Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Bad Astronomy and Good Insights.......2007-01-29
PERSPECTIVE: physician with an interest in astronomy
It's interesting to look at the American educational system to see exactly how much basic astronomy and space science is not taught, or at least, not taught well. Asking the average person to explain why we have tides or why the sky is blue is bound to elicit answers that vary from the slightly off to the ridiculous. One could argue that having a grasp on these most basic of "why's" isn't needed for our daily lives to proceed - the truth is, its embarrassing how much many people not only don't know, but also don't care, about how our planet and our solar system really work... and then easily believe frankly inane "ideas" such as how Venus split off from Jupiter 3,000 years ago, or that the Apollo moon landings were a hoax.
Like Sagan and Gould before him, Phil Plait has the amazing gift of being able to easily explain potentially confusing scientific concepts with such simplicity and wit that anyone, regardless of their level of education, can understand them. His writing is easy and conversational, and this book is a joy to read. He enhances some points with a modest number of clear illustrations. Furthermore, he is very forthright about where he himself has been wrong in the past, and is more than eager to explain why - an important trait notably missing from the non-scientists whose work he discusses.
Topics covered include misconceptions concerning the earth itself (balancing eggs on the equinox), the solar system (tides, seasons, moon phases), and the galaxy (star observations, meteorites, planetary alignments), as well as non-scientific errors, both deliberate and sincere (moon landing hoax, astrology, creationism), and common astronomical fallacies in movies.
FINAL WORD: A HIGH five of five stars. Necessary for everyone (and I mean everyone) to read, and doubly so for educators from early grade school to post-graduate level.
Some Bad language in Bad Astronomy.......2006-11-14
I bought this book for my 14 year-old nephew. I wanted to preview it for my 9 year-old daughter. In flipping through I did find one expletive on page 103 (opening sentence to chapter 11), but the story is funny, so I will just black it out. I think some of the chapters would lose my daughter in comprehension. I'll wait a couple of years for her copy.
Here is an except from the final paragraph of chapter 8: "Finally, in this section we'll travel back in time and space to where it all began, the Big Bang. Something about contemplating the beginning of everything twists our already tangled minds, and descriptions of the Big Bang usually confuse the issue more than unravel it. The irony of the Big Bang, I suppose, is that it is even odder than our oddest theories could possibly suppose."
put up or shut up.......2006-08-12
Oh my!land sakes the flag moves! What does it all mean? Maybe the moon really does have an atmosphere, but we didnt find out for sure until we actually landed got out put up the flag and low and behold, a breeze made the flag flap! Does this mean that we didnt go to the moon? No what it means is that sometimes just because we have a theory about something regardless of what it is, does not mean that our theory was right to begin with. Sometimes our professionals leading the charge dont want to admit that they were wrong about something, so they just leave us to believe the original theory even if their theory turns out to be wrong. As far as the moonhoax promoters go, put up or shut up. There's an obscure piece of moon jumping footage that is hard to find, but it is out there that is from the apollo 11 moon landing. When Neil Armstrong goes to get back in the lem, he stands flat footed on the lem pad grabs the ladder with both hands, bends his knees and jumps straight up and lands on the 3rd step which is about 4 1/2 feet above the lem pad. The greatest recorded vertical jumps in the last century were only 42 an 44 inches. get out your messuring tapes right now and do a standing vertical leap and see how high you get. Now after you do that put a back pack on that weighs about 75 pounds. Now put 25 pound ankle weights on, 1 for each ankle. now your ready to try and duplicate Neil Armstrongs "1 giant leap" if you or maybe the great "AIR JORDAN" cant get as high as Neil did, "54" inches, then maybe its time to accept the fact that "YES "we did go to the moon, now GET OVER IT! OH while you still have the back pack and leg weights on, try and duplicate John Youngs "JUMP SALUTE" just the way he did it, with only just slightly bending the knees. He got about 18 or so inches off the lunar surface. If you cant duplicate these jumps or cant find a basketball player or a high jumper to get anywhere close to Neil Armstrongs "54 inch" vertical jump, thens its time to close the books on the moon hoax theory, because we did indeed go to the moon, but they found out that the moon was already occupied and the astronauts were not well received. This is why we've never gone back to the moon and thats what all the cover up is really all about. Yes there is life out there and our closest neighbors are not light years away, but are right up there on the moon not wanting any part of our violent behavior to influence their world in any way. So we were told to get off the moon and dont came back. WARD FRAZIER U.S. ARMY PROJECT M.A.R.S MINDCONTROL SURVIVOR 1984-1986 GREENSBURG INDIANA.
