Book Description
This lovely collection tells of the hope and healing that comes from contact with horses. Whether used to give disabled riders a sense of freedom and mobility, to heal wounds of childhood abuse, to assist with work, or simply as loving companions, horses bond with people in ways that change them for the better. The stories, contributed by people from all over the country and from all walks of life, introduce Cholla, the horse who paints pictures; a veterinarian who was reminded of the importance of compassion by a dying horse and a Native American chief; Star, a horse who saved a teenage girl from suicide; the late-blooming rider who embarrassed a horse and learned an important lesson about respecting the feelings of others — even if they have four legs; and many others. Whether running through fields or performing intricate dressage drills, horses carry not only riders but messages of unconditional love and hope.

A touching collection of essays on the bonds between horses and humans........2007-05-01
This book comprises a collection of 38 short essays, all submitted by different authors, about the special ways in which horses have impacted their lives. The essays are divided into four categories. "Love and Dreams" focuses on how a the love of horses can affect people; "Healing and Health" contains stories about lessons learned from equine health troubles, as well as ways in which horses have taught people about their own health; "Courage and Endurance" collects stories about equine heroes and horses that have inspired the people around them; and finally "Spiritual Connection and the Afterlife" explores the spiritual and religious experiences humans have had in connection with horses. After each essay the authors pose a question or two for the reader, designed to prompt reflection on how the story may relate to your own life. At the end of each section is a short, fictional "Ask Zeke" page, where the authors have posed a question to their friend's horse, Zeke, and then composed an reply as if Zeke himself were answering. The stories are a mixed bag of themes, and some impacted me more than others. If you aren't a particularly religious person, you may find a couple of the more supernaturally-oriented stories a little harder to relate to, but on the whole the essays presented here are heartfelt and touching. My favorite pieces were "Emily's Song," about a withdrawn, lonely young girl who finally comes out of her shell in order to help and even lonelier, more withdrawn pony, and "Miracles are Something to Believe In," written by a 12-year-old girl who's pony Lilly saved her life by, counter-intuitively enough, falling on her in a freak accident. The book is a quick and easy read, suitable for horse lovers of all ages, and well worth the time. "Angel Horses" would be a great gift for any horse lover, or a nice treat for yourself.
I loved this book!.......2007-03-29
This was an inspiring book for a horse lover and Christian. Everything was as advertised.
Beautiful collection.......2007-03-12
This is a beautiful, inspirational collection of real life stories of the love, lessons learned and spirtiual connections that people have with horses.
Each story is sensitively told in the own words of the horse's owner/or the person who has the story to tell.
The book's major focus is on the spirituality and sensitivity of the horse and just how deep that goes in these beautiful creatures.
A gentle plea for people to open their hearts and minds to the wisdom and love horses have to offer at all stages of their lives.
I found the book to be touching and refreshing.
Angel Horses.......2007-03-10
Moving, heart-tugging, heart-warming, encouraging. This book hits all of those emotions! A great gift for the animal Lover--especially of horses (of course!!) Short stories make it easy to pick up and put down for a busy schedule too.
An outstanding survey recommended for horse enthusiasts as well as spiritual readers........2006-12-12
Connections between horses and humans have long been a part of literature and religious inspection, but ANGEL HORSES: DIVINE MESSENGERS OF HOPE takes thins a step further in offering stories of people whose happiness has roots in relationships with horses. Horses are increasingly used in therapy, so ANGEL HORSES supports this idea and offers up the notion of horses as bearers and teachers of unconditional love. An outstanding survey recommended for horse enthusiasts as well as spiritual readers.

