It is what I expected. Heat Transfer all in one reference.
Book Description
The maximum flavor and minimum fuss of high-heat cooking can now be yours year-round, whether outdoors on the grill or indoors in your oven.
Powerhouse chef Waldy Malouf of Beacon Restaurant in New York City and Stamford, Connecticut, likes to play with fire. Roasting and grilling have become his signature, and High Heat heralds the arrival of this brilliant approach for home cooks. Featuring 125 savory recipes adaptable for both open-flame grilling and hot-oven cooking, High Heat is the first cookbook to offer home cooks this kind of flexibility. In fact, most of the recipes, which are fast and easy to follow, include simple variations for both kinds of cooking so that you can enjoy your favorite flavors whatever the weather or time of year. Both oven roasting and open-flame grilling rely on high heat to bring out the most delicious and fundamental flavors of any food—caramelizing the natural sugars and turning the foods golden brown.
The recipes in High Heat are designed for the home cook—no long ingredient lists or all-day preparations required. Even so, you will discover a rich range of imaginative combinations from the home kitchen of a gourmet chef—Flank Steak with Rosemary and Roasted Garlic, Loin of Pork with Apples and Bitter Chocolate, Crisp Spicy Chicken Wings, Whole Red Snapper with Baby Fennel and Niçoise Olives—all tailored for indoor or outdoor perfection. Breads (Grilled Bruschetta with Toppings, Thin-Crust Pizza with Asparagus and Prosciutto), soups (Charred Yellow Tomato Soup, Caramelized Cauliflower Soup), salads (Arugula Salad with Crisp Fingerling Potato Chips, Sweet Tomato and Bocconcini Salad with Scallions), vegetables (Smoky Corn Succotash, Mediterranean Stuffed Zucchini with Cilantro-Yogurt Sauce), and even desserts (Nectarine and Almond Crostadas, Chocolate Angel Food Cake with Roasted Brandied Strawberries and Chocolate Sauce) find a home in the range or on the grill.
A father himself, Malouf has chosen recipes that will appeal to the whole family. The use of just a few ingredients and basic cooking techniques make these dishes easy to prepare for weeknights as well as special occasions. High-heat cooking is both quick and healthy, intensifying flavors without requiring additional fat or calories. So turn up the heat and prepare a knockout meal in your oven or on your grill.
Customer Reviews:
Great recipes.......2007-02-06
Outstanding recipes. Quite straightforward but full of flavor. My family has three big men (heavy weight wrestlers) and these guys appreciate good food. This cookbook delivers. Practical, do-able, reasonable amount of time. Can't ask for much more.
My New favorite Grilling Book!.......2003-07-06
This book is great. I own several grilling books and am always sad when winter comes (I live in the Northeast) and I have to put them away when I cover up the grill. But not this year! Waldy Malouf's book will take me into winter because all the recipes work in the oven as well as on the grill. So it's like getting two for one.
To be totally honest I shouldn't give this book 5 stars yet because I've only used the grilling recipes, but everything I've tried has been fantastic, and better, is EASY. The balsamic chicken is amazing, and the lamb with olives my new favorite party entree and the tuna came out perfectly, covered in this herb oil and very moist. It's a terrific book and I hope he writes another one soon.

Book Description
The development of electronics that can operate at high temperatures has been identified as a critical technology for the next century. Increasingly, engineers will be called upon to design avionics, automotive, and geophysical electronic systems requiring components and packaging reliable to 200 °C and beyond. Until now, however, they have had no single resource on high temperature electronics to assist them. Such a resource is critically needed, since the design and manufacture of electronic components have now made it possible to design electronic systems that will operate reliably above the traditional temperature limit of 125 °C. However, successful system development efforts hinge on a firm understanding of the fundamentals of semiconductor physics and device processing, materials selection, package design, and thermal management, together with a knowledge of the intended application environments. High Temperature Electronics brings together this essential information and presents it for the first time in a unified way. Packaging and device engineers and technologists will find this book required reading for its coverage of the techniques and tradeoffs involved in materials selection, design, and thermal management and for its presentation of best design practices using actual fielded systems as examples. In addition, professors and students will find this book suitable for graduate-level courses because of its detailed level of explanation and its coverage of fundamental scientific concepts. Experts from the field of high temperature electronics have contributed to nine chapters covering topics ranging from semiconductor device selection to testing and final assembly.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Handbook.......1999-11-25
As someone new to the field of High Temperature Electronics, this book was of inestimable help to me in coming up to speed rapidly. Using the valuable information provided in this easy to read resource, I was able to complete a system design in rapid time and under budget. I would highly recommend this book to others in this field.