Great book for us non-astronomy experts.......2006-02-02
I bought this book expecting to read the usual stuff about why some people think that the moon landing was a hoax and how astrology doesnt really work (as explained on the cover). But i was suprised to learn about so many things that I actually thought really did exist in the world of astronomy. I really did think that the water spun in a different direction in australia, and that the sky was blue because thats what a lot of oxygen looks like and many other things that turned out not to be true. Many times i thought "oh what! that isnt real!?"
There is also a nice section that takes delivers a blow to the creationists and their wacko claims.
I highly reccomend this book to anyone curious about astronomy and anyone that wishes to learn about all the ailment of bad astronomy that you never knew you suffered from.
Astronomy for the masses.......2006-01-02
The average American knows more about what Julia Roberts eats for breakfast than what the Coriolis effect is, and Dr. Plait thinks that should change. I think this book should be mandatory reading for anyone remotely interested in astronomy and/or science fiction. His website is just as informative.
Book Description
A fascinating in-depth account of how NASA and the American government faked the Apollo Moon Landings of the 1960's and 70's. From the moonwalks and rover rides to the return splashdowns, every step of the way you will see how the event was staged here on earth. Unlike the other books that make allocations that the moon landings were fake, this is the only book that shows you exactly how it was done. The author's goal is to provide space enthusiasts around the globe with accurate historical reference what really happened and why the United States found it necessary to fake the moon landings.
This book also contains many high-quality original NASA photos with obvious clues proving the moon landings were faked. These images include: astronauts with tears in their spacesuit, helmets open, and animals on the moon surface.

what is with you conspiracy people ?.......2007-08-26
read some astronaut biographies, go hear some of them giving a talk about their accomplishments, watch the mission films, and learn some basic science and physics so that you dont come across so dumb. talk to the newsmen who covered the missions. you are just plain dumb.
Unbelievably worthless.......2006-12-12
Even by conspiracy-theory standards this book is patently atrocious. The prose reads like a bad term paper, much of it (as has already been said) lifted or paraphrased from web sites, and the rest a rehash of the typical anti-government rant you can find in any backwoods militia newsletter. It was allegedly researched by a gaggle of high-tech wunderkind whom its author refers to as the "whiz kids". Yet while these children ares supposedly smart enough to dispute the world's historical scholars over one of the most meticulously documented events in world history, they can't seem to find the spell-check feature on the computer.
Much of the book's copious photographic "evidence" is simply forged on the computer, and not even very skilfully forged. For example, one photo shows the lunar lander training vehicle slung under a helicopter, allegedly proving that film of it actually flying must have been faked. But the "cables" suspending the vehicle are simply perfect parallel vertical lines drawn with the paint tool. And the "whiz kids" cut-and-pasted a well-known modern helicopter type instead of one from the 1960s.
This book is an utter waste of trees and an even more utter waste of money. If you must have a conspiracy theory book on the moon landings, choose one of the others.
