This book was very helpful for preparing for my exam........2007-10-05
I thought this book was very informative and helpful in preparing me for the CPC Exam.I liked the Cd-Rom which was included because that helped me monitor my own progress in reference to what i learned from the material in the book and also if I could complete the exam in the time allotted for me to take it.I would recommend future exam books like these to others who may be taking the same exam in the future.
GREAT GREAT GREAT!.......2007-06-10
THe content is thorough and well presented. Includes your medical terminology and anatomy with the prospective system being taught within each chapter! Chapter quizes and op reports are terrific. GREAT tool for preparing to take the CPC exam!
Excellent book for coding students.......2007-05-01
This book helped me a great deal to study for my final in the PMCC course. I would reccomend in highly.
Great practice.......2007-03-14
This book truly helped me prepare for the AAPC National exam. The book provides you with 2 different practice exams that are almost equivalent to the questions on the actual exam. Time is a factor when you are actually taking the exam. You are provided 5 hours for 150 questions, and although that sounds like alot of time, it really is not. As this book comes with a CD that times you while taking the practice tests, I feel that it helped me get a better feel of how much time is really required to complete the exam. I passed the exam that I took in Feb 07 and I honestly feel that this book contributed to my passing.
cpc coding exam review 2007.......2007-01-24
I am very pleased with the book. I think it will help me with my certification for the CPC
Book Description
This practical approach to training students for a career in medical coding begins with an introduction to Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), followed by in-depth explanations of the sections found in the CPT manual. Several chapters, organized to follow the CPT codes by body system, introduce various procedures and demonstrate how to code each one. Practice exercises following each step of information and at the end of each chapter reinforce important concepts and allow users to check their comprehension. Unit II covers the International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD 9-CM), and Unit III offers information about third-party reimbursement. Appendices provide the official ICD-9-CM guidelines for coding and reporting, answers to the in-text exercises, the documentation guidelines for E/M services, a quick guide to HIPAA, and Alpha II iCoder exercises.

This book is for students with an instructor.......2007-06-19
This book is great on information and the way they explain everything. The problem is there is no answer keys on the chapter review questions. This is hard if you are doing this as a self study. You have no way of checking your answers. I had to enroll through evolve's on line self study program to get the answers. The cost was $39.95. This on line self study is well worth the money. They ask questions that is not in the book. There is a workbook that goes with this book. The workbook is good as far as giving you practice exercises. The problem is you only get answers on the odd number questions. You have no idea if the even number questions are right.
Book Description
An exciting new series of study guides that lets each student design a course of study pitched to his or her individual needs and learning style
Each year, more than one million U.S. high school students take one or more advanced placement (AP) exams, and, according to official projections, that number will continue to rise in the years ahead. That is because AP exams confer important benefits on those who do well on them. High AP scores are indispensable to gaining admission to most elite colleges. They provide students with a competitive edge when competing for grants and scholarships. And they allow students to bypass required university survey courses, saving on skyrocketing tuition fees.
Designed to coincide perfectly with the most current
AP exams, Five Steps to a 5 on the Advanced Placement Examinations guides contain several advanced features that set them above all competitors. Each guide is structured around an ingenious Five-Step Plan. The first step is to develop a study plan, the second builds knowledge, the third and fourth hone test-taking skills and strategies, and the fifth fosters the confidence students need to ace the tests. This flexible study tool is also tailored to three types of students. For the more structured student there is a "Month-by-Month" approach that follows the school year and a "Calendar Countdown" approach that begins with the new year. For students who leave studying to the last minute "Basic Training" covers the basics in just four weeks.
Other outstanding features include:
- Sample tests that closely simulate real exams
- Review material based on the contents of the most recent tests
- Icons highlighting important facts, vocabulary, and frequently-asked questions
- Boxed quotes offering advice from students who have aced the exams and from AP teachers and college professors
- Websites and links to valuable online test resources, along with author e-mail addresses for students with follow-up questions
- Authors who are either AP course instructors or exam developers

