatly recommend it.

Customer Reviews:
Great little Book.......2006-02-14
I really like this book, the pictures are lovely and the patterns are very clear and easy to follow. I'm fairly new to quilting and found this book very inspiring . The thought of trying a small quilt for your first attempt at quilting is not as daunting as a full size one,and this book has some great ideas.
It one of my favorites.......2005-11-04
I love this book and have made the quilts time after time. I do think the seams in the star points get bulkey so I trim away the excess fabric even though it's not described in the book. Its a must have if you like or love little quilts.
Excellent book ! Wonderful folkart designs........2003-01-31
I think all quilters should own this book. The directions are easy and include both rotary and template patterns. The pictures of the finished designs are vibrant and beautiful. I taught a beginning quilting class and we used this as our "textbook". Many of the quilts featured can be completed in just a few hours. Also, my favorite part of the book is how the quilts are shown on display. These pictures offer great decorating ideas.
Nice quilt book.......2002-11-14
This is a nice quilt book with good instructions and lots of pictures. I did find however that after the first few pages you were looking at the same quilts over and over, only done in different colour schemes. There are still some excellent patterns and instructions. This book is very inspiring as well. Any room filled up with that many quilts is bound to feel at home.
A great first quilting book.......2000-04-15
This was the first quilt book I ever bought and dozens of books later, I still think it is one of the best I own. The authors make quilting fun, not intimidating, and provide instructions so clear and simple that a child could follow them. Better yet, their style is very distinctive--elegantly simple, with beautiful color choices, and lots of pictures showing how to use the quilts to decorate your home. If you long to see what quilting is about, but don't quite trust your skills or taste, try "Little Quilts." You will learn confidence as well as skills...and everyone will love your quilt.

Book Description
Dancing with Dragonflies is a fable written for children and adults of all ages. It may be read out loud in less than 20 minutes, making it a good length for a bedtime story. The tale is about a princess and a knight named Lirona and Zohar. They meet while on separate journeys and continue on different paths in search of treasure. With the help of a little magic supplied by a mysterious old woman called Adamina, they find themselves where they first met, and continue their journey together to discover something more valuable than any precious gem. Among other things, the book encourages the ability to see opportunity, and the courage to act upon it. It also advocates work, balance, cooperation, perseverance and self-determination. The words and whimsical illustrations work together to form a contemporary trip into the past and the future. Visit the author's website at www.dancingwithdragonflies.com "This little book shows dance as a common ground where two people from very different worlds can come together. On the dance floor, they're able to take down the defensive walls they've built and not only find each other but also find their inner strength to trust and love again. Some may find this a fairy tale. Others a life lesson." Karen Pfrommer, Co-owner and dance instructor Let's Dance in Rhythm Branford, CT About the author: Jack Francis Gorfien is a writer and licensed acupuncturist practicing in Madison, Connecticut. His inspiration for this story grew in part from having studied the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He found that the concept of balancing the opposing forces known as Yin and Yang to relieve pain and create a state of good health, apply to all areas of life. Inspiration for this story also grew out of his experiences with ballroom dancing. He discovered that ballroom dancing is an excellent metaphor for all types of relationships, and the benefits available to partners who are willing to strive for balance and help each other excel. The author's desire is to encourage people to look within themselves and others to focus on their qualities, and choose to cultivate those qualities to their most positive potential. In today's chaotic and sometimes frightening world, we will all be well served by nourishing what is best in others and ourselves whenever possible. About the illustrator: Grace Turman has a mother, a father, a brother, two sisters and a handsome prince who keep her life just as exciting as it should be. She needs water (preferably sparkling), shelter, and at least three different colored ink pens to survive. Grace also helped illustrate The Thimble Island Story Book, a collection of salty sea stories by Captain Bob Milne.
Customer Reviews:
Fantastic new fairytale for everyone to enjoy!.......2007-10-03
This is such a delightful tale! It entertains, teaches us all something, and has wonderful illustration! Mr. Gorfien is truly a terrific new talent. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to step into a fantasy once in awhile. I am going to read it to my grandchildren someday, as it is a timeless story that makes one feel good.
Dancing With Dragonflies.......2007-10-02
This is a wonderfully enchanting book with very colorful illustrations. I've read it several times now to my children, ages 4, 6, 9, and 11. I plan on purchasing additional copies for my neices and nephews for Christmas. I love how inspirational the book is, it is truely one of the best stories I have read in quite a while. The thoughts of Lirona dancing inches above the ground and Adamina's dragonfly necklace are awesome, the kids really enjoyed those parts. I am also a huge lover of dragonflies and love the beginning of the book where it tells a bit about them. Thankyou, Jack, for a beautiful story that has fast become a favorite in our home!!
Dancing with Dragonflies.......2007-10-02
I not only find the book intriguing but I find the Author himself just as intriguing. I recommend this book very highly and hope the child in all of us could reach in and Dance with a Dragonfly.