Not worth the cost.......1999-02-12
The book appears to be a collection of paragrahps from a myriad sources on the same subject. A very non-scholarly book.

A Strike for Boys Who Love Baseball, Not Books.......2007-07-10
With HIGH HEAT, Carl Deuker again shows a steady hand with plot as he tells the tale of Shane Hunter, a kid who loses his father early on in the book and fights personal turmoil on the baseball diamond as a star closer. This melodramatic start soon takes a back seat to more pedestrian tribulations, however, as Shane's mother and sister Marian are left with little money and must move with Shane to city housing. The jolt is even bigger for our protagonist, who leaves a posh private school's winning team for a struggling city school's losing one.
This YA title is an excellent choice for parents and teachers of middle school boys who are reluctant readers -- if they are sports fans at least and baseball fans especially. Yes, there is a lot of game description and yes, people who are bored by baseball should steer clear. Other than that, it's a clear case of, "What's not to like?"
The best part of the novel is Deuker's deft handling of psychological issues. When fireballing closer Shane beans hot-hitting Reese Robertson, the very kid who moved into Shane's old mansion, there are two casualties. The incident puts Robertson in the hospital, but another headcase (Shane) is left untreated. The fallout of it all is a great pitcher who loses his ability to throw strikes and a great hitter who loses his ability to hit line drives.
The road to recovery becomes the heart of the book, and it's a book with heart, indeed. For its target audience, HIGH HEAT goes right over the heart of the plate. And in Coach Grandison, Deuker gives readers one of those irresistible mentor types that make great sports books for teens worth the money. Highly recommended.
High Heat - Great Baseball Book.......2006-10-02
Shane Hunter, a sophomore at Shorelake High School had it all; money, great friends and baseball. One day, his perfect world changes when Shane's father is arrested for money laundering and commits suicide. Shane's family must move to the "other" side of town that Shane despises. Shane has a difficult time adjusting to his new life and gets arrested for stealing and his punishment is repairing a local baseball diamond. This brings back memories of his old life, and Shane is faced with the decision of whether or not he should join the team and continue playing the game his father taught him. Will fear of failure overpower him or will he step up to the plate? Read this book and find out!
I enjoyed this book for many reasons. Mainly because it's about baseball and baseball is my favorite sport. But the book has more to offer, it deals with how a teenager copes with the suicide of a parent.
It also tells how Shane struggled when he had to move and change schools. Whether you're a baseball fan or not this is a book you won't want to put down until you finish it.
DO YOU LIKE SUSPENCE? BETTER YET DO YOU LIKE BASEBALL?.......2006-06-06
If you like either of thse two things High Heat by Carl Deuker is the perfect book for you! High heat is about a kid that is a closer for his school team. He was really good, until all these tragedys happened to this pour kid. It is really suspenceful. It is just about the best book ever made. The story in this book is so fantastic. Once you read the first 3 pages you wont stop and befor you know it you will be half way through the book. Believe me and please read this book i know you will like it if you like baseball or even suspence.
Brandon's review.......2006-05-04
I liked this book because it was a great book. I play baseball so I thought it would be a good book to read.