Do not Get.......2007-06-06
I cannot express my deep dissatifaction for this book. I am expected to take this AP test in May and to review from this book is a joke. There were gramatical errors, as well as a few spelling errors. I dont even know if i could use the info given in this book to write an essay on the ap test considering the errors in there. Take something everyone knows like Barons eddition or princeton review. This book is a waste.
I liked using the book.......2006-07-14
Yes, there were typos here and there but overall the information the book provided was great. It helps you analyze information so it doesn't review almost every event in US history, it gives you a nice overview of the most important events that will most likely be used when writing the DBQ or free-responses. The questions at the end of each chapter were good to use because they seemed as if they were extracted from a previous AP exam. I believe that this is a good review book for incoming AP students. I received my score the other day and I did get a 5 so I believe the book helped my score along with my hard efforts in class.
Typos abounded. .......2006-05-05
I didn't like this book at all. The typos kept throwing my mind off--they needed a proofreader DREADFULLY.
The whole book was set up in a very disorganized, unhelpful, skipping-over-things way that threw my mind. It was like reading someone's lecture notes--useful in its way, but not comprehensive.
And the writing was very 8th grade. Repetitive sentence structure, un-professional-sounding, and that distracted me too.
Good for review, not for learning...too many typos.......2006-05-03
This book is excellent for review. It brings up the major topics, and does a good job at putting them in context. The practice tests are excellent, and the questions at the end of the chapters are good too. It does a good job with its section at the end of each chapter that says "To get a 5, you should be able to discuss..." It doesn't go into enough detail if you don't already know the material, though. Also, the book is filled with typos.
What I've done is used this along with the Kaplan SAT History book. The Kaplan SAT, even more than their AP book, points out the details in a condensed form, where this book gives a broader overview. I haven't yet taken the exam, but I had my final exam yesterday, which was the 1996 AP exam, and I got a 5 on that.
EDIT: I have since taken both the SAT US History and the AP US History exams, I got an 800 and a 5 respectively. Most of this is due to having an excellent teacher, but it seems that the Kaplan SAT-5 steps to a 5 AP combination certainly didn't hurt.
apush student.......2006-01-20
although this book is quite useful, it should definitly as the other reviews stated, NOT be used alone. i personally found the glossary to be inadequite in that only MAJOR key terms were definied while less major but still significant terms were left out. overall though it is an excellent book to be used in conjunction with another study book as some less significant topics are left out in this book. the book has clear concise and detailed chapter summaries.

CCS CODING EXAM REVIEW - CERTIFICATION STEP.......2007-09-18
Even though I have not yet taken the exam, I have found the book to be an excellent resource before the exam, and will continue to use the book as a reference book after I take the exam. Very user friendly.
CSS Exam Prep.......2007-07-30
The book is very complete as information with many details that one would need refreshing every so often. Each chapter has a test, a very good test I can say. The downfall is the CD; there is no feed back to your answers, only the percentage you achieved. That may not be enough for someone who is trying to learn. We do learn from our mistakes, so no feed back, how would one know what did wrong?
The CD is the downfall for this book.
do not buy this book.......2007-05-07
I bought three CCS review guides to prepare for the CCS exam. This one was NO help whatsoever. I had been studying with my other two books (AHIMA's and Thompson's) and picked this one up the weekend before the test. I liked that it had CCS-like exams to take on a CD. I was studying with a friend of mine so we both decided to take the pre-test. This was the day before we took the exam. I scored -103, yes negative 103 and she scored 30, meaning we both flunked. We were so discouraged. so threw that book aside and called it a day. The CD and the book gave us no hint as to what we did wrong with the test, what we needed to study further. No help whatsoever.
We both took the CCS the next day and passed with flying colors. If we had let this book discourage us we would not now be both CCS certified.
If I could give it no stars I would

