Cisco Catalyst switches, a common ingredient in many campus, metropolitan, enterprise, and service provider networks, are complex devices that require many configuration steps for proper operation. Not only are the required commands difficult to remember, but locating reference material on them also requires extensive research that is both time- consuming and difficult to complete in the field. Cisco Field Manual: Catalyst Switch Configuration is a quick and portable reference guide to the most commonly used features that can be configured on Cisco Catalyst switches.
Derived from the authors' notes about how to configure a variety of Cisco Catalyst features during the course of their preparation for the CCIE(r) exam, Cisco Field Manual: Catalyst Switch Configuration is an indispensable tool that helps you perform the most popular deployment tasks. From the first page, the authors zero in on quick facts, configuration steps, and explanations of configuration options in each Cisco Catalyst feature. The different variations of the Cisco Catalyst operating systems (COS and Cisco IOS(r) Software) are shown together for side-by-side comparison, making it easy to move from one Cisco Catalyst platform to another.
The book presents concise implementation advice for families of Cisco Catalyst features, including configuration fundamentals, Layer 2 interface configuration, Layer 3 interface configuration, VLANs and trunking, Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), Layer 3 switching, multicast, server load balancing, access control, switch management, quality of service (QoS), and voice. Additional appendixes provide you with critical details on well-known ports and addresses, specialized switch modules, VLAN extension, and a cabling guide. The quick reference format allows you to easily locate just the information you need without searching through thousands of pages of documentation, saving you time and helping you to get the devices up and running quickly and smoothly.
Whether you are looking for a handy, portable reference to more easily configure Cisco Catalyst switches in the field, or you are preparing for CCNA(r), CCNP(r), or CCIE certification, you will find Cisco Field Manual: Catalyst Switch Configuration to be an essential resource that will save you hours of research time.

beginners level.......2006-03-05
I'm not writing this to discredit the book. I think it is very well done. I just think it should be made clear that this is a beginners level book. There is a lot of emphasis placed on translating cat os into native. There are also numerous examples of how to configure various topologies. I think it is very well done. However, anybody who can read and use the univercd, will have a wealth of knowledge, far beyond what can be contained in this book, within a few mouse clicks.
If you are familiar with only one of these operating systems and require knowledge of the other. This is a good buy. I always had trouble trying to interpret the logic used the catos. But, concerning gaining a deeper understanding of switching, I didn't get anything from this one.
A good book at showing Cat configs.......2006-02-03
CiscoPress's "Cisco Field Manual: Catalyst Switch Configuration" by Hucaby and McQuerry is a very strong attempt at documenting the configuration implementations of Cisco switches. Any Cisco Switching book is going to need to make a decision as soon as the first page - and that is how best to document the two separate and totally different versions of Cisco Catalyst operating systems - COS and OS. This book takes a different tact - and one that I think works very well. Instead of splitting up the two OS domains and describing each in their own respective sections - the authors have decided to show how to implement both types of commands at the same time. This little difference is profound in the way it helps demonstrate the use of each command and eliminates redundancy found in other all-in-one switching books.
It is important to note that this is not a Switching-101 book. You definitely need a decent understanding of the various subjects - Spanning-Tree Protocol (STP), Virtual-Trunking Protocol (VTP), etc... The book does a good job at discussing the different implementations of Vlans and Trunking (Chapter 6).
One reassuring item to note is that I did not find any typos in the book. I have used this book while studying for my CCIE R&S lab (I think a lot of CCIE candidates forget that the `S' in R&S stands for Switching). I have also used this book for real-world implantations. I feel the utilitarian value of this book is much higher than Hucaby and McQuerry's similar book on Router configuration.
I give this book 4 pings out of 5:
!!!.!
Excellent Reference for Everyday Switch Administrators.......2003-11-09
I am a network engineer and use the Catalyst 2900, 2950, 3500 and the 4000's on a daily basis. We do a lot of VLAN configurations, trunking using 801.q, static port access, along with other various switch configs. This book has been indispensable for my daily routines. There has not once been an instant where I couldn't find the answer to what I was trying to accomplish when configuring a Cisco Catalyst Switch. This also gives you the commands for COS and IOS and also tells you which switch supports what and which switch doesn't (example: the Catalyst 2950 supports 801.q by default, where others support ISL by default). I highly recommend this book for all your switching administrative needs.
A must for Engineers.......2003-04-14
The author has put together a very clear and concise book which is essential for engineers. Whether using it as a reference or to read it cover to cover it is well worth the purchase. A+
Great Book!.......2002-11-24
This book covers 2900 Series up to 6000 Series Catalyst Switches including Catlayst 3500XL and 2900MXL Series. This book is not for CCNA wannabe's, cause it doesn't include Catalyst 1900 Series. Besides, you should know Cisco Switching before attempting to read this book. This book is more help on your day to day Cisco Catalyst administration job.
This book beats Cisco LAN Switching (CCIE Professional Development). It covers those topics that Cisco LAN Switching lacks - from Switch Functionality, SE Configuration, creating VLANs & Trunking, STP, Multilayer Switching, to QOS. More examples than LAN Switching.
This book, together with the Cisco Routers for IP Routing Little Black Book (by: Innokenty Rudenko) and Remote Access for Cisco Networks (by: William Burton and Bill Burton), your daily administration of Cisco devices will be easy as you have never imagined. Of course you need at least a CCNA Advanced Level or a CCNP level to use these three books.
I'm a CCNP/CCDA supporting Internet Data Centre / Internet Service Provider Core Routers/Distribution Switches/Access Switches and I found that this book is valuable to my daily administration tasks. I highly recommend this book for Cisco Catalyst administrators.

