Customer Reviews:
Great manga!.......2003-10-06
I have alawys loved most manga but MARS is one of my favorites. When I first encountered it the plot seemed extremely cliche and boring, but when I started reading it I couldn't stop. This is not the average romantic-good-girl-helps-corrupted-bad-(but good on the inside)-guy. It has some major twists that, while you may see coming, are always intense. I have read up to 11 but cannot wait to finish it- Mars is that riviting!
mars #4.......2002-10-10
This whole series is the best manga I've read. It is wonderful and I would recommend it for everyone who like intrigue and romance. The characters are original and very interesting. I can not wait for the next book to be published.

Customer Reviews:
Addiction.......2004-03-11
I've gotten my friends where I live addicted to Manga books. We all went to Tokyopop.com and looked at the books and most of us wanted to read MARS. And then my friend found it in our school library and we were instanly hooked. MARS has a storyline that is simplistic and easy to follow, nothing where you have to memorize which robot is which and whose screwing who. MARS is about love, its how a good girl can chagne a bad boy forever.
Kira and Rei are the obvious main characters of the book, and the story revolves around their love. I personally love it because of the leassons they learn and the realistic problems they face (such as jealous ex-girlfriends, jealous bestfriends, and a world of sex).
Not just for girls........2003-08-20
My group of friends and I are really into manga books. I never really was, however. One of them handed me MARS #1 and I read it within 3 periods. I flipped out. I needed the next one. MARS was an addiction. A combination of wonderfully drawn artwork and a twisted story. I say twisted because it has everything, humor, violence, love, fear, sadness. I loved it. I still have not read 11-15 but am eager to. The cover says something about it being a story for teen girls but I am a 16 year old guy and I still liked it. I think other manga fans will too, despite their gender!
Love and Motorcycles.......2002-11-27
There are inumerous shojo manga (girl's comics) artists in Japan. To pick one that would describe them all would be to choose Fuyumi Soryo's Mars.
The story follows the standard good girl meets bad boy and love developes despite all odds. What could very easily fall into the "overbeaten" path has actually blazed its own way into being a highly believable and totally addictive tale. Fifteen volumes in all, TokyoPop has released about five or six volumes so far.
The story revolves around the shy and reclusive artist Kira Aso and the overly popular motorcyclist Rei Kashino. Kira has always found the rebelious Rei to be obnoxious and loud, way too much for her quiet artistic life to accept. When a chance meeting in the park ignites a stirring romance that blossoms in the very first volume, readers will become totally enthralled with every twist and turn fate deals out for the two young lovers.
Angsty and yet humorous (take a look at Tatsuya's shirts and Rei's cigarette pack for a little extra english humor...), Mars proves Fuyumi Soryo as one of Japan's great shoujo manga artist/authors. The artwork is stunning and brings the characters to life on every page (sometimes I could just 'see' the motions of the motorcyle racing, particularly in volume three). What could have been very stereotypical and very forgetable is, in actuality, simply stunning! It's a great read through and through! I would recommend this to people who like Marmalade Boy, Paradise Kiss, Maison Ikkoku, and Peach Girl.
Suprising.......2002-11-27
I read alot of mangas but I'm not really into the high school dramas but I read this one and it just captured me. It's about every high school girls students dream, to be the one that goes out with the most popular guy in school. That was not the same for Kira Aso, who just wanted everyone to just leave her alone and let her paint. That's when Rei Kashino, the most popular guy in the school starts to fall head over heals for Kira. They find out alot about each others past good and bad but that does not bother then because they love each other and nothing or no one is going to stand in there way. I don't want to ruin the rest of the story cause it starts to get really good. It's pretty much about how a hight school love can turn into something even greater. Trust me this is one manga you are going to want to read

Customer Reviews:
hey! when's the next one come out..........2002-12-31
well this is the seventh volume in a 15 volume saga of the 2 main characters kira and rei.... and what mighty fine characters they are. in this volume, the athor (soryo) throws even more undercuts and sucker punches than in the previous volumes. i can't imagine how she comes up with it all! but anyhow, moving on ----> rei is torn apart from the inside when he begins to compare himself w/ the twisted masao (and thinks he's like the major sicko) from the previous manga (the 6th! come one pple keep up!). because of this he agonizes over his current relations and such (i won't go into too much more detail) but let's just say kira also has some issues that most of the followers of this manga will begin suspect (and slap themselves on the head for not realizing it earlier... lol like myself for instance).