Works as advertised - Great help.......2007-09-14
Well written from the standpoint that it gradually builds in more complexity. Given that there's a good bit going on in praying the LOTH, this method really helps. I see some are really put off by the campy humor. I bought the book to learn the LOTH, so I just blow past that stuff. Water off a duck's back. No impedance to learning. I'm not sure how I was going to learn the LOTH without this book. A few things could have been helped with more coverage on them, such as memorials, but I got additional help from the Catholic Answers forum on liturgy. I highly recommend this book.
THE book to purchase for learning the Divine Office!.......2007-04-21
This book IS wonderful and a great purchase! And I had no problem obtaining it from Amazon. I do NOT understand the FEW Negative Nancies who did not like this book! Two reviewers seemed to have big-time problems with the ribbons...Look, if you have difficulties with putting ribbons in books, you might have bigger concerns than learning the Divine Office! Some reviewers also seemed to have an issue with Nugent's tone and/or humor. I found her delightfully refreshing, and tastefully sweet and appropriate- especially when one considers the context. She makes learning a very serious subject like the Divine Office more light-hearted and fun. I mean really, what did these guys want or expect? The author to be a combination of Bill Cosby and Aristotle? An author like that would detract from the subject matter- lighten up!
Before I found out about "The Divine Office for D.O.D.O.S," I had purchased another guide to praying the Divine Office that Amazon also sells, entitled "Lord, Open My Lips." It is more concise than "The Divine Office for D.O.D.O.S," but NOT necessarily more clear. I thought the author to "Lord, Open My Lips" was competent, but had the personality of a plate. Consequently, I quickly grew bored with "Lord, Open My Lips," and as a result, did not learn to pray the Divine Office. With "The Divine Office for D.O.D.O.S," I learned to pray the Divine Office. Objective achieved. I agree with all the compliments and positive comments about this book which is given in the editorial review and customer reviews. Enjoy, and God Bless!
Serious about learning the Divine Office? Must read this Book.......2006-11-04
Dear Readers,
The Divine Office, next to the Divine Liturgy, is the greatest prayer of the Church. It behooves all Catholics to learn to pray this Divine Office, in whole or in part. Many wish to pray the Office, but find it difficult to navigate. There is Hope! This book takes one step by step to master the format and lean to pray the Divine Office privatily or in a group setting.
A MUST!
Very helpful guide .......2006-10-30
I tried to pray the Liturgy of the Hours for months and even had others try to help me with it. I just could not understand the process. This book mapped out in very easy steps how to pray the Divine Office, even if you are a Dodo. It was an invaluable tool and now I pray it everyday!

Not that great...........2007-05-27
I was somewhat disappointed with this book. I thought that it would have CPT exercises at the end of each section, but it didn't. All this book consists of is a brief overview of CPT codes. It also has a section on anatomy, terminology, and pathophysiology (these sections do have have brief exercises with answers). Carol Buck's Step by Step book is much better. There is also a pre-test at the end of book and a post test on a cd (that is included).

Not the BEST but good enough.......2007-07-15
To be honest, I didn't use this book until two days before the AP test. I did well in class and read every single page of the 1150 page textbook. I was already using the 5 steps to a 5 AP for Biology so I decided to get it for World history. But I must say, I didn't like the organization of the information and felt like it was jumping around a lot. I read the entire review book but did not take the practice tests. Yes, I got my scores back and I got a 5 on it. So.. I don't know if the review book helped me or not because I already felt like I knew all of my information. But if you feel like you're not ready, I would double up on the review book. Preferably this book and Princeton Review. The best word of advice is to pay attention in class and read your textbook.
WooHoo!!!.......2007-07-11
My AP scores arrived today, and I got a 4! Although I had a great teacher, this book helped me review the entire course in a few days. It contains excellent summaries of each of the time periods and 3 multiple choice practice tests, if you include the one in the beginning of the book, with detailed explanations of why each answer is either right or wrong. (^-^)
Clear but with lots of information.......2007-05-23
If you're tired of reading wordy textbooks and you're looking for a source with lots of information laid out in a simple format, this book may be something you'd be interested in. It hits all the important points and it really helps you see the big picture and organize the information in your mind in a better way. After each small chapter there is a quiz. After each section key comparisons are given along with a timeline. I don't think I could have handled the AP exam without this, as I just really needed to see the information presented in a new way. I definitely recommend buying this EARLY in the year so you can implement your textbook knowledge as you read this book.
Excellent Test Prep.......2006-06-01
This is probably one of the best AP review book out there if not THE best. Unfortunately I started on this book kind of at the last minute, so I had to rush through. But this book has everything you need in it to pass the exam and the information is well presented.
great!.......2006-05-04
I found out about this book only two weeks before the exam & ordered it. I didn't finish reading it until the day before the exam (wasn't studying the whole time though). It really helped me out w/ the practice tests at the end of each section and a more consise review. I took the exam today and I don't think I did way too horrible (seeing that my teacher was completely useless). I really helped me see the big picture which is a huge part of the exam.