A New FairyTale Discovered.......2007-09-30
Consider the delight of my eight year old daughter's face as she listened intently as I turned the pages of this new fairy tale, Dancing With Dragonflies. Her eyes were wide as she saw the princess Lirona sprout wings and fly away from her kingdom to make merriment with elves by dancing all night. And as Zohar entered this realm of mystery she smiled and said they would fall in love. She was quite taken with the old woman's magic and wisdom and asked me if I could make a dragonfly necklace just like Adamina's which she wore around her neck. We may just try that one day. The happy abandonment the couple celebrated in their dance was truly inspiring. As they each went their separate ways my daughter said they would one day get back together after their travels and get married and kiss! After reading this wonderful fable my little redhead dressed in her wings and princess dress and did her own dance. She asked if she could take it to the school for her teacher to read to her class. It was truly a fun read for me as well, but like my daughter I look for a sequel. =) Thankyou Jack Gorfien for this treasure. Also, many kudos to Grace Turman for the beautiful illustrations which add so much to the book.
Dancing with Dragonflies Instructs at Several Levels.......2007-06-20
Dancing with Dragonflies is a lovely story. On the surface it is a simple fairy tale. At other levels it instructs on relatonships, trust, self esteem, and letting go of attitudes that are no longer needed.

A great end to a great story.......2004-12-08
Actually, the ending was good, but it was a little cliche... but, as per usual, yuu watase kept us all in suspense and delivered an ending that you probably didn't see coming. And I also enjoyed the extra story. Usually, I find myself hating them and cursing the manga-ka for wasting precious pages on such stupid stories... but I loved Watase's closing extra, and I really loved the Alice 19th series in general.
The Power Of Words!!.......2004-12-01
Brava to Yuu Watase for another amazing series!!! \(^o^)/
This series is awesome. I loved it so much. I'm so happy that it wasn't as long as other series.
What did happen to Nyozeka?
The reason I loved this series so much was because the characters were fighting using words. That's something very rare that you don't see in mangas nowadays.
A Satisfactory Cry.......2004-11-13
It's the last volume of the heart wrenching Alice 19th! The awaited and grief stricken volume won't disappoint you! All will concluded as Alice and Kyou fight for not only their beloved Mayura, but also for the sake of the world against Darva's wrath. (You shouldn't fear- "the fate of the world" line is not used in this volume, so no cliché dramatics) What's mostly in this volume is the Alice-Kyou-Mayura relationships, also with lots of Nyozeka background. Frei and Chris don't have that big of a role now, but Mei Lin and Billy peek out then and there. There's the special "Bunny Heart" featuring Nyozeka and a girl named Rakuen (Mei Lin's ancestor, I believe). So get out a few tissues and get ready for a satisfactory cry!

Another great piece.......2006-08-31
This volume is very thrilling, and anticipating. Romantic, and a great B-4 the climax volume. This well drawn and detailed volume consists of revealed charecters, and epic pasts. i.e. Chris's past, and how he got his swallow.
Shaky parts: A bloody arrow-through-hand scene, brief nudity, but not like volume 4, and a car accident.

