Customer Reviews:
Comprehensive but not in depth.......2007-03-09
This is a nice book for people who have the basic idea of ASP.NET. This Book covers almost all topics for .Net2.0 . It is a very good reference book for newbie.
Unfortunately, this book isn't in-depth for lots of topics, basically it just introduces most common cases, and you probably can't find what you want for some topics. (Eg implement Sorting and Pagation for ObjectDataSource, Crystal Report, memory management, ADO.NET in depth, .Net Virtual Machine etc). The source code is another down side for this book. Most of the code doesn't run, also the connection string wasn't right at the first place, I have to spend hours and hours to get it right.
In conclusion, it worth to buy, if you just want learn asp.net in a fast way. It will give you the solution for most tasks. Pretty good reference book.
Great ASP.NET 2.0 Reference.......2007-01-22
This is a great ASP.NET 2.0 reference book. It is absolutely packed with information covering all areas of the product. The book is also somewhat unique in that all code snippets are provided in both VB and C#, making it useful to all developers.
The authors are fantastic technical experts and speakers on .NET and ASP.NET. I think you can learn a lot from this book.
Encyclopedia of ASP.NET.......2007-01-21
Wrox is a great publisher of quick and massive volumes with multiple authors. I'm a teacher and look for good values that combine clear technical information and a broad range for a low cost. This is a good choice if you have experience with ASP.NET, know your web architecture (query strings, cookies, sessions, etc.), and don't want an extended tutorial. The reasoning for why you use these things wasn't clear but the details on how to use them exceeded most of the current fare which is why I chose to teach from the text recently. The quantity of code that was provided in VB and C# was excellent but the topics were out of order for classroom use. For the ASP.NET beginner, I feel it needs to be supplemented with a more tutorial based text and then this makes an excellent companion volume.
A Professional Level Book in Every Way.......2006-10-25
This is a monumental book. Almost sixteen hundred pages of hi-tech stuff. It is not for the faint of heart. It is intended for people who have at least a general understanding of how the web works with particular attention as to how a database driven web site is set up and works. Knowledge and experience with earlier versions of ASP (Active Server Pages) would be very helpful, but so would experience using other technologies such as Cold Fusion, PHP, or Java. Such knowledge is to provide you with the concepts of doing a dynamic web page consisting of a framework or template with the actual data being displayed coming from a database.
The book builds on this basic understanding to start with a very simple page and go on to much more complex tasks such as the building XML web services. Along the way every aspect of ASP.NET 2.0 is discussed.
ASP.NET 2.0 is the second major release of ASP.NET, Microsoft's main concept for programming dynamic web pages. The focus of the new release is on productivity. A major goal of the development team was to reduce the number of lines of code needed to program a page by two thirds. On the whole they suceeded.
In addition, the book contains two CD-ROMs. One is a 180 day trial version of Visual Studio 2005. The other has about a thousand pages from about 15 other WROX books that you may find helpful in looking up background information. The book is in reference format rather than tutorial. It will be very helpful for quite a long time.

Book Description
They say that opposites attract, and in the case of artist Kira and biker Rei, that couldn't be more accurate. To innocent Kira, it may seem like a dream come true that the most popular guy in the school is going out with her, but that dream becomes a nightmare when jealous girls start plotting against her. Jealousy leads to desperation, and desperation leads to suicide. Kira soon finds her life more complicated than she can handle. Cutting-edge storytelling for today's teens, Mars is a story that no shojo manga fan should be without.
Customer Reviews:
Awesome! Totally relatable.......2006-12-26
this book rocked. Not gonna drone on like the rest of my reviews except to say read this. I loved how you could tell just how different these two were. Short book, but had me on the edge of my seat all the way. Finished in twenty minutes, but came back to read my favorite parts. And the picture when they kiss and they're sparkling! AWESOME ART MAN! Get this book.
This is Jumaane
Awesome.......2006-11-19
If you dig love stories and like manga, this series is a MUST READ. The artwork is very good and the characters are expressed very well, the plot is insanely good, and its fifteen volumes long, meaning that there's a lot more to love! And, the main character drives a Ducati Monster, the awesomest bike in the universe. What more could you ask for???
