How to beat your wife and get rich selling books.......2007-09-20
What was that word used when you said on thing and did another ? ohh yeah HIPOCRITE.
The Author Beat His Wife. .......2007-08-28
Juanita Bynum the evangelical preacher has been badly beaten by her husband Bishop Thomas Weeks while in a parking lot in an Atlanta hotel. The attack on Juanita Bynum was very brutal; the bestselling author was left battered and covered in bruises.
Juanita Bynum was famous for her sermons that were, let's face it very frank and let's not forget fiery, her main focus at these sermons were to do with empowerment and how to make your relationship work. Bynum and her husband Thomas Weeks were apart at the time, but decided to meet up at the Renaissance Concourse Hotel, in the hope of working out their problems.
The at about 4 a.m both Juanita Bynum and Thomas Weeks were seen fighting, at which point a hotel bellman had to rush over to the parking lot and pull Thomas Weeks off his wife. The first Officer on the scene Ronald Campbell had said that Bynum was bruised and battered, her neck was all purple as well as her torso. As yet no charges have been made against Bishop Thomas Weeks.

If you haven't read this book, you need to. This book brought so much stuff to light for me as a single woman. The secrets, as I call them, that Thomas Weeks and Juanita share with you as you read will in some way touch on some part of your life. It doesn't matter if you are married, single, or looking, this book is for you.
Book Description
Many books offer tips on enhancing your prayer life but leave you adrift when it comes to actually praying. In this bestselling 28–day study (more than 450,000 copies sold), Kay provides intensely practical insights to help you know how to pray, what to pray, and what to expect when you pray.
Thankfully, Jesus gave His disciples the perfect pattern for meaningful prayer. It is refreshingly simple and exceedingly powerful—and it can begin to transform the way you pray (and live) today!

"Right up there with 'God, Help me Pray!', but they are totally different books on the subject".......2006-09-04
Hmmm...Perhaps I was hoping for a more complete instruction guide on prayer, or maybe discussion on all the scriptural aspects of prayer. I love Kay, and this is a good book, but for me--it's a bit narrow in scope.
She takes the Lord's Prayer (so-called--John 17 is the real Lord's Prayer!), and dissects it nicely. But that prayer is too brief to cover every aspect of the subject.
I found "God, Help Me Pray!" (hard to locate) to be much more thorough and even a quicker read. This author does not 'hold your hand' like Kay does though.
Depending on what you're looking for, Kay's book, or the other one, will teach you about praying. I wanted a more complete discussion of every aspect of prayer and did not really need the hand-holding, so I prefer "God, Help Me Pray!", but both should be at the top of your short list.
Good study of prayer! Very helpful........2002-08-07
This short Bible study delivers exactly what it offers, applicable teaching on prayer. It's an excellent study for anyone, but if you have teenagers, get them into this foundational material. Focused on the Lord's Prayer (or as some call it, the Disciple's Prayer), Kay teaches on glorifying God, confessing our sins, and submitting to His will through our daily prayers. She uses Scripture almost exclusively to direct your thoughts through the study--that's the inductive method. One of the best!
Wonderful for instruction in prayer.......2001-01-18
I have had trouble with daily prayer & a daily quiet time the past couple of years. I pulled this book off the shelf and was determined to revitalized my prayer life. Every morning I read a short section from the book, writing down the scriptures, taking notes. Then I write my prayer for the day - incorporating what I've learned from the book with my "usual" prayer.
This has kick-started my desire to pray. It has reminded me that the Lord's prayer is the perfect model of how to pray. I am including more elements in my prayer than just "help me & my friends" petitions.
I like Kay Arthur's personal approach. She is solid biblically, but she doesn't come off sounding like a Bible scholar. She sounds like a loving, mature friend in the church who comes to meet with you daily and remind you how much our Lord wants to meet with us in prayer. She gently shows us scriptures about prayer and asks us questions that make us think about those scriptures and prayer.
Lastly, I just felt guilty when I looked through books that told me I wasn't really serving God unless I was spending an hour a day in prayer. Now I've found myself praying longer and longer - sometimes having an hour-long quiet time but out of love for God, not out of guilt or duty.
The Lord's Prayer.......2000-03-31
This is a good book for new christians or someone looking for some direction in their prayer life. Arthur goes through the Lord's prayer and interprets its principles. She does a great job of interpreting through scripture and meditation. The book is best suited for a bible study group. It is very interactive and makes you think. A good, solid book on prayer.