Book Description
Leo Politi began life on a sunny horse farm near Fresno, California. At the age of six, he and his family moved to Broni, a small hill town in northern Italy. There Leo became known as "Il piccolo Americano," the little American. Although his adult fame would be as an illustrator and author, Leo's first foray into the art world may well have been more performance piece than anything else, making a sensation in town with the colorful Indian costume he wore daily. Before long, Leo was leading a troupe of similarly dressed children up and down the streets of Broni.
Though the tiny Italian village proved to be just as idyllic a place to live as the fields of Fresno, for Leo, California was home. So, as a young man, after a stint in the Italian army, Leo boarded a freighter bound for America. As the boat made its way along the Central American coast, Leo was entranced by the landscape, the color, and the people he saw. It was, in fact, the journey as much as the destination that would affect his artwork and subject matter.
Leo was a true innovator in children's books. Rather than setting his stories in a generic landscapethe city, the town, or the farmmany of Leo's books detail individual cultures. His most famous book, "The Song of the Swallows," combines his love of Latino life with a reverence for nature. A Caldecott winner, "The Song of the Swallows" tells of the clouds of birds that return each year to a small church courtyard in San Juan Capistrano, California. All told, Leo would write and illustrate over twenty books during the course of five decades.
In "Leo Politi: Artist of the Angels," Ann Stalcup, fan and friend of Leo's for twenty years, chronicles the life and career of a man who lived to create art. Over fifty of Leo's piecesfrom massive mural to delicate sketchenhance the story of his long and fruitful life.
Customer Reviews:
A Beautiful Tribute.......2005-09-04
I was thrilled to find Ann Stalcup's loving and scholarly tribute to Leo Politi. Superbly researched, filled with personal anecdotes, little known photos, and wonderful reproductions of Politi's vast body of work, the book explores the brilliant book creator's life and artistry.
As a child growing up in Los Angeles, Politi's books brought wonder, joy and a respect for my city --and other places as well -- to my childhood. I remember pouring through the illustrations for hours, and wondering about the artist behind the beautiful pictures and gentle stories, the dramatic compositions and exquisite, singing colors. Stalcup's book has helped provide an answer. Like his art, Politi the man was playful and kind, quirky and intelligent, and he endowed everything he created with a soul. His books are a true gift to children.
It seems tragic that only one or two of Polit's masterpieces are still in print. Surely our children deserve to know this man who truly loved them, just as Politi's books deserve a place in our bookstores, libraries, schools and homes. I hope that Ann Stalcup's book will help restore Politi's books to our world. We need his message of tenderness and dedication, beauty and joy more than ever. He was truly an angel to children.

Great stories!.......2007-07-23
I love Carol Kent's writing. In this book, she shares such good and humorous stories, but ones with a poignant side as well. I have used many of them to read on tape for a vision impaired, bed-ridden friend of mine who suffers from multiple sclerosis and can't read herself. She has enjoyed them and asks for more.

A Book Written in the Time of Grief but Love Shines Through..........2007-02-13
Mr. Kane has written a powerful documentation to the power of love, love that exists as: love of friends, love of home and most important, love of family and God. He uses his prose convincingly to present the facts surrounding the occurances that have occurred involving the number 41 ( and other events ), since the passing of his son in the Station Fire on 2-20-03. He lets the reader judge for themselves and presents the facts logically and honestly. It is his honesty that will make a believer out of whomever reads this book; and this honesty is propelled forward by the love he has for his family and for his son, Mr. Nicholas O'Neill. This book is a must-read as a true testament of the power of love and healing in the time of grief. I, for one, cannot wait for the next book from Mr. Kane.
41 Signs of Hope.......2007-02-13
This is an uplifting book, but it is somewhat repetitive. It did help my when I was really down after the loss of my brother, but it seemed that every chapter was quite predictible. Either way, it's an easy read.
Just believe.......2006-06-25
Since I live in Woonsocket, Rhode Island and am familiar with the Station nightclub tragedy and the story of "41 signs of hope" I wanted to read the book to have a more personal account of this tremendous loss that the writer has experienced. His re-telling of all the "signs" is amazing, believable and heartfelt. I read each chapter and had goosebumps through all the pages of this story. Read it and see and "feel" for yourself
Wonderful .......2006-04-10
A great book for people who feel they have been getting signs from departed family and friends and think no one will believe them. Also would be great for those people who don't know what signs they could be getting. I found it very helpful and comforting to hear of the authors signs affirming that our loved ones do try to let us know they are around us at times. We suffered the loss of our 22 year old nephew (Josh) in a motor cycle accident, who also wrote poems and left some wonderful things behind it has inspired us to do something with his art. Thank you for writing this book.