well i can't honestly say this manga is for every shoujo lover out there, but i'm certain many would enjoy it. however, interested readers must note that this isn't ur sailormoon or marmalade boy type of manga where it's all fun and spastic (which is cool in it's own right), but this manga is meant for readers looking for very indepth characters and a very convoluted and entangling story plot that looks into the "why's" of people... or some such nonsense. it's very good. really. ah i can see it in ur eyes that u don't agree with me... well wander over to ur manga store and take a gander at the first volume and then u'll see what i mean! this is margi, over and out!
Mars #7.......2002-12-14
This story is very addictive.....I just can't put it down...If you like shojo(girls manga) then you have to get this serise. It's not the kind of manga that you can just start in the middle, try the first book first. they all connect.
Plus the artwork is fablous......There may not be much backround, but the facial experssions are the best I have seen.

I just wanna say..........2004-07-27
I am 12 years old, and this book was kind of innapropriate, so i suggest, that yea, while the label says 13 and up, 12 year olds who are obsessed with the series should be able to read it too. Oh, and i just wanna say, MAN!!!THAT LADY CAN DRAW!!!! But anyone under that age shouldnt be able too. I mean, i'm pushin' the bar here, but, if you have a little kid that wants to read it, no acceptions. Besides, it might be hard for them to understand anyways. Now that i've rambled, i want to say, in the series up to this point, the author has created a wonderful storyline, well developed characters, and exquisite art that should be admired by all.....people over 13 that is.....
Great for teens, bad for little kids.......2004-06-03
GAWD this book was one of the best in the series. Kira and Rei! It finally happens! Sucks for Shori from earlier volumems but I digress. This book is great for Mars fans 13 or older, how ever, there are some young budding fan girls (younger that 13) for whom this would probobly be inappropriate. It is, how you say "graphic" inthe nudity depo. Not too much, but just enough that I strongly recommend adhearing to the age lable on the back. For all you appropriate readers however, GO READ IT NOW. DONT DELAY. MAY SOME RABID OTAKU SMACK YOU ON THE NOGGIN IF YOU DELAY ANY FURTHER. Well said my peice. Enjoy.
Great.......2004-04-18
This book has made me fall in love again. Not only is this my favorite book but this has one of the best pictures ,(especially the sex part).I recommend not sharing with this with kids under 13.This book is great and it's so romantic since there getting back together.
Another Hit!.......2004-01-02
Soryo's work keeps you captivated and begging for more! After reading the first book, I not only fell in love with the story but the characters and artwork. Unlike some "manga" books, the artwork is clean and smooth, and not sex obsessed. This is the only book in the series with any sex that may not be appropriate for younger readers (under 12 or 13). At first glance this may seem like the stereotypical bad boy-good girl love story, but the twists and turns and emotions you get are something completly different! This book is more than worth it! I just count the days until I can read the next one!

Book Description
They say that opposites attract, and in the case of artist Kira and biker Rei, that couldn't be more accurate. To innocent Kira, it may seem like a dream come true that the most popular guy in the school is going out with her, but that dream becomes a nightmare when jealous girls start plotting against her. Jealousy leads to desperation, and desperation leads to suicide. Kira soon finds her life more complicated than she can handle. Cutting-edge storytelling for today's teens, Mars is a story that no shojo manga fan should be without.
Customer Reviews:
Awesome! Totally relatable.......2006-12-26
this book rocked. Not gonna drone on like the rest of my reviews except to say read this. I loved how you could tell just how different these two were. Short book, but had me on the edge of my seat all the way. Finished in twenty minutes, but came back to read my favorite parts. And the picture when they kiss and they're sparkling! AWESOME ART MAN! Get this book.