OMG! OMG!OMG!!!!!!.......2006-05-14
I love this series. I am hooked and i can't stop!! I must not read spoilers!! AGH!!!! Since i'm too lazy (cheap actually) to go buy the book myself,i will just have to wait until the library orders more.. I don't know where i have been before Mars,i have not lived life that's for sure.
Good for Starters.......2006-04-09
This was my first manga I'd ever read, eons ago. Recently, I decided to go back and reread it...and I have to admit, I was slightly shocked.
After reading all this other manga that I have, I have come to realization that...Mars is no longer my favorite manga like I've claimed. In fact, it's not up there at all. Depressing start, but anyway, here goes the actual review:
The first thing I noticed about Mars after going back to it was that everything was so...blah. The conversations are blah. The art is blah. And backgrounds? There are hardly any backgrounds to speak of. Kira irritates me anymore. Used to, I thought she was shy and sweet, but after reading about all these other heroines with more mettle and more spunk, and some, more shyness than her, I just got irritated. She was saccharine sweet, and I no longer got to know her and like her like I did the first time I read it. Rei seemed...I don't know how to describe it, but I didn't fall in love with him anymore.
And now that I've seen other manga, the story line seems so over used. Now, don't get me wrong! I'm all for the "Good Girl meets Bad Boy and they Fall in Love and Stay Together Despite All Odds" storyline. In fact, I love that storyline (along with all the generic others I've read.) But in others, there are always twists. And if there aren't twists, the storyline is more in depth, and the characters are more lovable. And...I really don't see that anymore in Mars.
But, as there always are, there are good things about Mars. For one, it is good for beginners to get used to that reading right-left thing. What with the conversations being simple in Mars, they're easy to follow and easy to figure out where you're going. I used Mars as trainer books to my friends who wanted to start reading manga but had trouble with the right-to-left format. And while I may complain, it is still a nice, simple love story at heart. Not excellent, but nice and simple, so if you don't want anything too complex, then go ahead and grab Mars. And plus, the whole series is out now, so if you hate buying manga and not being able to read the ending RIGHT AWAY, this is one of those series that are for you.
Totally exhilerating series--great way to begin!.......2006-03-11
This is the first book in the 15 book shoujo manga series from Japan. It features Rei, the bad boy who's a motorcycle racer, and Kira, the quiet artist who strays away from boys and attention. And of coarse, opposites attract.
Rei asks Kira, one day, for directions to a hospital that his friend is at. Kira says nothing, then gives Rei a map that she just drew. On the back is an amazingly beautiful picture of a mother holding her baby. Rei takes the picture to his heart since his mother died when he was about 5.
Rei and Kira end up in the same class and she tries to ignore him, but he won't let her. Rei ends up modeling for Kira and he says he will pay her by protecting her. At first this works, until Harumi, a girl that Rei went out with that still loves him, tells Kira to stay away from Rei. Kira doesn't listen and Harumi almost breaks Kira's fingers. Rei comes and all is good, til' the next book.

Book Description
Seymour Simon has written more than 150 award-winning science books about animals, anatomy, astronomy, earth science, and vehicles!
Named after the Roman god of war, Mars has fascinated people for thousands of years. Did you know that . . .
- A Martian year is 687 Earth days, almost twice as long as a year on Earth.
- Mars's biggest valley, Valles Marineris, is four times as deep as the Grand Canyon!
- Scientists think that Mars, now rocky and barren, once had an ocean, rivers, and a thicker atmosphere.
- The first robot ever to explore the surface of Mars is only about the size of a child's toy wagon.
Customer Reviews:
Seymour Rocks Mars.......2006-01-29
This was a Christmas present for our 5 yr old who has recently discovered the thrill of our solar system. He reads it continually and has many of Seymour Simon's other books about our solar system. He loves them so much and has started sharing them with some of his friends. He constantly relates planetary trivia to me which shows me that he's not just looking at the pictures.
This Mars book is written incredibly well. I'm amazed at how Seymour Simon can speak to a 5 yr old and adults. The artwork and photographs within the book are incredible. I love this and all of Mr. Simon's books we've seen so far. I highly recommend this as a reading tool for any kid that is interested in planets or space in general. If they love the book, they'll keep reading!