Book Description
When Heather Barlow returns from Africa, the joy she felt during her missionary trip fades. She's still suffering from unresolved grief over the death of her friend Ian, and now that she's back home in the United States, she feels directionless. And while Heather has changed a great deal, her family has not. She is discouraged to see that her sister, Amber, seems no more mature than when Heather left, her parents no less involved with a medical practice that caters to the wealthy.
Heather's sense of purpose is renewed when she persuades her mother to travel with her back to Uganda to try to save the baby she rescued on her mission trip. But when Heather becomes ill and cannot undertake the journey, Amber agrees to go in her place. Now Amber must emerge from her sister's shadow to grapple with the age-old question, "Am I my brother's keeper?"
Customer Reviews:
ONE OF HER BEST!!.......2007-05-25
Angel of Hope by Lurlene McDaniel is a great book if you like a romantic adventure. Lurlene McDaniel has written many books but I personally think this is one of her best. This is a wonderful book. I didn't want to put it down until I was finished reading it. It is a spectacular book about a young girl, Amber, who goes to Africa because her sister Heather became very ill and couldn't go back. She meets the people that Heather talked so greatly about from her trip on the Mercy Ship. Africa isn't at all what amber thought it out to be. She stayed with Paul and Jodene as Heather did on her trip. Amber soon met Boyce Callahan he was there working on a project. They quickly became friends. But is Amber ready for what Africa has in store for her next?
great.......2007-05-13
This book is about a rich girl who goes to africa or its about this girl named misty nobody likes read and you decide.
Well written and very sweet.......2007-04-15
After reading the first book in this series, I couldnt wait to read about Ambers story. I felt a lot like Amber, she doesnt know what she wants to do with her life after high school. I enjoyed the way that she grew throughout the story and know that her future held something bigger then she thought possable. This is a series that all Lurlene fans will want to read. Not only does this book talk about a world that most people never hear about, but it shows young woman that its ok to learn to spread your wings and fly. I truly enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to reading more book by this author.
Just Beautiful Review.......2006-10-25
Heather Barlow, the main character in Angel of Mercy, was back from Africa as a missoionary, and was trying to readjust to the big Miami lifestyle she used to be acustomed to. Although she was happy to return home to her family, she could not forget about losing her beloved Ian, or about little baby Alice, the child that she rescued that needed surgery. Heather was so sad to leave, nothing could detour her mind from returning, so she talks her mkom into returning with her, this would help because her mom is a surgeon. Her mother decides to go. A week before they leave Heather becomes ill, Amber her sister found her lying in a pool of blood on their bathroom floor. Heather's plans are then shattered because the doctor orders to stay in bed for at least two weeks. Seeing how upset her siter is about being away from Africa, Amber decides to take her place. When Amber arrives in Africa, she has no clue what to expect or what fate has in store for her.........
I loved this book, I loved the fact that it touched me so much. I cried reading the very end of it. I never expected what happened to happen because until the end it had you guessing. On a scale of 1-5 stars i would give it a 10, it was absoluetly beautiful!
*Touched*.......2005-11-15
Angel of Hope, talks about Heather dying. Her sister, Amber has decided to go on her journey and follow her sister`s shadow on her way to Uganda. She meets the most wonderful thing in her life, courage and love. Its an amazing book! Now, it`s been three weeks since I`ve read it, and yet I think about it everyday and keep on thinking about the special quotes Lurlene had put in this dramatic and romantic book. I`m currently reading "How I love thee" and the three stories stored inside, are the ones that you will never forget in your life. :) Lurlene McDaniel is the best author ever!
Book Description
Guardians of Hope is an angel-oriented selection of more than sixty practices that can lead to more joy, hope, fun, love, and adventure in everyday life. In this sequel to the international bestseller, Messengers of Light, Terry Taylor once again demonstrates her gift to empower and delight the reader in a series of practical, yet profoundly magical angel practices.:
Customer Reviews:
Lovely, uplifting book.......2006-06-15
A great workbook companion volume for Messengers of Light. Lots of lovely ideas on how to light an angelic spark in your life!
Another Lovely Book by Terry Lynn Taylor.......2005-01-31
This book blends beautifully with the rest of her books. I have just so enjoyed her work, I must sound like a babbling kid. Actually, hers are the books I reach for over and over and actually do not know how many times I have read them. Truly treasures.
You should get this book if you need help.......2000-09-28
You should get this book if you need help. Also, anyone who wants to be helpful in this life would do well to look into this book. Terry Lynn Taylor writes so clearly and effectively. Whatever your perspective, whatever your frame of mind, she will bring you something fresh, another and new way of seeing, thinking and feeling this Great Reality. She does not preach to you, instead, she writes straightforwardly and at a level that anyone, of any "spiritual" level can relate to. I have "been there and done that, wrote the book, drew the pictures and ate the crayons while watching the video." You may also be the same. But things change, our lives change and sometimes things get so difficult for so long that, after awhile, maybe a few years, maybe a decade, you might really be stuck and then what do you do? This book is very simple, very clear and goes right to the basics. Get a clear mind. She tells you how. And she goes far beyond that. You may have heard it before, but did you forget? Did the negativities of the "outer world" throw you a few curves and smack you with the bat? It can be confusing sometimes and sometimes you can get so lost that you don't know what to do and you have forgotten that anything can be any good any more! Guardians of Hope will help you remember, or help you connect again for the first time in this life. That is what angels are for, it is what they are, it is what they do: they Help! This book can help you out, or help a friend who needs the help you want to give but somehow can't. The main thing is to Love and Trust and ask for help. It will come. You won't get grinded through a guilt trip and you won't be inflicted by arrogance, instead you will feel Peace again and you will learn how to regain and develop Peace in your mind and in your heart. And before long, sooner or later, you really will know and feel the angels in your life. Then you can go "Duh" and have a good healthy laugh! But what if you or someone you love is so far gone that Love and Trust seem to be lost and hopelessness seems to be in control? Try this book out; read it yourself and/or give it to the person for whom you are so concerned. Guardians of Hope is good for anyone of any religious belief, Christians and all others. This book is good for even those who have no religion. This book is good for anyone who needs help or who wants to be helpful. You will understand about angels and begin to learn and change and grow and feel really glad to be alive. Your angels are waiting and they are so patient and so eager! Even if you have never been "spiritual" before all you have to do is give this book a try and give the exercises a try. Angels are for real (this Universe is Vast!)and they exist to help everyone, everywhere, all the time and all you have to do is ask: Trust and Love will come once you experience angels. This book will help you to work with them instead of negating their work and negating yourself. Good Life to you and may you find what you are looking for and when you get it, share the joy within your smile!