You can't be serious.......2006-10-07
Surely the author is giving himself some good reviews on this website. No one with a ounce of sense or at least a little understanding of photography would believe this garbage. You can go into your own backyard with your own camera and test many of his ignorant theories yourself. You will get the same results as the astronauts did on the moon (no stars in the background, curved and non-parallel shadows, light scattering, etc.) Remember this important fact: even though the sky was black on the moon, the sun was shining at the landing site. It was DAYTIME on the moon. The astronauts suits were white, the lunar lander was covered in reflective mylar. Any long exposure photo in that bright light would be completely washed out. The shutter speeds were fast. Stars, even when you are in space, are not bright enough to show up in photograhs taken in those lighting conditions. IF NASA had faked the pictures and put stars in them, every professional photograper in the world would be able to show that they were faked with the stars, not without them. So stop looking for the stars.
All the other theories are just as easily explained. If any hoax believer would take the time to read the counter arguements and explainations to this author's claims, they would see him for what he is, an idiot. Actually, I don't think he is an idiot. It's the people that believe him that I don't understand. He can't possible really believe what he is writing. I think the hoax is what he is saying to sell books.
What strikes me as the most indisputable proof that the moon landings did occur is the fact that several hundred thousand people worked to make it happen, and he can only find a handful of people with questional backgrounds to go along with his claims. How could hundreds of thousands of other people, including former astronauts that had their missions canceled, keep secret the supposed biggest hoax in history? Check out [...] if you want the counter arguments to the moon landing hoax. Once presented with the evidence you will never doubt the moon landings again.
Hilarious, Campy Fun but if you really believe this stuff then I have got a deed to a bridge in NY to sell to you ! .......2006-07-21
Kittens in Space! Seriously folks, if you came here looking for `proof' that NASA mooned the world -you need mental help! Go read something by the Illuminati, J.D. Salinger or look for the `real' killers in the O.J. Case - or perhaps it was the same cabal that killed Kennedy...? Better still go rent an episode of the X-Files -they are better argued than this pile...
Anyway I can't believe this guy is serious -especially given that this books irrefutable proofs (very funny stuff) -including incredibly inaccurate `science', grade-school grammar mistakes and silly `theories' and even funnier so-called `expert computer analysis' made on available NASA website photographs are claimed to show Kittens, Cats, and dogs hiding in the background of grainy moon photos...
Still I work in aerospace so I am perhaps not quite that impartial when I say that this guy is a nut - but since he apparently is selling this book at nearly 20 bucks a copy then perhaps he is laughing all the way to the bank with this stuff..
At last!.......2006-05-02
What I've been waiting to hear for years: it didn't really happen! The Moon is NOT covered with American flags, metal junk and pizza boxes like most of the Earth. And, I dare to hope, Mars, Venus, and the rest of the heavenly bodies are inviolate, after all. And all of that reflective rubbish racing across and blighting the night scare is just especially bad floaters in my aging eyes.
Well, look in Pravda for that date and you'll see: nothing about it in the newspaper. Case closed.
Book Description
Moon Landings: Did NASA Lie? is a personal journey, one in which the author encourages each individual to arrive at his or her own conclusions. After spotting discrepancies in official photos of our lunar expeditions, technologist Philippe Lheureux began what seemed like an innocent study of NASA's public reports. Moon Landings is the result of his findings, a critical analysis of 225 photographs of the Apollo missions -- many from NASA's official website. It is destined to ignite strong reactions from scientists, patriots, the international media, and ultimately the reader. In a riveting in-depth investigation, Lheureux was astonished to find that his countless contacts managed to agree on only one point - that anomalies exist in the photographs NASA released to the press. Perhaps what is more astounding was why such inconsistencies were never publicly called into question - not by scientists, journalists, or even our former rival, the Russians. One by one, Moon Landings: Did NASA Lie? outlines the specific aberrations in the well-documented photographs and explains how and why the equations simply don't add up. However, the author makes a compelling point of not attaching himself to any one theory as to why. Instead, he identifies several interpretations that have been proposed as a means of arriving at the truth. Throughout the book, Lheureux stresses that it is not his goal to criticize NASA. In fact, he commends NASA for enabling the exploration of space and therefore, igniting the imagination and encouraging our right to dream. In the final analysis, though, he believes that the photographs appear enhanced and potentially altered in some way. So what if NASA's photos of the moon landings were staged? The author cannot answer that question -- and chooses not to. In fact, he maintains that it is far easier to raise questions than to find answers. This is the premise of Moon Landings.