Whether you are the one who leaves or the one who is left, divorce is a painful, wrenching experience, explains author Debbie Ford. Since Ford is comfortable dwelling in the shadow side of life, it's not surprising that she believes that the excruciating pain of divorce can lead to enormous spiritual growth. "Emotional turmoil can be a powerful catalyst to reconnect us with our divine nature," she writes. "It propels us into a journey of self discovery and urges us to learn how to love and accept our entire being." Herein lies the promise of a "spiritual divorce."
Because Ford is a highly effective workshop leader, she has a knack for breaking down spiritual matters into manageable bites. She is also willing to share the truth of her own painful divorce, allowing readers to see her initial pain and consuming resentments. Ford divides her book into seven laws, beginning with the "The Law of Acceptance," where readers are asked to imagine a benevolent divine order at play rather than taking a blaming stance. In the section titled "The Law of Responsibility," Ford encourages readers to gently begin the process of taking responsibility for their own darkest qualities. This is the thrust of Ford's highly respected shadow work--illuminating the dark side so we can stand in divine light. Each section ends with "Healing Action Steps," where Ford suggests specific exercises or meditations. For example, in the final chapter Ford asks readers to make a new "divorce vow" that is a lifelong commitment to one's highest self. --Gail Hudson

Practical and Enlightening.......2007-08-08
I recently experienced betrayal in my life and was faced with divorce. This book helped me to survive the initial pain and begin to build a friendship with my wife. I was able to take the practical and spiritual advice of Debbie Ford and apply it to every part of my life and current situation. I dont know what I would have done without this book. It is a gift that I use in my daily life and also began using it with clients that I see in my psychotherapy practice. I plan on recommending this book to all I come into contact facing a divorce. It will make a difference in many live especially where children are involved. the days of drawn out legal battles concerning divorce and custody are over. It is now time to do these things in a mature and enlightened way and Debbie Ford's book is our blue print for this major paradigm shift. Highly recommended to any seperating or divorcing couples.
Freedom from my divorce story!!!.......2007-05-31
How sick and tired I was of telling everyone in my life the sad tale of my divorce. "My husband never came through for me, he wasn't who I thought he was, he let me down..." bla, bla, bla.... Until I read this book and came in contact with Debbie Ford's work, I thought I had no other choice but to drag my victim story around with me. How wrong I was!
Little did I know that hidden within my rage about how my husband never came through for me was the realization that I know how to take care of myself! When I let go of the disappointment that he never provided financially for our family I suddenly unleashed my own earning potential (after I stopped waiting for him to do it!). Honestly, nothing has made such a change in my life - both my inner world and my outer world -- as the process outlined in this book.
If you are a parent and are going through or have gone through a divorce, I would also highly recommend Ford's audio program called The Essentials of Extraordinary Parenting - A Self-Guided Coaching Program.
life changing .......2007-04-08
This book is simply a great way to approach life even if you have never been married and divorced. It is helpful to deal with any kind of loss weather it be from a death or break up. It gives real world examples and useful tools to approach realationships and just learning more about ones self . I highly recommend this book to anyone thinking about marriage or is in a serious relationship
Might as well buy several copies--you'll need them........2007-03-20
I am not going through a divorce, but like everyone else, I have had relationships that didn't work out the way I hoped. A few friends are going through tough times so I read this book to have an understanding of what they are going through and WOW, was I in for a surprise! This book had so much to say to me on ways I can work on myself so that I can have a better marriage and better relationships with kids, friends, co-workers! If both partners care enough early on to follow her wisdom and guidelines, I think you could prevent divorce with this book.
I could not put this book down. As a Christian, I may be talking to a different God than Debbie is, but that didn't slow me down one bit--she has a way with words that cuts through murky, repetetive thoughts and forces you to take responsibility for whatever your situation is in life. I I have read a LOT of self help books, but this one says things in a very practical, non-judgmental way. I can now look at my friends going through divorce, point this book out to them and be happy that there is a bright light at the end of their tunnel. And I believed that before, but I didn't know how to help them believe it until I found this book. Many thanks to you, Debbie.
This is a "must read".......2007-02-15
This book was recommended to me as I just recnetly ended a 4 1/2 year relationship. At first I thought "why am I reading this book?" I'm happy about my decision and I'm not hateful towards my ex. I stuck with it though and am now very glad I did. I found the contents of this book to be so helpful that I just purchased five more copies to give to people I know. This is a book I want to keep so I can refer to it often. Although it is an "easy read" I would suggest only reading a chapter/section at a time in order to give yourself time to digest the material. This is just simply a "good book" - even if you are not going through a divorce. Truly a "must read" - for anyone.