Book Description
Based on the key Montessori principle that children learn best through active experience, Teach Me to Do It Myself presents simple activities through which children explore and develop their skills. These skill areas include sensory perceptions, body coordination, language, understanding of numbers, and movement. This practical, color-illustrated parenting book is filled with activities and instructions for overseeing children as they carry out a variety of learning activities. Most activities will seem simple to parents, because once mastered, adults perform them automatically. However, toddlers experience a sense of accomplishment and self-worth when they learn to perform them independently. The many activities start with dressing and personal hygiene, then go on to include . . .
- Pouring activities
- Threading and sewing activities
- Peg activities
- Cutting with scissors
- Sorting activities by touch
- A color matching game
- Making musical scales with bottles and water
- Using alphabet tiles to make words
- Growing things in a window box
- Making finger puppets
Activities are described in detail and include checklists of needed items, as well as variations and related activities for children to try.

Teach Me to Do It Myself.......2007-08-18
I would recomend this book as it is really very handy!
It shows you how to teach your child to do practical things in life herself without all the hassel. It also gives you ideas of how you could do it, as all children are different. I think the templates are also great, this book saves you from spending extra money for material.
Fun.......2007-02-17
It is a fun book to have and do things with kids. Specially if they attend a Montessori school. Many of the activities shown are exactly what they do in school.
Probably the best home Montessori book for preschool age.......2007-01-29
I also have _Montessori Play & Learn_ and _Teaching Montessori in the Home: The Preschool Years_. This one contains the same type of activities, but somehow makes it seem simpler than the others, and seems to require less complicated special equipment to be bought or made. If you're only going to buy one Montessori book to use with your preschooler, I would recommend this one.
We love this book!.......2005-12-21
A great find, so many fun and challenging activities - it's a wonderful book for rainy days, babysitters, and grandparents.
parent-friendly and great for kids.......2005-03-22
I checked this out of our local library and found it easy to follow, bright and fun to look at with color photos, and full of resources like pages to photocopy in the back. Also, the activities made me really excited about Montessori methods. The math section was especially nice. I am online today to order my own copy because three weeks to borrow it was not long enough!

Lord, is it warfare.......2007-09-27
Kay Arthur is great at getting you into the Word. As you study and mark the Scriptures, they come to life and you start to see the truths, which challenges you to grow in the Lord.
Huge help in spiritual warfare.......2007-06-11
I first went through this study 11 years ago, it was given to me as a graduation present. When I wanted to focus on spiritual warfare again and didn't have access to my old book, I purchased this. This book is an excellent way to sharpen your spiritual weapons and hone your armor. As I said before, the first time I read this was 11 years ago and I still remember snippets when I am going through rough times. I would highly reccomend this to anyone who is interested in learning how to conduct spiritual warfare. It is a very scriptural look at the battle we face and how to conquer our enemy.
Very good guide on spiritual warfare.......2005-10-11
Kay Arthur deftly tackles a topic that not all churches and ministers will discuss: spiritual warfare. That this warfare is all around us, in many of the day-to-day situations we face, is a fact, and Arthur draws constantly and completely from Scripture to arm her reader for battle. The book, which is designed to be an 11-week study but can be read at your own pace, offers daily readings. Most days require the reader to look up and examine more closely specific Scriptural verses. Arthur does a good job of digging into the "evidence" in God's Word for points that she makes; everything is adequately supported in Scripture. What we found most interesting were the real-life stories she quotes from people she's known. Some are rather disturbing, but we must open our eyes to them.
A place for warriors in the body of Christ.......2000-02-16
Ms. Arthur is an anointed teacher who is helping this reader discover the "Battle," who is battling whom, why there is a battle, and the armor Jesus left for us to gird ourselves with to effectively fight the one Jesus defeated on the Cross. Satan's deceptions and weapons seemed much stronger, much more fearful before I entered this thought-provoking bible study that is leading me step-by-step to a realization of just what Jesus has already done for us. Ms. Arthur's teaching insist's the student think, yet offers steady help along the way as she builds upon knowledge gained chapter by chapter. If you're ready to work at acquiring the know-how to find life beyond circumstance and above defeat while learning more about scriptures to use the way Jesus defeated Satan during His temptations, this Bible Study re: warfare is for you.
Very Thought Provoking -- Helps Develop One's Insights.......1999-10-06
Kay Arthur truly has a heart for God. And He has blessed her (and us) by creating within her heart a love for us members of Christ's body. Through that love, she has developed a wonderful guide that teachs us how to search the scriptures for answers. Furthermore, rather than present a list of her own personal interpretations, she presents scriptures, asks us questions about them, and advises us to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit while we struggle with the questions. So it is really the Holy Spirit who teachs us. But Kay provides the vehicle for the planned trip. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn how to "be strong in the Lord" so that they may be able to "stand firm in the evil day". (Eph.6:10-12)