Shane Hunter is a great relief pitcher at Shorelake High School in Seattle. At one of his games, these two guys come a take Shane's dad away. He was caught for money laundering. Shane's dad commits suicide and they have to move away to a new house that is a lot smaller. Shane gets caught stealing beer with his friends and for his punishment, he has to do community service and get counseling for a year. For his community service, he gets to clean up a baseball field. He does a great job on the field. The next year, Shane goes to Whitman High School and plays baseball there. His team has an okay season. During that year, Shane hits a kid named Reese Robertson in the head and sends him to the hospital. Shane doesn't pitch as well for the rest of the year and Reese doesn't play as well as he used to be able to. The next year, Shane plays on the baseball team again and they have a great season and make it into the playoffs. A guy on Shane's team, Kim Seung, gets a full scholarship to USC. A scout from the University of Portland is looking at Shane to see if he wants to recruit him. In the playoffs, Whitman faces the Shorelake team. The game comes down to the last pitch and it is Shane against Reese. Will Shane strike out Reese and win the game for his team? Or will Reese get a hit and win the game for his team? Read the book and find out.
I think that sports readers would like this book because it is a great baseball book and it keeps you interested. Also, realistic fiction readers would like this book too because the things that happen in this book could really happen in real life.
Fastball.......2006-04-24
Shane Hunter is the star pitcher of his baseball team at Shorelake. When his father commits apparent suicide, he starts to get nervous when he's pitching and he blows every game he's in. Shane and his family have to move to a new house because they couldn't pay for the house they were living in after his father committed suicide. Shane decides to quit pitching after he hits a kid in the head with one of his pitches. When the summer ends he doesn't know if he wants to pitch or play the outfield. He decides he's going to pitch again after the summer. When Shane hears that there's going to be scouts at the games, he starts to get nervous and blows games for his team.
I liked the part when Shane was striking out all of the batters because it showed how good of a pitcher he was. I disliked the part when Shane decided to stop pitching because he loves to play baseball.
This book has a lot of action in it. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read about baseball. This book is good for people who like books with a lot of action.

Leadership When the Heat's On presents leadership strategies designed for today's fast-changing, no-guarantee workplace.
Customer Reviews:
Soon-to-be classic!.......2003-07-11
"Leadership When the Heat's On" is a soon-to-be classic that truly has it's finger on the pulse of business in the 21st century. Mr. Cox accurately delivers a powerful curriculum that not only creates a road map for new leaders but allows veteran leaders to expand and extrapolate on their own time-tested techniques. Not only has my company used this book to address immediate, critical needs but instituted many of Mr. Cox's principles into the bedrock of our strategic planning foundation. I look forward to future publications as I am sure the "sonic boom" will ripple through the business landscape.
Revised, Updated, and Even More Valuable.......2002-09-05
This is a substantially revised and updated second edition of a book which, since first published in 1992, became and remains a bestseller. (My rough guess is that about 60% of the material this edition is new. Perhaps more.) In my Five Star review of the previous edition, I began by noting that the word "crucible" refers to a container within which tremendous pressure exists and the word is also used to describe experiencing such pressure. While writing this book with Hoover's assistance, I think Cox had this in mind when using the term "heat" in relation to leadership. Throughout history, the greatest religious, military, social, political, and business leaders have flourished under tremendous pressure.
According to Cox, "heat" is created at the point at which the manager finds himself or herself under the greatest pressure, emanating both from outside (e.g. others' expectations) and inside (i.e. self-imposed forces). In fact, almost anyone within any organization finds herself or himself feeling such pressure while attempting to produce desirable results. Cox fully understands that there are many different kinds of pressure which generally fall within two categories: positive pressure which increases and improves performance without a loss of dignity, and, negative pressure which undermines performance and frequently results in anger, resentment, discouragement, and even despair.
Years ago when meeting with a CEO who took great pride in his "command and control" management style, I read a framed aphorism to which he directed my attention: "Flogging will continue until employee morale improves." Cox did not write this book for such a manager; rather, for those who care deeply about their associates and are struggling to provide effective leadership and management -- or supporting their leaders and managers -- while experiencing tremendous pressure themselves from various sources (e.g. supervisors, associates, customers, and competitors). In this volume, Cox recommends the same seven strategies introduced in the previous edition. They are arranged in a sequence of "Steps" to follow when "the heat's on": Team Building, Goal Setting, Time Planning for Higher Productivity, Keeping Morale High, Creativity, Problem Solving, and finally, Mounting [or Initiating] Change. It would be a disservice both to him and to those who read this review for me to discuss the seven "Steps." Each must be carefully considered (a) within the context in which Cox presents it, and (b) in relation to the others which precede or follow it. Cox correctly views and explains each of them within a cohesive process. They are interdependent. He also offers an abundance of examples and illustrations of real-world situations, dos and don'ts, action steps, mental activities, checklists, etc.
