Dr. John Sarno caused quite a ruckus back in 1990 when he suggested that back pain is all in the head. In his bestselling book, Healing Back Pain: The Mind-Body Connection, he claimed that backaches, slipped discs, headaches, and other chronic pains are due to suppressed anger, and that once the cause of the anger is addressed, the pain will vanish. Relieved Amazon.com readers call this book "liberating" and say "it sounds too good to be true, but it is true." Sarno has returned with The Mindbody Prescription, in which he explains how emotions including guilt, anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem can stimulate the brain to manufacture physical symptoms including fibromyalgia, repetitive strain injuries, migraine headaches, hay fever, colitis, ulcers, and even acne. If these psychosomatic problems all sound a little Freudian, what with the repression of emotions in the unconscious, it's because Sarno unapologetically borrows from Freud for the basis of his theory and cites childhood trauma as a major source of emotional problems. He also says that his program is a "talking cure" of sorts, since patients must be convinced their pain is rooted in their emotions before healing can begin.

The book reads a bit like psychology text, with Sarno quoting from psychoanalytic theorists including Heinz Kohut and Graeme Taylor and the DSM-IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition). Sarno walks through the neurophysiology of mindbody disorders, lists the symptoms of dozens of disorders that he believes are emotion-based, and offers a basic program for overcoming psychosomatic pain and illness. His recovery plan includes meditation and sometimes psychotherapy, including behavior modification, and stopping any medication or physical therapy. While Sarno's ideas seem radical, they were commonly implemented earlier in the 20th century, when psychoanalysis was at its peak of popularity, and they promise to become more accepted in our current era of alternative medical therapies and anger management. --Erica Jorgensen

5 out of 5 stars worked for me.......2007-09-23

quick comment: I bought this book on a whim and it worked. Thank goodness I gave it a try. I'm back to my normal life style after 2 years of pain controlling my every move...

5 out of 5 stars This book has helped my sister and my best friend!.......2007-09-20

I purchased two copies of this for my sister and my best friend, both of whom have been suffering from a number of painful disorders. Both of them wrote to me very quickly after receiving the book and reported that it makes so much sense that they were excited and relieved to find such great information and ideas that were immediately helpful. I'm buying two or three more copies for other family and friends - it's a small price to pay for such wonderful results! Highly recommend!

5 out of 5 stars What a relief!.......2007-09-17

Nearly 10 years ago a friend told me about this book. I had upper back pain that I attributed to yoga. There was no definitive moment of injury. I just woke up with this pain in my neck that started radiating down my arm. No structural problem was found through xray. I went to a chiropractor and ran after 1 session (not for me) and then physical therapy. After 2 months (!) the hospital kicked me out of physical therapy (!!) with residual pain that I figured I'd just "deal with". It pretty much faded but every so often I'd have an attack and I'd go get a cortisone shot or accupuncture. Not too bad.

Then in 2004 I got the mother of all pains: a lower back/sciatica pain that settled in and wouldn't leave. Again, MRIs, Xrays, etc. found nothing. I thought it was because of a severe left leg fracture that required 2 surgeries and 1 years total in a cast and crutches. I figured it threw out my alignment. Interestingly though, I developed the pain a few days after I met my biological mother (as an adult) who abandoned me at birth. I recognized the significance but I could not imagine this much pain could be attributed to that. The pain kept on and I was getting worse every minute. I felt like dying because chronic pain is something that we just cannot live with. I got on strong painkillers and finally found 1 that didn't anesthetize me so I could function and feel normal. I also got Raynaud's phenomenon too, never mind bouts of IBS and constipation over the years.

After a couple of years of stability with the pain meds generally blocking the sciatica pain, my upper back/neck pain kicked in with a vengeance this summer. It'd come and go but finally it settled for good. I remembered Dr. Sarno and ran for this book. To be fair, I had my second physical therapy visit 3 days ago. The next day I read the first half of the book and today I finished it. Right now I can move my neck around like normal. Its a little tender but not like the cripple Quasimoto neck I felt I had on Fri., so bad that I was ready to kill someone.