Customer Reviews:
Leonaur Ltd. is publishing the definitive Edgar Rice Burroughs 21st century editions........2007-04-13
Leonaur Ltd. is publishing the definitive Edgar Rice Burroughs 21st century editions. These usually contain 2 books of the different ERB major series in order - thus far John Carter, Pellucidar, and Carson of Venus. In the future, possibly Tarzan!
These books are handsome and my rating is mainly based on this - the ERB fan knows best about the rest of it.
This volume contains the 3rd part of the John Carter of Mars trilogy as it brings the saga of John Carter and Dejah Thoris' romance, marriage, dissaperances, et al to a close. It also contains "Thuvia, Maid of Mars", the adventures of Carthoris, JC and DT's son. It should be acquired by ERB fans.
Wartlord of Mars & Thuvia, Maid of Mars; CONFUSED REVIEWS.......2007-03-30
For some reason, Amazon has mixed in reviews here that have NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS VOLUME. All the talk about "the 11th book" in the series pertain to another volume altogether. I hope someone from Amazon reads this and finds the mistake.
That said . . .
The Mars series by ERB is excellent. I've read each book half a dozen times over the course of my life. Burroughs had an amazingly fertile imagination, but the Tarzan movies his mind look vapid.
But these books are his masterworks.
If you like adventurous science fiction you should love these.
John Carter of Mars - volume 2 - Warlord of Mars & Thuvia, Maid of Mars.......2007-02-21
Great reprint of this great classic science fiction / fantasy series. Much appreciated. Looking forward to purchasing the remainder of the series when they are published.
The truth.......2005-03-05
Alot of reviews are saying the Edgar Rice Burroughs did not actually write "John Carter and the Giant of Mars". The truth is that he did. This is what happened and what causes confusion: a childrens publisher wanted a short version of a Edgar Rice Burroughs' novel. Mr. Burroughs was concerned that he could not keep it short enough for the publisher so he asked his son to help craft a shorter story. At the same time, Amazing Stories asked Edgar Rice Burroughs for another Mars novel. A full lenght one to serialize. Edgar took the short story and stretched it to a full novel. This is confirmed by several sources and by Edgar Rice Burroughs estate. It explains why some of the novel strays from the rest of the series. So, yes his son was involved, but it is wrong to say that Edgar Rice Burroughs did not write it. He did. Especially the novel version.
Anyway, all of the Mars books are exciting and I recomend all the books in the series.
The final adventures of ERB's hero, John Carter of Mars.......2003-08-29
This is the 11th and final volume in the celebrated Martian series by Edgar Rice Burroughs has a couple of shorter stories featuring John Carter. "John Carter and the Giant of Mars" first appeared in the January 1941 issue of "Amazing Stories," and was written by Burroughs and his youngest son John Coleman Burroughs. The story was originally intended for a Whitman Big Little Book, which meant the story had to be 15,000 words long and have facing pages illustrating the action. The younger Burroughs was also the illustrator. At some point 6,000 words were added to the story and it was published in "Amazing," with no one ever knowing for sure how much ERB actually wrote of this story, which was the final complete John Carter tale. As you would expect when ERB was writing for children, he goes back to his standard formula. John Carter and Dejah Thoris are having a nice ride of a thoat when they are attacked and his beloved princess is once again captured. Carter is off to the rescue with help from his old friend Tars Tarkas. Along the way they encounter Joog, a 130-foot tall giant, and a city of rats; just the sort of fantastic characters kids would be looking for in a story. Beyond sticking to the standard Burroughs formula, there is not much here of interest.
"Skeleton Men of Jupiter" was originally published in "Amazing Stories," and was intended to be the first of a four-part story, but ERB died before it could be completed. Since then it has been, by several pastiche writers. John Carter is called away from his beloved princess Dejah Thoris to meet with Tardox Mors in the Hall of Jeddaks, when he is captured by men that look like human skeletons speaking a strange language. It turns out the Morgors are from Sasoom, the Barsoomian name for Jupiter, which is where our hero ends up. ERB has to play fast and loose with science, arguing that Jupiter rotates fast enough that Carter is not crushed by the gravity. Still, he has lost the advantage he had on Barsoom with its lower-than-Earth gravity. Anyway, it would not be a Burroughs Martian novel if the hero did not have to rescue his beloved, and it turns out Dejah Thoris has been captured as well. Consequently, Carter has to escape and tracked down his princess. Slightly better than "The Giant of Mars," the story is hurt by the lack of an ending. Fans will read these stories out of a sense of completeness, but clearly ERB's Barsoom series went out with a whimper.

