Review: I Can't Belive I Said That.......2001-10-11
I read the autobiography of Kathie-Lee Gifford. The book was based on a girl who was born in a small French town struggled though her upbringing, and managed to make it big. The author made excellent use of various writing tools, including flashbacks, when she describes her childhood. Also, the author was good in the way things were phrased (ex. instead of saying, she didn't have the best teeth, it was stated " so I didn't have a future of starring in toothpaste commercial"). It was a good book to read because the author made me feel as though I was there and could feel what was happening. The realistic details made me feel as though I could see the small home in which she was born. I could feel her pain as she experienced her second miscarriage. I was shocked when I learned of her struggle through her first marriage and how she managed to come out stronger then she was when she entered it.
I think this book would appeal to female's readers more so then it would to the male. Obviously, the main character is a woman, therefore the female reader would better relate to the book. This book tells a great story about the exception to America's woman. Instead of being battered and worn, Kathie-Lee, was strong and resilient. She came from a small town, had a hard upbringing, and is now not only a dedicated mother and wife, but also a role-model, and a sucessful actress.

Customer Reviews:
Probably one of the best in this series.......2007-02-28
My child and I both love it. This is a multi-layered book that is fun and teaches so many different things. It helps teach the name of farm animals and shows their roles and the tasks they undertake. It also teaches a child that sometimes it takes time to find a friend and accept rejections. It also teaches a number of french verbs and vocabulary. Add to it the sounds that animals make and you have a winner.
Puppy Finds a Friend is just right!.......2007-01-10
Perfect for our needs - just like all the other I Can Read Stories in French!
Another good language book.......2006-11-08
This book, like the others in the series, is well-written, comprising a little story that is intelligible to even my under-2 son. The parallel story structure (English and French on each page) really helps him understand that two words can mean the same thing.
The pronunciation script in the back of the books in this series allow my wife (not a lick of French study in her background) to make a passable attempt at reading the stories when my son demands the French version over the English.
Great book!.......2006-08-30
My daughter loves this book. The pictures are really cute. From about age 1, she would point to the various animals and we would make the animal noise. As she got older she can try to say the name of the animal in both English and French. This is a fantastic book.
perfect for learning.......2003-05-19
This is perfect for children (or adults!) learning french. It uses repeatition and variation to teach several different simple sentence structures and useful vocabluary words. Cute pictures.
I thought the explainations on how to pronounce the words was great as I could comprehend what it was instructing. Certainly, it gets the beginning pupil close enough!

When Biscuit meets two little kittens, he wants to be friends. He wants to play ball and run around. But the kittens are having too much fun with their own games to play with him. Biscuit doesn't give up, though, and soon the kittens find out what a good friend he can be.
This playful story is just right for young readers who are busy making friends of their own.
Customer Reviews:
GREAT for new readers.......2007-10-18
My 5 year old read this cover to cover - her 1st ever - and loves it. Getting more "Biscuit" books for her and my 3 year old. Short sentences, fun for the kids, really recommend for new readers.
My daughter loves Biscuit........2006-03-04
She borrowed the book from the school librarry and we somehow lost it. The librarian insisted I replace it - hence the order.
Biscuit lives on...
My first book review .......2005-05-21
The book Biscuit Wants to Play is about a puppy named Biscuit and two kittens. Biscuit wants to play with them, but they won't play with him. The kittens always want to play with something else. They run around and get stuck on a tree. Biscuit barks and barks until the girls come out and rescue the kittens from the tree
The author's purpose is to entertain the reader. When I was reading the book I was entertained by what the kittens and Biscuit did. Some parts in the story were funny. Another purpose is that the author taught me
that friend's are important. The author really entertained me I think the story was very cool and entertaining.
I think this author is a good author. I would recommend this story to my friend. I would read more stories from this author Alyssa Satin Capuclli.
A Good Book.......2005-05-17
This story is called Biscuit Wants to Play. This is a story about a puppy and two kittens. Biscuit wants to play with the kittens but they want to play with something else. When the kittens are stuck in the tree Biscuit helps them by barking a lot. Finally the girls come out to save the kittens.
The author's purpose is to entertain you when you read the book. The story was very entertaining when I read it. Another author's purpose is to teach the reader that friends are important.
Biscuit wants to play was a very fun and entertaining story. The author did a great job on the story. I would probably read more stories written by Alyssa Satin Capucilli because this story was good.
Biscuit and the Kittens.......2003-09-19
Biscuit meets a pair of kittens and decides he wants to play with them. But try as he might, the kittens pay no attention to him as they play and explore on their own.
But this changes when the kittens follow a butterfly up a tree and can not get down. Biscuit barks and gets the attention of The Girl In The Purple Sneakers and The Girl With Puddles and the little cats are rescued. We then see them playing with their helpful new friend Biscuit.
Another fine story. This one shows that while you may not always get your own way, things usually work out in the end. Filled with more adorable illustrations.