This is Jumaane
Awesome.......2006-11-19
If you dig love stories and like manga, this series is a MUST READ. The artwork is very good and the characters are expressed very well, the plot is insanely good, and its fifteen volumes long, meaning that there's a lot more to love! And, the main character drives a Ducati Monster, the awesomest bike in the universe. What more could you ask for???
OMG! OMG!OMG!!!!!!.......2006-05-14
I love this series. I am hooked and i can't stop!! I must not read spoilers!! AGH!!!! Since i'm too lazy (cheap actually) to go buy the book myself,i will just have to wait until the library orders more.. I don't know where i have been before Mars,i have not lived life that's for sure.
Good for Starters.......2006-04-09
This was my first manga I'd ever read, eons ago. Recently, I decided to go back and reread it...and I have to admit, I was slightly shocked.
After reading all this other manga that I have, I have come to realization that...Mars is no longer my favorite manga like I've claimed. In fact, it's not up there at all. Depressing start, but anyway, here goes the actual review:
The first thing I noticed about Mars after going back to it was that everything was so...blah. The conversations are blah. The art is blah. And backgrounds? There are hardly any backgrounds to speak of. Kira irritates me anymore. Used to, I thought she was shy and sweet, but after reading about all these other heroines with more mettle and more spunk, and some, more shyness than her, I just got irritated. She was saccharine sweet, and I no longer got to know her and like her like I did the first time I read it. Rei seemed...I don't know how to describe it, but I didn't fall in love with him anymore.
And now that I've seen other manga, the story line seems so over used. Now, don't get me wrong! I'm all for the "Good Girl meets Bad Boy and they Fall in Love and Stay Together Despite All Odds" storyline. In fact, I love that storyline (along with all the generic others I've read.) But in others, there are always twists. And if there aren't twists, the storyline is more in depth, and the characters are more lovable. And...I really don't see that anymore in Mars.
But, as there always are, there are good things about Mars. For one, it is good for beginners to get used to that reading right-left thing. What with the conversations being simple in Mars, they're easy to follow and easy to figure out where you're going. I used Mars as trainer books to my friends who wanted to start reading manga but had trouble with the right-to-left format. And while I may complain, it is still a nice, simple love story at heart. Not excellent, but nice and simple, so if you don't want anything too complex, then go ahead and grab Mars. And plus, the whole series is out now, so if you hate buying manga and not being able to read the ending RIGHT AWAY, this is one of those series that are for you.
Totally exhilerating series--great way to begin!.......2006-03-11
This is the first book in the 15 book shoujo manga series from Japan. It features Rei, the bad boy who's a motorcycle racer, and Kira, the quiet artist who strays away from boys and attention. And of coarse, opposites attract.
Rei asks Kira, one day, for directions to a hospital that his friend is at. Kira says nothing, then gives Rei a map that she just drew. On the back is an amazingly beautiful picture of a mother holding her baby. Rei takes the picture to his heart since his mother died when he was about 5.
Rei and Kira end up in the same class and she tries to ignore him, but he won't let her. Rei ends up modeling for Kira and he says he will pay her by protecting her. At first this works, until Harumi, a girl that Rei went out with that still loves him, tells Kira to stay away from Rei. Kira doesn't listen and Harumi almost breaks Kira's fingers. Rei comes and all is good, til' the next book.

Awesome.......2007-07-21
My 2 teenage daughters love the Mars series. So far, #8 has been their favorite. I finally started reading the series myself and it is a wonderful animae teenage love story.
Intense volume.......2005-07-16
In this volume, Kira's past is revealed. Kira tells her boyfriend, Rei about when she was raped by her stepfather, shocking Rei. Kira reveals that their is a side of herself that she's afraid of. Kira goes to school the next day and Rei picks her up and takes her out on the beach to relax. They discuss Kira's past and Kira tells Rei about their first real meeting and how he is special to her. Rei and Kira go out at night and Kira and Rei kiss. Kira goes home, very happy, until she finds out that her stepfather, the one who raped her years ago, has returned to live with them. How will Kira react? How will Rei react? Read this great volume to find out!