THE BLOOD FLOWS.......2005-03-05
Holed up in the Metropolitan Building skyscraper, Mayura seems to be coming back around to her real self. But it might be too late because the Master of Maram, Darva, is consuming her body at a frightening pace. Our heroes must make a last-ditch attempt to reach her inner heart before she is killed. Good thing that two new Lotis Masters have appeared on the scene to help them, the American Billy, and Mei Lin from China. They will still have to deal with Darva's minions and also their own inner demons as they struggle to reach Mayura before time runs out.
This volume was more my speed because Watase's ill attempts at humor which tend to ruin her dramatic scenes are largely absent. There's also a little more blood and murder than in the other installments and less froo-froo. The highlight of "Blindness" has to be that we learn a little more of the pasts of some of the supporting characters. Watase says that she had originally planned to cover all of the characters but space demanded otherwise. It would have been a better series if she had.
Whao..........2004-11-22
I think the other volumes before this one have had more action and adventure. Here we see A LOT of story and typical Watase shocking twists. I'd rate this a 5 just because of Frey! Anyway, it's very good. I was pretty impressed that this was the 6h volume, cause once you finish it, it's REALLY hard to believe that it will all suddenly finish in the 7th volume. Well, let's see what's waiting for us there. As to Volume 6: Good Art, excellent characters, wonderful twists, not so much laughter as in previous volumes, but quite okay, and well, tons of character stories. With those guys, no, actually, JUST with Frey, this book is more than worth it. So go ahead, read, and let's hope the last volume is GOOD.
Volume 6 - It's eh.......2004-09-16
Despite this being the penultimate volume of the manga, with the lotis masters battling to save Mayura from Darva, I still am left with the feeling that not much happened. Several of the characters have to battle the darkness of their past, during which we learn more about them, but it feels rushed and really doesn't have much of an impact. The ease with which the characters are able to overcome these things thanks pretty much only to Alice's tearfully shouted words of encouragement, is a little hard to accept, even with the whole suspension of disbelief that's required for a magical girl series.
If I had to cite the strongest reason for recommending this manga, I would probably say that the boys (particularly Frey) are pretty. The story is so-so, and if the art were likewise, I probably wouldn't have continued with it as far as I have. That said, having invested all this time and money, I am at least mildly interested to see how the inevitable ending is achieved.
Book Description
One small snowflake fluttering down--
That's all you need for a snowman.
Or is it? In these pages, an exuberant crew is summoned to create a snowman of heroic proportions. Starting with the very first flake, Alice Schertle's clever and energetic rhyming text details the steps these little sculptors take to create a chilly chum. Barbara Lavallee's bold and lively illustrations overflow with brisk winter energy.
Snow, colorful clothes, and a dash of the miraculous combine to shape a winter experience that is both familiar and fantastic.
Customer Reviews:
A Reading-Aloud book.......2006-03-22
This is a good story to read to a group of children. The illustrations are clear and colorful and there is a nice rhythm and rhyme to the text. As the snowman is being built, and his accoutrements added, there is a teasing "except" or "but" before you turn the page, inviting participation and anticipation from the audience. I was surprised and delighted that when a new snowfall invited the construction of a second snowman it turned out to be, not a pet or a snow-wife, but another snowman. Since this is a clear departure from traditional snow-being groups I suspect the author is making a point, but a point so subtle that is only going to be noticeable if someone chooses it to be. If there is an objection to the implied message, there is no problem interpreting the story as a snowman having a snowguy buddy. The book is well worth reading regardless of how you interpret it.
A great snow day story, nothing more than that.......2005-01-28
My 3 yr old son absolutely loves this book and I was pleasantly surprised with the simple rhyming story and how nice it reads aloud. I couldn't disagree more with a previous reviewer's insinuation that this book is depicting a hidden sexual message simply because the two snowmen are male at the end. Last time I checked two men ("snow" or of any other type) can be friends without it meaning anything else. Ridiculous. Like I said, a great inexpensive read - words flow beautifully and the pictures are sweet and great for kids.
All You Need for a Snowman.......2004-12-15
PreS-K. "One small snowflake fluttering down- that's all you need for a snowman. EXCEPT." Alice Schertle uses rhyming, catchy text in describing how to make a snowman. The use of the word "EXCEPT" encourages children to listen closely as they wait for the page to turn. The watercolor paintings help tell the story of neighborhood children working together to build a larger than life snowman. The children, dressed in colorful clothing "pat them and pack them and roll them around," and then, that "one big ball," seems to be larger than a house. The finished snowman is so large the book needs to be turned sideways to see it. These beautiful paintings along with the fun text keep the energy alive in this book. A great book for a snow or snowman themed storytime!
A New Classic!.......2003-01-09
This book, with its inviting watercolors and wonderful use of words is a new favorite of mine. A snowman, built very simply yet lovingly by a neighborhood full of children is perfect for a warm cuddle with your favorite toddler.
A perfect picture book.
Book Description
Welcome to Wonderland and the topsy-turvy world of Lewis Carroll, where nothing means quite what it seems and nobody might pass you on the street! Journey down the rabbit hole and through the looking-glass and enter into the mythical, magical imagination of Lewis Carroll and his beloved heroine, Alice.
Editor Linda Sunshine, in her follow-up to the bestselling All Things Oz, has gathered together an incredible collection of artwork, quotations, letters, recipes, puzzles and games inspired by the works of Lewis Carroll. She has traveled the world for the most extraordinary examples of art from hundreds of editions of Carroll’s works, including versions from the United States, England, Italy, France, Japan and Russia. Complementing Sir John Tenniel’s classic drawings are works by such renowned illustrators as Arthur Rackham, Gwynedd Hudson, Charles Folkard, Blanche McManus, Gertrude Kay, Mabel Lucie Attwell and Milo Winter.
Also among the treasures in this collection is a short story Carroll penned for a young friend, “Isa’s Adventures in Oxford,” which has gone unpublished since 1900. Excerpts from Carroll’s letters, most of which have been seen only in scholarly texts, reveal his passion for wordplay and his unique wit. Even rare excerpts from the magazines Carroll created as a child for members of his family are featured here, alongside images of his most famous characters.
Open this book and begin a curiouser and curiouser journey with Alice and her friends: the Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts, Humpty Dumpty, and, of course, the White Rabbit.