For me, one of the most important sections is "Introduction: Andrews Air Force Base, July 21, 2001." For ten years, Cox flew supersonic fighter planes in the United States Air Force (the F-86 Sabre, the F-102 Delta Dagger, and then the F-101 Voodoo) before embarking on his business career. In the "Introduction," he first describes what happened last summer when he accompanied a brigadier general during the flight of an F-16 Fighting Falcon over the Atlantic Ocean. Later, he and wife Tedi celebrated his "supersonic day" by dining in the "Old Town" area of Alexandria, VA. It would be inappropriate to reveal what occurred after they were seated in an historic restaurant. Suffice to say, Cox's juxtaposition of the two situations serves to illustrate several of his most important ideas which he then develops brilliantly in the ten chapters. In fact, I think the "Introduction" all by itself is worth the price of the book.
Those who share my high regard for this revised and updated edition are urged to check out Bossidy and Charan's Execution: The Discipline of Getting Things Done, Hammer's The Agenda: What Every Business Must Do to Dominate the Decade, Maister's Practice What You Preach: What Managers Must Do to Create a High-Performance Culture, and Gilbert's Success Bound: Breaking Free of Mediocrity.
Revised and Updated - Great to Reread.......2002-08-23
Our company has used Danny Cox as a leadership example for years. We enjoy Danny as a speaker (one of the top speakers in the country) and we use Danny's books for training our senior management team. This book is meant for LEADERS in the organization - self-directed individuals that have the toughness to lead when the heat is on. Danny lived leadership through the heat and shares his experiences. If you are looking to add energy to your organization and your senior management team, this book is for you. Surviving an economic downturn has turned up the heat on most businesses - this book supplies a common sense road map to leadership under pressure. Highly recommended.
Leadership When the Heats on.......2000-02-09
After reading the book Leadership When the Heat Is on, I have found a new admiration of the people who move towards the field of leadership and being a leader. The writer, Danny Cox basically wrote about his experiences in the field of becoming a leader to a group of people in the sales process. The writer mentions problems on how and why these problems came about. The book over all is about common sense in the viewpoint of a person who has experienced it first hand. This book was something that people should read to grasp a better idea of what to expect out of a person who is responsible for others below them in a business setting. The people who are having troubles in getting to know the people that they work with and to get those people to work should read this book.
Cox and Hoover HOT HOT HOT!.......2000-02-08
Dream. Study. Plan. Act. Danny Cox and John Hoover epitomized leadership in these four simple words. This book is a no nonsense look at simple values that we have left behind in the pursuit of great leadership. The authors focus on bringing out the leader in everyone so that everyone can lead themselves and others with enthusiasm. It is an easy read with exercises to challenge readers to think about how to improve their way of thinking and living so as to tap into their leadership skills. The book reads somewhat like a manual and at times can be repetitive but in it's repetition, readers remember. I think the best characteristic of this book is the lists of things to remember, including catchy phrases, relevent stories, and rules to live by. Leadership When the Heat is On is not only informative but fun. It can be used as a guide to beef up leadership skills but more importantly change the way you view leaders and the people who follow them.
Book Description
A fascinating insider's look at the people, politics, and power plays behind the mega sports deals.
Have you ever wondered how a monumental new sports stadium ever gets built? Why a major-league team "moves" from one city to another? How one city beats out a dozen competitors for an expansion franchise? Or what really happens behind closed doors, when billionaire team owners, cagey politicians, and pin-striped lawyers hash out the details that can make or break a city's dreams to attract or keep a team?