Customer Reviews:
The first book for teen girls who love volleyball.......2007-07-21
There are two books that target teen girls who love to play volleyball -- and this is the first one. [Well, if there are more books out there, I haven't been able to find 'em...] My teen identified with the characters and was also inspired by the meta-level message.
My Daughter Loved It.......2005-12-29
She's almost 13 and volleyball player...she wouldnt put it down. That's enough for me, but it's also a values book and something girl athletes can readily relate to. Hopefully there are other books in a series.
A great Book.......2005-12-22
The book Can I Play was a great book that is hard to put down. I bought this at a tournament in Chicago. The beginning of the book is kind of boring but in the middle and end the book really gets good. I have lent this to many other people and they feel the same way about the book. I would not reccomened this book to parents who have kids under 10, but I do for older teens. I would also reaccomend parents read this to, I believe you will enjoy reading this.
A Must Read For Every Girl Volleyball Player.......2005-10-14
This book captures real emotions, real situations and team concepts that could apply to any high school girl who loves to play volleyball. I recommend this book to any girl volleyball player that is entering high school or that is in high school already and those that play club volleyball too. Its an easy read and hard to put down once you have started. My daughter is now reading the book too. I can't wait for the next book to arrive.
AWSOME!!!!.......2005-07-25
OMG this book is the best!!!!!! if your looking for the volleyball athletic situation type of book, i would recommend this book... i've read this book 5 times total and i just cant wait for the next novel to come out... CHOOSE THIS BOOK!
If you liked this book try reading the next novel We Are A Team..... coming in Dec 20, 2005

Ruth Krauss and Mary Blair's I Can Fly won awards upon its first publication in 1951 and has not lost an iota of its charm. The first pages open to a girl standing on a swing, sailing high in the sky next to a bird whose feathers match her dress: "A bird can fly./ So can I." She can moo like a cow, grab like a crab, be merrier than a terrier, and pick, pick, pick like a little chick. Krauss's simple verses capture a child at play and provide wonderful rhythms for a lively, interactive read-aloud session: "Crunch crunch crunch/ I'm a goat out to lunch," Blair's playful illustrations are as exuberant as the story-poem, with their gorgeous (truly '50s!) palette and bold compositions that cleverly juxtapose the girl with her pretend animal playmates, page by page. Arms outstretched on the loops in the playground, the girl looks just like the crab with its grabby claws; eating celery at the table she mimics the goat eating flowers outside the front door. Young children will revel in the young girl's splendidly confident outlook:"Gubble gubble gubble/ I'm a mubble in a pubble./ I can play/ I'm anything that's anything./ That's MY way." We welcome this timeless classic back into print with open arms, much like an octopus might. (Baby to preschool) --Karin Snelson
Book Description
A bird can fly.
So can I.
A cow can moo.
I can, too.
So begins the simple, delightful rhyme by Ruth Krauss that both celebrates and encourages a child’s imagination. Mary Blair’s vibrant artwork, found in the Golden Books archives and newly scanned, looks as fresh as it did 50 years ago.