I am a counselor and a therapist, so when I first picked up "Healing Back Pain" I thought I already knew what he was saying so what's the point of reading it. I knew that emotions affected the body. I just didn't think it could possibly be causing as much acute pain, in 1 specific spot, like I was then experiencing. Well, it does. I am a believer now. Like he described, the pain will just keep moving and in a way that cannot be accounted for by a structural problem. How is it that my left side sciatica every now and then moves to the right? Or that my upper typically left side neck pain is on my right? I guess you really have to get to a point where you are willing to believe it (sort of like the surrender process in recovery from substances), or be willing to try to believe it, in order for it to work. I am going to start working on my rage issues some more(yes, there are plenty of reasons for rage in my life, past and present) and see if that will alleviate the sciatica pain I'd written off as hopeless. Actually, speaking of rage, at the age of 10 years old I had these terrible, painful attacks in my liver area. No one could figure out why. At the age of 21, I was finally diagnosed in the ER with gallstones that were on the verge of bursting my gallbladder and so I had to have it removed. Because of my age no one had thought that I could be having gallbladder problems. In Chinese medicine, the liver/gallbladder is the seat of anger. Pretty telling.

5 out of 5 stars It worked for me.......2007-09-15

One previous reviewer states if you are scientifically minded, this book won't work for you. Well, I am not only scientifically minded, I am a scientist. Actually if you are a scientist and a bit familiar with empirical science and experimental design, it could make more sense because you will be less likely to misread it, and you could also check the medical literature, in particular evidence-based medicine reviews, yourself regarding the effectiveness of various traditional treatment modalities. I am grateful to Dr. Sarno. If you think TMS applies to you, I also recommend books by other authors who wrote about TMS, in particular Dr. Mark Sopher, Fred Amir, and Dr. Nancy Selfridge.

5 out of 5 stars Psychological explanation of apparently physical pain and its treatment.......2007-08-05

Firstly, like most things in life, this probably won't work for everyone. However, if you read it with an open mind and finish the book, its likely to help you.

Coming from a family of allopathic doctors, I was somewhat sceptical about the theory (TMS) proposed by Dr Sarno which he has termed Tension Myositis Syndrome. However, it is actually completely in line with allopathic medicine, he just believes that the cause of most pain is psychological/psychosomatic rather than simply a physical/structural one.

The crux of his theory is that the mind/brain employs a mechanism to deal with emotional/psychological problems that the sufferer is unable to acknowledge or deal with on a conscious level by initiating a seemingly physical response (normally by reducing the blood flow to a certain physical area) which produces real pain in that area so that the suffer is focused on the physical pain rather than dealing with in many ways much more debilitating psychological/emotional pain.

This relationship between the mind and the body is, Dr Sarno believes, a sort of defense mechanism.

Sarno is clearly a very learned and experienced Dr and has a vast amount of knowledge, not just of allopathic medicine but also psychiatry (Freud) and complementary therapies.

His writing style is very simple and straightforward but very well researched and explained and he gives case studies to back up his claims. For what it's worth his theory and treatment method has been endorsed by several well-known celebrities including Anne Bancroft (RIP) and Howard Stern.

My personal experience was that I was suffering from excrutiating back and shoulder pain which rendered me unable to work using a computer. This made me extremely depressed as it limited me physically and had a big psychological impact. After numerous costly sessions at the osteopath and extensive physiotherapy I was not getting any better. I came across this book online and as a last resort I bought it. After reading the book I started to slowly feel better and now, two years on, my pain has completely gone. I occasionally get the odd twinge but I now know that it is nothing structural and will dissipate and that it is likely a referred emotional worry. As soon as I recognised this consciously and allowed myself to accept the possibility that there was something bothering me that I was unable/unwilling to face, I found the pain subsided.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars I would have given this book five stars, had I ever read it........2007-01-10

Gods do not want me to know what Dale Carnegie wrote in his book. First time I ordered it, the dimwits from the post office lost the package. By the time that fact became firmly established, Amazon did not have any more copies in stock and issued a refund. I ordered then from one of the Amazon sellers, but few weeks later got another refund. And today, I have received an e-mail, asking me to review few earlier purchases, including this book. The e-mail had a convenient link to the reviewer's page. So, here you go: happy to oblige!

4 out of 5 stars A good read but..........2006-11-03

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was amazing how relevent it still is and how little people truely have changed. This book is a must read. The only complaint I have which prevents me from giving this book a 5 star rating is; a few sermons scattered mostly towards the end of the book. I really didn't appreciate them. After a person gets past this I would recomend this book, and have recomended it to friends with the cautionary comment about the 'sermons'.