Book Description
Max gets ready to go on the first human mission to Mars. This time, his mission is to help the human crew in the search for life on Mars, while providing the comfort that only a dog can offer on a journey that lasts more than two years. With sidebars on science lessons, this picture book also has a take-home message about the beauty and fragility of planet Earth.
Customer Reviews:
Outstanding Science for Childrean.......2006-09-14
How does a dog go to Mars? This charming, yet realistic, book written by Dr. Jeffrey Bennett, tell us just how a dog and astronauts may take the first manned spaceship to Mars. Max Goes to Mars is jam-packed with interesting scientific facts and information in fictional story form, which always appeals to young readers. Even better, the scientific information is explained fully in readable, understandable terms without over-simplifying as can happen in children's books.
The illustrations by Alan Okamoto make a perfect marriage with story, which is the ideal for picture books. The paintings also convey a technical detail and knowledge that young readers will pour over time and again, always finding something new to discover. Almost every page has sidebars for the readers who want to learn more about the science of space travel, Mars, and the ancient mythology about the planets. As well, there is an activity page near the end, which demonstrates the orbit of Mars through a movement exercise. Most special are the photographs of the real Max at the end. They are heartwarming and will bring the readers closer to Max and his adventures.
This book is extraordinary as it brings so many elements together in a nice harmony. Teachers will also find this book to be a marvelous core for the space unit. Most highly recommended for ages 4 - 10 and classrooms from pre-school through fifth grade.
Motivational Science Book At Its Best!.......2005-10-10
Max Goes To Mars is an outstanding book that combines a fictional trip to Mars along with the non-fictional information that is included on each page. Both children and adults will find the story and artwork, as well as the factual information motivating and exciting. Teachers of elementary and middle schools will find the book the perfect interdisciplinary tool. Activities are included.

One Swell Reader!.......2001-12-01
Ryan loves to play soccer (eventhough he might get distracted sometimes on the field)...and his mom loves to go to his games. Unfortunately she's often a little over-enthusiastic. Ryan gets a little embarassed. He cooks up a plan to trick his mom...and then (along with the rest of the team) misses her when he thinks she's not there.
This is a great Easy Reader for a good first grade reader or an average second grade reader. ESPECIALLY if they love soccer.
Cute & expressive pencil illustrations add to the fun. It even covers the thorny subjects of honesty and (obviously) being embarassed over the actions of a parent in language any second grader can understand.
(Soccer Mom's will "aww" at then end...and their little players won't mind!)
Book Description
The exploration and colonization of Mars, as discussed in the more than 130 papers and essays from the Mars Society's annual conferences, is presented in this second volume of the On to Mars series. Formed in 1998 to support the exploration and settlement of Mars, the Mars Society seeks to educate and convince political powers, industry leaders, and the public about the necessity of committing resources to the development of a Mars settlement program. Covering recent technological and planning advances, these essays cover the last three years of Mars Society meetings and discuss such topics as habitat infrastructure, exploration technique, and colony organization as they have been explored at the Mars Society's Analog Research Stations at Devon Island, Nunavuit in Canada and in Hanksville, Utah. Two short videos, Stepping Stones to Mars and Robert Zubrin's testimony before the Senate Committee on Commerce at the Hearings on the Future of the U.S. Space Program, are featured on the included CD-ROM.
Customer Reviews:
A serious and artistic look at the future of space exploration.......2007-09-18
This book is for the serious reader and the space enthusiast who sees Mars as a real future endeavor. If you believe in the reality of space exploration and wish to see just how we can go about getting there, then this book is for you. There is also poetry, light hearted looks at Mars themes, etc. It comes with a CD as well. It is a culmination of several serious space related authors who came together, like Lewis & Clark, to explore new frontiers. Only this time they look beyond our blue planet.
only for the serious amateur/scientist.......2007-09-11
this book is actually a collection of scientific papers on the topic of Mars mission planning. If you are not a serious scientist or amateur engrossed in the subject you will be bored. I was expecting more material from Zubrin. I recommend instead Pale Blue Dot by Carl Sagan