What are they teaching in school?.......2006-08-15
This book shows the laziness in students learning basic physics. Secondly it shows someone unwilling to do the reasearch of the equipment that is all over the internet. Finally, why should we assume things like lighting on the moon are so sinister. Personally I haven't been in an airless environment and how it affects ther perspective of mountains miles away. Send the author a science book!
The author is part of a conspiracy.......2006-05-14
This book was written to cover up what is REALLY happening:
NASA and the UN are secretly working on a plan, using the newest technologies (based on a combination of fibre optics, nanotechnology and genetic engineering), to cause the moon to be re-absorbed into the Earth from which it came. (I think the Pacific Ocean is where it came from, exactly, but maybe it's the Atlantic, I'm not sure.) Then they can found an Anti-Freedom State there, with a new combination of Extreme Islam, Communism, and Left Liberalism (this is where the genetic stuff comes in). It will be new land, you see. And then all that salt water will flood the United States. (Forget about that global warming stuff, the rising sea level has nothing to do with that.) Didn't you notice this guy has a French name?
Severally Flawed and Silly Moon Hoax Book........2006-01-17
In his book, Moon Landings: Did NASA Lie?, Philippe Lheureux claims to have reviewed a staggering number of 225 photographs from the nearly 25000 photographs taken by the Apollo astronauts during their mission to the moon (This does not include the photographs taken by Apollo 7 and 9 which orbited the Earth). After this extension and extremely thorough review he has concluded that NASA has lied to the public about the missions to the moon. To further validate this conclusion, he also looked at 250 photographs of the 1.8 million images returned by the Department of Defense's Lunar orbiter mission Clementine. I hope the reader can tell I'm being sarcastic, because as will be pointed out shortly, the author's lack of research is staggering and mind numbing.
The first photograph presented in the book is from the Apollo 12 mission and shows astronaut Alan Bean holding the Special Environmental Sample Container (AS12-49-7278). The author asks seven questions about this photograph and then a few paragraphs later states that "Thousands of scientists, including many from Russia, had seen these photos. Why were they silent about this? Was is not their responsibility as scientists to ask these questions?" I feel that at this point the author should have ended his book. If he felt he still wanted to write a book, he could have at least asked these leading scientist why they didn't come forward. The real answer of course is that ten of thousands of scientists and engineers have already answered these questions and have found that they no validity. In other words, they realize that the moon landings are real.
Here are the seven questions that Lheureux asks in his book. As an engineer, I give the reader the answer to his questions.
1) The space suit does not seem stretched by its internal pressure.
The space suit consists of two major layers; the inner layer is the actual pressure containment system and holds the pressure at about 4.0 psi, while the outer is simply a covering made up of thermal protection material to keep the astronaut cool. It is similar to putting a coat out in the winter. A simple internet search could have found the design drawings.
2) The camera is not protected against the hazards of the lunar environment (270 F in the sunlight and -240 in the shade, not to mention the harmful cosmic ray and the absent of atmospheric pressure). Why isn't it in a pressurized box?
Actually, the camera was protected from the lunar and space environments, by using several control methods. First, the camera was protected from the sun by the use of reflective metallic coatings, akin to wearing white clothing in the summer months. The film was protected by storing it a metal container when not it use. The final answer would be, why does the camera need to be stored in a pressurized box?
3) The stem of the reflector below the test tube does not appear to be attached to the upper section of the equipment.
The author makes an error typical of those who promote the moon landing hoax. That is, he used a low resolution scan of the photo instead of a high resolution scan (over 6Mb). In the high resolution scan, the wire connecting the container top (he mistakenly calls it a reflector) can easily be seen.
4) The astronaut is strongly lit while the lunar surface remains in darkness.