4 out of 5 stars New Title Suggestion: How to get laid in 60 minutes........2003-03-26

The very first time I applied these techniques in a bar, I simultaneously made out with 2 gorgeous women. This book has changed my life... What more can I say?

There are, however, some points that must be cleared up before you apply the techniques within this guide.

1.In many cultures, it is considered rude to ask personal questions of a relative stranger. (ex: "what do you do for a living.")

2.In today's legal environment, you may be held liable if you begin an argument by telling your opponent they are correct. (Ex: saying "I'm sorry" at a traffic accident.)

5 out of 5 stars A must have.......2002-09-08

This book was written in the early 1900s and still is very effective today. I found this book to be essentially "priceless". Whatever I describe here would not do justice to what this book deserves.

Believe the other reviews, I bought this book based on them and am very glad I did. Very easy to read, very long but something you do not want to put down.

5 out of 5 stars I may be wrong but let us examine the facts.......2002-01-22

You know this book only got a 4.5 rating which made me curiuos. After scaning through all the review, i found that some actually gives the lowest rating there is to the book. I was upset.

Still it was no surprise that they don't like it. You cannot satify everyone. But then some of this reviews does sound misleading which in turn gets on my nerve.

I mean how many times do you come across a book that does exactly as what its title said? Tecnical book maybe, but self-helps? And how many self-help that put a title so bold as this one in the first place? The thing is,this book delivers. You might have to apply it constantly to be good at it and sometimes it might even be difficult but it delivers.(it takes time)

The other thing is this book doesn't teach you to lie or decipt. Although some may do that after reading the book but then it's not because the book teaches them to be evil, only simply because they are unethical. It is like saying cloning is bad because poeple can use the technology to create an army of super human. Like science, the book doesn't tell how to use your knowledge but only tells you how to do it.

Sincerity. The book does to emphasize on it in order to not confuse its principles as evil. So, why does people still get confuse? As I understand, the defination of sincerity (in virtue terms) means performing something like helping other people
or giving something away with hoping for reward or anything else in return.
So does winning friends. You may become popular or well liked but don't hope for anything in return if you are sincere. It is because of people hoping for too much when applying this principles that they gives 1 star for the book. -sigh-

The other thing I was upset are reviews that like the book but doesn't gives full star for it. Why? Don't they realised that there is no other book like this one?(ok there is another one) Dale Carnegie wrote self-help like how it should be written:
1. Include priciples of successful people.(two years research)
2. 8 years of research through experience of thousands of people.
3. No "the best way to [insert action] for me is this, this, this and so I hope you would follow my style of doing things".
4. An introduction that says "Why do I bother to write another book, and after I have written it, why would you evenbother to read it. Fair question and I shall try to answer them both..."

As Carnegie himself said, this book is not born out of the ivory tower. If you think that there is a better way to write a self-help book, tell me and then find a book that is written that way. Betcha can't.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Nautical standard.......2006-11-07

This book has long been a nautical standard among small craft owners. It is packed full of information for boat owners and those who love the sea.

5 out of 5 stars "Front, Bow! Back, Stern!" .......2006-07-28

CHAPMAN'S PILOTING AND SEAMANSHIP is one of the half-dozen or so "essential" technical texts that any sailor should own. Coming into it's 65th edition in September 2006, CHAPMAN'S is the only book that offers serious competition to THE ANNAPOLIS BOOK OF SEAMANSHIP as an overall guide to sailing fundamentals.

Unlike Rousmaniere's book however, CHAPMAN'S is just as applicable to power boating, and because it is updated much more frequently, it's information on changeable topics such as boating regulations and new technologies, among others, is far more current---CHAPMAN'S is in its 65th incarnation, ANNAPOLIS in its seven-year-old third version (Where's the Fourth Edition?).

Did I say "competition"? Actually, the two volumes complement each other, and both are absolutely crucial for the serious skipper.

5 out of 5 stars a new look at chapmans .......2006-07-03

still one of the best books available, on small craft handling.
--- would prefer the older edition , as it was more portable !
and much of the new material will be dated before the year is out!
---this is a volumne at once , serious , and readable,
many an old trick , well preserved , well presented make it quite useful for nearly all navigational tasks,
did remark , a lot of typos , and was surprised , but then this is the cyber era !? so it goes !? --- a real tool !, however!

