A Must-Have for Boating in the Sea of Abaco.......2006-12-30
An indispensible guide to plan your trip to the Sea of Abaco. Great Charts, Directions, Suggestions. You name it, it's got it. Although, I am geographically-challenged, I had no problem trolling the waters of the Sea of Abaco for a week thanks to the Abaco Guide.
Stephen P Has Been There and Done It.......2001-10-26
I have cruised the Bahamas aboard all kinds of small boats for over 30 years, and I wouldn't go without Stephen P's books. There have been many Bahamas cruising guides written but many fall far short of the complete story.
Stephen P. has spent many years in the Bahamas. His guide info is virtually faultless. His charts are the best and amazingly accurate. This is not always the case with other guides. His stories and "local knowlege" is historic. He spends countless hundreds of hours on sight to obtain the information needed to produce a really good guide. He is an active ham radio operator so you can talk to him anytime and discuss his works.
I guess it's obvious that I love the Guide. Stephen Crow K4CPX

Great BOOK !!!.......2007-04-29
If you want to know more about architecture in the Caribbean, you have to read this book!
Caribbean Elegance.......2007-04-11
Through his work at la Marina, Casa de Campo, Gian Franco Fini captures the essence of refined architecture with a perfect air of Caribbean elegance.
A place to visit before you dies........2007-04-10
This is a book about one of those magical places that once you get there you don't want to leave. It's in the path of boats coming from Miami to the West Indies and is the place to see in the Caribbean before you die. Casa de Campo is the Caribbean most complete resort by far where any possible hobby in the world could practiced at world renowned conditions -besides skiing, except if you change it for water-sky-. The book about the Casa de Campo's Marina is definitely a 5 start in class, quality and content. This is the real thing in Caribbean Elegance and Luxury where you'll be able to find some of the most exclusive houses in the region.
The Best Keep Secret in the Caribbean unveils........2007-03-02
This is the only book available about Marinas from an architectural standpoint. Blueprints, sketches and more than 300 full-color pictures are a never ending source for one of the most luxurious approach to Caribbean Architecture. It's about the renowned Marina at Casa de Campo, La Romana, Dominican Republic and is a must for anyone willing see from the inside out as many options as possible to recreate a tropical paradise despite if it's and apartment or a houses under 2,000 sqf or a masterpiece above 20,000 sqf.
In contrast with W.R. Blain's book for "Marina Developments" -That is an excellent and maybe the only book about Marinas from a structural standpoint- this one is an architectural approach to Marinas and all the elements around it such as Yacht Club, Apartments, Houses, Restaurants and all related services. It's full of details and references in a text that is catchy and easy to read. My only concern was that I thought it was pricy in the first place despite that it was printed and bounded in Italy, but Blain's book is above the $250 and this one is more related to interior design and architecture so it's worth 5 out 5 starts.

Customer Reviews:
Stephen P's First Guide.......2001-10-26
I have been cruising the Bahamas for over 30 years. For all these long times there was just one cruising guide available. And it was quite limited in scope. The along came Stephen Pavlidis. He has singlehandedly upgraded the quality and safety of Bahamas cruising . His Exumas Cruising Guide is the most complete information you can get for that area. I wouldn't think of cruising the Exumas without it. Stephen Crow, K4CPX
Don't leave home without it.......2000-07-29
I have cruised the Exumas four winters on my Jeanneau 41. I wouldn't think of doing it without Steven's wonderful book. He includes, for example, many chartlets not to be found in any other guide. Hence, I was able to find anchorages not well known (and which had, as a result, more lobster!).
Don't even think of visiting the Exumas without this book (or any other area included in his other guidebooks without its associated book).
Essential and Comprehensive.......1998-04-16
I found the book to be the Bible for getting in and around the Exuma Cays. More importantly, the book nicely deals with the history, geography, flora and fauna of the cays. There is no way that a person should consider sailing, motoring or paddling into the Exumas without this book in hand. Too bad it was not printed on waterproof paper and bound with stainless steel staples. If your headed for the Exumas be sure to read and bring a copy along. It might also help to secure it in a large zip lock plastic bag.