Again, the author uses the same low resolution scan to make his analysis. In the high resolution scan, the lunar surface and the astronaut's suit are nearly the same brightness.
5) The person taking the photo is lit from the front, while a companion is lit from the side.
In this photograph, Lheureux is describing the reflection of Pete Conrad in Alan Bean's curved helmet visor. Let's see, I'm guessing (I'm being sarcastic here) that Pete Conrad is standing in a different location than Bean and that he's facing the sun, while Bean's side is facing the sun.
6) The lunar surface visible in the helmet is brighter than the one in the background.
Again, the author uses the same low resolution scan to make his analysis. In the high resolution scan, the lunar surface in the helmet and the lunar surface in the background are nearly same brightness and color.
7) Why are the gloves black when the rest of the suit is white?
The gloves are made out a different material. The gloves need to be flexible in order to grip tools and rocks. Furthermore, the gloves became dirty after picking up rocks.
In summary, the author who the book states "specializes in computer technology" could have answered all these questions himself, if he had just spent some time looking for the answers, either on the internet or in a library. The remainder the section on Apollo follows the same general trend, little or no research followed by questions that he can't find answers to, so it his "logical" conclusion is that NASA must be pulling a hoax over the world.
Another example of the author's poor researching ability is his evaluation and description of the moon rocks. He asks why the moon rocks don't contain even a single new element. Answer, there are only 92 natural occurring elements and all have been found on Earth. That's elementary (or at least junior high) chemistry and physics. Next, he waxes poignantly about why no new materials have been found. Again, he shows his lack of research. Apollo 11, the first mission to the moon, brought back the mineral, Armalcolite, named after the Apollo 11 crew. He then makes the bold assertion that the moon rocks must have been fabricated in a lab and of course he provides no references to back up this assertion.
After the section on the Apollo mission, Lheureux reveals his thesis. That is, the Apollo missions were faked, because NASA is hiding the fact that extraterrestrials have visited or are currently on the moon. To prove his point, he examines 250 photographs of the 1.8 million images returned by the Department of Defense's lunar orbiter mission, Clementine and presents some of his findings. In an attempt to prove his point, he reproduces some of the digital scans and gives his interpretation of the scan. He does this by presenting a side by side comparison. He presents the original photograph on the left side and the on right side he overlays some crudely sketched lines which he insists are signs of alien structures on the moon. Again, he does not to do any significant research and clearly fails to recognize three important facts. First, many the features he outlines are simply geological formations that can be found on Earth. Second, many of these supposed alien structures would be gigantic and would be dozens of miles across. Why would a alien spacecraft need a runway 30 miles in length and several miles in width? Finally, he does not compare any of the supposed alien structures with anything on Earth even though there are million of space based photographs of Earth based structures for comparison.
My major complaint about this section is his overlay analysis method. When he sketches his lines onto the Clementine photos, they are much thicker and straighter than those on the original. In other words, wavy lines which look like they were carved lava flows or landslides become straight lines. For example, a half oval shape on page 158 becomes a triangle, two intersecting arcs on pages 152 and 151 become a large Xs and on page 151 two very wavy lines become two straight lines.
In conclusion, Did NASA lie? No they did not lie. The author needs to do much more research
Did Lheureux lie? No, he did not lie, but he falls into the trap common to the moon hoax believers. That is, using low quality digital scans to make an evaluation, and not doing any research to undercover the engineering and science behind the Apollo and Clementine missions to the moon.
Good Job.......2005-11-02
It appears the government has accomplished what it has set out to do reading from all the broad-minded reviews.
Poorly researched drivel.......2005-03-29
Phillipe Lheureux claims to base this entire book on an analysis of 225 images of the Apollo missions. This is inadequate, since there are in excess of 20,000 images and several hours of film and TV footage. Lheueux clearly has not even glanced at any of the other material.