5 out of 5 stars Chapman's a Bible for Boaters.......2006-03-02

Chapman's Piloting and Seamanship is required reading for anyone
involved with boating. The Coast Guard Auxiliary uses this book for a reference tool for their courses along with applicable CG Publication. The book is heavy though, get a soft bound edition if possible.

5 out of 5 stars A MUST FOR NEW BOATERS AND A GOOD REFERENCE FOR ALL.......2005-06-20

I just replaced my 54th edition with the 64th. Much of it is the same but much has also changed in the past 16 years. If you are new to boating this book might literally save your life. If you're a seasoned skipper you'll find yourself using it for a reference more often than you'd imagine. Covers every thing you need to know for boating in either sail or power. This book is "the Boater's Bible". If for no other reason than learning the "rules of the waterway" Chapman's is worth it's weight in gold.

Everyone seems to have known about this book but me! Where have I been? The poems and stories in this book absolutely give me those wonderful goose-bumps that come when I experience something very special.

5 out of 5 stars A Darker Gibran.......2007-01-27

I'm stuck in the first few chapters of this collection. It is much darker compared to the immediately uplifiting through positive insight book, The Prophet. It is however still filled with Gibran's signature wisdom just in a slow and gloomy kind of way. It is a must have for any Gibran lover just be prepared.

5 out of 5 stars Kahlil Gibran book.......2006-03-10

I am very pleased with this purchase. The book was shipped quickly and in excellent condition and I love the book!

5 out of 5 stars With Great Power Ignorance Is Scattered.......2005-05-11

My father first gave me a copy of this powerful, and yet distant writer who exposed my mental eye to a world far away; yet close to home. Kahlil Gibran inspired me beyond words, and I know as a writer that every word written inspires someone; however, this author is my prime example of how race has no matter in words that scatter ignorance. He'd addressed the heart and mind on subjects with great story telling power. My original copy of his book is so old that it is falling apart, and so I bought this collection in order to share his words with others without concern for the condition of the book. I read a few pages to a young lady in one of my classes and she went out and bought her a copy, too. I had no idea that I was missing out on so much more incredible stories and poems until I'd made this purchase. I leave it to you form your own opinion.

5 out of 5 stars Echoes Of The Spirit.......2005-03-28

"I know that the principles upon which I base my writings, are echoes of the spirit of the great majority of the people of the world..." (656)
-Kahlil Gibran in a letter to his cousin, Nakhli Gibran, in 1908.

"The Treasured Writings of Kahlil Gibran", is a compilation of three other books of Gibran's treasury of writings, that each contained several books in one volume. They were: "A Treasury of Kahlil Gibran" (1947), "A Second Treasury of Kahlil Gibran" (1957), and "A Third Treasury of Kahlil Gibran" (1965). A total of ten books in all, this volume contains earlier books by Gibran such as, "Tears And Laughter", and more mature and widely acclaimed books such as, "The Broken Wings." In addition to the beautiful prose, verse, and imaginative stories, there is also biographical information and letters written by, and to Gibran. This is perhaps the most comprehensive book of Kahlil Gibran's writings, and one of the most informative about the man himself.

Philosopher, artist, and poet; these are some of the titles that are used to describe Kahlil Gibran. In order to fully describe this remarkable man, and this book, "The Treasured writings of Kahlil Gibran", one must reach beyond a mere title and use words such as passion, purity, and even divinity. To read this book is to realize this was a mortal man who sincerely understood the difficulties of being human, and yet often looked into the tender eyes of the divine, and shares his belief that he can see this light in the eyes of others.

"The riches of the spirit beautify the face of man and give birth to sympathy and respect. The spirit, in every being is made manifest in the eyes..." (488)

To absorb the depth of Gibran is to discover your own soul's longing for light and life, for beauty and joy. It is to hear the cries of your own heart's ecstasy as a friend, companion, and lover. With his writings, Gibran seems to gently take us by the hand, and listen with us, for our own whisper of echoing spirit.