How to delivery high-quality education in any environment.......2006-11-05
Eleanor Renee Rodriguez and James Bellanca's WHAT IS IT ABOUT ME YOU CAN'T TEACH? AN INSTRUCTIONAL GUIDE FOR THE URBAN EDUCATOR blends classroom expectations and standards with research-based practices to show teachers how to delivery high-quality education in any environment. The focus here is on urban students, developing strategies that help students take responsibility and control of the learning process. Chapters present four basic comprehension strategies and pair these ideas with tactics for success.
Great title that falls short of delivery..........2003-01-25
The book is rooted on the cognitive development theories of Feuerstein. The theory is sound. The practical applications of these principles in a 'real' classroom seem daunting. There are sample lesson plans printed in the book (although most of them are geared toward the middle school aged child and not the high school level). The authors do a fine job of reviewing reading scaffolds (ie. word maps, graphic organizers, KWL charts, etc). However, in my opinion, they rely too heavily on cooperative grouping for the lessons that are proposed in the text.
Book Description
Articulation disorder, the most common speech communication problem, is identified in approximately 1 million preschool children each year. Research suggests that problems with articulation, if left unchecked, can lead to reading and spelling difficulties, social challenges, and self-esteem problems. The strongest resource a child with an articulation problem can have is a well-informed parent who knows which articulation behaviors are normal, which are not, and how best to guide his or her child through the process of speech therapy.
This book helps parents decide whether the sound errors their child is experiencing are developmental and within normal limits for their age. The book offers a range of strategies to employ when a child does need some extra help to work through a particular speech difficulty. The book also addresses the emotions parents deal with and devotes a chapter to signs and symptoms of other common communication problems that may co-exist.

Very Helpful.......2007-09-27
This book has a lot of good ideas and suggestions. It has helped me alot in being able understand my child's speech problem. With understanding and knowledge we are on a right track now!
Autism and Speech Challenges.......2007-04-06
Simply stated, I purchased the book for helping my grandson who is on the autism spectrum and has difficulty pronouncing certain sounds. Time will tell how effective Dougherty's manuscript will be.
Also, I can share the book with parents whose children have articulation problems. In my last years of teaching before retirement, I perceived that many more children have distorted speech patterns than when I began teaching in 1962. Early intervention seems the most successful approach in forming habits of speech and expression.
Good Resource for Parents.......2007-02-15
As a speech language pathologist, I would recommend this book to parents because it is full of useful information about your child's speech and language, as well as activity ideas to promote progress and improvement. I frequently refer my clients' parents to this book because it is easy to read and provides specifics about many common speech and language issues young children experience.
Buy it!!.......2006-04-22
If your child has any kind of sound problems or just doesn't seem to talk clearly, buy this book. It is interesting and gives you all the information you need. There were fun activities to do with my daughter to help her learn to say her /l/ sounds. She is doing so much better and I am thrilled.
A Wonderful Guide.......2005-12-03
I was happy to write the foreword for this book because I believe all parents should have this information. The information provided in this book is practical but comprehensive. The numerous exercises you will find throughout the book will show you how to enhance your child's vocabulary and early literacy skils, and will encourage your child's ability to say sounds clearly and correctly.

Lord, Teach me to Study the Bible in 28 Days by Kay Arthur.......2007-01-05
This is one of the best of Kay's Lord Series Books! My husband and I are using this study in our Sunday School class doing one lesson each week. You can do it as written where you do a study each day and complete it all in 4 weeks. This book presents the Inductive method of studying the Bible so that you are really observing exactly what it says, rather than just deciding what you think it says. You will learn good study habits which will be of great benefit to anyone who wishes to learn. What a great tool and so easy to follow. Try it and be encouraged.

