Book Description
Milo doesn't get it: What's the big deal about moms? They're just slavedriving broccoli bullies. Yet they are worshipped the world over! Perhaps even the galaxy overbecause here come Martians and they're after one thing only: moms. Milo's mom in particular. Who better to drive them to soccer practice and to pizza parties? That's quite a long way to come for a momcould it be that Milo has been overlooking something special?
From Pulitzer Prize-winning comic strip creator of Bloom County and bestselling author Berkeley Breathed comes a funny, poignant book about how the unique love that binds our families can be overlooked in the rush and tumble of everyday lives . . . especially those of disgruntled little boys.

Kid's Sci-Fi Tribute.......2007-08-27
This book, for people of all ages, and if you had a mom like mine, makes you hope you give, gave, are giving your Mom enough respect for the love and care and sacrifice she has put out for her children. Breathed's seriously funny Opus series is sort of turned on its head with surprise seriousness. Excently drawn and colored, beautiful design and surprise kids Science Fiction, the book may create a new genre. You want to share it with the people you know. High recommendation all around.
Wow! What a moving and fantastic book!.......2007-08-24
My wife and I bought this book while on vacation (without the children). She read it on the way home and began to tear up. This is a wonderfully illustrated and extremely poignant story about a boy who is unsure what's so darn special about Moms. Well, through the course of about 25-pages he discovers what's so special.
A fantastic book that should be part of every children's library!
This book is a pick me up for Moms!.......2007-08-10
The son saw his mom as a beastlike hag until the Martians kidnapped her. He went to rescue her and she put her air helmet on him to save him. I liked how the artist showed his mom changing to a lovely person as he saw her love and value. This book is a pick me up for moms!
We adore this book!.......2007-07-14
Berkely Breathed at his best - this book has a plot which has both the fantasy that a kid likes plus the message that an adult likes - in this case, it celebrates moms. We are liking this book even more than Breathed's Edwurd Fudwupper story, but it is a close call as to which is best. The illustrations are incredible, as always.
This has become my new "birthday present" book.
Give to all.......2007-07-10
This is an excellent story to be given to all moms of any age. Mothers' Day 2007 I gave several copies to moms I know, including my own, and every one cried over the beautiful sentiment contained in this story.
Book Description
Blast off with Douglas Florian's new high-flying compendium, which features twenty whimsical poems about space.
From the moon to the stars, from the Earth to Mars, here is an exuberant celebration of our celestial surroundings that's certain to become a universal favorite among aspiring astronomers everywhere.
Includes die-cut pages and a glossary of space terms.
Customer Reviews:
A "Universal" treat!.......2007-05-05
I think Douglas Florian's new book, 'comets, stars, the moon and mars' is his most expressive yet.
Beginning with the poem "skywatch," two children look at the sky. The next poem is "the universe."
Die cut "planet" holes move the reader deeper and further through space. From "mercury" to "venus" to "the earth" to "the moon" the poems continue in order according to their distance from the Sun. Comets, black holes and the mystery of what lies beyond are also addressed. Florian's ability to weave facts and fun are on full display here.
The bright color palette echoes the amazing views from the Hubble space telescope. This generation of kids has grown up looking at Seymour Simon's books about the solar system and the Universe. They have seen the colors that are out there.
Check out the Harcourt page about the book and download Florian's Poetry Kit. The "Practical Poetry Pointers" are some of the most best tips for writing poetry with kids that I have ever seen.
You have Gotta-Have-It.