Customer Reviews:
Blah..........2007-07-22
It was alright, I only read it, because all of my friends were reading it, but it's WAY too predictable.
Great Chick Lit for Teens.......2007-05-26
18-year-old Lindsey's mom and her rich boyfriend have finally decided to tie the knot, but it's not your traditional church wedding where everyone you know is invited and the bride is dressed in a poofy white wedding gown, they get married on a cruise ship, one that Mr. Hunt (aka mom's rich boyfriend) owns. Lindsey's a shy, to herself kind of person, so she is skeptical that the cruise would be as amazing as her mom had been saying it would be. But Lindseydecids that she would have to try to make the most of it and made one of her infamous lists about all the things to do in order to have a great time. Through-out this whirlwind of a story Lindsey ends up having a blast, making new friends, finding true love, and even gets to know herself better.
I thoroughly enjoyed Caribbean Cruising, it's a great summer read that keeps you hooked til the end. Rachel Hawthorne at her best. You get to know and love the characters, and if you don't have the urge to hop on a cruise ship and live the good life like Lindsey, than there's something wrong with you! If you're not into the cute, light, predictible stuff than this probably isn't for you, but for all you chick-lit lovers out there, this is a must read that I highly recommend!
NOT by Rachel Hawthorne. Read copyright notice........2007-04-10
I am generally a big fan of Rachel Hawthorne. However, this book does not thrill me. Lindsay is not only predictable, but clearly lacks all common sense (who wants a fling with someone "special" anyway? A fling is a fling. Either you want special, or you want a fling. Who seriously expects to find both, and in only ten days?). Brooke is annoying, and hanging out with her for so long only stresses that Lindsay lacks common sense. Ryan, also predictable.
The grammar and wording is also odd at places; this author doesn't seem to like commas. It's like this book is written by a completely different person. Which brings me to another point - Who is Jan Nowasky anyway, it says by Rachel Hawthorne on the cover, but copyright belongs to a different person. Other books I've read, copyright belongs to Hawthorne.
I recommend Hawthorne's other books, like "Island Girls and Boys" "Thrill Ride" or "Love on the Lifts" but don't waste your time with this one.
an okay book.......2007-01-30
I read this book after i read Love on the Lifts. And that was a hard book to top. So this book might have been more appealing to me if i had read it first. It's my least favorite Rachel Hawthorne book. But I love all of them. Overall its an okay, easy-read, book.
a FABULOUS summer read!!!!.......2006-08-22
Wow!! This story is better than the average summer teen romance novel, because it makes you feel as though you are on an amazing carribean cruise, and I don't know many people that wouldn't love to be on a cruise, especially this one. There is hot romance, love quests, flirting, dancing, partying, swimming, hiking, parasailing, weddings, pools, clubs, boys, spas, room service. Gosh, the list goes on!!!Get this book, and enjoy your couple days in paradise!
Book Description
One of the greatest engineering feats ever, the Panama Canal is becoming one of the world's most popular cruise itineraries. Ports of call span the Caribbean and the Mexican Riviera, but the highlight of the cruise is the eight-hour transit of the Canal in which six massive locks raise and lower the ship 85 feet. Read about the monumental construction of the Canal as well as the history, culture, flora and fauna of this tropical region. Detail provided on popular ports, from Florida to California. Over 400 maps and photos most in color. Includes giant color fold out map of Panama Canal
Customer Reviews:
Very interesting, better than the tour guide.......2007-08-28
Our Holland America transit of the Panama Canal in May '07 included a veteran tour guide talking on the ships announcement systems. His description was very poor and the facts were just wrong. I knew that because I had read this book.
I recommend you buy and read this book before making your transit.
Great Guide for upcoming partial transit of canal.......2007-05-28
This will be packed and going on my upcoming cruise. It has not only the historical, cultural, political perspectives on the canal, but has all the Central America, Mexico, South America ports where you stop during the cruise. Wonderful maps, pictures, and discussions about the surrounding areas.
I am enjoying studying it each night in prepartion for our cruise.
Well write and easy to pack. This author did a tremendous job with this guide. I would definitely buy other guides from Ms. Vipond.