Woot!.......2003-10-19
I guess its a very typical premise. Bad Boy/Good Girl get together and have turbulent relationship.
I've only read to volume 8(And that's only because I can't buy them all at once!). As of today I've that's what I've read. And I love it, its addictive.
And maybe the characters syart out stereotypical, but I think they break them with a lot of character development. I mean I really understand where Kira is coming from. Maybe that person thinks she's damsle-distressy. And maybe so, but some people are like that. Or wish they were(Despote all the feminime, we shouldn't be like that and are'nt like that stuff.). I mean I've been through some stuff similar to Kira. And well I guess unless you've been through it you may not think her actions are realistic or whatever. But I really saw a lot me in her.
And whether or not its a pretty overused story-line, I think Mars is a *great* Manga. The characters(Like Harumi, I thought she seemed all B**** at first, and she'd be the typical girl you love to hate, but she ends up being really nice. :D) to me are quite intrueging(And no, I'm not a sheltered little kid, I, in fact make studying people my hobby. :D). And I'm always wondering what will happen next, I figure they'll probrably end up together in the end, but maybe they wont. Either way I'm more concerned with what happens along the way.
So I say give Mars a shot, I mean its made me think a little about myself, and make me try to get over some things in the past. So it can't be all bad. :D
And well, its not for everyone. So maybe you'll hate it and maybe you wont. And there is vulgarity, violence, and sexuality. So beware.! :)
God Bless ~Amy
A classic that you'll diplay on your shelf with pride.......2003-01-24
This series has the best qualities that you wish every story had. The plot is intersting and well formed, the characters are lovable and have alot of depth, the artwork is beautiful (especially the character designs, Rei is hot!), and so much more. I usually stay clear of most romance and shoujo(girls) manga, but I've become addicted to this series. I even got my sister (who NEVER reads anything) to read these books and she's in love with them too.
Mars is a classic series and it's easy to see why tokyopop picked this title to help launch their manga collection which has become such a huge success. (check out the publisher's other titles if you get the chance)

Customer Reviews:
Mars the Fifth.......2004-04-07
I just got back from a trip to Florida, and while there I bought books two through five and I've already read each three times (at least). But anyway, about the Fifth.... Book five reveals yet more parts of Rei's past to Kira and a lot of Rei's perspective on why Sei did what he did when Kira spends the night. Shiori's still there (blehh), trying to get Rei back by any means nessecary, which includes pleading and a great deal of crying; which seems to be going on a lot lately. More news!: Rei and Kira's relationship is really lacking anything past hugging and kissing (catch my drift?), and Rei may start to lose interest if things dont't heat up soon!
A common love story...? not quite..........2002-11-04
I had been wanting to get my hands on MARS #1 for sometime now and I wasn't disappointed when I finally had it in my hands and read it. It was simply beautiful! the art isn't as flourish as CLAMP's yet it has this certain simplicity that captivates you from the very start.
The story is about how two entirely different worlds clash, starcrossed lovers meet and create this balance in their surroundings. Kira is incredibly shy while Rei is incredibly outgoing. The very start of the saga and how, given the circumstances they meet and as different they are... they are perfect for each other. What I love most about this manga is how love is portrayed as something so beautiful and simple, not with those silly vows that in the end no one commits. True undying love. This manga is filled with tension, suspense, love, fear, jealousy, admiration... I assure you won't be disappointed and will be desperate for the next volume!
A must for any shoujo-manga collector's shelf.
A good addition to a manga collection.......2002-11-01
On a suggestion from a magazine article on graphic novels, I ordered the first few translated volumes of this manga for the high school library for which I work. We are in the process of building a small graphic novel collection and this series is just the kind of teenage romance that will go over well. All of the characters have their foibles and the main romance has all that angst that the girls seem to love. The art style is very pretty and detailed without being muddy. As with all of TokyoPop's translations, this is read from right to left and back to front like authentic manga but each volume has instructions for how to do this. It's harder than it might seem.