Brought back lost memories.......2007-06-18
I recently bought this book for my daughter, thinking that this book looked interesting and simple for a young child.
As we were reading this book before going to bed, I was surprised to discover that the words and pictures seemed somewhat familiar. When we came to the part "A clam is what I am" the memories came rushing back to me. Indeed I was familiar with this story, my mother read it to me as a little girl, it was a story in my little golden book library, a favourite set of books that I loved as a child, and the picture of the little girl pretending to be a clam, was a picture that I liked to look at.
I am really glad that Little Golden Books have chosen to re-release this story. I am happy that it brought back a memory I had lost, and will create a new memory for me and my daughter.
My Favorite Book when I was a child.......2007-04-04
I love this book, mostly cause of the illustrations, which capture everyone's imagination. I used to beg my mom to read me this one when I was young, and now my 18 month baby is beggin me to read it to her. She points to it on the shelf and says "Fly Fly Fly...." Anyway, there are many pages accompanied by short but cute rhyming phrases. I have no idea if boys will like this book as much as girls, but who knows. its an old book, done around the 50's (i think) but its timeless and i hope to read it to my grandchildren someday.
A great book for children and a nice trip down memory lane!.......2006-09-10
Be sure to get this classic. It so aptly captures the joy and innocence of childhood exploration of their surroundings. The colors are just gorgeous in the illustrations and it's just so sing-songy that it's quite easy for a little one to memorize. Very, very cute and a nice change from some of today's children's books. It's nice to go back a few years and read about the innocence of youth. Our little one truly loves this story (yes, we've read it over, and over, and over...) and we highly recommend it!
BRINGS BACK MEMORIES OF CHILDHOOD.......2006-07-19
This is a classic story book. Very simple, but the best thing about it are the pictures by the late Disney Legend Mary Blair. If you were a child in the sixties or seventies this book will bring back memories of a gentler time and the feelings we all at one time have that nothing is impossible -- because that word isn't in our vocabulary yet.
Some editions remove half the pages!.......2004-12-27
"I Can Fly" is a wonderful book. We purchased the board book edition after reading the hardcover from our library. We were very disappointed that two editions, at 24 pages, are quietly missing half the pages of the 48 page hardcover edition. The missing animals are "I can grab like a crab", "Who can walk like a bug? Me Ug ug", "Pick pick pick I'm a little chick", "Who can live in a hole? Me! Like a mole", "Who can climb anywhere? Me! Like a bear.", "Bump bump bump I'm a camel with a hump", "Haw haw haw I'm a donkey in the straw", "Howl howl howl I'm an old screech owl". You're missing out on half the fun here!
Book Description
The Grizzlies are one player short for their big game when who steps in but everyone's favorite house-keeper, Amelia Bedelia. Always cheerful, always literal-minded, Amelia Bedelia brings new meanings to tagging a player out and stealing bases, but her unorthodox plays may just save the day. Recolored by the original illustrator, perennial favorite Amelia Bedelia is ready to play ball!
Customer Reviews:
Play Ball, Amelia Bedelia is the best book........2006-01-25
Play ball, Amelia Bedelia reminded me of when the my team the Yankaes almost got beat but we won. I really liked this book.
Amelia Bedelia.......2004-09-30
Themes: Sometimes the literal meaning of certain phrases is not what they are intended to mean. Even if you get confused, holding a positive attitude and trying hard will pay off in the end.
Summary: Amelia Bedelia, a housekeeper who takes everything literally and knows very little about baseball, is recruited by the Grizzlies to play in their big game against the Tornados. The Grizzlies are short one player because he is sick. The humor begins when Amelia Bedelia shows up in her "uniform" to play the game. From that point on Amelia continues to take everything extremely literal. She "tags" players, and "puts them out". The story reaches its climax when Amelia Bedelia hits the game winning home run and on her way around the diamond, "steals" all the bases, and then "runs home" just like the Grizzlies tell her to do. When Amelia gets home she thinks that baseball is a very strange game. The Grizzlies show up, announcing they have won the game thanks to Amelia Bedelia. Amelia Bedelia serves cookies to the boys on "home plate" in celebration, even though she thinks it is a strange plate to be serving cookies on.
Evaluation: This is a very humorous fun story for children to enjoy and learn to read with. Amelia Bedelia is a lively well-rounded character. The fact that she takes everything completely literal will amuse children greatly. This in turn gets them interested in finishing the book, and even reading it themselves!
The lively colorful illustrations capture the fun and humor within the book. For example, they help to depict Amelia Bedelia in her "uniform", and "tagging" the other players, as well as "stealing the bases".
Overall this story is an excellent book to spark interest in reading for young children.
Amelia Bedelia "literally" plays the game of baseball.......2004-04-24
Not since Abbot asked Costello "Who's on First?" has the national pastime been taken so literally. Taking things literally is precisedly what Amelia Bedelia has been doing ever since she first became a housekeeper. Tell her to "Dust the furniture" and she will dutifully find the Dusting Powder and do as she was told, even though at her house they undust the furniture. In Peggy Parish's "Play Ball, Amelia Bedelia," the Grizzlies baseball team is in trouble when one of their players gets sick and they need a replacement for their big game with the Tornadoes. Who steps up to the plate to save the day up the literal-minded Amelia Bedelia.
The fun, of course, comes when the kids tell Amelia Bedelia to tag a runner or make a base hit. Then there is the uniform that she comes up with (you need a uniform to play baseball, right?). The illustrations by Wallace Tripp capture the fun as Amelia Bedelia plays the game of baseball like nobody has ever played it before. Besides, you should see what Amelia Bedelia looks like when she swings a bat. Fortunately, one things she knows how to do right is to fix an empty cookie jar because she makes really great cookies (although she has doubts about using home plate to serve them on to her teammates). Fans of Peggy Parish's creation will enjoy seeing her on the baseball diamond while there might be some fans of the sport who will be introduced to the literally-minded housekeeper for the first time.
Great Baseball Story.......2003-12-24
In this edition of Amelia Bedelia, Peggy Parish has done another wonderful job at telling a wonderful story. Amelia Bedelia is making an attempt to play baseball, and she has managed to take the lessons literally, as always. She learns stealing bases are okay and putting players out. This is a favorite in my household, and we laughed at Amelia Bedelia's attempts of playing baseball.
Our favorite part was when she hit the winning run, 'stole' every single base along the way, and she ran home like everyone told her to with all the bases. The kids were wonderful in this story and patient, and it was a fantastic read.
I recommend the Amelia Bedelia books for every household. Amelia Bedelia is a fun character, and it will make the kids laugh.
Joy.