"As the phenomenal angel market soars...", here is..........1999-06-09
"As the phenomenal angel market soars...", here is a book about angels that is actually worth buying.
I met Hope Price, who was certainly not in it for the money. I personally know several of the people whose stories are in the book, and believe them to be credible people. And my account which appeared in the book was reproduced pretty accurately.
The book offers a Biblical background, historical accounts, and contemporary accounts. I would recommend it to Christians who are looking for ways to share their faith with people who are open to spirituality but not necessarily Christianity with a capital "C".
Which isn't to say the book is a 'hook'. It's first and foremost a good read.

An astonishing exposé of real-life faith and divine intervention that will open our eyes to the real miracles that are there for each of us whenever we need them.
Customer Reviews:
Miraculous.......2004-05-18
I had known Webb many years ago. Lost touch with him, but when I recently learned he had written a book, I was anxious to read it. Well, I read the entire thing in two days. Could not put it down. I was extrememly motivated and inspired. I am a beleiver, but I have not felt I was being fed spiritually recently. I had considered attending another church, I was blaming my lack of spirituality on my church and our newest minister. Lo and behold, this book has taught me that there is a difference between "faith" and "religion" and that you don't need an organized, structured setting to have a personal relationship with God. This book made me laugh, cry, and get chills up by back. The miracles that Webb has experienced are mind-boggling, but knowing him, they are definitely true. I look forward to putting into practice what this book has taught me, that God loves ME. He wants me to do good works, and he will continue to perform miracles in my life, too.
EMOTIONALLY SATISFYING AND ENCOURAGING.......2004-05-13
NOT ONLY DID I READ ABOUT THE MIRACLES ING JOHN'S LIFE, BUT IT MADE ME REALIZE THAT I TOO HAVE HAD MIRACLES. THIS BOOK IS REWARDING AND ENCOURAGING TO BE THE HANDS AND FEET OF JESUS DON'T BE A TALKER BE A DOER .
No one should be without this book.......2004-05-10
Simply the most inspiring work I've read in years. If your life lacks purpose, it won't by the time you finish this book. I have never heard God defined so intimately or so clearly as is presented here. I am not a religious person, yet this book never made me feel preached at. Rather, I have sensed the warmth and compassion of a loving God who's mission is to fill the world with his love. An incurable skeptic, I never knew one book could change my whole perspective about God so much. Now I can see that his miracles have been all around me all my life.