Awesome.......2007-07-21
My 2 teenage daughters love the Mars series. So far, #8 has been their favorite. I finally started reading the series myself and it is a wonderful animae teenage love story.
Intense volume.......2005-07-16
In this volume, Kira's past is revealed. Kira tells her boyfriend, Rei about when she was raped by her stepfather, shocking Rei. Kira reveals that their is a side of herself that she's afraid of. Kira goes to school the next day and Rei picks her up and takes her out on the beach to relax. They discuss Kira's past and Kira tells Rei about their first real meeting and how he is special to her. Rei and Kira go out at night and Kira and Rei kiss. Kira goes home, very happy, until she finds out that her stepfather, the one who raped her years ago, has returned to live with them. How will Kira react? How will Rei react? Read this great volume to find out!
Woot!.......2003-10-19
I guess its a very typical premise. Bad Boy/Good Girl get together and have turbulent relationship.
I've only read to volume 8(And that's only because I can't buy them all at once!). As of today I've that's what I've read. And I love it, its addictive.
And maybe the characters syart out stereotypical, but I think they break them with a lot of character development. I mean I really understand where Kira is coming from. Maybe that person thinks she's damsle-distressy. And maybe so, but some people are like that. Or wish they were(Despote all the feminime, we shouldn't be like that and are'nt like that stuff.). I mean I've been through some stuff similar to Kira. And well I guess unless you've been through it you may not think her actions are realistic or whatever. But I really saw a lot me in her.
And whether or not its a pretty overused story-line, I think Mars is a *great* Manga. The characters(Like Harumi, I thought she seemed all B**** at first, and she'd be the typical girl you love to hate, but she ends up being really nice. :D) to me are quite intrueging(And no, I'm not a sheltered little kid, I, in fact make studying people my hobby. :D). And I'm always wondering what will happen next, I figure they'll probrably end up together in the end, but maybe they wont. Either way I'm more concerned with what happens along the way.
So I say give Mars a shot, I mean its made me think a little about myself, and make me try to get over some things in the past. So it can't be all bad. :D
And well, its not for everyone. So maybe you'll hate it and maybe you wont. And there is vulgarity, violence, and sexuality. So beware.! :)
God Bless ~Amy
A classic that you'll diplay on your shelf with pride.......2003-01-24
This series has the best qualities that you wish every story had. The plot is intersting and well formed, the characters are lovable and have alot of depth, the artwork is beautiful (especially the character designs, Rei is hot!), and so much more. I usually stay clear of most romance and shoujo(girls) manga, but I've become addicted to this series. I even got my sister (who NEVER reads anything) to read these books and she's in love with them too.
Mars is a classic series and it's easy to see why tokyopop picked this title to help launch their manga collection which has become such a huge success. (check out the publisher's other titles if you get the chance)

Book Description
Seymour Simon has written more than 150 award-winning science books about animals, anatomy, astronomy, earth science, and vehicles!
Named after the Roman god of war, Mars has fascinated people for thousands of years. Did you know that . . .
- A Martian year is 687 Earth days, almost twice as long as a year on Earth.
- Mars's biggest valley, Valles Marineris, is four times as deep as the Grand Canyon!
- Scientists think that Mars, now rocky and barren, once had an ocean, rivers, and a thicker atmosphere.
- The first robot ever to explore the surface of Mars is only about the size of a child's toy wagon.

Seymour Rocks Mars.......2006-01-29
This was a Christmas present for our 5 yr old who has recently discovered the thrill of our solar system. He reads it continually and has many of Seymour Simon's other books about our solar system. He loves them so much and has started sharing them with some of his friends. He constantly relates planetary trivia to me which shows me that he's not just looking at the pictures.
This Mars book is written incredibly well. I'm amazed at how Seymour Simon can speak to a 5 yr old and adults. The artwork and photographs within the book are incredible. I love this and all of Mr. Simon's books we've seen so far. I highly recommend this as a reading tool for any kid that is interested in planets or space in general. If they love the book, they'll keep reading!