Book Description
Brother and Sister Bear are teaching the younger bears to play T–Ball. But it's tough when the cubs don't know the difference between running to the home plate and running home! Will Brother and Sister Bear be able to put together a winning team?
Ages 4–8
Customer Reviews:
Great read for a little slugger.......2007-07-14
My twin 5 year olds played t-ball for the first time this spring. We bought this book recently and it made them laugh out loud. The story reminded them of the many funny things that happened when they were first learning the rules of the game. Wish we had read it before the season began. It's a fun read.
Great book!.......2007-03-16
This is such a cute book. Brother and Sister bear are trying to coach a T-ball team but neglect to teach the cubs how to play. So, when they're told to "run home" after making a hit, the little cub literally runs home to her house. This book is full of such little quips and makes learning about a sport very entertaining. It's also great for that little one just starting T-ball and learning about the game. Even sportsmanship is discussed as Brother bear learns that nothing is ever accomplished by stomping up and down on your hat! This book helped explain a lot in our house. Recommend!
Funny! With Stickers too!.......2006-08-09
I loved this book because of its humor. Great for teaching a young one about T-Ball and there is also the valuable lesson about teaching kids about teaching/coaching a sport. Also, fun stickers included!

- Where have you been all my life?
- Rather confusing book for young readers.

Book Description
Older brother thinks he knows the rules to hide-and-seek. But little sister has her own idea of how to play. And the resulting confusion, compounded by a lively dog, is hilarious. Now available for the first time in full-color and reformatted as a My First I Can Read Book, Crosby Bonsall's appealing story and simple text will delight emergent readers.

Where have you been all my life?.......2005-09-10
I was browsing in a bookstore connected with an English language school when I saw this title. For years I'd been hoping to find even one book which, oh please dear God just this once, end with something other than the same old, same old, tired old lecture that put-upon older siblings have no option but to eternally suck it up and keep swallowing their mounting exasperation.
More out of habit than hope I picked the book up and read it... and I bought it on the spot. I would have given anything for a book like this when I was younger! The drawing's not the greatest and the action is sometimes unclear, but there is nothing unclear about the initially welcoming older sibling's increasing frustration.
For firstborns, I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Only too many books out there already expressly FORBID them to open their mouths to stand up for themselves whenever the source of their irritation, exasperation, (and yes, I'm here to tell you, sometimes deliberate torture) just so happens to be YOUNGER!
Rather confusing book for young readers........2002-02-22
I ordered this book along with two other My First I Can Read Books for my daughter who is in first grade and is really struggling with reading. On the whole I was disappointed with it.
The words were pretty easy for her to read, but I had to do a lot of explaining for her to understand what was going on. The way the book is written, the child needs to look at the pictures to figure out what is going on. In fact, a few pages are completely without words. The problem is the pictures do not clearly show what is going on. I had to explain "See, the little girl doesn't know what to do. She is just standing there instead of looking for her brother. Oh, see, her brother is hiding in the pile of leaves. Oh, look, she is going to sit on the pile of leaves."
Another thing I did not like about the book was the ending, when the little sister doesn't play hide and seek the right way, her brother says he is not going to play with her anymore. That is not something I want to teach my daughter, who has two younger siblings.
The book is okay, but there are other My First I Can Read books that are better. Check out the Biscuit books. My daughter loves those, and they are really helping her with her reading.
Children with Younger Siblings Will Love This!.......2000-05-08
This book is about a little boy who is trying to teach his younger sister how to play hide-and-go-seek without much success. It is written in short sentences and easy vocabulary, making it ideal for the youngest of readers. Any child with younger siblings will identify with this little guy and his exasperation at having to play with his little sister!

Customer Reviews:
Great travel CD.......2005-07-26
We took a trip through 4 states and had purchased 5 sets of books on CD. They all worked out great. We put them in our portable DVD player w/double headset jacks and 2 of us could listen at the same time. We laughed together at how silly Amelia Bedelia can be. Great purchases with many years of enjoyment left in them.