Palmistry is the ancient science of reading an individual's hands in order to gain an insight into their life. A fascinating and precise art, the reading of palms has enthralled many cultures for centuries. The Palmistry Workbook provides a fascinating overview of palm reading including the history of palmistry, the meaning of the individual lines on your hand, the symbolism of your hand shape and the significance of the thumb. The Palmistry Workbook also explores the connections between the naming of the lines and mounts on the hands with Greek and Roman mythology, astrology, and the planets. Illustrated throughout, this book is appropriate for beginners but also rich enough for devotees wishing to expand their knowledge of this fascinating subject.

5 out of 5 stars Palm Reading Certification.......2006-12-23

Being in the IT/Networking field, I have taken a few certification test. This book kinda reminds me of a Sybex cert manual due to the end of chapter questions and review. Everything you need to know about palm reading is here. From the mounts, to the lines (both primary and secondary), to the history of palmistry, to hand shapes...its all here and very detailed. Its almost as if the author intended for this book to be used to train professional palmist or to pass the CompTIA "Palm+ certification".

I bought this book for 3 reason.
1. Learn a fun new skill.
2. Become more interesting (how many people do you know that can read palms?)
3. Meet people (particularly the ladies ; )...you get to hold their hand, tell them about themselves, flirt, and have a great conversation about their favorite topic...THEM!)

Ok ok. The 3rd is the biggest reason why I bought this one : D

The book also is wonderfully laid out. It first goes over the hand shapes which gives you a general sense of the person. Then it goes into the primary lines such as the heart, life, and fate just to name a few. Then comes the secondary lines which interact with the primary lines. Then it goes into particular readings such as if someone were to ask you about obtaining true love...then you would read for love or wealth or longevity. Lastly it gives a few sample readings which are vastly different from each other and gives you a good sense of what to look for.

Not trying to sound racist, but my only complaint is that I wish it would have shown a dark complectioned hand as they are harder to read and had color photographs of the hands so that you can see the tone of skin, which as pointed out in the book to be used as an indicator for current mood or health, which would also very vastly from the color of white skin to dark skin.

If your like me and interest in my 3rd reason for buying this book, then you should also checkout something known as reflexology and learn about pressure points of the hands and other parts of the body. This means you get to naturally move from the hands to touching other parts of the body. The right touching can be a big turn on for most ladies. This book is a hit at parties and people just come up to me and I get to have a conversation with them. Its great!

Get this book. Study for the "Palm+ cert". Impress your friends. Make new friends. And most importantly...have fun!

5 out of 5 stars Quality Book.......2006-03-27

After ordering the workbook for runes from the same company, I decided to try their palmistry book. I found this book to be so much easier to use than my other palmistry books. It's broken down into easy to learn sections, with helpful points at the end of the chapters. I was very pleased with the sample readings being done from photo copies, as I have been working a lot with photo copies of my friends' hands. The physical quality of the book is also superior. The pages are thick, vivid, and the cover is thick with flaps on either side that help with place marking. My other palmistry books have been shelved, this one is out and in use.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best books out on Palmistry.......2005-07-23

This book is well thought out and explained. The art of palmistry is often complicated to explain, but this book takes the reader through it step by step. In being a palmist myself there is little criticism I can find in this excellent book.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Book.......2004-08-12

I'm very impressed with this book. It's very easy to read and the information given is just unbelievably accurate for the most part. It also contains some helpful pictures to help readers understand the materials explained. The materials are divided into different sections (i.e a section for thumb, another for fingers, as well as different sections for your life line, health line, fate line, head line, marriage line, etc...). The author did a great job in presenting the material and making it very easy to learn. You will have a lot of fun with this book...I know I did.

4 out of 5 stars Accurate and helpful.......2007-09-12

This book has been right on the money when it comes to interpreting my dreams, and I love the detail and history of dreams for different cultures, since so much of what we dream is drawn from icons of our subconscious.

5 out of 5 stars covers all topics.......2007-05-07

i have some other dream dictionaries and this one covers just about every conceivable topic or symbol that i have seen missing in others.

4 out of 5 stars bedside dictionary.......2007-04-10

I use this Dictionary all the time. It is well organized and contains most of the common symbols in dreams. It is the perfect size to slip conveniently into a nightstand drawer.

5 out of 5 stars Love this book.......2006-10-20

I have used this book for at least three years and have found none better. Not only does it offer deffinitions, but also little facts and things that have to do with dreamming.