Book Description
Danny, his brothers, and the rest of the clubhouse crew are at it again. Since returning their dangerous snake and reptiles to the wild, they've found a meteor "from Mars," as Neil, a visiting neighbor, has determined it. So begins a quest to find flying saucers and make contact with Martians. But such top secret work can be tricky when the "Martians" come looking for their lost meteor. School Library Journal calls The Dangerous Snake and Reptile Club "an appealing tale.... Throughout the story, readers see how well the youngsters work and play together, and allow their imaginations to take them on a super adventure." Now, with a telescope, crystal radio, and amateur chemistry set, the gang takes part in a second uproarious true tale of brothers, best friends, and the extraordinary adventures they create. Use the secret alphabet at the back of the book to decode Neil's mystery letter or to create messages of your own.
Customer Reviews:
A around great read!.......2006-10-05
After Danny and his friends see a Martian movie, they spend the night in their clubhouse where their imaginations run wild. Before long they are seeing flying saucers and radioactive meteors. Upon further examination, and with the help of whiz-kid Neil, they determine that the meteor is safe. But when an odd shape appears on the horizon, the boys determine the aliens want their meteor back. Thankfully, they have Neil around to act as their ambassador so the aliens can leave in peace.
Space Station Mars is full of wonderful, whimsical childhood imagination, and plenty of humor. The beautiful illustrations reflect not only what they boys are seeing, but what they hope to see and what really is. This mom sees what life used to be and the children only see fun. Our gang can't wait to get our hands on the rest of the Clubhouse Books.
An all-around great read for any child's library.
Armchair Interviews says: This series is sure to be a winner.
Kid Will Be Kids.......2005-08-22
This book is breath of fresh air for the younger reader. It gives the reader permission to use their imagination to the fullest. The books of this series also work well as read alouds.

Great Gift.......2004-02-01
I was addicted to these books when I was younger and it wasn't until I was majoring in education in college that I figured out why. They were interesting with bizarre plot twists that most 9-12 year olds don't think about and they were short (usually between 110-130 pages). I could read the whole thing in a day.
My parents also didn't have a lot of heartache with buying me a new book because these are relatively inexpensive (in the neighborhood of 3-5 bucks each).
R.L. Stine's "Goosebumps" books aren't scary, just kind of creepy. There aren't graphic descriptions of murder and mayhem. Just some ghosts, werewolves, or potions. The main character is alive in the end, and the final chapter resolves everything.
**Keep in mind, R.L. Stine has other books that aren't in the "Goosebumps" series that tend to be a little harsher when it comes to hauntings and plot. They are written more for the 12-14 age group and are longer (around 150-200 pages).
out-standing!!!!!.......2003-01-19
you have to read and order this!
the best one is egg mon. from mars.
it is out of print!
so is say cheese and die again.
2 out of print books!
Not worth reading........1999-04-09
My simple advice to anyone ever wanting to read any of this guy's books is not to do so. Otherwise you might end up in a mental hospital surrounded by the millions who have already read his books.