Not nearly all things, but still a lovely book.......2005-10-21
I have been collecting Alice in Wonderland items for nearly 30 years and I am happy to add this book to my collection. The information is presented in a format that is accessible to the general public and not just the Alice afficianado. The book production is also wery pleasing. The wonder of Alice is how she shows up all over the globe in so many ways 140 years after her conception. I think the title of the book understates to what extent Alice lives in our modern popular culture.
ALL THINGS ALICE - SHEER DELIGHT.......2005-01-08
I love this book. I received it yesterday at my office and read what I could on my lunch hour. I couldn't wait to get home. I bought this because I wanted to eventually introduce my 1 year old granddaughter to "Alice In Wonderland." Imagine my surprise to find that I can start reading to her now. There are extended nursery rhymes, funny sayings and a fascinating dialogue through the whole book. The illustrations are superb! I can start my granddaughter on the "white rabbit, calico cat, the queen" as well as "Alice" just from these wonderful illustrations. I can highly recommend this book for children and also adults who enjoy Lewis Carroll's wit. I cannot write enough good things about it.

Like one of the other viewers, I read half of it........2007-01-15
This book wasn't my fave, but maybe I would of liked it more if I read the whole thing. But it is a must-have 4 W.I.T.C.H. fans.
A must read for WITCH fans........2006-06-20
This book is adapted from the comic. It starts off when Taranee and Cornelia are making a speech, and Taranee totally freaks! But Cornelia and the gang relax her and she does her speech-along with Cornelia's! Later, Will snaps at Hay Lin, who continues to hear 'Nerissa's Trill'.
Nerissa is still alive, though, and she commands Shagon the Hate to take over Mrs. Rudolph's body, and tell Will lies. Will attacks her friends with her powers at a school party, and then realizes that Mrs. Rudolph lied.
Will runs out of school and starts to cry as the fire alarm comes on and Mrs. Knickerbocker complains that everytime she throws a party at her school, it has to catch fire.
Matt hears Will crying, and tries to confort her. Will decides it's time to tell Matt about W.I.T.C.H. And she does. When she brings out the Heart, Nerissa takes it, because she was controlling Matt. Matt faints, and Nerissa has the Heart once more.

I just got done reading this today it is the best one yet!I love w.i.t.c.h. books and there shows i am a w.i.t.c.h. freak.this book is about when will irma tarrane and cornlia think that nissria is gone but hay lin thinks other wise she keeps gearing nessiras trill. When will hears her whispers of doubt she is turned againest her group. That is just what nessira wants.she uses someone close to will to get to her and try to get to the heart of cadrcar.you have to read it!!!!
Only read a little over half.......2006-06-03
i've only read a little over half of the book, but what i read is very interesting(as usual)...
It has some twists at the beginning. Nerissa cannot torture the Guardians in their dreams any more, having been defeated in a dream in book #19. Because of this, Will, Irma, Taranee, and Cornelia think she's over and done with. but Hay Lin keeps hearing "Nerissa's trill", so she is certain Nerissa is alive. When Nerissa realizes Hay Lin knows this, she tries to focus all her attention on bringing down Will. She does this in a peculiar way, and sends Will running out of a store.
From the beginning, Will claims to be overweighted by the Heart of Candracar, and that it burns inside of her. This kept her feeling bad since the beginning of the book. So, after she runs out of the store (thanks to Nerissa), she feels worse than ever.