5 out of 5 stars The Best So Far!.......2006-08-17

I have purchased 10-12 dream dictionaries over the years, and this one is the best that I have encountered; I own it in both hard back and paper back. It is very comprehensive, and helps you piece together your dreams yourself, giving you the tools of dream symbology and interpretation. I disagree with the post that 'trashes' this book, perhaps the reviewer didn't get a good night's sleep? ;-) No dream book is going to tell you point blank exactly what your specific dream meant of course, but rather educate you about the symbology therein, enabling you to connect with the language of dreams. I have learned SO MUCH about myself in my dreams that I would not have otherwise learned, I now call the dream state 'Night School'. I recommend adding this thick book to your arsenal of interpretation tools!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Help for your spiritual path.......2007-10-06

This is a very cool idea to combine this manual with a box containing specimens of each of the actual crystals that Judy Hall covers. She is very thorough covering the uses of each of the crystals, how to use crystals in combination with each other and methods to discover which crystals are optimal for you. Those of you who are new to using crystals will find this manual engrossing and informative.

5 out of 5 stars Great starter kit for crystal healing.......2007-09-25

As someone just getting into crystal healing and learning about the properties of crystals, I couldn't have picked a better starting point than this kit. The twelve stones are tumbled and beautiful. Judy picked the basic crystals everyone should work with. You can grow your collection from there. The book is clearly written and explains how to cleanse, dedicate, and activate your stones. It also gives a complete description of each stone; it's effects on body, mind, emotions, environment, and spirit. My only criticism is that a velvet pouch should be included so you can carry the stones but they are easily attainable online. Some people argue against the practice of placing your stones in contact with one another since the stones can wear on each other but all of these stones are in the same general hardness range from what I can tell so there is no problem there. Judy Hall did all of us students of crystal healing a favor by putting this starter kit together. Thank you Judy!

5 out of 5 stars BEST EVER TOOL FOR MEDITATION.......2007-08-01

The Crystal Healing Pack...I recommend to every one who is in their path to spiritual journey, finding light, balance and rediscovering their healing gift. These stones will help your energy vibrate to higher level of awareness making you more open and one with your Higher Self. Anyone who is into meditation should incorporate the healing pack whilst they quiet their mind as it is a very very important tool..this review is based on my experience using the healing pack...the crystal healing stones helped me rediscover my gift as a spiritual healer, my psychic gift more attuned and I found balance in every day life.

5 out of 5 stars Patient, Heal Thyself!.......2007-04-26

The Crystal Healing Kit is a convenient introduction to crystal healing. Having done some of the meditations with the tumbled stones, I think it may have helped my chronic pain and fatigue and given me a boost in energy sometimes. I have combined some of the healing techniques with the ones in the Healing Power of Your Aura book. I put some rose quartz stones in the four corners of my room and the loud music has lessened considerably in a neighborhood where people think it's their God-given right to share their "beats" with the rest of us whether we want them or not. Rose quartz is the stone of love and tranquility, according to the book, and I suppose it is working because it's been as quiet as a monastery around here most of the time since I put them in the corners. Hopefully, it will stay that way.

The author claims to have had some success with healing others with the stones and says that the Tibetans have used them traditionally to heal. No one actually knows why they heal. Where is the scientific proof that it works? Those who are open to the book don't need no stinkin' scientific proof and besides a hardcore rationalist such as a scientist will immediately dismiss with contempt the notion that a rock could heal, so there won't be any scientific tests any time soon. I will admit that a pretty little tumbled stone could heal is a romantic notion and that rosy romanticism never dies in the new age movement.

Each of the stones corresponds to one of the twelve chakras described in the book. I like to do the session that activates all twelve of them, although at first I would use just three before I learned about how to use the rest of the stones more. I've slept with them in the bed trying to heal my back. An amethyst does seem to help the recollection of dreams, although putting the stone under your pillow already serves as a reminder, so I can't say it could be solely from the power of the stone. The hardest thing is to keep up with the stones without losing them. It's best not to move them around too much and keep them in the same place, but I do like to wear them in my pockets behind my belt, or even in my underwear sometimes. Having tried several ways to heal the pain, more or less conventionally, I keep trying "stranger" things.