Whoops! When Ricky offers his gigantic robot friend his parents' minivan as a skateboard substitute, neither mouse nor robot considers the consequences. Sure enough, the skateboarders wipe out, and the van is squashed. Now it's up to the "boys" to earn some money to pay for the damage. "Meanwhile, about 35 million miles away on the planet Mars, there lived a mean little monkey who was hatching an evil plan." Good thing for Ricky and Robot, because, well, one intergalactic battle leads to another, and pretty soon these two have earned themselves a brand-new rocket-powered minivan from the general of the Squeakyville Air and Space Association, in gratitude for saving Earth from Major Monkey and his mecha-monkeys.
Young readers will be pleased as punch to see this latest title in Dav Pilkey's series, which includes Ricky Ricotta's Giant Robot vs. the Mutant Mosquitoes from Mercury and Ricky Ricotta's Giant Robot vs. the Voodoo Vultures from Venus, all illustrated with Martin Ontiveros's funny black-and-white drawings. (Ages 5 to 10) --Emilie Coulter
Book Description
Ricky Ricotta and his Mighty Robot are in big trouble. After crashing the Ricotta family mini-van while using it as a skateboard (it's the only thing big enough for Robot), they have to earn some money quickly to pay for repais. While they're thinking how on EARTH they are going to come up with the money...on Mars, mean Major Monkey is making plans to enslave mousekind! Major Monkey has had his eye on earth for some time now...and knows that the first thing he must do is get rid of that robot. Major Monkey tricks the robot into going to Mars. Now it's up to Ricky to rescue his robot and keep Major Monkey from menacing mankind.
Customer Reviews:
Great for becoming independent readers.......2006-08-10
My son was first drawn to the illustrations in Ricky Ricotta/Mighty Robot series but I held out buying the books because I thought they were "glorified" comic books. However, much to my surprise when I actually read it myself, it was quite hilarious.
The best part was that it was easy enough for my 5 year old to read on his own (with a little help), which was really a major coup as I could not get him to start reading chapter books.
We ended up buying all 7 books and he has already read 4 of them in 2 weeks!
The author's website also has some great games.
This book is great!.......2004-08-22
In this, the fourth Ricky Ricotta book, Ricky and the Mighty Robot face their gravest threat yet. Major Monkey is tired of being alone on Mars, and decides that he will conquer the Earth, and to do that he must first put the Mighty Robot out of the way. Can Ricky save the Mighty Robot and the Earth, all at the same time? You bet he can!
This book is great! The drawings are black-and-white, but are quite funny, and go along great with the story, which is hilarious! My ten-year-old son picked out this book (he's into robots right now), and loved it. The book contains some "Flip-o-rama" pages, where you rapidly flip the pages back and forth and watch the somewhat-animated cartoon, which we both thought was pretty cool. The text is pretty short, and definitely not challenging to him, but he nonetheless loved this book. We highly recommend this book.
Pilkey strikes again.......2002-02-13
We just had to get the latest Ricky Ricotta book as my 4 1/2 year old son is in love with Ricky Ricotta and Captain Underpants. I find the Ricky Ricotta series a little less humorous and more boiler plate than the Captain Underpants series, however my son loves them both. The Flip-O-Ramas are great as usual and my son now makes up the sound effects. He also really enjoys going through how to draw each character at the end. He hasn't tried to actually draw them yet. All of the books in this series have a villain from another planet who Ricky Ricotta's Giant Robot is able to defeat and put in jail. My son loves seeing the old villains in the jail windows at the end of the story. I sure hope the next book in the series comes out soon because I don't know how long my son can wait. If your kids like Captain Underpants, Ricky Ricotta is likely to be a favorite, although I think some older kids may find it boring in comparison. It is easier to read, however, and would be a good book for a beginning reader to read themselves.

The Backyardigans are on a mission...to Mars! A strange signal has been coming from the Red Planet, so Pablo, Uniqua, and Austin blast off into space to investigate. At first all they see are rocks, craters, red soil, and a lake. But they soon discover...they're not alone!
Customer Reviews:
Very nice.......2007-03-09
It is very nice it is a book and grand daughter love them but she is 3 so not into books to much LOL :)
Blast-Off!.......2006-10-22
"Mission to Mars" is the fourth "Backyardigans" 8x8 book based on a television episode to be released. In this high-flying adventure, Pablo, Uniqua and Austin blast off for the fourth planet in our solar system, the red planet of Mars. Investigating a strange signal, they're being backed up at Mission Control by Tyrone and Tasha.
The Backyardigans head to Mars to investigate the signal "boinga boinga boinga." Once there, they face meteor showers, rough terrain and worse. But astronauts never give up when they have an important mission to complete.
Personally, I don't think "Backyardigans" episodes translate as well to books as some shows, given all of the songs and humor that are used on the television program. However, this is still a fairly nice adapation of this "very special episode" of the program.

One Swell Reader!.......2001-12-01
Ryan loves to play soccer (eventhough he might get distracted sometimes on the field)...and his mom loves to go to his games. Unfortunately she's often a little over-enthusiastic. Ryan gets a little embarassed. He cooks up a plan to trick his mom...and then (along with the rest of the team) misses her when he thinks she's not there.
This is a great Easy Reader for a good first grade reader or an average second grade reader. ESPECIALLY if they love soccer.
Cute & expressive pencil illustrations add to the fun. It even covers the thorny subjects of honesty and (obviously) being embarassed over the actions of a parent in language any second grader can understand.