Panama Canal cruise.......2006-11-10
We enjoyed the book that helped us understand whst had happened in order for the canal to be completed. It is always handy to preview where you are going.
One Fine Book for a Panama Canal Cruise.......2006-08-11
I recently purchased "Panama Canal by Cruise Ship" by Anne Vipond. It is superb! I am a recently-retired submariner from the U.S. Navy and was stationed at one time in the Canal Zone. I have transited the Canal twice on Navy ships and again recently as a part of a Panama Canal study program aboard the Isla Morada. I am a serious historian of the Panama Canal from before the Panama Railroad to the present. I have accumulated much information in the form of books and over 350 old postcards of the Panama Canal Zone. But I have never seen such a "meaty" yet concise history of Panama and the Canal as Ms Vipond offers. The
information presented by Ms Vipond is unusually factual and well-researched.
Misleading Title.......2006-03-22
With the title of Panama Canal By Cruise Ship I expected the book to primarily be about the Panama Canal and what you would see from the ship as well as features of the various cruise lines servicing the Canal. What I found was that the majority of the book described ports of call that your particular ship may or may not visit.

Customer Reviews:
Do Not Buy This Book!.......2007-09-11
This book is a waste of money. I was extremely disappointed in this book. Very little information. You can easily get all the information in this book off the internet. If you are too lazy to check the internet then buy Chris Doyle's Guides. With the "Cruising Guide" label I was expecting something on par with the other guides published. I can't believe this actually got published under this series.
Only phone numbers except for advertisers.......2006-10-25
Very dissappointing. The description implied you would get # of slips per marina, depth, email contact info., etc. Wrong. You only get phone numbers (unless you're interested in one of the few advertisers). If you want a phone book, this is it. If you were hoping for specific information about the various marinas, this is not your book.

Customer Reviews:
Have to buy a different guide because this one is so bad.......2005-08-19
I liked the look of this one in the shop and at a first glance it looked like it would have all the info we needed for our cruise on our sailboat through the Bahamas. We found that some topics were ridculously written about, e.g. Gulf Stream Crossing. We agree that this is an important mention but the advice was completely a no brainer. Real advice like, what to do if your'e caught in a norther in the Gulf Stream might have been useful. We also found the author to be non-chalant when talking about passages and channels. We had a terrible experience because of this, read the North West Channel LIght - we encountered 10 foot chop there! Also, the Whale Cay info is not highlighted enough. This is an extremely dangerous area that you MUST study and know before crossing here. We found much of the info for the islands innaccurate. A complete waste of money! We are now looking to purchase the Yachtsma's Guide instead.
bahamas cruising guide.......2003-10-11
I belive this book to be the most imformative book.well written.great photos.
Professial Presentation But Dangerous Information.......2000-08-02
I used this book from April to June 2000 cruising the Bahamas on our way to Panama via the Windward Passage.I found if the wind blew from the east then the book did not give information on other anchorages that one could change to E.G. White Cay Berri Islands and Stanley Cay in the Exums. In other instances the best anchorages were not even mentioned by Wilson. The books G.P.S. waypoints were dangerous wrong E.G.George Town .The lack of information on entrances from the sound to the banks E.G. The entrance to Thunder Ball Cave area .It is my belief that this book is dangerous and it is best to find another guide book.
Looks good but disappointing in use.......2000-06-14
During a cruise through the Bahamas in the spring of 2000, this guide was a great disappointment. The BA charts are woefully lacking in detail -- especially depths -- and discussions of shore sites are in many cases unduly negative. We visited a number of places about which Mr. Wilson used disparaging terms and found them delightful. Coverage of the Exumas assumes one is approaching from the banks side and gives little attention to approaches from Exuma Sound. In some places the author gets on a soapbox for environmental concerns and in other places he tacitly approves practices (such as feeding fish at snorkel sites) that are not ecologically sound. Fails to acknowledge existence of the Explorer series of charts that are by far the best for practical use in the area. In general, the "yellow pages" info is current and useful, but all things considered, there are better cruising guides for the Bahamas.
The new standard in quality cruising guides.......2000-02-11
I have several Bahamas cruising guides and this is the BEST ! I live in the Bahamas and have found things here I did not know. It is accurate, easy to read, and well written. I highly reccomend this book to anybody that is interested in cruising the Bahamas or even those interested in the Bahamas at all. A REALLY GOOD BOOK ! Head and shoulders above the rest of the Bahamian cruising guides!