The book explains what the stones can do for you and the kit contains the stones to use immediately. It also explains how to use the stones and how to program and activate them for your purposes. If nothing more, at least you'll have a nice collection of stones sitting on your window sill.

4 out of 5 stars Great way to get started.......2007-04-24

This was a great kit for me. The stones were good quality and the booklet was informative. It was an easy and inexpensive way to begin learning about crystals and crystal healing.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars An outstanding book about magnificent tattoos.......2007-05-13

Tattoo by Dale Rio and Eva Bianchini belongs to the best books currently available about Tattoo Art. Just skimming the book and looking these photo's at a glance, it already reveals very excellent tattoos, made by some of today's most well known, most talented tattoo artists in the world of tattooing. In beautiful, often very detailed photos, this book shows different tattoo styles, including very realistic tattoos, of which it is hard to believe these are actually tattoos. If you consider getting tattooed by one of the best artists and want something to inspire you, then certainly this book can be a great help to make yourself acquainted with the amazing possibilities of the most modern tattooing techniques, when applied by the most skilled Tattoo Artists. And once you got your own, very best Tattoo Art, who knows this book will be a great reminder of how you started to prepare yourself to obtain that personal Art.

5 out of 5 stars one of the best tat books yet.......2005-12-27

I may be a bit biased as my fiancee is featured in this book (pg. 94), but I think this is one of the best tattoo books I've had the pleasure of looking at. While some of the designs chosen are a bit simplistic for my taste, it shows a wide range of tattoos in color and also black work.
I like that it doesn't just feature big name artists. The author took into account many artists no matter how well known, based on their talent (which is how it should be). The photographs are amazing and you won't believe some of them are tattoos because they look so real.
This is well worth the small price that is being asked for it. Any fan of tattooing would be pleased with the work in this book.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Book on Tattoos.......2005-12-22

This is an Excellent Book on Tattoos. The variety and quality of both the tattoos and the photos of them are extremely good. I have not got to read the text yet, I have been so engrossed in the photos. The book does not focus on just the big name tattooists like a lot of books out there, but this has not held back on the quality and originality of the pieces in the book.

Book Description

With more than 7 million copies sold, and a spot on the New York Times Bestseller list, this pioneering self-help guide transformed the lives of countless readers.

"Harris has stripped away the technical language of psychoanalysis and presents with lucid logic a way to self-understanding and change."--The Los Angeles Times

Are you okay? That's probably the most important question anyone will ever answer, and Dr. Thomas Harris's groundbreaking bestseller helped millions respond in the affirmative. Using Transactional Analysis, which confronts the individual with the fact that he or she is responsible for what happens in the future, Dr. Harris explained how to distinguish the three active elements that make up everyone's personality (Parent, Adult, and Child), as well as the four life positions underlying people's actions. Best of all, his theories are presented in wonderfully easy-to-understand language, and there's practical advice on how to change harmful behavior. Anyone can lead a happier, more effective life and better understand friends and family.

4 out of 5 stars Self-Help Book extraordinaire.......2007-07-19

I'm O.K., You're O.K.

I'm O.K., You're O.K. is an outstanding book for people with deep-seated mental problems. I'd recommend it for people such as S. Hauge who has an apparent Oedipus complex aka Scott-E-Dog. You really wonder about a person who adopts an alias with dog in it. Maybe he's trying to emulate Snoop-Dog. Poor, poor Scott-E-Dog. This self-help book could help if he could get someone to read it to him. You see Scott-E-Dog dropped out of school and has a difficult time reading without moving his lips and other body parts.

5 out of 5 stars A return to roots.......2006-01-29

As good as it was when first published...even more meaningful after 30 years. As valid now as it was then.

5 out of 5 stars Very stimulating and enlightening book!.......2000-12-14

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand his or her behaviour in situations.

The "A-Ha" feeling you get when you start reading it comes when you understand why so-and-so makes you feel small or angry and why certain situations make you start playing some game.

It discusses the basic terminologies and vocabulary needed and then goes on to discuss in different social contexts and developmental contexts the application of Transaction Analysis.

This is not just a vague psychology book like Freud. It is extremely practical and insightful.

4 out of 5 stars We're OK.......2000-04-11

An outstanding self-help book discussing human behavior based on transactional analysis, in an easy to understand language while still technical.