Book Description
Improving the effectiveness of catalysts is the best way to ensure cleaner, more efficient industrial processes for a wide range of applications. Catalyst Preparation: Science and Engineering explores the optimization of catalytic materials through traditional and novel methods of catalyst preparation, characterization, and monitoring on laboratory and industrial scales. The book presents many key principles of heterogeneous catalyst preparation and the methods used to synthesize a catalyst with a particular composition and morphology. The first chapters examine the synthesis of bulk materials including amorphous and mesoporous oxide supports, heteropolyacids, and colloidal metals. Subsequent chapters focus on the syntheses of heterogeneous nanoscale materials, including those based on metal complex-substrate interactions and those using non-interacting precursors via viscous drying. The final chapters concentrate on pretreatment, drying, and finishing effects before concluding with a prognosis on future applications involving catalyst preparation and the technological advances necessary for continued progress. An ideal companion for scientists exploring the preparation of application-specific catalysts based on desired catalytic properties, Catalyst Preparation: Science and Engineering provides a balanced overview of important synthesis parameters to consider for good catalyst design.

This book does not till you how to prepare catalysts, it rather shows the science and engineering of preparation methods. It only tills you the methods of preparation used.

perfect 10.......2007-09-16
great buisness and fast got exactly what i needed and right when i needed the book the most
I agree with the above .........2006-11-04
I agree with the above review. I found explanation of structure to be fairly good, however, the stories were as described. It does seem politically motivated. Homosexuality & Religion, A poor attempt at Spirituality, Racism (actually a good piece by W.E.B. DuBois) etc. I would stick to the Bedford Guide and leave Philosophy, Theology and Sociology to their respective studies. In addition, it does not have Turabian styles included in this manual this you will have to purchase separately.
Odd collection of essays........2006-01-14
Most of these essays are very run-of-the-mill rants about racism, sexism, and plastic surgery. There are a few gems like Orwell's "The Hanging" (a subtle piece that exposes the injustices of capital punishment), and "Lost at C" by Jean Shepard. There are also some plain stupid ones like "The Travels of an Onion" and "Neat People versus Sloppy People" which are simply unnecessary.
I see the need for colleges to teach students about racial inequalities and cultural differences, but bad writing is unforgivable.

Book Description
Where will we look when we are afraid? How do we find strength? In what can we place our trust? According to Tibetan Buddhism, there are four noble aspirations known as "The Four Great Catalysts of Awakening" that we can cultivate for strength and openness in any situation. From Fear to Fearlessness brings listeners into the company of the beloved teacher Pema Chodron to discover and cultivate these four "immeasurables"maitri (loving-kindness), compassion, joy, and equanimity. They are our greatest antidote to fear, teaches Ani Pema. By practicing them, we begin to experience a supreme steadfastness and peace independent of conditions. In this moving teaching session with the bestselling author of When Things Fall Apart, listeners will learn about: honestya conduit to the parts of ourselves that need kindness and love the most, self-acceptance and its effectiveness in overcoming the judging mind, and how to cultivate and nurture desires beyond materialism, and much more.