What the Bible says about angels and how they affect our lives. True stories of protection by angels in times of trouble and crisis.
Customer Reviews:
Intriguing.......2000-06-01
You get a sense of awe when you read about encounters where the natural meets the supernatural, but this is even more true when you know that the encounters are real, and that they are being retold to us by real live brothers and sisters in the faith.
These short stories will inspire you and move you. They will make you sit back in amazement at the incredible measures God employs to providentially take care of his flock. The stories are so intriguing that you will not want to put the book away until you have finished reading the whole thing.
For many years, this book was one of my favorite "devotionals" and it is still here today (a testimony to its value) to touch a whole new generation of believers. I recommend it.
A Powerful Book That Everyone Should Read.......1999-12-21
I got "When Angels Appear" for my mom because she collects angels. When I got home, I started paging through and ended up sitting on my couch all night with this book. It made me cry, smile, and sent shivers down my spine because the stories are so powerful. The book is made up of short stories that tell true stories of people who have had real encounters with angels. The perfect gift for the Christmas season, for anyone who collects angels, for anyone grieving, actually it's perfect for anyone. It's short enough that you could read it in one afternoon and will stay with you the rest of your life. I highly recommend Hope MacDonald's "When Angels Appear."
Up lifting, Encouraging, even the tough guys will use kleenx.......1997-10-10
The author brings out the promise and truth God has given to all of us. Some possible reasons why some things happen and some that don't. Why that little voice in the back of our mind had us do this or check that with positive results. This book may help to put some things in perspective!

Hope and inspiration for all situations........2005-11-10
Someone gave me a copy of this book years ago when I was going through tough times. Though details of my situation were in no way similar to the author's, I could relate to the fears and spiritual/emotional struggles she faced. Her story of hope and spiritual strength helped me to face and then conquer my own fears. I have since given several copies of this book to other friends facing their own life struggles, and have received much positive feedback. Highly recommended.
Special Education teacher liked it!.......2005-09-28
I loved this book by Pam Vredevelt so much that I am reading it a second time. It is so encouraging because it gives the perspective of a parent in clear and heartfelt wording. I have many "Nathan's" in my classroom whose parents have surely felt some of the same grief and joy expressed by Pam. I applaud her for writing such an emotionally open and inspiring book becuase it has given me new perspective into what the parents of my students continually deal with.
Angel Behind Rocking Chair.......2003-08-28
Anyone who has faced disappointment, death or any kind of tragedy this book is for you. It is filled with hope. I will give this book as gifts to many of my friends and family. I hope others will treasurer it as much as I have.
Angel Behind the Rocking Chair.......2001-04-20
I am the mother of a child with Down Syndrome. My neighbor gave me this book and it was at a time when I most needed it. Sometimes raising a child with a disability can be challenging and this gave me hope. I sent it to two other people who could also use the same hope at a difficult time. It is inspiring to know that these children are not alone. I learned that from this book and it helps us as we go on this journey. Thank you Pam Vredevelt!
Silver linings can be found in every situation........1999-09-28
Pam Vredevelt writes from a Christian point of view. She is a wife of a man in the ministry, a woman who gives talks, and a mother of three. Their third child was born with down syndrone. Pam went through a period of depression. Slowly, she began to realize that there is beauty in having a "special needs" child. The messages of hope throughout this book make it an appropriate book to give to any friend who is going through a difficult time. (ie cancer, divorce, etc.) I received mine as a gift, and have dog eared pages to refer back to.