He asks how Armstrong descended the LM ladder with a camera attached to his chest. He implies that no effort was made by Armstrong to make sure he could get back up to the lowest rung of the ladder (a jump of about 3 feet) before calling Aldrin down. He asks how a picture that was clearly not taken by the type of camera the astronauts had could have appeared in the record.
All three of these are answered within 30 minutes of the start of the Apollo 11 moonwalk TV broadcast. Armstrong DID check he could get back up to the lower rung of the ladder. He did not have the camera strapped to his chest when he descended: it was lowered down on a line later. And Aldrin had set up a film camera (known as the Data Acquisition Camera) in the LM window to record the action from a different angle during the moonwalk. Lheureux's 'mystery picture' is from this camera.
In short, Lheureux has looked at a few pictures, seen some things he can't understand, and then concluded that it was all a hoax. No effort to try to find explanations was made. Since all this material is freely available if you bother to loko for it this is inexcusable.
Save your money and leave this book on the shelf.
Book Description
For the first time, this WSN Special Report reproduces two of the most important official NASA operational documents from the Apollo 11 lunar landing mission: the KSC Apollo / Saturn V Space Vehicle Countdown - dated July 3, 1969, and the Final Apollo 11 Flight Plan (AS-506/CSM-107/LM-5) - dated July 1, 1969 prepared by the Flight Planning Branch, Flight Crew Support Division, Manned Spacecraft Center.
Countdown Document Contents: Description, Hazardous Area Control, Intercommunications, Operating Stations, OTV Camera Locations, List of Abbreviations, Hold Points, Precount Procedures, Final Operational Procedures, Pre-cryogenic Loading Checklists, Contingency Crew Pad Access and Evacuation Procedures, Typical Flight Event Sequence for 72 degree mission, map of blast danger area at Saturn V launch pad, bar event charts of Spacecraft Launch Closeout Plan, Radio Frequency Matrix, Saturn V Propellant Loading, Saturn V Space Vehicle Countdown.
Flight Plan Document Contents: Launch through entry - Minute-by-minute illustrated timelines with MCC-H calls, crew procedures, notes, uplinks, communication station coverage, presleep checklists. Supplemental information: Mission Description, Detailed Objective Activities, Lunar Surface Navigation, EVA preparation and egress, surface sample collection, external LM observations and photography, experiment deployment, post-EVA operations, contamination prevention, crew positions during mission, PGA configuration, status report information, communications, CSM electrical power system and water management, environmental control system and cabin pressurization, guidance and navigation, landmark tracking, LM notes, passive thermal control, RCS operation and interface constraints, rendezvous, lunar landing site data, symbol nomenclature, acronyms, consumables analysis - SM RCS propellant, SPS, LM RCS propellant, LM descent propulsion system, LM ascent propulsion system, cryogenic summary, LM ECS budget, CM ECS budget, CSM and LM burn schedule, LM powered descent/high gate to TD chart, lunar orbit rest period attitude, typical landmark tracking profile drawing, mission summary flight plan chart, ascent crew calls ("clear of tower", etc.)
Please keep in mind that since this is an exact reproduction of an original historic document, it contains a few minor flaws and some pages with small text. In particular, the countdown document text was printed using a low-resolution computer impact printer of the kind popular in the late 1960s, which results in some poorly-formed characters. (It may not be pretty, but it is authentic!) The flight plan document is clear and sharp. Anyone interested in the history of Apollo will enjoy this unique document!