The End Of Mars.......2004-01-21
For those who picked the book up when it first came out, and where sucked into it's wonderful art and most creative story, then you must know that this series gets better book by book, and as sad as it may be, the ending is perfect for it. Several unanswered questions come into play... will Kira tell Rei about the letter form Sei? How will old characters come into play? Will they be happy or will it end in tears? Only one way to find out! I enjoyed this manga however, because it was a perfect ending!
beautiful!.......2003-12-31
I have loved this series so much that I was almost sad when I picked up this volume...I knew it would end! Normally, I'm not one for dramatic soap operas, but there's something extremely compelling about Rei and Kira's story. The characters of Mars are simply fantastic and a joy to follow along. In this volume, Masao (yes, I groaned, too) reared his ugly head once again and escapes from the hospital only to stab Rei on his wedding night. They really scared me for a few pages when it seemed Rei was going to die (relax, ladies, he's just fine and dandy), and then thankfully, Rei gets back to racing. I can't wait until the Gaiden: Horse with No Name comes out. June...*sigh* Anyway, a great end to a great manga series!

Customer Reviews:
Recaptured me. .......2007-01-18
I first started reading Mars when it was published in the shoujo manga magazine Smile, it stuck out to me but when Smile stopped printing in July 02' I didn't pick up on any of the series they put out there. Then about four years later I looked back on them with my best friend and Mars was the one that recaptured my interest. Since I own the first two books from Smile, I picked the third copy at Borders and I have continued to collect them (up to volume six now). Considering that it had been almost half a decade until I reread this series, it's saying something that I would still enjoy it so much (even more so now).
This particular volume starts going more in depth with Rei's twin brother Sei who had committed suicide when they were in Junior High. Oddly, Kira seems to share some very eerie similarities with him which raises some more serious questions. It also takes place as Rei is motorcycle racing in Suzuka and Kira is completing her painting of him. One of my favorites quotes is from Rei's friend Kyoko (a fellow motorcycle racer) when she says "Watching Rei's riding makes you realize that racing was made for men. Of course there's the physical strength aspect but our minds are structured differently. The instict to fight is purely male."
Mars is a manga worth picking up because although it may seem like a simple "good girl bad boy" love story, they're many powerful observations about life that transcend the romance itself, and great characters that keep the romance interesting. Awesome read.
A good manga book!.......2004-03-12
Just getting hooked off Maralade Boy, I thought that was the greatest book in the world, then I saw an advertisement on Mars.I thought it was quite interesting , so I said I wanted to get it. As lucky as it might sound , I was in the library when I saw Mars 1& 2 .Well I might have taken both of them but I knew my friend wanted one. After I read 1 & 2 , I was hooked but not as much as my friend .She ordered numbers 3,4,5,and 6. Right now she's waiting for 7,8,9,10,and 11.So do think someone would buy the whole series if it wasn't good? Well think again it's a great manga , perhaps the best.If you like romance and relationships I think you'll like it it even has action too. Also if you LOVE motorcycles there will be alot of it because Rei likes motorcycles.
Wasn't popular in Japan for nothing........2004-02-29
Great! Emotional and moving. You really do fall in love with Rei and Kira. They're very real and the artwork is great.
Mars is a wonderful series........2003-07-06
Mars is a beautiful story of a bad boy and a good girl who alter eachother's lives. The two main characters are recovering from tragedies in their past, and sharing those haunting memories with eachother, they begin to escape the ghosts that shadow them and begin with a fresh start that they share together. I've never read a better series of graphic novels. This is one that I think anyone could enjoy. The characters are wonderfully created, and the art unique. It is a story that I will never forget.
Mars. Love it........2003-03-26
WOW!!!
What can I say about Mars that isn't already said. Mars is wonderful. It's in a class of it's own.
The artwork is realistic, fresh, crisp and enjoyable to look at and read. Attention to details. It's just wonderful.
The story is well thought out. It's good girl meets bad boy love story with ups and downs, secrets to be revealed and love triangles. The plot is well formed and enjoyable. The art is realistic. It doesn't give you a toothache from being too sugary sweet like alot of mangas out there.
There is alot of more mature scenes further ahead. There is some swear words. If you don't want to handle some physical violent scenes, swear words, or sexual scenes, than look else where.