Escape from Suffering.......2007-01-12
Pema Chodron presents meditation techniques that require very little experience with meditation and are easily accessible to anyone who wants to learn to transform pain into love.
In a world filled with suffering, it can at times be overwhelming to balance your emotions so you can affect change. By understanding our own fears, we can then address some of the root causes of our unhappiness. This CD introduces some intriguing concepts and solutions and presents the following topics for discussion:
Mindfulness and Maitri
What is the root cause of happiness and suffering?
Unlimited joy
Compassion
The Enemies of Compassion
Introduction to the Practice of Compassion
A guided Maitri session is included on both CDs. I love how Pema Chodron honors her teachers by giving credit where credit is due. She explains what she was taught and effectively translates ancient teachings and stories into methods for modern application.
With warmth and wisdom Pema Chodron shows the way to a more flexible, open life filled with love and compassion. She says that often we look for strength in what weakens us. An intriguing concept!
Through mindfulness and meditation practice (more like a visualization than complete solitude and she guides you through the process), you can more attuned and receptive.
I love her idea about using words and actions to make things better, but it isn't always easy. Patience is one of the qualities you have to develop to follow these teachings and to get to a place of peace, there is suffering. Even after peace, there is some suffering, but you may be able to turn the suffering into creativity and make it an energy you use for good. It can be a very empowering moment when you start to turn negativity into healing.
You can start to use the meditation techniques immediately in daily life and they have many applications. In a fight with someone you love or even in a disagreement with a stranger - Learn how to calm the situation and take back control of your emotions.
What is the root of suffering?
What causes happiness to grow?
The answers make perfect sense, but take time to put into practice. I can highly recommend this CD set to anyone who is making meditation a part of their life. Pema Chodron is an American Buddhist nun, but her wisdom has universal appeal. This seems to be the recording from the session on DVD called: Good Medicine. I can recommend both and you may also enjoy watching the DVD to learn more about Tonglen meditation.

Pema's Voice is So Much Better Than Her Books.......2007-01-03
I like Pema's books because they are full of simple, no nonsense advice for daily living, but when I hear her voice which was how I was initially introduced to her on PBS t.v. something magical takes place for me. She has so much compassion and humor and a deep empathy for the human condition that comes across in a very embracing way when she speaks. Her words resonate for me and every time I replay one of her CDs I hear something new or I hear an interpretation I hadn't heard the last time. You'd think a CD would grow old but hers don't, for me. Maybe it's that I'm a 52 yr. old single career mom with a love of nature and a drive to find balance in my world that draws me to her. Whether she's speaking about getting along with coworkers or on how to handle depression, I'm right there soaking up her wisdom and kindness. Learning to love myself has been a focus of mine for a few years and her teachings are instrumental on my path...I always find a new teacher JUST when the timing is perfect. Many of my friends have started listening to her as well.
easy listening.......2006-11-04
Pema Chodron has a wonderful voice and way of "telling".
It is easy to follow her through this journey from fear to fearlessness.
She brings tremendous concepts back to the basic realities of life.
American Buddhist Nun with practical advice .......2005-01-30
This 2-cassette set reflects the author's usual warmth, humor, kindliness, and down-to-earth approach to improving one's life through Buddhist means. This set focuses on the 4 Immeasurables or limitless qualities: Maitri (loving-kindness), compassion, joy, and equanimity. She points out where her master, Trungpa Rinpoche digressed from the literal meanings of these four in practice as well as certain modifications suggested by the great 14th century master, Longchenpa (Longchen Rabjam). For example, the latter suggested meditating upon equanimity to stabilize prior to sending out loving kindness etc. Embedded in the technique is to send these 4 out consecutively, but within each "sending" to first apply it to someone you care about, then a neutral, then someone you mildly dislike (building up to stronger feelings), and finally to everyone. For example, compassion is the wish that everyone be free of suffering and the cause of suffering. Trungpa Rinpoche's modifications include: joy being the appreciation of peoples' basic goodness. Ani Chödrön's (she is a Buddhist nun, thus the title Ani) wonderful turns of phrase include: "We look for strength in what weakens us," "We've gotten really good at making matters worse," and seeking happiness without a hangover. My only problem with this set is that it's too short! Also, since it doesn't include the practice of Tonglen and some of her other main teachings, I'd recommend the 6-tape "Awakening Compassion" or "Noble Heart" set over this one. It includes virtually all of this one plus much more-but then it's longer and costs more. If you haven't had the great uplifting joy of experiencing Pema Chödrön's tapes, this would be a fine one to start with. She's also written a number of fine books (e.g. "Places that Scare You") and has a terrific video entitled, "Good Medicine."
This is a wonderful audio lesson.......2005-01-16
P. Chodron is a gentle, wise teacher with a profound sense of humor. I listen to these cd's over and over w/o ever tiring of them. I have downloaded them into my iPod so they are mobile, I like them that much! Her work is a strong reminder to breathe. Not to mention the fact that her voice is so lovable.
Book Description