awful.......2001-04-06
The publishers and I use the term loosely, have made no attempt to clean up the poor scans this book was based upon. For some reason they have two A5 pages printed on one A4 side with the other side blank. These people were too lazy to even use a text bridge and because the scans are so poor the data in some areas is unreadable. The cover sticker is poorly printed by what appears to be a desktop printer and glued to the exterior of a child's school file. I was hoping for something that would give me an insight into space flight, the what, where, why, when and how things were done. I didn't get it. To add insult to injury, you can probably find all of the information used here on the Internet on the various Apollo tribute sights and in better condition too. I bought three other titles at the same time. If I'd know what pitiful things they were in advance, I would have saved my money for professionally produced books instead. awful
Cheap Reproduction [....].......2001-02-23
I was extremely disappointed when I received my copy of the Apollo 11 Countdown and Flight Plan. Although the publisher's description indicates they are offering "exact" reproductions, they definitely are not. It is obvious that all someone did was use a photocopier at the reference library at Kennedy Space Center. In fact, the cover of the documents are rubber stamped with this information. That would be okay, however, if the pages hadn't been reduced to 1/2 size. It is especially annoying to see long foldouts copied onto multiple pages. If the publisher was really offering an EXACT reproduction, then all the pages would be full size, and foldouts would be on a single, long page. In addition, the binder is extremely cheap and will not hold up to heavy use.
Yes, the information is useful and interesting. However, this product is [poorly designed....] It consists of about two dollars in material at the most. [....] I strongly suggest that you avoid making the same mistake and stay away from buying this expensive junk.

From the Editors of 'Life' Magazine.......2003-12-21
This was published in 1970, and consists largely of information obtained via the lucrative 'Life' magazine contract that began with the Mercury 7 astronauts. The book is mostly long passages of quotes from Armstrong, Collins, and Aldrin, as well as others peripherally related to the mission (families, other astronauts, NASA officials, etc.) sequenced to fit into the defined chapters of the book. Ostensibly Armstrong, Collins, and Aldrin are the 'authors' which is true to the extent that they provided the quotes that make up much of the book during interviews by 'Life', but the book was actually written by 'Life' employees.
Having said that, it is not a bad book, it is just very commercial and polished, with mostly a sanitized up close and personal view of the mission through the astronaut's eyes. In that regard, it is quite good: it does shed light on the lives of the three astronauts pre Apollo 11, and is particularly good in discussing background information on childhood, early flying careers, etc. It is particularly useful in relating information on Neil Armstrong, perhaps the most enigmatic of all the Apollo astronauts. That is the main strength of the book: it is a human interest story right out of 'Life' lengthened to 400 plus pages.
On the downside, the book tends to idealize the astronauts and NASA into supermen, and acts as if they have no faults. For this reason I recommend "Carrying the Fire", the superb book by Michael Collins for a true, unvarnished, insider's look at the astronauts and NASA. This book was obviously written immediately after Apollo 11 splashed down in July, 1969. For this reason, it is unable to really place Apollo in historical perspective as well as some of the more recent books have been able to. As for technical information, there really isn't a lot. Of course, that's not the focus of the book, either. The technical information that is presented is generally accurate and well explained, however.
Three stars overall. A good human interest story, but many subsequent books have done a better overall job of appraising Apollo 11 and it's impact.
An inspiring read.......2001-12-21
I've borrowed and read this book over and over again during my undergrad years which copy I think was a rare first edition of it. The book really was one of its kind in describing moon landing from the eyes of the people who live it. Read and be inspired.
First On Moon--by far is best non-fiction space book.......2000-05-28
i'VE JUST FINISHED READING THIS BOOK FOR THE 100TH TIME, SINCE PURCHASING IT 10 YEARS AGO! Ihave always wanted to meet these men [Apollo 11] and this book helps me to know more --especially about Neil Armstrong! When I wrote Neil Armstrong back in 1987, he suggested this as the main book to read from the three Apollo 11 astros. Tells about their lives, the training, how being an astronaut affected them and personal lives, all leading upto, and to splashdown! This book deserves a 10 plus star rating! I'll probably read it another 100 times!