Great Book!!!.......2007-05-20
This book actually lays out a lesson plan on how to teach your child to pronounce his "r"'s. I am most grateful. The step by step instructions make teaching this sound easy. My son for the first time is making his "r" sounds. I would recommend this book to everyone.
Review of "Help Me Talk Right" teaching the "r" sound.......2007-02-08
This book gave me a few additional ideas that I am using with 2 of my speech/language students who are having a difficult time achieving correct production of the /r/ sound. It also reinforces the techniques that I already use with other students working toward production and carry-over of the /r/ sound.
Teaching the R sound in 15 easy lessons.......2005-10-17
This book provides a step by step approach to teaching the R sound. It is simple enough to be used by a parent and also a great resource for the school based therapist.
Excellent book, my four year old son can say the R correctly.......2004-03-01
As a former teacher and stay home mom, I fully know that many speech difficulties are outgrown with time. My son was very verbal at an early age, but had great difficulty with the R and L sounds (he replaced them with a W, saying Sawa instead of Sara or Wove instead of Love). After he turned four I decided to buy the R book.
We did a few of the lessons (no pressure) and I was pretty skeptical that it would even work. I must admit we didn't even complete the book, and since my son is pretty little we were more flexible than the written lesson, I just tried to make it fun. That's why I was so surprised with the change.
The tongue placement exercise changed his world. We were watching the Christmas movie with Rudolph and Herbie the elf. We had done a few lessons (without any real signs of change) and during the movie he said HerrrRbie (instead of Hewbie). I couldn't believe it! Over the course of 3 months his R became stronger, we reminded him about 'making a muscle' with his tongue when he would attempt to say a word with an R.
He is now able to say the R no matter where it is in the word, beginning/middle/end (That came in stages...middle came first).
Just as I was about to buy the L book he really seemed to gain so much control over his tongue. He seemed to think about where he had to put it to mimmick sounds. He is pronouncing his L correctly and I feel that is largely due to the control he gained with our R lessons.
Thank you for saving us loads of time and money. I can't say enough thank you's to the author.
Excellent book, noy only for children........2002-12-28
My husband could not pronounce the letter R, as a child and teenager. This was almost resolved with many differrent speech therapists' input and his personal efforts. Nevertheless, a slight imperfection remained, which caused significant anxiety.
I helped him to correct his R with the help from this book and the results are absolutely perfect. He can even pronounce the double spanish RR, without any problems. He is now a transformed person, in terms of self esteem.
I would like to emphasize the following:
1. Although the book is simple and suitable for children, it is perfectly suitable for adults as well.
2. It is imperative that the "teacher" is as motivated as the "student", and specific time is set aside for the lessons.
3. The first chapters (production of the sound R) are crucial and very well written. Please don't do them in a hurry and pay attention to details.
4. I wish we had discovered this book earlier!

Useful book.......2006-03-26
My 7-yr-old's lisp was pretty mild, and the pace of this was very easy for him, but he enjoyed having such easy success. And it is helping. It is certainly a lot easier and cheaper than going to a speech therapist regularly!
Excellent "do-it-yourself" manual for the motivated parent.......2004-03-10
My three and a half year old daughter had been doing private speech therapy (at $100 an hour) for her lisp for about one month before we moved to German-speaking Switzerland. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to find a native English speaking speech therapist in Switzerland, so I bought this book before we left the U.S. We have completed this book and it went very successfully. There are three important things to know however: (1) don't be deceived by the "15 lessons" title. There are 15 chapters, but each "lesson" is followed by 2 or 3 practice sessions. You can only do one lesson or practice session a day. Overall I think there are over 50 days of lessons/practice sessions. (2) You must be motivated to do this. The sessions are not difficult, but you must be consistent in actually doing them on a fairly regular basis. I failed miserably at this at first until I decided to do speech therapy with my daugher every day immediately after dinner. She couldn't get dessert until she had finished her speech therapy. (3) Even when you are done with the 50 or so sessions, your child's speech will not be perfect yet. After we were done with the book, my daughter could correctly make the "s" sound when reminded to do it, but she couldn't always remember to do it. You have to constantly remind your child to properly pronounce the "s" sound. The better you are about correcting your child's speech the faster he/she will progress.
Overall this book was a tremendous help to our child, and well worth the purchase price.
Light on Lateral Lisp.......1999-03-12
My interests are in what's called a 'Lateral Lisp', where the air escapes laterally (from the sides of the tongue rather than straight out the front) during the 'sh', 'ch', and 'zh' (like measure). So if you are looking at this book for use with the more traditional lisp, this review doesn't really apply to you.
The book contains an appendix that addresses the lateral lisp, but it only has about five pages of helpful information and instructions. And although this appendix suggests that the rest of the book is appropriate for a lateral lisp, the exercises there concentrate on the 's' sound, and not the 'sh' sound, which is the problem in the case of the lateral lisp.
Although ambiguous on the point, the appendix for lateral lisp seems to imply that a speech pathologist is required for this kind of speech problem. What I was looking for was a description of some techniques and hints that might be used to correct a lateral lisp. But there just wasn't enough in this book that focused on that topic to allow me to recommend this book for those with interests in the specific topic of a lateral lisp.