In When the Game Is on the Line, Rick Horrow pulls back the curtain to reveal the real stories behind the biggest sports deals of the past twenty years, many of which he has brokered, to the tune of some $13 billion in infrastructure investment alone. Since his first battles, squaring off against legendary Dolphins owner Joe Robbie and a backstabbing Miami City Commission, Horrow has tangled with some of the most colorful figures in sports management and civic development, including NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue, Florida Governor Jeb Bush, and golf superstar Jack Nicklaus. The results have included new stadiums in dozens of cities (from Boston's FleetCenter to Denver's Invesco Field), off-season training facilities, league expansions-and the bragging rights to go with them. When the Game Is on the Line takes you beyond the bleachers and into the smoke-filled rooms, where big egos clash, coalitions are built, and multi-million-dollar agreements are put in play. For anyone interested in the high-octane world where sports, politics, and business meet, When the Game Is on the Line will be a must-read.
Customer Reviews:
Ego's are Everywhere in Professional Sports.......2005-12-29
This book is somewhat entertaining and informative, if you can swallow Rick Horrow's HUGE ego and soapboxing. I don't know what's become of Rick since he wrote this book, but if he's still active in the professional sports community, it would amazing. He is so full of himself that mostly every page has some mention of all the great things he did. He chastizes and bad mouths mostly everyone he has ever worked with...the only exception that comes to mind is Bud Selig. Overall, Rick tells some interesting behind-the-scenes stories and explains in a vivid way the power playing that goes on with the rich egomaniacs in the world of professional sports, but if you're like me, after reading through the fluff and overdramatized exploits with Rick's so-called partners, you won't be able to finish this book. I couldn't.
Great Read.......2004-02-03
For readers who like to know what goes on behind the scenes in the business of sports, this book is just the ticket. What struck me is the readability -- like a novel -- and I learned a great deal about the characters involved in high-profile decision-making, and how power is wielded. Highly recommended.
Publicity Seeker Offers Nothing New.......2004-01-21
Horrow's self-grandizing in this book is unbelieveable. I didn't know he was so great until he wrote this book. According to him, he was the sole reason why the NBA came to Miami -- gee, over 2.5 million potential fans, and lots of moula had nothing to do with it. Oh, and he gives "insightful" testimonials about several big-name sports celebs, including Nicklaus and Al Davis (they both have big egos) what a revelation! Did anyone check out Horrow's credentials to see how many failed sports ventures he has been involved in? Plenty. And now we're all supposed to turn to him for insight? Horrow's book offers nothing new, on the subject of the sports/entertainment industry as it exists today, or will project into the future. Amazon.com should be embarassed by the industry-written "positive" reviews that it allows up on its web-site to promote the sales of this book. Don't ever buy it if you want to learn something new, or read something from someone who has had success in the sports industry in the past. Look for it in the discount bin soon, to keep open your windows, or for a doorstop.
Very Informative.......2003-07-23
As a soon to be lawyer as Mr. Horrow, this is a very informative book as to the world of Sports Business. He really provides insight into all aspects of Sports, including the political battles. This book is very encouraging and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to get into the business aspect of sports.

Customer Reviews:
BORROW IT !.......2000-05-04
This book is as far from "easy reading" as it gets!(I suggest a look at the sample pages) As a Personal Trainer, I was bombarded with details, rather than simply the results, of complicated studies and research. This book could have been summarized in 50 pages for the general public. The information is excellent but too scientific. Borrow it if you really need scientific specifics.
Performance in the Extremes Made Easy to Understand.......2000-04-28
Lawrence Armstrong, one of the most respected exercise physiologists today, has done a wonderful job with bringing difficult topics back down to earth. In this book, Armstrong discusses everything from cold and windchill to altitude to heat, and how your body responds to these extremes.
The area of human performance and the effect the environment has on it is not always easy to understand. I think that Armstrong has done a great job in relaying pertinent information, especially on cold and altitude, in an easily understandable fashion. You don't have to be a physiologist yourself to learn from this book.
For anyone interested in human performance, from beginners to experts, this is a text you would want to have on your shelf.