AWESOME!!.......1999-10-22
This book is one of the most intriguing books on the Apollo 11 missions i have ever read, and i HIGHLY recommend it to anyone interested in the Apollo 11 mission

Apollo Lunar module Reference.......2001-11-25
This is a disappointing publication. The fact that it is ring bound is one "star" against it. It is very pricy for a ring bound 'book'. Worse however is that it is a photocopy of another publication (at least another star against it) and in some instances three pages of text are copied onto one page making for a mix of some pages in portrait format and others in landscape (yet another star against it). Because it is a photocopy some of the illustrations/diagrams are of a very poor quality. In addition, when three pages are crammed onto one page the font size, as one would expect, becomes very small. What is really disappointing is that there is a wealth of information here but poorly presented at best. I feel "ripped off" for having paid so much for a collection of loose pages. A hard cover, good illustrations with some in color, and quality printing and the cost would have been perfectly justified.
Fantastic LM - Apollo information - highly recommended!.......2001-04-16
Fantastic Apollo information - highly recommended!
Wow! Kudos to World Spaceflight News for coming up with these great Apollo documents! For discovering the nitty-gritty technical details of the Apollo moon program spacecraft, these books are absolutely unbeatable. None of the glossy picture books and autobiographies from the last 30 years explain the inner workings of Apollo like these original NASA references.
Every page is clearly printed, and there are A TON OF SPECTACULAR schematics and similar drawings. There are a few muddy black and white old-style photographs, but luckily most all of the "illustrations" are drawings! I found that everything (text and drawings) was legible and understandable.
This Lunar Module reference is the first source I've ever seen that explains the equipment within the cramped layout of the LM crew compartment!
You won't compare this to a finely bound volume from a major publisher - but hey, this is the only way to get this "geeky" information. As a lifelong Apollo fanatic, I'm happy to get this material however it comes. I've searched the web for many hours, and I never found this book or anything like it on any website. It is, as they say, unique. Period.
If you love Apollo - you want this book. In fact, you want all three (Lunar Module, CSM, Saturn V) volumes. Highly recommended!

Good if you don't have a PC........2000-06-04
The Lunar Module reference is a detailed look at the spacecraft that landed on the moon with a reproduction quality comparable to the original (which was not too great to begin with). This document was intended as a reference for the press and contains nearly everything you wanted to know about the spacecraft and all its systems. For those with an interest in the nuts-and-bolts details of this amazing craft, it can't be beat! The only caveat: If you have a PC, get the Apollo documents CD-ROM that is also offered by World Spaceflight News which contains this document in PDF format as well as the Apollo CSM news reference and MUCH MORE and print it out yourself. If not and you really want to know how this spacecraft really worked, by all means buy this edition.
Book Description
THE BEST TECHNICAL, NUTS-AND-BOLTS DESCRIPTION OF THE APOLLO COMMAND AND SERVICE MODULE IN PRINT TODAY! The Command Module (CM) was the control center for the Apollo spacecraft, providing living and working quarters for the three-man crew for the entire flight, except for the period when the Lunar Module descended to the Moon for landing and return. The cone-shaped CM was the only part of the spacecraft that returned to Earth from space. The cylindrical Service Module (SM) was designed to support the command module and its crew, housing the electrical power subsystem, reaction control engines, part of the environmental control system, and the service propulsion subsystem including the main propulsion engine for insertion into orbit around the Moon, for return from the Moon, and for course corrections. The 22-foot long SM was attached to the command module until just before Earth entry, when it was jettisoned.
This WSN Special Report exclusively features the best NASA document on the CSM - the official Apollo Spacecraft News Reference. There are over 170 illustrations, cut-away drawings, schematics, tables and charts. From the docking system to the Service Propulsion System engine, every part of the Command Service Module is described in detail. It is a genuine treasure-trove of facts, figures, and historical information about man's greatest engineering achievement. If you are fascinated by the Apollo era, you'll want this spectacular report!
Please keep in mind that since this is a reproduction of an original historic document, it contains a few minor flaws and some pages with small text. Overall, however, the reproduction is very clear and sharp.

One of the great things about this command module reference is the description of the guidance and navigation hardware which told the astronauts how to get to the moon. It explains the "verb" and "noun" keyboard inputs to the computer - it seemed that every air-to-ground conversation with the crew mentioned these confusing terms!
